Armata iraniana a tras astazi cateva rachete, sa le testeze, in apele Golfului.

Are vana si tupeu in el Ahmadinejad asta.

By NIAC via CASMII ∙ July 8, 2008

Wednesday, July 9 is a national call-in day for H.Con.Res 362, the blockade resolution.

H.Con.Res.362 has over 220 cosponsors; is yours one?

Call your member of Congress and ask him or her not to support a blockade on Iran.

Congress is considering this bill at this very moment; now is the time to act to oppose this plan for war. Groups from all over the country are joining together for a national call-in day on H.Con.Res. 362.

This resolution demands that the president initiate an international effort to impose a land, sea, and air blockade on Iran to stop shipments of gasoline, and to subject all cargo entering or leaving Iran to stringent inspection requirements.

Call your representative and ask him or her to oppose the blockade resolution.

Imposing a blockade without United Nations authorization (which the resolution does not call for) would be considered an act of war. Though a vote on this bill has been successfully delayed so far, some Congressional sources say the House could vote on it as early as next week. They need to hear from you before the vote.

Adoption of this resolution would pave the way for war and bypass diplomacy. The immediate effect would be a further increase in oil prices - with gas prices in the US inching closer to $7/gallon and beyond.

Is your representative a cosponsor? Click here to find out.

Tell your member of Congress to oppose H CON RES 362 and join thousands of Americans in the rising chorus of concern over this dangerous legislation.

If your Representative is a co-sponsor: ask them to withdraw their sponsorship.

If your Representative is not a co-sponsor: thank them for not signing on and ask them to work to stop this dangerous legislation from going forward.

My prognostication is that Iran will be the next carob at play in the middle-east morass. But, pay no attention to my musings, because, after all, I picked Al Gore as the eventual Democratic Presidential Nominee. (It's not over yet, Sir G!)

Anyhow, in the news today, Iran is telling Iraq that the presence of United States troops in Iraq are standing in the way of peace between Iran and Iraq. I...am not buying into this one. Admitedly, an ongoing war in the neighborhood can be disturbing to ones peace, but it is difficult for me to swallow Iran as the harbinger of goodness.

Here's the deal. Prior to "the war," the United Nations agreed to a mandate permitting forces to occupy Iraq, and this pact terminates at the end of this year. Currently, the United States and Iraq are in contract negotiations to forge an acceptable "Status of Forces Agreement." This is nothing new or novel, and governments all over the globe have these. Simply, they agree to where a foreign army can put their bases and what they can do whilst there. Kinda like renting a flat and signing the lease in your uniform and moving in with your HUMMER.

Iran has decided that it is not in Iraq's best interest to continue these agreement negotiations, and is urging them not to sign. Bah. Pure politics. Firstly, agreement or not, I doubt very seriously the United States is leaving Iraq anytime soon. Secondly, I believe the only thing keeping Iran from running all over Iraq is the presence of UN, OK, mostly, US forces.

History ALWAYS repeats, and damn, people's memories are short. One of the bloodiest conflicts of all time was the Iraq-Iran War, long fought from 1980 to 1988. Iraq and Iran have been at odds for literally centuries, but Iraq invaded Iran in 1980 to get some oil fields, Iran pushed Iraq out by 1982, and for the next six years, Iran resisted United Nations efforts to bring about a cease-fire.

Anyhow, also announced today, Iran has called for all Iranian banks to transfer assets and investments from European banks to Iran's central bank. This...is a big deal, and in addition to slamming the United States, tells the world how Iran feels about Europe.

Oil...ugh.

Keith Ellison’s Iran Forum and the June 10 Call-In to Congress

By Lydia Howell
On May 28, U.S

Keith Ellison's Iran Forum and the June 10 Call-In to Congress

By Lydia Howell

On May 28, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., hosted Iran scholars for a community forum in a packed hall at the First Unitarian Society church in Minneapolis. The focus was on the U.S.-Iran relationship, estranged for over 30 years, which many fear may become the next chapter in the Bush administration's “war on terrorism.”

“Nary a day goes by that someone isn't saying something abut Iran in the media. Part of my responsibility as a U.S. congressman is to be a forum to discuss the critical issues we face and to promote dialog about the most pressing issues,” said Ellison. “To quote [African-American writer] James Baldwin: Anything that cannot be faced cannot be fixed.”

In the first half of 2008, newspaper front pages and television news have begun repeating a message about a Middle Eastern country that has not attacked the United States but which allegedly “poses a grave threat,” “may build nuclear weapons” and “must be prevented from making war on its neighbors.” In 2002-3, such stories were about Iraq; now, Iran is being described in similar ways. No actual evidence is given for the frightening allegations about Iran—which are too often made by unnamed “Pentagon officials” or the same members of right-wing think tanks that previously pushed the disastrous attack on Iraq.

Ellison said the forum was in preparation for a national call-in June 10, when Americans are urged to phone their representatives and senators, urging that the U.S. not attack Iran. (The toll-free phone number to Congress is 1-888-851-1879.)

University of Minnesota professor William O. Beeman is that rare American: fluent in Farsi and a longtime scholar of Iran's history and culture. His observations on the mounting crisis with Iran were drawn from his newest book on Iran, The Great Satan vs. Mad Mullahs, in which Beeman debunks the main myths being perpetrated by neo-conservatives who are pushing for a U.S. military attack on Iran before George W. Bush leaves office.

“There are three important myths being pushed by the Bush administration in the press and in speeches,” Beeman told the audience.

“First, that Iran has developed an illegal nuclear program. But, the fact is, the United States started Iran's nuclear power program in the 1970s, and Iran has simply continued the U.S.-sponsored program. There is absolutely no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on May 26,” said Beeman, chair of the U. of M.’s Anthropology Department.

Last December, the U.S. government’s National Intelligence Estimate (or NIE, a collaboration among 15 U.S. intelligence agencies) concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and had no nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007. The December 2007 NIE disavowed the 2005 NIE as “inaccurately reported.”

“The newest argument is that Iran is responsible for American deaths in Iraq. No evidence has been provided to prove that,” Beeman continued.

In fact, in May, the Pentagon had to retract statements about insurgents’ weapons being from Iraq. As the Los Angeles Times reported May 8 on its web site: “neither the United States nor Iraq has displayed any of the alleged [Iranian-originated] arms to the public or press, and lately it is looking less likely they will. … Iraqi officials lately have backed off the accusations against Iran. A plan to show some alleged Iranian-supplied explosives to journalists last week in Karbala and then destroy them was canceled after the United States realized none of them was from Iran.” Yet most media continue to repeat the allegation that Iran is supplying weapons to insrugents. (Gary Leupp, professor of history at Tufts University, regularly reports on foreign policy and writes extensively about the disinformation campaign against Iran on the web site CounterPunch: See www.counterpunch.org/leupp02172007.html and www.counterpunch.org/leupp06042008.html.)

Wasted opportunity

Overlooked in the current drumbeat is that the Bush administration willfully wasted a chance for harmonious relations with Iran, Dr. Trita Parsi told the forum.

“In May 2003, Iran made a proposal delivered by the Swiss Ambassador, who is the official “stand-in” for the United States, about all but one of the issues that separate the United States and Iran. There was no response from the U.S. to that proposal,” said Parsi, Iranian-American author of Treacherous Alliance: The Secret Dealings of Iran, Israel and the United States.

Parsi summed up Iran's proposal: full openness of Iran's nuclear program; pressure on Hamas to end violence; co-operation against Al-Qaida; help to the U.S. in stabilizing Iraq; and signing of the Beirut Declaration that recognizes Israel when a Palestinian state is established. Only human rights abuses in Iran were not included. But the U.S. ignored Iran's proposal. The White House felt regime change was better than anything they could get through negotiation. “The 1939 Hitler analogy [that diplomacy equals appeasement] is intended to eliminate diplomacy and make war inevitable.”

Finally, Dr. Cyrus Bina, professor of economics and management at the University of Minnesota-Morris, author of Economics of the Oil Crisis and an Iranian exile for four decades, echoed Parsi's concerns about human rights abuses in Iran, but, passionately stated his position” The United States has no right to bomb Iran, regardless of [Iran’s] human rights [record].”

Bina, along with the other two Iran scholars, emphasized that history plays a strong role in Iran-U.S. tensions. After World War II, when British colonization of Iran ended, the U.S. overthrew Iran's nationalistic progressive President Mosaddeq and installed the infamous Shah, who brutalized Iranians until the Islamic revolution in 1979, which included the hostage crisis where U.S. diplomats were held for over a year.

“The U.S. started this game in 1952. The hostage crisis was the reaction that started this chain reaction. There's so much misinformation about Iran.” Bina said. “The American people must do their duty to prevent another tragedy.”

From this winter's Pentagon videos, determined to be faked, about alleged “threats” from Iranian speedboats against U.S. warships (see www.democracynow.org/2008/1/11/us_backs_off_claim_of_naval and www.alternet.org/story/73618/) to Israel's Prime Minister asking Bush last week to enact a naval blockade against Iran, the U.S. seems to pushing for an attack on Iran.

Iran’s statements against nuclear arms

What is not mentioned in the major media is that Iran is among the 189 countries that have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Only four nations have not: U.S. allies Israel, India and Pakistan, all of which already have nuclear weapons, and North Korea, which may have been secretly trying to build them. The United States possesses 10,000 nuclear weapons—more than any other country—and is also the only nation to actually use nuclear weapons on human beings. While raising fears about non-existent Iranian nuclear weapons, the Bush Administration is pushing Congress to authorize billions of dollars to build a new generation of smaller, “tactical” nuclear weapons.

On August 9, 2005, it was announced that the highest authority in Iran (above President Ahmadinejad) the Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa (religious edict based on primary sources of Islam and scholarly thinking) which stated tnat The production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons are forbidden under Islam and that the Republic of Iran shall never acquire such weapons. This position is echoed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has pledged to pursue only Iran's legal right to nuclear power under IAEA protocols. Western media, especially in the U.S. and Iran's historic colonial ruler Britain, have misreported this religious prohibition against nuclear weapons to say its complete opposite. Most media have not mentioned the Islamic condemnation of nuclear weapons.

Most Americans know as little about Iran as they did about Iraq before the U.S. invasion. Given the continual revelations that the arguments for the 2003 U.S. attack on Iraq were built on sand, will the American people be more skeptical about attacking another Muslim country who has done nothing to the United States?

On yet another day when presidential hopeful John McCain is out rattling his wrinkled little saber at the President of Iran, we should bear in mind that there is at least one person in that country more powerful than Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Unlike many other countries, in Iran the president does not have control over foreign policy, the armed forces, nuclear policy, or the main economic policies of the Iranian state, which are under the control of the Supreme Leader. - wikipedia

The Leader of Iran is Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei is a weathered Islamic revolutionary, but his rhetoric towards the U.S. and Israel has softened somewhat in recent years. Ahmadinejad is a very eloquent reactionary who likely would never have been elected had the United States not started wantonly invading the Middle East.

This entire debate is moot, of course, if the U.S. cannot muster the materials or conviction to wage a full scale war on Iran. Iran, after all, is not some third-rate dictatorship with few resources and no military. The Iranian army is not likely to lay down its arms at the sound of invasion. They are trained, they are ready, and if we swing at them, they will fight back.

Haven't we been here before? Chicken Little and the Weapons of Mass Destruction? Again? Really?

Take a deep breath. Think again. We don't need more unwinnable wars.

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei Tuesday praised the Palestinian people and the Hamas government for their robust resistance against the stiff pressures and unprecedented crimes of the Zionist regime and its bullying friends.

"The Zionist regime, which once looked invincible, suffers its weakest ever position now, being unable to stand against the shelter-less and lone Palestinian nation that nevertheless has been persevering," Ayatollah Khamenei told the Hamas Political Bureau Chief, Khaled Mashal and his accompanying delegation.

"May Allah's peace be upon the Palestinian nation which has stood by like mountains despite all these stunning and unprecedented atrocities," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Islamic Revolution Leader said that the sole way to free Palestine was to keep resistance and faith. He appreciated the elected Hamas authorities, not least the Premier Ismail Haniya, for adopting a brave and resolute stance.

The Islamic Revolution Leader expressed deep sorrow at the current woes of the Palestinian people, especially the inhumane siege of the Gaza Strip coupled with the daily bloodshed of women, children and other defenseless people in the area.

"The tragic scenes are painful. However, the perseverance of the innocent Palestinian people against the usurper Zionist regime which is backed by all sorts of economic, military and propaganda supports, generates hope and proves to be a Divine Promise," the IR Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei elaborated that the Palestinian issue and the frustration of the Zionist enemy and arrogant powers against the nation as well as the ever growing achievements of the Iranian nation despite all pressures in the past thirty years are all the clear interpretation of the God's promise that 'if one assists the faith of God and persevere, God too would assist him.'

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that perseverance in the path of God has a price, adding however that those who step in the path and endure any potential hardships would be honored by God whereas those who choose another path would pay the price of being shameful before God.

Khaled Mashal for his part delivered a report on the latest Palestinian developments, especially the disastrous situation in Gaza, adding however that the Palestinian nation takes honor in its perseverance and would not relinquish resistance or support to the Hamas government under any conditions.

Hamas Political Bureau Chief said the Palestinian youths have embraced spirit of martyrdom, adding that the issue had given a large boost to the position of the Palestinian resistance.

His special attention to Ayatullah Khamenei

As per his extreme order and discipline in his work, after the summary of the news, Imam appointed 8 o’clock in the morning for office work and stamping bills. He never changed this timetable.

Even on those days that occasionally, because of slight illness or intense cold weather and frost, that he didn’t come to his work room, we were authorised to go to his room, so that no matter what, the work of the office and businesses did not get delayed or suspended. So that order and timing did not clash, if he foresaw a certain issue that would prevent him being on time, he would inform us the day before.

After the completion of this portion of his work, he carried out the programme of reciting aqd (marriage contracts for couples) and then hand-kissing, and after that, if a private meeting for heads or various persons had been arranged beforehand, they were carried out. Despite all these scheduled programmes, exceptions also occurred whereby Imam ordered the schedule to be suspended.

One of these exceptions related to Ayatullah Khamenei. When Imam became aware that he was present in the office at the start, i.e. at 8 o’clock in the morning, he instructed us: “All of you leave your work until later.” In this manner, against the norm, first the meeting with Ayatullah Khamanei was carried out and then we got busy in our work.

At that time, we did not understand the distinction and special attention given by Imam to Ayatullah Khamenei, but it wasn’t long, that with the passing of time, another example of the foresight and deep thinking of the Imam became apparent.[43]

Great article about Islamic leadership and the concept of wilayat al-faqih from the perspective of the founder of the Islamic revolution. This is taken from Sayyid Khamenei's site: www.leader.ir

Leadership from the Perspective of Imam Khomeini (q.)

Conditions of Leadership

The necessary conditions to be available in a leader are directly connected to the nature of the Islamic government. Disregarding the general conditions like wisdom and proper management, two basic conditions, i.e. justice and to know the law, should also be available.
Even after the demise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), when the bitter controversy about who would succeed him appeared, there was no theoretical dispute among Muslims over such an issue that his successor should be a knowledgeable and virtuous man. Mainly there were two controversial issues:
1- Since the Islamic government is a government of law, the person who governs should have a wide knowledge of law as it is referred to in traditions. It is necessary for the ruler as well as every one who takes charge of a post or occupies a job to acquire such knowledge; the only difference is that the leader should be the most knowledgeable. Our Infallible Imams (a.) had just used this same point – that the Imam (the religious leader) has to have superiority over others – to prove their imamate. Also, the queries that Shī‘ah scholars raise and criticize others fall within this very domain when they say: the caliph did not know the answer to a question about the Islamic Law or he did a certain act which was against the Islamic law, so he was not qualified for this office.(1)
Muslims consider justice and knowing the law as essential conditions and basic elements while other things are neither significant nor necessary. For example, to know how the angles are or what the characteristics of the Creator (Allah) are has nothing to do with the matter of leadership. Similarly, suppose someone knows everything about physics and has discovered all the natural forces or knows music well, he will neither be qualified to be a caliph nor be given priority – over those who are just and knowledgeable in Islamic law – to occupy the office of leader.
Therefore, what is really related to the caliphate – which was the matter of discussion and talk during the era of the Noble Prophet (s.) and our Infallible Imams (a.) and which is accepted by all Muslims – is that the ruler or the caliph should, firstly, know the Islamic law and, secondly, be just and perfect in both religious beliefs and morals. This fact is admitted by the reason as well because the Islamic government is a government of law and not a government of desires or a dictatorship.
If the leader is not acquainted with law, he will not be competent to govern people. Because if he follows [another person] in taqlīd, that will weaken his power; and if he does not, he cannot put the Islamic law into effect. The tradition that "the Islamic jurists rule over the kings" (الفقهاء حکام علی السلاطین) is undisputed.(2) If kings really follow Islam, they should follow the Islamic jurists and ask their opinion. In this way the jurists themselves will be the real rulers and, therefore, the power should officially be given to them and not to those who are compelled to follow jurists as they do not know the law.
2- A leader should be perfect in religious beliefs and morals, just and spiritually not polluted with sins. The individual who wants to take the responsibility for applying the Islamic penal code properly, to control the Muslims' assets and country's expenditures and wants Allah, the Exalted, to delegate him the administration of His servants’ affairs should not be a sinner because Allah, the Almighty, does not allow a tyrant to have such a power
Unless the ruler is just, he will not administer justice in providing Muslims with their rights, collecting and distributing taxes properly, and putting the penal code into effect. Such a ruler may also make his friends, supporters and relatives take control of people and spend Muslims’ assets in fulfilling his own personal whims and desires.(4)

It Is Not Necessary to Be a Marji‘

I was and I am still believing and I am insisting on the belief that it is not necessary that an Islamic leader should be a marji‘. A just mujtahid chosen by the honored experts – who are the representatives of the whole country [in the Assembly of Experts] – is just enough. When the people vote for the experts in order that they appoint a just mujtahid to rule them and those experts, then, has really assigned somebody to the leadership post, the leadership of such a person would be accepted by the people. In such a case, this person becomes the walī (leader) that has been elected by the people and whose orders and commands are, consequently, effective.(5)

The Model of Leadership

In the early days of Islam, the ideal Islamic government ruled twice: first at the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.) and secondly when Imam Ali ibn Abī Tālib (a.) governed in Kūfah. They were the only two examples that the immaterial values dominated. In other words, they were governments of justice in which the rulers had never violated the law. During those two periods, a government of law was in control and perhaps we will never find another government of law with such qualities all over the world. A government whose walī al-amr – 'king' or 'president' in nowadays’ terms – was equal to the simplest citizen living there before the law.
It happened in the government of the early Islam. In this regard, there is a story about Amīr al-Mu’minīn, Imam Ali (a.). During his rule which was extended to include the Arab Peninsula, Egypt, Iran and many other areas, while it was he who was assigning judges, an individual from Yemen – living under the control of this very government – brought a lawsuit against the Imam (a.) and the judge summoned Imam Ali (a.). When Imam (a.) arrived in the court, the judge tried to show respect for him. Although the judge was really appointed by Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.) himself, Imam (a.) said, 'While judging do not respect only one party. He and I should be equal. And after the judge issued a rule against Imam Ali (a.), he accepted it cheerfully.
In such a government all are equal before the law because the Islamic law is a divine one and all – whether the ruler, the Prophet, the Imam or the common people – are equal before Allah, be He blessed, the Exalted.(6)

Leader among People

The Islamic leader was not like kings and presidents. He was coming and sitting among the people in a small mosque in Madīnah and listening to their words. Those who had the country's destiny in their hands were meeting the common people in the same mosque in such a way that when somebody entered the mosque could not differentiate the leader and government officials from the populace. They were just like people in their dress style and association. Justice was so applied that if a citizen from the lowest class of the society took a legal action against the first person in the country, the judge used to summon the leader who would attend the court.(7)

Wilāyah of the Jurist Is against Dictatorship

In Islam it is the law which rules. The Noble Prophet (s.) was also following the law, the Divine law. He was not able to violate it. Addressing the Holy Prophet, Allah the Exalted says that if you say something against that which I say, I will seize you and cut off your aorta.(8) If the Prophet (s.) was a dictator or a person that people were afraid lest he may dictate to them on enjoying the whole power, then a jurist could, also, be a dictator.(9)
A jurist will never be despotic. A jurist with such characteristics is just. This kind of justice differs from the social justice. Jurist's justice is so that if he lies just once or if he has only a single look at a non-maḥram, he will be no longer considered as just. Such a person cannot and does not act against the law.(10)

Powers of the Leader and Government

If an eligible person with these two characteristics rises and comes to power, he will acquire the same wilāyah (authorities) which were established for the noble Prophet Muhammad (s.) as far as administering the society is concerned. And, therefore, all people are required to obey him.
Such understanding that the governmental powers of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) were more than those of Imam Ali (a.), or that the government authorities of Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.) should be more than those of the jurist, is just wrong. Of course, the moral qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (s.) is universally the best, and then those of Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.). However, being in the highest rank of moralities does not increase one's governmental powers. Allah; who had given such authorities to the Prophet (s.) and the Infallible Imams (a.) like mobilizing and calling up the armed forces, assigning rulers and mayors, collecting taxes and spending them on the basis of Muslims' common interest; had given the same authorities to this very government with only one difference that He did not recognize a certain person for such a post, but gave a general title for it which is: 'the just Islamic jurist'.
When we say that after the disappearance [of the Imam of Time (aj.)] the powers, which the Prophet (s.) and the Imams (a.) had, are given to the just jurist; nobody should misunderstand this by thinking that the position of jurists is the same with that of the Imams (a.) and the Prophet (s.) because the discourse here is not on positions, but on duties and responsibilities. Wilāyah, which means the power of governing and administrating a country and putting the sacred Islamic laws into effect, is a very difficult and important duty. It does not provide the person with an unusual station or position to put him in a higher class in comparison with the normal individuals. In other words, wilāyah here; which refers to ruling, enforcing laws and administrating [a country]; is not an honor, as many conceive, but rather a weighty and great responsibility.
Among the matters that the jurist should accept its responsibility is the enforcement of the Islamic penal code. The question here is that is there a distinction among the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), the Infallible Imams (a.) and a jurist so far as applying penal code is concerned? If jurist' position is lower, should he pass a lighter sentence? Should the number of lashes received by an adulterer/ adulteress – which is 100 – be 150 if judged by the Noble Prophet (s.), 100 if judged by Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.) and only 50 if judged by a jurist? Or it is the executive ruler who should have the responsibility of putting the Divine Penal Code into effect no matter whether he is the Prophet (s.a.w.); Imam Ali (a.), his representative, or a judge in Baṣrah or Kūfa; or an Islamic jurist now.
Also, the Noble Prophet (s.) and Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.) were responsible for collecting taxes, khums, zakat, jizyah and taxes on lands. How much zakat should Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) take? Should he take – from somewhere – twice as much as he take from another place?
What would Imam Ali (a.) do when he became a caliph? What about you if you become a jurist of time and influential? Is the wilāyah of the Prophet (s.) with respect to these matters varies from that of Imam Ali (a.) and a jurist? Allah, the Exalted, had appointed the Prophet Muhammad (s.) as the walī (leader) for all Muslims and as long as he was alive, he had control over even Amīr al-Mu’minīn (a.).
When the Prophet (s.a.w.) passed away, Imam Ali (a.) also had control over all Muslims even over the next Imam. It means that his governmental commands should have been obeyed by all and he was able to appoint and depose local rulers.
Just as the Noble Prophet(s.) was charged with implementing rules and establishing the Islamic system and Allah had made him leader and ruler of Muslims and considered submission to him as mandatory, a just jurist should also be leader and ruler, apply Divine rules and endeavor to set the Islamic social system up.(11)

Governance Is a Primary Rule and Has Priority over Secondary Rules

If the government powers were considered within the domain of the Divine secondary rules, the delegation of the Divine government and the absolute wilāyah to the Prophet Muhammad (s.) would be a meaningless phenomenon.
The governance, which is a part of the absolute wilāyah of the Prophet Muhammad (s.), is among the primary Islamic rules and takes precedence over the whole secondary rules including the prayer, fasting and ḥajj. The [Islamic] ruler can ruin a mosque or a house which obstructs a street and pay the owner its price. He can also temporarily ban the mosques – when necessary – or demolish a mosque which proves detrimental [to the public good] in case it is impossible to prevent its harm without destroying it. The government can unilaterally revoke a Shar‘ī contract that it has itself signed with people when it is understood to be against the interest of the county or Islam. It is also able to stop any practice, be it a worship or not, if it is recognized to be against the good of Islam. The government can even temporarily prevent performing ḥajj, which is among the important Divine obligations, when it proves to be against the Islamic country's interest.(12)

Wilāyah and Right of Ownership

In Islam it is legal [to own] property but it is restricted by certain limitations. Limitation of ownership is among the issues which are within the jurist's area of competence due to his wilāyah; which [wilāyah of the jurist] is, unfortunately, not clear for our intellectuals. In spite of the fact that ownership is respected by the sacred Legislator, walī al-amr (the Leader of Muslims) has the power to restrict a legal property or even confiscate it if he realizes that such ownership goes against the advantage of Islam and Muslims.(13)

I have been away for a couple of weeks now, and will be until sometime in April, so publishing will

I have been away for a couple of weeks now, and will be until sometime in April, so publishing will continue to be slow.

But, recently, I spoke to a few ordinary Arabs (mainly Jordanians), and thought to do a quick, random check, on their views about what on earth is going on in the ME. We never spoke of where I was from.

When asked about the situation in the ME and Iran in particular, they all agreed to the following (8 people in total) - I summarize and paraphrase:

"We are very proud of Jordan, Our King Al Abdullah, and Queen Raina are hard working people, she is beautiful [Raina of Jordan] - No, Iranians are not Arabs, Iran used to have a King like we do, but we aren't sure what they are now! They are Shia-Muslims, and their government is radical [compared to us Jordanians] - Ahmadinejad is not our favorite, but he is very powerful; Iranians have become very powerful. Do we like them? No, we don't, but they are standing up for the Palestinians. We don't like HAMAS because of their terrorist activities, we believe in dual "governance" [Israeli and Palestinian existence], but Israel wants more land than she deserves, and they keep saying they want more land. HEZBOLLAH is not good either, not a "resistance movement" and they are aided by the Iranian government. But, the Americans are foreign to us in culture, language, religion and heritage; we are Muslims; but, we don't dislike the Americans, we just think they don't understand us."

I then asked the questions: "Why should the Iranian government stand up for the Palestinians if Iranians are not Arabs? And, why don't the Arab nations, who are plenty in the ME, stand up for the Palestinians? What have they done for the Palestinian cause so far?"

The response was somewhat muted and a fair bit of umm, errr.... finally, one of the Jordanians said: "Iranian government embraces Islam, it doesn't matter if they aren't Arabs, and are Shia [most Palestinians are Sunnis I believe]. We are sure the Iranians are working for their own benefits, but as long as they support the Muslim cause we don't care. The Arab nations, mostly, have not and do not actively support the Palestinians; even in Iraq if you are of Palestinian origins, it is very difficult to be given an Iraqi citizenship."

Well, for a sample of 8, I found the "unofficial" exchange fascinating.

As for the recent Parliamentary Elections in Iran, Ahmadinejad's faction is set to win with the blessing of the Supreme, one handed, Mullah Khamenei. Reformists are basically out in a coma, and the battle as Khamenei had planned will be between Ahmadinejad's hardliners vs. traditional conservatives i.e. people such as that now very old fiend Ebrahim Yazdi (sadly, an American citizen). Is that a surprise? I would say an emphatic: NO. My response would be: Those who voted may very well get what they voted for... See previous posts regarding the Elections HERE - and - HERE. Also, it is said that Ahmadinejad has promised to bring down the official age of voting from 18 to 15 years of age - HERE - I ask why not 9 years of age, as is currently to marry off young female children to men their father's age under Islamic law? Quite a few Basij thugs in Iran are actually in their early to mid teens as well. It is abominable.

Finally, I must emphasize that similar to Khomeini who invented the political doctrine of Velayate Faghih (which does not exist in traditional Shia Islam) - Khomeini's followers and the IR have been distorting the Zoroastrian principles, faith and its belief such as Good vs. Evil, to suit their own deception (Taqiyah) and malicious purposes. This is mainly done through those heavily influenced by the IR indoctrination, who have become their mouthpieces in the West, one minute professing to be anti-IR, and the next showing their true colors, in an attempt to confuse others, gain ground and acceptance. This also applies to NIAC lies and intimidations - see this recent comment.

By the way, many thanks to all those who left comments in NoRooz series, especially part Three, with good wishes.
