Q. Parker (of 112) - Think About Me

Q. Parker is letting us know that he can fly solo! He brings us "Think About Me". Q is a great singer and his vocals always stood out, while with 112. The song, however, is not that good, and it sounds more like a demo of someone who is trying to break in the music industry. We know Q is capable of good work but he needs to work a little harder. We are here for you Q!

Tank - How Can I Live

Tank is known for making soulful ballads and he has struck gold with this one. With his great production and master writing skills, Tank always gives us great songs. This is a very good song! continue the good work Tank. We need more upbeat songs from you also! Let's get it!

Brandon Beal - Maybe

Brandon is a new artist that has been on his grind. Performing at different venues across the country, Brandon has caught the eye of a lot of music execs and gain credibility amongst fans. With his raw talent, Brandon is about to let the music industry know how it is supposed to be done.

Colby O'Donis feat. T-Pain - Natural High

Hot Track! The 20-year-old R&B/hip-hop singer/songwriter/producer Colby O’Donis on Akon’s KonLive label, is set for release sometime this summer. Not sure what the next may be but this should be considered. With T-Pain added to the equation, this is a solid hit. Great song!

Donnie Klang - Satisfied

Is Donnie "Satisfied" right now? When is his album coming out? We hear that it will be released on Aug. 26th. This is a very good track but our only complaint is that, you cannot hear a word he is saying. His lyrics are lost within the music. Good song though! Donnie's album needs to drop ASAP or he will be forgotten in this industry.

Ludacris - Put On

Ludacris is letting us know that he is the original King of ATL! Is Luda trying to get something off his chest? Lyrically, Luda is most definitely on point with this one. Check it out!

Lloyd - Treat You Good

"Treat You Good" is a very hot track. We here at SFPL got the list of tracks, that would appear on the new album: "Lessons of Love" and this track was not included. Who knows! It may just make bonus track! We will see! Hot joint!

Karina Pasian - Winner

Wow! Karina is stepping up with back to back hits! Could this check be the next Alicia Keys? She just might be! With the gift of playing the piano and singing in 3 different languages, this chick is on her way to stardom. Excellent track Karina! Be on the lookout for her peeps!

Coca-Cola keeps the summer cool and makes it hot for teens across the country as it kicks off the six-city, invitation only “Coca-Cola Refresh Your Flow Tour” featuring hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco today in Los Angeles.

Starting tonight in Hollywood, Grammy award-winning hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco will bring his hits, “Kick, Push” and “Superstar” to lucky teens, ages 13-17, across the country for an exclusive, invitation only concert tour created by Coca-Cola North America. The “Coca-Cola Refresh Your Flow Tour” opens today at the Avalon in Hollywood and will travel to some of the hottest venues in five other cities including: The Electric Factory (Philadelphia, August 3); The Tabernacle (Atlanta, August 8); Park West (Chicago, August 17); LOVE (Washington D.C., August 21); and, The Filmore at Irving Plaza (New York City, August 29). Up-and-coming artist Karina Pasian will open the show.

“The ‘Coca-Cola Refresh Your Flow Tour’ continues Coca-Cola’s tradition of connecting African American teens with something they love – Coca-Cola and music,” said Yolanda White, assistant vice president, African American Marketing, Coca-Cola North America. “Not only will each concert offer the teens an unforgettable musical experience, it will give each of them a taste of the Coke Side of Life – a moment in time that is refreshingly optimistic and uplifting. And, by engaging an artist like Lupe Fiasco, they will be encouraged to live on the positive side of life.”

Tickets to the show are free and can only be obtained from partnering radio stations, participating retailers and Coca-Cola street teams traveling to teen hot spots throughout the cities. In addition, select Boys & Girls Clubs in each market will distribute tickets to deserving Club teens.

“I am looking forward to the ‘Coca-Cola Refresh Your Flow Tour.’ It’s a unique opportunity for me to bring a message of positivity and what it really means to be cool,” said Lupe Fiasco. “I hope it will be an unforgettable experience for every teen who attends.”

The Grammy award-winning Lupe Fiasco came on the music scene in 2006 with the chart-topping debut single, “Kick, Push.” He has been lauded by critics and fans alike for his clean, underground, storytelling rap style that is contrast to popular mainstream lyrics glamorizing materialism, sexuality and violence. His music is inspired by his love for Japanese animation, comic books, video games, art, literature and philosophy. MTV recently ranked him No. 7 on the list of “hottest MCs in the Game 2008.” His highly anticipated sophomore album, “The Cool” was released in December 2007 and has garnered current hits “Superstar,” “Paris Tokyo” and “Hip Hop Saved My Life.”

Partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs

The partnership with local Boys & Girls Clubs is a part of a long-term national relationship The Coca-Cola Company has with the non-profit youth organization. As part of the “Coca-Cola Refresh Your Flow Tour,” select teens from local Clubs will receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Lupe Fiasco and attend the concert as VIPs.

Radio stations offering “Refresh Your Flow Tour” tickets are: Power 106, Los Angeles; Power 99, Philadelphia; HOT 107.9, Atlanta; WGCI, Chicago; WPGC Jams, Washington D.C.; and, HOT 97, New York City. Check with each station directly to learn more about how to obtain tickets.

As a R&B admirer/addict, I could not help but notice this lyrically significant song flowing thr

As a R&B admirer/addict, I could not help but notice this lyrically significant song flowing through the speakers of my friend’s laptop. On the brink of tears, literally for no reason, I checked the sound player for the name of the artist that was shaking my spirit and thoughts. Karina Pasian, the 16 year old Dominicana that won Star Search, to my surprise had me stuck on her song “Slow Motion”.

For days, I thought over the lyrics and wished young women such as my sister had the opportunity to have more artists like her at their access. This young woman is in no rush to grow up, but at the same time isn’t exactly singing Disney singles. With real issues such as relationships, sex, the ruin of the urban community, and dysfunctional family problems, she has beyond kept it real with her listeners. Karina has already made the acquaintance of industry moguls such as Quincy Jones, Bono, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and, of course, former Def Jam president Jay-z (her label by the way).

However, the young talent has acquired opportunities outside of the industry by becoming the first Dominican in 2007 to sing at the White House for President Bush. Although I am older than her (I’m not telling by how many years!), I can definitely relate and talk about the young people’s movement that is on a rampage in the music industry. With Lil Mama, Tiffany Evans, Soulja Boy, and Chris Brown (back in the day), you would think the competition would be thick. However, Pasian’s sound and content sets her apart from the rest and serves as an inspiration.

As the artist behind the Hot 97 (New York) single “16 @ War” in addition to her “First Love” single, Def Jam has displayed her true potential as an artist that may actually be on the scene for numerous years. With her piano skills, I’m even willing to bet that the young Pasian will be the next Alicia Keys! Very rarely, does a young singer enter the scene with a message beyond dancing and a catchy beat. So therefore, Pasian earns herself the first FashMuse music spot and, also, because she has impeccable style!

I chose Karina Pasian's '16 At War' as the SOTD, because I felt she had important things to say. Karina has been signed to Def Jam for quite some time now, and her music video was released earlier this month. In the music industry today, younger artists are forced into singing immature "age-appropriate" songs, or bust a Chris Brown and sing about 'Take U Down', when his record company is well aware his audience is built up of kids like my 12 year old niece who loves his skinny-non-singing ass. Homie was doing the grind-time ALL wrong in the video. Maybe he needs to switch Ri-Ri for Ciara, to show him some real grown dancing. HA! Let me stop drifting because I am glad that we still have young singers like Karina and Tiffany Evans who are worthy of some spotlight. I'm tired of hearing those non-singing-ass-dancers all over the radio.

Even before 16-year-old Karina Pasian signed to Def Jam records, the stellar singer was already making a name for herself. From her winning performance on Star Search in 2003 to singing at the White House last June during Black Music Month, this New York City chanteuse has been paying her professional dues since she was a toddler.

"I've been singing and playing piano since I was three," says Karina. "My babysitter had a piano, and she started teaching me how to play. It wasn't until a year later that I began getting professional lessons." While some have been quick to compare Karina Pasian to other performers including Aaliyah, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey, one listen to her self-assured debut disc is evidence enough that she is destined for success.

Karina remembers the first time she sang in front of an audience. "I sang Céline Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On' at a talent show. I was kind of nervous, but the audience loved it."

From that point, there was no denying that music would be her life. A few years later, after using the Prince-penned ballad "How Come U Don't Call" for an audition, Karina Pasian was cast on a revamped version of Star Search. "That was such a wonderful experience," says Karina, who won the first round of the competition with a rousing version of the Jackson Five classic "I'll Be There."

Working with an array of songwriters, producers and artists that include The Dream, Tricky Stewart, Gordon Chambers, Chris Brown, Carlos McKinnney, Lil Mama and others, Karina proves to be a breath of fresh soul. "I've recorded over 70 songs in the last two years," Karina says. "It was a period of real growth for me as I learned to focus and stay consistent."

Karina Pasian's godfather, famed producer and businessman Quincy Jones, has also been a guardian angel for the young singer. In addition to giving her advice, the maestro included her in the "We Are the Future" charity concert in 2006. Considering the talents Jones has worked with, from Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan to Michael Jackson and Tamia, she is in good company. "I know I'm blessed to have someone like Quincy in my corner," she says.

A fan who embraces all forms of music, from the stylish Black pop of Brandy to old school jazz greats, Karina performed the standard "Misty" when she was at the White House last year. "Emilio Estefan, who has been a friend of my family for years, helped to put the show together, and invited me to be a part of it," says Karina. "Later, my brother told me that I was the first Dominican to play at the White House, and that made me very proud."

Studying music and voice at High School for the Professional Performing Arts, the Washington Heights native was more than prepared for any challenges that arose in the studio. "I was blessed to have some pretty amazing teachers who prepared me well," she says sweetly. Refusing to fall into any cliché, Karina Pasian has recorded an album that is a reflection of her age and independent point of view.

Karina Pasian's song "Sixteen" is a song of independence and admiration. "Ain't no daddy's where I'm from, its just mad mothers...why am I disrespected by someone I should call brother," she sings in a pristine voice. "I wanted to do a song about what teenager girls go through in urban areas. It's not cool that boys think they're being cute when they say nasty stuff to us on the street." Written and produced by The Dream and Tricky Stewart, best known for their work with Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Madonna's "Me Against the Music," the song "Sixteen" reminds one of vintage Brill Building girls like the Crystals or Little Eva with an electro-groove.

Another The Dream and Tricky Stewart track that will leave fans breathless is "Baby Baby," an uptempo song that is destined to be a dancefloor scorcher. "Though this is a fun song, it's not just a party song," says Karina "It's about guys who simply see young women as sex objects, but I refuse to be that girl." Indeed, like Aretha Franklin, she simply wants some respect. Sharing the mic with rapper Lil Mama ("Lip Gloss" & "Shawty Get Loose"), the two young stars connected in the studio. "Lil Mama was so cool, but it was her confidence in the booth that was really exciting."

Produced and written by Carlos McKinney, the sing-songy "Can't Find the Words" embraces elements of jazz and pop while simultaneously creating a whimsical track that sounds like nothing else of the radio. Additionally, Karina's favorite song "Winner," which highlights her elegant piano (her light touch on the keyboard reminds one of Erroll Garner) playing, is laidback and uplifting.

Karina Pasian is the newest edition to ever growing and ever successful Def Jam roster. She is only sixteen, but is already showing maturity way beyond her years. She's being compared to Alicia Keys a lot, mainly because she's from New York and plays the piano - but aside from these similarities, we don't think there's much to compare - they're both doing very different thangs!

We're feeling this tune big time and it's video...It's good to see a young women attacking this kinda issues, esp with her debut single, rather than going for the whole 'cookie-cutter' type things Labels love doing with new artists! We're pretty excited about Karina Pasian and can't wait to hear more from her! She's definitely one to watch.

Tell us what you think!

Peace, Love & Karina Pasian

Even before 16-year-old Karina Pasian signed to Def Jam records, the stellar singer was already making a name for herself. From her winning performance on Star Search in 2003 to singing at the White House last June during Black Music Month, this New York City chanteuse has been paying her professional dues since she was a toddler.

If you know a young person, play this song for them and talk about the things that she sings about. If you’re a young person struggling to explain what’s going on in your life make your people listen to this song. It’s important to know how Teens and young folks are feeling so grown folks, shut up sometimes and really listen to what they have to say.
Song Written by The Dream

Also parents, I know you probably tell your kids that they can tell you everything, bur please make sure that your actions follow up with that statement. If your kid comes to you with a problem, blowing up, yelling , getting angry and handing out punishment is only going to make your kid keep their problems a secret from you. Create open lines of communication so that they know that you’re there for them .

About Karina Pasian

Even before 16-year-old Karina Pasian signed to Def Jam records, the stellar singer was already making a name for herself. From her winning performance on Star Search in 2003 to singing at the White House last June during Black Music Month, this New York City chanteuse has been paying her professional dues since she was a toddler.“I’ve been singing and playing piano since I was three,” says Karina. “My babysitter had a piano, and she started teaching me how to play. It wasn’t until a year later that I began getting professional lessons.” While some have been quick to compare Karina Pasian to other performers including Aaliyah, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey, one listen to her self-assured debut disc is evidence enough that she is destined for success. Karina remembers the first time she sang in front of an audience. “I sang Céline Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a talent show. I was kind of nervous, but the audience loved it.” From that point, there was no denying that music would be her life. A few years later, after using the Prince-penned ballad “How Come U Don’t Call” for an audition, Karina Pasian was cast on a revamped version of Star Search. “That was such a wonderful experience,” says Karina, who won the first round of the competition with a rousing version of the Jackson Five classic “I’ll Be There.”

Working with an array of songwriters, producers and artists that include The Dream, Tricky Stewart, Gordon Chambers, Chris Brown, Carlos McKinnney, Lil Mama and others, Karina proves to be a breath of fresh soul. “I’ve recorded over 70 songs in the last two years,” Karina says. “It was a period of real growth for me as I learned to focus and stay consistent.”

Karina Pasian’s godfather, famed producer and businessman Quincy Jones, has also been a guardian angel for the young singer. In addition to giving her advice, the maestro included her in the “We Are the Future” charity concert in 2006. Considering the talents Jones has worked with, from Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan to Michael Jackson and Tamia, she is in good company. “I know I’m blessed to have someone like Quincy in my corner,” she says.

A fan who embraces all forms of music, from the stylish Black pop of Brandy to old school jazz greats, Karina performed the standard “Misty” when she was at the White House last year. “Emilio Estefan, who has been a friend of my family for years, helped to put the show together, and invited me to be a part of it,” says Karina. “Later, my brother told me that I was the first Dominican to play at the White House, and that made me very proud.”

Studying music and voice at High School for the Professional Performing Arts, the Washington Heights native was more than prepared for any challenges that arose in the studio. “I was blessed to have some pretty amazing teachers who prepared me well,” she says sweetly. Refusing to fall into any cliché, Karina Pasian has recorded an album that is a reflection of her age and independent point of view.

Karina Pasian’s song “Sixteen” is a song of independence and admiration. “Ain’t no daddy’s where I’m from, its just mad mothers…why am I disrespected by someone I should call brother,” she sings in a pristine voice. “I wanted to do a song about what teenager girls go through in urban areas. It’s not cool that boys think they’re being cute when they say nasty stuff to us on the street.” Written and produced by The Dream and Tricky Stewart, best known for their work with Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Madonna’s “Me Against the Music,” the song “Sixteen” reminds one of vintage Brill Building girls like the Crystals or Little Eva with an electro-groove.

Another The Dream and Tricky Stewart track that will leave fans breathless is “Baby Baby,” an uptempo song that is destined to be a dancefloor scorcher. “Though this is a fun song, it’s not just a party song,” says Karina “It’s about guys who simply see young women as sex objects, but I refuse to be that girl.” Indeed, like Aretha Franklin, she simply wants some respect. Sharing the mic with rapper Lil Mama (“Lip Gloss” & “Shawty Get Loose”), the two young stars connected in the studio. “Lil Mama was so cool, but it was her confidence in the booth that was really exciting.”

Produced and written by Carlos McKinney, the sing-songy “Can’t Find the Words” embraces elements of jazz and pop while simultaneously creating a whimsical track that sounds like nothing else of the radio. Additionally, Karina’s favorite song “Winner,” which highlights her elegant piano (her light touch on the keyboard reminds one of Erroll Garner) playing, is laidback and uplifting.

A beautiful young woman with more musical moxy than most sixteen year olds, Karina Pasian has constructed one of the finest debut discs in years. Melancholic and truthful, funky and real, blissful and bold, Karina's album is the sound of a better tomorrow.
