SON OF GOD MEDITATIONS 18 of 20

Mk 9:31,32 He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.

There is this strange feature in the accounts of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ that is quite unnerving. It is his clear awareness, no, clear purpose, that said he was going to Jerusalem and there he would die and there he would rise from the dead. Our example verse above is quite specific. As so often, he referred to himself by that prophetic title, ‘Son of Man' which he used many times. We've seen why in past studies. But note how specific he is: he will be betrayed! Someone is going to give up him. This is spoken way before the events of those last two days. He is then going to be killed and, note it clearly, after three days he will rise. Yet, perhaps quite understandably, his followers didn't understand what he meant. I mean, no one willingly talks about being killed, and as for rising again after three days!!!!

Later on he is even more specific: “From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” (Mt 16:21). Now he explains that those who oppose him, the chief priests and teachers of the law, will join with the elders and bring this about, but the main points are exactly the same: he will be killed and after three days, rise again. On that occasion, not only do they not understand but Peter is quite outspoken in opposition to this idea: “Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!” (Mt 16:22)

On the mount of transfiguration, it is mentioned again: “As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” (Mt 17:9) and then a while later, he repeats it in full content: “When they came together in Galilee , he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." And the disciples were filled with grief.” (Mt 17:22,23)

Later it is repeated: “Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” (Mt 20:17-19) This has even more detail. It will be the Jews who initiate it but it will be the Gentiles (the Romans) who will do it. It will be an unpleasant time to say the least – crucifixion is said to be the worst possible form of execution, designed to cause the most pain possible, and carried out in full view to exert the maximum of deterrent – but he is also going to be mocked and flogged.

Now do you see this, five times it is recorded he warned his disciples that this was going to happen, and as the records show, it was perfectly fulfilled. This raises various points.

First you only talk like this if you are deranged or you are completely in control of your mind and you definitely intend to do it. Everything else about the accounts of the closing weeks and months of Jesus ministry, show him completely in control and of full and sound mind. There is not even a hint that he is getting depressed or negative. He keeps on healing people and he keeps on teaching. His ministry continues unabated.

The second thing to note is that this is not like speaking about committing suicide because he is saying that others will put him to death. He is speaking about how others will respond to him and how they will eventually rise up and kill him. Now if you are aware that you are likely to be upsetting people to this extent, you do not hang around to be killed, unless you want to be! Some have suggested that perhaps he is seeking to provoke his followers into a violent uprising but right up to the end they don't believe it will happen and can't understand it. Apart from Peter's hacking off the servant's ear in the Garden of Gethsemane, there is no sign or indication of any strong feeling about all this in the disciples. They seem almost in denial – as we probably would have been in their shoes. No, there is no idea of provoking an uprising in all this.

Now this brings us to the great mystery for the seeker. Why should Jesus Christ allow himself to be arrested, falsely tried, and crucified, when it is so obvious that he was completely aware of the danger, aware of the probability, aware of what was definitely going to happened if he proceeded on his course into Jerusalem? The human answer HAS to be that he had a death wish, but why when it flies in the face of all the other evidence that is needing to be seen in such a person. Nothing about him in those closing weeks and months fits the profile of a person with a death wish!

The one thing that we have almost missed so far, because the emphasis of this particular meditation is the fact of his death, is his constant references to being raised from the dead after three days. Now if you were a modern illusionist you might manage that because you would be in complete control of the circumstances, but these circumstances in question involve a number of highly political individuals and the most harsh army the world has ever known – and none of those players had any desire for him to come through this ordeal in any form other than dead! Any talk of a con, or illusion or a confidence trick really indicates that people making such suggestions have never taken the trouble to examine the historical realities of the situation.

This is either going to happen in the most terrible of ways or it's just not going to happen. All the records, Biblical and extra-biblical, indicate it happened. He died! So why would he do that unless, completely in line with all his other claims that we have been examining in these studies, he is utterly convinced that he is the unique Son of God and death cannot hold him! This is the only conclusion that any rational investigator is left with. The proof will be in the resurrection, and so we will examine that in the next study.

Former Charger player Terrence Kiel was killed in a car crash when his Cheverolet sedan crashed into a wall. Kiel was ejected from the car and barely breathing when paramedics arrived on the scene. He was driving alone, and a female witness stated she saw Kiel driving in the wrong direction before he lost control of his car. Kiel was 27. Let's take a moment and pray for his family. Nobody dies before their time, we must embrace that fact and live everyday like it's our last....

US, NATO deaths in Afghanistan pass Iraq toll

KABUL, Afghanistan - Militants killed more U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan in June than in Iraq for the second straight month, a grim milestone capping a run of headline-grabbing insurgent attacks that analysts say underscore the Taliban's growing strength.

The fundamentalist militia in June staged a sophisticated jailbreak that freed 886 prisoners, then briefly infiltrated a strategic valley outside Kandahar. Last week, a Pentagon report forecast the Taliban would maintain or increase its pace of attacks, which are already up 40 percent this year from 2007 where U.S. troops operate along the Pakistan border.

Some observers say the insurgency has gained dangerous momentum. And while June also saw the international community meet in Paris to pledge $21 billion in aid, an Afghanistan expert at New York University warns that there is still no strategy to turn that commitment into success.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has noted that more international troops died in Afghanistan than in Iraq in May, the first time that had happened. While that trend — now two months old — is in part due to falling violence in Iraq, it also reflects rising violence in Afghanistan.

At least 45 international troops — including at least 27 U.S. forces and 13 British — died in Afghanistan in June, the deadliest month since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion to oust the Taliban, according to an Associated Press count.

7 People Killed in Helicopter Crash!!

This is really tragic, two medical helicopters collided in mid air killing seven people and critically injuring three. All three people on one copter were killed including the pilot and a patient. There were four killed and three critically injured people on the other copter. Officials say they don't know if all the people were on the copter or if some were on the ground. I will update this information as soon as I get it. Let's pray for those families yall....

A few weeks ago I was in the Half-Price Books in Lynnwood. I'd already made my purchases and was on my way out the door when a book on display caught my eye. At first it was just the one word title: Killed. With a title like that--in bright red, nonetheless--it's bound to catch your eye. But then I read the subtitle: Great Journalism Too Hot to Print. I read the back and basically, it's a collection of articles that never made it to print--some of the reasons being political, that editors thought they would be too controversial or because editors didn't want to upset advertisers or potential advertisers. Articles such as a 1958 essay by The Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan about how women need to take college seriously, Rich Cohen's firsthand account as a pledge for a fraternity in college and T.D. Allman's experiences going back to China ten years after the Tiananmen Square protests as well as catching up with three friends who were very much at the center of the action.

Now, I've only read a few of these stories but from what I've read, this book just further proves the point of my post about our First Amendment rights. I highly recommend this book to journalists both new and old because even after having read only a small handful, it has helped to restore some of my faith in the profession that I've lost due to the over emphasis on celebrity/popular culture. Great journalism is still out there. But then again, the fact that such great writing never really got a chance to see the light of day until this book was printed does sadden me a bit. I greatly admire and take my hat off to the book's editor, David Wallis, for what he's done because I don't think there are many people who would.

Great job Mr. Wallis. I only hope that with your efforts, as well as others in the industry, that when it comes time for me to write a story that has the potential to be similarly controversial, my words will be printed. Just as how and where they are originally intended, not in a book like yours.

I was in a game with some teammates and to win, we had to estimate how much paint we would need to cover the walls of a particular house. We walked into our assigned house--a seaside cabin--and I thought, "this will be easy!" The house was plain and square, with no hidden rooms or trickiness.

We were talking to the owner, a youngish redneck white guy, and he said "These are the names of the people I've already killed, who came before you." He fanned out a bunch of slips of paper. Two of them had my name on them.

Labrador fire claims 5 lives

A child and a teenager have died after a blaze tore through an apartment building in central Labrador on the weekend, bringing the death toll to five, police said Monday.

"The two young people that had been airlifted to St. John's unfortunately passed away last evening," RCMP Cpl. Keith MacKinnon said.

The two were a boy and girl, MacKinnon said, adding that officers are still trying to contact the relatives of all of the victims.

The grim development came as a team of investigators tried to determine the cause of the fire, which also killed two adults and another teenager.

"The investigators are still digging through the scene and interviewing witnesses," MacKinnon said.

Another child is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Labrador Grenfell Hospital. (news)

How, true-

Last year, congressional investigators said as much as $10bn (£5bn) charged by US contractors for Iraq reconstruction had been questionable.

Of course, ignoring that Waxman has NOT allowed Sibel Edmonds to come forward as a whistle-blower, we can expect Congressman Waxman to participate in partisan politics, at least. How is he NOT outraged? ...

Nonetheless, we as Americans have another serious issue on our hands which is NOT BEING REPORTED IN THE AMERICAN MEDIA-

Funny car driver Scott Kalitta killed Saturday during qualifying runs of Lucas Oil NHRA Supernationals in New Jersey.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The NHRA said the 46-year-old Kalitta -- the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion who had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and one in Funny Car -- was taken to the Old Bridge division of Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at about 300 mph when it burst into flames.

He's survived by his father, wife Kathy and sons Corey, 14, and Colin, 8.

Soulja Boy "killed Hip-Hop"

I'm sure many, many people have heard about this by now and I get the tingly feeling inside (purely non-sexual) when someone finally steps up to this garbage by new artist "Soulja Boy" and tells him what I've been thinking for so long: "that shit's garbage". I don't know if this was recorded from the radio or whatever the source but on YouTube a voice recording has been uploaded many times and I love listening to it.

He talks about how people actually came from bad places to make something; to make good music. Clearly, Soulja Boy made it with a lot less effort but creating a "dance" video based on Superman, no less. I don't listen to rap or Hip-Hop anymore because of the garbage out there these days. I used to listen to all the good rappers and these days it's nothing but shit and I hope more artists stand up to this shit that is getting albums. The only reason they're successful is because America doesn't care about the quality as long as you can dance to it.

Whatever the case, it's not real shit but just garbage produced to make someone quick money and people fall for it all the time and it really fucking sucks.

Anyway, now we move on to Souja Boy's intelligible response.

So, this is basically 7 min, 41 seconds of Soulja Boy saying "DIZ NIGGA OLD AZ FUCK" and his two boyfriends laughing in the background. He says he respects Ice-T and then is quick to say "YOU OLD AZ FUK" again and again. Somewhere in this waste of life he states that the "game has changed" and "people have made it easy for new artists to come in" and other shit. But what it all comes down to is that he's essentially admitting that it's a lot easier to get into the game and make a one-hit wonder.

I sincerely hope that I never have to listen to a ridiculous fad such as "CRANK DAT SOULJA BOY" again and if I do, I might have to kill myself. But hopefully we get to see the headline of a paper being "Soulja Boy Assassinated because he fucking sucks" and we all live in peace.

Sikhs take Deputy CM's words, call off protests

Mumbai: The Sikhs have called off their violent agitation till Monday over the killing of a Sikh boy by Dera Sachcha Sauda sect chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's bodyguards.

The agitation was called off temporarily after assurances from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil that strict action will be taken against those involved in the incident.

The Maharashtra government also announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the dead boy and Rs 25,000 for those injured during Friday night’s clash between Dera followers and the Sikh community

On Friday night a group of Sikhs had raised anti-Dera slogans at the Nirmal Lifestyles mall in Mulund during a visit by the sect head. There was a scuffle between the sect chief's supporters and the Sikh group.

During the altercation, the bodyguards allegedly fired killing a Sikh boy.

Esperaron a que anocheciera. El 22 de julio del año pasado unos desconocidos se agazapaban en el bosque, listos para ejecutar a una familia de gorilas. Ocultos en una ladera del volcán Mikeno, en el este de la República Democrática del Congo, los asesinos, provistos de armas automáticas, habían rastreado a los 12 miembros de la familia de Rugendo, conocida por los turistas y muy querida por los guardabosques del Parque Nacional Virunga. El patriarca de esta familia de gorilas, un espalda plateada de 225 kilos llamado Senkwekwe, tal vez percibió que los atacantes estaban cerca, tal vez frunció la nariz al sentir el desagradable olor, pero no debió de alarmarse. A la mañana siguiente, una patrulla encontró a tres gorilas hembras muertas a tiros: Mburanumwe, Neza y Safari, y a la cría de esta última, paralizada por el miedo, a escasa distancia. Al día siguiente se halló el cadáver de Senkwekwe, con el pecho destrozado. Tres semanas después apareció el cuerpo de otra hembra del grupo, Macibiri, y su cría se dio por muerta. Apenas un mes antes fueron atacadas dos hembras y una cría de otro grupo de gorilas. Los guardabosques encontraron a una de las hembras ejecutada de un tiro en la nuca, y a su cría, aún viva, agarrada al pecho de su madre. La otra hembra nunca apareció. Dad gets life after killing his son with 'cocaine fingers'

A man whose teething infant died after apparently sucking on his father's cocaine-tainted fingers has been sentenced to life in prison.

Dennis Ray Driver, 26, was convicted Wednesday of felony murder for the overdose death of his 8-month-old son...

Driver had told investigators that he had chopped up cocaine and the baby later sucked on his fingers.

Driver had at least eight previous convictions, including six that were related to cocaine. The Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday in its online edition that when the baby died, Driver was free on bail on a cocaine possession charge.

That's a really successful rehab program for drug offenders in Houston. Eh?

இலங்கையின் கிழக்கே அம்பாறை மாவட்டம் கல்முனை நகரப் பகுதியில் இன்று காலை இரண்டு பொலிஸ்காரர்கள், அடையாளம் தெரியாத ஆட்களினால் சுட்டுக்கொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள்.

சம்மாந்துறை பொலிஸ் நிலையத்தில் பணியாற்றும் இவர்கள் இருவரும், கல்முனை நீதிமன்றத்துக்கு கடமையின் நிமித்தம் மோட்டார் சைக்கிளில் சென்று கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில், தரவை பிள்ளையார் கோயிலுக்கு அருகாமையில், மற்றுமொரு மோட்டார் சைக்கிளில் வந்த துப்பாக்கி தாரிகளினால் சுடப்பட்டதாக பொலிஸார் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.

இந்த சம்பவம் தொடர்பில் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் மீதே பொலிஸார் தமது சந்தேகத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தியுள்ளனர். கிழக்கு மாகாண சபைத் தேர்தலுக்குப் பின்னர், அதாவது கடந்த 40 நாட்களில் மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தில் 7 பேரும், அம்பாறை மாவட்டத்தில் இரண்டு பேருமாக மொத்தம் 9 பொலிஸார் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

இதற்கிடையே, திருகோணமலை மாவட்டம், மூதூர் மணற்சேனை என்னும் இடத்தில், விடுதலைப்புலிகள் அமைப்பின் உளவுப் பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவரைத் தாம் சுட்டுக்கொன்றதாக இலங்கை பாதுகாப்புப் படையினர் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

அந்தப்பகுதியில் நடத்தப்பட்ட தேடுதல் வேட்டை ஒன்றின்போது, கொல்லப்பட்டவர், விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் திருகோணமலை மாவட்டத்துக்கான தென்பிராந்திய புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவுத் தலைவரான, தங்கன் என்று அழைக்கப்படும் சௌந்திரராஜன் என்று இலங்கை பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
