Mars and Saturn conjunct exactly on Wednesday, July 10, 2008 at 2:10 PM EDT at Virgo 5′26

Mars and Saturn conjunct exactly on Wednesday, July 10, 2008 at 2:10 PM EDT at Virgo 5'26"

As Mars and Saturn conjunct, we are learning patience and persistence. To learn anything, we have to be willing to make mistakes, to start at a level where we have no proficiency at all. Children learn all kinds of new things because they don't mind if they don't get it right the first time. They'll just do it over! And over, and over... But as adults, if we judge our initial results as not being good-enough, we give up. We rarely give ourselves the time to improve, slowly, with practice.

The combination of Mars and Saturn can be a time when we find the discipline to focus-- with all our energy -- on whatever task is at hand, regardless of how complicated or difficult. We can practice until we can do it -- perfectly.

As Mars and Saturn conjunct in early Virgo (which means they share the same degree and appear together and blend energies), you can feel greater resistance if you act independently or take initiative. This can be frustrating... Will the details and small-stuff criticisms ever end?? Will you ever see your way through the forest??? Yet it is also an excellent opportunity to learn and practice grounding techniques. We are all "psychic" healers when we release our fears and practice patiently. We all sense our impressions, yet we try to hide from what we know. The more you edit your knowledge and desires, the less energy you may have as you edit yourself into apathy. The value of the conjunction in Virgo is that slowing your pace can dispel doubts and encourage you to trust in your knowledge and abilities. And as you rely on yourself and succeed, you can start to break through old resistance and doubt that has held you back.

This week, how can you bring more of your authentic self to your job and enjoy the service you provide by performing your routine daily tasks? If you are not "owning" your energy, envision more energy in your solar plexus or 3rd chakra by trusting in your willpower to carry you through despite current slowdowns or obstacles that may seem like certain failure.

If your intention is to help and heal others, you can find plenty of centered energy now. If your intention is to get as much as you can, life can seem ground to a halt and you can the feeling that you just don't want to do anything can start taking hold. One way to increase your energy is to start being active. Virgo loves regular exercise and this is a great time to start or resume an exercise routine. Movement is healing. Movement stimulates your intuition. Movement is the key to balance if you've been sitting, reading, working, and find yourself with piles more to do. So get up and start moving any way you can. And you'll enjoy yourself as long as you don't turn it into a competition.

Which brings us to the real clue to how to manage this week's Mars-Saturn conjunction, but i'll leave that for the next Newsletter.

The First Quarter Moon is overnight Wednesday/Thursday and there will be a Newsletter!

Wishing you abundant love and success,
:-)

(anp/afp/sps)

I heard about the confirmation of water of mars pretty soon after it went public after spending an entire afternoon reading newspapers cover-to-cover, but I learned about it from my friend Alex. Not one mention of it in the news.

And you know what? Mainstream media has failed me again: May 22 (yes, over a month ago) Japanese team of physicists Yoshiaki Arata et al. proved incontrovertibly that cold fusion is totally real.

Arata demonstrated what he refers to as "solid nuclear fusion" in front of 60 including reporters, people from universities and companies in Japan, and a gaijin.

The story goes, "spillover-deuterium" causes a "new kind of energy" which creates a double-structure cathode that is used to create a totally whack amount of energy and wicked-ass pressure which can compensate for the relatively frigid 25 degrees of the Système Internationale standard room temperature.

The especially wicked part is that the energy being produced by this cathode and "Pd[palladium]-black" is significantly greater than could possibly be created by chemical reaction alone.

Deuterium gas forced into an cell containing palladium (in zirconium oxide, ArOv2-Pd). According to Arata, huge amounts of the deuterium is absorbed by the palladium which brings the deuterium nuclei close enough together to fuse.

One of the eyewitnesses, Osaka University's professor Akito Takahashi, wrote,

Arata and Zhang demonstrated very successfully the generation of continuous excess energy (heat) [sic] from ZrOv2-nano-Pd sample powders under Dv2 gas charging and generation of helium-4 ... The demonstrated live data looked just like the data they reported in their published papers [J. High Temp. Soc. Jpn, Feb. and March issues, 2008). This demonstration showed the the method is highly reproducible.

Arata, on the other hand, took the success a little more philosophically:

I always stay on guard not to be too possessed by my own current knowledge. History has shown up repeatedly, for example, the foolishness of denying heliocentricism, which resulted from individuals adhering too strongly to their own knowledge or to what was common sense in the past.

Apparently this 4th of July, Saturn, Mars, and the moon will align. On Friday Saturn and Mars will align just to the left of the bright star Regulus. On Saturday the moon will join, making an even brighter line. On July 6, the trio will form a scalene triangle . In the following days after that, the Moon will exit, stage left, leaving Mars and Saturn behind. By the 10th, the two planets will be converging for their closest encounter in the next 14 years, and will only be 3/4ths of a degree apart.

Hmm. Interesting what lies in space. Well I hope everyone has a good 4th of July.

Drawing on soil data from the five missions to Mars before the current Phoenix Lander and comparing it to information collected in Earth’s driest places, the scientists concluded that water must have fallen from above, not welled up from below, as has been thought.

"The soil acts as a sort of an imperfect record of climate change," said Ronald Amundson, UC Berkeley professor of ecosystem sciences and the study’s lead author. "We can study the chemistry of the soil and extract information about climate history."

Amundson’s key observation is that Martian soil has a layer of sulfates sitting on top of chlorides. That’s a pattern consistent with water moving downward from the atmosphere to the regolith in places on Earth.

Conservative fundamentalists (or any religion) scare me. Actually, any fundamentalists/extremests scare me. Check out this piece of mindless drivel: A Waste of Taxpayer Money by Rob Hood

By this logic, all scientific research should stop, because our 4 year olds already know the answers.

Where did life come from? God spoke it into existence.

What are the basic laws of science, chemistry, mathematics, etc? Who cares, God makes it work.

Why do people die of cancer, AIDS and other diseases? Because God wants them to (for one reason or another).

How will we survive global warming? No problem, God will fix it.

Maybe this guy is, on his own, proof that evolution is false - natural selection should have emptied his end of the gene pool long ago.

BTW - don't get the idea that I am anti-religion, because I am not. I am against mindless application of dogma (religious or scientific).

The above linked article seems to suggest that if life is found on Mars that somehow religions will have to adapt and change their scripture to fit the new discovery. If they find life on Mars I will say the same thing about life here on Earth. "God did it."

My name is Sam and like many of you who have discovered this web site, I own Auction Rate Securities. Morgan Stanley issued them to me as a cash equivalent and an alternative to money market accounts and Certificates of Deposits. Morgan Stanley also told me that the Auction Rate Securities had daily liquidity, which was the reason I ultimately purchased them.

A sizable portion of my life savings are locked into these securities, preventing me from purchasing a home and not allowing me to make important personal and business decisions. Furthermore, I have the student loan Auction Rate Securities, which are potentially the worst of the bunch.

Your story likely has threads of similarities to mine. You are surely just as angry as I, and you are wondering whether to wait for the crisis to resolve itself, hire an attorney, or join a class action lawsuit, or pursue some other path. I have created this forum as a way for those of us who own these securities to share information and discuss ideas. If you would like to share your story or your thoughts with this community, email me at sam@samsolovey.com.

Since I have a significant amount of money in these securities, I have been working with multiple attorneys about an appropriate strategy for my situation. I have also communicated with public relations professionals and media contacts to determine a coordinated plan for drawing more public awareness about this crisis and to address the needs of those who have been financially victimized by brokerage firms who issued these securities.

But more important than any attorney or journalist is you and your voice. This forum is a grass roots effort to bring together everyone (individuals, families, small businesses, corporations, etc) who wants to get their money out of these Auction Rate Securities NOW, and not tomorrow, next month, next year, or on the maturity date, which in my case is March 1, 2040.

Strength in numbers. Contact me today at sam@samsolovey.com - This web site is usually an informational tool for people buying and selling real estate. But I have decided to dedicate it to this Auction Rate Securities forum until the matter is resolved.

Call me "it," or call me "Allan Hills 84001," my given name-- even "Thing from Mars" will suit. Although I am only a rock and cannot answer, allow me this conceit of conscious identity for the space of these few pages, that I may speak for Mars, whence I traveled via chance and the laws of physics.

Of the twenty-eight Martian meteorites definitively identified to date (pub. 2005), I am by far the most ancient, and the only one to show, under microscopic examination, internal shapes and residues similar to those formed by primitive terrestrial bacteria. These findings have made me the most studied rock of all time. (p. 119)

...Astrobiologists insist that life on Mars, like the once-plentiful water on Mars, could simply have gone underground to avoid these dangers, and may yet be discovered, extant or extinct, through diligent pursuit. Astronomers agree, asserting that even if Mars ultimately proves void of life, its unique environment will continue to lure robotic and human explorers to its frozen shores.
One of my all-time favorites, Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land begins: "Once upon a time there was a Martian named Valentine Micheal Smith." It ends: "He left, and Mike pushed back his halo and got to work. He could see a lot of changes he wanted to make." I highly recommend reading the middle!!

*************

Eric Idle is hilarious in The Road to Mars:

Comedy is a serious business. Not being paid and being plunged into life-threatening situations had a sobering effect on Lewis. Nothing concentrates a man's mind more than the prospect of his imminent death, said Samuel Johnson. Lewis didn't mind dying onstage, but he hated being killed for it. He was a comedian, not a gladiator. So as soon as they were back in the Johnnie Rayand parked safely in Saturnian orbit, he called a conference.

"Okay, that's it for me," said Lewis

Alex looked up sharply. Was he quitting?

     "We're leaving. We're outta here."

     "The Road to Mars?"

     "Why not?"

     "What about bookings?"

"We'll play the Jovian moons and pick up a litle pocket money and then see if we can't hitch a cruise ship to Mars. Any votes against?"

     "Not me," said Alex.

     "Right then, passed nem. con."

     "Nem. what?"

"Latin," said Carlton, "nemine contradicente, unanimously, with one accord, with one voice, with one consent, one and all, nobody against."

"Ah, you mean both of us," said Alex.

     "And me," said Carlton.

Alex shook his head, warning Lewis. The tin man always thought he had a vote.

"Unfortunately, dear Carlton," said Lewis, "you do not have a vote."

     "Don't start," said Alex.

"I should have a vote, I am more intelligent than you," said Carlton.

"Well, you may be more intelligent than us, but sadly you lack testicles."

"I have tungsten carbide testicles," protested Carlton.

"Well, there you have it," said Lewis.

"Females don't have testicles and they have a vote."

"Females," said Lewis patiently, "despite being very strange in their own way, are human. That is why they have a vote and you do not."

     "It's not fair."

     "I didn't make the rules."

     "It's DNAcism."

     "Carlton, shut up."

"Okay," said Alex, "his vote counts half. That's two and a half to none. I declare the motion carried. The Road to Mars it is."

Blessed are the peacemakers. (p. 14-15)

Here's a reference to a rather obscure Martian story by Ray Bradbury, reknowned author of The Martian Chronicles:

The Fire Balloons (November 2002/2033)

First appeared as "…In This Sign" in Imagination, April 1951.

A missionary expedition of Episcopal priests from the United States anticipates sins unknown to them on Mars. Instead, they meet ethereal creatures glowing as blue flames in crystal spheres, who have left behind the material world, and thus have escaped sin.

This story appeared only in The Silver Locusts, the British edition of The Martian Chronicles, the 1974 edition from The Heritage Press, The "40th Anniversary Edition" from Doubleday Dell Publishing Group and in the 2001 Book-of-the-Month Club edition.
from Isaac Asimov's The Martian Way:

Rioz said, "They wouldn't like it. The Grounders, I mean. They're so used to their own lousy little world they wouldn't appreciate what it's like to float and look down on Saturn." He flipped his body slightly and began swaying back and forth about his center of mass, slowly, soothingly.

Long said, "Yes, I think so too. They're slaves to their planet. Even if they come to Mars, it will only be their children that can carry thousands of People and maintain their self-contained equilibrium for decades, maybe centuries. Mankind will spread through the whole Galaxy. But people will have to live their lives out on shipboard until new methods of inter-stellar travel are developed, so it will be Martians, not planet-bound Earthmen, who will colonize the Universe. That's inevitable. It's got to be. It's the Martian way."

Well, there is is. There was indeed ice on Mars. Or so we think. Phoenix, the robot that NASA sent to Mars several weeks ago, found evidences of Ice in form of bright spots that are beleived to have been Ice in a gazeous form couple millions years ago.

Well, these bright spots are what you could call Marsian Ice, do you see the little bright spots? These are traces of Ice that passed directly from a solid to gazeous state. They are visible in the lower right portion of that weird square. They are visible in one frame but not in the next, the perfect excuse to beleive its ice. NASA think that the finding of Ice is not particullarly extravagant considered that traces Ice is beleived to be found in abundance in the area that Phoenix is in. The lander still have two months to explore the surface of Mars and find more traces of prehistoric water.

Is there not one detail that you can share about your day? Compliment or complaint? “I’m fine, but traffic was a bitch.” “Not bad. We got a shipment of the new Blackberries in so were putting those in inventory.” “I’m fantastic! I just got a blow job from a meth head in the bus station!” Shit – share SOMETHING, for Christ’s sake.

I expressed my mounting frustration to my coworker and confidant, Patrick. I told him what a frustrating thing it was to hear that their days were just “good.” I explained that I know women probably talk too much with more detail than in necessary, but really – one word? I asked him to keep that in mind when talking to his wife about his day. About an hour later, Patrick IMed me with this conversation:

Patrick: My wife phoned and said "How's your day"

Ashleigh: hahaha.

Patrick: I said "Good. How about you?"

Ashleigh: UGH!

Patrick: Does that count?

Ashleigh: It's the lack of any discerning detail. Any day can be "good". I say "Good. I did the XYZ Project this morning without a hitch."

Patrick: I tried. My brain's just not quick enough.

Ashleigh: I try to usually as questions that require more than one word. Or ask two questions so I get more than one word. How was your day? Did you talk to Mike about the party at his house for the 4th?

Sometimes it backfires though if they have the same answer. Like, are you having a good day? Did you get your bonus check? "Yes". Fuck you.

Patrick: LOL. Yes, that's good. "How was your day" invokes an automated response. The reptilian part of my brain answers before I have a chance to process the question.

Ashleigh: Well, get out of here, Patrick McElizard.

I’m trying ladies. Please know…I am trying.

In a breakthrough that likely provides scientists with their best opportunity ever to investigate extraterrestrial life, NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has apparently spotted liquid ice on Mars. The little patches completely disappearing over the course of a few days is perfect evidence that it's ice.

but an interesting question arises that this patch can be salt undergoing sublimation.but scientists at NASA are now assured since they have complete soil-layer profile of extended trench,

"By rasping to icy soil, the robotic arm on Phoenix proved it could flatten the layer where soil meets ice, exposing the icy flat surface below the soil. Scientists can now proceed with plans to scoop and scrape samples into Phoenix's various analytical instruments. Scientists will test samples to determine if some ice in the soil may have been liquid in the past during warmer climate cycles".
