This music has been playing constantly as I study and I've pretty much fallen in love! You all know how much I love remixes and it's been a while since I've featured someone who does a fair amount of remixes. Hoping sometime soon he'll do a set down under in Perth and get all of us kiddies to move our feet- in the meantime, dancing in my room to this music will have to do.

How did you come up with the name?
It's about the excitement of enjoying life.

Tell me a little about yourself?
Dev or Devlin/27/Seattle

What did you do before the starting?
I’ve been producing & djing since I was 15. So probably going to school, playing sports, & getting drunk, in that order.

How did you start out/ was it hard?
My friend Axcys got me into early electronic music like Orb, Orbital, & Aphex Twin and later when I was 15 I got more interested in djing and house music. I was really influenced by Jeno, Doc Martin, & Derrick Carter. In the late nineties I used to play 2x4's(2 djs x 4 turntables) with my brother, Sean Patrick at raves on the west coast. I think the hardest part was getting my hands on equipment to produce and dj at 15.

Any big plans for the near future?
A west coast tour with TurboWeekend in September(SEA/LA/SF/ETC.) and a new project collaborating with another producer that I am really excited about! Stay tuned!

--Random questions--
What song have you been listening to most in the past few weeks?
a1 bassline - bad man horror theme

What one materialistic thing can you not live without?
my shoes :P

What have you learnt from doing what you do?
to never stop

Do you have a secret name for your favourite inanimate object?
boom.dip.beep.boom.dip

Has your music helped in picking up girls/boys?
Haha

Has anything crazy or embarrassing ever happened during a live gig?Every set is crazy!!!

Have an awesome time exploring his myspace to see his many remixes that has been completed and some that are in process- so you have something to look forward to!
You also get to see where his music has been featured and where he'll be performing.
Plus- he's given a link to his music- available for download!

Welcome aboard number 7...

Pounding up and down the Indie and Electro streets once more, I hold aloft for you special people yet more selected peaks from the world of good choonage. This time we got two DJ's found blasting air horns from 'Blog House' heaven and one tidy European pair of dreamers. These DJ's are very well known to the blog world already, but I simply cannot resist posting about them myself. However, the last entry may not be known to your ears. Check them all though, coz they're ALL good...

I'll start at the beginning. Seems the best idea...OK, first mentioned in previous post The Gig List 6 this super-fly DJ is a mash up in human form. KISSY SELL OUT - the Designer, the Fashion Icon, the Global DJ, the Radio One Talent and all round Remix-Master, grew up soaking up Nirvana, warped into a Drum n Bass freak through his formative years and came out of it all a pioneer of Indie-Electro remix super-sets. And he's only 23 years old!! Easy on the ears, his taste for blends are as good as they get. With a massive remix back catalogue including Chromeo, Mark Ronson, R.E.M and Gwen Steffani, amongst many others, he specialises in turning the pop world into ultra-slick dance-floor filler. Truly outstanding.

Find him here: www.myspace.com/kissysellout

Second in command in this edition, is another sublime Blog House DJ, this time from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The electric LE CASTLE VANIA, (aka Dylan Eiland), has been busting dance floors globally. With his trademark Emo-style, white-lightning hairstyle, skinny jeans and trainers that look like they were bought in a Nike boutique in a planetary system many light years away, his array of colours only serve to add to his level of cool. Dropping super-massive beats you will see Dylan pumping fists and jumping up and down behind the decks as much as the adoring fans on the dance floor in front of him. Excitable and contagiously energetic, his banging remixes and original productions are fuzzy, chunky, pounding electro of the highest order. Tasteeeeee.

Coming in third today are a gorgeous girl/boy pairing from Zurich, Switzerland, going by the name of DIVISION KENT. They bounce out melodic electronic music with a guitar sound and a sweeping atmosphere. It's really quite beautiful. I attach my favourite track below for you, Superstitious. They are two albums in now, with their latest work entitled 'Gravity', so please go and track that down if you fancy more.

Hoping to get a new Q&A completed shortly with both Kissy Sell Out and Le Castle Vania posted up real soon, so look out for those in the future. I just gotta catch them when we all get a spare minute. This blog is growing so fast I may even have to source another contributer to match the demand, so watch this space.

See you back here real soon...

I was rather pleased with the electronic/dance mix that I recently made for Steel Away. (It evolved from a rather ill-favored horror/trance mix called "Twitch of the Dance Nerve".) As I couldn't really post all the info on the rockin' dustcover (second only to my "Tales to Astonish!" mix cover for Liz) I am going to reproduce it here.

Welcome back.

Got another theme-based Recommender for Number 6. I'm going to concentrate on the awesomely-brilliant Los Anegeles scene. It's breathtakingly huge and ram-jammed with DJ's, clubs, photgraphers and labels so fucking cool that its icy breeze stretches around the world. The city is known for its beach life, trend-setting scenesters and sunny dispositions, so it makes for a great proving ground for the city's young crowd to bathe in.

I should begin by stating that with all the DJ's I'm rolling on about in this post, all roads seem to lead back to a collection of hipsters, often found around CINESPACE, a cinema/lounge/club in Hollywood. To give you an idea of the type of people that crop up on it's radar here's a shortlist:

Steve Aoki (Dim Mak Records Boss and DJ)
Cobrasnake Crew (Hipster Profilers including; Rony Alwins & Mark Hunter -Photographers)
Sarah Morrison (Famous Youtube scenester)
Kid Paparazzi (Another photographer of beautiful people)
DJs, including: Busy P, Dan Oh, Gina Turner, La Castle Vania, Crookers amongst many others...

OK OK OK, back to THE RECOMMENDER - NUMBER 6.

First up this week, a DJ duo well known at Cinespace, LA RIOTS. They can rip up the dancefloor like a West coast earthquake! Signed up to Fools Gold records, they have been blasting out the finest electro remixes for the likes of Justice, Scanners and Hearts Revolution, and they're as good as anyone's. I list below their mix of 'Can't Believe A Single Word' for your listening stimulation...

Moving on, the next crew I wanna blow up are ROYAL RUMBLE, who are also firmly welded to the Cinespace scene regularly popping up around LA playing at their touring event night, Hush Hush, where they bill alongside the likes of Skeet Skeet, Modular records DJs and Classixx (see below...) amongst many others. They are a 3-piece consisting of; Dan, Kyle and Russ, spinning their bouncing electro favourites for all to shake to. I list their remix of the Soulwax tune, 'Miserable Girl', below because its so freaking ace! Enjoy.

Find them here: www.myspace.com/theroyalrumble

Finally, for this longer than normal post, I come to the last of the California-linked geniuses, a two-piece known as CLASSIXX. Formerly known as The Young Americans until a legal situation put an end to it, this pair are found on many of the Hush Hush parties thrown in the LA area. I cannot get enough of their brilliant mixes and bubbling electro sound. I list below their tune Dial One.

Find them here: http://www.myspace.com/classixxmusic

So you now have no excuses - book up your flight to LA now! What a scene, what a collection of brilliant DJ's and its all in the sunshine. Sounds like perfection. Hope you enjoyed this themed post. I'll be back with another one real soon, so keep coming back and I promise to love you forever...

Child prodigy turned electro-wizard, Yuksek, is making more of an appearance these days with his ever-inspiring remixes. This time it’s of artists like Mika, Ghostface Killah and Van She. “Lollipop” has all of the starry-eyed electro builds to keep dancefloors- and European festival grounds- melting all summer. In a totally different, but equally impressive direction, we have us a Van She “Strangers” remix that showcases all of the dreamy, synthy new wave goodness with that grinding electro spine that only Yuksek could pair. A big thanks goes out to LeTouch for the update- wonderful blog. Cheers!

We also have us a piping hot remix from Le Castle Vania. This time he reworked one of my favorite songs and artists of the moment, Grum. One of my favorite classic artists from when this blog had just started and one of my favorite artists from within the last few weeks. Keep an eye out for a killer Shinichi Osawa edit by Lies In Disguise, Le Castle Vania’s project with Blake Miller from Moving Units, that they have coming out pretty soon. Now that’s a winning combo if I’ve ever heard one..

I keep forgetting to post this new hot banging remix of Grum's "Go Back" by Le Castle Vania. Some of my favorite dance blogs have been raving about it and I will follow suit.

The original "Go Back" was already a hot piece of hot diddy, but what mister Castle Vania did was take it up a few more notches and turned it into a completely club banging monster. I may not be able to hang with those coked up kids at the clubs these days, but I can at least imagine myself just completely losing it past 3am in the morning if this track were to be hitting the speakers.

Just take a look down below at what happens with the song drops:

Can you hang?

Photos by Andral Ludovic - Great work. And while you're at it, check out this page of advertisements. There's some pretty funny stuff there.

Child prodigy turned electro-wizard, Yuksek, is making more of an appearance these days with his ever-inspiring remixes. This time it's of artists like Mika, Ghostface Killah and Van She. "Lollipop" has all of the starry-eyed electro builds to keep dancefloors- and European festival grounds- melting all summer. In a totally different, but equally impressive direction, we have us a Van She "Strangers" remix that showcases all of the dreamy, synthy new wave goodness with that grinding electro spine that only Yuksek could pair. A big thanks goes out to LeTouch for the update- wonderful blog. Cheers!

Mika - Lollipop (Yuksek Remix)

Van She - Strangers (Yuksek Remix) (removed..)

We also have us a piping hot remix from Le Castle Vania. This time he reworked one of my favorite songs and artists of the moment, Grum. One of my favorite classic artists from when this blog had just started and one of my favorite artists from within the last few weeks. Keep an eye out for a killer Shinichi Osawa edit by Lies In Disguise, Le Castle Vania's project with Blake Miller from Moving Units, that they have coming out pretty soon. Now that's a winning combo if I've ever heard one..

Amsterdam.

"So, Nicko. What have you been listening to?" Good question. I've been listening to all of these songs. All at the same time on multiple audio players while drinking lysol. Really clears the senses. Now time for another audio overload. Later I might throw some underground hip hop classics down, seeing that I have my hard drive back up again.

Shinichi Osawa, you've made quite a name for yourself. You're my favorite Japanese producer. You are all over my iTunes, but for some reason you've never had your own focal-point post. That's ok. Everybody else has done it already, so I'll save that one for your next release, or for some big news.

Soulwax - Miserable Girl (Shinichi Osawa Extra Hard Edit)

Shinichi Osawa - The Patch

Plaid - Whites Dream (Shinichi Osawa Remix)

Where has "Saloperie de Minimale" been hiding? Right from the beginning it sounds like it might be mislabeled. Humble and minimal until that first drop. Toxic Avenger creates a dreamy, fist pounding electro banger here with tiny periods of narcolepsy throughout. A very interesting piece. The Snowden & Dragonette tracks had to be included. You could take a Snowden track, lower the quality, reverse it and send it to me and I'd still gush over it. Thank you, KissAtlanta.

The Toxic Avenger - Saloperie De Minimale

Dragonette - Take It Like A Man (The Toxic Avenger Remix)

Gorilla.

Back to Australia. ZZZ caught my ear a little bit ago. If it's not heavy keyboard intros with "Lion" it's super-choppy schizophrenic edits with Surkin and Mehdi. The Beats for Beginners mixup is another winner. I really dig the artwork they use, too. There's something unique about the sound & style that they orchestrate.

ZZZ - Lion

Beats For Beginners - Lazer Beams For Eyes (Beats Vs ZZZ Remix)

Surkin - Ghetto Explosion (ZZZ Remix)

Lies In Disguise is everywhere, on the internet and geographically. Multiple dates in select countries all over the map. And with only one track, I'm surprised how quickly it's spread around here. I had no idea that Le Castle Vania was so popular (alongside Blake Miller of Moving Units- what a combo). Can anybody else see Beavis & Butthead headbanging to this one in front of their TV? It's also tight that they circulated a 320 bitrate copy. Now I have to give a little love.

Party Shank - Penis VS Vagina (Lies In Disguise Remix)

Moving Units - Crash 'N' Burn Victims

Crookers.

Crookers are exploding like a volcano, and I'm standing at the base of Mt. Vesuvius ready to be frozen in time spazzing. I'm not quite sure what that means. But I know that I mean it. They hang with The Bloody Beetroots. And they're dope. If you read my posts frequently enough, they need no introduction by now. And they have a cool little drawing that explains everything. They're like punk rock pirates with turntables or something. I don't know.. Honestly, I've been on my computer for too long. I need a smoke break.

Bumblebeez - Dr. Love (Crookers Remix)

Carnifull Trio - Song For Guido (Crookers Crunk Mix)

Crookers - Lick My Lennon (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

And here's a little wind-down. If you haven't been able to tell by now, I'll eat up any Bloc Party remix/edit/whatever that I find. The Final Fantasy track is great, and there is an awesome video on youtube of him covering "This Modern Love". Look to the comments and watch these guys begging for an MP3 of it. Haha. So talented. The originals get a lot of justice here. And I feel the same way about the Smashing Pumpkins cover, too, though you won't ever find me listening to Kweller otherwise. Enjoy & have a great day.

Katie.

I just drove 18 hours yesterday. From Texas all the way through Oklahoma City and back to Chicago. Long road with lots of Christians everywhere. But New Young Pony Club is in town tonite over at Subterranean. Should be a good time. I'm surprised that they are playing at such a low key venue- def. not a complaint at all, every show I've seen over there has been awesome. Who knows. I posted the Mehdi remix a bit ago, so that's why it's missing.

New Young Pony Club - Get Lucky (MSTRKRFT Remix)

New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream (Thee Bang Gang Deejays Remix)

Thursday is the night to go out this week if you're looking for it. I've been waiting a while now to see Treasure Fingers spin a set, throw in LA Riots and you've got yourself a commitment here. There's a couple of other guys on the lineup (DJ Deekline, DJ Analyze, Kieth Mackenzie & Local Hero) as well, leaving me wondering when to show up. The event will kickoff the New Guard 1 Year Anniversary. You'll find me tomorrow, for sure, over at Smart Bar getting down. Going to be a rough Friday.

Little Brother, Evidence (of Dilated Peoples) & Black Milk are going to play at The Abbey Pub the same night, too. Dilated Peoples speaks for itself. If you are aware that underground hip exists than you've heard their work. Little Brother is a personal fav, and it's only fitting that he rolls through after 9th Wonder even if they aren't playing together. I'll be willing to put a bet on Black Milk to become a really hot emcee soon, all props go to him at the moment. Big Tanz turned me on to his work a few months back. Pretty tight stuff.

Evidence - Born In LA

Dilated Peoples - End Of Time
(sorry 'bout the quality, still a good song)

Ok, who’s on board with me saying that this Facebook crap has spun completely and totally out

Ok, who's on board with me saying that this Facebook crap has spun completely and totally out of control? What used to be an interesting user-platform for it's simplicity and purity regarding promotional racket has now, thanks to program developers, turned into a nightmare. No, i don't want to be a facebook zombie. No, not a pirate either. And i don't care what football team you like, where i am on your hotness-meter, or if you buy me a digital shot of tequila. How about buying me a real shot of tequila? At a bar.

And on to music. Some Junior Boys feels pretty good right now. I saw them play at Coachella this year, walked into the tent as they were playing 'Birthday' and melted. They're very impressive live. A great set/great band/great day. I went from that tent to the Soulwax tent. Ha. Let's just say it was quite a contrast.

Junior Boys - Birthday (Live @ HigherGound 04.08.07)

Junior Boys - In The Morning (Hot Chip Remix)

In the past two months or so, since South American electro-pop group The Twelves hit the ground running all over every website imaginable, I have finally come around to posting them. The Twelves are actually a duo, made up of J.Miguel & Liciano Oliveira and occasionally Anne, who drops in on some of their tracks and sings. Their remix work is stellar, the MIA remix is better than any I have heard so far. Just check the tracks below.

Asobi Seksu - Thursday (The Twelves Remix)

MIA - Boys (The Twelves Remix)

And fit for the perfect segue from an MIA track, we have ourselves Santogold. Throwing down with some of the best producers around, including Switch, Sinden, Spankrock & Diplo, Santogold rocks a style of hip hop geared towards ears south of the equator. And though she is from NY, she has an enormous following in countries overseas. Her album will be dropping shortly, so keep an eye out for this chick.

Santogold - You'll Find A Way (Switch and Sinden Remix)

Santogold - Creator

Is it me? Or are Tthe Bloody Beetroots everywhere right now? Straight out of Italy, rocking crimson Spider Man masks onstage, the 'Beetroots bring walls down with their remix work, and are steadily touring in Europe for the next few weeks. Oh, and they haven't even yet released their first EP. Don't expect that one for another couple of months at least, they're planning to drop it in '08. Hopefully earlier than later.

The Whip - Muzzle No1 (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Goose - Everybody (Bloody Beetroots Chipmunk Remix)

Captain Phoenix - Pistols & Hearts (Bloody Beetroots Remix)

This post is for my friends in Scottsdale. Le Castle Vania is rolling through town, and will be dropping set over at e4. He's gained notoriety the past few months for his monthly gigs with fellow DJ, Treasure Fingers, called "Fuck Yesss". When i get the money, I'll fly out and check it out for myself, but for now I have these. (That Snowden remix is so great).

Le Castle Vania - Trouble In Daylight

Le Castle Vania - Trouble In Daylight (LA Riots Remix)

Snowden - Black Eyes (Le Castle Vania Remix)

And to swtich gears real quick, here's The Octopus Project. As an experimental pop/rock group, they gained a lot of momentum on the internet this week and caught my ear a few days ago. Both of these songs really sank in after a few listens. having released four albums thus far, their latest "House of Apples and Eyeballs" last year, The Octopus Project are currently on a tour that spans all across North America. So check the Myspace page to see when their rolling through your town.

Zuma Toxic Mondays, Tempe.

When the Midnight Juggernauts drop their LP, "Dystopia", it’s going to be massive. It's set to release on the 4th. An Australian band, the 'Juggernauts have been embraced by France and elevated to international stardom throughout the past few months. It seems they're more popular in France than their own country, but you can expect that to change very soon. This song was on the justice essential mix about an hour and 19 minutes into it. their lp is due this week

Midnight Juggernauts – Into the Galaxy

A new Para One song! Can’t go wrong.

Para One – Midnight Swim

A Danceable version of Interpol. (On the West Coast!) Though sometimes they come off a bit to emo and whiney for my tastes, I will admit that they were surprisingly good live when I saw them at Coachella this year.

Interpol – The Heinrich Maneuver (Phone Remix)

Le Castle Vania is another cat that throws shows with Treasure Fingers at the monthly gig ‘Fuck Yesss’ in Atlanta. I want to fly out, but the tickets are three hundred bucks. Who wants to spend that kind of money to go to Atlanta?
