One subject of my retardanalysis is my life as a blogger. Where is the point? What is a blog? I did an online journalism module last year, which featured blogging; only the lectures made The Blog out to be something much more important than whatever the heck this page is all about. Then, today, I discovered Courtney Love's Myspace blog, and it turned this whole idea on it's head. Frankly, the woman is nuts.

So, I've been doing some research into what a blog actually is and what a blog should be. So, to quickly define it, Blogger gives a quick and easy definition:

"A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world."

Reassuring - and nice use of the elliptical clause, Blogger! I can fit this blog somewhere into that spectrum. I also found an interesting piece here on this link which is far more academic, if you are interested.

The question these definitions don't answer, however, is "what makes a blog popular?". My blog has become far more popular since I moved to Wordpress - the site has been good to me. I believe the biggest contributor to my increased popularity is that opposed to my old blog-home on MySpace, I now get hits from Google, which is really nice. People continue to read my style of blog because they like the blogger's style or sense of humour. My blogs are styled on a newspaper columnist model, like a lot of blogs out there. Even on newspaper websites, blogs tend to adhere to this style. I believe the blog has actually taken over the position of the newspaper comment piece and columnists.

The most famous blogs are those which have a good USP. I don't think mine actually does; it's just an arbitrary collection of pieces written by some nobody. If Courtney Love wasn't famous, I probably wouldn't have found her blog, and I certainly would not have read her Dadaist keyboard vomit. The woman really is nuts. Lily Allen has a blog which gets a lot of press, even though she isn't the most eloquent of writers. I'm not saying this is a bad thing - I actually like celebrity blogs (particularly if they are genuinely nuts), and I like that the internet gives access to a whole different range of opinions and topics to whinge about; but it can be overwhelming at times, particularly for a small-time, non-famous blogger like me. Who is going to google my name when noone knows it?!

I sometimes feel a little lost in the blogosphere because I'm up against far more interesting bloggers like Mimi Smartypants (who says in this blog that "this whole diary is about sitting down and turning the brain-faucet on and seeing what trickles out."), who can keep a diary without analysing her humanity along with it - not too much anyway. Alas, I feel a bit lost because this blog started as a MySpace blog, and was imported wholesale from that site. It did not require a title or an introduction, just text. Lots of text. Here, I'm forced into being far more of a nobody than I ever was before. I guess this is why I insist on changing the title of the page and the banner pic: even after like three years of blogging and a lifetime of diary writing, I can't decide on how I want to represent myself!

I no longer use my MySpace page, but have preserved it as it was a year ago. It's like a MySpace tribute to some kid who has died. I feel like Los Davies is dead along with the hippie dream, but it's nice to be able to drop in and visit him sometimes.

still chillin' but i must thank the sunshine that day. otherwise i would have missed a super...ummm...how do i put it...super funny changing of guards ceremony at the buckingham palace! hahahaha!

i dont know...for some weird reasons i find it funny in a hilarious way! :-)

ohhh! and those brit chaps with placards like "for sale", "piercing & tattooes" and "sightseeing in london", standing in most lamp posts in oxford despite the chill at 12C, made me understand the other face of glamorously rich london city.

and yes i missed joining the fun run at london central (cuz i cant make myself run with the freezing morning breeze. boo!), seeing the F1 race, notting hill's blue door, bath city, trip to cambridge or oxford campuses for that matter, stonehenge, temple church, getting a ride in the london eye despite my 4D/3N stay in LDN, notwithstanding my ever growing fancy to brit accent and their dry humour and yeah brit ska...i know...i just know LDN is not my dream city!

it's ridiculously expensive.

cold and gloomy even on summer days.

lacks the vibrance of paris.

can't rival the quaint cities of amsterdam & utrecht.

nor match the spirited cities of köln & düsseldorf.

but dont get me wrong. i still think it's a lovely city. their parks!!! ohhh i'm sooo envious seeing runners enjoying their well manicured and very green big parks not to mention other locals who're sunbathing there enjoying the little glimpse of sunshine of a summer afternoon in their attempt to have that tanned skin. their tube! woaaah! it's efficiency in motion.

BUT...but i just think it's overrated or perhaps i just expected too much. either way, if you are some kinda culture vulture (like i am) museums are everywhere or if you're into stage plays that are brilliantly made - go swing by to west end. and for those who're into shopping galore - their high streets wont let you down :-)

and boy! their strawberries!!! i think theirs the best!

Jo entenc que els cantants, com a treballadors autònoms que són, reclamin ajuda a l'Administració per tal que aquesta els ajudi a poder tirar endavant el seu negoci (que és el de cantar) tal i com fan la resta d'empresaris que tenen al seu abast crèdits i d'altres ajudes per tal d'arrancar-lo. El problema recau quan aquests artistes, en comptes de veure per on va la societat, no els dóna la gana de canviar la seva estratègia i es planten davant d'aquest mercat, que va canviant, de la mateixa manera que ho feien abans. No s'adapten, no innoven, no s'actualitzen i això, quan li passa a una empresa "normal" el que acaba és desapareixent, donant el seu lloc a noves idees que, poden obrir-se pas d'entre les ja existents, però amb una cosa a favor: no els cal adaptar-se ja que ja neixen amb els estàndards d'aquesta societat canviada.

Els artistes no crec que hagin de basar els seus ingressos majoritàriament en la venda de discos sinó en els concerts. Abans sí que eren importants els CDs que treien al mercat, però ara no ho són en la mateixa mesura. Actualment, un disc, crec jo, no serveix de gaire cosa. El cost de treure un disc al mercat és molt alt: s'ha de comprar els CDs, caixes per posar-los, paper per les portades, la distribució... en canvi, amb un arxiu a un servidor de la companyia discogràfica totes aquestes despeses desapareixen. Aquests arxius no li arriben a costar a l'empresa res i els poden vendre a preus d'escàndol treient-ne grans beneficis tot i el reduït preu si es fa bé, ja que si no fan un CD, piratejar-lo serà impossible, pel que algú s'haurà de baixar la cançó pagant i, fent que perdi qualitat al canviar-lo de format o amb qualsevol altra tàctica, la gent acudirà en massa, un cop ensinistrats, a baixar-se la cançó.

On els artistes sí que crec que han de posar-hi tot el seu esforç és en les gires. Aquí és on ha de radicar el seu principal negoci: cobrar una entrada a la gent que ve atreta pel que ja ha escoltat, potser gratuïtament, però que amb una bona promoció o pel que sigui pot ser un gran boom, tal i com ha passat amb artistes com, per exemple, la Lily Allen que va sorgir de MySpace i que al seu primer concert, sense haver tret un sol disc al mercat, va ser un rotund èxit.

La SGAE és el principal problema. D'acord que si has creat una obra vulguis que tots els beneficis que en surtin passin per les teves mans, si més no la part que et pertoca com a creador, però no crec que sigui una bona idea que (per citar un exemple qualsevol) Ramoncín, un cantant (sic) que en la seva època va tindre un cert èxit (jo crec que no existia o era massa petit per recordar-me d'alguna cançó), vulgui seguir vivint de renda acusant-nos a tots de lladres en el moment que comprem una caixa de CDs verges o disc dur nou cobrant-nos, gràcies al meravellós suport Estatal, un cànon per si de cas aquests són utilitzats per piratejar obres, encara que els autors no pertanyin a la SGAE. Al senyor Teddy Bautista, el que mana a la Societat d'Autors, no li sona de res la presumció d'innocència? Au, va! I el govern donant-los cova. Deu ser que tenen talante, oi ZetaPé? La esquerra supeditada als requeriments abusius dels gestors d'una entitat privada... on arribarem a parar? Tindran raó Chávez, Correa, Morales i els seus seguidors? Haurem de revoltar-nos els indígenes? DES D'AQUÍ CRIDO A LA REVOLTA INDÍGENA! Visca, visca! Ole, ole! Som-hi tots!

The 'Smile' singer, 23, is currently recruiting other stars to perform at the concert, and is reportedly planning to approach Amy Winehouse, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Leona Lewis, Jay-Z, and Sugababes.

Lily said: "My thoughts are with all the families affected by these heinous crimes. We need to have a knife amnesty. And we should put on a big concert to raise awareness and stop the violence."

Hablando para la BBC Newsbeat, Lily Allen ha explicado que además de haber terminado su propio álbum, había estado escribiendo con el frontman de los Klaxons, Jamie Reynolds.

Sobre el sucesor de Alright, Still (2006), Allen comenta: "Estoy segura de que ya está terminado y tengo una reunión el martes con el sello, estoy muy contenta".

Sobre su colaboración con Reynolds, comenta que compartieron estudio e hicieron una versión del "Steppin' Out" de Joe Jackson. Aunque tienen previsto quedar para nuevas sesiones.

Allen ha revelado algunos detalles de su próximo disco, el segundo. La cantante ha comentado que el título tentativo es Stuck on the naughty step.

"En Inglaterra, cuando los niños son traviesos, les mandan a reposar al sitio de los malos... algo así como un descanso, sabes?. Me siento atrapada en un agujero donde la gente dice: 'Lily eres mala. Piensa sobre lo que has hecho'".

Se sabe que el álbum debería publicarse a lo largo del presente año.

- 26 september zou het derde album van Novastar uitkomen. Daaropvolgend is er een optreden in Hasselt en een in Brussel gepland.

- Dit is wel plezant: muziek van groepen die in een minuscuul lettertype op de festivalaffiches staan.
