As an Indian, I feel proud to see this video. But when I think of Ravi, the kid in this video, I feel bad that he has to spend his life on the streets when he could have achieved so much in his life. This is not just the story of Ravi, its the story of India. Immense talent, immense power, but still criminally under-utilized. Spread this video around, if you can.

It is generally accepted that the term ‘Brand India’ refers to the controlled activities that have repositioned India in the mind of the international business community. Figures released by the Commonwealth Business Council last week show that foreign direct investment in India from the UK alone totalled £560 million last year, making it one of India’s biggest investors, so you have to conclude that the repositioning has been successful.

India is now synonymous with commerce, IT and a growing middle class rather than the stereotypes of snake charmers, rickshaws and beggars, this doesn’t mean that some of these elements have disappeared; it just means that our perceptions have been changed.

To drive Brand India forward (at least in a business sense) the country needs to develop a brand that can compete on the global stage, a brand that can do for India what Nokia, Sony and Samsung did for Finland, Japan and South Korea and what Lenovo is doing for China. Given the size of the domestic market Indian brands have not yet focussed on international markets, although Indian conglomerates have been quick to seize under performing UK brands like Virgin Radio, Tetley Tea, Corus, Land Rover and Jaguar.

Having said this Indian business still suffers from some perception problems. Last year Orient Express Hotels refused to be associated with Taj Hotels when the Indian chain proposed an alliance. While the real reason for this decision has been clouded by claim and counter claim many believe that Orient Express did not want to be associated with an Indian company, as it would damage their brand.

Away from business as we get closer to 2010 we can expect to hear even more about Brand India as Delhi prepares to host the Commonwealth Games. This opportunity will put India in the international spotlight and it provides the chance to explode a few more myths and to change a few more perceptions but this time for tourists and visitors to the country.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has already started its preparations by deciding to rid the Delhi streets of 400,000 rickshaw-wallahs in an attempt to modernise the city. Apparently they have already banned street food, cows and monkeys from the roads, although how you ban an animal is beyond me and judging by my last visit they have failed in this respect. The plan is to reduce the number of rickshaws to 100,000 and require their owners to pass a driving test in readiness for the Games.

It is a fact that Delhi needs to modernise and I dislike it intently when foreigners buy in to some romantic notion of a country that is anything but, yet the rickshaw story made me think about the problems of rapid modernisation in relation to a national brand. I believe that in the rush, authentic associations that differentiate India from any other country in the world could be lost and the real brand of India will be diluted. There is also a danger that segments of society get left behind, as is the case with the rickshaw-wallahs, this plan will affect them and the many people who can’t afford a car but still require cheap convenient transport to navigate gridlocked roads.

Looking at how the country has modernised to date the sector that has moved quickest is the retail sector and it provides a salutary lesson. Ironically due to the success of Brand India attracting foreign direct investment the sector lacks any Indian identity.

With many of the large international retailers and fast food outlets already ensconced in shopping malls they look and feel like international air-conditioned bubbles (see image below), if you removed the people you could be anywhere in the world.

The commercial and residential property sectors face similar problems with hybrid architectural styles being combined to create mixed up, mixed-use developments that lack any kind of distinctiveness (see image below).

India is a unique and complex country with a real sense of authenticity, its culture and history provides it with a clear positioning on the global map, and this provides real equity for the national brand.

As change takes place and the country looks to the future I hope that it can articulate its brand values and personality through all aspects of design whether it be architecture, signage systems, street furniture, retail spaces, public spaces or infrastructure projects like transport hubs.

Delhi and India’s other major cities need to be an expression of the real brand of India, a vision is needed for what constitutes ‘modern India’, Mumbai should not try to present itself as Shanghai or Dubai or anyone else, it needs to differentiate itself and jealously guard its sense of self as it seeks to modernise.

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is not only the capital of Maharashtra, but also the Financial capital of India. This city is the center for all major institutions in the country like The RBI, Atomic Research Center, Army, Navy and Airforce headquarters and many others. The city, unlike others, is known to be tolerant towards all. The city is also historically important as the Indian National Congress, which spearheaded the Indian Freedom Movement was founded here. Also the Quit India Movement was started from here.

The city has a large heart and has always welcomed strangers with open arms. It is also heartening to note that whoever has the will to work hard can earn enough to feed himself.

Such is Mumbai - The city of dreams, The city that never sleeps. The city where I live.

In the following series, I have just tried to highlight different aspects of the City that keeps it running. From the BEST buses and Local Trains, to the Dabbawallahs and the local newspaper vendor, they all contribute to the City of Dreams.

So I hope you like this small series. All your feedbacks are welcome. My mail id is pradeepmenon89@gmail.com

Saturday, Dahisar, East.

Saturday, Dahisar, East.

Sandeep and me came out after watching "Jaane Tu....Ya Jaane Naa" As we walked toward the main road trying to get a vada pao or something to eat, we came to the restaurant. Just next to the restaurant was the BEST bus stop. As we walked past the bus stop we noticed an old man lying on the ground. It seems that he was drunk but we were not sure. He could have been sick too. Many people walked past by him as he lay on the floor. They looked back but were reluctant to help.

Yes! Mumbai can be heartless many times.

Sandeep and I stood there discussing if he was drunk or sick or in trouble. I remembered the number written on many Police Van and Police station about a helpline for children, senior citizen and women.

I was in no position to help the man for whatever reason and I was not sure if I could call the helpline for such a matter. I don't know how they would take the call. Finally after encouragement from Sandeep, I called up 103. This helpline is for informing about crime and abuse against Children, Senior citizen and women.

You can give information in Hindi and Marathi. You can provide any information about a crime or abuse or anything that you think the Police ought to know or just want to help. You are not required to give any information about yourself so don't worry about being hounded by Police or visit the police station to give a detailed report of what happened. Be clear while informing them and give correct address. Give them landmarks near the incident so that they can send someone to help immediately.

Just 10 minutes after we had made the call, a mobile Police van arrived at the location. We had made a mistake in giving them the exact address and I called back to give them the correct address. The Police attended the man. He was indeed quite drunk and seeing the police he promised to go home. But he was so drunk that he slept again on the footpath. The police made arrangement to give him lemon juice or tea from a nearby hotel. A stranger among the crowd came to pay for the tea.

Yes! Mumbai does have a heart many times.

By the time we had left, the Police were still trying to make the man stand.

It was heartening to know that the Mumbai Police reacted immediately and attended the call.

If you are in Mumbai and see any abuse against women, Senior citizen and children, be an alert citizen and please call up;

103

You can help someone in distress and get them help even if you are not in a position to help.

And Yes! Hats off to Mumbai Police for their prompt response!

Mumbai police got caught in this as they were not very clear to how charge the company on this issue. Finally company was charged with IPC 147,148,and 149 on promoting riot.

I did not write any thing for the longest time as I thought I could not do justice to my experiences with food and good times. I don't know how to write reviews. I am not a professional critique. Yet I want to add two bits of my experiences in every new city that I have been to.

I went out for lunch with my cousin's last afternoon. Original plan was to go to Thai Ban. That was closed yesterday so we walked down the street to Mia Cucina as a second choice.

This is a small cosy restaurant at an offshoot road of Ambedkar road in Pali Hill. Has limited seating capacity so there can be a long waiting line. That is worth it methinks. The food was awesome, decor soothing and staff pleasant. Some of the dishes have hiked prices. Might try them another time. I highly recommend the breads and Char grilled chicken with spinach.
The place didn't have some of the drinks we ordered, and we didn't have deserts. So that calls for another trip.

PS: I will try and get photos of places that I visit. I think it is time for me to get my camera out.

It is late and, to an extent, disrespectful to the person in context, of me to write a post almost a fortnight after the actual event took place.

The event revolved around Ghazal maestro Hariharan, one of my musical idols performing in an audi near Siddhi Vinayak. He absolutely floored the crowd with his silk of a voice. Started off with Kaash and ended the night with public demands.

I also realised he is a family friend. My dad keeps telling me he is, but I kept putting it off as an overweight bluff. Still, after knowing the truth, that didn't stop me from getting star-struck.

Positives to take:
I learned the meaning of a ghazal, the words danced beautifully into place and giving a superb poetic meaning to the song.
I am motivated enough to work hard towards my music.

Negatives:
Interruptions from the crowd at times.

All in all, one of the best live performances from one of my favourite vocalists.
Just wanted people to know.

From male Rekha imitators to gay executives, director Sridhar Rangayan has depicted a range of homosexual exeperiences in his films. 68 Pages is his third movie after Gulabi Aaina, about drag queens, and Yours Emotionally!, about a gay affair British tourist and an Indian male. Rangayan's new feature, 68 Pages, is about the lives of five HIV-positive individuals as told by counselor (Mouli Ganguly). The stories are of corporate employee Nishit (Zafar Karachiwala), prostitute Payal (Jayati Bhatia), transsexual bar dancer Umrao (Uday Sonawane), gay researcher Kiran (Joy Sengupta) and municipal sweeper Nathu (Abhay Kulkarni). The storytelling style is as basic as the aesthetics, but some episodes are moving, especially those of Umrao and Payal. 68 Pages is scheduled to be screened on June 26 at a city multiplex. A DVD release is also planned.

Amateurish! is the first word that comes to my mind when i think of
Jaane Tu, the latest product out of the Aamir Khan production
house, and i surprise myself.

I went to the movie on its release day, expecting some more of that intelligent cinema that Aamir, one of my few last remaining bollywood hopes, has mastered so wonderfully, but found the movie a package full of age-old cliches mixed with cameo gigs revolving around an umpteenth remake of the best friends turned lovers theme.

So, Imran Khan plays Jai Rathore, a harmless guy next door who has a best friend in cat-fighting Aditi( Genelia ), who think they're great friends, but not made for eachother( despite everyone else believing that ).
Hence, they undertake the cliched path of searching partners for eachother, and end up realizing that they're infact the only 1s for eachother(as every1 else had known all the time ). Although the side gigs are not all that bad, wid nice parts by Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan, the movie fails to keep u interested, especially through the second half. The dialog delivery through most of the film is very mediocre( esp. Genelia ), and the acting is on occasions over-done, just to emphasize on the cheerful goings-on. The American sitcom style gang of friends approach also fails to provide anything refreshing. AR Rehman's catchy music is probably the only good part.

Why Aamir, known to be so selective with what he works on, decided to go ahead wid this movie is unknown, and i'm not saying dat it's gonna repel every1 lyk it repels me( esp. the lovers of masala time pass hindi flicks ), but it just seems to let down on the series of great works coming from Aamir's production house( read Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, RDB, TZP ). I won't really recommend ppl to spend 160 bucks lyk i did, but rather make it a 1 time dvd watch, just for the sake of Imran Khan's debut, who plays his part well enough.

Rating: 6/10 + bad job 4 editing,n dialogues.
Watch out 4: Prateik Babbar ( interesting debut )

Worried that property prices may cool down? With India tipped to become the most sought after real estate market among emerging economies, you may not really have to fasten your safety belts just yet. In fact, just 10 land deals in India over the past 12 months were valued at over a whopping Rs 15,000 cr. Evidence enough to prove that reports citing office rentals in Delhi and Mumbai being costlier than more developed real estate markets such as New York City, Dubai and Singapore, are not off the mark. Although Delhi and Mumbai still held on to seven out of top 10 mega realty deals in the country, Hyderabad and Chennai too emerged as hotspots for big ticket transactions. With an acute shortage of land in metro cities and escalating land costs, it will not be long before other locations such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Pune will grow as centres of major land deals in the near future. Real Estate Investing has probably made more millionaires than any other industry in Hyderabad. Real Estate Investing also offers many rewards including cash flow, security, long-term wealth and numerous tax benefits.

What are dream homes made of? That’s a question I often ask myself. Swanky high-rise, plush marble

What are dream homes made of? That’s a question I often ask myself. Swanky high-rise, plush marble floors, ample rooms, snazzy decors, location, neighbourhood, blah blah. While all those things are cool, they wouldn’t exactly compose my dream home. And I realise that no matter how many of those things you get right, your home will still be one-step short of being a dream home… Why you ask? Yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan!

Okay let me give you my example. I live with my parents (what, it’s normal in India for a 24 yr old girl) and they bought this house back in the 80s.

Its a five minute drive to Dad’s office, it was housed in an old building that boasted of Scottish architecture, Italian mosaic floors and a brown-tiled roof. We were housed on the top floor, with humongous rooms and loads of airy windows. For the toddler in me, it was a great wide space for hiding and seeking. The building had a nice garden that was promptly taken over by Mum. There’s 2 schools and 4 colleges within a walking distance. There are two vegetable markets in the area, both are a 5-10 minute walk. The station is a 15 minute walk and there’s a bus-stop right under with over 20 buses connecting us to the city! Brilliant.

The house has few rooms but they are big and spacious. Me and my sister, have taken over the attic. We have our tiny little den cut off from the rest of the house, every teenager’s dream come true!

So yes, I live in my dream house. I have my parents to thank. I love it that it takes me 25 minutes to get to work on a great day and 45 on bad day! I love it that I can reach anywhere in the city in 40 minutes (on an average! Don’t ask me how long I’d take to come to Yaari road!)

But… there’s a catch. The area I live in is the quieter side of the town. We have few multiplexes, and even fewer restaurants around. Me and the sister are adventurous with cinema and food, and our area does little to cater to that. Most of the restaurants within a 20 minute reach are fantastic, but they’ve been here ages and we know the menus inside out!

India, especially Mumbai, is getting global. We’ve got world cinema releasing in our theatres, we have cuisines of the world being offered on the menus (dude! The quality is really bad and if you want the real thing, be ready to cough up an entire month’s salary!) and of course we have interesting brands coming to our malls.

That makes Mumbai such a vibrant city doesn’t it? Of course, but all that happens in the suburbs of Mumbai. The world cinema is released at a late night show in a theatre far far away. At the end of a tiring day at work, I don’t feel like taking a drive down through the mad-mad homeward bound traffic. And the parents don’t exactly feel great about us daughters being out in a film till 1 am and then driving back home.

Every week, the newspapers recommend new restaurants, new pubs. I see what’s on offer and I say, “I am going there!” Then I look to the bottom of the review and read Malad, Andheri (W), Goregaon and Mulund and the enthusiasm just pipes down. I don’t mind driving all the way, but then the prospect of spending 2 hours stuck in traffic listening to Emraan Hashmi films’ songs lifted from some Chinese musicians doesn’t excite me at all!

BIGFlix, the new DVD rental service on the block, has my list of dream movies, but guess what, they don’t have a single outlet remotely close to my area! And they have a rocking network in the suburbs. Result: I don’t get prompt service from them nor can I go and demand movies L

It is times like these when I start to think about moving to the suburbs. Life is vibrant there. With the new restaurants, funky theatres, new services offered and a plethora of pubs and clubs, I believe that the true spirit of Mumbai is out there. I share this with a friend who lives in the suburbs and she goes, “You mean you want to eat at new restaurants and watch crazy films from countries I haven’t heard of and for that you’re ready to switch places! Sounds good I don’t mind living in your exotic building, walking to work everyday and chilling….”

The grass is always greener on the other side! For now, I will settle for the green grass on the Parsi Gymkhana lawns that I can see from my window…

The Real estate industry in India has been growing by leaps and bounds in the past few years. Howeve

The Real estate industry in India has been growing by leaps and bounds in the past few years. However, the country still lacks a credible way to cross-check the price swings (real or reported) in the sector. For example, recent reports of residential prices cooling off in major cities of the country could not be verified.

There was no authentic data to indicate such a trend. Thus, property buyers remain confused, not knowing, for instance, whether Mumbai property prices fell more than that of Delhi in the last quarter?

The same does not happen with equity investors. If, at the end of the day, anyone wants to know the day’s market trend, he could visit BSE/NSE website or see next day’s newspaper to know the exact rise or fall of Sensex or Nifty. And nobody questions the authenticity of Sensex or Nifty as a barometer of market sentiment. With years of index publishing, a sort of credibility and association has been built with the equity investors by these financial institutions.

Could National Housing Bank (NHB) replicate the same with various real estate stakeholders — government and policymakers, builders, individuals and housing finance industry? Could it start making its real estate index figures (Residex) public, say every three months?

NHB made a beginning in this direction in 2005 when it launched a project for preparation of the real estate price indices for the residential housing segment, NHB Residex. To start with, the project envisaged compiling the indices for 10 cities — Greater Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Jaipur and Patna. It also gave price appreciation figures for major cities at the time of the launch of the index. However, getting data from NHB has been tough for analysts.

With various mutual funds planning to soon launch real estate funds, it is imperative that a reliable index data, preferably from a government body like NHB, is made available to act as a benchmark.

Capturing real estate prices in India has its own challenges. Thanks to different types of housing that are made available by builders, there are large variations in property price in a single locality. It is difficult to put a single price to a locality which has different class of houses, say premium as well as low cost.

However, NHB with its wealth of information on loan disbursements and other crucial figures could do a lot for the industry. Since most financiers would have data on a city wise basis, it could be shared with NHB for internal index calculation purposes. If NHB cracks the same, it could be one big step towards making the industry more competitive.

Ridiculous topic for a post, I know. But it's been a while and I am damn particular about my coffee. Black, no milk, no sugar, thank you very much. But this is somehow inexplicable to every waiter I have ever come across.

At a Barista (the proper noun), the other day, I was just lounging around, waiting for a couple of friends to show up. Since punctuality is the art of waiting for the unpunctual, I decided to make the most of it with a copy of “The Remains of the Day” by Ishiguro and a coffee. But what followed was enough to take my mind of Ishiguro completely.

Me: “Excuse me”

Waiter: “Yes sir?”

Me: “I’d like a black coffee please”

W: “Sir, do you want an espresso or a mochachilo?” (At least I think it was these two things)

Me: “No no. I just want a black coffee, no milk.”

W: “I’m sorry Sir, we don’t serve that.”

Me: “???”

W: “Perhaps you can take a look at the menu.”

Me: (After regaining my voice) “This IS a coffee shop right?”

W: “Yes Sir” (aware that he was talking to a probable lunatic)

Me: “All I am asking for is a black coffee without any milk or sugar in a large cup.”

W: (something finally ringing a bell) “That’s it?”

Me: “Yup. Thanks a lot.”

W: “But that is black coffee”. With the awestruck look of Mike Gatting when he was bowled round the legs by Shane Warne.

Me: “Yes, I know”. I mean, I know that a huge cup of steaming black coffee isn’t exactly the best thing for my constitution, but with the whiskey and the cigarettes, this seems an acceptable risk.

W: “All right Sir”, retiring only to be replaced by a stronger willed individual.

W2: “Excuse me Sir, you ordered a black coffee, no milk. Is that right?”

Me: (Inwardly sighing but outwardly trying to be nonchalant) “Yes, that’s right”

W2: “And that’s the entire order?”

Me: “For now, yes. I’m expecting a couple of friends to join me in a bit.”

W2: “Okay Sir”. Although I think he felt like adding “It’s your funeral”.

Minutes later my coffee arrived. But now my curiosity was aroused.

Me: “Excuse me, but why was there such difficulty in understanding my order?”

W2: “Well Sir, It’s just that no one orders black coffee here”

Me: “Come again please. This is a coffee shop!!! So what do people order?”

W2: “Other things Sir. A latte, an espresso, a mochachilo, a mochachino.” This seemed to rhyme and I expectantly waited for him to go on to a mochashino (a shiny mocha), moachadino (a Jurassic Park mocha), a mochalino (it’s just lined with mocha, more healthy) and a mochamino (it’s mine and you can’t share it!). But unfortunately he didn’t.

Me: Unable to carry on this conversation any further. “Okay, thank you.”

W2: “Thank you sir.”

Just after this entertaining interlude, my friends walked in. After the usual “Wassups” they gave their orders.

Friend 1: “I’ll have a double espresso and he will have a cafe latte with whipped cream, no ice”

W2: “Yes sir.”

Sigh. Outwardly, this time.

Last Night I had an enriching experience at Grand Hyaat, Mumbai on microfinance. The occasion was Srijan 2008 Award Ceremony. Srijan is the Microfinance Business Plan Competition, an initiative by Intellecap. The day was full of activities. There were presentation by 10 finalists whose business plans were chosen from the 72 participants and then there were panel discussions and of course dinner. I along with other colleagues and friend attended the last two panel discussions which were primarily focusing on the linkage of MFIs and Investors, the options available like different debt financing models as well concerns over the growing decline trend of available fund to Tier-II, Tier-III or Start up MFIs.

Some interesting thoughts came out during those two discussions we attended. Like, if MFI start to think of Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR then, where are we heading and another thought like,in this credit squeezed scenario, can the Bigger MFIs or so called Tier-I MFIs can lend to Tier-III or Start up Organization to make them creditworthy to banks or investors.

I must say this was eye opening for me. Microfinance is no longer mere social concept. This event was attended by people from multiple sectors, be it Asset Management Companies, Investment Banking, Venture Capitalist, Donor Agency. …and the list goes on.

It was inspiring for me to see those finalists with spark and full of confidence in their eyes to do something for the society. It was nice talking to the Man behind Bihar Development Trust, Mr. Ravi Chandra.

I was very delighted to see the Praseeda Kunam who used to our Guest Faculty in Rural Finance Subject wining the “Most Innovative Business Plan –One” award for her work in Rewa District of Madhya Pradesh. Those who know Rewa, they can understand what efforts she is putting by her own MFI Samhita there.

The final prize was awarded to Pochampally Chentha Kalanetha / Akshara. , the initiative of G Muralidhar.

After the Dinner we met with some of our seniors (alumni) and it was refreshing experience talking to them.

The Govt has already given up on combating inflation, when one of the FM secretary s’ directly

The Govt has already given up on combating inflation, when one of the FM secretary s' directly put the onus of inflation control on the RBIs doorstep. And some foreign agencies expect the inflation to reach 15% by the yr end.

The RBI has done more lip service to inflation than combat it and it shows. If u want to know how the rupee has depreciated in real terms, which means increase in currency and inflation, don't see the Rupee Dollar chart, see the Yahoo Rupee Euro chart.

And the chart clearly shows that from Aug 2007 levels the Euro has appreciated 15% against the dollar. But the Euro has appreciated 21% against the Rupee , a whole 7% more than it has appreciated against the dollar, which means for purchasing 1 Euro one has to spend Rs67 + bank charges, up from Rs 56 /57 some time back, which only shows that the Rbis Monetary policy is failing and instead of curtailing inflation it is importing inflation, thanks to all the Dollar purchases during the last year in the name of stabilizing the Rupee, and keeping it artificially low to protect the Exporters leading to a 5% rupee depreciation in a year. Worse we have massive reserves in dollars now Up from $200 Billion in Apr 07 or as per the site it stood at 1,96,632 to $300 Billion 302,744 on Jun 20 08 Up a whopping $100 Billion, and this reserve is large and loosing value by the day as dollar is a falling against most other currency s and Gold. I need not remind u that the Iraq war was also fought for the dollar hegemony, and even Iran wants to be paid in Euros for its Oil. See falling Dollar rising OIL.

China with its totalitarian regime and its surplus can afford playing the game, heck! it is even threatening to use its forex reserve as an economic weapon against the US, but can India with its Fiscal Deficit and mismanagement afford it ? and remember after all those massive subsidies some of which go for unwanted purposes, the poorest of the aam admi still pays bribes. No wonder babus want to join Politics.

Inflation in India is managed , so are the interest rates. Worse Taxation, controls and the misrule has meant a not so vibrant debt market and poor BCD (Bond-Currency-Derivatives) nexus making the monetary policy less effective. People holding a whole host of investments from the bank S/B ac to the Fixed deposits to the postal deposit are facing Horribly Negative Returns.

Remember Vietnam printed too many dongs leading to a gold based economy and loss of interest in the national currency. The problem was also exacerbated by its massive negative return of 11% on capital wherein the Inflation rate was 25% while its interest rate on june 11 was 14% . Read this post and this one . Here is a post on negative real rates world over.

Thankfully we are a very long way from Mugabe's Zimbabwe where the rate of 165,000 percent inflation is so high that the govt is finding it difficult to get paper to print more notes.

Ila writes in her post Central bank misrules

.......................................................................................................................................................................

The first and most obvious question to ask in this story is about RBI's focus on inflation: Why does RBI not learn from history? Why does RBI obsess with currency pegging, even though it has led to such costly distortions of monetary policy? Why is subsidising exporters more important than delivering low and stable inflation? Why does RBI have a greater loyalty to exporters than it has to the local economy? Or, it it that since the RBI is not an independent central bank, was the 'prevent appreciation, risk inflation' loose monetary policy the policy choice of the government? Would RBI have focussed on inflation if it was an independent central bank?

..............................................................................................................................................................

And she is not alone even Ajay Shah, senior fellow at the NIPFP agrees (Video), as he talks about the rot in the system.

Therefore, i think its high time the RBI stops taking cues from Ben Bernanke and Starts taking cues from Jean-Claude Trichet and focuses upon inflation control and that is easier said than done.
