In this article, I would like to present to you the main arguments why most people like to travel around the world in a private jet rather than making use of commercial airlines.

Faye has definitely got to be a whore that can shoot a gun but I really hope they don’t pick Angelina Jolie just because of her roles in things like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Wanted (Even though supposedly it was good, but I haven’t seen it). It popped into my mind that maybe George Clooney could do Jet, lol but I dunno how big of a budget this movie is gonna have.

I also hope that the movie is rated R because I don’t think they could really get into all of the goodness that is Cowboy Bebop without it being that high. Also I don’t want stupid little kids who stay up past their bed time to watch it in the theater with me lol.

If you think the price of gas hurts when you fill up your car, just try topping off a 747 jet with tens of thousands of gallons.  Rising oil prices have battered the airline industry, causing money strains and plans for more cuts in flights.

Most of the major U.S. air carriers (United, US Air, Delta, American and Continental) have all posted losses within the last week.  The overall economy is certainly a factor as individuals and businesses cut back on travel to save money.  But fuel prices are the biggest part of the problem right now.

If you can't afford gas for your car, what do you do?  You don't drive as much.  If an airline can't afford gas, what does it do?  It doesn't fly as much.  And that is exactly what the airlines are doing. 

Most carriers are cutting the number of flights they offer each day and some cities are seeing a huge drop in takeoffs.  The drop is also allowing the airlines to make staff cuts.  After all, it takes very few employees not to fly a plane.

Analysts say the major U.S. carriers are in trouble and we may soon see some join together while others go out of business altogether. 

This means we'll have even fewer flights to choose from and they will probably be more expensive and crowded.  On the bright side, maybe that uncle who makes strange noises won't be able to visit this year.

I am moving to Kochi, Japan as an ALT in the JET PROGRAMME!!

Yes, that's right. After months of preparing, applying, waiting, interviewing, waiting again, getting the results, getting placements etc. it has all come down to this upcoming- D-Day, (departure day in this context, coincidentally enough my birthday falls on the historical D-Day), this upcoming Saturday, July 26. Where I will board a plane that will take me from pretty much everything I've known and tons of people I love and will certainly miss, to a foreign country, where I don't speak the language (yet!..I hope..), and I have NEVER lived by myself.

Up to this point I've lived either at home or in a dorm room, or in community housing, or in an apartment all with either my family or roommates. So this is big. And to be perfectly honest my emotions pendulate between total excitement and utter fear, not unlike my feelings for rollercoasters, where while I wait in line I sometimes hold inner debates with myself as to why I would strap myself into a cart and go very fast, doing loops, and drops. Why I would trust the laws of physics and straps to some pimply-faced teenager cranking the knobs and pushing the buttons all the while hearing the manic screaming and whooshing of the coaster carts. But then as I get to the front of the line, most of the fears are left behind as I make a mad dash for the very front cart or as close to the front as I can get anyways. Basically this long analogy comes down to this: That despite said fears, I will make a mad dash to the very front of that cart and hold on to dear life. (The cart representing my move to Japan and all that's entailed.)

So I started this blog to help me document what I've done, what I'm doing and what I plan to do, and hopefully will keep everyone (who is interested) updated for the most part. That's it for now - more to come!

The first light freight jet touched down on Wednesday morning, carrying hundreds of parcels and crates for the city and neighbouring areas. This follows on from the introduction of small airmail delivery craft which began landing at the airport in February.

The increase comes as air freight services, which had spent the last 8 years landing at nearby RAF Bricklebury, were ceased.

Recent improvements to Brickford's rail services means that some freight will be distributed via rail whilst others will be distributed by road. The move was welcomed by the city council and it has created a number of new jobs.

I would also like to complain that the embed feature changes the aspect ratio to 4:3, and I wanted it to stay in the 16:9 format, so there's no black space, just suddenly a moving picture in the webpage. I just think it looks sleaker that way, with no controls for the video until you roll over. If somebody would happen to know how to change the embed for a WordPress hosted blog, I would most appreciate it.

But first, the story.  Sid and I got a call Sunday afternoon from Sid's dad and uncle.  They said they were flying in and wondered if we could pick them up in 5 minutes.  (We, of course, agreed and rushed over).  Sid's uncle asked if we would like to go on a plane ride.  I wasn't so sure how I felt about it, but decided it was now or never.  I decided to give it a try. 

As we ascended, I thought my stomach was going to jump out of my body.  It's amazing how much you appreciate the nice, stable ground, when it's no longer under your feet.  It was amazing to see the plane work and experience the wonderful qualities of the wind.  But, I won't lie.  I seriously considered asking to turn the plane around. 

We reached a calm area and I loosended my grip on the chair next to me long enough to break out the camera.  I began to click that familiar button, and my nerves loosened.  We reached the Grand Tetons, and I was amazed.  Everything was breathtaking.  Up to this point, I thought I was terrible at landscape photography and should leave it to the experts.  But, the photos turned out amazing.  As we began to return home, we realized how dark it was and worried that we wouldn't make it home before we could no longer read the map.  I tried to ignore my concerns by clicking the shutter button even more. 

Needless to say, we made it home.  And now that I have processed a few photos, those photos might be the only thing that makes me return into a small plane again.  Thank goodness for my trusty camera.

Well, the application period is getting nearer - according to the JET UK website this kicks off in late September this year. With that in mind I thought I'd write a little about what the JET programme is, and how it works.

The programme is 21 years old this year, and has to date placed over 44,000 people in positions across Japan. It is a government scheme to improve language and cultural teaching in its schools.

The most common position, Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), involves assisting the English teachers with classes, preparing materials and taking part in extra-curricular activities. You don't need to know Japanese to do this, as the students are expected to communicate in English during lessons. For applicants with good spoken and written Japanese, the position of Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) is also available, although the number of places is very limited.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree and have a full UK passport. They must not have lived in Japan for 3 of the last 8 years, and they must be under 40. Other conditions are listed on the JET website.

Pregunta tonta del día : por que quieres que la gente lea tu blog ??

Of course everyone is quite ready for the semester to be over, myself included. The past two weeks or so have been really really hot. Grades were also due about 2 weeks ago, so basically they have been pointless and miserable for everyone involved. The teacher's room is cool, but the classrooms are swealtering; none of the kids can concentrate in this heat, and why should they since their grades were already due? Even the teachers are mostly over it. Today some of them were competing to see whose classroom was hotter.

I haven't had many classes in a while, so I've been bored most of the time. Tomorrow I'm headed to America for a month long visit. I'm really excited, and could use the break; I need a chance to appreciate what it is I have here. I'm really going to miss my kids when I don't see them for 4-6 weeks. They are really the only thing that makes this job worth doing.

The 3nensei continue to be hilarious for the most part. It's becoming more and more evident how teenage-boy the boys are. One of them asked me "How many bust?" the other day. All of them have to quit club activities soon and start studying their lives away to prepare for the entrance exams they will take in the spring.

I'm becoming more and more fond of the 2nensei. One boy in particular is becoming one of my favorite students to talk to, even though he stubbornly refuses to talk in English. I don't know what it is, maybe that he obviously really wants to talk to me all the time, but tries to pretend he's really cool. The 2nensei girls are just really ridiculous, but they're much more personable now that they are more comfortable with English. One of them kicked up my skirt today and then asked, in what I assume to be all seriousness, if foreigners menstrated. I don't even know.

So, I will surely miss them. But absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that, right? I plan on getting a lot of prizes and taking a lot of pictures for them when I'm in America. I'm hoping that I'll return from my vacation invigorated, ready to tackle another year here. Hopefully one that involves more travelling, more money saving, and more asserting myself at school now that I have a better idea as to what is going on.

I wanted to partake in RB's Flash Fiction Group's Avatar Challenge, which asks members to create a new avatar for the group.  The catch?  Well, since this is a flash fiction group, the avatar had to be accompanied by a flash fiction story that embodied the essence of the avatar.

So, I was off and writing and came up with the flash fiction story appropriately titled "Flash Fiction", which can now be found in my Red Bubble Writing Gallery.

One can only imagine how Orville and Wilbur felt when the Wright flyer actually got off the ground in 1903, changing the aeronautic face of transportation forever. If they were alive today, amazed they would be.

Commercial aviation was considered a luxury for some time, and then one day, a Pan Am 747 wide-bodied jet came along which could seat 336 passengers. After some non-stop production of the colossal beast, it was affordably possible for anyone to come fly the friendly skies, and for an extra price, a person could relish in comfortable seating and drink wine from glass stemware as a curtain divided the economical masses.

Do you remember the first time you traveled by airplane? Oh, what a breathtaking wonder it was. To photograph miles of cumulus terrain at 36,000 feet, I requested a window seat without wing or engine obstruction, and to this day, I still hold true to form. Plus, a mixed drink from the refreshment cart added to the euphoric take-off and landing experience. Even if not in 1st Class, flying was an absolute joy to behold.

But now, instead of perusing the SkyMall catalog and leisurely popping pretzels into your mouth, you're ridden several miles above the Earth with guilt over having to sell your first-born child in order to afford the trip.

Carriers are scaling back services and cutting routes at mach speed as jet fuel prices climbed almost 100 percent in the past year alone. Some will even start charging a $25 fee next month for redemption of frequent flier miles while each piece of luggage now costs extra to transport, and if you can't afford the extra bag but will be away for several days, enjoy wearing the same clothes.

Adding insult to gas pump injury, if you have to catch a flight in a neighboring state because the local 'international' airport doesn't offer your destination of choice, there goes the second-born child as you fill up your own vehicle in order to get there.

And what's even worse? No more in-flight snacks.

There's no dispute that airline companies have dire financial pressures, and it's safe to say that 9/11 was a contributor in their downward spiral. But what used to be a fun, convenient option for travel has taken a round-trip of its own, again becoming a luxury that many will sadly not be able to afford.

Flying doesn't seem as special anymore, and maybe all carriers should start using one universal slogan of travesty: "We love to fly and it blows."

According to the Standard newspaper, Kenya will replace its own aging F-5 fighter jets with 15 F-5s being disposed by the Jordanian Airforce. The government will pay Kshs1.5 billion ($23 million at current rates) for acquisition and transportation of the craft from Jordan. The money will also cater for spare parts and the training of Kenyan crews.

The $23 million price tag for used, obsolete fighter craft may raise more than a little eyebrows. Kenya's economy was badly affected by violence early this year following disputed elections in December 2007. Though the government has pledged to rebuild vandalized properties and to compensate those affected by the clashes, funds are difficult to come by. Government estimates put the reconstruction budget at Shs31 billion ($500 million).

Corruption allegations in government circles may hinder the flow of funds from traditional donor nations. At the same time, uncertainty caused by political wrangling is expected to slow down investment, further undermining economic performance. Rising food and oil prices are hitting the population especially hard, further worsening the effects of poverty and 60% unemployment.

The F-5 fighter jet was developed by Northrop Corporation in the 1950s as a light combat aircraft. During the Cold War, the F-5 proved popular with allies of the United States especially in the developing world. Kenya acquired its F-5 fleet in the 1970s and 80s and probably wants to replace its aging aircraft by acquiring the same model elsewhere.

However, the last F-5 was built in 1989, indicating that the Jordanian jets are at least 20 years old. Airforce top brass are yet to explain why they could not buy new fighter jets that are readily available in the international arms market.

This would not be the first time that a purchase of military hardware in Kenya is causing scandal. An ally of President Mwai Kibaki was forced to resign several years ago, after it emerged that a ship the Navy had ordered was a converted civilian vessel. Kenya's Police force has also come under heavy criticism for buying oversized, second hand helicopters from Russia, and whose maintenance is becoming very expensive.

Within East Africa, Uganda, has experienced a "junk helicopters" scandal. The government of President Yoweri Museveni bought obsolete helicopters from Russia at above-average prices. One of the helicopters crashed in 2006, killing among other people the new President of Southern Sudan, Dr John Garang.
