CTV / Much Interactive is looking for a Web Developer:

Building robust, extensible and extremely efficient C# .Net back-end Internet applications for Canada’s #1 youth oriented web platform

Building and extending database elements (MS SQL 2000 and 2005)

Maintaining and replacing legacy ASP code (VBScript)

Maintaining and extending custom C# CMS applications

Helping develop, update and maintain scripts that manage and process XML feed data

Developing tools that integrate seamlessly and efficiently with existing HTML documents, .Net controls, and AJAX and Flash applicants

The Good
Much is visible, funky, and lots of people watch it and interact with the website. It could be fun to work on.

It's a popular site, so you may have interesting challenges with respect to scale.

There is some forward-looking elements deep in the description: "social web, preferably with experience with web services, facebook apps and utilizing open source initiatives whenever possible such as Wordpress, Google Maps, etc."

The location's great. Easy access to subway, lots of good stores and restaurants around, central.

The Bad
Maintaining and porting legacy ASP VBScript applications sounds pretty unappealing.

It doesn't seem to be a particularly senior role, although if you're in a senior role and you'd like to take this on, you might be able to argue them up. Compensation commensurate with experience implies that, but I find that phrase is often meant to be applied downward. ;)

The usual lack of information about compensation, process, team. There's not much about the rol, and the work description is mostly technology-centric rather than specific software you'll be working on.

YMMV
Not everyone's big on .NET. I mean, you could say the same for just about any technology, but Microsoft technologies in particular seem to rub some people the wrong way, if for no other reason than the connection to Microsoft.

In Summary
If you'd love to work for Much, and you've got ASP and ASP.NET experience and aren't looking for an especially senior role (or are willing to fight for it), well, this could be your ticket.

Music videos seem to be getting worse by the day. I’m always think of the the early to mid 90s

Music videos seem to be getting worse by the day. I'm always think of the the early to mid 90s as the golden age of the medium, back when directors like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Jonathan Glazer would set new bars for visual mastery with every clip they helmed. But as those directors have moved on to feature films (as they rightly should), there's now a void. Tenuous times at the big labels that funded most of the ground-breaking video work of the period has created a more calculated approach - soundstage with some props, dancing, skimpy clothes and for God sakes, don't let people forget who's the star. Back in the day, even the most mainstream pop stars like Madonna bothered to create eye-popping videos that all but guaranteed regular play on Much Music and MTV. Now she turns out boring, tacky-ass pap like "4 Minutes" (don't even get me started on the actual song). A good video used to be able to propel even the worst song to the top of the charts. But now that music videos are a bit of a non-factor what with the music channels all but abandoning their original mandates I sometimes wonder, why even bother. Then Radiohead drop a clip like "House of Cards," and you remember why you used to spend hours in front of the TV, remote in hand, ready to tape your favourite video so you could watch it over and over again, memorizing every frame, every look the singer gave the camera. Thnks 4 the mmrys guys.

You know I’m only watching this stupid program for you blog, don’t you? I’m sorry

You know I'm only watching this stupid program for you blog, don't you? I'm sorry but the MMVa's aren't my cup of tea. That's why I am making brownie cupcakes with cherry topping and whip cream while I watch the show. *comforts self with... comfort food*.

Okay so the MMVa's started with a performance by Flo Rida.. and what can I say. He should have pulled an Ashlee Simpson. He sounded like crap. Not that I like his song anyways. I went to a twelve year old's birthday party a couple weeks ago, (yes I was invited), and THEY ALL KNEW THE WORDS to his stupid song. I think they should start puting ratings on music.. so they don't play horrible skanky tracks at bowling alleys. I'm just saying 90% of the population at NEB's Funworld is like 13 and under. But one thing that did comfort me about his performance; all of those screaming fan girls of his... were soaked like RATS...

then uhh Simple plan performed. bleh. and then there was an appearance from your boyfriend's wet dream, oops I mean, Girlicious.

And Rihanna won the award for International Star or whatever.

And Jesse McCartney presented Hedley's director with an award.... And he's wearing a pink fanny pack in his bare feet. Makes sense. He is IN hedley.

Finger Elleven is up on stage now... it got quiet. Probably because the only people that stayed through that rain storm were Flo Rida's pre-teen team.

illScarlet is performing their one single on a roof. That's swell. I like the guitarists dreads. His stripey shirt kinda sucks though. They're not performing very good tonight, though. I guess accoustics in such an altitude aren't so good? (rain just a little bit right now, please?) I've seen them live though.. so I can actually say they've done better.

Aww. much music even has fireworks. Probably to go with their computer towing masked cowboy, Phreak.. who's soon to show up eventually.

His big 'hack' will probably be coming up near halftime.

oh yeah.. Perez has lost some weight... and hired a stylist. He announced the nominees for most watched video. Guess who won--Rihanna. At least she was wearing shoes.

And now Sean Kingston wants everyone to put their hands in the air, but without his electronic voice smoothing vocal box he's hardly convincing.

and winner for muchvibe best Rap video- Belly? feat. some other guy.

Oh and because of their little MMVA win 10K ad, I went to the website and it's not even loading. But my cherry brownies are awesome :).

I don't understand why the Vj's have to be there for like every single moment of the show. ( another crappy performance is going on right now btw. Just what I was hoping for too, Akon) I mean like they introduce a band.. and then talk to them for thirty seconds.. and they introduce a video clip of nominees and then the artist is gone. Seems like a waste o' time to me.

I see more lightening. That would make for a much more interesting MMVa's. I don't even think the stage is covered. HAHA! It's now pouring. everyone has clear umbrellas. Now all I'd like to see are some high-heeled tumbles. Or like-- the Girlicious High-heeled tumble-train.

Oh Finally! An Award!

MuchLoud- Best Rock Video- Hedley (one thing I can say.. They're not carrying stupid umbrellas. Probablybecause they're rockstars).

Alright I am now on the win 10k page (finally) doing predictions for winners. I pretty much just select anyone that worked with Timbaland this year. Hopefully that logic wins me 10K.

OOo! A spice girl!.. oh..it's just one of them. nevermind, don't get excited. (p.s- I saw them when they came to town :).

Now the Jabawokees? Apparantly they won some reality tv show you didn't watch. They're wearing white masks though so that makes them cool. But they're dancing to Kanye West.. so that makes them uncool.

Hedley's performing now... Apparantly Much expects more ass than last time. The lead singer is still not wearing shoes.. and is wearing a headband that blatantly suggests the 80's. Not to mention he's still wearing his rainbow Brite fanny pack. lolz my gawd. I love is cross tattoo and front wings as well. Carpe Diem, Hedley!

People's Choice Favourite Canadian Artist- (I can't remember what I predicted. I'll check later) Avril Lavigne. Sweet. I get points on the mmva 10k for that. Aww, she's not there. Shame on her, she's actually Canadian. But she says she's in Europe 'Touring'. by which she means 'on crack'.

ooo Mike Myers is there! Yayyy! Finally someone Canadian that is sweet! .. and he doesn't even sing.... hmm. what does that say for us...?

Girlicious is performing now.. and by performing I mean dancing to their cd in sparkly spankies. I love how muchmusic stationed a 'butt cam' for this performance. They just panned in on a male audience member who was singing all the words. See I told you they were your boyfriends wet dream.. or at least.. their .. ear candy? Oh look they even have a little breakdown with hairflipping and pelvic thrusting..like I wasn't expecting that.

Favourite Canadian Group- Simple plan... yay more 10k points!

I love how they seperate each hills star to come out one by one. I guess they didn't get enough announcers. Every five minutes I shout out 'Who's that?". *cough*

And RIhanna is performing some new song with a stupid hat on. and a stupid shirt. She looks like she walked out of much dance '94. I know you bought that cd. you know the song '1 . 2. 3. train with me, Uh oh... oh oh, uh-oh.' Yep. That's what Rihanna looks like tonight. to a T. Oh well, she sounded good. But that's compared to the horrible performances I've had to sit through already tonight.

Favourite International Video- Fall Out Boy. The're not there, ofcourse. But they're filming it in a sunny park.. looks like their too busy.

*yawn*. I have to get up at 5a.m tomorrow for work. I should be in bed. Thanks mmvas. Thanks.

Best Video- Hedley.

New Kids on The Block are performing now... and I don't.. know what to say. They uhh.. don't have that pre-pubescent charm anymore.. or VOICE for that matter. I don't know.. 'Step by Step' should have some boyish charm to it.. not some midlife crisis.... They sound really bad, but their dance moves haven't changed.

I just saw an ad for 'Bedouin Sounclash and Friends : Live at 11p.m' .. Picture this: bedouin soundclash and two friends in the background cheering. 'Whoooh! They paid us to do this!!!'

Speaking of corny. New kids on the block are still performing.. and the credits popped up.. and then went away.. *cough*. I bet uhhh... phreak did it. and now the show's over and there are error screens. and they're replaying flo rida's performance. Wonderful. I wanted to see this again.

okay well I'm going to sign off. p.s- my brownies were amazing

and p.p.s- I got 10000 points in the mmva game. the person in the top had 38000 poits. keep in mind I cam in to the game at 10:20. So technically I won. huzzah.

continued from part 4:

As the 2008 MMVAs are coming closer tomorrow, this means a final countdown to coincide what the MMVAs look like back in the day. First off, we'll start in 2004 when the MMVAs was really the best back then. Alexisonfire arrived in an Ambulance (at first officials there though there was a "real" emergency, but actually it's an grand entrance by the band). Billy Talent was gaining momentum back them with their hits "Try Honesty", "River Below" and "Cut the Curtains". Fefe Dobson made her debut too. So does MuchMusic VJ (and my personal favourite) Mr. Devon Soltendieck . He was very rad back then unlike today's standards. Along with Sarah Taylor, the newly minted newcomer to MuchMusic. This also marked the last time that Amanda Walsh was ever a VJ down at MuchMusic. There was one time that the Beastie Boys filmed a music video down at the MMVAs, I couldn't remember which one......To view the highlight of that year, please go here.

I'm going to summarize the last 3 years that the MMVA took shape.

2005 was about adrenaline. Billy Talent (once again) arrived in a vintage world war army tank! Rick Campanelli (one of the recognized and long-running VJs of MuchMusic) made his last appearance before moving on to host Entertainment Tonight Canada (or ET Canada). The Killers close a climatic show with a choir. We must not forget The Black Eyed Peas, k-os, Ashlee Simpson and most importantly, the comeback of the Backstreet Boys (while they didn't perform, they did a great show as presenters). As for the Black Eyed Peas, there was an instance when an unknown person suddenly step on the stage before he was dragged down by security. What a silly act that way. I'm not sure if he was arrested or not, but by all means he was subsequently booted off.

2006 marked when Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Hedley and many other performers who performed that day brought an awesome show. As for Fall Out Boy, well they love to "Dance Dance". There were two dancers on stage.

And finally, 2007. The MMVAs bought an action packed show filled with dirty words and stuff. The Used performed their hit song "The Bird and the Worm" and there are some people chanting to the swear word, that MuchMusic has to filter these parts completely and it sounded like a "reed" wave vibrating into a rough form! Maroon 5 performed an awesome show and at the Red Carpet arrivals, one of my favourite bands, Marianas Trench walked with a foot-long of sub! That really gave me the giggles. Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 was on hand. How appropriate that Deryck Whibley said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome - Ms. Whibley!" Anyways, that was an awesome show to remember. By the way I finished watching the show, I get sleepless nights about wishing that I want to meet the guys someday. I still suffer those withdrawal symptoms though...lol

Anyways, this concludes the countdown to the MMVAs. Don't forget that this Sunday marks the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards. The whole show starts at 9:00p.m. Eastern Time on MuchMusic.

The MMVA's; Who to Vote For, How to get There.. and If You'll Really Be Missing Anything if you Don't Go...

So Muchmusic has announced their… Mmva stuff. If you click here, you can vote for the most

So Muchmusic has announced their... Mmva stuff. If you click here, you can vote for the most ... . . . notable Canadian stars. Here are the categories you can vote for....

CANADIAN ARTIST: You get to choose from Avril Lavigne, Belly (i've never heard of him before.. he sounds like he's got some deep, meaningful lyrics, yo), Feist, City and Colour (...why isn't this under the band category? Oh right- no screaming. Gotcha), Nelly Fertado (the new, hip-forgotten-my-roots-Fertado).

CANADIAN GROUP: Hedley, Simple Plan, Bily talent, Finger Eleven, illscarlet. (This category must have been picked my a twelve year-old girl. Sorry, twelve year old CANADIAN girl.) *cough*

INTERNATIONAL (Americano): fall Out Boy, Florida (sorry, FLo Rida), Kanye West, Rihanna, Timbaland and One Republic.

My predictions are Nelly Fertado is probably going to win the first one, but Feist should win.. because she did an ipod commercial. For Canadian group,Finger eleven should probably win, although they only had two good songs on their new album. If they don't win, illscarlet is probably going to get it beause they've toured the crap out of Canada this year. (I.e- I don't even like them and I've seen them 3 times.. all unintentionally). And international will probably be Rihanna... because she's the onlyperson who's songs I'd be able to recognize if it came on the radio.

yey.

Oh what else? You want to go? okay.. So here's what you do. bring canned spaghetti O's to MuchMusic on june 7th at 8 am. and line up. you must be at least 14 and provide photo i.d. If you don't want to wait in line, you can also listen to a few radio stations that will be givin tixx away, like z103.5. Find more info. about getting there, here.

And if you're interested in seeing the performances whether on tv or shivering in the middle of a street, these are the announced. Florida, Girlicious (what a horrible name), Hedley, illScarlet, jabbawockeesdsdseszz, Kardinal ft. Akon, Rihanna, Sean kingston, and Simple Plan. wow.. that's a pretty.. . . solid... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .....

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a slight crush on Ricky Martin back when I was about 13 years old. I had numerous spontaneous shake-your-bon-bon dance breaks in my living room every time "Livin' La Vida Loca" came on Much Music. But since then Ricky Martin hasn't been heard from very much.

It's apparent that he's been busy with his foundation The Ricky Martin Foundation, which focuses on "advocating for the well being of children around the globe in critical areas such as social justice, education, and health."

Most recently, Martin has been fighting child trafficking and sexual exploitation problems in Cambodia with hopes to raise awareness of the issue. Click here for more details or check out www.therickymartinfoundation.org. This is another great example of a celebrity using fame for the good of others.

Hello ?!
