The only Olympic Record Israel is going to make is...

Isragirl Presents : Tortoise Olympics, Video by itnsource ©

Not without its share of world wide controversy, the Olympic Games will soon storm into our lives. Israel is sending a tiny group of athletes, most - or all of them, weren't born in Israel (thank god for the massive Russian Immigration). We have no expectations this time, an Olympic medal - no matter how esoteric - is simply out of our reach this year. But hay, that's OK, at least we took the gold medal at the Mathematics Olympics for high school students that took place in Madrid on Sunday. In fact, Israeli students got to the second and third places too (the Russian Immigration, did we mention?).

Considering our poor prospects in the Beijing Games and our fantasies of being cool and not merely math-geeks, we have decided to hold in Israel the Tortoise Olympics. Take a look at this sweet clip from the Safari in Ramat Gaan (15 min from the center of Tel Aviv). Its not a big safari but if you are in Israel on a summer vacation with your children, the Safari should be on your list of attractions.

In case the safari is not your thing, Israel has a wide selection of National Parks and you can enjoy the local wildlife as well as the beauty of visitors, such as European birds crossing the Israeli sky on their way to Africa (for winter). Who knows, maybe this Olympics clip will spark an idea for your own Eco tour of Israel or an active journey across the Holy Land.

PS - The sound is crap on this video, so in case you were wondering the Israeli tortoise broke the Olympic record that day (for their kind). They ran at the amazing speed of one kilometer per hour.

Enjoy Israel's Eco Tourism, National Parks and Natural Beauty

Listen up, you really don't have to understand Hebrew to enjoy this one, if you are in Israel whether on a beach vacation, business trip, family visit or on some kind of religious/historical trip, make time and try and get tickets to at least one of the excellent concerts that will be held in the open Roman amphitheater of Caesarea. The Festival is called The Blue House merely because it is sponsored by a local cell phone company that has a blue brick logo, but if you know some one who's a customer, they can help you get discounted tickets or maybe if you purchased their sim card for your local use - that may help too.

All musicians participating in the festival are leading Israeli artists and this will be a fantastic opportunity to get a taste of Israeli music new and older... If you've never been to Caesarea arrive early and take a look around the archeological park, or play golf in the near Caesarea Golf Club.

The annual concert in Memory of Meir Ariel (July 24) - Meir Ariel died nine years ago in tragic circumstances, he was one of Israel's best lyric writers and song writers and wrote so many beloved songs for himself and others. Since his death a concert is being held each year with Israel's finest musicians who sing his songs for a crowed of devoted fans that still find it hard to believe that this special man is gone. Isragirl Tip: If you can - go to this concert, you will see young and veteran Israeli performers and musicians - it will be awesome. The video above is very strange indeed, don't know who it was made by but its not THE video clip of the song... Still its a cool video and it does capture the essence of the song which is about a man who had a psychotic episode or brake down and when he was released from the mental institution his doctor advised him to visit the airport for relaxation. Note: you may need to buffer before watching.
Other concerts on the festival program:
HaKhverim Shel Natasha (Natasha's Friends) - Celebrating twenty years. The fantastic band unites for a special concert celebrating 20 years to their first album. This would be my second choice, this band was blessed with two very talented song writers and vocals, Arkadi Dukhin and Mikha Shitrit and all their albums are favorites of mine. (July 31)
Glikeriya and Boaz Sharaabi - Two great vocals meet for a night of great music. (Aug 8)
Yehudit Ravitz and friends - Also celebrating 20 years to one of her albums - Coming from Love. She is a wonderful performer and singer and it will probably be one of the most energetic concerts. (Aug 14)
Bery Sakharof hosting Yehuda Poliker - This should be a very interesting combination of two very unique musicians. Old Israeli rock meats new and alternative rock, Greek music meets electronic vibes. Recommended!!! (Aug 28)
Rita hosting Kobi Aflalo - Israel's most popular female vocalist hosting a young and recently very popular musician. (Sep 6)

Tickets: 03-5215200 or *2274

If not for the music go to the Blue House Festival for the open amphitheater overlooking the moon lighted sea

Summer is definitely here, this fact was established in a series of recent posts, but now its also summer vacation and soon even the students will be done with there exams (in Israel the semester ends in June and exams are taken throughout July) and ready to party till the next fall semester. If you haven't made planes for this summer you are more then welcome to make your first, second or third trip to Israel, and spend some time here, checking out famous religious sites as well as, awesome beaches, crazy nightlife and fun, sexy atmosphere.

And while you are here don't forget to enjoy some Israeli Music. Today I would like to recommend a d-tour to the Israeli Negev Desert where you can enjoy archeology and serene desert landscape as well as cool music festivals... During the weekend of July 17-18th a fun festival called Desert Live will go down in summer heat and sweat at Golda Park - less then two hours from Tel Aviv (20 minutes from Beer-Sheva) next to Desert Oasis springs and pools. The organizers promise a weekend of excellent live music as well as fun outdoor activities that relate to the desert environment: bicycles trips, guided hiking tours from sunrise to sunset and a worm desert hospitality. In the music front you will be able to rock with some of Israel's leading musicians: on Thursday Yehudit Ravitz will host Moosh Ben-Ari and since their audience is usually some what different - the combination is meant to offer an amazing show and energies. On Friday, Shalom Hanokh will shout at the desert stars with his all night rock concert and every word is a waste of time - he is probably the most important rock musician Israel ever had, so if you've never seen him, this is the time (but only if you like rock!!!).

Accommodation and attractions: 08-6564184 rng.org.il

Tickets: 03-6045000 (including reservations for free bus trip from Tel Aviv)

It's been a while since I've posted photos from scenic Israel. I've decided its time to give Tel Aviv and all its markets and galleries and clubs a rest, and head into the wild, or the desert at least. I've chosen two photos; both competed in an online photography contest held by Mochiller. The competition took place a while ago and I have no clue about its outcome, but the pictures are stunning and they were taken in places less familiar to the tourist coming to Israel for the first time.

This photo by Niva Simon was taken in the small crater in the Negev. The craters of the Negev (Ramon Crater, Big Crater and Small Crater) formed over years due to the disappearing of the ocean and the change in river flows. The crater is a valley surrounded by steep walls and drained by a single riverbed. Ramon is the world's largest crater of this type. In the photo you can see a group of travelers walking towards the cliff edge. The vistas at all three craters are stunning.

The celebration may go on all night since close to sunrise another emotional ceremony awaits the girl: welcoming the sunrise of the longest day in the calendar (Jun 21). After two full days of 92 workshops, circles, celebrations and dancing, the festival will end in a ceremony lead by Shakti instructors and speakers, and with a gypsy dancing show and party.

Noa, Miri Mesika and Aya Korem, will be performing at the Milk and Honey Days Festival - Sweet Shavuot Treat for Everyone...

Isragirl Presents : Noa, Eye in the Sky, Video by Bluelf1 ©

I've chosen this video for the post for two main reasons: A) Eye in the sky is an exquisite song and I've loved it for many years...The cover by Achinoam Nini, known outside of Israel as Noa, is terrific and although a little sad, it brings new interpretation to the song and a new groove to it. B) The immediate excuse is that Noa will be performing this weekend on the Milk and Honey Days Festival held in the Jeasrael Valley every year during Shavuot. And now let me put some order in all this information:
This weekend is going to be a long weekend (Fri-Mon). Israel will be celebrating the Jewish Harvest festival - Shavuot. To make a long story short, Shavuot is considered to be the occasion upon which the Hebrews received the Torah on Mount Sinai and became a nation or "People" committed to serving God. Shavuot also has an agricultural context, since this is when we celebrate harvest and this was the holiday on which the Jews brought the First Fruits (Bikkurim in Hebrew) to the big Temple in Jerusalem.

Four main rituals (or customs) are associated with the holiday: 1) Dressing in White; 2) Eating Dairy Foods (supposedly cause the Torah is like milk and honey on our tongues); 3) Bikkurim (First Fruits) ceremonies in agricultural Israel; 4) Studying Torah all night (allegedly the Israelites overslept on the day they were meant to receive the Torah, and Moses had to wake them up while God was waiting. As a remedy to this terrible shame a beautiful custom of staying up and studying all night has developed over the years).

Many special events will be held across Israel during the holiday. The weather forcast is ideal and national parks as well as the Sea of Galilee are popular holiday attractions. Over 50 dairy farms will offer special guided tours as well as cheese tasting. The wineries of the Galilee, Golan Heights and Jerusalem area will join the celebration and since cheese go very well with wine, they will offer guided tours and tasting of their own.

The Milk and Honey Days Festival in the Jeasrael valley will welcome families to guided trips and walks, children workshops, Israeli Folk dancing marathon, navigation on bicycles competition and lots of music. Noa will be performing on Friday with "Genes and Jeans" - She will sing in Hebrew and English, new material from the last album as well as old and much loved songs. Miri Mesika will perform on Monday and will host Dani Robas and Aya Korem. (Festival Info: +972 04- 6520734).

In Jerusalem, the annual guided tours marathon of Yad Ben Zvi will take place this weekend and during the holiday. Over 120 guided tours through the streets of Jerusalem and around the Jerusalem area will be available to the public. Some tours will include artistic contributions by musicians and actors. Each tour will offer an original theme and participants can choose to follow historical events, architecture, religious sites or occurrences, famous figures that lived in the city or even famous characters from books and stories that took place in Jerusalem. (Info and reservations: Yad Ben Zvi 02-5398855).

Dress in white and celebrate with us the receiving of the Torah...Come to the land of Milk and Honey

Lev Tahor (Pure Heart) festival is a unique meeting place of teachers, musicians and participants from all parts of the world...

Isragirl Presents : Pure Heart Festival, Photo by levtahor.co.il ©

In the last few years it seems Israel has been taken hostage by a rare specie of very spiritual aliens. They look like every other human being (although they do speak funny sometimes) but they differ from the rest of us in their loving heart, optimism, enlightened look and addiction to hugging. I am not kidding here, it is impossible to locate one week throughout a whole year's calendar that doesn't have some kind of spiritual festival going on...

On a less cynical note I would probably admit that this is a positive development of Israeli society. Many Israelis (young and older: 18-70) travel to India and South East Asia and they bring home with them the love of meditation, ecstatic dancing, ethnical and traditional music and a general need to continue their work on self awareness, self love and self evolvement. It has been going on for almost a decade now and is way past the "trend" phase - it is Israel of the 21 century, Israel of the New Age...

Next week Israel will be celebrating Shavuot, an important Jewish holiday with agricultural significance as well as religious. Another significance of the holiday is the two days away from work it shell provide many, and the free time to attend YET another spiritual Festival...

The Pure Heart Festival (June 6-9) - four days of music, love, movement, touch and revival will take place in the magnificent Beit Oren. Hiding in the forest of the southern slops of Mount Carmel, Beit Oren is a lovely green spot and a brilliant location for a festival that embraces nature and celebrates it. During these four days your pure heart will get the chance to experience: World Music - leading musicians from Israel and around the world on stage, "Lev Tahor Circle" and artists' workshops; Yoga and Movement - with Israel's best workshop leaders; Teachers and Enlightenment Teachings - dozens of experiential, enriching workshops; Lev Tahor Cinema - spiritual movies; Children's Area - with a variety of activities for the entire family.

Participants can stay at the Beit Oren Hotel or build their own tent at the festival's camping area. Healthy food stands and energizing shakes will be available throughout the days and evenings, as well as chai-shops and other sitting areas. The workshops and instructed activities will be held inside the Biet Oren Hotel (air-conditioned), outside at the green space around the swimming pool and in the "fairy forest" amphitheater.

The unique "Lev Tahor Circle" is the festival's main event; Circle, Music, Singing and joint Meditation; a gathering of all the participants in the festival. The Singing Circle is an ecstatic, heart-opening experience, with some of the best world-music artists in Israel: Artistic director - Gil Ron Shema ("Sheva", "Diwan Halev"), Amir Shahasar, Gerhard Fankhauser, Einat Gilboa, Mark Eliyahu, Liat Zion, Yinon Darwish and Noam Chen. The festival hosts this year - for the first time in Israel - International artists, Deva Premal and Miten. The couple will hold a performance and lead an exclusive workshop for festival's participants.

Where: Beit Oren (15 min south of Haifa, on Mount Carmel)

Isragirl Presents : TLV Pride 2007, Video by Kuvaev ©

Its finally here, how exciting - the GLBT Pride parade 2008 will go down in chemically induced flames of passion, lots of electronic noise and extravagant outfits: this Friday, June 6, on the streets of Tel Aviv. The TLV Parade is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and in many ways the whole event is returning to its sources... The financial support and production is in the hands of the city hall, the actual parade will pass through shaded streets and will strut along the "wild side" area of Ben Yehuda Street.

The parade will start its way in Meir Garden - where the mayor of Tel Aviv will officially kick off a new city center for the GLBT community of TLV. The center had opened its doors to the public four months ago and every week some 400 people come here to enjoy its services (support groups for GLBT youth, groups for the older community, for the Trans community, a support group for gays and lesbians preparing for their army draft and a group for parents). From Meir Garden the parade will continu to Tchernichovsky St. and into Bugrashov (Bugrachov) St. and its lovely cafes... When Bugrashov meets Ben Yehuda St. the real party begin...The music will get louder and the vibes stronger. The parade will continue till the corner of Ben Yehuda and Ben Gurion and along the Ben Gurion blvd, into the sea, well not really the sea, but Gordon Beach.

Among the parading groups we will find the Israeli BDSM gang as well as the Trans.co.il family, the radical feminists of "Black Laundry" and leading the parade: Dykes on Bikes in black leather...

Gordon beach will host the parade's main happening with live concerts of Ivry Lider, Maya buskila and Keren Peles (with a new song written for the happy occasion). Later on that night parties will take place all over the city and you are all invited...

Make it your business to get here by Friday. The TLV pride celebration is a fantastic excuse to visit Israel for the first time.

Ta'am Ha'Ir: The second largest food festival in the world this week in Tel Aviv. May 26-29, Park HaYarkon: Come and Eat

Isragirl Presents : Taste of the City Food Festival, Photo by nfc.co.il ©

Get ready and hungry...the 13 Ta'am HaIr (Taste of the City in Hebrew) festival is here...100 restaurants, most of them from Tel Aviv, and some from other parts of the country will celebrate this week 60 years of Israeli Taste.

For those unfamiliar with this tasty festival, the rules are simple: over a 100 restaurants participate, which means they pick a few dishes from their menu and they serve it in small portions for 20-25 NIS (about €4). This format allows visitors to taste very expensive dishes from highly posh restaurants without having to take a loan....

Hundreds of thousands of people come to the festival each year from all over the country (Unfortunately for me...I live near by and suffer the traffic jams) - they gather in HaYarkon Park and start eating till they cant eat no more. It's a culinary dream and adventure, and a huge Eat Out celebration of tastes, colors and aromas. And, people, lots of people.

Usually, the top restaurants of the city (i.e. Tel Aviv) have a stall in the festival and although it's not as comfortable as eating in the restaurant, it's an excellent opportunity to taste a lot and not pay so much.

The "Taste of the City" is the second largest food festival in the world, after the Taste of Chicago, and with Israeli impossible love towards food, it will probably become number one in a few years...To make things even more exciting the festival will offer (aside from the restaurants stands): organic food, gourmet dairy products, exotic vegetables and fruits, fresh and original breads, spices and herbs, wide verity of olive oils, smoked fish and meet, patisseries and pastry-chefs, home-made jams and chocolate artists (and they are artists...).

When: Monday, May 26 - Thursday, May 29: From 5.30 pm till 11pm

Where: HaYarkon Park, Tel Aviv

Tip: Don't come too late, good stalls tend to get "raided" and finish their food early. Also, it may get very crowded on the last night of the festival. If you cant stand having too many people around you...this is not the festival for you. If you are young and hormonal - it's THE pick up venue for the week.

Summer is definitely here, the beaches are getting growing attention and a short stroll on Tel Aviv promenade will be just as pleasing to the eye as the video posted above. Yes, sexy Israeli girls (and some boys) are taking out their swimsuits and slowly making their way to the nearest beach they can find.

The Israeli slang term for good-looking-sexy-girl is: Kussit (or Koossit). This is the singular form, for plural, say: Kussi-yot (many Kussit). It comes from the word "Kuss" which means cunt or pussy. But unlike those two words it doesn't have a negative or a dirty meaning. Still, Kuss is slang, the proper word for the female vagina is: Nartik. So, while calling some one "cunt" in English is not so nice...calling someone "Kussit" in Hebrew, is actually flattering. Not so long ago it had a sexist flavor to it, but these days I cant think of any women (even above 50) who will be offended if you said that she was a "Kussit". She might think you are way out of your league, but she wont slap you... So there you have it - The Idiot's guide to Israeli slang - Term: Kussit.

Five Cinemateques across Israel will host (starting May 15) the Eco Cinema Festival of 2008. If you happen to be in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa or Sderot in the south or Rosh Pina in the north, call the local cinematque and check out the list and hours for the festival's screening and outdoor happenings. Unfortunately, the English translation of the festival's web site is not yet accessible, so I'll do my best and list the films participating in this wonderful celebration of Eco Friendly People (who are also movie friendly).

List of movies: The best of "Live Earth" film competition (Short films from USA 2007), "Garbage Country" (Israel 2008), "The Queen of Trees" (USA 2006), "The Struggle for Urban Space" (Spain 2007), "Addicted to Plastic" (Canada 2008), "Earth" (UK 2007), tribute to "Free Range Studios" - Animated Eco Films, "Les Animaux Amoureux" (Animals In Love, France 2008), "Got the Facts on Milk?" (USA 2007), "Waste=Food" (USA 2007), "Crude Impact" (USA 2006), "I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA" (USA 2006), "Garbage Warrior" (UK 2007), "Being Caibou" (Canada 2006").

Some of the screenings will be followed by an audience-director dialog and some of them will include a discussion with environmental activists from Israel.

There will be at least one outdoor screening in HaYarkon park in Tel Aviv - as a part of an alternative "Lag BaOmer" celebration, the movie Les Animaux Amoureux, will be screened on a huge screen at "Rosh Tzippor" section of the park (May 22 @ 8pm). The Tel Aviv festival will also host an Organic Market on Saturday, May 24, 12noon-7pm, out side the Cinemateque. Other special events will take place in Jerusalem, Haifa and Rosh Pinna, so call the local cinemateque and get there...

Next week, Manchester United and Chelsea are going to meet in Moscow for the UEFA Champions League Final. This is an exciting event for most Israelis who follow European football and this year it's even more thrilling for us due to the Israeli aspect of the match - Avram Grant - Chelsea's manager. That doesn't imply that most Israelis are Chelsea fans now, but I'm sure even Man U fans in Israel will be able to find some comfort should the unlikely thing happen and Chelsea will win. As for me, I hope Chelsea will win, if not for its game then just to spite English media who gave Grant a lot of shit this year, some of it justified some of it completely unfounded. Oh and by the way, an anecdote: A few months ago I went with my brother and sister to one of the beaches in Tel Aviv, and guess who we saw sipping his drink on Metzitzim beach? None other than Mr. Abramovich...my brother had to stop me from approaching him...what can I say, its good to have a brother around when you are about to make a fool of your self.

Regarding the commercial, heading to this post - it was produced by the Israeli Tourist Office, as part of a series of "Sexy" commercials promoting Israel. Though I find them sweet and even effective, I think it could have been done better. For example, why are all the guys (straight and gay) on this commercial are so unattractive? Couldn't they have found better looking guys for this? Aren't there enough gorgeous boys around? Especially among the gay community....Well maybe I'm just being a nagger, and maybe this was intended for potential tourists whom we wouldn't like to deter from coming to Israel, hence, let them think Israeli men are hideous and no matter if you are gay or straight - the girls and guys here are hungry for you and there's no need to worry about competition....

Beach football in Israel - Just an excuse for checking out guys and gals. Fuck the world cup!!!

Bat Yam has initiated this special event hoping to start a tradition of biennales which will take place every two years, with local and international architects, planers and artists presenting their vision for a new urban dialog between residents of the city and their open public areas.

The primary objective of the international biennale of landscape urbanism is to initiate extensive public debate regarding urban activities that influence the quality of life in the city. The biennale will deal with the urban experience and activities that have the power to transform the city into a higher quality, optimistic and vital place. Organizers promise that the exhibits placed around the city for the biennale will be left on the streets as long as the local residents will want it there.

The biennale includes 30 outdoor rooms scattered in public domain. All sites are open to the public and their aim is to introduce innovative ways for using urban open spaces. With today's awareness of city residents to the use and importance of open public space (especially in crowded cities), the participating artists and planners are committed to integrating community projects as well as students proposals into their own designs and ideas.

In the biennale you will find fresh ideas dealing with parking issues, altogether different playgrounds, a special public domain dedicated to Ethiopian mourning ceremonies taking place outdoors, living rooms that need no walls, vegetable gardens for local tenants use and lots of new and fun outdoor solutions to urban in-house density...

For more info and a map of the biennale - enter the Biennale English web site.

If in Israel, come to Bat Yam's International Urban Landscape Biennale. Get fresh ideas for open public space use

Some twenty four artists, writers and celebrities joined together for a special street art exhibition taking place at Rabin's square, Tel Aviv, in support of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. If in Israel for business or pleasure, make sure you don't miss this unique event organized by ONeVoice - an NGO active both in Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The name of this exhibition is best translated: "Until smoke comes out the peace pipe" and it calls for Israeli and Palestinian leaders to resume the peace talks and to stay at the negotiation table until peace prevails in the region.

The joint-installation will include 24 chairs, 2 meters high each, designed by famous artists, poets, chefs and other famous Israeli personas. The chairs will be placed around an enormous table symbolizing the peace negotiations table. OneVoice aspires to expose and empower the wide - but sometimes silent -majority of Israelis and Palestinians who support the idea of two countries - Israel and Palestine - living in peace side by side. The design of each chair reflects the personal interpretations of the artists to the tricky process of bringing peace to a region afflicted with mistrust on the one hand and hope on the other.

Where and when: Rabin's Square, Tel Aviv, April 25-28

Isragirl Tip: While visiting the square look up to the roof of Tel Aviv city hall building...You will see a gigantic ballooned Duck, known to Israelis as "HaBarvaz" (the duck) - a famous cartoon character created by cartoonist Dudu Geva who died 3 years ago. The duck was loved by many Tel-Avivians and the city decided to help Geva's children commemorate their father's vision for Tel Aviv by allowing the huge duck to sit on the roof for two weeks...

A few weeks ago I've published a post about the Baha'i world center in Haifa. The beautiful photo of the shrine and gardens generated quite a few comments. It was a popular post and since I find this place to be one of the most special tourist attractions in Israel, I've decided to find a video on the subject and give you more information about this striking religious site.

Haifa is the international headquarters for the gentle Baha'i Faith, which began amidst persecution in Persia in the mid-19th century. Baha'is believe in the unity of all religions and believe that messengers of God like Moses, Jesus and Muhammad have been sent at different times in history with doctrines varying to fit changing social needs, but bringing substantially the same message. The most recent of these heavenly teachers, according to Baha'is, was Baha' Allah (1817-92). He was exiled by the Turkish authorities to Acre (Akko), Israel, wrote his doctrines there, and died a peaceful death in Bahji House just north of Acre. During one of His visits to Haifa in 1890, Baha'u'llah pointed out to his son the spot on Mount Carmel where the remains of the Bab, herald of the Baha'i faith, should be laid to rest in a befitting tomb. The Bab's remains were hidden for years after he died a martyr's death in front of a firing squad. Eventually, his followers secretly carried his remains to the Holy Land.

In the Haifa gardens, the huge domed Shrine of the Bab entombs Baha' Allah's herald. The tomb is a spectacular sight, with ornamental gold work and flowers in almost every nook and cranny. A visual symbol of the Baha'i emphasis on worldwide religious unity, the shrine is a blend of western and eastern styles. The granite columns recall classic Roman architecture, the Corinthian capitals are reminiscent of ancient Greece, and the arches add the flavor of the Orient. The Baha'i gardens are now a geometric cascade of hanging gardens and terraces down to Ben Gurion Boulevard -a gift of visual pleasure to the city that gave the Baha'i religion its home and headquarters.
A few days ago, my 8.5 years old niece recruited me for a mission: she had organized with her best friend a beach party on HaBonim (Masons) beach for her class, and I was chosen, by her, to be one of three "responsible" adults who will stay on the beach with her friends - nineteen 3rd graders...I had to agree. I still don't have children of my own and one day I will need this brat to babysit for me, so I got to agree to everything she asks for...This is how I found myself spending a night on one of Israel's most beautiful beaches. HaBonim beach is located some 20 min. drive south of Haifa and if you are looking for a nice beach to camp on - this one should defiantly be on your list along with its neighboring beach - Dor. These two beaches are protected as they are declared a reservation or a beach national park or something of the sort. They are serene and well maintained and camping on them is allowed for some reason, but people who don't live in the area have to pay a modest entrance fee (25 NIS per car).

During summer HaBonim beach is rather busy and one cannot really appreciate the small bay shape of it, but it a'int summer yet, and the beach was almost completely deserted and to my astonishment the 3rd graders managed to keep themselves busy most of the evening. I had a great time and didn't even have to be that responsible. Sure, kids fight a little, but watching them play spin the bottle was so much fun, it almost made me change my mind about today's kids. At 3am when kids and adults alike were asleep I sneaked out of the tent and set on the beach alone. I lit my irresponsible cigarette, and watched the half moon casting its bright yellow light on the Mediterranean.

In the morning the children had breakfast and went in the water for a swim - they looked so happy and pleased with life and nature that it made me wanna ask - when can we do this again? It was a magnificent night and a wonderful adventure and I got to see two 3rd graders having their first kiss...what else could I ask for?

Tip: If you like skydiving - HaBonim beach is the place for you. There is a skydiving school there and from personal experience I can tell you that its good and safe. I skydived there last June and it was FANTASTIC!!! The landscape is just breathtaking! More info HaBonim Paradive Skydiving.

Spend a night on a beach, its very recommended for your mind and soul. Dont forget to send me the Photos...

This Saturday, Jews all around the world will be celebrating Passover. This is probably THE family holiday for Jews, which means a lot (!!!) of food, a lot of aunts and uncles asking "Did you gain weight? When are you going to get married? What about children? Your mom really wants some grandchildren...Isn't it about time?" I guess holidays are the same everywhere. Personally, I don't mind the family harassments too much, I have the loudest mouth anyways and I cook the main dish for the feast (Lamb of course) - so they all have to be nice! This year we shell be celebrating Passover on Kibbutz Degania Bet - That's where I'm from originally - and lucky me, its hot enough to swim in the Sea of Galilee, to dip in the Jordan River (15 min walk from my mom's house) and enjoy the lovely fields of the Jordan Valley.

If you are travelling in Israel these days, you should know that kids are out on their Passover vacation, so most tourist attractions are going to be busy and a lot of the National Parks will be crowded as well. Weather wise this is a fantastic time to be touring Israel, it's not too hot and the scent of spring is everywhere.

For those who like outdoor parties, Passover is an important date as well, since this is when the outdoor parties season officially starts, I'll be updating you on that in the posts to come. In the mean time - Don't eat too many Matza balls during Passover - you will fart dust (and it wont be star dust...) and have a very happy Passover with your families and friends, rejoice in your freedom and wish it upon others.

Dont eat too much on your Passover feast - Happy Holiday to Every one

Live Israeli Rock, Hip Hop, World Music and lots of Love is waiting for you all at this year’s

Live Israeli Rock, Hip Hop, World Music and lots of Love is waiting for you all at this year's AHAVA (Love in Hebrew) Festival, held around the Dead Sea. If you are in Israel for Passover, there is plenty to do...and going to the Dead Sea is a MUST anyways...so why not plane your trip to the lowest point in the world, to the dates of April 20-25 and enjoy a wonderful celebration of Music, Love and Nature. This year's theme is "Saving the Dead Sea and the habitat of the Dead Sea area". Aside from the live music concerts, visitors will be able to enjoy special guided tours along the Dead Sea shoreline and fun for the whole family bicycle tours, horse riding, ATV trips and more. While you are there, don't forget to do some floating on the salty water, it's very healthy for your mind and body and rejuvenating - Oh yes it is! Other much recommended day trips are: Masada and the Qumran caves - they are close by and you don't have to like archeology to be exhilarated by those two!!!
