JP Calderon is a gorgeous volleyball player who appeared in the US reality show Survivor.  He was asked to appear in the The Janice Dickinson Show to become a model and on the show he outed himself as gay (oh dream, boys!!)  Check out that episode here:

Janice was driving with her son on the Sunset Strip and yacking on her cellphone when she was pulled over by West Hollywood Sheriff's deputies. Janice was really pissed when she saw a papper jaywalking in the middle of the street, presumably to get a shot of her. She pitched a fit, and the pap got cited. Two other pappers got tickets for driving without license plates.

We're told that Janice was actually put in the back of a patrol car, but a deputy says it was because there were so many paparazzi around they feared for her safety.

Why is America so obsessed with Brangelina, J-Lo, Puff Diddy, Snoop Dogg and the rest of the celebutant world?  Are we are really so bored that we have to entertain ourselves with Brangelina’s Brady Bunch family?  Reality TV is actually getting really ridiculous.  I saw Janice Dickinson on some reality show – I wasn’t aware she was still alive.  Her actions are so bizarre – does she really act like a spoiled child in real life?  I find it really hard to believe that she’s that nutty, but apparently reality TV fans still watch the ancient once popular supermodel.       The more Janice Dickinson and Paula Abdul cry, the more money the TV execs and Cable/Satellite Networks make.    No offense, it’s just business, honey.

I normally don’t watch these trashy shows these days, raising a 4 year old and juggling several careers.  I was flipping through the channels last night looking for a good documentary, only to notice that Channel 236 on DIRECTV is the E! Channel and the annoying Joel McHale on TV with a show called the Soup.  Again, he blasts the outrageous moments in reality TV – some of them aren’t that funny, just silly or plain stupid.   

I really liked Greg Kinnear back in the days of the talk show fad (Jerry Springer, Geraldo, and Montel Williams).   Greg Kinnear was a lot funnier and had more witty things to say.  Joel’s voice reminds me of an English professor I had in college, who wore wire rimmed glasses and he frequently made jokes no could understand, though it was in English.   Only the foreigners taking ESL classes laughed whole-heartedly.

Also, I realize its old news now, but the once rejected and broken-hearted. Oh well, tune in tomorrow for the latest news why Janice Dickinson cried on the next episode of her bad reality show - what was it called, again?

One day, I was looking at a reality TV news blog, because I had heard that American Idol was going to be having auditions somewhere in Kentucky for the upcoming season (I've always wanted to audition, just so I could say that I had). While searching for this nugget of reality TV wisdom, I came across a website called RealityCares.com, which is a volunteer organization whose sole purpose is to address the most pressing issues that face the world today, whether it is Hurricane Katrina relief or fighting AIDS in Africa.

Now, you are probably wondering what this has to do with reality television. Well, Reality Cares is made up of executives, producers, writers, cast members, publicists, and even viewers of reality television! Amongst such people are American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos (also of Planet Green's Hollywood Green), Marc Marcuse of Average Joe fame, Survivor alums Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich, Ethan Zohn, Jenna Morasca, and Jonny Fairplay.

Now that I knew who was involved with Reality Cares, I wanted to see what kind of things they did to raise funds. Granted, what I found was your typical Hollywood-type gatherings, with beautiful people walking around every way you looked. One event I really found interesting, however, was an eco-friendly fashion show hosted by "The World's First Supermodel", Janice Dickinson.

The show was designed to prove that you could wear sustainable and environmentally friendly clothing while maintaining the fashion sensibilities of modern society. Among the designers showcased at the event were Deborah Lindquist, Carushka, Green Guru Gear, Haute Trash, and M The Movement.

NOTE: I do not follow the fashion world very closely, so I have no clue who any of these people are. These links only became available to me after I searched for them on Google.

Among the guests in attendance were Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty), Michael Maloney (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), Cameron Johnson (Oprah's Big Give), and the cast of a brand new reality series "Greatest American Dog" (and I thought "Flavor of Love" was an odd show).

While I may not be a fan of reality television, I am a fan of anyone who attempts to educate or address the issues that face this world today, whether is is environmentalism, medical care, disaster relief, or global epidemics. It is, with this in mind, that I recommend that anyone who loves their planet or believes in bringing attention to the causes that matter most to head over to Reality Cares and volunteer your services today.

Today -- in what we can now confirm was the biggest day ever at The Gay Recluse (from a traffic-whore perspective) -- we had the pleasure of having Dan Savage link to our smokin' hot gay-statue contest. We encourage you to check out the full post on Slog ("Strike a Pose"), which -- if you're not familiar with it -- has many times led us to fantasize about moving to Seattle. Be sure to enjoy the comments, which run the gamut from hilariously annoying to sadly self-hating to righteously bitchy. (That said, we'll let you connect those particular dots.) Moving away from statues, we also wanted to take this opportunity to officially endorse Dan Savage as our choice for vice-president of the United States. Ok, stop rolling your eyes if you think we're endorsing him just because he was kind enough to promote our statue contest. A careful examination of the record will reveal several instances in which we made similar comments around the blogosphere to the same effect, not because we had any particular hope of currying his favor, but because we think he would be better than 99 percent of current office holders, particularly those with access to the Oval Office. (Plus, Curbed also linked to the statue post, and we're not endorsing them for vice-president, although frankly we wouldn't mind seeing a few of those guys on the city council.)

Regular readers of The Gay Recluse know that we've already endorsed Barack Obama for president (after giving up on Geraldine Ferraro and -- our longstanding but secret wish -- Janice Dickinson), but whoever gets the nod -- even Hillary Clinton, who we also support, just not as much as Obama -- would be smart to put Dan Savage at the top of his or her shortlist of potential running mates. It could be the difference between between a Democratic victory and another four years of _____!

Consider the assets/demographics Savage brings to the table:

• Proven asshole-Republican slayer (ask Rick Santorum)
• Knows what a blog is (the youth vote, omg!)
• Gay (the gay vote)
• Family guy (the soccer-mom vote, lol)
• Likes cities (the urban vote)
• Environmentally conscious (the idiots-who-voted-for-Nader-in-2000 vote, wtf)
• Admits when he's made a mistake (the progressive vote)
• Has a heart (the liberal vote)
• Tough (the blue-collar vote)
• Immune to scandal (the dipshit-independent vote)
• Good on television (the television vote)

Seriously, could anyone else be better situated on the Democratic ticket? Who would you rather have go head-to-head with whatever asshole Republican John McCain has at his side? John Edwards? Al Gore? Mayor Bloomberg? That idiot from New Mexico who said sexual orientation was a choice (to a gay audience)? Dodd? Biden? Zzzzzzzzzzzz. No thanks to all of the above.

Listen up, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton! Here's your chance to buck conventional wisdom: choose Dan Savage as your running mate this summer and reap the rewards with a landslide victory in November. Our fucked-up country awaits your decision: for once, make it a good one.
