Diana Krall llena  conciertos con su voz grave, su piano y su jazz: inteligente y trabajadora, con un marido que le compone y arregla (Elvis Costelo) y con su base de estudios en Berklee -no Berkeley-, la mejor universidad de música del mundo probablemente (con una beca, por cierto). Se ha hecho a sí misma y no sólo triunfa por su cara bonita. Es el resultado de una educación, de un trabajo. En paralelo está la por todos querida Amy, con 5 Grammys esta año, un disco Back to Black espectacular, una gran personalidad y una voz grave de vértigo... pero que se debate entre el alcohol y la droga. Amy partía con ventaja: su familia judía de Londres podía haberle educado con más exigencia, antes de dejarle coger una guitarra e irse sin más por los pubs a cantar. En fin, dos cantantes extraordinarias con una educación distinta.

It was a concert that promotes that Toronto once again was a safe city after the massive SARS outbreak that claimed 43 lives in the city. Many conventions and conferences were cancelled. Movie production was turned away. Hotel occupancy rates were down and the fact that many tour operators were reporting a sudden sharp in decline for bookings and such. The World Health Organization (WHO) has placed the city under the list of transmissions where the SARS outbreak is most active. The quarantine lasted for at least a month or so.

I was in Grade 11 at the time of the outbreak and both my mom and my dad worked as registered nurses and they too were coping with the incidental precautions being implemented. Anyways, back to my story…there were at least two SARS-benefit concerts that took place in the Downtown core and at Downsview Park (401 and Allen Rd.). The concert that I had attended was performed by Canadian artists and the concert was dubbed the “Concert for Toronto”. On that day on June 21st, 2003 – it marked my first step on having my good dose of punk rock music. The CanCon concert was completely sold out at that time, but subsequently announced that another block of tickets were held.

The Concert:

They were taking place down at the Air Canada Centre and Skydome (now known as the Rogers Centre). At the Skydome, there were mostly some rock performers that appeal to a younger crowd: Swollen Members, Our Lady Peace, Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Barenaked Ladies and The Tragically Hip. At least 50,000 people were in attendance at the time. Meanwhile, not far away at the Air Canada Centre, the attendance was in somewhat of a small scale – 20,000 people. The performers who were there at the ACC include: Jann Arden, Diana Krall, Sarah McLachlan, Glenn Lewis and Remy Shand. All together these performances combined well over 70,000 people in attendance. A video link was provided between the two venues so people at the Air Canada Centre can watch the performance down at the Skydome (and vice versa). I and my sister went to the Skydome to see my favourite bands Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne, but I didn’t have a chance to see BNL perform. I was however, can see Jann Arden and Sarah McLachlan perform at the ACC through a video link. From my experience, it was such a hardcore concert.

Hot enough for you?:

Before we went to the Skydome, me and my sister went to a restaurant called the Richtree Market (iirc, it was named the Marché Movenpick) down on Front and Yonge Street (iirc). The restaurant looks like a cafeteria to some and the food is very good and a bit expensive to my humble opinion (about $10 to $15CDN whichever is more). The waiter entertains us very well. We discussed to him about the concert we are going and he was very generous to us, he gave me an ice tea because the weather was really hot at the time. Anyways, we went to the Skydome without incident and by the time we arrived, Swollen Members performed. Inside the venue, my friend Brittany was at the concert and she was able to provide us some good seats. The tickets that we bought were very crappy because sat almost as high up to the ceiling which really gives us some poor acoustics. After I meet up with her, we went downstairs to the respective level and finally we got the place that is almost (if not) closer to the stage, but that’s how far we went.

After we settled our seats, we watched the performances throughout the remainder of the night. We left home sometime after 7 or 8p.m. back to Union Station and took the GO Train home. We have to stop off at Pickering because (at that time), trains only terminate at Pickering with bus connections to Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville and Newcastle. We catched our GO bus back to Ajax and took the local bus home.

Epilogue (the conclusion):

Shortly after the concert, a number of promotions were being held in which tourist attractions offered special discounts for concert goers. The only thing they have to present was – their ticket stub. Roots, a Canadian clothing company was selling the “I Love Toronto” t-shirts (a play-on-words expression with the “I Love NY” campaign, but a Canadian Maple Leaf was placed instead of the heart) at their stores (which I was able to get a month later) and proceeds of those shirts were contributed to SARS research. El domingo a la mañana amanece con uno de los golpes más fuertes del otoño: la combinación del feriado, las hojas en el suelo más la lluvia insistente puede llevarlo a uno a sentirse casi desesperanzador, tristísimo, gris, frío y solitario.

Para despejar cualquier atisbo de alguna de estas cuestiones, caliento mi alma con un buen café y con algo de música.

Conocí el tema musical Fly me to the moon en la película "Once Around" protagonizada por Richard Dreyfuss y Holly Hunter.

Pero este tema se ha utilizado en innumerables series y películas, además de pasar por muchos intérpretes.

Personalmente me quedo con la versión de Sinatra, aunque Diana Krall (video) hace también una interpretación magistral.

Fly me to the moon fue grabada en 1954 por Kaye Ballard (en el programa de televisión "The Mothers-in-Law"). La versión 1954 de Ballard fue lanzada por Decca Records con número 29114. En 1956 que fue registrada por Portia Nelson para su álbum "Let Me Love You". El mismo año, Johnny Mathis registró la canción, esta fue la primera vez que el título "Fly me to the Moon" aparecía en una etiqueta de registro.

Felicia Sanders, la cantante original de la canción grabó a canción en 1959.

Me he prometido a mi misma - que una consigo misma tiene mucha autoridad, aun- no escribir sobre el debate de ayer entre Zapatero y Rajoy, y especificamente sobre las no propuestas que no escuche sobre las posturas de ambos respecto a los que componemos la llamada Sociedad de la Informacion, o las TIC. Pero voy a hacer una pequeña trampa, y os contaré un cuento. De todas maneras hay mucha, demasiada politica en el ambiente, y un cuento, o tal vez una fábula, de vez en cuando no viene nada mal. Luego que cada uno saque sus propias conclusiones.

questo breve articolo ha lo scopo di spiegarvi questo strano rallentamento nelle attività del progettino. Come ben saprete anke il progettino, essendo un mezzo d'informazione ad alto potenziale, è costretto a piegarsi a chi gestisce i traffici illeciti della sua zona d'influenza. Ora pare che quest'influenza stia cambiando...

Il dominio di queste attività al limite della legalità è sempre stato gestito da colui che chiamano il Santo Krall, ma ora le cose per lui diventano ogni giorno più dure. Come un vecchio boss, Krall sta subendo una specie di ammutinamento da quello che era uno dei suoi fidati scugnizzi: Il ragazzo barba. Tornato da una dura turnè in Africa alla ricerca di manodopera a basso costo, Barba ha trovato parecchio sostegno nei signori della guerra locali, questi lo hanno spinto a tentare di rovesciare il regno del terrore imposto dal Santo Krall nella povera colonia bustocchiogliana per imporne uno nuovo. LIAM SWICK: Countless fans lined up for hours at both the Skydome and Air Canada Centre as the Concert for Toronto concert is held at both venues. Initial reports that the tickets for the concerts at both venues were sold out, but management decided to sell another block of tickets.

LIAM: Which artist or artists did you see tonight?

FAN #1: Avril Lavigne.

JERRY BOHEN: While I’m a great fan of the Tragically Hip, Jann Arden, Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne, my father is a great fan of Jann Arden. Is that right, dad?

NEIL BOHEN: Yes! Jann’s songs remind me of my life as I grew up over my childhood years and reliving the past. As a result I almost cried….other than that, this is one performance I will remember.

LIAM: Back at the Skydome, Sum 41 pleases fans that their performance will be a memorable one. [Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley talks to the fans] [Cut to Barenaked Ladies covered with medical masks talking to the crowd] But the funniest part of the evening was the Barenaked Ladies; they started off the show – with a funny twist. The entire concert at both venues lasted for six hours. [Cut to screaming fans outside the concert venue] After the party’s over, they decided to sing along a line of their favourite songs by their favourite artists as they prance all the way the Union Station, where the majority of concert goers live in the 905 area and such. [Cut to reporter outside] Now at this time, management of the concert have not yet decided when to provide a special broadcast of the performance live on national TV nor they haven’t provide a plan on releasing the entire concert all on DVD. However management told us that the concert they had organized will be a moment they won’t forget. Proceeds of the ticket sales will go to SARS research. On the other hand, the concert had provided a morale boost to Toronto’s devastating tourist industry – and they had a long way to go. SIMON: After the success of the concert, Roots, a Canadian clothing company managed to sell the “I love T.O.” t-shirts and many related merchandise to that at all of their stores in the Toronto Area, which I am wearing right now. The shirt is slightly wrinkled and accumulated with dust now, but those were the memories I won’t forget. Proceeds of the clothing were contributed to SARS research. As for the plan to release for the entire concert on DVD, nothing has turned out to this day. David "Brownsound" Bakash, one of the members of Sum 41 seen in that report had since left Sum 41 back in May 2006 and now he is in his own band called the Brown Brigade. Deryck Whibley also seen in that report, married Avril Lavigne back in July 2006. The two are currently living in Los Angeles, California. And a piece of personal trivia, I actually as a number of fans, attended the concert, but the majority of those fans went to the Skydome mainly for the rock acts, when I started to get my interest in punk music some 5 years ago. Jest to reportaż napisany na podstawie rozmowy z zastępcą komendanta ŻOB - Markiem Edelmanem. Opisuje życie i śmierć, które w czasie wojny były pojęciami paradoksalnie bliskoznacznymi. Dwa przeciwieństwa, między którymi zaciera się granica.

Czytając Zdążyć przed Panem Bogiem, można odnieść wrażenie, że słowa Edelmana nie wyrażają żadnych konkretnych emocji. Mówi o tym co było. O życiu w getcie, o ile można je było nazwać życiem, i o śmierci, której właściwie każdy się spodziewał. Opowiada o głodzie, który w tamtych czasach był bardzo powszechnym problemem, a także o badaniach, które miały na celu sprawdzenie jak długo człowiek może wytrzymać bez pożywienia i co w trakcie badań będzie się działo z jego organizmem.

Książka pisana zrozumiałym językiem przedstawia w obrazowy sposób to, co już się wydarzyło, czego nie można zmienić, ale o czym powinno się pamiętać.

Ho bisogno di voi, il pc-barbone attende la sua ottimale configurazione e per arrivare a cio' mi serve il vostro aiuto, so che in questo genere di cose siete tutti dei piccoli esperti, soprattutto Krall quindi datemi una mano, se è quella che usate per le vostre cose vedete almeno che sia ben lavata.

La prima domanda che si fa quando si acquista un pc è questa: "che ci devi fare?"

ah ah lo sappiamo tutti cosa ci devo fare.. ma oltre a quello mi piacerebbe sfruttarlo un po' come media center il che non guasta mai... consumare poco ma senza esagerare, la corrente, per ora, non costa poi cosi tanto e l'ambiente con un piccolo risparmio già lo aiutiamo.

Mi sono posto un altra domanda. Epia?
La risposta è stata chiaramente no. Consuma poco e non va un cazzo, se tengo il pc spento consuma meno e fa lo stesso lavoro, questo mi serve per farvi capire che un pokino di prestazioni mi possono servire.

- Intel o Amd?
Amd intel, sarai brava quanto vuoi a fare i core duo ma costi ancora troppo, e poi amd è pù simpatica perchè è sponsor ufficiale del battutodromo di RUB.

Altre domande non mene sono poste tranne qualche dubbio
- Sulle micro atx ci vanno delle ddr 2 apposite?(ho delle idee a riguardo ma non le voglio esporre per non condizionare l'aiuto del pubblico)
- Mi basteranno 250W x l'Alimentatore? mi piacerebbe trovare in giro i consumi di skeda madre video, hd,dvd, ma meli dicono in pochi...

I also would have Diana Krall singing - anything but I particularly like the CDs When I Look in Your Eyes or The Look of Love most of all. I was turned onto Diana Krall by a Canadian friend who picked her out as singing a number on the soundtrack of a movie we were seeing. I can't remember if it was Random Hearts or the other movie we saw that weekend.
