Top: Bergamot, Geranium, Hawthorn, Hyacinth
Heart: Mimosa, Rose, Violet, Lily of the Valley
Base: Cedar, Sandalwood, Amber, Heliotrope

Date: 6/24/08 Weather: 75 degrees, sunny, humid

Comments: Starts out pleasantly green and rosy with a hint of violets. I can see why this is considered a benchmark rose fragrance. Within 5 minutes, it becomes rose geranium soap. Gaack!!! It takes about 45 minutes and a healthy walk for it to settle down into a mildly soapy floral with a healthy dose of lily of the valley. The amber and the vanillic scent of heliotrope also begin to make an appearance. About 3 hours in - more amber and woods. Hint of green rose. Gone in 6 hours.

Comments: Starts with strong sage and woods. Becomes progressively more sandalwood, amber. Very smooth. Just this side of too masculine to wear. It becomes smoother and more amber/tonka/vanilla as it wears while maintaining woodiness. Pretty much gone after 6 hours. One of those put on 1 hour before going out scents for me.

House: Bond No. 9
Source: Swap - Taolady
Size: 5mL spray

Scented Salamander Notes:
Top notes of lily of the valley and green stems; middle notes of sweet blue freesia and white birch wood, and base notes of amber and silver-cloud musk accords

Date: 5/23/08 Weather: 54 degrees, sunny

Comments: Started as a light, aquatic floral. Developed a distinct fruity note (apples?) about 15 minutes in. The whole from 15 - 45 minutes was a woody apple with a hint of pale aquatic flowers. At 45 minutes, the fruit burns off and you have woods, a slight incense note, and the aquatic florals. Still a very light fragrance with shockingly large sillage. Gone in 6 hours as a resinous, watery floral.

Size: 1.5 mL spray

OsMoz Notes:
Top: Aldehydes, Bergamot, Neroli, Peach
Heart: Jasmine, Rose, Lily of the Valley, Ylang-ylang
Base: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Tuberose, Vetiver

Date: 5/21/08 Weather: 57 degrees, sunny

Comments: First spray - Lily of the Valley and lotion. In 5 minutes becomes spicier and woodier with a hint of orange oil (turns out to be the peach). I suspect the slight sweetness at this stage is a result of the mish mash of flowers. Within 30 minutes, becomes spicy, woody and vanillic. Definitely picking up a hint of tuberose and the remains of the lily of the valley in this one - which lends the whole a "lotion" feel to it. The vanilla fades about 90 minutes in and the lily of the valley and floral notes strengthens. Interesting..... In 2.5 hours - some vanilla (especially on the sillage, not so much up close), lots of vetiver, woods, lily of the valley, a slight sourness. Over the next 4 hours - vanilla, vetiver, woods and lily of the valley weave in and out. Occasionally, I even pick up a coconutty note from the tuberose. A really interesting scent to analyse. May not find myself wearing it all that often, however. Not a big fan of lily of the valley.

It took me about two weeks to realize that this year nobody has offered me the traditionnal lily of the valley on May the 1st which is supposed to bring you happiness all year round in France. So much time couldn't mean this disturbed me but it got me thinking.

Don't you think it's strange that this little attention is supposed to bring happiness to people who are already lucky enough to get it as the others (me, you ?) would need a little extra help on that matter ?

May 1st, -- le 1er mai-- , is a bank holiday in France --un jour férié--, and traditionally, people offer their family, friends or relatives a sprig of lily of the valley for good luck.
Although the weather was uncertain that day, I went for a walk and took a few photos.

The 1st of May has come, and as every year, I will miss the 'muguet' or Lily of the valley.

The first of May is 'la Fête du travail' in France, the equivalent of 'labour day'. It is a bank holiday that has its origin in workers' revendications for the eight-hour working day. In France, it has become a day where nobody works, except for 'muguet' sellers! In my opinion, it's a very depressing day, there isn't a shop or café opened (maybe it has changed now), there is no public transport, but the worse is that all the streets are deserted. They are deserted, except by the independent sellers of 'muguet'. Indeed, anyone is allowed to sell 'muguet' without any authorisation or without having to pay taxes on that day, so they are the only ones seen working.

If I don't like the 1st of May, I do love Lily of the Valley. It is a symbol of the beginning of spring, but also of friendship and luck. And I must admit, I do miss that French tradition of offering it on the 1st of May. Strangely enough, I've never seen any in Ireland...

As we are talking about muguet, it would be difficult to avoid sharing with you that song that many French pupils had to learn in school, 'Le Temps du Muguet'.

OsMoz Notes:
Top: Bergamot, Violet, Peach, Raspberry
Heart: Rose, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine, Heliotrope
Base: Cedar, Sandal, Musk, Amber

Date: 4/27/08 Weather: 65 degrees, cloudy

Comments: Starts with a green, dry citrusy floral. Quickly becomes a light floral - violets, a hint of rose. Also develops a slight tea note. The whole is quite light and pretty. The tea note goes slightly sour on me (sadly) after about 20 minutes. I'm learning I just can't do tea in perfumes. After an hour or so - the drydown is a pretty vanillic floral with a bit of spice and soap. Overall - a very pretty perfume.

Notes:
Top: lemon, grapefruit, ivy leaf, muguet
Middle: oolong tea absolute, cardamom seed, pink pepper, falbanum, geranuim leaf over roses, lemon verbena
Base: teakwood, sandalwood, castoreum, musk

Date: 3/20/08 Weather: 45 degrees, windy

Comments: Starts with an herbal/citrus note. Quickly evolves to a leather show in a chlorinated swimming pool. Then back to the sharp herbal/citrus/aquatic thing. In 20 minutes - goes soapy and a bit sour. Took a shower 2 minutes in (stayed pretty soapy and sour the whole time). Can faintly smell greens and musk after scrubbing. There is something in Mr. Storer's base that goes horribly horribly wrong on me in 4 of the 5 scents. Only Yvette and Monk are remotely wearable on me. Many folks are able to wear his scents quite successfully. I'm envious.

Comments: Hairspray. After 5 minutes, settles into a rose/violet thing. A bit of powder. A vanilla note starts to weave through it 30 minutes in. After the initial nasal cleansing, this is a nice enough floral. Very linear. 6 hours later, still smell the rose/violet thing with the hint of vanilla on my wrists.
Date: 11/10/07 Weather: 35 degrees and clear

Comments: Again, that chemical topnote. Then becomes anise (tarragon). Vanilla and chocolate make an appearance but the tarragon strengthens. A rubbery note also makes an appearance, then the plasticine note. My favorite of the 3 women's scents, which isn't saying much since I HATED Stephanie and Genvieve. Much stronger sillage on this one.

Date: 12/4/07 Weather: 45 degrees, evening

Comments: Wore this fresh after a shower. Much nicer with the anise topnote - then becomes an anise/vanilla/chocolate scent. Much nicer on clean skin. Still very strong sillage.

Date: 10/26/07 Weather: 50 degrees and rainy

Comments: Starts very resinous and balsamic. Then becomes this pretty, spicy rose. Goes woody towards the base. Hint of citrus, but not out there or annoying. Fave so far. Love the base of frankincense, amber and woods. Lasts about 4 hours. This strikes me as a fall scent. Really like the evolution of it.

Perfume: Casmir
House: Chopard
Source: The Cosmetic Center (now closed. Purchased 2000)
Size: 3.2 oz EdT

Basenotes notes:
Top: Mango, Coconut, Peach, Bergamot
Heart: Jasmine, Geranium, Muguet
Base: Amber, Musk, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Patchouli

Date: 9/12/07 Weather: 70 degrees

Comments: I purchased this off of a magazine scent strip a very long time ago. This is an old bottle, so I don't pick up the mango, peach or any of the other fruits. Also don't pick up the coconut. This starts on me with a vanilla/jasmine/wood scent. Then it develops a strange rotting mango funk (the closest thing to a fruit this thing picks up) for 5 minutes. Finally settles into a sandalwood / vanilla / patchouli blend. This is one of those scents that has been in rotation in my wardrobe for many years - but I always had to be in a certain mood to wear it. Wear it more frequently in winter.

Date: 3/7/08 Weather: 50 degrees, rainy, evening

Comments: Picking up more fruit on this wearing. Still doesn't register as mango. Also has an intense spiciness - almost like black pepper. This spicy, ambery scent with a hint of fruit picks up this gorgeous vanilla about 15 minutes in. The drydown is a pretty vanilla/amber/spices (esp black pepper for some reason) and sandalwood. Though some fruit appears at the top and the vanilla strengthens on the dry-down, this scent is registering linearly this time. Finding this scent stunning. One of those scents that when it works for me - it really really works.
