Mogulus–a company that bills itself as offering companies and

Mogulus--a company that bills itself as offering companies and
consumers everything they need in order to set up their own live or
on-demand, 24/7 TV channel online, including multiple-camera and
editing capabilities (note: the company claims to have enabled over
100,000 customers to launch their own TV channels, and that the
viewing audience for those channels has doubled every 60 days for the
past 10 months, generating over 200 million unique viewer minutes per
month)--has secured a $10 million investment from its customer,
newspaper publisher Gannett. "Mogulus adds a new and exciting
dimension to Gannett's already broad-based multimedia journalism
efforts," Gannett chairman, president and CEO, Craig A. Dubow, said
in a prepared statement. "Our reporters and photographers in the field
are equipped with video cameras, laptops and broadband wireless
connections to enable timely and relevant news delivery to the Web.
Now, with Mogulus, all our journalists--including print and Web
reporters--can deliver live, multicamera broadcasts of news events to
our customers. Live Internet broadcasting tools are essential in this new
media age. We believe in the space and in the ability of Mogulus to
deliver."

In April, Mogulus signed a deal with the Gannett to provide
broadcasting services on its newspapers' Web sites. Gannett papers
have since then used Mogulus's service for a number of projects,
including a live Webcast of an interview with Democratic presidential
candidate, Barack Obama, by the Indianapolis Star (Gannett says that
the interview attracted 40,000 concurrent viewers); and a live Webcast
of an interview with rival Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary
Clinton, by the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. According to Mogulus, its
service allows end-users to easily mix multiple live cameras, video
clips and overlay graphics. The company, which also counts Fox as a
customer, currently offers an ad-supported free service, but says that it
will shortly launch a white-label "Pro" version of the service.
According to Mogulus co-founder and CEO, Max Haot, the company
plans to use the new funding to accelerate development of Mogulus
Pro, recruit senior service-sales and advertising-sales executives, and
"deploy the Mogulus Pro service deeper within Gannett properties and
those of other customers."

Trascrizione: http://cristianpascottini.wordpress.c...

Progetto tv.IALweb.it

Obiettivi

dare un aspetto grafico alle pagine in cui il video domini la scena;

permettere all’utente di includere il video anche in altre pagine Web;

descrivendo i video con tag accurati;

inserendo nella sitemap i link alle singole pagine contenenti i video;

inserendo nei feed dei puntatori ai video per un loro successivo download;

I have been running regular tours of the Virtual Green Data Center, both in Second Life, and also simultaneously streaming them online using Mogulus. This is really great, as it allows us to invite everyone, even those who can't or won't come into Second Life, and still have a degree of interaction. This tends to work really well if I am supporting someone else running the tour as I can fly my camera around to focus in on what they are talking about. My new 3D connexion mouse thingy and the Second Life Release candidate make that a pleasure as I can execute smooth pans and zooms without the need for pre-setup camera positions, making it better viewing for our online participants.

The other nice thing about Mogulus, is that you can embed their player into your page, so somehow we got dispensation to embed it into an ibm.com page, and placed it in our Business Center page. Currently it plays a 2 minute video about the Green Data Center (narrated by my multi-talented) wife, but can be switched live to show a tour of the data center or indeed anything else.

LiveStreaming video service Mogulus will announce a new round of financing later today. The size of the investment won’t be disclosed, although we’ve heard from a source that it is in the $10 million range. But far more important than the amount of capital raised is the investor. Gannett, a $4 billion company which owns USA Today and other news and media properties, funded the round.

Mogulus, like competitors Ustream and Justin.tv, allow anyone with a camera, computer and Internet connection to live stream to the Internet, reducing huge overhead costs for remote coverage (you don’t need things like satellite uplinks).

Mogulus allows upstart video bloggers like Sarah Austin to host live video shows on a shoestring budget. But it also facilitates serious journalism. In May, for example, controversial statements made by Hillary Clinton on a Mogulus stream led to nationwide media coverage.

Gannett gets this. And i assume they’ll find ways to enable their reporters around the world to start using Mogulus to get video footage to the web as fast as possible when news breaks.

Mogulus has now raised nearly $13 million in capital - about the same as Ustream. But even with Gannett behind them, Mogulus has no time to waste in growing their service - YouTube is said to be launching live video sometime this year.

Live-streaming service Mogulus has raised $10 million in funding from news giant Gannett. TechCrunch

Live-streaming service Mogulus has raised $10 million in funding from news giant Gannett. TechCrunch first wrote about the story, and our sources corroborate that figure. Mogulus had raised $1.2 million in seed funding in May of last year and another $1.5 million in January of this year.

Gannett signed on to use Mogulus' services in April and the partnership actually led to breaking presidential campaign news when Sen. Hillary Clinton's remarks about the assassination of Robert Kennedy were caught on a Mogulus stream.

With its war chest full, Mogulus just needs to figure out how to make money. The company introduced overlay ads in May and announced that it would roll out a "pro" service over the coming months that charged for a higher quality experience.

The livecasting space certainly isn't without competitors. Ustream raised $11.1 million in April, Justin.tv says it just passed 1 million registered users, Stickam just launched a pay per view service and YouTube says it will be adding live video this year.

We sent a note to Mogulus for confirmation and will update when we hear back.

I had one of the guys from Connector Systems come aboard the Supertanker today to make a site survey

I had one of the guys from Connector Systems come aboard the Supertanker today to make a site survey for a WiFi project I have had on the back burner ever since I arrived. For those of you who are not quite sure where the Supertanker is, I suggest that you take a look at a little video that I made well over a year ago, called 'Where in the world is Meadowbank School?' To date nearly 9000 people have asked that same question and have used the video to find out. The most obvious and special part of the school is the stupendous gully that bisects our site and the entire school into two separate sites. It has been an environmental reclamation scheme over the last 8 years or so and today it is a wonderful resource that the students and teachers use regularly. A connecting foot bridge spans the gully at canopy level and provides great views into the bush clad gully. It is a special place indeed.

When I joined the Supertanker I decided then and there that this resource was too special not to share. I have been slowly inching my way to that goal ever since. It is my aim to set up wireless access points in the gully so that I can have several cameras set up to stream live content to the web in order that others can benefit from our good fortune. At the moment I want to set up an 'eelcam' in the creek, a 'fungi cam' by the rotting logs in addition to that I want to set up feed stations with a camera at each so that students can monitor how and what different native birds eat. Steve at Connector Systems now knows that we have a large technical issue to solve. He has gone away scratching his head, to get what we want will not be cheap and will take several iterations to afford and roll out.

Once the infrastructure is in place I will be using a resource called Mogulus to capture and record the streamed video, so that even when we are offline or at night, others in other time zones will be able to see and share our resource. This is all mangaged by the multiple camera facility and the ability to record live streams and build storyboards within Mogulus. Mogulus is a really cool resource that I will be presenting on at Ulearn08, I have just discovered today.

In the meantime we have to rely on static images to share the flora and fauna of our urban Eden. Currently one of the ornamental cherry trees is in flower and the Tui's have gone mad over it. It is not unusual for 10 or more of these birds to be feasting and squabbling in the same tree. Take a look at some of the images that I took a couple of weekends ago and imagine what a live feed of the same thing would mean to your class. All donations to the cause gratefully accepted!

I know, I should be sleeping. But isn't that always the best time to write?

I'm a relatively new and naive blogger, becoming rapidly overwhelmed by the diversity of services and platforms that are available to perform all manner of blogging and social networking tasks. I can remember, a year or so ago, lamenting the fact that there where so many services and websites that posted, bookmarked, favorited, dugg, ranked, commented, tagged, aggregated, distributed (all of these things and more) your data from your website or blog - to make your information more visible and reach more people.

You have barely worked out how to use and utilise one service, when another one appears that does a slightly different thing, a slightly different way. All of these services require that you sign up, have a user name and a password, and maintain a profile, and status updates; they have their own message, chat or email system; you can add friends, pals, subscribers, fans, crew, collaborators, customers, clients, pets - the works. Where will it all end? How can we keep track of everything? Do we need all or any of these services? What works and what doesn't? How can we integrate all of these services together; so that we can make some sense out of them?

I've lost track of the number of places where I have developed a digital presence. As well as my own unique persona, I represent a number of musical groups that I am promoting, because I love their original, alternative creativity. In order to get them 'on the net' we maintain a lot of websites; social networking is a great way to spread our music and our video clips. We are not organised enough yet to actually sell anything; we are satisfied enough that people will listen and watch, become our friends, subscribe to some of our channels, give us encouraging comments - and share their own music with us. Slowy, we are reaching a global audience and building a global network.

The actual task of producing music and film clips is supposed to be our prime directive. Such creativity still goes on; but we have been sidetracked to some extent by the process of publishing, packaging and promoting our material. First we had to get our first web sites hosted and published, needing html and design skills, (not to mention myriads of programming languages and protocols). Then we needed to promote our simple little sites and make sure Google googled them and thousands of people would come and visit. Targetting audiences and markets for your site can become a full-time job, and has become an industry in itself.

As a musical commodity, it behoves us to have a presence on MySpace, where, indeed we have made a small toe-hold, as well as hosting our own web sites. We uploaded some videos to YouTube, but we did not experience many views; so we joined LiveVideowhere we established a small amount of traffic and friends. Later we signed up with TubeMogul, which distributes videos to a dozen video hosting sites.

From this point our traffic started to grow, and our dream of world domination began to take hold. We signed up for some more video channels, and some live channels and looked around for somewhere to spread our music. We signed up for more and more services. We started blogging about what we were doing, and what we wanted to do. We searched for sources of material to help us design, code, publish, promote, network and anything else that we couldn't afford to neglect. We signed up for a new blog and stopped blogging at the other one. Then we signed up for another one; we tried to host our own blog, which we nearly did. In short, we struggled, blindly, alone; a gnat amongst the frenzy of furious fans and friends.

If signing with TubeMogul represented one breakthrough in our quest for traffic, the adaption of FaceBook and Twitter were also significant milestones in our propagation. I had resisted joining FaceBook for a long time - I didn't think it would be useful and I surely didn't need to sign up for something else and keep another profile and all that rigmarole. Did I? And Twitter? What a silly name. But then everything seems to have a silly name on the internet.

FaceBook is a very powerful social networking tool; I was really unaware of how pervasive it has become and how useful it really is. Twitter broadcasts short bursts of information from sources that you choose to listen to. These bursts of twittering might include chatty, domestic banter; or you can select breaking news, tech news, updates, gossip, informed commentary, uninformed commentary, Mars lander updates, hurricane and weather alerts, traffic reports, what music people are listening to, what videos and movies and tv shows . . . endless - but useful, up-to-date information, rich with links to more detail.

Twitter has spawned hundreds of sites, applications and services to enhance the publishing of 104-character messages. Blogging has deconstructed itself into micro-blogging; now we can microblog. I'm not sure if I ever intended to become a microblogger, or a blogger, or a web publisher - we just want to make music and dance. How can we make sense of all these websites and services with silly names that are now all part of our social network? How do we integrate all of these services together so that they work for us? How can we make sense out of all these silly names.

Google, (and all of the Google services: Adsense, gMail, Analytics, Reader, etc) Yahoo, GeoCities, MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, flickr, del.ioci.us, digg, furl, tubemogul, revver, metacafe, myspacetv, blip.tv, crackle, veoh, dailymotion, blinkx, uLinkx, mashable, beet.tv, mogulus, worldtv, livevideo, live.yahoo, magnify, videosearch, trueveo, ustream, qik, vodpod, bebo, oSkope, pixsy, mofuse, wordpress, drupal, blogger, bloglines, kickapps, tag.clipr, friendfeed, feedburner, RSS, twitter, plurk, thwirl, ping.fm, digsby, netvibes . . . and on and on and on - how do we see the big picture of all of this? How do we see how all of these pieces fit together? What can be discarded?

I know. I've raised more questions than I've answered. But I do have to think about getting some sleep, just at the moment. It's going to be a long day tomorrow. I will pick up this theme of integration . . . in a day or two.

The last few days I have been in Canada for the Brethren In Christ gathering of church leaders. We call it General Conference. The theme for this years General Conference is "Jesus Worshipped in the Nations". For the first time ever we are broadcasting live over the internet our evening sessions. Yesterday afternoon we had nearly 160 computers tuned into our broadcast of our afternoon dialog with Shabir Ally and BIC missionary Jay Smith. For the first time ever I am using Mogulus as the service to broadcast live. We are converting the video locally using Adobe Flash Media Encoder and then sending the feed to Mogulus for distribution. I have been pleasantly impressed with this free service! I would highly recommend this service to anyone looking to broadcast online! Check out our broadcasts here.
