Barack Obama went to Israel and the West Bank recently in order to discuss issues surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and continue his international campaign for president of the United States of America. I'm going to set aside how fascinating I find the fact that this is the first presidential race that has included vigorous international campaigning (and that's exactly what it is so let's not mince words), and only discuss what happened during his visit to the Western Wall (also known as the Kotel or Wailing Wall). After all, this is a blog concerned with religion, not international politics, and this is religion in the news day.

History of the Western Wall

In actuality, the wall is part of a far larger retaining wall that holds up one side of a mountain, on top of which lies an enormous platform which once had the Temple sitting on it. Now, the Dome of the Rock is up there (click HERE for a picture and more history). There are actually other spots where you can go and see parts of this old retaining wall and pray if you like, but Jews, for the most part, don't. They stick it out right here on this little section: they think it's the holiest spot of all the potential ones. But why?

Because centuries ago when the Turks controlled the Holy Land and the Jews were praying all over the area to be as close to the original site of the Temple as possible, they were annoying the Turks. So, the Turks wanted to give the Jews a set place that they could and had to pray. Thus, they picked the current Wailing Wall. It is therefore only historical precedent which makes the Jews believe the Western Wall has some added holiness (though the proximity to the site of the original Temple does help this feeling, somewhat more justly, I suppose), and that is why they pray there. Personally, I've never much enjoyed the experience of going to the Wall, but we can get into those reasons another time.

Obama and the Western Wall

It is customary to leave notes in the Wall addressed to God. Many Jews do this (you can even email or fax notes and look at the Wall via webcam any day but Saturday), and many non-Jews participate in this ritual as well, believing in the sanctity of this spot and that it's God's post office. So, when Obama went, he too left a note. It's not like Obama to be politically uncouth, after all.

Now, some very unethical individual decided to remove Obama's note and bring it to a newspaper in Israel which promptly published it. I think this is despicable - less the act of publication itself than the actual  removal of the note from the Wall. Fortunately, the chief rabbis in Israel, as well as the rabbi who supervises the Wall, agree with me, and I'm surprised and pleased to get to say this.

I had feared that the rabbis would have said something to the effect of not caring that it was removed because Barack Obama is just a gentile and may well be a damn Muslim. Yes, something incredibly stupid like that. This, honestly, was my fear - that they would further embarrass Israel, the Jewish people, and anyone with half a sense of decency by saying that Obama shouldn't be leaving notes anyway. Thank goodness this is not their policy and it's not how they behaved. They condemned the whole thing, saying that what any man puts in the Wall is his private business and communication with God. For perhaps the first time in my life, I will say, good job rabbis in Israel.

Media Reaction

The most fascinating part about this to me is not that someone took the piece of paper. I could have called that. Instead, I love the way other media, like the BBC for instance (where I read this story originally), behaved. They seemed to condemn the Israeli newspaper for publishing the note, agreeing that it was private and an inappropriate journalistic act, and then proceeded to publish the note in full again. It was as if they loved the fact that it had already been published so that they could 'justly' do it and never get any heat for it. I could hear those British pricks giggling behind the html I was viewing (but maybe that was just my medication wearing off).

In any case, in like fashion, I too would like to show you what Barack Obama wrote, not only to allow the hypocrisy of my own story to come full circle, but also to note the fact that the presidential candidate was obviously prepared for such an occurrence. Why do I say that? Because there is nothing particularly personal on his note that could ever be construed as embarrassing or problematic or able for anyone to take issue with. It was a fluff note - obviously sincere - but nonetheless, a fluff note. Nearly anyone could have written it:

Lord - Protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will.

Personally, I would have loved to see a, "Let me kick John McCain's old, white, wrinkly bitch-ass come November."

Israel, the Jewish state, since 1948 - has caused much help and damage to it's neighbor to the north, Lebanon.

Even still recently, Amine Gemayel, the son of Pierre, and brother of Bashir, was the first to announce talks with Israel after the Syrian withdrawal in 2005, which strongly forbade Lebanon having any talks with Israel.

The top disagreement Lebanese Christians and Israeli Jews have, is the issue of 400'000 Palestinian refugees residing in tiny, religiously sensitive Lebanon; Palestinians refugees were chased by Israel into Lebanon in the late 40's and early 50's. It has become a case of Jewish existence in the 'Holy land', or a threat to Christianity's existence in the holy land. (Qana: 1996, 2006).

Now, in pseudo-preparation for the second season premiere of AMC's much-hyped Mad Men, I'm watching the first season and dislike it. Mad Men is obsessively period--it's set in the heady advertising years of the '60s- but is so overboard that it simply becomes a caricature-ish wet dream of what 2008 wishes the decade was like. Everyone smokes, the costumes are spot-on, but there is a mania for demonstrating the ruthless sexism, anti-semitism, and homophobia of the period that exaggerates and makes manifest what surely must have been a much more subtle and pervasive social tone. The script of Mad Men is funny and well-written, but it amounts, nonetheless, to a semi-obscene bout of back-patting. "Look at us!", the characters scream, "we live in the early 60s and it's sooooo backward! Good for you, 2008!" Jew jokes alternating with quips about women's place sprinkle the script so heavily that the period is re-envisioned as a no-holds-barred, non-stop verbal artillery attack on women and minorities. This is not to say, of course, that this kind of thing didn't take place, but it surely was not so overtly exhibited. Weiner, rather than capturing the 60s, has rewritten them.

Can anyone imagine some good news about Israel?  Or about the Jewish empire? Clearly they are a law unto themselves. If they can point to someone as a jew who thinks it stinks, then that is good for the Jews.

On February 8, 1988, Newsweek magazine quoted an Israeli soldier: " We got orders to knock on every door, enter and take out all the males. The younger ones we lined up with their faces against the wall, and soldiers beat them with billy clubs. This was no private initiative, these were orders from our company commander.  . . . After one soldier finished beating a detainee, another soldier called him ‘you Nazi,’ and the first man shot back: ‘You bleeding heart.’ When one soldier tried to stop another from beating an Arab for no reason, a fist fight broke out."

These were the old days before conscience was eliminated from the ranks of the Israeli military.

In the London Sunday Times, June 19, 1977, Ralph Schoenman, executive director of the Bertrand Russell Foundation, wrote: "Israeli interrogators routinely ill-treat and torture Arab prisoners. Prisoners are hooded or blindfolded and are hung by their wrists for long periods. Most are struck in the genitals or in other ways sexually abused. Most are sexually assaulted. Others are administered electric shock."

Amnesty International concluded that "there is no country in the world in which the use of official and sustained torture is as well established and documented as in the case of Israel."

Even the pro-Israeli Washington Post reported: "Upon arrest, a detainee undergoes a period of starvation, deprivation of sleep by organized methods and prolonged periods during which the prisoner is made to stand with his hands cuffed and raised, a filthy sack covering the head. Prisoners are dragged on the ground, beaten with objects, kicked, stripped and placed under ice-cold showers."

Sounds like Abu Ghraib. There are news reports that Israeli torture experts participated in the torture of the detainees assembled by the American military as part of the Bush Regime’s propaganda onslaught to convince Americans that Iraq was overflowing with al Qaeda terrorists.  On July 23, 2008, Antiwar.com posted an Iraqi news report that the Iraqi government had released a total of 109,087 Iraqis that the Americans had "detained." Obviously, these "terrorist detainees" had been used for the needs of Bush Regime propaganda.  No one will ever know how many of them were abused by Israeli torturers imported by the CIA.

The same arrogance is exersized throughout the jewish domain. Anyone who is in opposition, can expect no privacy, and their every effort to be distorted and interfered with. And of course to be watched 24 hours a day.

No one but no one can do a thing about it, except the Israelis! Or they lose a war, or they lose power.

Why is there almost always an element of sexual humiliation involved?

I still plan on avoiding an all out frontal assault. I do not seek debate, yet I want to lay out some of the reasons why I and my people reject Jesus and Christianity. All of these questions can be answered by Christian apologists, but do these answers resonate with truth? This is a question of what I call internal consistency vs. external consistency. Something is internally consistent only after you accept premises to bring you "into the club." If a cult leader claims to be a prophet, then certain favors from twelve year old girls could be important to quelling satanic desires in the entire world to help bring the messiah. However, that won't be externally consistent because prophesy in the Jewish usage of the word is objectively verifiable and not a title for every charismatic pervert.

These questions are not meant to hurt or destroy. I hope they help you wherever you are.

1. If G-d gives the rules in front of the entire nation, establishing His reality and law in front of a couple of million people with miracles, signs, and wonders, how could a fair G-d change the rules without calling everyone back to cancel the original plan with as much fanfare?

2. Where is peace on earth? The Messiah that everyone awaits is the one to usher in a new era. That "ushering in" process is to happen in the Messiah's life.

3. Where is the oral tradition? The written Torah is nonsensical without it. We're told to circumsize our sons, but there are no instructions how. We're told that animals must be slaughtered properly, but again - no instructions. We're told to place signs on our arm and "totafot" between our eyes, but this isn't explained. There are questions and seeming contradictions on nearly every verse, yet with no oral companion to explain it people still praise this book. I hear how the atheists and non-believers attack the Bible and I find myself agreeing with them because without an oral tradition, this book does seem to be more than a little strange.

4. Is G-d fickle? There are over 20 examples of G-d telling the Jews in the Five Books that a particular commandment is forever. What does that mean?

5. This is a part 'B' of the above question. There are several chapters where G-d talks about the reality that the Jews will stray. There is no mention of a new approach to serving Him. There is not a mention of going so far as to end the era of Torah law. Instead the verses talk of the Jews returning.

6. I also wonder about the role of blind faith in many Christian systems. Why would G-d give you such a marvelous tool as logical thought if at the center of your entire belief system you are required to suspend it. The difference in Jewish theology is subtle yet nearly polar opposite to blind faith.

They are weak for a purpose.  So men can dominate them.  Take them home, and install their seed in the womb to create life.  American women have turned into something different.

People from far away lands come to America and are shocked.  Females in America consist mostly of disgusting fat slobs who are proud of their absolute hideousness.  Even the beautiful feminine looking females shock foreigners.

Instead of a womanly attitude, American women have a poor attitude and no values outside of the self only attitude which is consistent

amongst ALL AMERICANS.

If everything written does not sound right, you are either an American female who can't believe that people know exactly how you think, or a brainwashed American who has their eyes closed.

Get away from the TV, internet, or your church and walk around your local city and just open your eyes and observe what is going on around you.

It may be hard not doing what the mass media, your parents, and your American government have told you your entire miserable life but try.

A while back, I got an email that really upset me.  It was one of these emails designed to create hate and fear amongst the American population.  To top it off, it was even untrue.

The email stated that the British government had passed a law into effect that the Holocaust will no longer be taught in British schools due to Muslims not believing it ever happened and to appease their sensibilities.

I'm so tired of the hate, the lies, the propaganda.  How many people send out these emails to God knows who with these sick and twisted messages on them?  How many people believe this stuff because it must be true... its on the internet!  The internet with all of its goodness also has its evils and I'm afraid this is one of the worst. 

I have corrected many stories like this to those who have sent them to me.  I often wonder what the motivation in sending them could be.  To anyone who is educated, you look foolish.  To those who are ignorant, you simply spread fear and hate.  Is this what you really want to do? 

So please, think before you forward or write email.  You never ever know who will end up reading what you write.

I happen to be spending the week in Lakewood visiting my sister, and my gorgeous nieces. The fire was around the corner from her. So, I spent some time watching the fire myself, watching it with my nieces, with one niece and then the other. It’s terrible that I was entertained by a fire, but in its own freakish way, it’s beautiful. That’s not my point though.

My point is, that the second my sister and brother-in-law heard which house the fire was in they went.

“Yay, an insurance fire.”

Forget my brother-in-law, he’s sarcastic and jaded. My sister is sweet, naive and not jaded. Really, she’s not. What she said reflected a sad and embarrassing reality.

I don’t know what the real story behind the fire is. Neither do the fire marshalls, as they’re still here investigating. The fact that every Lakewood resident I spoke to about the fire had to stick in insurance arson into their commentary is telling.

I don’t have to elaborate much. Yes, you and I know that this stereotype is based on a select bunch of selfish individuals. It’s really the principle of the matter, that’s getting me mad. This whole incident is just adding fuel to the fire of my “Jews versus Goyim” argument.

If you want to believe that you are better than them, then make yourself better because you’re better, not because they are worse (Think of Noach’s tzadkus vs. Avraham’s )

Maybe I’ll lay out my whole stream of consciousness on this topic some other time, but for the meantime, I’m fuming.

For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things. Romans 15:27 (NASB).

To whom do the Gentiles owe this debt of gratitude? According to Paul, it is to the "poor among the saints in Jerusalem." I think this is a realization that Gentiles are just now starting to appreciate. Paul explains that the Gentiles in Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make this contribution to the "poor among the saints in Jerusalem" because of the spiritual debt of gratitude they owed to the Jews.

As far as I am able to tell from scripture, this debt has yet to be fully paid. Our debt owed for our sin has been paid in full through faith in Yeshua the Messiah of Israel, but I believe the same grace extended to us as Gentiles through Yeshua should be extended to the poor among our Jewish brethren through our generous giving.

This should come as no surprise. Paul's statement is simply a reminder to the Gentiles of the promise the Lord made to Abraham in Genesis 12:3:

I will bless those who bless you

And curse him that curses you. (JPS Hebrew-English Tanakh)

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is actually, one of the most manly men on the planet. He has "Ahmadinejad" man points.

This of course, as with Clint Eastwood, means he is so manly, that his man points cannot be calculated, and "Ahmadinejad" is taken as a numeric value relating to: "Clint Eastwood" (a numeric value relating to infinity) man points, minus one.

This means:
Where Clint Eastwood, is equal to infinity, Ahmadinejad is equal to Clint Eastwood, minus one.

and in turn, this translates to the following constant:

"Ahmadinejad, like Clint Eastwood, is very much, above the law."

Mahmoud is the most manly leader a country could ever wish for, he pisses on the UN, he shits on America, and he spews streams of manly steaming hot vomit on the Jews, (I've nothing against the Jews of course, in fact, I quite like the Jews, they own my bank, they run it efficiently - however, I do find that Mahmoud's actions cancel out my love for the Jews, as it is scientifically proven that: Mahmoud = More luzly than the Jews.)

People are too dumb to be allowed freedom of expression, because every view they express is utterly retarded. Barring all my views of course, because my views are obviously genius poured out through the medium of the English language.

5. Mahmoud is so well dressed, he makes Jean-Paul Gaultier feel like fashion's bitch boy.
6. Mahmoud has 6 penises. All of them, are as long as the Qu'ran.
7. Mahmoud has had sex with your wife more times than you have.

Any leader that sports quotes such as

is just fucking cool in my book, I don't need anymore reasoning than that to fully support a man in his quest.

In the UK, we have politicians who hide their real agendas and thieve and and corrupt all around them in snide little ways, playing the blame game as soon as they get caught, well fuck that shit, I'd much rather have a guy like Mahmoud, who just comes out and says it as it is, "Yea, I hate the Jews, yea, there's no gays here, yea, I'm pretty much a terrorist, yea we have nukes and we hate everyone!"

As opposed to the panzy boys we have in British parliament, who pander to the idiot public and blame everyone but themselves when their popularity dwindles and evaporates into a void of non-existence and disinterest.

Mahmoud is like an Islamic superhero, his powers include hating the gays, smiting the Jews, plausible denial, misogyny, and owning an army of hovercraft...

Mahmoud is manly as shit, he's so manly, that he fucked his old school teacher.

Mahmoud also took part in The 1979 Islamic Revolution. Although he's too modest to admit to it. This is mostly because, if he admitted to this, everyone would know that, in actuality, Mahmoud is Anti-Semitic-Misogyny-lovin'-homophobia man! The manliest of all super-heroes!

I hereby award, Mahmoud, Virgil's "Manly mother-fucker of the month" award. I think Mahmoud is so cool, I'm gonna put him in my blog roll, under the category of "Virgil's Manly Mother-Fuckers"

Another of Mahmoud's superhero powers, is the super hero pose. Not so much as power, as it is a trait common amoungst super heroes, enjoy these fine examples of Mahmouds posing prowess.

I very much imagine, that if I were indeed a steaming Islamic hottie, this is how I would gaze at Mahmoud when he wasn't looking.

Our society has some serious problems.  We’re at war, I guess.  Millions are unemployed, and even those that are employed are having trouble making ends meet with the rising gas prices starting to raise the prices of pretty much every other consumer good.  Thankfully, the good people at the Department of Motor Vehicles of Arkansas have their priorities straight and are taking care of the issues that really matter to the American people.  Let’s just say that Jesse Jackson would be proud.

Little Rock resident Alice Kunce got a new license plate recently that read 018 NGR.  She decided that this was a racist license plate and refused to put it on her car, eventually led to the state pulling all plates that read NGR.  Keep in mind that Alice Kunce is a white woman.

When asked for a comment, two black employees at the company that issues license plates weighed in on this explosive issue thusly: "No, I mean, why? I mean it's nothing.  They are just letters on a license tag, you know. If you get your tags they probably didn't mean nothing by it. She's just taking it the wrong way, you know.”  

I suppose that if you got vanity plates that said NGR, you probably aren’t the type of cat I want to hang out with, but I think by and large, the unnamed black employees have it right.

Here, for your approval, Friesen Point would like to list a series of other letter combinations that also need to be discontinued if the Arkansas DMV hopes to hold on to any appearance of consistency.  Somehow, I doubt they’re going to do it.
