Apparently, some people feel so strongly about it that they are actively parking these cars on the street to make it happen. Personally, I do think it is past time for this to happen. The sidewalks are just no enough room for the art and thousands of viewers visiting the street. I am sure that the congestion on the sidewalks cause many families with small children to not attend.

Jonathan Maus at Bike Portland has the full run-down on this great idea. Can we donate funds to these people to get more cars and pay for their towing fines? Can anyone tell me a reason why we shouldn't support the closing of this street to cars during Last Thursday?

It is once again Last Thursday on Alberta Street. Unlike all the others so far this year, this one has good weather. These pictures are from last summer and give a good indication of what happens when there is good weather and a party.

Last Thursday is March 27th! Solo show with beloved Portlander and jaw-droppingly talented, Ashley Montague. Have you ever seen this guy live-paint? Damn. Come to the partay at 7pm...free keg, DJ Tao Jones will be spinning. After party at Moloko on N. Mississippi where Ash will be droppin some beats. Put it on your calendar now - don't be a slacker. We love Ashley and so should you.

As if that wasn't enough, I've also been  spending a great deal of time on my latest novel, working title: Last Thurday. As I work through the process of noveling, ideas occur to me for short essays. I've begun collecting them on my new writing blog Words for Writers.

Please accept my apologies for not being a more attentive FS blogger. I'll get back on track soon, I promise. And I'll have lots of pics to post, too! Say tuned.

February Last Thursday!

Show opens Thursday, Feb. 28th, 7pmish. Homies Raskoe and Chris Semer are flying out all the way from Columbus, Ohio to bring us an awesome show and a special surprise as well. Raskoe's involvement with us goes back to the days of Street Level where he had some rad paintings and did some sticker and pillow designs for us. We love him and his best buddy Chris.

Come drink beer and get down to local DJ Lob Robster...7pmish 'til late. There are rumors of a choreographed Britney Spears vs. Justin Timberlake dance competition, OMG.

Show runs Feb. 28th through Mar. 27th.

Every Tuesday night Zilla Sake has an open mic night. Now usually when you think of open mic night badly sung covers come to mind but not here. The talent at Zilla Sake's open mic night is pretty incredible. While there are a lot of covers, there is also a bunch of really great original music. My friend E Jeff Einowski has been running the sound board and recording the performers for the past couple months and producing a podcast, called open mic scout, out of it, which can be downloaded here: open mic scout . It's quite a treasure being able to listen to high quailty live recordings from the night (a lot which could rival studio recorded songs). That said, I highly recommend you check out the site.

This Tuesday, E asked if I would come and take photos of the artists (up until now he has been just using a crappy 2megapixel camera). I eagerly obliged. Being indoors in a darkly lit setting I had to use my canon speedlight flash. Now in the past I haven't been to happy with the photos produced with the flash so I was a little skeptical of how they would turn out. Luckily at the venue I was able to bounce the flash of the ceiling to create a softer, more diffused light than if I were to shoot the flash straight at the subject (which creates and shows very harsh shadows; not to mention very sweaty faces).

So before you put your cute on and head up to Alberta for Last Thursday festivities, stop by one of the markets to load up on the best available fresh, local, organic produce, small-batch cheeses and artisan baked items, because I'm sure you've noticed that the mercury has been inching stealthily down and that means Portlandia's six-month social hibernation is imminent...

Yes, the Clown House, on the corner of 25th and Alberta, hosted their final Last Thursday event with special guest stars The B:C Clettes. The girls had the crowd jumping and rumors were abound that Portland's very own Sprockettes would be performing.

Even though a few of the Sprockettes were spotted in the crowd and helping out behind the scene at at the Clown House they did not perform. Well, I left kind of early so maybe I just missed it. Anyway, for all of youz guyz that stayed in (or went to the symphony at the Waterfront Park), here are a couple of pictures from the Last Last Thursday at the Clown House.
