"John McCain was born on August 29th, 1936. If elected, he would be the oldest person inaugurated to a first-term as President."

Funny link, this guy puts things in perspective.

Some of my favorite/standout things that are younger than the great war hero:

The United States Zip Code system.

The Area Code System.

Penicillin.

LP Records.

How can you be older than Nylon and Velcro, then want to run a country during the computer age? He's gotta find a rocking chair and fall back.

Kraft Mac N Cheese. Created in 1937!!! No way! The chocolate chip cookie and Krispy Kreme were created in 1937 too!! wow.

Should John McCain be excluded from the presidential race based on his age? Hell no, but are you telling me that he's the only person in the Republican party qualified to run? That's the best they could do? An old geezer who's older than ballpoint pens and who voted against "King Day" twice?

Come on now, at least get a realistic figurehead instead of Mr Potato Head.

So this post is getting me in trouble with the Men’s Rights Activists at an ‘antimisand

So this post is getting me in trouble with the Men's Rights Activists at an 'antimisandry' forum...

Maybe it's because I wrote it and it made me laugh, but I really don't think it's misandry. I don't hate men...I hate arseholes...and even then do I advocate violence? NO! What I'm saying is *intelligent design* would seem a whole lot more intelligent to me if penises had been designed to be attached by velcro. C'mon...you KNOW you wanna laugh you angry little dudes!

So yeah, I spent the day wondering about whether or not what I was advocating was violence and mutilation...and well, I don't really think so, no...ok...I do have a tendancy to joke about utilising cartoon style violence on people like Miranda Devine or Piers Ackerman (I mean for real, picture smacking her in the face with a shovel, it goes BOING!!!! and her face is imprinted in the shovel...but she's unharmed!). But those *are* jokes, I would never REALLY hit anyone with hands or with anything, and I would never think it was funny if it happened...I'm definately anti mutilation and violence.

But with the velcroscenario...I dunno...it's like stealing the nose of a Mr Potato head figurine...harmless confiscation (and helpful when penises are so often used as weapons)...a playful fantastical daydream whereby I could roam the streets with safety knowing I could dole out a painless and kinda funny consequence next time some arsehole thought it'd be funny to scare me...

And I still think that equating it with either a hatred of men, or the sadistic disembodying and often sexual violences that are inflicted on bodies (so much more frequently on women's bodies) so often is a bit like the hysteria over Harry Potter making kids want to use magic wands...IT'S NOT REAL!!!!

Also...is there not something to the imaginary violence of the victim fighting back? Like the vicarious joy of watching Buffy wail on some dude bearing down on her with evil intent, I just meant for the confiscation of the penis (without pain I might add) to be a levelling of the playing field in the area of the imaginary.

I mean, I'm down with the fact that "it's only a joke" doesn't excuse stuff that's still sick, is still linked to real violences, is still rooted in hatred/real disrespect...but c'mon! Tongue. In. Cheek...

Again, I'm not doing too well at being terribly serious about the subject...sigh.

Deranged feminist I'll wear with pride (especially coming as it does from deranged and tantruming menfolk) but misandrist...I think not.

The car is completely pack....we even had to reconsider a few items. The Kia just isn't as big as we thought. We'll be heading up the 101 and probably spending our first night in Santa Cruz...where there is currently a big fire, but I'm thinking we'll be fine on the coast with the nice coastal breeze.

Priceless. Barack is so happy to be hanging with Mr. Potato Head and that makes me happy.

I'm listing this BittyPix on Etsy tommorrow. After I finish this post my right hand will be finished for the day.

I was very active today. No, not like that. I was making Bittys.

I did another Robyn Hitchcock for my friend. I want to show you the picture of it here because I found that an interesting thing happens when you cook the Shrinky Dink just a little too long. The Ruff and Ready Shrinky becomes transparent and looks like glass.

This would be very good for jewelry. I'll have to try a pair of earrings cooked to crystal perfection. You can't really see the effect too clearly because of the white paper frame here but it looks just like a window pane.

I was all up in the cutting and drawing and such today.

I made two star stamps for printing.

I want to use them to put tiny stars on myself cuz I love stars. If I put stars on my body everyone will think I'm a Kat Von D groupie, which I am but I wanted star tattoo before I even heard of Miami Ink and then became enslaved to watching the brilliant girls and guy on LA Ink.

I draw tattoos onto my hand and wrists with permanent markers because with my love of variety I have never been able to come up with something I'd enjoy forever. Permanent markers are not permanent on skin by the way, but they do last a day or two.

These are the two star stamps I made today all on one piece of paper.

I can use the new stamps to make cool borders on things.

Or as, I said I can dot myself with them when I get in the mood.

I am going to try stamping fabric with my silkscreen paint someday.

These are stamps of a Mayan head I made last week. I may need to carve a little more white onto the face for contrast.

But now that I've mentioned Kat Von D, I'm going to have to think about making a BittyPix of her.

It will happen.

I think she is beautiful and I love the way she squeals with delight. Does that make me gay?

My boyfriend, Frank and I decided along time ago that we were in-betweenies. On that scale that runs from supermasculine to superfeminine we feel we are about in the middle, kinda girl, kinda boy in just the right degree that together we really click.

That's him on my devotional Love candle. Beside the candle is a really cute red Toadhead he made me.

You can see more of his work at his etsy shop Tiddinips.

Here is my current fave. Cute lil dragon head.

I saw this little guy in the store last night and got SO excited! Indiana Jones Mr. Potato Head! (Still haven't seen the movie, but look forward to it.) Keep reading to see pics of Spud Indy in action...

-

I might actually have to get him, for three reasons:

1. My three-year-old recently announced that Indiana Jones was "cool",

2. We actually use Mr. Potato Head in therapy sessions!, -and-

3. HE ROCKS!!! Just look at that "I'm so bad" smirk on his little potato face...

Mr. Potato (or is it Mr. Head?) has had a lot of different identities over the years... Opti-Mash Prime (BIG eye roll), Spidey Spud (creepy, not a big fan), Darth Tater (cool!), Artoo-Potatoo (and LOTS more Star Wars spuds), but this one is my FAVORITE!

I think this qualifies as another "Reese's Peanut Butter Cup" moment (where 2 great things come together to form something EVEN GREATER).

My preschooler had a friend over today. Before he arrived to play, we reviewed all of the play date

My preschooler had a friend over today. Before he arrived to play, we reviewed all of the play date rules that we have in this house. (The rules also apply to birthday parties):

-No hitting

-No kicking

-No pushing

-No screaming like a little girl. ( I honestly think my husband much prefers our son to hit other kids than to hear the high pitched screech he often makes when playing with friends)

-No tattling

(For other information on play dates, check out this book by Christie S Mellor, Three Martini Playdates)

For the most part, #1 son has no problem following the list, with the exception of no tattling. Four year olds LOVE to tattle on one another, then go back to playing. If my friends or coworkers tattled on me regularly and then expected life to go on as usual, they would be sorely mistaken and be in a line for a solid crotch punch (which I know violates other rules in our above list) But four year olds get a perverse pleasure in telling on one another, and if it gets their little friend in trouble (the Holy Grail is getting the friend in a time out), it's even better.

When my girlfriend left with her little boy today we remarked that today was the most successful play date so far, only 2 issues of tattling, one by each boy. What caused today's infractions? The non-sharing of a Wolverine costume and the use of a Mr. Potato Head body part as a weapon.

Unfortunately we also have to deal with this same sort of behavior from our president.

Today Bush spoke from the rose garden about global warming and the impending climate change. As expected, he blabbed his way through his speech, and, just like a five year old, pointed the finger at other high-emission-producing countries saying "if we have to change, then they (China) do too." Real freaking mature.

Let me just say that I should've known better than to turn my head 20 degrees to the t.v. in the gym to hear what Mr. Potato Head had to say. Nothing of what he said was surprising, however aggravating still.

Bush has also been repeatedly rejecting proposed legislation for industry emission cuts. One such proposed bill expected to be taken up by the Senate in June calls for a 19 percent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2025 and about a 70 percent reduction by mid-century from power plants, transportation and industrial sources. Apparently "Mikey doesn't like it."

Basically it boils down to the fact that Bush is not willing to threaten any relationships he currently has by passing more drastic bills. And what's good for W is good for the country, and for that matter the world, right?

StudiosCentral has pictures of souvenir popcorn buckets themed to the upcoming Toy Story Mania atraction, and apparently destined for distribution at all of the Disney Parks. Waaah, I can hardly wait! I am a total sucker for Toy Story swag. Plus, as an avid reader of icanhascheezburger, I have a certain attachment to bukkits.

Plus, The Disney Blog has some cool YouTube videos of Mr Potato Head, currently entertaining Guests at Disney's California Adventure. I started to watch one of them . . . and then resisted the urge. I am trying trying trying to stay reasonably spoiler-free!

First Toy announced for Indiana Jones and the Golden wheelchair . . . (or whatever they're calling it)

Mr. Potato Head has now been Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, R2D2, C3P0, Spiderman and stripped of all dignity.

Furthermore - Potatos are not from Indiana and carb avoiders not withstanding it is very rare to find someone with an actual "jones" for them!

Is there no actual "Indiana" themed sort of thing that could be a better match?

Hoosiers, Indianapolis 500, David Letterman, hmm.

I guess not.

It's no secret that I'm addicted to gReader because I love to read and stay up-to-date on what's going on in the world and my friends' lives. I regularly "share" items through gReader, but those shared items are sort of random, and if you don't know me, they may not make sense. For this reason, I'm introducing a new feature on my blog: For-the-Love-of-Links Fridays. I'll review the items I shared from the week, and pick a handful to explain and share with you all. When I started running and committed to some longer distances, I discovered the Goofy Challenge (runners run both the half-marathon and full marathon) as part of the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and ever since I've wanted to tackle the challenge. The WDWMW was last weekend, and many of the bloggers in the Running Blog Family were in Orlando for the fun. Check out these reports from the runaudreyrun, cdnrunnergal, and eatdrinkrunwoman blogs.

Blogging Tips
I'm relatively knew to the blogosphere, and I'm overly competitive with myself about how many people subscribe and read A Fool of Myself, so blogging tips that come across gReader are especially valuable to me. For those who are new to blogging and need a blogging primer, you'll find this post over at TeamCrossWorld helpful. And if you're a blogging veteran and want to take your blog to the next level, this post over at NorthxEast lists 31 Ways to Become a Better Blogger.

Punctuation News
I'm a writer by trade and a lover of grammar, mechanics, and style, so the news that Panic at the Disco dropped the exclamation mark in their name fascinated me this week. This article from MTV News will fill you in on the latest punctuation drama.

Juno Movie Review
The hubby and I watched Juno last weekend with a bunch of teenagers at our local theater. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? Need more convincing than my expert advice? Just reading Relevant Magazine's coverage of the movie makes me want to watch it again (not that I need much encouragement).

Someone Else Who Loves Mr. P as Much as I Do
My office is full of Mr. Potato Head paraphernalia, so when I read about this octopus who won't let his spud go, I totally understood how he felt.
