Project title

Creative and Media Industry - An investigation in to opportunities for Black British TV Producers/Writers. 

My audience will be teachers and students working on Level 2 and 3 Media/Communications courses including the creative and Media Diploma, Media Studies GCSE and AS/A2. The assignment that I submit will have direct crossovers with the Edexcel principal learning components of the Creative and Media Level 2 Diploma.  My audiences will find both the teachers notes and student worksheets particularly useful for units: 1 (Scene), 6 (Festival) or 7 (extended project). I will use a similar format and style of presentation as used in the BFI Teaching Film and Media Studies Series.

The information will be presented in a series of interlinked web pages, and will include downloadable worksheets, hyperlinks as well as sources (including text and images) from external sources; a bibliography /web-links page will also be added.

An introduction to the Black presence in British broadcasting, past and present.

(John Dales (is that his name) interview will come in here as well as the perspectives put forward by Lenny Henry (and other popular criticism).

Factors contributing to the need for more Black writers and producers and a broadcasting industry that is more reflective of the audiences it is attempting to cater for will be introduced. Really, this introduction will be my PEST analysis – the primary audience here will be teachers.

Opportunities for students to explore some of the issues raised in the introduction will come about in the form of investigative worksheets, whereby the students explore aspects in greater detail. Student worksheets will include:

The Mechanics of the Broadcasting Industry

An investigation into 'preferred' and 'Indies';

·       who and what are they?

·       How can this 'set-up' affect who and what is Broadcast?

Migration

·       A quick look at how and why Black people, particularly Caribbean people came to Britain and reason for why the culture they bought with them permeates contemporary British culture / society.

Assimilation, Multiculturalism and Integration

·       Is there a need to highlight a need for Black writers and producers?

Broadcasting in Britain and the Black Presence

Webquest - students would use the internet to follow leads on how and why Black people started to appear on British Screens. This will introduce them to the context in which Black producers and writers are working in today as well as introduce some of the political/economic ideologies that persist as barriers for the (racial / social) group.

Urban, You What?

·       An opportunity to explore the case of black music and how producers and writers in this sector of the Creative and Media industry have found their space (or not)?

·       Why Urban and not Black Music...?

A series of worksheets that offer a step-by-step guide to:

Unit: 5 (Edexcel principal learning components of the Creative and Media Level 2 Diploma)

·       Brief: Research, plan and create for a festival that includes content from Black British Producers and Writers to be screened on Channel 4.

·       The festival will be screened on TV and will include a variety of TV broadcast formats.

Level 2

He pasado al Level 2. En mi miente hay 3 Levels. Serian estos..

Level 1: Al menos hablas con tias, haces algun opener de vez en cuando y consigues algún MSN de vez en cuando. Llamas a eso sargear y no casualidades de la vida. Tienes una estrategia que puede dar más o menos resultado pero al menos mantienes una interacción con mujeres mínima, mujeres desconocidas. Aprendes de ti mismo o de lo que puedes y aunque seas novato ya eres diferente al 99% de los seres humanos.

Level 2: Controlas tanto el Night-Game como el Day-Game. Puedes atraer la atención de casi cualquier set sea donde sea, ya sea de dia o de noche. Tienes unas estrategias muy definidas y el 90% de tus sets acaban que ellas te piden tu MSN o movil o acabas liandote con ella. Y si no se da ninguna de estas 2 opciones es porque ellas tienen novio que esta AHI mismo.. si no esta ahí no sirve como excusa. Eres bueno, sabes que eres bueno y realmente sientes que tienes estilo y eres una persona diferente. -ESES ES MI ACTUAL LEVEL-

Level 3: Es el nivel de los maestros. Quiere decir lo que se conoce como el "5 for 5".Que quiere decir que si habres 5 sets consigues en menos de 2 semanas haber tenido sexo con tu objetivo en cada uno de esos sets, o las haces tus novias. Es realmente tener 100% de haciertos. Puedes atraer a esas mujeres completamente y tu mayor problema es que tienes demasiado sexo.

Ya ta... Tras controlar perfectamente mi Level 1 ya tengo perfecto dominio de todo y puedo decir que estoy en el Level 2.

Now that I've done three cable swatches, it's on to . . . buttonholes!

Horizontal, vertical, and others (like eyelet).  I pulled out several resource books and tried 31 different styles.  

    The "tubular buttonhole" I tried twice.  

  Next, I plan to focus on just a few -- the ones that looked best to me in the LONG sample -- to hone my technique.  Then, a swatch for submission with the best of each kind.

While the Master Knitter compels me strongest lately, I have also cast on for a pair of kilt hose in KnitPicks cotton-blend Risata.  I *hope* (at least feebly) to finish these before July 19th, the start of our Celtic Heritage Festival.

Keep in mind the ultrasound machine was crappy and old, so these results can only be used as preliminary findings, at best.

So, they did not see anything wrong with the baby.  No markers for spina bifida or abdominal wall defect.  The next ultrasound could still find something, but it is reassuring to know that THIS ultrasound didn't see anything.  Now, only 7 more days to wait until we have some more definite answers.

I have marginal placenta previa, again.  I had this while pregnant with Haley too.  I thought I was in the clear as far as previa went because at my early ultrasounds the baby was always up high--so my, and the doctor's, assumption was that the placenta would form high in the uterus as well.  Wrong!  So let me get this out of my system:  MY UTERUS IS AN ASSHOLE!!!  So, the placenta is low and hanging over the cervix.  I haven't had any bleeding or spotting like I had during the pregnancy with Haley, so that's a good sign, I hope.  However, now that the doctor thinks that there could be an additional problem with the placenta along with previa she is very worried about pre-term labor.  Understandable.  It's easy to just keep an eye on one problem, but when there are possibly two problems, that can change things quite a bit.  Doc says any bleeding and I should go straight to the ER if I can't be seen in her office immediately.  Seems kinda dramatic to me, but I'm no doctor so I'll follow her orders.  Doc also says that the appointment with the perinatologist is more important than ever, given the new information.  So, I definitely can't miss that!

The kicker of the whole phone call to get the results was that the report read "Gender undetermined, but it appears to be a female"  Sigh.  That's not exactly the straight answer I was hoping for. LOL  Seven more days and we'll have them look at the peri's office.  I can't wait to know for sure!

i just want to you to be aware, that Br. Mohamed Zakria (my dad) and  I will be out of the Country on May 20. Thus, my last day teaching will be May 18, 2008.

I am terribly sorry for that. But due to the high cost of tickets to Egypt are very high after that date.

 I will be giveing short tests and these grades will be handed to the school's administration. I will also be handing back all the graded tests back insha Allah. Remember this years final grades are based on the the student performance in class, behavior, and on the 3(maybe more as per the teacher) tests given.  All grades are given on numeral bases. These grades will be averaged with the grades from the student's other class (there are total of 4 class). If you have any questions please let me know.

On Sunday we started surat Qurish and also finished it. We will go over it a gain in class insha Allah, and if needed we will go over it again the week after.

As for the Arabic, we worked on pages 16 and it is to be finished for homework.

I could not make it to class this sunday. Sr. Neama (my mom) and my siblings where flying to Egypt that day, and I had to go with them to the Airport. Thus, I did not assign any thing this week.

We finished reviewing Surat Al-Asr. We will be having a test nest time we meet.

As for the Arabic, i believe we went over page 15. I discussed briefly about the Prophets mentioned in the book. So, please finish that for home work.

One is a landscape and a portrait but both have different style which to be frank one of them doesn't really have a formative layout. A final one will be issued soon :D

Happy Mother's Day to all the mama's out there!  Haley brought home a Mother's Day gift from school.  It was so cute that it had me in tears half the evening.  It is a card and a magnet.  The card says I love my mom because she is fun! Aww.  The magnet is quite large and is the word "MOM."  The O is a picture frame with an adorable picture of Haley taken in front of a tree in the school yard (a tree that was planted in remembrance of Haley's teacher's son who passed from cancer last year at 17).  It is so adorable!  I can't wait to pull that out 20 years from now and remember how I felt getting it from her.

Haley had a program at school.  They sang several songs and did a few very short skits where each child had a small part or line.  It was an Earth Day themed event.  The whole room was decked out to look like the rainforest with leaves and vines hanging from every part of the classroom.  They all did a really great job.  Haley kept stopping in the middle of the songs to mouth the words "I love you, Mom" and to blow kisses and wave and reach out to me.  I was in tears through most of it.  My child is absolutely the sweetest thing to ever walk the Earth.  I have been truly blessed by having her.  I don't know any other mother or father who has such a strong connection with their child.  I hope that Haley and I can maintain this deep relationship into her adult life as well.  She is one special little girl.  I can't imagine a second of my life without her!

Tomorrow is my 26th birthday.  Just another day.  I did schedule our ultrasound for my birthday though and that will make it very memorable!  I wasn't sure if I wanted to find out the sex of the baby, and my mind has waivered again these past couple of days.  Now, I feel an urgency to give this child an identity and a name.  In light of our not so favorable test results, I want to have that connection with this baby.  To call him or her by name.  To touch my belly and know who is kicking me.  To be able to tell Haley that she is having a brother or sister so that she can connect with this baby as well.  It is important in this moment because we have no clue what the future holds right now.

So, about these bad test results....

I have put off writing about it up until now since I don't really know how to put into words how I'm feeling about it all.  So, I'll start by explaining the test the best I can. 

It is a test to check the levels in MY blood of Alpha Feto-Protein (AFP).  AFP is produced by the baby and the placenta.  These proteins are found in the amniotic fluid and a certain level of them cross the placenta and enter the mother's (my) blood stream.  Depending on the age of the fetus these levels vary.  If the levels are too low it can be indicative of Down's Syndrome or other trisomy.  If the levels are too high it can be indicative of neural tube defect, abdominal wall defect, or a problem with the placenta.  In a low percentage of cases (1-5%), these levels being out of the normal range is unexplainable.

My number was high.  So high, in fact, that our odds of spina bifida are now 1:341.  Now, that doesn't seem too bad right?  Well, that's the best odds.  The odds of abdominal wall defect are much higher. 

So, we have an appointment for ANOTHER ultrasound on May 22nd with a perinatologist.  They will be looking intensely for any sign of a problem.  We may also have to have an amniocentesis done after that test (within a few weeks).  Depending on the doctor, some will do an amnio because they can't find anything on the ultrasound and want to look into it further and some doctors will only do an amnio if there are definite markers of a problem on the ultrasound.  It's all a waiting game now.  We won't know anything until we get there.  I do plan on talking further to my own doctor before the 22nd to ask some more questions.  There is so much that's unanswered right now, but I'm sure that the only answers to be had are resting with the perinatologist and the upcoming tests.  While my doctor is awesome, I know that she can't predict the future.

We reviewed surat Quarish in class. We will be having a test on in next week.

As for the Arabic, students are to finish page 17 (salah, lot)

As a side note, I believe the students recieved information regarding the ICNA Quiz competion. Your should look in to that. It is a great experience, even if they do not win. I can say this from personal experience.
