Buceando un rato, me encontré con este tutorial para hacer un display multitouch interactivo. En el fondo, como lograr ese "feeling" del iPhone/Surface, con partes que se puden conseguir de forma relativamente fácil.

En esencia, es una pantalla de acrílico iluminada por LEDs infrarrojos, que son detectados por una cámara enchufada a un PC. El PC procesa la información, y escupe cosas por un retroproyector que ilumina la mesa, cerrando el círculo. Con esto, se pueden lograr cosas como esta:

Ahora, personas bastante creativas en el Music Technology Group de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra en Barcelona, Spain, desarrollaron un instrumento musical que tiene de cabeza a varios, el famosillo Reactable, que Björk ya sacó de paseo en su última gira.

¿Dónde se juntan esta dos cosas? El software que está detrás del funcionamiento del Reactable (no de la generación del sonido, sino del procesamiento de imágenes) es libre, y está a disposición del público en general. O sea, es cosa de armase una de estas pantallas y echar a volar la imaginación.

Eso. Una idea.

Imaginem que se podia "colar" um botão ou outro tipo de controlo (típicos dos equipamentos electrónicos) num monitor de modo a controlar um aplicação no PC. Foi esta a ideia do Lyndsay Williams ao criar o SenseSurface, que com recurso a uma matriz táctil XY e alguns sensores de movimento criou um interface físico que permite controlar virtualmente qualquer tipo de aplicação (por ex. Deejaying) estando somente limitado pela dimensão do monitor.

Die Broschüre gibt zum ersten mal Einblicke in eine Applikation. Die Applikation trägt den Namen UberPong. UberPong ist ein Spiel welches dem Atari Spiel Pong ähnlich ist, allerdings die Vorzüge der Eingabefläche des Touchtisches auffasst.

Die drei Kommunikationsdesign Studenten entschieden sich für ein Spiel, da Sie das Projekt mit einer fertigen Applikation für Touchtische abschließen wollen.

After talking with the HP product manager Daniel for TouchSmart IQ500 in Singapore, and tried first hand on the set. I've discovered that there are 10 things you might not be aware of HP TouchSmart through merely looking at the Ads or some online review, here they are:

1. No Apple-like multi-touch yet, which means no pinch to zoom nor three fingers to go back, but the multi-touch screen is designed to be object-sensitive rather than pressure-sensitive, so you can actually use your fountain pen to write on the screen.
2. The native screen resolution is 1680 * 1050, which means you can view HD1080p with large amount of pleasure due to its clarity because of many pixels are present, but you can't take the advantage of the full resolution of 1080p because it still lacks quite a number of pixels according to that.
3. The keyboard and mouse came with the computer are both wireless. To me they feel just alright comparing with those magnificent ones on my MacBook Pro and my Logitech DeNovo Edge. And the wireless duo doesn't come with a dock + charging station like that of DeNovo Edge - Yes, you need to replace the battery.
4. Don't eat KFC and play with the screen at the same time! the screen is not oil-proof, though it could resist a certain amount of normal grease on your fingertips.
5. The PC comes with a remote control, which is designed for Windows Media Center rather than the HP TouchSmart Center, which is the piece of software HP developed for this TouchSmart PC.
6. TouchSmart Center can't do TV, nor could it easily help you to transfer photos from your memory card to computer just yet. And yeah, you can't delete the photos or videos through the interface either, which might be a good thing for people who like to press the X button all the time.
7. The plainly washed white and bright ambient light makes me want to buy a nice lava lamp and put beside the PC to create some nice ambience  instead
8. They are many pieces of pre-installed software on the PC. Many are quite useful, unlike that of Sony. But for that many games installed, you have only 4 free credits to play, so pay more to play them all.
9. HP software does not use the native resolution, which causes screen to flick  and computer to hang for a period when switching out of the TouchSmart center program using Alt+Tab
10. Vista still hangs now and then, and many applications take a while to start.

And here are the ten things you might know about:

1. HP produces some of the best Ads in the market today, including a nicely composed tune
   
2. The product looks really nice from afar, a giant photo frame sitting there.
3. You can use your stylus to write on the screen and play ink ball with your thumbdrive
4. Playing Solitaire and BeJeweled with fingers are really neat with friends together, a multi-user hot-seat scenario.
5. Coverflow on the machines is nicer than that of Apple, there is more context visible when spreading like a fan instead of vertically stacked.
6. You can watch TV on your desktop without bothering to buy TV cards and install them
7. They have wooping 4G RAM pre-installed to use on the system
8. It runs a 64-bit Windows Vista!
9. Telling Mom how to use the computer has never been easier, MA, just use you hand to press that red button!
10. It has built-in audio and video recording capability, you can do audio notes and voice memo easily.

Check it out for yourself when this coming July, you just find the perfect PC to sit in your living room.

PS: I think Apple's iMac 24 inch's look is cool comparing with this as well, but it lacks the Touch function and many more. And there are many reviews out there, if you will, take a look at them as well. But you really gota touch this HP TouchSmart IQ500 first to experience for yourself.

Just a bit of technical details the media app was built using the touchlib svn and the objects available... it uses the rotatescaleable class... future releases will use the physical class. The source of this project will not be released at the moment, since its too messy rite now. but within the coming weeks i hope to release it. Please take the time to read the Release Notes.txt it will save you some time when adding photos and video content.

Basic Windows Installation instructions:

2. Go into folder \\MediaApp\
3. Right click MediaApp.exe from the dropdown menu Send To -> Desktop (create shortcut)

Adding photos and videos:

Although it was rather fun to play around with it, obviously the controls are still quite limited in this video. Luckily we can now enjoy this phenomenon much smoother on the iPod touch or the iPhone :)

Thanks to nuiman for the helping with the development of ~Lux touchSpectrum a.k.a touchStream which will be released with the ~Lux platform, mainly because it is still unstable and crashes with multiple inputs...

Every manufracturer in the world, if it's a mobile phone manufracturer or a television or music-player -manufracturer, notices theirs a change in how we want to interact with all daily use objects.

Nowadays we have the urge to do "input" using the little tops of our fingers, and if possible we want to do it with more fingers at the same time. That's where apple made good use out of it, by making the iPhone which supports "multiple touch input".

Nokia noticed it too, and is working on a lot of touchscreen phones and even multi-touch screens (On the left is a computer remade of the Nokia XpressMedia Tube 5800). However they didn't understand the need of 2 or more fingers at the same time, so they just made simple gestures with one figure that does the same when using 2 or more fingers.

Anssi Vanjoki the VP of Nokia Markets, stated on the 12th of June 2008;

"We will introduce products from the very low segment to the highest one featuring this type of functionality."

Yet again, Nokia looks further than their concurrent. Everyone loves touch-phones, so why not make cheaper ones, so everyone can enjoy them too? I know many people will appreciate it.

Although it's mostly thinking about getting some cash in the caise, Nokia does think of everyone, and not only of the richer or more fortunate people.

Its been to days since my landing in Delhi. The GIS course has started at the IIT campus. Bhat sir was teaching well, i wanted to continue. But something confusing me still. There's a nokia user research internship going of which i was assigned a web-dev cum photographer position. 

The multitouch project really excites me... I want to add networking capabilities to the same, and make something I have thought of :-) The Image Processing lectures by Bhat sir would have added a lot of knowledge base required to accomplish it. On the contrary, The internship would give me the extra buck required to get me the royal enfield i am looking for . and the confusion comes when I find myself unable to prioritize between the two .

Sul fronte novità il nuovo modello, dal design accattivante con linee più arrotondate, spessore lievemente ridotto e retro in plastica nei colori bianco o nero, integra la veloce tecnologia HSDPA e l' A-GPS, evoluzione del noto sistema satellitare, per il quale non è da escludere la prossima implementazione di un software prodotto ad hoc. Alcune critiche verranno probabilmente mosse dai detrattori dell'iPhone per l'assenza della camera frontale, indispensabile per le videochiamate, ma certamente non fondamentale: iPhone ha una vocazione più smartphone-oriented e anche molti concorrenti blasonati ne sono privi, così come i due megapixel della fotocamera integrata costituiscono una pecca minore in un dispositivo che non è nato per sostituirsi a una vera fotocamera digitale.

Equipaggia il nuovo iPhone 3G il firmware 2.0 che, oltre a migliorare stabilità e performance, aggiunge nuove funzioni quali il pieno supporto a iWork e al pacchetto MS Office, un sistema di ricerca dei contatti, la possibilità di salvare un'immagine ricevuta via e-mail, il parental control, il supporto a più lingue con sistema di riconoscimento della grafia manuale, una nuova calcolatrice scientifica.

iPhone 2.0 strizza anche l'occhio al mondo dell'enterprise grazie al supporto a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync per e-mail, contatti e calendari push, servizi di rete con autenticazione WPA2 Enterprise e 802.1X e a svariati standard web, quali SSL e VPN IPSec Cisco. Probabilmente ulteriori caratteristiche attendono solo di essere verificate e solo una prova diretta ci consentirà un'analisi approfondita del nuovo sistema installabile anche sui "vecchi" iPhone EDGE dai primi di luglio.

La WWDC, quest'anno indubbiamente iPhone-centrica, è andata ben oltre la presentazione del nuovo modello 3G, peraltro avvenuta a fine keynote. Dopo un'iniziale disamina delle peculiarità dell'SDK, il kit di sviluppo per applicazioni per iPhone, in gran parte già illustrate all'evento dello scorso marzo, sono state mostrate demo di alcuni software tra cui giochi che poco hanno da invidiare sul piano grafico al famoso Nintendo DS e risultano arricchiti dall'originale sistema di comando che sfrutta l'accelerometro dell'iPhone: Super Monkey Ball della Sega, Enigmo e Cro-Mag Rally della Pangea Software, Band (simulatore di strumenti musicali con possibilità di registrazione), l'adventure Krull.

Non sono mancate applicazioni più seriose come un programma per la gestione delle offerte su eBay, il famoso portale per le aste online, due software medicali, uno dei quali utile per lo studio dell'anatomia, l'applicazione TypePad per aggiornare al volo il proprio blog con l'invio di post e foto, il software Loopt che mostra su una cartina la posizione dei propri amici e un innovativo programma sviluppato dall'Associated Press che determina il luogo in cui ci si trova e mostra le notizie locali, consentendo anche l'invio delle proprie news e la loro condivisione con amici.

Tutte le applicazioni verranno veicolate dall'AppStore, il negozio virtuale di software per iPhone, e potranno essere gratuite o a pagamento (come nel caso dei giochi a un prezzo di norma fissato a 9.99 dollari). Il download sarà possibile attraverso il carrier telefonico se la dimensione non superiore i 10 mega, altrimenti via Wi-Fi.

Un limite voluto delle applicazioni di terze parti consiste nella chiusura delle stesse se in background, al fine di non appesantire il sistema inficiandone prestazioni e stabilità e non ridurre la durata della batteria. Apple ha escogitato una brillante soluzione che consente, ad applicazione chiusa, di ricevere ugualmente una notifica dalla stessa, mediante il servizio push notification, che sarà reso disponibile agli sviluppatori da settembre: Apple manterrà una connessione continua con l'iPhone e il server di terze parti potrà avvantaggiarsene per veicolare una qualsivoglia notifica testuale o sonora. Un campo di applicazione ideale di tale tecnologia è ad esempio rappresentato dai servizi di messaggistica.

Altra chicca prevista della WWDC il rinnovo del servizio .Mac, ora rinominato MobileMe, definito da Jobs "l'Exchange per il resto di noi". Alla pari del servizio Microsoft per le imprese, adesso anche l'utente comune potrà avvantaggiarsi della comoda tecnologia push per e-mail, rubrica indirizzi e iCal. MobileMe permette inoltre una sincronizzazione immediata di contatti, e-mail, foto, calendari, tra Mac, iPhone e PC ed è compatibile anche con Outlook su Windows. Sarà disponibile a partire da luglio al prezzo di 79 euro per l'abbonamento annuale e gli abbonati attuali a .Mac verranno gratuitamente upgradati al nuovo servizio.

Un accenno marginale è stato riservato alla futura release di Mac OS X, nome in codice Snow Leopard, che sarà rilasciata nel 2009. Pochi i dettagli emersi: il supporto a una nuova tecnologia, Grand Central, per un'ottimizzazione nell'uso dei processori multicore e l'OpenCL (Open Computing Language), che permette a qualsiasi applicazione di sfruttare la potenza di calcolo delle GPU della scheda grafica.

Con l'avveniristico spot dal look iper-tecnologico alla Mission Impossible, cala il sipario sul keynote di Jobs e si comincia a sognare... lo spettacolo è appena cominciato!

Microsoft, il y a quelque temps déjà, avait présenté une table tactile interactive nommé SURFACE permettant par simple contact sur sa surface de visionner des photos, vidéos ou autres mais aussi de communiquer avec les appareils électroniques et permettre le transfert de fichiers par exemple. Récemment, la présentation du Touch Wall, une image projetée sur un mur via une interface issue de Vista appelée Flex permet à l'utilisateur d'agir sur l'environnement via un guidage de trois caméras infrarouges qui scannent la surface du tableau ou mur. Même si cette technologie n'est encore quand phase expérimentale, elle prédit l'avenir de nos futur écran.

Urmatorul video ne arata un computer ruland Ubuntu si folosind doi mousi, fiecare mouse lucrand independent. Puteti incerca acelasi lucru in Windows XP sau Vista si veti vedea ca rezultatul este total diferit de ceea ce obtineti pe Linux.

In cele din urma, un clip in care se demonstreaza utilizarea Compiz Fusion pe un Ubuntu cu ecran senzitiv. Pe scurt, Compiz Fusion este o colectie de programe care ofera efectele care au facut faimoasa interfata Vista. Ah, si sa nu uitam ca Aero (minunata interfata Vista) nu functioneaza pe toate computerele :D

Lo dice un analista di Wall Street:

"Riteniamo che ci sia un 50% di probabilità che un nuovo fattore di forma saranno introdotte, la marcatura di Apple è entrata nel emergenti" MID "o dispositivo mobile internet mercato," American Technology Research analista Shaw Wu ha scritto in una relazione al Giovedi clienti. The main issue with multitouch tables in general is latency. There is a time-lag between the movements made by the user and the response by the software.

The main chain consists of the following:

One of the possible response-killers is Flosc + XML sockets. Flosc translates the X/Y coordinates from TouchLib to XML and offers the result to Flahs via XML Sockets. Flosc, however, offers no intelligence. Every event regarding changes registered in TouchLib is immediately fired to Flash via XML Sockets. More events (more fingers on the table) equals more data packets fired to Flash.

Being dependent of Flash polling for data, XML Sockets are not immediate / zero time latency as well.

When brainstorming about this with Erik van der Pluijm we came up with the following setup:

The C# wrapper is directly connected to TouchLib and the Flash Active X component. Any event in TouchLib is passed to Flash with "no" loss of time.

In the next week or so, this solution will be implemented.

HTC has released two stunning new phones with some very interesting new features. Many of the features look like they were ripped straight from the iPhone but with an accelerated GPU it looks like HTC has built some custom applications for contacts, weather, etc which look very nice.

The competition is heating up in the market. I still think Apple had some innovation with iPhone 2.0 up its sleeve.

Papel y seguir las instrucciones del video (¡ah!, tambien una computadora... para los distraidos)

Touchlib

Touchlib es una libreria para crear superficies interactivas Multi-touch. Funciona a base de seguir manchas de luz infraroja y los interpreta como cuando utilizas el mouse con el boton presionado, cuando sueltas el boton y cuando arrastras. Tambien incluye una aplicacion para configurar y algunos demos para que empieces a usarlo.

OpenCV es indispensable para usar Touchlib ya que lo usa para muchas cosas.

Touchlib se encuentra bajo una licencia BSD de software libre, que permite el uso, distribucion y realizar modificaciones.

Instalación de Touchlib (hecha en Ubuntu)

Actualmente solo hay una manera de hacerlo y es compilando el código fuente, ya que proximamente estará disponible un paquete para la instalación.

0. Antes que nada, usando Synaptic vamos a instalar:

• Subversion (svn)
• OpenCV
• cmake

1. Conseguir el código fuente (hacerlo como root)

# cd /usr/src/
# svn co http://touchlib.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ multitouch

Nota: Espera hasta que termine, ya que cuando entra en multitouch/tests/ hay unos videos y tarda un poquito dependiendo de su conexión a internet.

Al final te mostrará "Revisión obtenida: 395"

2. Entrar en el directorio y compilar

# cd multitouch
# cmake .
# make

Nota: el "." despues de cmake es importante, no lo omitan.

3. Segun yo, eso sería todo, algun error no duden en hacermelo saber.

Nota: tal vez necesites instalar algunos paquetes adicionales y headers de desarrollo para OpenGL y XServer, checa ésta pagina y también mira las notas adicionales.

Realmente trataré de hacer uno de estos, pero ya que tenga la camara y si alguien se aníma a realizarlo, nos comentan que tal les fué o mejor, suban un video.
