So, you are the marketing manager of your firm, and you’ve finally decided to pull the trigger

So, you are the marketing manager of your firm, and you've finally decided to pull the trigger and hire the search engine optimization company that you've been talking to for months. The budget has been cleared, the SEO firm is ready to start, and it should be just a matter of time before you start seeing a huge uptick in business. Right?

Not so fast.

An experienced search engine optimization company will tell you that an ill-planned campaign can be a non-starter from day one. This usually happens when there is no clear understanding of what will be required of the client to make the project run smoothly.

What follows is a list of just a few of the things that your search engine optimization company will need from you in order for the company to get its job done as effectively and quickly as possible. It's a good idea to consider these things before you sign the contract - because a stalled campaign will cost you money, even if it is just lost opportunity cost.

Access to and Control of Your Website

You may be ready to do whatever it takes to take the steps necessary for a successful SEO campaign. Your IT team, on the other hand, may have ultimate control of the website. This only makes sense - an internal IT team that controls the website knows the ins and outs and doesn't want anyone jeopardizing the functionality of the site. However, an SEO campaign will usually require extensive changes to the site - and you don't want to hit a brick wall when you bring recommended changes to the IT staff or ask them to give your search engine optimization company access to the testbed. Make sure that you have an understanding with them before you sign on with a firm, lest you suffer delays and internal strife.

Additionally, it is important that you can get access to either the log files of your website or to the current reporting platform. Before a search engine optimization company begins work on your site, you want to be sure that you have a baseline of current search referred traffic. Without this, you'll have nothing to brag about later - and no way to hold your firm accountable if results do not turn out as planned.

For more on achieving buy-in from different departments within your organization before embarking on an SEO campaign, please see this article.

Control of Your Website Copy

If internal politics are such that you have to consult with every department in your organization in order to get website copy changed, it's imperative that you make sure you have this process streamlined before you bring in your search engine optimization company.

There are many reasons why several departments may be involved in the content of your website. For example, mortgage brokers, medical offices, and investment firms (to name but a few) will almost certainly need to run copy changes through the legal department before they go live on your website. If your company sells complicated software, for example, the copy may need to be run by the developers to be verified for accuracy.

No matter how your internal politics work, make sure you are on the same page with all the people who will be involved in the copy approval process before you start the project.

Awareness of Current Code Limitations

Your prospective search engine optimization company should be able to look at how your website is constructed and let you know if there are limitations that may impede your ability to implement recommendations that can help your search engine optimization efforts.

For example, there are many CMS (Content Management Systems) that will not allow changes to be made that are beneficial to search engines. While many of the new systems are "SEO friendly," many of the older ones are not. Updating your CMS to one that allows changes to be made for maximum SEO benefit may incur additional costs. If your search engine optimization company has been around for a while, they should be able to steer you in the right direction and, indeed, help you and your IT team to switch to a more SEO friendly platform.

Change like this can sometimes be difficult - another reason why you must be committed to SEO and achieve the buy-in from your IT team before you embark on a campaign.

Time

The largest commodity that most marketing managers do not have is time. Frequently, there are innumerable campaigns running at once, and outsourcing SEO to a search engine optimization company may make you feel that it is done and off your plate. Alas, this is rarely the case. A good search engine optimization company will take the requisite time to learn as much about your business as it possibly can, but the fact remains that nobody knows your business as well as you do.

This means that you will have to be involved in the SEO process. If you can't dedicate an hour a week to offering feedback, approving changes, and making sure that the work being done is consistent with your overall message, there will be large delays in the project.

Set aside one hour per week to make sure everything is running smoothly. If you make SEO a back-burner issue after you have hired a search engine optimization company, you will lose money in opportunity cost (and very likely in project cost, since SEO is normally billed on a monthly basis).

Conclusion

Your chosen search engine optimization company, if you have done your due diligence, is ready to help you to maximize your exposure on the Internet and help you to reach your online goals. However, it is essential that you review the required resources and relationships before you sign on the dotted line. You will save yourself a lot of headaches and see results much more quickly if you do.

July 2, 2008 (Network World) With the economic downturn on everyone's mind, assumptions about job security come into question and everyone starts re-examining his skills. There are lots of valuable jobs performed in IT, but some skills are valued more highly than others. Here are my top seven skills that could help you not only keep that job, but also secure an even better new job, positioning you to work on the next generation of IT systems and software products in the era of Web-delivered online applications.

Web application design: I have a passion for great product design -- and for people who know how to do this really well. Designing a great Web application is very different from designing a great Web site.

User interface designers need to be able to work under challenging circumstances. Most people around them won't understand what they do, how they do it, when they should be brought in, what information and resources they need or how much work it takes to create not only a usable UI design but a useful one.

When I got held myself the list of over 3000 free internet directories, I was anxious to test them o

When I got held myself the list of over 3000 free internet directories, I was anxious to test them out as link building is most important step of proper SEO work. As the names of lot of them where not very credible, I made my visual selection and decided to submit only to some few hundred sites rather than systematically go to every site. It can be also very time consuming process as I was able to submit 20-30 sites per hour. Several of listed sites where not free and still wanted me to pay them, some of the sites refused to accept my URL even there was nothing wrong with it and Captcha verification didn’t work on some sites.

I also avoided those directories where I didn't find suitable category for my link.

Around two third of the sites listed on this over 3000 directory list worked properly. As I didn’t had time to write all the sites down, following sites sent me confirmation emails: FreshDIR.info, ONdir.info, SeaDir.info, BIGDIR.info, Kinds.biz Free Link Directory, A Free Directory, Zepteo.com, Directoryswirl, Kahuki Network, DBUJ Free Directory, Web Directory, M-S-N.ORG Web Directory, Fast Reviews Directory, Link Directory, Mylinkdirectories, Add Good Sites, Optimize Directory, Free Add URL Directory Index, Free Website Directory (UK), DigDirectory.Net, Links Directory (nice design), Pro Link Directory, DreamDir.com, Free Online Directory, Thales Directory, The Free Directory UK British orientated web site links, Worlddir24, Dir Lister, Myriadwebs, Gotartans, FreeWebLinkDirectory.info, SubmitSiteNow.info, TheGeneralDirectory, Welcome Links, Directory Now, Powerfull Directory and Directory Syndicate.

With Kahuki Network, DBUJ Free Directory, Web Directory it suppose to take up to 30 days if you are not willing to pay them but even the 30 day period has been long gone, my link still isn’t live. I should I believe that they will put my link live within 24h if I pay them?

With DigDirectory.Net it’s same, even they promised 24 h service and I submitted them 29th of May, 2008.

Fast Reviews Directory does not match to their brand as it’s really not fast as my link was submitted to them 3rd of June and still does not appear after a month.

Optimise Directory sent me a verification email which showed pop up ads and sure, my link does not appear anywhere.

Waste of time was also The Free Directory UK British orientated web site links, Free Add URL Directory Index, Free Online Directory, Dig Directory, Pro Link Directory and Dream Dir.

I was surprised that gotartans.com, welcomelinks.info and dirlister.com started to send me visitors and in June I have got 10 visitors from gotartans, 7 from welcomelinks and two from dirlister. Also myriadwebs.net, directory.zepteo.com, dirsubmitsite.com and linkdirectory.com has sent me one-two visitors in June.

From Link Directory owners Tom Dahne & Paul Martin, I got nice personal service email.

Google has been indexed Dir Submit Site, Splur, DirLister, GoTartans, M_S_N.ORG Web Directory, NetInsert, ThalesDirectory, WorldDir and Link Directory.

Directory sites like Directory Nerve and WorldDir with RSS feed were indexed very quickly using their feeds.

Link directories are extremely profitable business for webmasters as those will be sold around $2500-$5000 price range within a year. Establishing such kind of site is easy, dot info name does not cost much and getting it to the market using Webmasters talk Sitepoint forums is relatively quick and non cost process. There is several open source code available and you can host such kind of site using free hosting services. As far there are people willing to pay to get linked and AdSense seems to be doing little bit money as well, its viable business model.

I tested the effect of linking with my Online Dating Community site, where I never considered SEO to be viable marketing model but without any money I do not had possibility to implement other marketing strategies as well. As this site is revenue source is Google Adsense, why anyone coming from Google natural search should click on Google ads in my site?

However, when I was listed in Google on 55th position with keyword “dating community” before, after my linking efforts this position was gone and now I’m listed in position 190 with keyword “community dating”. Both of those positions haven’t got me any visitors, so I’m happier getting those from mentioned directories, dating related affiliate sites and online classifieds until I will get MMS picture upload sorted out, will travel and ask people personally to join.

For those who are accepting project proposals to have 5000, 10 000 links built within a weeks, I would consider those bids to be meaningless or SPAM. But getting 20-30 high quality links in some directories is worth of effort. It should take only few hours if you know, which of those directories you should submit.

It is very crucial for any online business to improve the accessibility of their Web site to the online public. Considering that search engines are the prime Web tool to assist Web surfers regarding information lookup, optimizing your site should be their paramount concern to reflect a successful venture.

Search engine optimization (SEO) techniques can help Webmasters boost their site traffic, thus, providing for a more successful venture amidst the online competition. Here are some tips and tricks on how to get it done.

Keywords

The gist of SEO is the keywords found in your Web site. Search engines make use of keywords to look for information on the World Wide Web. When a match is found, it will be listed down in search engine results according to their rank. The more keyword is found in your site, then the higher your rank would be.

When optimizing your site with keywords, you have to come up with different variations that will reflect your online business. The more keywords you use, the wider your coverage would be. You also need to integrate these keywords into different areas of your site without ruining the overall content, carefully avoiding keyword spamming so as not to get banned in the process.

You may want to use keywords in creating your site address, so that it will reflect your online content. The title tag, as well as the Meta description tag should also contain these keywords since these are the main areas that search engines will look first for possible matches.

Links

Another SEO tips is to come up with a strategy to place your site address in different sites across the World Wide Web in the form of links. These are clickable texts or images will automatically redirect an individual to the specified address on the anchor tag. You need to spread around links across the Internet that will point directly to your site to increase your page rank for better search engine results.

One method of building links with other site is to correspond with Webmasters and propose a link exchange. You might also want to subscribe to Web directories for free. In this case, a paid service will guarantee a quality service, if you can spare some funds for it.

You can also create keyword-rich articles and publish to different sites on the World Wide Web. This tip uses the power of keywords so that the article can be picked up by search engines, as well as links embedded into it to propagate your site address improving your overall page rank.

The tips above are just the basics of search engine optimization and will serve well those Webmasters who are just starting out their trade. Note that these tips will not guarantee an overnight result, even if you invest more time and effort into it. With a little patience and dutifully increasing your knowledge with SEO, you can practically see the success of your online venture sooner than you think.

Businesses have been urged to consider the various ways in which they can maximise their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies.

According to Mike Grehan of the ClickZ Network, marketers should consider new ideas as well as using the tried and tested SEO basics when implementing a digital campaign.

Reporting from the ad:tech Singapore event, Mr Grehan said that question-and-answer sessions at the conference yielded a number of interesting ideas for marketers to try in their own work.

The first of these is the notion that to make an SEO campaign a success, it is vital for companies to speak the same language as their target audience by conducting thorough research into relevant keywords and integrating these into ads, websites and links.

Another major point highlighted by Mr Grehan was the need to integrate offline and online marketing to maximise returns. He warned against a silo mentality and urged firms to use keywords also utilised in offline ads.

It is also vital to test and optimise landing pages for those visiting websites from search engines and to find out which tests work best for different types of pages, Mr Grehan urged.

And when it comes to analysing the success of SEO strategies, it may be best to use a customised reporting tool that does not provide more information than is needed by the marketer, he added, explaining that many of the best applications can be configures to align with firms' business goals.

According to Eric Enge of Search Engine Watch, it is important for marketers to follow search engine rules on how they deem certain sites to be trustworthy or not by looking at issues such as duplicate content and pages that may look like spam.

He also noted that regularly delivered fresh content can also work wonders for SEO marketing campaigns.

Serious Entrepreneur Link Building Test Fails. Well the Serious Entrepreneur Link Building experiment was actually a success. It proved out what we know to be fact in the SEO world. Link Building out to poorly rated sites or sites with no rank will kill your organic rankings.

The serious entrepreneur provided links out to two friends who have sites that have no rank in order to evaluate the devastation (for the public) that building links out to poorly ranked sites will cause.

Serious Entrepreneur went from an organic rank of 3 this morning, to virtually disappearing from the search enging rankings. That is Serious Entrepreneur dropped to a lowly page 4 result.

The link building failure of Serious Entrepreneur happened within minutes of posting a new blog with the 2 poorly ranked links in it...and the Serious Entrepreneur never recovered for the day.

So, what does the Serious Entrepreneur learn? Good SEO practices can be destroyed by stupidity. How many times have you wondered "why is my site not ranking? I've got links out to all of my friends and associates."

Well, the serious entrepreneur just validated the fact that linking out to poorly ranked websites will kill any of your SEO work.

For this test, the serious entrepreneur will link out to a ranked website for evaluation. Keep in mind that linking out is never as good as trusted links coming back to your site.

In today’s scenario, there will be hardly any organization that is serious in generating greater revenues for their company and will not has any website. In most cases many organization feel that by mere having a website designed in the most exclusive manner will generate revenues for them. However, this is not the case. Even the best designed website will not have enough visitors if it does not have good search engine rankings.

One of the most effective methods to have good rankings is getting SEO or we may say getting a website optimized and making them search engine friendly.

Many other online marketing can help you avail good amount of web traffic very quickly however if a company is targeting long term goals, there is no better option then Search Engine Optimization.

This method is a slow process and takes any where from few weeks to few months to get the results however there isn’t any technique so far that can be cost effective yet as well as most effective for obtaining desired results.

Many a consumer, visit the website through search engines by using a combination of various keywords that best describe the product or the service they want to buy.

Now the question arises what step should be taken by the website owners. They should get their website optimized using qualitative SEO services.

Once the targeted rankings are achieved, there will be huge increase in the visitors of the website and not just any visitor but the one who is looking to buy the products or services offered by your website.

SEO consultant has expertise and knows various methods to optimize the website. They understand which method to employ as every website has a different requirement. However if you have a very limited budget and it will be difficult for you to pay for the SEO services then you can conduct research related to the same and can implement some simple methods on your own.

What ever you may choose, ensure that you educate yourself with the basics of SEO so that if you employ a consultant you may be able to easily identify with the techniques that he will use. This will also help you to make certain that the consultant is making use of most effective and ethical practice.

Also, the other technique you may apply to get the rankings is to put the relevant, keyword rich content on your website. The content should be so informative and lucrative that it may catch the attention of the reader in the first place and a reader would want to pay visit again, whenever in need of the same information again.

Submission of the website in the various web directories is also an effective way. Such techniques will definitely of be real help in securing good ranking in not just one but in almost all the search engines.

One of the key concerns for any fledgling start-up is overload. Too many users trying to get at your data is one thing, but dealing with the onslaught of notifications and data pings from connecting services can be quite another.

A new start-up called Gnip is trying to solve this problem by acting as the middleman. Got a service like Twitter that's getting attacked in a thousand different directions by services trying to get at that data? Sending any new bits of information to Gnip will keep that attack coming on their end instead of yours, which will hopefully keep your service running a lot smoother, no matter how many folks are using it. ReadWriteWeb is calling it a "Grand Central Station for the social Web."

In a perfect world, services that used this system could open up their APIs a little to encompass more activity, leading to faster third-party tools that take advantage of that data. Users would also be getting faster notifications and conceivably less downtime due to overload.

Many SEO firms are running out of ways to draw in large clients, especially when so many offer littl

Many SEO firms are running out of ways to draw in large clients, especially when so many offer little to no value over the next firm. This dilemma has led to growth in the "special services" sector of SEO-based specialties, especially in the past year. These offerings can be a great tool to improve your rankings, and set an agency apart. But beware: there are some unscrupulous agencies using these in ways that can sometimes be a threat to your rankings.

Large companies are tired of seeing the standard pitch: "Since we optimized this and that site, we can do it just as well -- if not better -- for you." They've seen it before: the top team delivers the pitch, but what they wind up with is an account manager who is either fresh out of school or has little to no search experience. Thus, they're learning at your expense.

Many of these firms must keep their best people on their top-level clients, or risk losing them from an overall lack of responsiveness and/or competence. This dilemma has given birth to new and sometimes unscrupulous offerings.

Content is King

Many times, when a person is researching SEO, they come across some basics, which they keep on the side while speaking to firms. Primarily, "content is king" is a commonly spoken-about issue that is very difficult to address.

With the content services segment of SEO at an all-time high in terms of cost, short cuts are commonly used. Some firms still sell the idea that content from other sites can be used to raise rankings. So they may scrape content from competing sites and place this content on the client's sites.

Search engines, especially Google, have a technical ability to pattern-match content across any site in their index. Thus, they usually know where the content is from and who deserves credit for the content.

Some of these content services can be disguised as comment, review, and consumer updates, to name a few. They'll act as a repository for one client and place the same reviews and or information on competing sites in order to raise their presence in search engines. Not only is this misleading, but many times a new site will get involved with such a service just to lose credit for all of that hard-earned content.

The client has no idea what's happening, while some other site that has been around a bit longer may be taking the credit. The agency wins in both directions: both parties are paying them, and they did what they promised.

Generating Links

Links are the second most talked about form of SEO strategy. Most large agencies will typically push a client to use paid links, a strategy that is heavily discouraged by engines such as Google. If abused, this can result in removal of the site from the index, which may cost a client a huge amount of traffic and revenue for an unknown period of time.

The simplest form of these links are easily detected, because they have several common factors. They're usually posted on the navigational parts of the page, left, right, or footer. Secondarily they also tend to appear on every page of the site.

Among other algorithms that determine compatibility, this can be an easy identifier. That doesn't mean you should rush to remove the links in your footer from a sister site. It just means if a high enough volume appears, it could have negative results.

There are certainly legitimate ways for SEO firms to offer content and linking services. They can be very valuable additions to your SEO strategy. As with any tactic, it's important to understand exactly what the agency is offering to do for you, and to understand any risks involved with what they are planning to do.

Link building helps your search engine optimization for the keyword that you want to be number one

Link building helps your search engine optimization for the keyword that you want to be number one in the searches and it gives your website presence on the Internet.

However, most people don't know how to begin a link building campaign. Where do you look? Who should you link to? Should you do reciprocal linking? Do you even know what reciprocal linking is? Where should you place the reciprocal link? How do you insert the reciprocal link into the HTML of your web page? Did you build your own website or did you pay to have it done for you? Do you have to pay in order to insert your reciprocal links? The questions go on and on. There are many resources where you can learn how to start a link building campaign. We can never overstate how important links are. They are considered a vote for your page by the search engines. If the only place on the Internet that your website is mentioned is on your own website, then you have lost the battle before even firing a shot. You cannot sit idly by and expect people to find your site if it cannot be found anywhere. You need to do a submission to search engines and directories. SEO Business Solutions has state of the art submission software and we will get your website submitted to the major search engines and thousands of other search engines and web directories (including DMOZ). The open directory project. That is only the beginning. You have to find other resources that will point to you without you pointing to them. We are not saying that a reciprocal link isn't worthwhile. There is still room for reciprocal links. They are simply not as valuable as inbound links. We will give you a heads up. Go to Google and type "free link directories" in the search box. You are going to get thousands upon thousands of link directories. If you are beginning your link building campaign, then you need to concentrate on the free links that do not require a reciprocal link. You can find hundreds of link directories from PR 6 all the way to no PR. However, don't concentrate your link building campaign only on the link directories with the high PR's. This will not look natural to the search engines. You should submit your website for inclusion in approximately 250 to 300 link directories per month, until you have your website linked all over the Internet. Once you begin to run out of options for inbound links, you can begin working on reciprocal links.
Once your website has all of those links pointing to it, you will begin to see it moving up in the search results for your given keyword or keyword phrases. Remember to include the keywords you are optimizing for in your link. Some directories won't let you do this, but most will. After all, if you are optimizing for "widgets" and you don't have widgets anywhere in your inbound links, you have ignored one of the most important reasons for linking in the first place.

I have completely fallen in love with my iPhone. As far as I can tell it comes as close to the perfectly designed device as possible and it seems like I’m discovering cool usability aspects all the time. Things like when you get a text message with a phone number or email address you get a little blue arrow that lets you email/call or add that to a contact. Doing that on my Blackjack is a pain. And it got me thinking. Is designing for the small screen more fun than designing full fledged applications on the desktop?

Part of me wonders if that was one of appealing things of first moving to the web browser. Creating desktop applications was always kind of tough but customizing them was VERY tough. You were basically stuck with the same component set that everyone else was. But in the browser you could do whatever you wanted. You could get creative with new kinds of UIs and you could basically make components and applications look however you wanted them to look. The browser had a lot more freedom than desktop applications.

In a study conducted by ComScore Media Metrix in 200, shows that 37% of people who use the Internet use Google first to mine information from the web. Yahoo comes in next with 30% and the rest uses AskJeeves, AOL, MSN and other search engines. The goal of Internet sites is to get indexed with search engines, preferably Google and Yahoo since these are the two biggest search engines in the Internet and are the biggest source of traffic.

Now you need to keep in mind that there are millions of pages on the Internet and getting to the first page of search engines is the ultimate goal of any Internet marketing campaign. It just like on the busby seo challenge you must put your site on the top. Several studies have already shown that 90% of Internet users do not go beyond the first page of search results. Those in the first few pages of results are pages with the higher page ranking, so in order to get more people to go to your website, you need to increase page rank. In laymen’s term, you need to be more popular.

Now, increasing your page rank is not an easy task. There are two methods by which this can be done – through search engine optimization (SEO), and search engine marketing (SEM). Some people might think these are the same, well, they are very similar but the control that advertisers have over customers’ landing page makes the biggest difference. I know that’s a little too technical so I will try expound more on this.

SEO differs from SEM in that it uses the organic or the natural flow of traffic from the Internet. It involves link building and back linking. SEO professionals focus not only on the number of links to the website, but also on the quality of these links. How many people are actually buying from your online store? How many people directly search for your site? Are you providing content which are relevant and useful for your visitors? These are some of the questions that a SEO professional needs to address, not to mention the easy retrieval of information from a website.

Now SEM, has higher costs because you will need to pay for click costs (also known as a pay-per-click campaign) and management costs. In this methods, sites can buy text links to their site from a website with higher page rank and more traffic. Let’s say you want more people to visit your online store, you can buy space at ebay so that your link can be displayed on their site. Because there are more people visiting ebay, then the chances of seeing your advertisement is higher and there is a greater chance of people visiting and buying from your site.

In the Internet world, your competitors are also your allies. Even if you are selling the same products and services, your competitors are willing to help you with traffic as long as they are compensated. The Internet has reinvented the way business is done nowadays and it is bound to continue in the next few years.

It’s the timeless question: how do you get other sites to link to you? The most commonly discu

It's the timeless question: how do you get other sites to link to you? The most commonly discussed ways are reciprocal linking (swapping links) and buying links. Yet there's another important tool for building links that should be a part of your toolbox: distributing content in exchange for one-way inbound links.

Comparison with Other Linking Methods

• Reciprocal Linking: The big advantage of content distribution over swapping links is that the links built are one-way, and therefore presumably more valuable. Of course, reciprocal links still have value, but relying primarily on them might hamper your SEO efforts.

• Indirect Reciprocal Links: I link my site A to your site, so you link your site to my site B. The problems are that this can be a lot of work, and also, Google can detect indirect links if you do it more than once with the same group of sites, which might make your linking arrangements look like a link farm.

• Paid Links: The problem with paid links is 1) the costs add up; 2) search engines are getting better and better at discounting paid links. According to Matt Cutts' blog, "I wouldn't be surprised if search engines begin to take stronger action against link buying in the near future...link-selling sites can lose their ability to give reputation (e.g. PageRank and anchortext)."

Kinds of Content to Distribute

• Articles: This is the essential kind of content distribution, to the point that many people consider content distribution simple as "article marketing." However, you're missing out on a few other sources of links if you only do articles.

• News blurbs: A lot of news-style sites will only reprint pieces of a couple of paragraphs. The good news is that often enough the whole point of these news blurbs is to include links to other sites, in a sort of "look what we've found" kind of way, a la Slashdot.org

• Press Releases: There are some sites that aggressively reprint press releases. A press release is like an article, only in a very specific press release format, and frankly that's not that enjoyable to read. I don't know why some sites are so head-over-heels over press releases, but, hey, that's their business. The good news is that even if you can't write and don't want to hire a writer, press releases (at least basic ones) are pretty easy to do.

• Tools, games and other webware: Sites with popular tools, software, Flash games and other webware often let other sites use it in exchange for a link. The big potential downside is technical support.

• Images: Images, especially charts and photographs, are important forms of content on the web. If you have great images on your site and people ask you to use them on their sites, require a backlink in exchange. The problem with images is that they are so easily stolen. Stolen words can be uncovered with a web search. You could try to watermark images with a copyright symbol, URL, and the link requirement. But in the process you'd make the image much less desirable.

• Web Design Templates: These have been freely distributed for a long time. Yet they are even more easily stolen than images. Also, if you embed a link in the footer of a web template, what you'll get back are sitewide links, which are often thought to be filtered out in search engines.

Maximizing Content Distribution

Links'Effectiveness: Anchor Text

You need optimized anchor text to rank high for any competitive keyword. That means you need your target keyword in the anchor text, and very importantly, variants of the target keyword (too many links with the exact same anchor text may be filtered). The problem is that some sites by default don't let you choose the anchor text of the link to your site. So you need to: 1) look for sites that do reprint content with optimized anchor text; 2) specifically ask for your target anchor text to be used. Also, do keep in mind that a true natural linking structure will require you to have a number of links that are not anchor-text-optimized, typically with the URL as the anchor text.

How to Find Sites

Finding sites to submit content is the biggest challenge. You can start by asking around to any other webmasters you already have a relationship with. Next, web-search. The classic method is "submit article" + [keyword]. Most of the sites you find this way won't be good candidates, which is why this can be a bit labor-intensive. I use offshore labor for this step, as well as a program that will sort and store all the search results into a spreadsheet; otherwise it might not be worth it. Then again, the same would be true for finding reciprocal linking partners.

Ethical Issues & Best Practices

Golden rule: remember that there's a human being who has to approve your article for submission.

• Read and adhere to all submission guidelines.

• Avoid automation. There's almost always some detail of submission that requires a human eye: a multitude of html formatting requirements, changing site themes, etc.

• Don't submit by email unless specifically instructed. Using a contact form prevents possible sp@m accusations.

• Only approach websites that request content submissions.

• Don't misrepresent reprint content as original.

• Don't submit the same content too often. After about two hundred reprints, a lot of people will be seeing the same thing over and over again and possibly complaining.

In short, as SEO gets more competitive, having more and more linking methods at your disposal gets more and more important. Don't overlook this important tool.

With the rise in awareness in the public domain of the term SEO (search engine optimisation), SEO experts are now in great demand by ambitious website owners that want to increase targeted traffic to their websites. In order to generate leads, enquiries or sales via your website you need a professional that knows just how to get great results with a substantial ROI (return on investment).

SEO or search engine optimisation is the process of optimising a website in order to achieve top rankings on major search engines that attract vast numbers of searches every single day, which could be providing your website with lucrative sales.

Whilst it isn’t rocket science, search engine optimisation requires some hard work, smart strategy and patience, in order to achieve the substantial growth in targeted traffic that is possible for your business.

As more and more website owners become aware of SEO, it is vital that you have an online strategy to market your website effectively using an SEO expert with experience in successful campaigns.

Some of the more common methods of SEO are listed below, and if you follow these, you could be well on your way to increasing your targeted traffic.

Keyword Analysis

Often overlooked, this is the most critical stage of any SEO or internet marketing campaign or strategy. Knowing what your users are searching for around the world is vital to increasing targeted leads and turnover. If you are focusing on keywords that you think are important, instead of using professional tools to find out what users are physically typing into the major search engines, then you are wasting your time and money.

Analysing your keywords is of paramount importance and you should engage people around you for their ideas on keywords, until you build up a complete picture of possible keywords and thin filter out the ones that are not being searched for.

Meta Tag Optimisation

By properly optimising the meta tags of your website, you are effectively informing the search engines what the subject and content of your site is. This also helps traffic to your site from search engine requests in the major search engines. Optimised properly, you can attract more visitors using this basic, but often overlooked essential area of SEO.

Content

Good content is precisely what the majority of visitors and search engines want to see. If your website is to appeal to users, then your site should have fresh, relevant, targeted content that is there to provide a benefit to the visitor.

Whether you employ a copywriter, a consultant or an expert in search engine optimisation, you must have well-written, compelling and above all unique content, to stand a chance in the ever competitive internet.

This is just three examples of how an SEO expert would increase your traffic, leads and turnover. To get a full insight into how to obtain top ten rankings on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and
MSN, speak to your local expert and find out what business you could be generating from this highly rewarding area of internet marketing.

One of the most important factors in determining your ranking in search engines is the number and quality of in-bound links to your site. Link building can include directory submissions, advertising, even link exchanges. But the most effective long-term strategy is to simply create great content.

Search engines will spider or crawl your site more frequently and spider more pages if you have a lot of good links pointing to it.

Before we proceed further, I want to address reciprocal links vs in-bound links. From time to time, I will receive a form email from some entity that wants to exchange links -- that is, they'll link to us if we link to them. That simply will not help you and in some cases may even hinder your efforts to get better positioning in organic search results. As a rule, I always suggest that our clients turn this down unless they are exchanging links with strategic partners.

You should also be mindful where an in-bound link appears. Well placed links from authoritative sites will not only help with your page rank, but they will also bring in a steady stream of quality visitors to your site. That will, in the long run, result in more conversions than if you simply go after random links from anywhere.

Linking to keywords

In the best circumstances, you'll be able to control where and how your in-bound links appear on a site. For example, in directories, you can be sure that you're mapping your in-bound links to your keywords. However, that isn't always the case. If sites find your content useful, they may simply refer to it with the domain name or perhaps some "click here" text. You cannot control that. But wherever possible, try to have the hypertext of the link contain some of your target keywords.

SEO consultants will have all sorts of techniques for accomplishing this. Often, they will submit content to article directories (ezinearticles.com, easyarticles.com, articledashboard.com, etc) with signature links back to target landing pages on the site. This not only promotes you as a subject-matter expert, but also provides in-bound links.

Bottom line...it takes time

As you discuss link building with your SEO consultant, they will likely tell you that it takes a while to build solid in-bound links. There are somewhat dubious shortcuts that you can take but in the end you will fare much better to build slowly and steadily. Next up...getting indexed.

When it comes to linking strategies for your website you need to concentrate on one word. Backlinks!

When it comes to linking strategies for your website you need to concentrate on one word. Backlinks! A backlink is defined as having your website address on another website. This creates a link pointing your visitor or a search engine back to your website. If you were in a game and were keeping score every backlink gives you a +1. An outoging link is the link of another website on yours pointing back to theirs. You would score this a -1.

If you were playing a game to win you would want the most pluses you could get. So it is with linking strategies. Here are some basic ways to get backlinks to your website.

1. You can buy a text link. Websites that get high amounts of traffic and are ranked high with the top search engines will let you pay them to put your website link on their site.

2. Forum marketing is a way to get a backlink. If the forum let's you create a signature file you can hyperlink you website to a keyword phrase pointing back to your website. You can also list your website in your online profile and get a backlink that way,

3. Writing and submitting articles is a quick way to get alot of backlinks. Create a bio box at the end of each article with a link for your website. Then submit your article to as many directories as possible. Or even better yet use a software of article marketer to submit your articles for you.

These articles can be picked up by other directories, webmasters, or online newsletters and spread all over the internet giving your website a viral marketing benefit.

4. Place classified ads with popular directories like US Free Ads or AdlandPro. Upgrade to paid member and you can place unlimited ads with links pointing back to your website.

5. Blog and ping. In each blog post include a sort resource box with your website address. If you archive you posts this gives you backlinks for years to come.

6. Trade links with quality websites. We are not talking about reciprocal linking to directories with thousands of worthless links. A better strategy is to trade a link with a website that closely mirrors your site without being in direct competition to it. Also look to place their link on one of your pages that has the same page rank as the link they are giving you.

7. Post comments on other peoples blogs. Take the time to read the post before you make a comment. Don't write something worthless like " I like your blog." Make your comments informative and relate to the blog post you just read. Then include your website address along with your name.

8. Internal linking can bring valuable backlinks to your home page. This would be when you put your website address in a hyper linked keyword phrase and point it back to your home page. This is a great way to build keyword relevancy along with building up your backlinks.

These are a few linking strategies that work. There are many others. Just keep it simple and remember this simple formula.

There are numerous factors which a search engine has to consider in order to rank various queries of which link popularity is a crucial factor.

To gain link popularity is not a difficult task but it sure does take a great deal of your time. The importance of relevance in the process of attaining link popularity is often argued upon by several SEO theorists who consider it highly essential. All the means which help in gaining link popularity have their own pros and cons. Hence you have to choose an option which would give you a relevant link without neglecting link popularity.

One effective way of acquiring free inbound links is by submitting your website to one of the many web directories. Most of these web directories do not charge you and you can have some more if you just reciprocate their links. But since this will consume a lot of time considering the large number of directories, most webmasters prefer to submit their site to a large number of high PR directories. So an effective long-run strategy would be to have high PR directories and apparent relevance to give a few excellent links without spending much. And if you submit only to a few directories everyday, you will have a continuous influx of relevant backlinks.

Some webmasters indulge in link exchange in order to get their inbound links easily, the only problem being unavailability of one way links. Moreover there are additional services which automatically perform link exchange thereby saving you a precious amount of time.

In order to gain link popularity and relevant links, you can also write articles and submit them to the article directories. Considering the vast number of article directories you can be assured that your article would count. Although this might be one of the best ways of getting backlinks, it can also prove to be very difficult to get the right material which would rank your page higher especially if your English skills are not ample for the task.

One of the oldest tricks in the bag that webmasters use is to design pages in such a manner that they draw in inbound links. This link-baiting is done by offering a huge list of things like web and article directories or by providing free software. Designing a good link-bait page will give you a large number of results when queried in a search engine. After designing the page it is necessary to advertise the link on other websites like forums and blogs for people to see and further advertise it through their own pages, mails or forums.

Banking on a single method for link popularity will not help. Instead you should use all the possible ways in proportion so as to get a cost-effective, time conserving and efficient means of promoting your page.
