To the point: while exploring my KO, I discovered a boot-up mode by holding random buttons while powering the unit on. I googled a bit and found out ppl @ Korgforums and Youtube have already discovered this but the information seemed pretty buried so I thought I'd pass the info along myself.

When powering on the unit, hold down the TAP/BMP and Rec/Play buttons simultaneously and wait for the screen to boot up. DLY will read on the screen then release the buttons. Hold down Rec/Play and press the TAP/Bpm button again (Length setting). You can now change the overall pattern length to 16 steps and record some parameter automation like loop length and tempo, which can't be recorded in regular mode. Recording acts differently as well, for example.. you can let go after laying down some sounds then make some changes on the length and tempo and the changes will be recorded.

You gain some you lose some. Overdubbing can no longer be undone via Fix and Cancel. In 16-Bar mode you can only delete the entire loop or keep overdubbing. Instead you have Erase and Clear. Erase works like it does in regular mode and so does Clear. Also, you can Pause the playback but if you stop it in order to sync something with the downbeat (pause/begin record on trigger), it will overwrite what was previously there.. not a big deal really.  Check out the video below the charts for a great example of the sorts of things you can do in this Mode by tripleninesquared.

Unfortunately, you needed to hack or "jailbreak" the phone to get the software loaded. When Apple announced they were opening up iPhone software development to independents, you just knew Moo Cow was going to be in on the deal and a legal versions of what was then called iPiano and other interfaces would be available. Sure enough, Mark Terry unveiled Moo Cow's Band software at the Apple WWDC a few weeks ago. Here's the a clip from the Keynote when Mark and friend demonstrated Band:

Already, there are people out there taking it to the "next level" expanding their set ups and including some very sophisticated equipment. I just had to add this as a shout out to Jim Frankel at SoundTree to thank him for coming to my school and showing the kids the great equipment available to them especially Korg's Kaossilator and padKontrol. They loved them all and thought Jim was a really "cool dude". Oh yeah, is that a Kaossilator in there? I think I see an iPhone and another Korg handheld device...? What's the game controller in the middle? I just can't believe this guy actually rehearsed this to work it all out and it's not bad! This is what happens when geeks have too much time on their hands...

Dagens skrifter fokuseras på något helt annat, nämligen det underbara instrumentet Kaossilator från Korg. En helt otrolig liten pattern synthesizer som har nästan allt man behöver i fickformat! Möjligheter för loopning och inspelning, inbyggt ljudkort med så väl syntprogram som trummor, och en gate-arpeggiator. Underbart, då allt utförs med den lilla touchpaden. Ta upp ur fickan och improvisera fram grymhet. Inget jag funderar på egentligen (dessutom är de slutsålda överallt), men den skulle vara kul att leka med en.

Om vi går tillbaka till verkligheten igen, förstår jag verkligen inte (klyscha) hur lärarna lyckas lägga alla proven på samma ställen. Många är sjuka nu i klassen, 50% av frånvaron beror väl antagligen på "jag stannade hemma och pluggade" och 50% på riktig sjukdom. Jag ägnar en tyst minut åt Tova, som fått ännu ett nytt lager av =(.
...
I morgon ska jag slutligen köpa de där evinnerliga plaggen. Det blir lite intressant.

¡Mama quiere uno de esos!, fue lo primero que pensé cuando vi el último cacharrito de Korg, una de la empresas con más experiencia en aparatos musicales electrónicos.

Hace algún tiempo que ya había visto – y probado – algo parecido al Kaossilator, pero muchísimo menos intuitivo.

Quizás lo más interesante es el sistema de ejes del panel táctil, ya que si mueves el dedo de forma horizontal obtendrás el sonido base y si lo mueves en vertical metes los valores de modulación, resonancia, etc dependiendo del programa activado.

Otra de las grandes aportaciones son las distintas cajas de ritmos que trae, además de grabar pistas y loops a tiempo real para poder hacer canciones en un plis.

Parece bastante sencillo de tocar, y así han querido que fuese, pero de tocarlo a hacer música es otra historia. Su precio es de alrededor de 199$ en ThinkGeek.

La verdad es que es increíble lo que se puede hacer en casa con un ordenador normalito, algún secuenciador, una tarjeta de audio decente, un controlador midi básico y un trasto como éste.

Finalmente ho trovato una "sound-machine" poco costosa! YEAH! :-)

El Kaossilator es un un sintetizador por frases, que viene cargado con 100 patches de fábrica. Su eje horizontal está asignado a nota/tono, y el vertical puede asignarse a parámetros como corte de filtro, feedback o profundidad de modulación.

El arpegiador de puerta (50 tipos) te permite producir patrones de notas específicos, sincronizados con el tempo especificado. La función Loop Recording te permite grabar una frase con un número específico de beats, hasta un máximo de dos compases, y añadir capas. Por ejemplo: puedes grabar una frase utilizando un lead, y grabar encima un sonido de bajo o percusión. Puedes conseguir capas de frases simplemente repitiendo el proceso de seleccionar, reproducir y grabar sonidos.
