PUTRAJAYA, July 7 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak has described the "One Million People Protest Rally" organised by the opposition in Petaling Jaya yesterday as a failure because of the poor turnout.

The deputy prime minister said the rally had failed to achieve its target of 1 million people.

"The people did not turn up in the numbers expected. Only the hardcore supporters were there," he told reporters after launching the Settlers Day celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Najib said demonstrations were not the way to solve problems because they only served to vent one's feelings and did not offer realistic and practical solutions.

Never thought I'd say this, but Najib is right. Demonstrations are not the way to solve problems.

Hence why nobody said that the protest rally was held to solve the problem of the recent fuel price hike. Who said anything about solving problems? The rally was so that the people could show their protest. So that the people could show their discontent. People Power yesterday was not about solving problems, it was about expressing our concerns.

He said the rally failed, because it didn't achieve the target of 1 million people. I wasn't there, I don't know. But from what I've read so far, the rally started at 10 am, ended at 12 midnight. So it was a whole day sort of thing. The Stadium had a capacity of around 20,000. The stadium was around half-full some of the time, a quarter full most of the time.

If the initial target was for 1 million people to be there simultaneously at any one time, then they surely didn't meet their target at all. But if the target was that 1 million people would attend the rally throughout the entire day, then maybe they did achieve it.

Successes and failures of rallies do not depend solely on whether they hit the target or not. I think it depends on whether there was a good turnout, and whether there was a strong show of support for the rally or not. In this case, I'm not in a position to say. Some have called it a success, some have said they were disappointed.

But a failure? I'm not so sure.

On the other hand, we seem to have failures abound. Samy Vellu has called ex-MIC Youth Chief a failure:

KUALA LUMPUR: Former MIC Youth chief S.A. Vigneswaran was good at chairing meetings but failed to come up with clear programmes and policies to uplift Indian youths, said party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu yesterday.

In his first attack after his former protege asked him to step down, Samy Vellu said Vigneswaran had failed in his responsibilities, as there were more cases of Indian youths involved in juvenile problems and murders reported in the newspapers.

“He (Vigneswaran) should have focused his attention on the problems faced by the Indian youth apart from resolving the problems within the MIC Youth,” he told reporters after the joint opening of the MIC Wanita, Youth, Puteri and Putera MIC wings' annual general assembly.

Vignes has had a falling out with Samy lately, especially since he was "forced" to relinquish his post as Youth Chief because he went over the age limit of 41. Vignes quit MIC, and has said that he is not going to rejoin MIC until and unless Samy steps down.

Sound familiar? Seems like the "in" thing to do these days. Dr Mahathir has made himself a trendsetter. Although he would much prefer that it is the UMNO members who follow this trend.

But Samy is pushing the limit here a bit. Vignes is a failure (so Samy says), because "there are more cases of Inidan youths involved in juvenile problems and murders".

So... It's all Vignes' fault, and has nothing to do with Samy, because Samy is president of MIC, his concerns are with the "adult problems"?

Vignes was Youth Chief, so Samy says that he "should have focused his attention on the problems faced by the Indian youth". So Samy is MIC President, he should focus his attention on the problems faced by Indian adults?

I'm at a loss. Because Samy seems to be pushing the blame of the problems of Indian youth on Vignes. So then of course Wanita MIC takes care of the Indian women. Putera and Puteri MIC should be taking care of the Indian males and females. So then where lies Samy's responsibilities? What does he do? What would be his fault?

Wait. Nothing is his fault, because nothing is his responsibility. That's why he's still MIC President. Because nothing is his fault, he cannot be blamed, and therefore making him the only person who cannot be called a failure.

A commotion broke out in a temple compound here when a group of people claiming to be Maika Holdings investors could not meet MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu yesterday.

The group of about 50 had waited for more than three hours and became agitated when Samy Vellu refused to discuss their grievances over the losses they claimed to have suffered.

The protesters had initially gathered at around 9am outside the SJK (T) Ladang Ulu Tiram in Ulu Tiram near here.

However, they rushed to the Arulmigu Thiru Murugan temple about 2km away when they found out that Samy Vellu was there.

At the temple, tempers flared between the protesters and MIC vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan when they accused one another of speaking disrespectfully.

The protesters calmed down and agreed to move out of the temple compound when they were told that the matter would be discussed outside.

MIC leader Dr S Subramaniam has problems with his grammar. When he said, the series of measures unveiled by the government, signifies the Indian community had never been marginalised. I guess he wanted to say, the community won’t be marginalised henceforth, but referring to the past, reminds me of a friend having difficulty with past and present tense.

He is excited that the following had been promised by the Government:

• Najib Razak announcing help in the fields of education, business and civil service
• This announcement is looked at as if God send, and Najib Razak asserted the Indians had never been marginalised

Sebelum itu, Samy Vellu menghadiri majlis perletakan batu asas pembinaan bangunan baru Sekolah Tamil Ladang Ulu Tiram.

Keadaan bertukar kecoh apabila sekumpulan 100 orang mahukan penjelasan Presiden MIC itu mengenai isu saham syarikat Maika Holdings.

Menurut laporan Bernama, mereka mengambil kesempatan berkumpul di pintu masuk sekolah berkenaan mendesak Samy Vellu menjelaskan kedudukan sebenar saham itu sehingga menyebabkan ibu bapa mereka yang membeli saham itu lebih 20 tahun lalu tidak mendapat sebarang faedah.

Majlis perletakan batu asas yang bermula 9 pagi itu dihadiri kira-kira 200 orang termasuk ibu bapa pelajar dan guru sekolah itu.

Wartawan akhbar Tamil Makkal Osai, C. Rasamanikam yang menghadiri majlis itu berkata, Samy Vellu enggan menemui kumpulan terbabit dan telah meninggalkan premis sekolah berkenaan menggunakan pintu yang lain selepas majlis itu selesai 11.30 pagi.

“Kenderaan yang membawa Samy Vellu bertindak meninggalkan premis sekolah itu menggunakan pintu lain, menyedari kumpulan yang ingin bertemunya telah berkumpul di pintu masuk sekolah itu,” katanya.

Menurut Rasamanikam, kenderaan Presiden MIC itu terpaksa menggunakan jalan ladang untuk ke satu majlis lain yang diadakan di sebuah kuil Hindu di Taman Bukit Tiram, tidak jauh dari sekolah berkenaan.

Bagaimanapun, katanya, kumpulan itu mengekori Samy Vellu dan berkumpul di luar kuil terbabit tetapi Presiden MIC itu tetap enggan menemui mereka.

Rasamanikam berkata, Presiden MIC itu meninggalkan kuil berkenaan tidak lama kemudian.

Between Anwar Ibrahim And Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Who is saying the truth,

Now, the Malaysian political scene is in a situation whereby leaders are saying yes openly but no secretly, and it is time to read in between the lines, or see who fumbles, and thus we get a clearer picture of what is going on...

Let us start with some basics, so that you can follow what I am presenting here, as events unfold.

As a Malaysian citizen, you and I, we are facing an economic shrinking, with hardships and burden that are phenomenal. This is the doing and the responsibility of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and his unable government, and some funny cabinet ministers. This pain is continuous.

As a result there have been pressures against Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down.

In the surrounding there are similar pressures against for example S Samy Vellu to step down too.

Other leaders who understand that each of them are responsible have taken the necessary measures, such as Koh Tsu Khoon of Gerakan; Ong Ka Ting and Chong Kong Choy of MCA.

Malaysia and Malaysians need a leader now who can transform the whole, so that we are free from the economic shackle, the doing of international institutional speculators, where money is traded as a commodity.

So, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi feels the heat, and the biggest blow comes with a vote of NO confidence, by Yong Teck Lee and SAPP.

But Abdullah Ahmad Badawi gave clear indication that he will stay as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Chairman of Barisan Nasional, and President of UMNO.

Surely Abdullah Ahmad Badawi cannot proceed sitting on the Chair forever. There will be a moment that a succesor will be named to replace him.

Mohd Najib Abdul Razak is seen as not an Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's choice. This name is only mentioned to stabilize the existing pressure and to slow down Mohd Najib Abdul Razak rising to the top. That is why, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi did not mentioned the most important point in the transition of leadership and the transfer of power, that is crucial -time.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is buying time.

Is Abdullah Ahmad Badawi waiting for Anwar Ibrahim to clear the path to PutraJaya, given ample time for Anwar Ibrahim to take over as the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia. This can be seen when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is so accommodating toward Anwar Ibrahim movement, always nearer to PutraJaya.

The tick to tick pressure, daily, is on Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Step down. So how long can Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wait, while UMNO is restless, and Barisan Nasional is decaying.

Then, Anwar Ibrahim movement toward becoming the sixth Prime Minister, and his nearing to PutraJaya si curb. The Sodomy Case.

This case can be so clear, that a Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, made a police report, the medical experts carry out thorough bodily checked up, the forensic expert comb thoroughly the house in the said condo, and the police carry out an investigation, calling both to make statements, and whether this case is dismissed or brought to court for justice.

Simple?

Well, not that simple.

Working in a television station is a high-stress job.  Early mornings with buckets of coffee, short deadlines with slow editors, and hot-air balloon sized egos running around causing trouble.  So it's easy to mess up.  The internet is full of amazing video clips of angry anchors, reporters dealing with idiots on live TV, and sad assistants dealing with all the other crap.  

And now, some poor sucker working for French state TV had to deal with the wrath of French president Nicolas Sarkozy while attaching a mic before an hour-long interview last night.  Sarkozy didn't get a response to "hello" and nearly went into a verbal tirade, calling it "incredible" that the assistant had such bad manners.  

You would think that the Télépresident would at least have the common sense not to blow up in a TV studio - where cameras catch everything.  The leaked clip has already gone viral - Lizzie Davies at the Guardian reported today that Sarkozy's misstep has been watched half a million times in just one day.  

That can't be good for the ratings.

Penang MIC Youth Deputy Chief Quits Post

PENANG, July 1 (Bernama) -- State MIC Youth deputy chief Vincent David Tuesday quit his post in protest over the party leadership's directive to national Youth chief S. A. Vigneswaran to relinguish his position.
David also announced his resignation as MIC central executive council member.
He said his decision was based on the MIC leadership having directed Vigneswaran to quit his post as Youth chief, well before the latter's term ended in 2009.

Vigneswaran Will Return To MIC If Samy Vellu Steps Down

A Good leader is one supported by good followers. A leader is not a leader when she of he does not have followers.

The best part of this story is, Samy Vellu saying that the resignation of Youth Chief was to give way for the younger generation to serve the party.

He also adding by saying that, “There are alot of Young graduates who want to help the party but cannot do so as others are holding the post of Youth Chief for too long”.

What a funny and stupid statement…. He really want young generation to lead the party, but he wont give up his position…

A Leader builds other leaders for a succession so that MIC continue to be relevant. But, when the top leader such as S Samy Vellu overstays, this young leaders do not have the opportunity to lead as both the top and the young growing older together.

Young leaders cannot be wanting leadership for power only. Each must be having in her or his top priority serving Malaysians and those that MIC represents.

A meeting is nice between S Samy Vellu, and Vigneswaran as well as Vincent David. Else how many must resign in order to sound the message loud and clear?

Either there shall emerge a splinter party, or soon or later each can prefer to join Pakatan Rakyat. What will happen then to MIC as well as Barisan Nasional?

Mi s-a facut o propunere (de catre Dumitru Morosanu, director de Departament si de catre Octavian Iordachescu, Director de Programe) si am acceptat-o crezind ca se poate face ceva acolo. Am incercat vreme de un an. Am reusit sa angajez si doi colegi din Divertis (unul era, deja angajat!). Nu am reusit sa fac mare lucru, poate si pentru ca redactia respectiva s-a numit, pina in 89, Cintarea Romaniei. MIC Youth leader S.A. Vigneswaran has resigned and threatened to open his former mentor’s Pandora’s box. These are signs that something is really not right in the party. by BARADAN KUPPUSAMY, THE STAR IT IS rare for leaders in MIC to resign. The usual way to disconnect with the party is through expulsion. Therefore it was a rare occasion for MIC Youth leader S.A. Vigneswaran, a one time blue-eyed boy of party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, to announce on Sunday his immediate resignation from the party. They had a fallout after Vigneswaran indirectly sided with rebels in the MIC whose aim is to pressure Samy Vellu to quit. Vigneswaran or Vicky as he is known to those close to him, gave a rambling press conference going back and forth about Samy Vellu and how the March 8 election disaster is all Samy Vellu’s doing. The content has been well kept, but once it is open, than Malaysians will know a perspective from Vigneswaran, what actually happen to MIC in relations to its President.

Likewise, S Samy Vellu can open up the lid of S A Vigneswaran's pandora box.

Vigneswaran also advised MIC president to leave and prove that he can survive without MIC or bury MIC.

Outside we had set up a Bar B Q for people in the neighborhood so all the kids and fat mothers who hung out on the sidewalks chalking up their diabetes points were serving as a front to us, even if they didn't know about it. Who would really be interested in going to church on a Saturday? We had a few people in the storefront church and the preacher booming with his microphone in front, but we were - well, let me take a step back to tell you how everything on the block way laid out so you can see how we did it. After all, if you ever want to plan your own one of these, you're going to need to know how to do it. How to put it all into action.

I'll tell you about the 4 spots at the end of the block first.

Though there is a liquor store on the ground level, above it is the upstairs extension of Bud's Sports Bar. Now this place is always closed. That is, if you go in through the front entrance around the corner. Nobody goes that way. There is a door next to the liquor store that leads up to the top floor - the private room. You'll see people coming in and out of there for private parties.

Next to that is the Chicken and Pizza spot, which I've told you about a few times - That's where Chicken Bob usually hangs, and then, next that, it is the storefront church. Got it?

Now in back of that church there was a room, which was a waiting room, that once you were cleared to moved through, had a back staircase that lead up to the top room above Buds Sports Bar. This was kept like this so that if anyone ever came to break up a meeting, we'd have an escape route. You need to have those with all plans, because those who figure on never getting caught are always the ones who spend their remaining time on this planet locked up. For me, the time I had wasted working in offices and eating scraps so I could help someone else live their dream was time being locked up enough.

People came in through the church. Each time the door opened, you could hear the preacher yelling in Spanish into the microphone. A few kids in the back row adjusted their ties while the luck ones got to practice on the drums and piano - all religion needs a soundtrack. It does.

The room filled quickly, and as it did, we started letting people upstairs. We had The first Bran Nubian album playing softly in the background so people would feel like they were marching out to a title fight as they ascended the stairs. I noticed the kid from the bridge standing there with his crew - each of them looked slightly different from the other - one with a straight brimmed bucket lid that went over his ears, one with it bent hard like a taco, the other with it tilted on a diagonal and the last with the brim completely cut off. That one was nice.

The Boxer, still with his sweats on (he never stopped training) and the old couple who took nightly strolls, were there as well. Even the kid from the vestibule. He was the last to come in. Told me he was representing everyone else who was part of the Block Clean-Up program and that if he liked what was spoken tonight, he'd do his part in recruiting. Would be a tough sell.

I got a text from Namuna to come home as soon as possible after the meeting. She was leaving for some upstate house early in the morning and she wanted some time together.

"Meet me on the fire escape" the text read.

It was time to go. A moment in which futures were going to be decided.

I stepped up to the mic.

I felt like Sirus standing up at the start of The Warriors.

My friends. I'm not much of a speaker. Usually I write everything down. I edit my words. I craft how I come across. But today, today I come raw to you. I come here because this section of our world, one of the few left in the city, is under attack. There are no bombs dropping. There is no gas being seeped in. No. The death they are trying to make happen is a slow march. One that you are used to. The smells from the block. The people dying of cancer from the cigarettes. The Diabetes rate in the neighborhood for the lack of quality food. No. You are victims of thinking that this is the way to live. To die. They want you to melt away. If you melt, the neighborhoods will be deemed unsafe, the buildings torn down, and the ones put back up will not have you living in them.

'Worse than any of that, they will have you think that this is a black vs. white issue. That this is a PR vs. DR issue. That this is the fault of Mexicans moving in. No. They are distracting you. They are having you talk about issues that do not exist. They are created because it is easy for you to justify them. That is why you step over the glass on the streets and toss your plastic wrappers on the ground. They want you to do this. You are selling yourself out. 

"What I am ashamed of is that, at one point, I thought I was part of this solution. I thought that the clean-up program on the block would bring some pride to the neighborhood, but no. No I tell you. I too was a puppet at the hands of the faceless they. I was the final piece of their puzzle. The first face in the long list of final faces. But now, NOW i see that there can be no outside help. It is us. WE need to stop things from going to far. The rest of Harlem is already under siege. There are marches of protest but there is no plan of action. I have one here my friends. It does not call for black and white separation. It calls for economic unity among the working class people of this block, the last block in Harlem, to come together and make sure that when we walk out that door, we can still say hello to our neighbor. That we, WE will control our own means of change. 

"We can create it, but it starts here. It starts now. We are all part of this movement!"

The crowd did not erupt. Those times were over. They hyped though. You can tell there was a rumble in the air. People were figuring out how they could be a part of things. The people we invited to the meeting were not followers - they were the leaders of the community. We tool the WEB Debois model and combined it with the Booker T. Washington plan - the way it should have been done in the first place.

We were ready. The ideas were starting to come about. Now all we needed was to put it down in a formal constitution and we'd be on our way.

Anything can happen when you will it. Remember that when you are about to give up.

We have heard in Malaysia, a leader says she or he will continue for as long as there are supports from the followers.

S Samy Vellu lost his parliamentary Seat in Sungai Siput.

S Samy Vellu was not listed in the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Cabinet Ministers' Line-Up.

Some are thinking that S Samy Vellu to also quit when Mahathir Mohamad left the government post. However, S Samy Vellu continued to this day as the President of MIC.

Vigneswaran quits party

SHAH ALAM: Former youth and sports parliamentary secretary S.A. Vigneswaran has quit the MIC over the move to force him to vacate his party Youth chief’s post.

Announcing his decision, Vigneswaran criticised party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu for humiliating him by accusing him of supporting others against the party chief.

“I have no more confidence in the party chief so I am quitting and more people will follow because in the coming weeks I will open the Pandora’s Box.

“I hereby declare that I shall effective from 3.45pm today (yesterday) quit as a member of MIC, a membership I have proudly held for the past 25 years,” Vigneswaran said at a press conference here yesterday.

Now, after this, can S Samy Vellu hold the MIC intact, and can he pursue to consolidate Malaysians in Malaysia especially those whom he represents.

We are beginning to see a decaying Barisan Nasional, and more leadership problems within its coalition parties.

It is now S Samy Vellu Move to stay pertinent and to continue MIC relevancy in Malaysian politics. Shall he stay or follow MCA Ong Ka Ting? Most agree he will stay and continue such as Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Has Sam ever contemplated that in this group of 630,000 members there may at least a single soul who can run MIC as the President, or have  the Indians retarded to a position of indentured labourers as when the first generation Indians arrived this shores, and their “gangani” or mandore under whom they worked was their demi-god. SA Vigneswaran threw a challenge at Sam, leave the party and prove whether it can survive or it will be buried. By Samy leaving, MIC will survive – after all it had survived from 1946, under 6 previous Presidents and Sam will be another passing figure.

Vigneswaran is polite when he says the fateful defeat of MIC in March 8 tsunami, was caused by an individual, but it is an open secret that Uncle Sam was responsible.

Ong Ka Ting and Chan Kong Choy, to say the least, had some love for MCA to quit. Does Samy love MIC?

There is a tendency among Indians to be concerned that if you leave an organisation, unmindful of the benefits you obtained, then you become ungrateful. Perish this thought. What has happened to your contribution.

Well as it goes Uncle Sam will get elected next year and the “gangani” system will be given a new breath of life.

După o analiză detaliată a situaţiei, m-am hotărât să mă retrag şi să preiau atribuţiile unui copil de şase ani, cu toate drepturile şi îndatoririle pe care le-am avut cândva, dar la care am renunţat cu prea mare uşurinţă.

Vreau să desenez cu creta colorată pe strada unde locuiesc, atunci când trec oameni maturi şi importanţi spre serviciu, şi să nu-mi pese de stresul lor în lupta cu minutele şi traficul care îi aşteaptă.

Vreau să fiu mândru de trotineta mea roşie, fără să mă interseze cât costă asigurarea pe anul viitor.

Vreau să cred sincer că bomboanele sunt mai bune decât banii pentru că le poţi mânca.

Vreau să stau întins la umbra unui copac, cu un pahar de limonadă în mână şi cu ochii la norii pufoşi care aleargă pe cer, întrebându-mă cu uimire de ce adulţii nu fac la fel.

Vreau să mă întorc în trecut, la vremurile când viaţa era simplă. Atunci când tot ce ştiam se rezuma la cele şapte culori, cinci poezii, zece cifre şi vocea mamei care mă chema la masă când nu îmi era foame.

Vreau înapoi, atunci când nu îmi păsa de cât de puţine lucruri ştiam pentru că nu ştiam cât de puţine ştiam.

Vreau să cred, ca odinioară, că totul pe lumea asta este fie gratuit, fie poate fi cumpărat cu preţul unei îngheţate la pahar.

Ce s-a întâmplat cu timpul când aveam impresia că moartea este un concept de poveste, că doar împăraţii bătrâni mor pentru a face loc pe tron prinţilor tineri căsătoriţi cu prinţese câştigate în ultima zmeiadă?

Unde sunt anii când mi se părea că tot ce ţi se putea întâmpla mai rău în lume era să nu fii ales în echipa lui Menică repetentul, atunci când jucam fotbal în spatele şcolii?

Vreau să mă reîntorc la vremea când toţi copiii citeau cărţi folositoare, când muzica era neotravită, când televiziunea era pentru ştiri şi emisiuni de familie, fără sex explicit şi violenţă implicită la fiecare zece secunde.

Vreau desene animate cu Donald Duck, peripeţiile echipajului Speranţa navigând cu Toate pânzele sus şi pe mama citindu-mi Povestiri Istorice de Alexandru Mitru.

Vreau să-l aştept iar cu emoţie sinceră pe Moş Crăciun.

Ce bine era când credeam că toată lumea din jur este fericită deoarece eu eram fericit!

Promit solemn că, imediat ce o să-mi reiau atribuţiile de copil, îmi voi petrece după-amiezile căţărându-mă în copaci, călărind bicicleta vărului Cristi şi citind Robinson Crusoe ascuns în coliba din ramuri şi frunze de fag, în spatele grădinii.

Îmi iau angajamentul că nu o să îmi pese de ratele casei, de facturile de telefon, curent, gaze, apă, gunoi, cablu TV şi Internet, asigurările pentru maşini, asigurările de sănătate, taxele anuale de proprietate, credit-carduri, iarba netaiată, computerul virusat şi faptul că maşina a început să vrea la mecanic.

Vă asigur că nu o să fiu pus în încurcătură când voi fi întrebat: Ce-o vrei să te faci când vei fi mare?, deoarece acum ştiu: vreau să fiu copil.

Gata cu plecatul la serviciu când ar trebui să dorm şi să-l visez pe Harap Alb, gata cu ştirile despre terorişti, bombe şi căderi de avioane.

Gata cu bârfele anturajului care nu-mi dau pace nici la biserică, gata cu hernia de disc, părul grizonat, ochelarii pierduţi, medicamentele scumpe şi dinţii din porţelan.

Gata, stop, cedez! Demisionez din funcţia de adult.

Vreau să cred în sinceritatea zâmbetelor, nobleţea vorbelor, o lume a cuvântului dat şi respectat, a dreptăţii, a păcii, a viselor împlinite, a imaginaţiei înnobilate, a îngerilor buni şi a omului după chipul şi asemănarea lui Dumnezeu.

Vreau să am iarăşi şase ani şi să stau în braţele lui Isus.

Fiţi voi mari şi importanţi, şi ocupaţi, şi îngrijoraţi.

Eu vreau să cresc mic!

Deşi a adunat numărul necesar de semnături, Partidul Liberal Democrat din Moldova renunţă până în 2009 să iniţieze acţiunea de modificare a Constituţiei, deoarece guvernarea comunistă solicită 340 000 de semnături în loc de 200 000 de semnături şi intimidează cetăţenii, care au semnat pentru iniţierea referendumului de modificare a Constituţiei, pentru alegerea şefului statului direct de către popor. Până în acest moment, PLDM a colectat 224 176 de semnături.

“Pe parcursul întregii campanii de colectare a semnăturilor, autorităţile au exercitat presiuni constante asupra membrilor Grupului de iniţiativă. Au existat mai multe cazuri de intimidare şi chiar de agresare fizică a membrilor Grupului de iniţiativă. Unii primari, reprezentanţi ai Partidului Comuniştilor, Partidului Democrat şi Partidului Popular Creştin-Democrat, invocînd indicaţiile date de conducerea formaţiunilor respective şi încălcînd legea, au refuzat să autentifice listele de subscripţie pentru iniţierea Referendumului”, se menţionează într-o declaraţia expediată presei de către PLDM.

“Chiar în toiul campaniei de colectare a semnăturilor pentru iniţierea Referendumului, guvernarea comunistă a declanşat o amplă acţiune de intimidare şi persecutare pe criterii politice a membrilor PLDM. Mii de oameni din toate raioanele republicii au fost chemaţi la procuratură pentru a da explicaţii de ce au aderat la partid”.

“Cu 10 zile înainte de finalizarea campaniei de colectare, Comisia Electorală Centrală a lăsat să se înţeleagă că, pentru iniţierea Referendumului constituţional, sunt necesare 340 000 de semnături, deşi articolul 141 din Constituţie prevede expres că, pentru iniţierea modificării Legii Supreme prin referendum, sunt suficiente semnăturile a cel puţin 200 000 de cetăţeni”, atenţionează PLDM.

“Poziţia CEC, confirmată şi prin răspunsul din 21 iunie curent la adresarea oficială a Partidului Liberal Democrat din Moldova, nu poate fi calificată altfel decât un semnal clar că regimul comunist este pregătit să utilizeze toate posibilităţile sistemului pentru a împiedica cetăţenii să-şi exercite dreptul la iniţiativa de modificare a Constituţiei prin referendum”.

“Cu toate acestea, în condiţiile în care obstacolele create de guvernare vor lipsi acţiunea noastră de finalitate juridică, iar represaliile politice împotriva semnatarilor devin iminente, PLDM a luat decizia de a nu depune listele cu semnături la Comisia Electorală Centrală”.

Liberal democraţii îşi argumentează decizia prin faptul că pun “interesul şi securitatea cetăţenilor mai presus decât interesele politice proprii”.

Amintim că la 23 februarie, liberal democraţii au convocat la Chişinău o Adunare a cetăţenilor, unde cei circa 5000 de participanţi au ales Grupul de iniţiativă pentru iniţierea Referendumului republican privind modificarea Constituţiei.
