Today I finally met some people here who are as concerned about the things going on in our world as I am.  One great guy, owns an awesome little store here called Music Mind and Matter, he has a show too, and he will be on just after us.  I met some interesting characters in the store, people who believe in aliens, people who don't believe in paying taxes or having drivers licenses.  All in all it really led to an interesting morning.

Although by the end of it, I didn't know whether I should be expecting a huge earthquake in LA on October 9th this year, a comet in 2012, building an underground house with a pyramid on top of it, that the earth is hollow with tunnels leading in spokes from one end of it to the other, or should I be supporting some new independent American government which is trying to get ready so they can be the government if the SHTF and the current one gets wiped out!!!!!!!!

Well you know, the great thing about the good old USA as opposed to a few other countries is, that people can stand around and talk about these types of things without fear of being locked up (well in some cases), or having bits of them chopped off.  Although according to the talk this morning that's where we are all heading.  I headed to the store and got a bottle of wine, came home and had a homeopathic anti stress/anxiety pill, and thought what I can do just to survive every day.

La souveraineté alimentaire.

Le débat sur la crise alimentaire a permis de relancer certains concepts géopolitiques qui viennent contrarier les plans des firmes internationales et mettent les paysans de nouveaux au centre de la problématique de l’alimentation mondiale.

Des chercheurs, comme Kathleen Mc Afee , professeur de relations internationales à l’Université d’Etat de San Francisco, viennent appuyer les petits paysans du Sud pour demander aux Etats-Unis l’arrêt de l’exportation massive de maїs subventionné car cela entraîne une chute des cours dans les pays pauvres et provoque un exode rural sapant les fondations des communautés agricoles.

Dans quatre études de Mc Afee réalisées pour le North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), la chercheuse démontre comment la nation berceau du maїs est devenue, en quelques années, le second importateur de maїs américain, et comment cela a accéléré l’exode rural des fermiers, pour plus de la moitié des Indiens, qui terminent sur les routes de l’immigration ou des bidonvilles de Mexico. Elle prend aussi le temps de la réflexion pour examiner l’impact socioculturel de la contamination par les semences transgéniques américaines des milliers de variétés de maїs « criollo » (local), de toutes les couleurs et adaptées à tous les microclimats du Mexique.

Cette opposition franche des mexicains s’explique non seulement pour une question de protection de la biodiversité de la flore mexicaine, mais s’inscrit aussi dans une logique culturelle de protection de l’alimentation des populations mexicaines dont le maїs est l’aliment principal. L’introduction du maїs transgénique est donc aussi largement vue là-bas comme une main mise des firmes biotech sur l’ « aliment roi » de l’ancien royaume maya, il n’est donc pas surprenant de voir les leaders paysans maniés si aisément des concepts diplomatiques comme la « souveraineté alimentaire », ou pour ainsi le droit des peuples à disposer librement de leur nourriture, car le débat tourne à la défense nationale contre l’invasion OGM.

En 1998, le gouvernement mexicain avait banni la culture de maїs génétiquement modifié, puis a officiellement reconduit le moratoire en 2004 en introduisant des clauses sur les essais expérimentaux - mais aucun permis de test n’a jamais été délivré. Cependant, ce printemps, certains fermiers ont ouvertement déclaré avoir acheté des semences transgéniques aux Etats-Unis et les avoir illégalement planté dans l’Etat de Chihuahua dans le Nord du pays.

En Octobre dernier, Armando Villareal, un leader paysan de Chihuahua, a été abattu à la sortie d’une réunion d’agriculteurs à Nuevo Casas Grandes. Villareal dénonçait depuis un temps les plantations illégales de maїs transgéniques dans les municipalités à majorité Mennonite de Cuauhtemoc et de Naniquipa.

Les communautés Mennonite de Chihuahua sont venues du Canada dans les années 20, après une dispute contre l’Etat Canadien sur l’éducation, et l’Etat mexicain, sous la présidence de Alvaro Obregon, les a accueilli en leur offrant des terres. Aujourd’hui les Mennonites cultivent avec succès plus de 60 000 hectares dans le nord-est du pays mais ils ne sont pas intégrés à la population mexicaine et des questions d’irrigations, dans une région semi désertique, continuent de nourrir des tensions entre les deux communautés.

Ironiquement, Villareal ne s’opposait pas à la culture de maїs génétiquement modifié au Chihuahua mais il dénonçait les importations illégales de semences transgéniques depuis l’Etat du Kansas. Neuf mois après son assassinat, l’affaire n’a toujours pas été résolue et ses meurtriers courent toujours dans la nature.

Monsanto a refusé de commenter l’exportation et l’introduction illégale de son maїs Bt et Roundup Ready sur les terres de Chihuahua, cependant ce fait est loin d’être anecdotique puisque dans de nombreux pays l’introduction des OGM s’est faite de manière clandestine comme au Brésil ou au Paraguay. La répétition des mêmes méthodes d’introduction illégale des OGM, contre la volonté souveraine des Etats et des peuples, semble relever beaucoup plus d’une stratégie commerciale agressive que d’une simple coïncidence. Ces entreprises multinationales méprisent les représentants publics et les citoyens des Etats, ils ne s’attardent pas sur des notions comme la liberté ou le libre choix de son alimentation, pas plus qu’ils ne s’intéressent aux questions de santé publique. Leurs méthodes sont simples, lorsque les représentants de l’Etat ne peuvent être convaincus par aucun moyen, ils contournent l’Etat via des intermédiaires locaux et passent dans la clandestinité au mépris de tous les règlements internationaux.

Une de leur méthode favorite consiste aussi à établir une association vitrine, une sorte de cheval de Troie local, qui leur servira de devanture pour la plupart de leur mission de propagande mais aussi de fusible juridique pour les manœuvres les plus douteuses. Au Mexique cette association s’appelle Agrobio, une association mexicaine fondée par Monsanto, Bayer et Dow Chemicals, dont le Président est un certain José Luis Solleiro, un chercheur de l’Université National de Mexico. D’après M. Solleiro « les critiques contre le maїs transgénique maintiennent le Mexique à la traîne. » Il ajoute que le Gouvernement est en train de considérer la possibilité d’autoriser la culture du maїs GM dans le Nord du Mexique, où selon lui « il n’y a pas de maїs natif et peu d’opposition à la nouvelle technologie transgénique » (ou alors peu de candidat au martyr...). Solleiro n’est d’ailleurs pas embarrassé lorsqu’il s’agit de commenter les cultures illégales des Mennonites dans le Nord du Mexique « cela fait déjà quatre ans et rien n’est arrivé » puis il ajoute « je pense que nous méritons de pouvoir faire des expériences sérieuses sur les effets du maїs transgénique. »

Bien entendu l’autorisation d’expérimentation en champs ouverts constitue l’une des dernières étapes avant le lancement à grande échelle de la nouvelle plante génétiquement modifiée. Ces essais permettent de rechercher une meilleure adaptation de la plante à son environnement local, c’est-à-dire que les firmes avant de lancer une nouvelle semence prennent toujours soin de croiser des variétés locales avec leur plante GM afin d’obtenir une plante résistante aux conditions climatiques du pays ciblé, par exemple le Coton Bt de Monsanto des Etats-Unis n’est pas le même que celui cultivé au Burkina Faso ou en Inde. Malheureusement ces essais en plein champ, ainsi que l’adaptation de la cassette génétique sur des plantes locales, sont souvent les premiers déclencheurs de la contamination des plantes natives.

En 2001 déjà, deux chercheurs de l’Université de Berkeley en Californie, avaient rapporté que de l’ADN modifié, probablement venant de maїs GM étasunien, avait été découvert dans le génome de variétés locales dans les montagnes de Oaxaca, le berceau mondial du maїs.

En 2004, en pleine controverse sur la contamination des réserves mexicaines, la Commission pour la Coopération Environnementale de la NAFTA enfonce le clou en publiant un rapport recommandant de suspendre l’exportation vers Mexique de graines de maїs américain et de limiter le commerce à la farine de maїs garantissant l’impossibilité de contamination. Malheureusement les Etats-Unis ont protesté et le Gouvernement Mexicain n’a jamais pris de mesure dans ce sens.

Dans un rapport publié en 2007 par Mc Afee, la chercheuse demande aux autorités d’élargir le débat sur les risques de l’introduction des OGM au delà de ce qu’elle appelle « le champ de la techno-science ». Selon elle, les experts devraient élargir l’étude à l’impact des OGM sur toutes les variétés de maїs local mais aussi sur l’écologie, les croyances, le style de vie des paysans et leurs habitudes alimentaires car beaucoup d’entre eux continuent de cultiver la terre à la manière de leurs ancêtres en préservant les espèces locales génération après génération.

D’après Daniela Soleri, une ethno-écologue de l’Université de Californie à Santa Barbara qui étudie la culture, au sens large, du maїs au Mexique, « il y a eu un échec à maintenir des critères scientifiques impartiaux des deux cotés » et elle ajoute que le système américain, dans son interprétation de la situation, exclue des variantes tels que les fermiers et leur savoir traditionnel, ce qui fausse les résultats et provoque les crispations décrites.

Campagne Sin maíz no hay país, une résistance aux OGM bien organisée.

La résistance s’organise rapidement au Mexique pour défendre la souveraineté alimentaire du pays ainsi que sa biodiversité unique, le 25 Juin 2007 était lancée publiquement la campagne nationale : « Sin maíz no hay país, sin fríjol tampoco, pon a México en tu boca. » ( Sans maїs ni haricot, il n’y a pas de Mexico). Cette opération regroupe quelques 300 organisations de la société civile du monde rural et indigène (Via Campesina), écologiste (Greenpeace), des Droit de l’Homme, ou encore de défense des consommateurs... Cette initiative vise à sortir le maїs et les haricots des Accords commerciaux de l’ALENA mais aussi à interdire la culture de maїs transgénique au Mexique

Selon Martín Velázquez, porte-parole de la campagne Sin maíz no hay país, la souveraineté alimentaire implique la défense du mode de vie paysan et de l’environnement, ainsi que la préservation du patrimoine territorial. Elle touche le droit des paysans, des peuples autochtones et des consommateurs d’exiger et de définir des politiques alimentaires, et non de se les faire dicter.

Dans l’Etat du Chihuahua le ton monte entre la Communauté Mennonite cultivant des OGM et les représentants locaux de la campagne « Sin maíz no hay país », dont Victor Quintana aussi affilié à Via Campesina, qui menacent de faucher les champs de culture illégale sur les terres mennonites. La dispersion du pollen par le vent est déjà considérée responsable pour la contamination du maїs dans l’Etat voisin du Sinaloa, une région frontalière avec les Etats-Unis, où Greenpeace a conduit des tests en 2007 montrant des traces de maїs transgénique dans 96% des échantillons prélevés dans neuf municipalités. Le Sinaloa est le premier Etat producteur de maїs du Mexique. Aleira Lara, la coordinatrice de la campagne OGM de Greenpeace Mexique, considère que le confinement des cultures OGM à certaines régions est « illusoire et cosmétique ». L’année dernière Greenpeace a relevé 39 cas de contamination génétique par le vent dans quelques 23 pays.

Le Mexique est donc aujourd’hui au cœur de la tourmente OGM et la victime des pressions exercées par Monsanto et les firmes de biotechnologie mettant en œuvre toutes les méthodes déjà éprouvées dans le reste de l’Amérique Latine. La Société Civile mexicaine, à travers la campagne « Sin maíz no hay país », a démontré sa capacité de rassemblement et de protestation afin de défendre la « souveraineté alimentaire » et la culture du pays. Cependant, cela sera-t-il suffisant pour empêcher les politiciens du pays, dont la réputation vénale n’est plus à faire, d’ouvrir les vannes de l’invasion OGM ? Le Combat continue.

O movimento do capital financeiro

Nos últimos anos houve um processo intensivo e permanente de concentração e centralização das empresas que atuam e controlam todo processo produtivo da agricultura mundial.

Concentração é o conceito utilizado pela economia política para explicar o movimento que as grandes empresas fazem. Ir aglutinando, acumulando e se constituindo em grandes grupos. Assim, em cada ramo de produção vai se gerando uma situação de oligopólio, em que algumas poucas empresas controlam aquele setor. O segundo movimento do capital foi a centralização, que é a situação em que uma mesma empresa passa a controlar sozinha vários setores de produção, às vezes sem mesmo relação entre si. Esses dois movimentos lógicos do capital, foi complementado no setor agrícola com um processo de internacionalização do controle do mercado e do comércio a nível mundial. Ou seja, algumas empresas passaram a atuar em todos os países e controlar o mercado a nível mundial.

Esse movimento do capital, que era mais perceptível desde a teoria do imperialismo nas grandes empresas industriais, nos últimos dez anos passou a dominar também o setor agrícola. E o pior, agora, sob a hegemonia do capital financeiro, a velocidade e o volume de capital que aportou na agricultura veio com muito mais força e abrangencia, do que havia acontecido nos demais setores produtivos ao longo do século 20. E isso aconteceu, porque nos últimos anos acumulou-se nos países ricos, muito capital na forma de dinheiro, ou seja capital financeiro. E esse capital foi se deslocando para a compra de ações das empresas mais lucrativas também do setor primário. Assim, em poucos anos, por efeito da aplicação desse capital financeiro na compra de ações, a concentração e a centralização se deu de forma impressionante.

Resultado

Hoje, quase todos os ramos de produção agrícola estão controlados por grupos de empresas oligopolizadas, que se coordenam entre si. Assim, no controle da produção e comércio de grãos, como a soja, milho, trigo, arroz, girassol, estão apenas a Cargill, Monsanto, ADM, Dreyfuss, e Bungue, que controlam 80¨% de toda produção mundial. Nas sementes transgênicas, estão a Monsanto, a Norvartis, a Bayer e a Syngenta. Com controle de toda produção. Nos lacticínios e derivados encontramos a Nestlé, Parmalat e Danone. Nos fertilizantes, aqui no Brasil, apenas três empresas transnacionais controlam toda produção das matérias primas: Bungue, Mosaico e Yara. Na produção do glifosato, matéria prima dos venenos agrícolas, apenas duas empresas: Monsanto e Nortox. Nas máquinas agrícolas também o oligopólio é divido entre a AGco, Fiat, New Holland, etc.

Esse movimento que se desenvolveu a partir da década de 90, se acelerou nos últimos dois anos, com a crise do capitalismo nos Estados Unidos. As taxas de juros nos países centrais caíram ao nível de 2% ao ano, e, comparado com a taxa de inflação levou a que os bancos percam dinheiro. Então, o capital financeiro para a periferia dos sistema para se proteger da crise e manter suas taxas de lucro. Nos últimos dois anos, chegaram ao Brasil cerca de 330 bilhões de dólares na forma de dinheiro. Parte desse recurso foi aplicado através dos bancos locais, para incentivar as vendas a prazo, de Imóveis,eletrodomésticos, e automóveis, a taxas médias de 47% ao ano. Uma loucura, comparado com as taxas dos países desenvolvidos.

Outra parte do capital foi aplicado na compra de terras. Reportagem da Folha de São Paulo estimou que o capital estrangeiro comprou nos últimos anos, mais de 20 milhões de hectares. Em especial nas regiões do centro-oeste e na nova fronteira agrícola do chamado Ma-pi-to, (Maranhão, Piauí e Tocantis) aonde os preços das terras estavam muito baixos. Outra parte rumou para a amazônia em busca de áreas de minérios, de projetos de hidrelétricas, e garantindo a posse de imensas áreas de biodiversidade que mais tarde darão retorno para serem exploradas por seus laboratórios.

Na área de celulose, três grandes grupos norueguês (aracruz), sueco-finlandês (stora enzo)e americano (international paper) deslocaram toda sua produção para as ricas condições edafoclimáticas encontradas no Brasil. Assim, estão previstos uma expansão do monocultivo do eucalipto em toda região que vai do sul da Bahia até a fronteira com o Uruguai e mais seis novas fábricas projetadas. Serão milhares de hectares desse plantio industrial que destrói tudo e se transforma num verdadeiro deserto verde.

Também, houve elevada aplicação de capital estrangeiro na expansão do monocultivo da cana de açúcar para produção e exportação de etanol. A área de cana passou de 4 para 6 milhões de hectares. Há projetos para 77 novas usinas de etanol, que serão construídas ao longo de quatro grandes alcodutos projetados para trazerem o álcool do centro oeste para os portos de Santos e Paranaguá. E da região de Palmas(TO) para o porto de São Luis (MA). Dois desses alcodutos são da Petrobras e dois serão de investidores estrangeiros.

Aceleraram também seus investimentos na produção e multiplicação de sementes transgênicas, em especial do milho. Daí a pressão e o lobby das empresas Syngenta, Monsanto e Bayer, para que o governo liberasse suas variedades de milho transgênico. Algumas dessas variedades estão proibidas na Europa, mas por aqui... vale tudo!

O agronegócio

Essa avalanche do capital estrangeiro no controle de nossa produção agrícola, nos insumos e na expansão dos produtos para exportação só foi possível, em função da aliança que se produziu daquelas empresas com os fazendeiros grandes proprietários de terra. Os fazendeiros entram com grandes extensões de terra, com a depredação do meio ambiente e com a super-exploração do trabalho agrícola, as vezes até com trabalho escravo, e se associam subordinadamente a eles.

Nesse modelo agrícola, que chamamos de agronegócio, é o casamento das empresas transnacionais com os grandes proprietários de terras. Nele não há espaço para a agricultura familiar, camponesa. Não há espaço para o trabalho agrícola. Pois usam alta tecnologia, mecanização em todos os níveis e agrotóxicos.

O resultado já se percebe nas estatísticas. O Brasil está virando uma grande monocultura para exportação. Uma espécie de re-colonização agro-exportadora, lembrando os tempos do império. Dos 130 milhões de toneladas de grãos produzidos, nada menos de 110 milhões são apenas de soja e milho. A pecuária bovina fica com 300 milhões de hectares, para produzir para exportação. E o restante um imenso deserto verde do eucalipto. Esse é o modelo brasileiro! Dará muito lucro para alguns fazendeiros e para poucas empresas estrangerias. Já o povo brasileiro ficará com o passivo ambiental, com o desemprego e a pobreza.

Contradições afloram rápido

As contradições desse modelo perverso afloraram com rapidez. O preço dos alimentos disparou, fruto da especulação do capital financeiro nas bolsas e o controle oligopólico do mercado pelas empresas. Dobrou, em dólares, no ultimo ano. Os alimentos estão cada vez mais contaminados pelo uso intensivo de venenos. E o agro-negócio não consegue produzir alimentos sadios, sem agrotóxicos. Só agricultura familiar e camponesa consegue. A produção intensiva de etanol na forma de monocultivo da cana, não ameniza os problemas do aquecimento global, ao contrário, os agrava. O maior problema dos combustíveis não é apenas o petróleo, é sobretudo a forma de transporte individual, turbinado pelo capital financeiro no aumento de vendas de veículos a prazo. Transformaram nossas cidades num inferno.

Essa forma de monocultivo exaure os recursos naturais, o solo, o lençol freático e afeta a qualidade e localização das águas. O monocultivo destrói a biodiversidade e desiquelibra o meio ambiente da região.

Frente a essa situação é que os movimentos sociais reunidos na Via campesina Brasil resolveram se juntar e aumentar seus protestos. Nos últimos meses se multiplicaram os protestos de camponeses em todos os estados do país. Contra o modelo e contra a atuação das empresas transnacionais, como a Monsanto, Cargill, Syngenta, Bungue. Bayer, etc. Esses protestos tem servido como uma espécie de pedagogia de massas. Um alerta para que a sociedade brasileira desperte para a gravidade do problema e para suas conseqüências futuras.

A resposta das empresas...

As empresas estrangeiras e seus cães-de-guarda nacionais sabem dos problemas sociais e ambientais que causam. E não tendo razão na sua forma de dominar a natureza, resolveram enfrentar os movimentos da Via Campesina com diversas táticas combinadas. Primeiro, campanhas publicitárias milionárias, com artistas famosos, na imprensa. Segundo, manipulação de setores direitistas do judiciário e do Ministério publico, que aderem a eles por ideologia, para que criminalizassem com muitos processos aos líderes e militantes sociais. E aonde nada disso resolve, apelaram para a repressão, em especial naqueles estados governados por partidos direitistas como no Rio grande do sul, São Paulo, Rio e Minas Gerais, aonde os governos não êxitam em atiçar as policias militares na repressão violenta aos movimentos.

Engana-se que achar que esse tipo de problema se resolve com publicidade ou com repressão. Trata-se de uma disputa histórica entre duas formas de produzir alimentos. Uma que busca apenas o lucro, mesmo envenenando a natureza e seu produto. E a outra que visa a produção de alimentos saudáveis como um direito de toda população. Muitas batalhas haverão, certamente.

The moment has come when we might finally be able to deliver a deadly blow to the biotech industry. The giant Monsanto corporation is in the lead when it comes to selling and making huge profits from GMO seeds, pesticides and fertilizers.

These are toxic products that are right now in the process of ruining the earth's ecosystems. They are also in the food we eat, since we are the unknowing guinea pigs for this catastrophic experiment, callously engineered by the biotech companies. We are kept ignorant because GM food is sold without proper labelling. GM cultures are replacing biological and small-scale farming by giant monocultures of genetically modified crops that have clearly verified health hazards, from cancer to skin diseases.

Only through infiltration of agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) by high-level Monsanto employees has this gigantic corporation managed to make its way unhindered to an already well-on-the-way take-over of the world's agriculture.

While the biotech corporations make billions, small farmers are forced to leave their land, move to city slums where they slowly starve to death with their families. Many commit suicide when they are so deeply in debt to these biotech sharks that they see no way out of their misery.

Wem der ZEIT-Artikel, auf den ich hier ja schon eingegangen bin,dann doch ein bisschen zu sentimental vorkommt, der kann ja mal lesen, was Jochen Hoff bei Duckhome über das Bienensterben zu sagen hat. Ganz kurz gefasst:

Tolle Aussichten! Und das betrifft dann nicht nur den Urigen Kleinbauern mit seiner Hühnerfarm in Schottland, sondern uns alle. In dem Artikel von Hoff geht es Huaptsächlich um Dünger, Pestizide und das ganz grosse Kassieren von Gewinnen:

Je weiter eingegrenzt die Menschen sind, desto weniger können sie dem Zugriff von Mohn/Bertelsmann ausweichen. Die freie Nahrungsproduktion und der Tauschhandel sind etwas, dass zusammen mit Tierzucht, ein freies Leben ermöglichen könnte und darf deshalb nicht geduldet werden darf, weshalb die Mohns die Bestrebungen der großen Saatgutkonzerne nach patentiertem Saatgut und patentierten Tieren unterstützen.

Bei ihm gibt es auch einige sehr interessante Artikel zu Monsanto, aber darauf komme ich noch mal in einem anderen Text zurück - hoffe ich.

Was ich deshalb hier zum besten geben will: Ich war in der 11. Klasse in Williamsburg, IA wo auch Holden Foundation Seeds seinen Sitz hat (gehört seit 1997 zu Monsanto).
Dieses Unternehmen war von 1937 bis 1997 Weltmarktführer im produzieren von sogenannten "Eltern"-Samen für Mais. Was steckt dahinter?
Aus Elterngenerationen verschiedener "Zucht"linien kann man Hybride züchten - also irgendwelche Kreuzungen. Ein beispiel für ein Mais-Hybrid ist zum Beispiel Bt-Mais, eine Schädlingsresistente Maissorte. Diese Hybride zeichnen sich durch den sogenannten "Heterosis-Effekt" aus, d.h. dass z.B. der Ertrag steigt und diese Generation einfach super-duper ist.
Mal in Mendel für fortgeschrittene zitiert:

Diese heterotischen Hybriden sind mischerbig und homogen, entsprechend der 1. mendelschen Regel (Uniformitätsregel). Danach sind die Individuen in der F1-Generation zweier reinerbiger Eltern, die ihrerseits unterschiedliche Allele eines Gens tragen, im Genotyp gleich. Dies beruht darauf, dass im doppelten Chromosomensatz je ein Allel von der Mutter und eines vom Vater stammt.

Während in der P-Generation also alle chromosomalen Genorte (Loci) reinerbig besetzt sind (AA bzw. aa), sind sie in der F1-Generation alle mischerbig (Aa, Bb etc.) besetzt.
Die Erfahrung lehrt, dass bei Merkmalen wie Produktivität, Wüchsigkeit u.ä. die günstigen Allele eher dominant sind. Wenn nun die reinerbigen Eltern sich für die Verteilung reinerbig dominanter und rezessiver Allele komplementär unterscheiden, dann wird das Merkmal in der Hybride höher ausgeprägt sein als in jedem Elternteil.

Nun ja, wer sich damit auskennt ;)

Der Nachteil: von der F1 zur F2 Generation (kreuzt man also das Hybrid mit dem Hybrid, wie es auf Maisfeldern unter normalen Bedingungen vorkommen würde), fallen die Erträge deutlich schlechter aus (um bis zu 30%). Es lohnt sich somit also nicht, selbst zu züchten, sondern man kauft wieder neuen Mais hinzu :) Danke für die Abhänigkeit!

Durch den Zukauf von Holden Seeds Foundation hat also Monsanto mal eben so den Weltgrößten Konzern zur Herstellung von Elternlinien (also den Zuchtlinien) von Mais einverleibt. Und ohne Elternlinien keine Hybride und damit keine Saat für den Bauern. Weil - das gekreuzte Hybrid taugt nichts mehr (s. Text)....

Also, wir fassen zusammen was alles für veränderten Mais spricht:
- (Mais-)Hybride taugen nicht für die eigene Zucht
- Saatgutfirmen (eigentlich gibt es da mit einem Marktanteil von 90% nur noch Monsanto) erhalten ein Monopol auf unsere Nahrungsmittel und machen Bauern EXTREM von sich abhängig - den der Mais braucht ja auch Düngemittel, Pflanzenschutz etc. (Und Monsanto hat seine Wurzeln in der Chemie, ist das schön)
- Hybride zerstören heimische Bestände (in Mexiko nen Problem -> Transgener Mais)
- und da haben wir jetzt noch keine Patentklagen, Patentgebühren etc. - die es natürlich auch noch gibt - einbezogen
- und wir haben keine Gesundheitsstudien berücksichtigt - was machen diese veränderten Gene im Menschen?

Früher fand ich Gen-veränderte Pflanzen nicht SOOO schlimm, nun ja, wenn die Pflanzen denn auch mal in der Wüste wachsen, warum nicht? Allerdings ist das wahrscheinlich die Ausnahme der Forschung, und selbst diese Forschung wird ihren Preis haben.
Auch wäre es alles anders zu bewerten, wenn es wirklcihen Wettbewerb gäbe - dann würden u.U. Firmen Studien finanzieren, die mal über die Gesundheitsrisiken der Konkurrenzprodukte aufklärt... Aber ob das nicht doch ne Utopie ist? Man zerstört sich ja nicht sein eigenes Geschäftsfelt.

Nun ja, es bleibt glaub ich nicht abzuwarten, sondern man sollte mal handeln. Nur wie? Bio Bauern? IDK.

Oh, und es soll wohl nen tollen Film geben (außer den geposteten): King Corn
