En zo zorgt de sluiting van de ring voor een versnelde opwarming van het klimaat. Of zijn we ook alweer vergeten dat de mens met zijn dwaze economische principes verantwoordelijk is voor de klimaatverandering? Hoe we dan ooit die (povere) maar haast onhaalbare Kyoto en post-Kyoto doelstellingen moeten halen is vast geen zorg voor de BAM. En nog minder voor die politici die al meer dan een jaar naast de kwestie zitten te leuteren.

Others who plunged into the heaving waves lost consciousness and some life-rafts capsized. "Many of us jumped, the waves were so huge, and the rains were heavy," a survivor identified only as Jesse told local radio.

"There was just one announcement over the megaphone, about 30 minutes before the ship tilted to its side." "Immediately after I jumped, the ship tilted, the older people were left on the ship." It is unclear exactly when the ferry capsized but the coast guard knew on Saturday the vessel was in trouble but could not reach the area because of high seas and bad weather.

Four people have been confirmed dead but most of the 620-plus passengers and 121 crew remain missing. According to the ship's manifest, there were 20 children and 33 infants on board.

In Iloilo province, floodwaters forced hundreds of residents on rooftops in the riverside town of Pavia as rescuers were hampered by strong rains and lack of rubber boats to reach those in need, officials said.

Daarna zal hij waarschijnlijk nog in kracht toenemen en doorgaan tot aan de Zuid-Chinese kust van Macao en Hong-Kong.

Veel Europeanen, schrijft Charles Grant in een opiniestuk in de Financial Times , schrikken terug voor ,,that kind of balance-of-power politics. They believe that the big challenges – climate change, energy security, migration and terrorism – require co-operation among all the leading powers, rather than just the democratic ones, and strong multilateral institutions.” Grant stelt dat Europa bij uitstek geschikt is om China, waar een hevig debat woedt tussen nationalisten en multileralisten, te laten kiezen voor een constructieve rol in de wereld. ,,As consistent proponents of multilateralism, Europeans are best placed to make the case to China for working through international institutions. OVERLEG- EN SAMENWERKINGSMODEL: De Linkse Europese (en wereld) beweging, die pleit voor stevige dialoog via de bestaande en nieuwe internationale organisaties (VN, ASEAN, AU, ...) en het maken van afspraken ivm de toekomst en de te nemen maatregelen rond milieu, armoedebstrijding, ontwikkeling, voedselverzekering, e.a. (ook gesteund door Democratisch Pres. Kandidaat Barack Obama, de PES (Europese Sociaal-Democraten), e.a.)

Mij lijkt de derde optie nog steeds de veiligste en de stevigste. Ik wil zeker niet meegaan in het confrontatie-denken van Rechts Amerika. We weten goed genoeg waar dat op uitloopt, is het niet? Daarom is het ook een zegen dat Obama zo'n goeie kans maakt op het eindresultaat.

Moeilijkheid is dat Google wel heel wat fantastische zaken in de aanbieding heeft, en nog gratis ook. Naast hun zoekmachine bieden ze fantastische diensten in de vorm van een Google account. Daaronder kan je heel wat nuttige diensten verzamelen zoals een kalender, wegenkaarten, een fotodatabase, een plek om tekstdocumenten te stockeren en de onmisbare GoogleReader waarmee je al je favoriete blogs op één plek kan volgen. En je kan uiteraard je favorieten (bookmarks) in je Googleaccount bewaren. Daarnaast kan je allerlei leuke, interessante en simpelweg onnozele widgets activeren. Het maakt je online leven een stuk efficiënter en leuker.

Je zou bij dat alles haast vergeten andere zoekmachines in overweging te nemen. Door in te spelen op de bezorgdheid over ons klimaat, wil Yahoo wat tegengewicht inbrengen. Als je hun nieuwe zoekmachine ecocho gebruikt, draag je bij elke zoekactie bij aan het planten van bomen. Elke duizend zoekacties leveren twee bomen op.
