I am posting this as a bridge to my past and present entries.

So yes, Boston became NBA Champs as Predicted and my Paul Pierce became MVP as expected except that the Celtics actually made garbage time on the Lakers and made Special Attendance at the Pacman-Diaz Match last week wherein Pacman practically killed his opponent early in round 2 and finished though in the 8th.

Aside from that, UEFA EURO 2008 finals champion Spain finally does it after 24 years, now on the account of loser Germany who had an early land on the top. 1-nil just proves a tough match though, similar to this 5-set heart-pounding victory by new king Rafael Nadal over the 5-time-reigning ex-champ Roger Federer in this years Wimbledon Men's Final

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! What a better way to celebrate than to claim independence from my demanding social life, my job and my living situation and return to what makes sense. Ah, blog, I missed ye.

Well, I apologize for the lapse, but, hey, I don't have cable due to a change in my roommate situation. I know, totally lame. Anyway, I lucked upon someone who is willing to post RAW recaps on Mondays for us and I'll fill in with random news and Smackdowns, So, yeah...let's get started

Smackdown is in Tulsa, where it all began for JR, and Triple H is the guest on MVP's VIP Lounge. And...he's being kinda nice? Triple H is a fan of the VIP Lounge? Really? Ha ha oh shoot, he called MVP's outfit a Power Ranger costume. Ha ha. Ohhhh! He called the suit a "performance enhancer" and told him he might get a 30-day suspension for it. Easy there, Hunter! Uh oh, a little testy convo between two of the biggest egos on Smackdown. The Game wants to show some footage. Wonder what it's about. Oh, it's about Edge and his trash talking about how he won't be on RAW, and Batista coming out to smather him on the ring, and CM Punk with the GTS and the win to become the new champ. I think it's cool that Punk took the belt in sneaky, Edge-like fashion. Oh, this is just a rundown of what happened on RAW last night, you know, the whole JBL thing with the "marshal law", his Cena-bashing and then the fight with CM Punk. Why is Cena with Cryme Tyme? Are they his posse now? I'm a bit perplexed. Ha ha, Triple H and MVP with a little funny banter about how Edge got "Punked" until the evil witch of the West, Icky Vicky (Eww Eww) comes out to defend her man. Ha ha, Triple H thinks that Edge is a genius for marrying the boss to get ahead. Who does that? He even suggests that the head to a drive thru chapel in Vegas where you don't even have to be conscious to get married. I love it ha ha. Vicky with some "Edge is so great blah blah he banished the Undertaker blah blah". I am so happy that The Game is putting this hag in her place. Pretty funny that she can't even get a word out without because of all the boo-ing. Oh, he'll be defending his belt against Edge at Great American Bash. Well, then I think that he needs to put his belt up too. It's only fair, you know.

Ooo look at the pretty new Diva's belt. Natalya, the next in Hart family superstars, will face whoever wins this Gold Star match where they have to climb to the top of a pole and grab a star. I dunno. Whatever. So we have Cherry, Michelle McCool, Maryse, Kelly Kelly and Victoria. Natalya seems pretty cool on the mic. Mick, JR and Ms. Hart are shooting the breeze about the Hart family, having a good time. I dunno why but I'm still not buying Cherry as a fighter yet. Oh, there's some McCool hating going on on the mic. Natalya wants a piece of her to show her who's really a submission technician from the Dungeon. Surprise, surprise, Michelle McCool wins. No duh. Anyway, on to the next. Why are they acting like there's never been a chick champ before? It's not like they never had a belt before.

Vicki's backstage laying into Hawkins and Ryder for letting Edge lose his belt on Monday. So now they have to face Jesse and Festus next. Oh and Edge is walking thru the backstage area with his suitcase, looking pouty pissed.

Commercial break two and its for that Guitar Hero Aerosmith game. I dunno. Just not excited. Oh, and don't forget to change over to digital cable by February 2009 or you'll be SOL.

Wow, there's a four-way first tonight for the US Title! Fun.

Promo for Vladmir Kovlov, that Russian guy in the tighty whities who comes out to no music and beats people up real bad.

Up next is the Hawkins/Ryder vs. Jesse and Festus. Awww, Festus is dressed in an Uncle Sam costume with the beard and gloves and everything. Aww! Ding ding and Festus goes bonkers. I really think that these two deserve way more than they're given. I mean, have they lost yet? Prolly not very often. Ha ha "the corn-fed colossus"? I love JR. I love how they get the crowd all hyped out. Jeeze! Festus with a nasty finsher and the win. Oh no, Edge and his cronies attack Jesse and Festus but poor Festus can't fight back 'cause the bell already rang and he's back to being a zombie. Oh no! Edge with the chair to Festus' dome while the Edgeheads hold poor Jesse hostage. The crowd chanting "You suck!" as we go to commercial break. Edge must have snapped...again. This is becoming a habit, where he loses the belt and then throws a hissy fit til something happens.

Edge backstage whining to Vicki. He's naked, Vicki, don't you understand? Whoo, Vicki said she didn't give him permission to be on RAW. Permission?! Well the Rated R Superstar isn't having that. Vicki pulls the "I'm still your boss card" and Edge storms out. Whooooo! That was intense.

Jeff Hardy's next on Smackdown and we have to watch snippets of his video promo...again. Is he a big deal or not? I can't tell.

Commercial break? Again? Didn't we just have one? Jeeze.

WWE Rewind. It's the moment that we found out that Jeff was coming to Smackdown. And here he comes, to new music, I likey. Oh, who he facing, I wonder. I am happy to see him. I really just hope that he can stay unsuspended. This dude is totally the awesome-est. Oh, he's featured on this month's WWE Magazine. Go grab yours. Oh Jeff (sigh)...Eww, he's facing John Morrison. I love the random wind and slow motion cameras during his intro. Kinda reminds me of what happens if you program too many colors and screen effects and pyro stuff for your CAW intro on RvsSD and you get that lag every time you play the intro...but I digress. Deafening "Hardy" chants as the bell rings. This is prolly gonna be an awesome fight. Both these guys are wicked talented. I like this new Jeff Hardy, all on fire and stuff...til he crashes and burns.
We’re back and they’re still going at it. I’d like to tell you some of what’s going on, but they’re moving way too fast. Wow, Morrison just basically jumped from the top rope into a Jeff Hardy mid air Powerbomb counter. They’re both out til thelike, six count. Whoo! Whisper in the Wind and Morrison kicks out. Morrison pulls of this gorgeous soccer kick to Hardy’s skull while he’s on the top rope. Hardy with a nasty Facebuster and the Senton Bomb for the win. That was very, very cool. Jeff Hardy made an awesome debut back to Smackdown. Yay!

Hardy vs Chavo vs Shelton Benjamin vs Mr. Kennedy for the US Title. Very cool. I know that someone out there is happy to see Benjamin get a shot.

OMG!! RIC FLAIR DVD! AHHHH! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! Go grab yours!

Maria promo. She’s coming to Smackdown next week. Was I supposed to care?

Umaga’s out next. Why is he facing Funaki? Really? What’s the point? That lasted all of about two minutes and you know how it ended.

Edge is backstage griping about the whole “permission” thing to Hawkins and Ryder when he gets summoned to Vicki’s office by one of her lackeys. Dang, Edge’s all like “I got you this job”, and “I’m the real GM of Smackdown” and Vicki’s all “I’m stuck in this wheelchair because of you” and “I can’t really walk because of you” and he’s all “Don’t give me that gibberish” and she’s all “GET OUT!” Edge leaves then goes to get back in and realizes that she’s locked the door and no matter how much he yells she won’t let him back in. Drama!

Night of Champions recap. Thanks Shinedown for the NoC theme.

What is up with Kennedy’s new outfit? What is that? Well, welcome back to Smackdown, Mr. Kennedy! I missed you J Next out is Shelton Benjamin, the Gold Standard. I’m glad to see him getting some attention. Next is Chavo, with his bodyguard or whatever. Last, but certainly not least, here comes the US Champ, Matt Hardy. Yay! This is gonna be a good fight, and it’s only 9:35, so they have a good deal of time to play with.

Oh, Great American Bash is Sunday after next. So, yeah, mark your calendars.

Ding! Ding! Kennedy is exploding around the ring, til Benjamin connects his boot with his face. Wow, Chavo with a Head Scissors. That was nice. It’s cool to see these guys all in the ring together since they’re all such risk takers and great performers. Wow! Benjamin just totally Benjamin-ed Matt and Kennedy. Yes, “Benjamin-ed” is now a verb because I am just so impressed by how he comes up with these super athletic moves on the fly. Chavo’s got Matt is the Trifecta and is now going for the Frog Splash. Kennedy tries to block and is countered. Whoa, that was close. Chavo almost got the three count. Fast-forward. Hardy with the cover on Chavo and the win. Nice. Congrats dude!

9:47? Oh, we still have time left. The Slam of the Week highlighted CM Punk’s GTS to Edge.

Speaking of Edge, here he comes to the ring, no music or anything. Just the “You suck” chant from the crowd. He wants to give his first and last statement about what happened to him on RAW. Apparently, he was the victim of two attacks, one by Batista and one by CM Punk, and that whole thing with CM Punk shouldn’t have counted. It wasn’t fair. I guess now he knows how it feels to steal gold from others. He plans to be title-less only until he beats Triple H at GAB. Blah blah, he feels so alone and no one understands. Even Vicki won’t stand by him. Where’s the love? As he prepares to put her on blast, she comes out to fuss about him putting all their business out there. Oh, she is SO annoying! Grrr! “What are you doing?!” the she-beast shrieks. “What am I doing?” Edge retorts and walks up the ring to her. He has one last statement to make to her and the world. THE WEDDING IS OFF!! YESSSSS!!!! He walks off and leaves her screaming and throwing a fit and tossing her ring! Oh it was awesome! Yay!!!!!

First off pardon me if this post seems a little off I was at a BBQ and I had a few drinks(which I rarely do) and I'm a little buzzed. Anyway it may be the alcohol in my system but tonight's Smackdown looks excellent on paper it features PWB's favorite type of match A POLE MATCH!!! Victoria vs. Michelle McCool vs. Kelly Kelly vs. Cherry vs. Maryse the winner will face Natalya Neidhart for the WWE Smackdown Diva’s Championship. And we get a great swash match no not Vladimir Kozlov vs A Random No Name, its Umaga vs. Funaki excited yet?

Seriously, there's defiantly some things worth watching on tonights show Matt Hardy will defend his US Title in a Fatal-4-Way match with Ken Kennedy, Shelton Benjamin, Chavo Guerrero. Also Jeff Hardy and John Morrison will try to bring all that in ring chemistry they showed on Monday night's a year ago to Friday when they face off. And in a segment which is sure to be great Triple H will be the guest on MVP's "VIP Lounge". Here's the entire card for tonights show.

Fatal-4-Way for the US Title: Matt Hardy(c) vs. Ken Kennedy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Chavo Guerrero

Star On A Pole Match: Victoria vs. Michelle McCool vs. Kelly Kelly vs. Cherry vs. Maryse

Hawkins & Ryder vs. Jesse & Festus

Funaki vs. Umaga

Jeff Hardy vs. John Morrison

MVP's "VIP Lounge" with Triple H as his guest.

Edge and Vickie Guerrero will also be appearing on the show of course.

Poznaliśmy osoby wyróżnione prestiżowym tytułem Most Valuable Professional (MVP) w lipcowym cyk

Poznaliśmy osoby wyróżnione prestiżowym tytułem Most Valuable Professional (MVP) w lipcowym cyklu nominacyjnym – do grona polskich MVP dołączyły dwie osoby!

Karol Stilger – w kategorii Setup & Deployment. Moderator forum WSS.pl, założyciel Szczecińskiej Grupy Specjalistów IT technologii Microsoft.

Osoby nagrodzone takim tytułem m.in. otrzymują dostęp do kodów źródłowych oprogramowania, kontakt z twórcami oprogramowania Microsoft. Co roku odbywa się konferencja dla osób wyróżnionych tym tytułem - MVP Summit.

According to multiple source Brett Favre is thinking about un-retiring and re-joining the Packers.

Bad idea.

This is probably one of the biggest non-stories there is. ESPN reported it in April and then again in May, so I'm not surprised to hear it again now.

Thing is, Favre retired because he said he wasn't really willing to go through all of the emotional and physical preparation it takes to play a full season of NFL football. I can understand that. He's getting older. Obviously that is bound to happen.

I can also understand not wanting to depart from something you've been doing your entire life. Especially when you think you can still perform at a high level.

I'm not saying its easy to retire and that he should just do it and shut up.

...but it would be nice if he did...

Favre led the Packers to 2 Superbowls, 1 of which they won (against my beloved Drew Bledsoe, Terry Glenn, Curtis Martin Patriots). He's won MVPs, he's well liked, he has all the fame in the World and he can sell my Wrangler jeans any day of the week.

He just needs to move on.

Its over Brett.

Don't end your career like Dan Marino or Joe Montana. Just leave on a high note. Stay out.

Most of you that read this site regularly know who I am. If not, you may have heard of Milwaukee,

Most of you that read this site regularly know who I am. If not, you may have heard of Milwaukee, the city I'm from. And I know what you're thinking. Finally, this cheese eating beer chugger will post something. I have posted stuff before (not all penned by me, just the ones before May 15), but this is my first post since jumping over to the new site. I'm not sure why it's taken me about 2 months to post something. Probably because what started as a lowly Blogspot blog has blossomed into something so huge. And I got scared a lot of people would read it and make fun of me. That's not really true, because I don't get scared. But, I'm a big boy and I can handle the criticism. Anyways, since I know the suspense is killing you, on to the post:

Since we're at about the halfway mark, I figured it was about time to take a look at the possible MVP candidates. Most teams have played at least half of their games and it has become apparent who is leading those teams. Some shitty teams like Houston and San Diego sit in last place but have a guy playing out of his god damned mind. Then a team like Arizona, who has been in first place all year, has no one campaigning for the MVP award. Yesterday, Hef posted his midseason Jerkie awards and predicted that uber-douche Chipper Jones would win the award. I don't personally agree with this as his team is 4th in the East andunder .500. In addition, he missed some time with an injury and almost certainly will miss more time in the second half. It's as sure as the sun coming up.

Candidates: (In no particular order)

Hanley Ramirez- This kid is just a beast. Since coming into the league in 2006, he has been one of the most exciting players to watch in all of baseball. He reminds me of a young Alex Rodriguez. This kid has an excellent chance at becoming a 40/40 guy. Hanley has been a machine all year while keeping his team right in contention. He has hit 20 homers while OPSing.929 leading both of those categories among shortstops. He ranks second (1 run back) in the NLin runs scored. He has played in 82 of his teams 83 games this year. He had a slow month of May but his average is raising up and will soon be over .300. This season, he signed the most lucrative contract in club history, proving he wants to be a Marlin for the long haul. If Hanley doesn't win the award this year, look for him to be a perennial contender for the MVP award.

Chase Utley- Could Utley become the third straight player from the Phillies to win the MVP award? He most certainly is the catalyst for the team leading the NL East. He leads all of baseball in Home Runs with 23. Chase gets on base at a .383 pace. And when he gets on base, he scores. He is currently 4th in the NL in runs scored. Last year, while Utley was hurt the team underperformed when he wasn't in the lineup. The team went 15-13 and lost a game in the standings. This team needs Utley to stay on the field in order to hang on to that division and make a push through the playoffs.

Derrek Lee- As much as it kills me to say this, the bearded one is my pick to win the NL MVP this year. After hitting .371 in April, he has cooled off in May and June. But he still is hitting a solid .295 while keeping his team in first place of the competitive NL Central. The Cubs are 16 games over .500 and have a run differential of +100 while holding the best record in the National League. Lee is on pace for a 30 home run season and don't be suprised if his average rises over .300. Lee had a ridiculous 2005 season in which he batted .335 with 48 home runs. After suffering a few injuries over the past 2 years, he seems to have returned to his old self. Also, his Gold-Glove caliber defense goes unnoticed at first base. I think Lee has the best chance at winning the award if he can keep the Cubs as the class of the National League. And by the way, they could use some class in Chicago since the fans have none. One other reason Lee could win the award, the media and voters always seem to have a monster hard on for the Cubs.

Larry Jones- A lot of people think Ted Williams will be the last person to bat .400 ever. Tony Gwynn had a chance in 1994, when he was hitting .399 at the break, and ended the strike-shortened season at .394. Well, Chipper has as good a chance as any to do it. He is having an excellent offensive season. He has the highest average in the league at .394 halfway through the season. He has 16 home runs and is on pace to hit the most of any season since 2001. However, Chip has become quite friendly withthe injury bug as he is currently nursing a quad injury. He ranks 3rd in the National League in OPS behind on Berkman and Pujols. Chipper will need to stay healthy and he will have to propel his team to the playoffs if he wants to be in consideration for this award.

Albert Pujols- Pujols is quietly having another great season. He is on pace to have another 30 home run season. For those keeping track at home, that would be eight 30 HR seasons to start his career. He is a short list of players to do that which includes, well, only one name, Albert Pujols. With one stint on the DL already, Pujols has played in 71 on his teams 85 games. St. Louis is having breakout seasons from a few guys this year, but A-Pu is still the wheel that makes the clock turn. This team was 6-9 while he was on the DL. The Cardinals are 2nd in the Central and are holding the Wild Card. If Pujols continues to stay on the field and the team wins, he could win his 2nd MVP award.

Honorable mentions:

Lance Berkman- The Big Puma has a legit shot to become the first Triple Crown winner since Yaz did it in 1967. Berkman currently ranks 3rd in HR's (1 HR back), 1st in RBI's and 2nd in BA. And since I'm pretty sure Chipper is not going to hit anywhere close to .400, Lance really seems to have a shot at this. I know what you're thinking. Possible Triple Crown and only an honorable mention? Well, his team is 4 games under .500 and 10 games back in the division. If the Stros can make a playoff push, Berkman will no doubt be at the top of the discussion. But I am one who thinks about value to the team when determining MVP. If he wasn't on this team, where would they be? Maybe a handful more losses but still hovering near the bottom of their division. Someone probably will come up with a stat (WS or something) to rebut my point. So be it.

Dan Cooley Uggla- Isn't that a great middle name? Uggla has been a power machine all year. He currently leads all of baseball with23 home runs it's just the beginning of July. He is batting .290 this season while hitting a respectable .288 with runners in scoring position this season. Uggla is a main reason that Florida's leadoff hitter, Hanley Ramirez, is second in the NL in runs scored with 70 while Uggla himself ranks seventh with 57. Florida is just 0.5 games back of the Phillies in NLEast. The one issue I have withFlorida is that they have scored 17 runs less than they have given up this year. Although the D-Backs did it last year, it is pretty tough to win your division with a negative run differential.

Smackdown opened with HHH giving a little information about the condition of Vince Mcmahon. Edge and Batista then joined him and not to soon after the three were wrestling. Batista then speared Edge and took posession of the championship gold for the night.

Umaga in his first Smackdown match would face Batista in the main event. The match never reached its conclusion though seeing as how Zack Rider, Chavo and Curt Hawkins interfered. La familia then pumbled Batista until The Game came out and defended him. Smackdown closed with Batista and HHH in the ring celebrating.

Kane had a victory over MVP which prompted Big Show and Mark Henry to make their presence felt. The three would hold their battling until Sunday’s Noght of Champions however.

Just a few minutes ago I received an e-mail. “Dear Robert Cain,” it began, “Congratulations! We are pleased to present you with the 2008 Microsoft MVP Award! The MVP Award is our way to say thank you for promoting the spirit of community and improving people’s lives and the industry’s success every day.”

Wow.

I admit it’s a goal I’ve had for the last year and a half, and have worked hard to achieve, but I still have a hard time believing it’s finally happened. For those who are unfamiliar with the award, MVP stands for Most Valuable Professional. Microsoft gives the award for work in the user group communities. My award was given in the SQL area. I am humbled to be joining an elite crowd, worldwide the website shows only 223 people in this category. Even though the award is for my efforts, those efforts were in the community and I had a lot of help from the community. Thus there are some folks I’d like to publicly thank.

The first is Doug Turnure, who up until Monday was the Developer Evangelist (DE) for AL/MS/GA. Doug mentored me, and gave me a lot of practical, valuable advice. I’d also like to thank the new DE for the area, Glen Gordon, who also gave me aid. Two other DE’s, Joe Healy and Brian Hitney also deserve a word of thanks. Even though I lived out of their normal operating areas they still took time to answer my questions and let me know of speaking opportunities.

There are also some 2007 MVPs who took time to give me advice and guidance. Todd Miranda, Jeff Barnes, Wally McClure, Kevin Boles and Keith Elder deserve a big thank you.

Next I’d like to thank all my co-workers, too numerous to mention, who tolerated my constant e-mails about user group meetings, events, and suffered as I practiced my presentations on them.

I would also be neglectful if I failed to say thanks to everyone in the various user groups I attend. BSDA, BUG.Net, Steel City SQL, SOA Society, TechBirmingham and others opened their doors to me and gave me chances to give back to the community. I should also say thanks to the various user groups across the south east, such as Atlanta, Orlando, Tallahassee, and Huntsville (to name a few) who opened their doors to me.

To all the readers of my blog I also need to give thanks. Your participation via comments and e-mail feedback helped keep my blog alive as a source of ongoing information for the community.

Next I want to thank my daughters, Raven and Anna, for putting up with Daddy being gone weekly to user groups, having his nose constantly in a book or laptop, or having to travel and spend time in hotel rooms while Daddy was in code camps. (Don’t worry, they didn’t suffer too much, they invented popcorn and “chick flick” night to compensate, and with Mommy’s help easily found the shopping malls.)

Finally, and most importantly I need to thank my wonderful wife 'Ammie', for taking care of the household while I was giving presentations, for bringing me dinner at my computer while I worked on blog posts, and for putting up with all the late nights I’d crawl in bed after getting immersed with some fascinating new technology and losing all track of time. Thanks honey!

I was talking to a friend on Saturday and he was mentioning how great this season has been. I was still complaining (as was Bombs) about how much I miss the NBA. But he insisted that this has been a great year for Major League Baseball, due to the emergence of young players, teams and the fact that nearly EVERYONE is still in the running.

We talked about possible awards candidates.

For the NL:

MVP: has to be Lance Berkman. No question in my mind. He said Chase Utley, but Utley is still 10 runs behind Berkman, 14 hits behind, has fewer walks and only has a .297 batting average to Berkman's unreal .364 to this point.

I obviously expect Berkman to dip a little and Utley to get up around .320 or so to end the season. It’s not a one man race, but it doesn't look like it will be any more than a 6 man race as the season progress (Berkman, Utley, Chipper Jones, Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla and Jose Reyes).

Cy Young: This one surprised me. I thought for sure that Brandon Webb or Dan Haren would be the clear standout here, but actually if you look at ERA, K's and ignore record, Edinson Volquez is leading right now.

Volquez is 10-3 with a 2.08 ERA and 110 K's (to Webb's 12-4 94 K's 3.21 ERA). There are still a lot of other guys in the running here (Dan Haren, Ben Sheets, Tim Lincecum, Cole Hamels...hell, you could even throw in Johan Santana if the Mets ever decide to score some runs...) but it seems likely that the two candidates who will be left standing in September might be on the same team (Webb and Haren).

One other thing I want to make note of, 9 of the top 15 statistical batters are in the NL half way through the season. That's pretty unexpected...

For the AL:

MVP: My friend Crowley was almost positive it was Josh Hamilton. I actually could not think of anyone in the AL that seemed to be head and shoulders above the rest. Hamilton has been great so far. But the person who is statistically ahead of Hamilton right now?

Teammate Ian Kinsler.

Kinsler leads the MLB in runs scored (71) at the half way mark. He's 5th in the bigs in doubles (25) has 20 steals, is hitting an AL best .323 and leads the MLB in hits (110). His 13 HR and 50 RBI may seem like sort of an afterthought (because he barely cracks the top 25 in RBI and doesn't even come close in HR), but those stats in combination with the most runs scored, Most hits in baseball, highest BA in the AL and 20 steals? He's the leader right now.

But Josh Hamilton is not far behind. Hamilton has 19 HR's, an obscene 79 RBI and a .312 BA. If he can pull out some extra Home Runs and get the BA above .330, I'd say he has an outside chance to get the Triple Crown (the odds are probably still like 1000-1...which is why I would bet $100 on it).

Allow me to list the remaining guys in the top 25 overall, who are from the AL:

Carlos Quentin (yes, really. he has 19 HR and 61 RBI but is only batting .280 and doubt that lasts).

Grady Sizemore (batting a pathetic .268 at this point, but has 19 HR, 45 RBI and 19 steals. He'll improve...or should)

Milton Bradley (ALSO FROM TEXAS! Somehow they have 3 of the top 5 offensive players in the AL this season so far. He is also batting .323 with 16 HR and 49 RBI)

Jermaine Dye

JD Drew (yeah, that's how statistically rough the AL is in overall offense right now...not that he's having a rough year...but to be in the top 7 for MVP voting half way through?)

Alex Rodriguez.

So out of the top 25 offensive players in baseball through the half way point, only 8 of them are from the AL in overall offense. Yikes.

Cy Young: Cliff Lee is well ahead of the curve in the AL right now. Will that last? Who knows? But the rest of it is such a crapshoot at this point that I wouldn't be surprised to see Mariano Rivera in the running (22 Saves 0.74 ERA and 0.55 WHIP....INSANE.).

Other possibilities:

Justin Duchscherer

John Lackey

Ervin Santana

Roy Halladay

Rich Harden (if healthy)

Joe Saunders (HAS 11 WINS!!?!?!)

Scott Kazmir

Josh Beckett

Almost anything can happen there.

As far as overall records go, I would have to say that the two teams that had the most unfulfilled expectations coming into this year would have to be the Tigers and the Mets. The Tigers are 41-40, while the Mets are 40-41. Neither is on pace to make the playoffs or set the world on fire in any way but both are still capable of rebounding. The Tigers have already started an upswing. The Mets...well...They sort of suck. But either way, this was not what anyone expected from either team.

All though...The Mets having a -1 Run Differential is pretty telling. Shitty pitching, not enough hitters. And Detroit having a +4 run differential is equally as telling. It’s almost like they are the same team in different leagues. Obviously the Tigers have the better offensive team...but what the hell happened to Magglio Ordonez? What happened to Sheff? What happened to Placido Polanco? What happened to Miggy? What in God's name happened to Dontrelle Willis? I mean, I didn't expect Willis to win 20 games...but...I expected him to be INT HE BIG LEAGUES...and probably be like 13-10 or so....at least...Hell...Even 10-13 wouldn't be that bad to have at the bottom of a rotation like that...

This Tigers team is lucky they don't play in New York or Boston, or they would be dead. Jim Leyland probably would have been fired; people would be sending death threats to Miguel Cabrera. It wouldn't be a pretty sight.

But neither of them even approaches the awfulness that is the Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres and defending NL Champion Colorado Rockies.

It doesn't look like it'll be Rocktober anytime in 2008...

I know they can still win like 27 games in a row and win the division...but this does not look like last year's team. They've lost 7 in a row and have -76 run differential. Worse, they are a pathetic 20-19 at home. That's just sad. The defending NL Champions should, at the very least, be winning games at home on a consistent basis.

Seattle is 31-50 with a -59 run differential.

San Diego is 32-51 with at -88.

The worst? By far the Washington Nationals.

33-50 with a -114 run differential. Proving that old adage, you can take a team out of Montreal, but you can't take Montreal out of a team.

Horrific. The fact that they are 33-50 and NOT something like 18-65 surprises me. They SHOULD only have about 22 or 23 wins. If they keep playing like this, they WILL NOT finish with 50 wins. The numbers will even out. And not in a good way. That's right, I'm predicting that if the Nats do not get their run differential below 110 by the end of the season, they will only win 17 games in the second half.

But run differential is a strange mistress. The Rangers have the most runs scored in the bigs (456) and as I said above, 3 of the top 6 offensive players in the AL. Unfortunately, they have the WORST PITCHING IN BASEBALL and have surrendered 467 runs. Also the most given up in the bigs. What's worse? They're in third and 7.5 games out of first in their division. Yikes.

In Boston, the word on the street is that the Yankees might as well roll over and die because they have "no pitching". Yes, the ace of that staff (Wang) is out until September. But they are still winning games. And Giambi has the porn stache. That's got to count for something. I'm not ready to say they're dead yet.

The Red Sox scare me because a) so many injuries. b) This 'one guy gets hurt someone else steps up to fill the void' thing isn't going to last another 81 games. c) Even at their best, this team doesn't look like a World Series caliber team. But then again...who does?

Also, what in the hell happened to the Indians?

It’s been a strange season so far.

In a hard fought battle The Game HHH was able to successfully edge out Cena in his attempt to regain title gold. Edge was also (with the help of Chavo as guest referee) able to get the job done with Batista. This leaves Raw with no world title currently.

Kane was defeated in the triple threat match for ECW championship. After a hard fought battl Mark Henry was able to get the pin and bring the gold back home to ECW.

Matt Hardy pulled out a victory over Chavo Guererro even with La Familia lurking around backstage.

Ted Debiase Jr. shock us all as he somehow got Cody Rhodes to betray Hardcore Holly and got him to join him as his partner for the tag team championship. The team of Debiase and Rhodes proved to much for Hardcore and he lost the titles.

Chris Jericho was also shocked as the young, high flying Kofi took his belt away from him. Announcing the new intercontinental champion Kofi Kingston.

Mickie James also retained her title against Lea Burchill proving that her reign is here to stay.

Football is not Alexander’s first love.

He led the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl and was voted the NFL’s MVP for 2005, and he graced the cover of Madden 07.

Now he is unemployed. Alexander said he is in communication with seven teams but did not identify them.

“I’m asking God to close doors that need to be closed and open up whatever needs to be open so I can go there, win a Super Bowl, impact the team, impact the community,” Alexander said. “That’s been my goal.”

Maybe if playing football was his only goal, some general managers wouldn’t have called Alexander, 30, “washed up.”

For those of you who aren’t aware of South Africa’s other influence in one of the world’s greatest professional sports, here’s a little known trivia fact about Steve Nash [currently with the Phoenix Suns], who was the Most Valuable Player in the NBA for two consecutive years [2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons], following in the footsteps of greats like Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Charles Barkley.

Steve was born in Johannesburg and spent several years here while his dad played professional soccer. He later moved to Canada, and is now sadly billed as Canadian. So while it is officially a Canadian that was the NBA MVP two years in a row, we know better – he’s South African!

Dark Match:
* Tommy Dreamer b. Kevin Thorn after hitting a DDT.

WWE SmackDown: (Airing This Friday)
* Mick Foley makes his way out to ringside. So far, no sign of Jim Ross.

* SmackDown opens with Vickie Guerrero nearly in tears talking about Vince McMahon's "accident." She receives a lot of heat and wishes Vince well. She says she hopes he's not in a wheelchair. She announces new SmackDown color commentator, Jim Ross. He makes his way out to ringside as the crowd explodes!

* Triple H comes out to cut a promo. He gets a huge pop. Triple H welcomes Jim Ross to SmackDown by saying he is the best and he's glad he came with him. He the talks about Night of Champions. Edge comes out to interrupt him. He tells Triple H that they can get both get along. Hunter disagrees by saying that both have too big of egos and that Edge won't have the World Championship after Sunday's Night of Champions pay-per-view.

Edge combats by saying this is his house and that Triple H needs to respect him. Batista then comes out. Hunter then pushes Edge and Batista hits him. They both hold the title up while Edge is on the ground.

* Rey Mysterio's last appearance on SmackDown is announced for tonight.

* Big Show & Kane b. MVP & Mark Henry
The match was back and forth throughout. MVP tagged himself in and got in trouble with Kane. He tried to leave but Mark Henry threw him back in. Kane pins him for the win.

* Finlay & Hornswoggle b. Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins
Huge pop for Finlay & Hornswoggle. The match was pretty much one sided throughout and Finlay & Hornswoggle take the win. The Miz & John Morrison stand on the entrance ramp with their belts.

* Edge b. Matt Hardy
I'm told this was a pretty decent match throughout. Lots of holds and counter holds. Edge wins with a spear after several near falls. Lots of crowd heat on Edge.

* Maryse, Victoria, & Natalya b. Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool, & Cherry
The match was back and forth throughout. The crowd could have cared less. After all the divas get involved Maryse gets the roll up pin on Cherry for the win!

* It is announced that Kennedy won't be on SmackDown until next week.

* Vladimir Kozlov b. Domino
Real quick match. Heat on both Superstars.

* Rey Mysterio comes out wearing street clothes and his mask. He explains to the fans that he has been drafted to Monday Night Raw and he hopes everyone will tune in weekly to watch him. He goes on to say hopefully he can fulfill more of his dreams.

Batista then comes out and says he will back Rey wherever he goes.

* Batista vs. Umaga
Umaga has control early on. The match moves slowly. Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins come running out while Edge grabs his belt. La Familia beat Umaga.

Triple H comes out and helps Batista clean house. Pedigree and Batista Bomb on Zack Ryder & Kurt Hawkins.

Batista grabs the mic and said at first he was upset about the Draft. Triple H then told him he was going to do good on Raw. SmackDown goes off the air.

I have found enough spare time to put up a new release of the staff intranet project, for those who are not aware of this project it is a demonstration of using best practices, principles & patterns in a real world web application so if your looking for pointers or some code to use for your own applications go give it a look on codeplex.

In this newest version I have added AOP support to cut down on cross cutting code and also the ability to delete staff members from the GridView, most of the time spent was fighting against the asp.net controls (suprise, surprise) such as the GridView and the ObjectDataSource, I'm not sure what the guy(s) who created the ObjectDataSource object was smoking at the time but it must have been stronger than just tobacco :-)

My next release I want to demonstrate adding some service support showing how we can re-use existing code so they become little more than a remote facade (in theory!).
