<p style="text-align:left;">Hear me out. I didn't really dig <em>Load</em> and<em> Re-Load</em>. The <em>S&#38;M</em> stuff was just OK. Unlike the rest of the world, I actually loved<em> St. Anger</em>. It was gritty, raw, and daring: a new experiment needed to liven up an otherwise stale metal sound. People complained about the tinny production, and a plethora of other things leading Metallica to run back to their roots for their latest: <em>Death Magnetic.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:left;">But did they really need to run back so soon? <em>Death Magnetic</em> just feels forced. During the <em>St. Anger</em> sessions, Kirk Hammett made note about not wanting to add long guitar solos to a song for no reason. He said that the solos had to suit the song in question.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">SO WHAT HAPPENED, KIRK!?!? The new record isn't <em>bad</em>, per se, but it just feels like the band let the "old school fans" lead the way. "Here's what they want, I guess we have to give it to them." Yanno what I say? Fuck the old schoolers. And fuck the music fans that can't accept that it's no longer 1985.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Although I understand that I'm the minority in the land of St. Anger-ville, <em>St. Anger</em> was still a step in the right direction.<em> Death Magnetic</em>? Two steps back.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://diginformacion.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/metallica1.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-805" style="border:0 none;margin:10px;" title="metallica1" src="http://diginformacion.wordpress.com/files/2008/09/metallica1.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="300" /></a>Ser un "dinosaurio" del rock no debe ser fácil. <strong>La presión de un pasado glorioso pesa como una losa sobre grupos sin el vigor de antaño ni las ganas de la juventud.</strong> Por eso, a veces, parece más lógico plantearse una retirada digna, que manchar un legado supuestamente brillante. Sin embargo, <strong>todavía se agarran a su "talento" contrastado, para seguir confiando en volver por donde solían...</strong> y si no, tampoco importa mucho, pues el prestigio les permite seguir vendiendo millones de discos a costa de unos fans entregados y en muchos casos cegados.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Ese es el caso de Metallica, otrora reyes del metal, ahora una caricatura de sí mismos</strong>. Hay que remontarse a 1991 para encontrar un disco digno de este grupo (el conocido como "black album"), porque desde entonces sólo ha habido medianías, un par de canciones interesantes, y mucha, demasiada, vergüenza ajena. Así pasó con <em>Load</em>, <em>Reload</em>, <em>St. Anger</em> y ahora pasa con <em>Death Magnetic</em>, aunque es evidente que hay matices.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Su último álbum, el dichoso <em>St. Anger</em>, era un ladrillo indigesto, interminable (y casi abominable) d<a href="http://diginformacion.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/metallica.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-806" style="border:0 none;margin:10px;" title="metallica" src="http://diginformacion.wordpress.com/files/2008/09/metallica.jpg?w=239" alt="" width="239" height="300" /></a>onde, en un intento por actualizar su sonido, Metallica acababan mostrándose como un grupo perdido, sin ideas, ni dirección. Aquellas baterías enlatadas, las guitarras saturadas, la ausencia de solos... fue una idea valiente (un gran adjetivo para excusar malas decisiones) pero mal enfocada. Por eso ahora, surge <em><strong>Death Magnetic</strong></em>, como una reacción a lo que fue St. Anger, como un regreso al pasado, <strong>una vuelta a los orígenes, al sonido 100% trash-metal, ese que había muerto tras <em>...And Justice For All</em> (1988)</strong>.  Por eso, cuando empieza "That Was Just Your Life" hay un atisbo de esperanza, hay energía, potencia, solos, buen sonido (quizás excesivamente saturado...), una batería que deja de sonar a lata de pintura y un Hetfield en forma.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Pero es sólo un espejismo, porque <strong>si este disco peca de algo es de repetitivo, largo, pesado, aburrido y al final, tan extenuante como <em>St. Anger</em>, es decir, imposible de escuchar entero</strong>. Las canciones se suceden y entre los aciertos ("The End of the Line"), se cuelan constantemente canciones que mezclan, otra vez sin acierto, ecos de sus discos míticos, con lo peor <a href="http://diginformacion.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/metallica2.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-807" style="border:0 none;margin:10px;" title="SWEDEN METALLICA" src="http://diginformacion.wordpress.com/files/2008/09/metallica2.jpg?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="219" /></a>de la renovación post-black album ("Cyanide", "All Nightmare Long"). Todo aderezado con un auto-homenaje complaciente ("The Day That Never Comes") y una canción que roza el sonrojo (The Unforgiven III).</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Lo peor que puede hacer un grupo sin inspiración es escribir canciones interminable donde salen a relucir con más frecuencia sus errores y sus vergüenzas. <strong>¿Era necesario que la mayoría de canciones rocen los siete minutos?</strong>. Para que un disco de casi 80 minutos sea bueno tiene que haber material de sobra... aquí todo suena a descartes de un grupo que vive de las rentas. Ni siquiera merece la pena hacer metáforas facilonas con el ataúd de la portada...</p>

<p>El guitarrista de esta legendaria banda norteamericana admitió hace poco que casi se retira para perseguir una carrera en solitario.<br />
<a href="http://kirkhammett.net/">Hammet</a> iba a salirse del grupo luego del lanzamiento de su disco St Anger del 2003, debido a la enorme tensión que hubo durante las sesiones de grabación del mismo.</p>
<p>“La verdad es que yo ya estaba listo para trabajar en un nuevo disco por mi cuenta. Tenía mucho material que estaba terminando por aquellos días y estaba pensando en pedirle a Lars que tocara la batería en algunas de las canciones”, comentó Kirk.</p>
<p>Afortunadamente esto no sucedió y actualmente podemos tenerlos de vuelta con el imponente Death Magnetic, que está teniendo un gran éxito en ventas. Aqui os dejo con el bueno de Kirk enseñandoos como tocar el album "Master Of Puppets".</p>

<p><a href="http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/content_display/reviews/albums/e3i4bd22674ba7598a8aa83f8b1cda40ad6" target="_blank"><em>Billboard</em></a> — Metallica can't win for losing. Many of the band's fans still consider the gajillion-selling "Black Album" an unforgiven sellout that blazed the trail for years of Bob Seger covers and that Napster-based unpleasantness. Those fans are targeted squarely by "Death Magnetic," the long-threatened One That Sounds Like '80s Metallica Again. The bountiful 80 minutes are packed with titanic multipart epics that feature scary-looking song titles. They're all marked by Lars Ulrich's all-but-perfected stomp and the eyebrow-scorching virtuosity of James Hetfield, who roars about anger and self-flagellation, and Kirk Hammett, who conducts proton-collision experiments on tracks like "That Was Just Your Life" and the album's best, "Broken, Beat &#38; Scarred." But virtuosity can be impressive without being particularly enjoyable, and it's hard to shake the feeling that for all the potent-as-ever prowess here, "Death Magnetic" is more a stamp of authenticity than a complete record.</p>

<p>Oh, the controversy! I guess Metallica hasn't been able please anyone since they released the Black Album way in back 1991. I'm referring to the great mix/master controversy that has gone on about this album. Is it really THAT bad? I don't think so. Admittedly, I don't have the ears to pick up things like this, but for what I'm playing my CD through, everything sounds fine (other than some of the drums which I think are a bit too much like<em> St. Anger</em> sometimes).</p>
<p>There's always been a very vocal group of Metallica "fans" that complain about everything the band has done since <em>...And Justice for All</em> and they're out in full force again over this one. I'm not saying there isn't a difference between the album mix and say the Guitar Hero III downloads, but to *most* people, it's not an outstanding difference and they'll do just fine listening to the CD. There's no need to jump off a bridge over this (or to get Metallica and/or Warner Bros. to do the same).</p>
<p>Now, to the music-- Easily the best stuff they've put out since the Black Album (which I happen to think is great, so those same "fans" can stick it). It's a return to their heydays and a lot more focused than the emo <em>St. Anger</em>.</p>
<p>Many of these songs harken back to their 80s material such as "This Was Just Your Life" and "My Apocalypse", but there's also some Black Album sounds on songs such as "The Day That Never Comes" and "The End of the Line".</p>
<p>Even <em>Load</em>/<em>Reload</em> influences appear with "The Unforgiven III", which is a pretty unnecessary sequel. "The Unforgiven" was great, "The Unforgiven II" was good, "The Unforgiven III" is just filler. At least they tried doing something different, whereas the first two "Unforgiven" songs were sonically similar, but it just screams <em>Load</em> to me and that's not what I wanna hear.</p>
<p>Definitely one of 2008's best releases. Oh yeah, one more big positive for this album... GUITAR SOLOS!</p>
<p>But alas, not all is well with this release (which for strange reason won't play in my car stereo without clipping)... The packaging could've used some more thought. When it's on the shelf at the store, it looks great. The old Metallica logo is back in silver and you've got "DEATH MAGNETIC" right on the front as well. But you tear off the shrink wrap and what do you get? Nothing, because the text is a PART of the shrink wrap. I originally thought I had torn the cover while tearing the plastic open! The design with the coffin holes is pretty cool, but it needs SOMETHING covering it because I can just imagine this CD getting snagged and torn easily thanks to the open hole on the front. Also, thanks to the coffin hole, some of the lyrics are cut out, when they could've easily shifted them *around* the hole. Minor quibble, but worth quibbling about nonetheless.</p>

<p>In the 23-minute question-and-answer session, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett spoke about the ideas behind the album and their revamped internet strategies. Hetfield showed healthy sense of humor during the conference and even Kirk Hammett tried to be funny.</p>
<p><strong>Loudness War</strong></p>
<p>According to mastering engineer <a href="http://mastering-media.blogspot.com/2008/09/metallica-death-magnetic-stop-loudness.html">Ian Sheperd</a>, Metallica's new <em>Death Magnetic</em> album has a serious sonic problem: it has been compressed just about as much as it's possible to compress audio.</p>

<p>Faccio un po' di nomi: AC/DC, Metallica, Queen, The Police.</p>
<p>Sul nostro sito avete già avuto modo di conoscere le ultime news riguardanti l'ultimo album dei Metallica, Death Magnetic, e vi rimando ai due post (<a href="http://nerdsopolis.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/recensione-quadrata-del-nuovo-album-dei-metallica/" target="_blank">qui</a> e <a href="http://nerdsopolis.wordpress.com/2008/08/25/metallica2008-death-magnetic/" target="_blank">qui</a>) scritti da pongi se volete saperne di più. Non mi dilungherò quindi in recensioni o descrizioni (nerdsopolis però ha per voi una sorpesina che vedrete nei prossimi giorni) ma vi rimando semplicemente alla fine di questo mio post perchè c'è una piccola chicca.</p>
<p>Per quello che riguarda gli AC/DC, se ascoltate Virgin Radio, saprete sicuramente che è uscito il nuovo singolo Rock 'N Roll Train. L'album, che si chiamerà <a href="http://delrock.it/articoli/2008-08/ac-dc-arriva-black-ice.php" target="_blank">Black Ice</a>, uscirà in ottobre.</p>
<p>Anche i Queen (+ Paul Rodgers) usciranno tra qualche giorno con il nuovo album <a href="http://www.virginradioitaly.it/top/magazine/news/queen_the_cosmos_rocks.html" target="_blank">The Cosmos Rock</a> dedicato alla memoria di Freddie Mercury.</p>
<p>I Police, infine, dichiarano per la ennesima volta la fine del gruppo. La conclusione del mega super tour di reunion verrà infatti sancita da un disco live dal titolo <a href="http://www.virginradioitaly.it/top/magazine/news/the_police_nuovo_disco_live.html" target="_blank">The Police: Certiflable</a>.</p>

Su cosa? Sul fatto che per vendere ancora qualche disco - e per disco intendo fisicamente un cd con copertina e libretto - bisogna evidentemente puntare sui vecchi fan. O meglio sui fan affermati: che si tratti di un ventenne che ha scoperto i Police o i Queen dopo il loro scioglimento, o che si tratti di un metallone che ascolta il suo gruppo preferito da vent'anni, le majors sanno che i fan sfegatati comprano sempre il disco dei loro begnamini.</p>
<p>E allora ricicliamo tutto quello che si può raschiare dal fondo del barile!!</p>
<p>Con un po' di acidità nel sangue - lo faccio solo per rendere il post interessante? Boh! - mi viene da dire che il nuovo disco dei Metallica è un disperato tentativo di tornare a suonare canzoni simili a quelle che suonavano negli anni d'oro; quello degli AC/DC è il riuscitissimo tentativo di suonare gli stessi 3 powerchords in fila (e non c'è nulla di strano); i Queen abusano evidentemente del nome "QUEEN"; i Police hanno ancora, assolutamente, bisogno di soldi e fanno l'ennesimo disco con le solite 5 canzoni.</p>
<p>Non fraintendetemi... io ascolto avidamente il nuovo disco dei Metallica, controllo giornalmente il sito degli AC/DC in attesa dell'annuncio del nuovo tour in europa, venero Brian May e Roger Taylor, sono stato al concerto dei Police a Stoccolma un'anno fa.... però nel fare tutto questo mi sento un po' inculato ed ho l'impressione di non guadagnarci nulla dal punto di vista intelletual-musicale.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Metallica - Death Magnetic (Release Year - 2008)]]></title>

This album will certainly be a major conversation piece in the hard rock and heavy metal world.  I can't think of another album released this year that will receive an equal amount of love and hate.</p>
<p>The question most people have been wondering is if this disc surpasses Metallica's last effort, the awful<strong> St. Anger</strong>.</p>
<p>The first time I saw the cover art, I thought it was pretty terrible.  I still don't think it is great, but the way the cover is cut does make it kind of cool, and if anything, unique.  Thankfully, the music is better than the cover art!  Death Magnetic is cram packed with music. This CD has over 70 minutes of music.  The first two songs together clock in at 15 minutes in length by themselves.</p>
<p>Death Magnetic is not a detour from Metallica's roots ala the <em><strong>Black</strong></em> and <em><strong>Load </strong></em>albums.  There are a couple of instances, where the album slows down just enough, so fans of the Black/Load era Metallica will find something to sink their teeth into.  In fact, on Death Magnetic, <strong>Metallica </strong>does a pretty good job blending the sound of all of their past albums (with the exception of St. Anger).  The end result is a heavy album that I think most fans will be pleased with.</p>
<p>Death Magnetic starts off in heavy fashion with "<strong>That Was Just Your Life</strong>".  The music on this song is awesome, and easily one of the heaviest songs <strong>Metallica</strong> has done since their album, <em><strong>And Justice For All</strong></em>.  I thought the vocals of <strong>James Hetfield </strong>were mixed a little too low on this song, but the music is so full of headbanging goodness that the mixing quickly becomes an after thought.</p>
<p>"<strong>The End of The Line</strong>" is another long heavy cut with a crazy amount of guitar solos by <strong>Kirk Hammett</strong>.  If this song doesn't ignite your inner head banger, your headphones must be broken.</p>
<p>Chances are you have already heard the first single off of <em>Death Magnetic</em>, "<strong>The Day That Never Comes</strong>". I immediately took a liking to this song.  I though it was a nice mix of the Black album, with a mix of <em>Master of the Puppets </em>thrashing guitar solos by <strong>Kirk Hammett</strong>.</p>
<p>"Suicide &#38; Redemption" might be the heaviest and longest instrumental track that I have ever heard.</p>
<p>I didn't care for the track "Cyanide" at first, but repeated plays has completely changed my mind.  I like this track a lot now.  Some other highlights for me are "<strong>Broken, Beat &#38; Scarred"</strong>, <strong>and "The Judas Kiss".</strong></p>
<p>The Bottom line, <strong>Death Magnetic</strong> is a great return to form by <strong>Metallica</strong>.  Yes, folks that is right Metallica still has <em><strong>it, </strong></em>and if you haven't bought <em>Death Magnetic</em>, you should go get it!</p>

<p>Really? Oh Jesus. Metallica finally released an album after five years, and I went to best buy to purchase it with my hard earned dollars (hint hint: Marketing companies, send me free CDs, I'll review them, and if they suck, I won't be mad about spending money.) Is it awesome? Is it shitty? Is everyone going to compare it to old Metallica shit? Maybe, maybe, and yes, definitely.</p>

<p>Alright, this is supposed to be what a magnetic field looks like I'm guessing? I think that's the coffin from the cover of <em>Master of Puppets</em> too. What's it doing in there?! I couldn't figure out what this shit what when I saw it from a distance. I thought it was a finger print at first, and I didn't get it. I still don't get it. In my opinion it looks like a hairy pussy. Sorta. Who the fuck has been designing these album covers as of late? Did anyone see the photoshop job on Wu-Tang's <em>8 Diagrams</em>? Absolutely awful. This piece of garbage isn't any better. I was hoping there would be a bloody sword, or viking or some shit on the cover, but that's okay. It's about the music these days! Forget image!</p>
<p><strong>Music/Production/Rick Rubin is the shit</strong></p>
<p>As a fan of Metallica, I'm almost ashamed to admit that I haven't listened to any album after their eponymous album. Only the singles to those albums. Apparently those sucked major dick, and the only Metallica you need to listen to is 83-91. Forget about 96-03. For the most part, their old shit was hard, heavy and fast. It was mothafuckin' thrash metal. Then that trick ass Bob Rock showed them how to make money, and the rest is history. Well, they got rid of that fellow, and for the first time in..18 years..?, they worked with a new producer; Rick "I have money" Rubin. Rick must not have been fucking around when they reached out to him. </p>
<p><strong>Lars and Co.:</strong> Hey Rick, produce our new shit.<br />
<strong>Rick:</strong> Sure. Let me finish up this strange country shit I'm working on, and the new Clipse album, and I'll help you geezers out.<br />
<strong>Lars and Co.:</strong> Woo!</p>
<p>I haven't heard Metallica rock this much since their old shit. Everything about the album just sounds so natural. I may get killed for typing this, but the album almost sounds like what they would have released between <em>Ride the Lightning</em> and <em>Master of Puppets</em>. There was no question Rick Rubin would reflect his genius on this project. I mean, this is the guy that produced "99 Problems." Of course Metallica was going to hire him. Anyway, the drums have never sounded as menacing as they do on this album, and the machine gun riffs ("All Nightmare Long," "My Apocalypse") from Hammet/Hetfield are sure to get any bro amped to ride his bike, brah, and if you're one of those long haired dudes that wears his Maiden/'82/Agusta tour t-shirt, there's plenty of moments for you to air-guitar in your underwear as Hammett has never been better ("That Was Just Your Life," "Unforgiven III"). I'm sure Trujillo kills it or whatever, but I can't even hear the bass most of the time, not because it's recorded low or anything, it's just that I've been spoiled by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqPkTgbbzZA">The Gap Band</a>. </p>
<p><strong>Vocals/Lyrics</strong></p>
<p>James Hetfield is one of the classic <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW2TRS9rmKE">voices</a> in all of music. I'm comfortable typing that. I'm also comfortable saying He's also one of the founding fathers of "I hope we all die" type of lyrics, example: "<em>Crushing metal, ripping skin/ tossing body mannequin/ Spilling blood, bleeding gas/ Mangled flesh, snapping spine/ Dripping bloody valentine/ Shattered face, spitting glass.</em>" Somewhere, Kerry King is listening to this album, taking some notes. It isn't always about the end of the world with these guys, though. They sometimes write songs about weird <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cGvzApDZKI">old men in their underwear </a>(that shit scared the fuck out of me when I was 6). In "Unforgiven III", James sings about some shit that doesn't have to do with death and destruction, but good 'ol lighthearted depression, "<em>How can I be lost, if I've got nowhere to go?/ Searched the seas of gold, how come it's got so cold?</em>" I don't know, I think they should have left "Unforgiven" alone after the first one.</p>
<p><strong>Do I like this shit?</strong></p>
<p>Yes. <em>Death Magnetic</em> is like a return to form for Metallica. I don't think they ever "lost it," but they sure deviated away from the OG shit, and people didn't dig it because they weren't making updated versions of <em>Kill 'Em All</em>, or <em>Master of Puppets</em>. Whatever, I'm sure all you elitists that listen will enjoy the album. Now, someone get Dave Mustaine on the phone, and tell him to gather the "classic" Megadeth lineup. I need some more Friedman in my life.</p>

<p>After an intense amount of criticism from the die hard fans over 'St. Anger' Metallica promised to go back to their old winning formula of powerful singing, kickass riffs and face melting guitar solo's. <!--more--></p>
<p>The Rolling Stone said  "<span class="content"><em>Death Magnetic</em> is the musical equivalent of Russia's invasion of Georgia — a sudden act of aggression from a sleeping giant." I couldn't have worded it better myself.</span></p>
<p>The ten track album clocks in at 74 minutes, with all the songs breaking five minutes. The general theme of the album is, as one might guess, death. Opening up with '<strong>That Was Just Your Life</strong>', which begins with a faint heart beat and builds slowly and sinisterly, eventually kicking off into a thrash drummers heaven to give but a taste of what is to come on the rest of the album.</p>
<p>The album feels like a combination of their old material. Combine <em>...And Justice For All</em> and <em>The Black Album</em> with parts of <em>Load</em> and <em>Reload</em> and the result could be <em>Death Magnetic</em>. Not all the songs are complete thrash, especially '<strong>The Unforgiven III</strong>' (following on from The Unforgiven from <em>The Black Album</em> and The Unforgiven II from <em>Reload</em>). The first single to be released, '<strong>The Day That Never Comes</strong>', brings back fond memories of 'One' and 'Fade to Black'. The old metallica instrumentals are also back '<strong>Suicide and Redemption</strong>' is by far one of the heaviest and best instrumentals they've ever produced.</p>
<p>Kirk Hammett must have been told not to hold back at all this time around, with blisteringly fast solos. Many songs contain several solos, rather than just being restrained to one. Hetfield on the other hand may have lost his voice from the 80s, but his singing is still brilliant though the lyrics aren't exactly the best. Ulrich never seems to slow down either thank god he did not follow through with his tennis career.</p>
<p>From the top level singing from Hetfield, to the powerful solos from Hammett, this is the album all Metallica fans have been waiting for since the early 90s. Definitely a potential album of the year, and certainly not to be missed. Welcome back Metallica...we missed you.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Metallica</em>..just the name of the band brings so much imagery to mind. So many memories..so many songs..such a "vibe" that existed around the mid 80's, early 90's that seemingly, could never be re-created.</p>
<p>One of "those bands" that just had their hey-day, and everyone moved on, never really expecting that band to produce that again..(although many had high hopes!)</p>
<p>"Let them rest in peace", many fans said, after their last few albums, including <em>St. Anger</em>, which failed to drum up much of a response.</p>
<p>Let's face it, <em>Metallica</em> didn't have much going for them in the way of PR considering the very un-popular stand they took with the <em>Napster</em> lawsuits in 2000-2001. This huge public faux-pas, coupled with their "change in direction" musically after hiring <em>Bob Rock</em> as their producer who contributed to their *ahem* "new sound" didn't do much for their popularity in the new decade to follow. I think it's safe to claim that a large number of die-hard, old-school <em>Metallica</em> fans had lost hope. Would we ever hear such quality albums such as "<em>Ride the Lightening</em>", "<em>Master of Puppets"</em>? Or even "<em>And Justice for All</em>?" A resounding NO was what everyone thought.</p>
<p>But hey, miracles happen every day!</p>
<p>And why not to <em>Metallica</em> ?</p>
<p><em>Metallica </em>has pulled off a new miracle!</p>
<p>It's called "<em>Death Magnetic</em>"---released September 2008.</p>

<p>In this tribute can I leave out <em>Robert Trujillo</em>? Former Bassist of <em>Suicidal Tendencies</em> and <em>Ozzy Osbourne,</em> who contributed strongly to the songwriting of this album..a monster bassist? No way.</p>
<p>Outstanding guitar work by <em>Kirk Hammett</em>, whom has reinvented himself since the old days of <em>Metallica</em>--must be given props. Think of solos from the albums "<em>Ride the Lightening</em>", and "<em>Master of Puppets</em>". Kirk has sincerely challenged himself as a player and musician..amazing lead and counter-melody work.</p>
<p><em>Lars Ulrich</em>..drummer for <em>Metallica</em>--has never sounded as fierce since he has on "<em>Ride the Lightening</em>" or "<em>Master of Puppets</em>"..amazing double kicks..blazing rhythms..tremendous off-kicks..Lars has found his second wind.</p>
<p><em>James Hetfield</em>--as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist..has exceeded my expectations since becoming sober..after battling for years with alcohol demons, Hetfield has come back, this time, on top of the game...no..his voice does not sound like it used to...but almost better in recent years.</p>
<p>Songwriting is like it used to be, most songs are 6 mins and beyond..sagas of true crunch..intricate songwriting. Almost a symphony...in the true metal style that that this foursome once perfected.</p>
<p>Craving <em>Metallica</em>, the way you used to listen?</p>
<p>You're in for an auditory orgasm.</p>
<p>The congelation of these four, renewed by <em>Rick Rubin</em> equals orchestratic prefection..metal style.</p>
<p>Learn from them.</p>
<p>And don't forget to say hey, "Welcome back <em>Metallica</em>...We've been waiting!"</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">La trayectoria de Metallica ha sido muy diferente a la de la mayor parte de las agrupaciones, no solo del heavy metal sino del rock en general, con un origen garagero, la banda llego con una energía, una vitalidad, y una capacidad creativa tan notoria que en muy poco tiempo logro situarse como virtual progenitora del trash metal. Con discos que no daban concesión alguna y otros que los hicieron decaer, Metallica conserva aun su aura de leyenda y eso le alcanza para seguir trascendiendo en estos 25 años de carrera, como lo hace ahora, con su nuevo disco Death Magnetic.</span><!--more--></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">Con mas de 100 millones de discos vendidos alrededor del mundo, séptimo fenómeno de ventas en la historia de la música, un arsenal impresionante y polifónico de metal repartido entre diez discos, Metallica se ha convertido en el grupo de heavy metal de mayor peso en la historia reciente del genero, sacándolo de su agujero, y poniéndolo en primer plano dentro de la industria, espalda con espalda con grupos como Slayer, Sepultura, Ántrax, etc; que han metido de lleno el heavy en un territorio, que hasta antes de ellos, lo despreciaban. El proceso de su ahora décimo disco de estudio fue un proceso muy grande, comencemos recordando esto el 6 junio del 2006 [06/06/06], fecha en la que Metallica presento una nueva canción en Berlin, Alemania, llamada “The New Song” [Death is not the End], un tema bueno en su estructura que daba indicios no solo de la realización de un nuevo álbum, si no del regreso a canciones contundentes, Hammet al mando de la guitarra con solos que ya muchos esperaban, y un sonido que prometía volver a sus raíces.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">Después de terminada su gira Sick Of The Studio 2006 donde presentaron estas nuevas canciones, el disco se empezó a grabar el 14 de Marzo de 2007 producido por Rick Rubin, la expectativa era mucha, con 2 canciones presentadas en la gira, una duda por la calidad de estas, en especial por "The Other New Song", que hicieron pensar que este nuevo trabajo no pasaria a ser un simple disco mas de Metallica. Entonces durante el proceso de grabación Robert Trujillo, actual bajista de la banda, indicó que las 2 canciones estrenadas en el tour Sick Of The Studio 2006, "The New Song" [Death Is Not The End] y "The Other New Song" [Vulturous], no formarían parte del nuevo álbum en su plenitud, y que solo porciones de estas quedarían en el. Para Mayo de 2008 apareció el sitio “Misión Metallica”, brindando a los fans un adelanto del nuevo álbum, antes de que este estuviera terminado, y experimentar el proceso de creación, con videos de ensayos en el set, conversaciones acerca del álbum, detalles técnicos de sonido y estructura de las canciones, en fin, una gran galería audiovisual de su nuevo trabajo, que creo la iniciativa de ver que su trabajo iba muy bien, y la verdad, contra lo que se temía, no sonaba nada mal.</span></p>

Los latidos del corazón agitados de “That Was Just Your Life” son los mismos que teníamos nosotros por haber estado esperando por años este retorno. Algo muy simbólico, una canción que bien podría haber sido su primer lanzamiento para presentar el álbum, pero siempre hay que dejar lo mejor para el final.</span></p>

Una canción que demuestra el ascenso hacia un sonido que todos ya extrañábamos. </span></p>

En gran parte del corte lanzan la guitarra sin distorsiones, limpiecita, y aún así, suena como una canción nueva, en ella se nota la influencia de sus anteriores discos pero mezclando el sonido ochentero, que le brindan al álbum un sonido gigante, pulido, y duro.</span></p>

A diferencia de las otras versiones de The Unforgiven, este tema empieza con un sonido de piano en el intro de la canción, con una voz joven de James Hetfield, que parece un nuevo vocalista en escena, y que la canción le responde al esfuerzo, ¿el final de la trilogía? Es un tema estupendo, con un ritmo que te atrapa y con Hammet en la guitarra, que sigue demostrando que no por nada es uno de los 10 mejores guitarristas de la historia, una canción refrescante, que nos da un pequeño descanso para lo que viene, el receso mas relajante que nos ofrece Death Magnetic, que le baja el acalorado ritmo a un disco de gran potencia, y que no aguadan el disco, pero a pesar de que “The Unforgiven” del “The Black Album” será la mejor, curiosamente y para sorpresa de muchos, esta, si le responde al reto.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">“Suicide &#38; Redemption” es la canción mas personal del álbum para James Hetfield, la mas extensa y donde la banda demuestra todavía su vitalidad, un tema instrumental que el grupo retoma casi 20 años después tras el tema “To Live Is To Die” composición a modo de homenaje póstumo que la banda brindó a su anteriormente bajista Cliff Burton, fallecido en un accidente de tráfico en 1986 y que podemos encontrar en el disco “...And Justice For All” de 1989. El tema da a notar como un excelente bajista a Robert Trujillo, pero el echo de que no tenga mas protagonismo dentro del mismo es por que como el dijo: “James Hetfield fue quien escribió gran parte de las guitarras del tema y es quien toca los solos ahí. Ese tema es como un hijo para él y tampoco quería meterle más cosas en la canción. No me hubiera sentido bien si le hubiera preguntado si podía meter una sección instrumental propia en ella. Sería como meterme en su territorio y yo no quería entrometerme”.</span></p>

Este sonido tan característico del grupo viene claramente influenciado por anteriores canciones de la banda como “Dyers Eve”, “Damage, Inc.” y “The Struggle Within”, que suponen también los últimos temas de los discos “...And Justice for All”, “Master of Puppets” y “The Black Album”. El tema que afirma que hay que</span> <span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">mirar nuevamente a las raíces y que un grupo puede cometer errores en la vida, en esa exploración musical que debería ser propia de todo artista, donde siempre existira la redención, y Death Magnetic lo demostró.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">Los 4 jinetes vuelven a sonar, y aunque el album fue subido a la red gracias a una falla de distribución que lanzó el disco en algunas tiendas de Francia el día 2 de septiembre [10 dias antes que el lanzamiento oficial a nivel mundial] con lo cual algunos usuarios rippearon el album esparciendose la noticia casi de inmediato entre los miles de seguidores, esto ya no es un problema y no creo que lo sea en la época que vivimos, por que como lo dijo Lars, esto ya no es tan controversial como hace 10 o 15 años, y ya ahora es conciente que así son las cosas en la nueva industria musical. Este disco promete cosechar grandes éxitos y redimir viejos errores, sin duda St. Anger<span> </span>fue un intento mal dirigido, pero no es un mal disco, en especial si no han visto “Metallica: Some Kind A Monster”, es lógico que digan eso, pero ahora es indiscutible que tuvieron que pasar por todo ese camino para llegar a Death Magnetic, sin duda Rick Rubin merece los aplausos por impulsar a la banda a retomar esto, un productor estupendo, que impulso la carrera de uno de mis artistas favoritos al final de su vida: Johnny Cash.“Rick nos inculcó un mantra en la mente que era: no tengan miedo de su pasado. No tienen que copiarlo, pero no está mal que se inspiren en él”, dijo Lars Ulrich al mencionar la gran influencia que tuvo el productor con ellos. El disco quiza no sea el mejor y eso todos lo sabemos, pero es un renovado trabajo que nos recuerda el viejo sonido, y le llega a la altura a los mejores discos de la banda para ser considerado tambien como uno de los mas buenos, muchos dicen "ya no suenan igual", obvio que no, asi como tu, no eres el mismo de ayer, pero a pesar de eso siempre tendras la influencia del pasado, por que tambien forma parte de lo que eres y de tu vida, pero no me meto mas a fondo en esto, ya que muchos ni siquiera lo entenderian, </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">como escribi anteriormente,</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;"> </span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">un grupo puede cometer errores en la vida, en esa exploración musical que debería ser propia de todo artista, donde siempre existira la redención</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:gray;">. Asi con una hora y quince minutos de estupendo metal repartido en 10 canciones, Death Magnetic logra lo que muchos no creían, y los fanaticos lo agradecen a su banda, con canciones que no se sienten muy largas, y las mejores combinan la habilidad melódica del trabajo más maduro de Metallica, con el poder de batalla totalmente armado y preparado desde sus primeros días. Bendita la Muerte Magnética. </span></p>

<title><![CDATA[Metallica Gets A+ in Creating Fan-Friendly Content; Lars, Too, Gets A+]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are those who are shocked how Metallica has become so fan-friendly of late. I mean, they have excelled with this angle in promoting the new album, <em>Death Magnetic</em>. And it's more than just promotion. They are really embracing their fans.</p>
<p>Some are surprised because we are not far removed from the time when drummer Lars Ulrich and Metallica turned in their own fans for what the band considered to be piracy (or known to fans as simply file sharing).</p>
<p>But I'm not shocked by the friendly fan embrace. What shocked me was when they took the tough stance on file sharing. <em>That</em> shocked me. Afterall, it was guys like Lars Ulrich who used to trade music demos and tapes of NWOBHM bands with other music fans and metal pen pals all over the world. Lars, for instance, was the ultimate fan. He, basically, file shared... but on a smaller scale. I know because I was doing the same thing at the time.</p>
<p>And it is Lars, especially, that has drawn a lot of criticism for his actions. But I think he is the man behind all this recent good cheer. The fan-friendly embrace is more than promotion of new material or schmoozing the fans back. This is the REAL Lars. In essence, this is the REAL Metallica. Welcome back.</p>
<p>Lars may have a huge ego — that can be inevitable with any rock star — but I have always liked the guy. Not just for his solid drumming or band leadership but because he is a true fan. He loves music. Lars is one of my favorite rock musicians because he is one of us.</p>

CD</a>).</p>

<p>The new song; “The Judas Kiss” is the fourth, and final song to be made available before the album is released in its entirety this Friday.</p>
<p>Rounding out the preview of the album, “The Judas Kiss” joins “The Day That Never Comes”, “My Apocalypse”, and “Cyanide”, to give fans a full understanding of what Metallica has in store for them.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><strong><em><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Cada día de la semana sacaré una reseña de los 4 discos clásicos de METALLICA, para celebrar su retorno a los brazos del metal.</span></em></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><strong><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Acabo de sacar del archivero la copia del primer disco de Metallica: <em>Kill´Em All</em> y los primeros platillazos de Hit The Lights comienza a inundar las ondas auditivas.<span>  </span>Dejen a un lado sus-aburridos-<em>iphones </em>G3. Tiren por la borda sus-insensibles-<em>ipods</em>. La música debe de ser escuchada desde un estéreo y a altos decibeles. Acomódense en su sillón favorito y hojeen el folleto del disco, que es como se debe de escuchar la buena música. Tener la libertad de movimiento para agitar su cuerpo y menear (si la tienen) su melena. Así es como se escucha la música pesada.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Podría decir, con certeza, que <em>Kill ´EM ALL es </em>el primer gran disco de metal. Aquellos puristas que lean esto, de seguro, se darán golpes de pecho enunciando Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden o Mercyful Fate o cuanto más grupo se les ocurra. Mi aseveración se da ya que ningún otro grupo de Heavy Metal ha logrado capturar con tanta fuerza desde su primer disco: potentes ritmos de guitarras, requintos prodigiosos y un bajo-distorsionado-que logra lo impensable; sonar como una tercera guitarra rítmica. Las letras de las canciones se convierten en un juego visual que aborda desde la llegada de los 4 caballeros del Apocalipsis hasta las peleas callejeras afuera de los conciertos de la banda. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Desde la primera canción (<em>Hit The Lights</em>) se anuncia la llegada de Metallica como un grupo importante. Comienza con la resonancia de la batería y las guitarras como si acabaran de terminar de tocar otra canción. De inmediato se da rienda suelta a la guitarra rítmica de James Hetfield y segundos después se desata el infierno. La segunda canción del disco: <em>The Four Horsemen</em>, es considerada por muchos su pieza clásica. Es el ejemplo típico de lo que define una gran canción de Metallica. Dura casi ocho minutos, comienza con velocidad, por ahí de la mitad el ritmo se disminuye para permitir un duelo de guitarras, para después volver a cobrar rapidez y culminar con un solo de guitarra del-prodigioso-Kirk Hammett. Podrá describirse con facilidad pero la compleja estructuración de la canción lo hace tan diferente a todo lo que existía hasta ese momento. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Iron Maiden eran el bastión del Heavy Metal hasta 1983, que fue cuando salió el disco. Ellos promovieron mucho el cambio de ritmo en sus canciones, pero fueron los miembros de Metallica los que lo llevaron a un plano completamente innovador. Para decirlo de otra manera, integraron todos los diversos ritmos de la canción para que sonaran como un todo. Nunca se pierde la idea de que estás escuchando la misma canción; como sí sucede con rolas de Maiden como <em>Murders in the Rue Morgue</em>, que aunque es grandiosa, cada que cambian las guitarras, pareciera que estás escuchando una canción completamente distinta.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Damos paso a <em>Motorbreath</em>, divertida rola que comienza con un excelente redoble de batería. La canción número 4 es <em>Jump In The Fire</em> que cambia las guitarras veloces por riffs pesados y resonantes. El track 5 da un vuelco por completo al álbum. Es un solo de bajo, del fallecido Cliff Burton. Es la única canción del disco que por un momento transciende el heavy metal y ofrece una verdadera armonía. Además de que el sonido distorsionado que logra con su pedalera es magnífico. Nadie, desde su muerte en 1986, ha logrado hacer sonar un bajo de esa manera. A mi gusto comienza la leyenda de los Dioses del Metal con esta pieza: <em>Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)</em>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Para la segunda mitad de <em>Kill ´Em All</em>, básicamente se trata de que el escucha se abroche su cinturón de seguridad y trate de sobrevivir el golpeteo del mazo de la muerte de Metallica. Los últimos 5 tracks son veloces, agresivos y sanguinarios. La cabeza dolerá de tanto agitarla con un magnífico riff de guitarra tras otro. A lo largo de la incesante <em>Whiplash</em>, la magnífica <em>Phantom Lord</em>, la bélica brillantez de <em>No Remorse</em>, el clásico de clásicos de <em>Seek &#38; Destroy</em> y el cierre con la brutal <em>Metal Militia</em> y su “Metal Up Your Ass”. <em></em></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Para todos aquellos coleccionistas y fanáticos, existe una versión del disco (importada) por supuesto que viene con otros dos cortes musicales: <em>Am I Evil</em> y<em> Blitzkrieg</em>. Que aunque son covers, estos logran sonar con igual potencia y dureza como todo lo anterior.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;" lang="ES-MX">Un excelente disco. Un clásico de metal sin duda alguna. Cómprenlo, bájenlo en línea. Como sea escúchenlo. Si son novicios tengo toda la envidia de que van a escuchar con frescura todos estos cortes clásicos. Si van por su milésima escuchada como yo. Levanto mi mano en señal de pesado y agito la cabeza con ustedes mis compañeros Metallicos. </span></p>

Le précédent album de Metallica. "Saint Anger" en 2003, était le fruit d’une période de crise dans l’histoire du quatuor de San Francisco, un documentaire en a été tirée : "Some Kind Of Monster". Avec "Death Magnetic", la résurrection annoncée commence par un cœur qui bat (Metallica still alive !) et des arpèges dont le groupe cultive le secret. Le son de la grande époque, "Master Of Puppets" ou "And Justice For All", est là, présent, lourd, menaçant. Le groupe est mort de faim, ça s’entend. On aime. Le débit de mitraillette de James est là sur le jouissif et libérateur "That Was Just Your Life". Le cru s’annonce excellent. Est-ce le revival thrash metal de ces derniers mois qui a donné des ailes et du cœur au groupe fondateur du genre ? Quoi qu’il en soit, l’envie est là, palpable, les fans peuvent se réjouir. Avec "The End Of The Line", on se croirait presque revenu à l‘époque de "Creeping Death". Allier mélodie et hargne a toujours était le point fort de Metallica et "Broken, Beat And Scared" ou "The Day That Never Comes" s’inscrivent dans cette veine. Seul bémol, un troisième chapitre de "The Unforgiven" pas vraiment indispensable avec piano et violons à l'appuie... Sinon, les solos de Kirk sont de retour et les morceaux foisonnent de breaks ravageurs, de passages épiques à deux guitares ! Comment continuer à garder son statut de N°1 du metal quand on approche de la cinquantaine. La réponse est là.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Il gruppo fu fondato il <a title="28 ottobre" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/28_ottobre">28 ottobre</a> <a title="1981" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981">1981</a> dal <a title="Cantante" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantante">cantante</a> e <a title="Chitarrista" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitarrista">chitarrista</a> <a title="James Hetfield" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hetfield">James Hetfield</a> e dal <a title="Batterista" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batterista">batterista</a> <a title="Lars Ulrich" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Ulrich">Lars Ulrich</a>. I due, conosciutisi poche settimane prima tramite un annuncio sulla rivista statunitense <em><a title="The Recycler" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Recycler">The Recycler</a></em>, in poche settimane reclutarono il bassista <a title="Ron McGovney" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_McGovney">Ron McGovney</a> ed alcuni chitarristi transitori, tra cui Brad Parker e Jeff Warner. La loro prima sessione di prove fu sostenuta nel garage di Ulrich, da quest'ultimo, da Hetfield e da Lloyd Grant.</p>
<p>Il moniker Metallica fu coniato nel <a title="1982" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982">1982</a>. Il batterista <a title="Lars Ulrich" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Ulrich">Lars Ulrich</a> stava infatti aiutando Ron Quintana, un agente di spettacolo specializzato nel lancio di gruppi emergenti, a scegliere un nome per una rivista da lui fondata con gli intenti di promuovere gruppi <a title="Heavy metal" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal">metal</a> e <a title="New Wave of British Heavy Metal" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_of_British_Heavy_Metal">New Wave of British Heavy Metal</a>. Quintana propose a Ulrich due nomi: "Metallica" e "Metal Mania"; Lars disse che Metal Mania era un nome che si addiceva di più ad un giornale e decise invece di utilizzare "Metallica" per denominare il suo nuovo gruppo,<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-7">[</a></sup>scartando di fatto gli altri moniker "Blitzer", "Grinder", "Red Vette" e "Hcirlu Sral" (lo stesso nome di Lars letto al contrario).</p>
<p>Nei primi mesi del <a title="1982" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982">1982</a> i Metallica registrarono la loro prima canzone, <em>Hit the Lights</em>, che fu pubblicata nella raccolta <em>Metal Massacre</em> e poi inserita nella futura lista tracce del loro primo disco. Fu Lars Ulrich a convincere <a title="Brian Slagel" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Slagel">Brian Slagel</a>, capo della <a title="Metal Blade Records" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Blade_Records">Metal Blade Records</a>, ad inserire il brano nella raccolta. Gli assoli chitarristici della prima versione di <em>Hit the Lights</em> furono composti da Lloyd Grant, il quale non divenne però mai un componente stabile del gruppo. Infatti, pochi mesi dopo questa pubblicazione, Ulrich ingaggiò come chitarrista definitivo dei Metallica <a title="Dave Mustaine" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Mustaine">Dave Mustaine</a>, originario di <a title="Huntington Beach" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntington_Beach">Huntington Beach</a> ed ex membro dei <a class="new" title="Panic (gruppo musicale) (pagina inesistente)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Panic_%28gruppo_musicale%29&#38;action=edit&#38;redlink=1">Panic</a>.</p>
<p>Pochi mesi dopo questo cambio di formazione i Metallica registrarono il demo <em><a title="No Life 'Til Leather" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Life_%27Til_Leather">No Life 'Til Leather</a></em>, che iniziò a dare fama al gruppo. Intanto però, a causa di litigi con Mustaine, McGovney se ne andò e la band, in cerca di un sostituto, decise di assistere ad un'esibizione del bassista dei <a title="Trauma (gruppo musicale)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trauma_%28gruppo_musicale%29">Trauma</a> <a title="Cliff Burton" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Burton">Cliff Burton</a>. Lars e James lo videro durante la San Francisco Metal Night, e da quel momento rimasero colpiti dalla sua abilità; i tre musicisti decisero di reclutarlo immediatamente. Cliff accettò praticamente subito di unirsi ai Metallica, alla sola condizione che la band trasferisse la sua sede a <a title="San Francisco" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco">San Francisco</a>, poiché Burton non aveva molta stima di <a title="Los Angeles" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles">Los Angeles</a>, definita troppo caotica dal musicista. Accettata la proposta, Cliff diede immediatamente il suo apporto alla band, contribuendo con la sua tecnica musicale e con nuove idee a livello compositivo; il contributo di Burton fu, per molti, essenziale per il futuro successo internazionale dei Metallica.</p>

<p>Nel <a title="1983" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983">1983</a>, dopo alcuni concerti di piccola entità, i quattro si recarono a <a title="Rochester (New York)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochester_%28New_York%29">Rochester</a>, <a title="New York" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York">New York</a>, per cominciare le prime registrazioni con <a class="new" title="Jon Zazula (pagina inesistente)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jon_Zazula&#38;action=edit&#38;redlink=1">Jon Zazula</a> e la <a title="Megaforce Records" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaforce_Records">Megaforce Records</a>. Subito dopo l'arrivo a New York Dave Mustaine venne sostituito dal chitarrista <a title="Kirk Hammett" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Hammett">Kirk Hammett</a>, ex membro degli <a title="Exodus (gruppo musicale)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exodus_%28gruppo_musicale%29">Exodus</a>.<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-met.com_hist1-6"></a></sup> Mustaine se ne andò dal gruppo e fondò successivamente i <a title="Megadeth" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megadeth">Megadeth</a>.</p>
<p>Lo stesso anno fu completato il primo album dei Metallica, intitolato <em><a title="Kill 'Em All" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_%27Em_All">Kill 'Em All</a></em> (<a title="1983" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983">1983</a>) e prodotto da Zazula e <a class="new" title="Paul Curcio (pagina inesistente)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Paul_Curcio&#38;action=edit&#38;redlink=1">Paul Curcio</a>. Il disco è a tutt'oggi ritenuto uno dei più importanti del genere <a title="Thrash metal" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrash_metal">thrash metal</a>, grazie anche a canzoni storiche come <em>Hit the Lights</em>, <em>The Four Horsemen</em>, <em><a title="Jump in the Fire" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_in_the_Fire">Jump in the Fire</a></em>,<em><a title="Whiplash (canzone)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiplash_%28canzone%29"> Whiplash</a></em>, <em>Seek &#38; Destroy</em> e <em>Metal Militia</em>. A dimostrazione del suo incredibile successo, l'album vendette in poco tempo 5 milioni di copie.</p>
<p>Nel <a title="1984" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984">1984</a> il quartetto rilasciò un nuovo album, <em><a title="Ride the Lightning" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ride_the_Lightning">Ride the Lightning</a></em>, per la prima volta con <a title="Flemming Rasmussen" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemming_Rasmussen">Flemming Rasmussen</a> alla produzione e sotto contratto con la <a title="Elektra Records" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektra_Records">Elektra Records</a>. Rispetto a <em>Kill 'Em All</em>, questo secondo lavoro presentò una maggiore versatilità nei ritmi ed una presenza più rilevante di sonorità melodiche ed introspettive (come nel caso del brano <em><a title="Fade to Black (canzone)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fade_to_Black_%28canzone%29">Fade to Black</a></em>), oltre all'aggiunta di parti musicali capaci di mettere in maggiore rilievo la tecnica chitarristica di Kirk Hammett (come nel caso di <em>Trapped Under Ice</em> e della <a title="Bibbia" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibbia">biblica</a> <em><a title="Creeping Death" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creeping_Death">Creeping Death</a></em>). Anche i testi presentarono elementi più ricercati, ad esempio quello di <em><a title="For Whom the Bell Tolls (Metallica)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Whom_the_Bell_Tolls_%28Metallica%29">For Whom The Bell Tolls</a></em>, che prese spunto dal sermone di <a title="John Donne" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Donne">John Donne</a> <em><a class="mw-redirect" title="Per chi suona la campana (romanzo)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_chi_suona_la_campana_%28romanzo%29">Per chi suona la campana</a></em> citato poi nel romanzo omonimo di <a title="Ernest Hemingway" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Hemingway">Hemingway</a>. Proprio queste caratteristiche musicali distinsero i Metallica dagli altri grandi gruppi thrash metal del momento, ovvero <a title="Megadeth" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megadeth">Megadeth</a>, <a title="Anthrax" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthrax">Anthrax</a> e <a title="Slayer" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slayer">Slayer</a>, e permisero a <em>Ride the Lightning</em> di vendere circa 8 milioni di copie, di cui oltre la metà nei soli <a title="Stati Uniti d'America" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stati_Uniti_d%27America">Stati Uniti</a>.</p>

<p>Nel <a title="1986" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986">1986</a> i quattro incisero e pubblicarono per la <a title="Elektra Records" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektra_Records">Elektra Records</a> un nuovo album intitolato <em><a title="Master of Puppets" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Puppets">Master of Puppets</a></em>, anch'esso prodotto da <a title="Flemming Rasmussen" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemming_Rasmussen">Flemming Rasmussen</a>. Il disco, di cui ebbero un certo successo radiofonico la title track <em><a title="Master of Puppets (canzone)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Puppets_%28canzone%29">Master of Puppets</a></em> e <em><a title="Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_Home_%28Sanitarium%29">Welcome Home (Sanitarium)</a></em>, è da molti considerato il miglior lavoro dei Metallica mentre da altri addirittura il più importante prodotto del <a title="Thrash metal" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrash_metal">thrash metal</a> e di tutto l'heavy metal in generale.<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-9">[10]</a></sup> <em>Master of Puppets</em> arrivò a piazzarsi alla posizione #29 della classifica <a title="Billboard" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard">Billboard</a>, e fu forte di 12 milioni di copie vendute.<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-10">[11]</a></sup> Al successo del disco contribuì il tour promozionale che schierò la band in alcuni concerti al fianco di <a title="Ozzy Osbourne" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozzy_Osbourne">Ozzy Osbourne</a>.</p>
<p>È risaputo che, a partire da quegli anni, nella band crebbe notevolmente il fenomeno dell'abuso di <a title="Bevanda alcolica" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevanda_alcolica">alcol</a>. Molti critici e fan dei Metallica li soprannominarono per questo "Alcoholica".</p>
<p>Il <a title="27 settembre" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_settembre">27 settembre</a> <a title="1986" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986">1986</a>, durante un <a title="Tour" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour">tour</a> europeo della band, il bus dei Metallica slittò e si ribaltò lungo una strada ghiacciata a <a title="Ljungby" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ljungby">Ljungby</a>, in <a title="Svezia" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svezia">Svezia</a>. Nell'incidente Cliff Burton fu scaraventato fuori da un finestrino e venne mortalmente schiacciato dall'autobus.<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-11">[12]</a></sup> Scioccanti furono le testimonianze degli altri membri del gruppo, sopravvissuti indenni all'incidente. Una delle più forti fu rilasciata da James Hetfield, che disse:</p>

<p>I Metallica si fermarono per qualche tempo, indecisi sul da farsi, e presero in seria considerazione il ritiro dalle scene. Invece, sostenuti anche dai familiari del defunto bassista, decisero di riprendere a suonare e ad onorare la memoria di Burton con nuove tracce.</p>
<p>Molti gruppi dedicarono canzoni a Cliff Burton, che è tutt'oggi ritenuto uno dei migliori bassisti della storia del heavy metal.<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-12">[13]</a></sup> Tra i più famosi vi furono gli <a title="Anthrax" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthrax">Anthrax</a> e i <a title="Megadeth" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megadeth">Megadeth</a>, che composero rispettivamente le canzoni <em>Among the Living</em> e <em>In My Darkest Hour</em>, per commemorare la morte del giovane bassista.</p>

<p>Furono così aperte le audizioni per trovare un nuovo bassista. La scelta cadde all'inizio su <a title="Les Claypool" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Claypool">Les Claypool</a>, amico d'infanzia di Hammett. Hetfield e compagni, però, pur notando le doti del musicista, rinunciarono ad assumerlo a causa del suo stile troppo vicino al <a title="Funk" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funk">funk</a> (insieme all'ex <a title="Possessed" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possessed">Possessed</a> <a title="Larry LaLonde" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_LaLonde">Larry LaLonde</a>, Claypool oggi milita nei <a title="Primus" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primus">Primus</a>). Proseguite le audizioni, il <a title="28 ottobre" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/28_ottobre">28 ottobre</a> <a title="1986" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986">1986</a> <a title="Jason Newsted" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Newsted">Jason Newsted</a>, ex <a title="Flotsam and Jetsam" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flotsam_and_Jetsam">Flotsam and Jetsam</a>, fu annunciato pubblicamente come nuovo bassista dei Metallica.</p>
<p>Poco dopo l'arrivo di Newsted al basso, nei primi mesi del <a title="1987" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987">1987</a>, prese il via il tour <em>Damaged Inc.</em>. Nel luglio dello stesso anno fu anche rilasciato l'EP <em><a title="Garage Days Re-Revisited" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_Days_Re-Revisited">Garage Days Re-Revisited</a></em>, contenente <a title="Cover" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover">cover</a> di gruppi metal ed <a title="Hardcore punk" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_punk">hardcore punk</a>.</p>
<p>Nel <a title="1988" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988">1988</a> il quartetto californiano registrò e pubblicò un nuovo album, <em><a title="...And Justice for All" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/...And_Justice_for_All">...And Justice for All</a></em>. Il disco è considerato, a tutt'oggi, il lavoro più tecnico del gruppo. L'innesto di Jason Newsted non si fece però sentire nell'economia generale dell'album, perché, come sostennero Hetfield e Ulrich, il loro nuovo compagno di band non prese parte al mixaggio. <em>...And Justice for All</em> venne comunque ritenuto un grande lavoro e vendette più di 14 milioni di copie,<sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-13">[14]</a></sup> grazie anche al tour <em><a title="Damaged Justice" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damaged_Justice">Damaged Justice</a></em>, ritenuto uno dei migliori della storia del gruppo.</p>
<p>Da questo album venne estratto anche il primo vero singolo dei Metallica, ovvero <em><a title="One (Metallica)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_%28Metallica%29">One</a></em>, brano che trae ispirazione dal romanzo <a class="mw-redirect" title="Pacifista" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacifista">pacifista</a> di <a title="Dalton Trumbo" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalton_Trumbo">Dalton Trumbo</a> <em><a title="E Johnny prese il fucile (romanzo)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_Johnny_prese_il_fucile_%28romanzo%29">E Johnny prese il fucile</a></em>, in cui si racconta l'allucinante condizione di un soldato della <a class="mw-redirect" title="I guerra mondiale" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_guerra_mondiale">I guerra mondiale</a> rimasto muto, sordo, cieco e privo di braccia e gambe al seguito di un'esplosione. Della traccia fu girato nel <a title="1989" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989">1989</a> il primo video del gruppo, contenente spezzoni dal film tratto dal romanzo, anch'esso diretto da <a title="Dalton Trumbo" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalton_Trumbo">Dalton Trumbo</a><sup class="reference"><a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica#cite_note-14">[15]</a></sup> e anch'esso intitolato <em><a title="E Johnny prese il fucile (film)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_Johnny_prese_il_fucile_%28film%29">E Johnny prese il fucile</a></em>. L'album contenne anche la traccia <em>To Live Is To Die</em>, ultimo brano strumentale della band, dedicato alla memoria di Cliff Burton.</p>

<p><em>Metallica</em> ricevette però anche alcune critiche, specialmente dai fan di vecchia data, che non accettarono l'abbandono seppur parziale delle sonorità thrash a favore di altre più semplici ed orecchiabili. <p>Nel <a title="1993" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993">1993</a> avviarono il <em><a class="new" title="Nowhere Else To Roam Tour (pagina inesistente)" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nowhere_Else_To_Roam_Tour&#38;action=edit&#38;redlink=1">Nowhere Else To Roam Tour</a></em>, di cui una tappa fu tenuta a <a title="Torino" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torino">Torino</a> il <a title="22 giugno" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/22_giugno">22 giugno</a> dello stesso anno, allo <a title="Stadio delle Alpi" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadio_delle_Alpi">Stadio delle Alpi</a>. La città ospitava all'epoca il maggior fan club del gruppo in <a title="Italia" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italia">Italia</a>. A novembre uscì il primo <a title="Album discografico" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album_discografico#Album_live">album live</a> del quartetto di Los Angeles, denominato <em><a title="Binge &#38; Purge" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Shit:_Binge_%26_Purge">Live Shit: Binge &#38; Purge</a></em>.</p>

<p>Il <a title="14 dicembre" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/14_dicembre">14 dicembre</a> <a title="1995" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995">1995</a> i Metallica registrarono il disco <em><a title="The Lemmy's a.k.a. Metallica" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lemmy%27s_a.k.a._Metallica">The Lemmy's a.k.a. Metallica - Happy Birthday, Uncle Rotter!</a></em>, album composto in augurio ai 50 anni di <a title="Lemmy Kilmister" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemmy_Kilmister">Lemmy Kilmister</a>. Il disco fu accompagnato, pochi mesi dopo, da un EP contenente quattro cover dei <a title="Motörhead" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mot%C3%B6rhead">Motörhead</a>.</p>
<p>Nel <a title="1996" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996">1996</a> fu pubblicato l'album <em><a title="Load" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load">Load</a></em>, trainato dai singoli <em><a title="Until It Sleeps" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Until_It_Sleeps">Until It Sleeps</a></em> e <em><a title="Mama Said" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mama_Said">Mama Said</a></em>. In quel periodo avvenne il tanto discusso cambiamento di look dei Metallica, che abbandonarono il look <a class="mw-redirect" title="Metal" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal">metal</a> degli esordi per quello più "pulito" con capelli corti ed abbigliamento da strada, accompagnato da alcuni tatuaggi. Questo mutamento fu avvertito anche a livello musicale: infatti, per la prima volta, la band propose sonorità più simili all'<a title="Hard rock" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_rock">hard rock</a>.</p>
<p>In origine <em>Load</em> fu pensato come doppio album, ma il produttore <a title="Bob Rock" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Rock">Bob Rock</a> e la band scartarono l'idea, preferendo pubblicare l'anno seguente l'album <em><a class="mw-redirect" title="Re-Load" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-Load">Re-Load</a></em>. Questo disco era stilisticamente vicino a <em>Load</em> e conteneva perlopiù rifacimenti di canzoni composte dai quattro per l'album precedente, tra le quali spicca la ormai famosa <em><a title="Fuel" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel">Fuel</a></em>, in origine intitolata <em>Fuel for Fire</em>. Molti di questi brani ebbero un notevole successo radiofonico (<em>Until It Sleeps</em>, <em>Mama Said</em>, <em><a title="Hero of the Day" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_of_the_Day">Hero of the Day</a></em>, <em><a title="King Nothing" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Nothing">King Nothing</a></em>, <em><a title="The Memory Remains" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Memory_Remains">The Memory Remains</a></em>, <em><a title="The Unforgiven II" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unforgiven_II">The Unforgiven II</a></em> e <em>Fuel</em>).</p>
<p>Nel <a title="1998" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998">1998</a> il quartetto registrò il doppio album di cover <em><a title="Garage Inc." href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_Inc.">Garage Inc.</a></em>. Il primo cd del disco conteneva degli inediti, ispirati da band come <a title="Misfits" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misfits">Misfits</a>, <a title="Thin Lizzy" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin_Lizzy">Thin Lizzy</a>, <a title="Mercyful Fate" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercyful_Fate">Mercyful Fate</a>, <a title="Black Sabbath" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sabbath">Black Sabbath</a> e perfino da <a title="Bob Seger" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Seger">Bob Seger</a> (la sua cover <em><a title="Turn the Page" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_the_Page">Turn the Page</a></em>, di discreto successo radiofonico) e <a title="Nick Cave" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Cave">Nick Cave</a>. Il secondo raccoglieva invece tutte le canzoni di <em><a title="Garage Days Re-Revisited" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_Days_Re-Revisited">Garage Days Re-Revisited</a></em>, le cover più recenti e <em><a title="B-side" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-side">b-side</a></em> risalenti al <a title="1984" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984">1984</a>. Dal disco fu estratto anche il singolo <em>Whiskey in the Jar</em>, cover dei Thin Lizzy, vincitore di un <em><a title="Grammy Award" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award">Grammy</a></em> come <em><a class="mw-redirect" title="Best Hard Rock Performance" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_Hard_Rock_Performance">Best Hard Rock Performance</a></em> nel <a title="2000" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000">2000</a>.</p>
<p>Il <a title="7 marzo" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_marzo">7 marzo</a> <a title="1999" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999">1999</a> i quattro vennero inclusi nella "Walk Of Fame" di <a title="San Francisco" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco">San Francisco</a>, e l'allora sindaco Willie Brown proclamò nella città il "giorno ufficiale dei Metallica". Tra il <a title="21 aprile" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/21_aprile">21</a> e il <a title="22 aprile" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/22_aprile">22 aprile</a> dello stesso anno, il gruppo registrò alcune performance con l'orchestra di San Francisco, allora condotta da <a title="Michael Kamen" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Kamen">Michael Kamen</a> (che aveva già collaborato con <a title="Bob Rock" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Rock">Bob Rock</a> in <em><a title="Nothing Else Matters" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_Else_Matters">Nothing Else Matters</a></em>). Aiutato dal suo staff, Kamen compose versioni sinfoniche di brani dei Metallica a partire da <em><a title="Ride the Lightning" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ride_the_Lightning">Ride the Lightning</a></em> del <a title="1984" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984">1984</a> e, insieme al quartetto, scrisse anche i brani <em><a title="No Leaf Clover" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Leaf_Clover">No Leaf Clover</a></em> e <em>Minus Human</em>. Il risultato di questo lavoro fu l'album <em><a title="S&#38;M" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26M">S&#38;M</a></em> (<a title="1999" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999">1999</a>).</p>

<p>Nel <a title="2000" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000">2000</a> il quartetto di <a title="Los Angeles" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles">Los Angeles</a> scoprì che un demo della loro canzone <em><a title="I Disappear" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Disappear">I Disappear</a></em> era stato distribuito gratuitamente su <a title="Internet" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet">Internet</a>, mediante <em><a title="Napster" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napster">Napster</a></em>. La traccia in questione era incompleta ed avrebbe dovuto essere rilasciata in seguito, insieme alla <a title="Colonna sonora" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonna_sonora">colonna sonora</a> di <em><a title="Impossible II" href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission:_Impossible_II">Mission: Impossible II</a></em>.</p>
<p>Dopo aver trovato disponibili sulla rete anche altre loro canzoni, i Metallica avviarono un'azione legale contro Napster. Durante il processo chiesero ai giudici l'espulsione dal sito dei 300.000 utenti che avevano scaricato i loro brani.
