Wiley (a.k.a Eskiboy), is a British grime mc and active producer from Bow, East London. In the scene is one of the best. For those who don't know, grime is a sub-genre of urban music which first emerged in London, England in the early 2000's, primarily a development of UK garage, dancehall, and hip hop. Grime is sometimes associated with dubstep, a similar but largely instrumental genre which also evolved from the early 2000's UK garage scene.

i have a propensity to subconsciously attach a new song to my state of mind every 2-3 months based on the challenges or opportunities impacting me most. i didn't realize that i do this until recently, and now it is interesting to string together the pattern and collection of music-talisman. my latest anthem is Yael Naim's New Soul:

1. Get a copy of the exam, run out screaming “Andre, Andre, I’ve got the secret document

1. Get a copy of the exam, run out screaming "Andre, Andre, I've got the secret documents!!"

2. Talk the entire way through the exam. Read questions aloud, debate your answers with yourself out loud. If asked to stop, yell out, "I'm SOOO sure that you can hear me thinking." Then start talking about what a jerk the instructor is.

3. Bring a Game Boy. Play with the volume at max level.

4. On the answer sheet find a new, interesting way to refuse to answer every question. For example: I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it conflicts with my religious beliefs. Be creative.

5. Run into the exam room looking about frantically. Breathe a sigh of relief. Go to the instructor, say "They've found me, I have to leave the country" and run off.

6. 15 min. into the exam, stand up, rip up all the papers into very small pieces, throw them into the air and yell out "Merry Christmas." If you're really daring, ask for another copy of the exam. Say you lost the first one. Repeat this process every 15 min.

7. Come into the exam wearing slippers, a bathrobe, a towel on your head, and nothing else.

8. Come down with a BAD case of Tourette's Syndrome during the exam. Be as vulgar as possible.

9. Bring things to throw at the instructor when s/he's not looking. Blame it on the person nearest to you.

10. As soon as the instructor hands you the exam, eat it.

11. Every 5 min. stand up, collect all your things, move to another seat, continue with the exam.

12. Turn in the exam approx. 30 min. into it. As you walk out, start commenting on how easy it was.

13. Get the exam. 20 min into it, throw your papers down violently, scream out "Fuck this!" and walk out triumphantly.

14. Arrange a protest before the exam starts (ie. Threaten the instructor that whether or not everyone's done, they are all leaving after one hour to go drink.)

15. Show up completely drunk (completely drunk means at some point during the exam, you should start crying for mommy).

16. Comment on how sexy the instructor is looking that day.

17. Come to the exam wearing a black cloak. After about 30 min, put on a white mask and start yelling "I'm here, the phantom of the opera" until they drag you away.

18. If the exam is math/sciences related, make up the longest proofs you could possible think of. Get pi and imaginary numbers into most equations. If it is a written exam, relate everything to your own life story.

19. Try to get people in the room to do a wave.

20. Bring some large, cumbersome, ugly idol. Put it right next to you. Pray to it often. Consider a small sacrifice.

21. During the exam, take apart everything around you. Desks, chairs, anything you can reach.

22. Puke into your exam booklet. Hand it in. Leave.

23. Take 6 packages of rice cakes to the exam. Stuff at least 2 rice cakes into your mouth at once. Chew, then cough. Repeat if necessary.

24. Masturbate.

25. Walk in, get the exam, sit down. About 5 min into it, loudly say to the instructor, "I don't understand ANY of this. I've been to every lecture all semester long! What's the deal? And who the hell are you? Where's the regular guy?"

26. Do the entire exam in another language. If you don't know one, make one up!

27. Bring a black marker. Return the exam with all questions and answers completely blacked out.

28. Every now and then, clap twice rapidly. If the instructor asks why, tell him/her in a very derogatory tone, "the light bulb that goes on above my head when I get an idea is hooked up to a clapper. DUH!"

29. From the moment the exam begins, hum the theme to Jeopardy. Ignore the instructor's requests for you to stop. When they finally get you to leave one way or another, begin whistling the theme to the Bridge on the River Kwai.

30. After you get the exam, call the instructor over, point to any question, ask for the answer. Try to work it out of him/her.

31. In the middle of the test, have a friend rush into the classroom, tag your hand, and resume taking your test for you. When the teacher asks what's going on, calmly explain the rules of Tag Team Testing to him/her.

32. Bring cheat sheets FOR ANOTHER CLASS (make sure this is obvious... like history notes for a calculus exam... otherwise you're not just failing, you're getting kicked out too) and staple them to the exam, with the comment "Please use the attached notes for references as you see fit."

33. Stand up after about 15 minutes, and say loudly, "Okay, let's double-check our answers! Number one, A. Number two, C. Number three, E...."

34. Fake an orgasm. When interrupted, apologize, and explain that question #__ moved you, deeply.

35. Wear a superman outfit under your normal clothes. 30 minutes into the exam, jump up and answer your phone, shouting "What? I'm on my way!!". rip off your outer clothes and run out of the room. strike a pose first for added effect.

36. Tailgate outside the classroom before the exam.

37. If your answers are on a scantron sheet, fill it out in pen.

38. Bring a giant cockroach into the room and release it on a girl nearby.

Thanks, nacho ;P

The UK government has launched a competition to find innovative ways of using the masses of data it collects. It is hoping to find new uses for public information in the areas of criminal justice, health and education.

The Power of Information Taskforce - headed by cabinet office minister Tom Watson - is offering a £20,000 prize fund for the best ideas. To help with the task, the government is opening up gigabytes of information from a variety of sources.

Good sense

This includes mapping information from the Ordnance Survey, medical information from the NHS , neighbourhood statistics from the Office for National Statistics and a carbon calculator from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

None of the data will be personal information, the government is keen to stress.

To find out where nightlife hotspots are all you need is Citysense. It's a new GPS-enabled cellphone application which has a real time map of popular places. Those red blobs in the picture, is the representation of a person, the more red blobs the merrier!

This application is also free for you to download! Theres only one maybe two problems. First it is only available for Blackberry (iPhone support is coming soon) and the map is only of San Francisco.

Either way this shows that how we are monitored by the government and potential marketers is getting a lot easier and creepier. It also means that we get more stuff that we 'need' to make life easier.

Avanoo was launched in May 2008, and it makes doing good is as easy as clicking your mouse. They enable web users to promote causes by putting badges on their websites, online profiles, and even your emails; and when the badge is 'clicked' a donation is made by a sponsor.

You can participate by either clicking a Avanoo badge that already supports a cause or you could place a badge on any of your online pages. You can support a range of causes and I have placed a badge for "Save the Children", for a full list click here. This is a rather new website but you can already see the impact it's making by looking at the results.

It'll take like less than 5min to put in a badge on your website, online profile or email so take the time to visit Avanoo. The more badges you have the less guilty you have to feel when you pretend you don't have cash when walking past someon asking for donations.

No, I will not stop blogging about Lego. If you hate Lego, I am a lesser man for having you read these words from my heart.

Lego For Adults is a new book that has just hit the shelves; probably not NZ though, but Forbidden Lego has been out for a while; so it might even be in your local library. You must watch the vid to witness the sheer brilliance of these creations of block destruction.

The following clip is an example from Lego For Adults, by Martin Hüdepohl, a 27 year old German designer. This is very impressive but he has clearly been inspired by Forbidden Lego, Build the Models Your Parents Warned You Against. Ulrik Pilegaard (once a senior designer for Lego) and Mike Dooley (a former director of development at Lego) released their book in December of 2007 (cited in the Daily Telegraph).

Either way both books must be very interesting and my birthday is coming up on July 16.

At work, we've been talking a lot about the information scans we all do on our own...who we refer to, which sites are the best, the most useful feeds, etc. So, now, out of curiosity and from inspiration gained from Chris Brogan's recent post: "Where I Learn More," I'm asking: Where do you go to learn?

Brogan's article is great, as in it, he talks about the role of influence and asks us to reflect on what influences what we learn, think, behave and believe....so close to a social marketing (the real social marketing) question my buttons were popping with techy-excitement.

Here is my average, daily, social media ritual.

Please share me yours, and perhaps we can both expand our horizons a little. =)

Check my work e-mail account. Its true fellow co-workers.

Check my regular Gmail account.
Check my blog email account. I get various e-newsletter and feeds here that help me stay up to date on the social media, nonprofit, and social marketing arena. Really, it's a community working together and sharing. It. is. awesome.

If it's a Monday, I check out the Carnival for Non-Profit Consultants.

Check in on Linkedin to see if anyone new I know has joined or connected. The homepage on Linkedin is becoming increasingly fun.

Surf around the NonProfit Blog Exchange if Emily has posted some great new posts.

Then, it's on to the social bookmarks. I check my delicious, both my networks and my subscriptions. Oftentimes, those I am connected to are in a similar field or have similar interests, so thank you everyone on del.icio.us.

Then, I spend a little time on Digg, and may occasionally check in on StumbleUpon. I'm really liking Mixx more and more too, though, there doesn't seem to be as many people on it.

I check up on the scoop of my work's internal wiki.

Check meetup.com for upcoming events and opportunities to take online connecting --> offline.

More scooping that I probably, and I apologize, didn't list. Though, if I remember more, I will place in the comments. There's always MORE to learn and MORE resources to discover. =)

Important note to make: This is just the listening phase.

About the listening phase. I might do some or all of this ritual depending on the day and the time. The point is though, that my ritual is...I am always listening. Always checking in. Always asking questions. Always working to seek answers.

The FUN part, is taking it all in, reflecting, and creatively organizing the content and information in your head to implement innovative, effective communications. And, when I really want to *get wild,* I reflect further, beyond the field of communications, social media or marketing...but more to what Chris mentions, about influence. About change. About society. About trends. About what it all means.

MacGregor Golf is a 100 year old golf company, one with a new CEO. Michael J. Setola shares with us his vision and strategy for keeping the innovative brand strong.

NATALIA: Please give folks a bit of insight as to what your role entails.
Michael: As CEO of MacGregor, my primary role is to manage the investments and direction of the company. As it relates to product, inventory is our largest investment, so I keep a keen eye on product and product development.

NATALIA: How did you first become interested in fashion?
Michael: Funny story, but my first job was with Hanes Underwear. I was selling boxers and white briefs. Suddenly for the first time, colored underwear came on the scene and I saw the effect of fashion on something as simple as underwear. I was hooked on the excitement of newness and the effect great product has on business.

NATALIA: How would you define good innovation?
Michael: Good innovation is the combo of design, merchandising and sell through to the consumer. It needs to be relevant as truly new, but have meaning to the consumer.

NATALIA: Is innovation important to you? MacGregor?
Michael: At both the Greg Norman collection and in our MacGregor Golf Club companies, innovation is what separates us from the field.

NATALIA: How is innovation realized in your business?
Michael: Design, product development, technical services and production all must work together to bring innovation to the market in sync.

NATALIA: Any challenges or successes you have had bringing innovative design to market?
Michael: There are always challenges in getting all these components firing at the same time. Often, one area is ahead or behind in the ability to deliver innovation, so a project may be delayed.

NATALIA: What are some of the current innovation projects you are working on?
Michael: In apparel, climate controlled fabrics are becoming more important for the active golfer. Body temperature regulating developments are in our market and improvements are in the works. In golf clubs, we have a new metal that we are introducing to the clubface for game improvement.

NATALIA: Do you feel technology in fashion is just a trend?
Michael: Everything is a trend. It’s just about how long it stays with us. Technology will be with us for a long time, the consumer likes it.

NATALIA: In a few words please share with us your vision for the future.
Michael: Companies that innovate and develop consumer centric products will excel even more in the future. The combination of economic challenges and modern expectations will raise the bar for products to succeed.

There’s something refreshing about a retailer who doesn’t just let it all

There’s something refreshing about a retailer who doesn’t just let it all
hang out for the world to see. The windows of this Commes des Garcons store are like a great first date outfit, you can see enough to know you want to see more but
not enough to satiate the appetite.

It’s almost as if they’re teasing you with a little peek but you have to
go inside to see the full story. You see, sometimes its better to leave a little to the imagination. A glimpse of skin is always sexier than getting an eyeful of the whole booty.

What if we took this idea someplace else . . Why not create a stylish fruit & veg store where you don’t actually show the fruit & veg? When people enter the store they are met with boxes upon old fashioned boxes containing fresh produce. People can read where the products come from, there’s a description of how delicious they are & the price point indicates they’re good quality. But you can’t see what you’re actually purchasing.

The philosophy of the store would be :: we’ve selected the best produce available for you, if you think that you can pick better fruit & veg out of some dumpster in a supermarket then you’re in the wrong store friend.

Think about how can you flirt with your customers? How can you play on their imagination & curiosity to drive demand? You need to make customers want you. Throwing yourself on someone is not only embarrassing, but lessens your chances of scoring.

Remember Sony's Walkman brand? It used to be synonymous with portable music players until Apple's iPod wiped the floor with it, yet it's Sony that's come out on top of a recent survey on brand innovation.

Apple had to settle for second in the list after the Incite survey asked 500 people between the ages of 18 and 65 to name the brands they consider to be the most innovative.

Nintendo, renowned for innovation among the gaming community, ironically placed the lowest out of the three major console makers, slotting in at seventh below Microsoft at third. It seems that, despite selling a billion Wii consoles a day, Nintendo has yet to defeat Sony's brand power among the masses.

According to the concluding report (via Brand Republic), 74 percent of people like brands that are 'constantly moving forward', but 60 percent opposed the creation of something new for the sake of it.

The top 20 brands the survey considered to be innovative are:

Bionomics and Merck Serono to Collaborate to Discover and Develop Novel, Oral Treatment for MS

Â

Bionomics and Merck Serono to Collaborate to Discover and Develop Novel, Oral Treatment for MS

Â

- Collaboration Based on Novel Compounds That Allow Selective Inhibition of The Immune Cells Which Cause Nerve Cell Damage in Patients With MS

Â

Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, announced today that a Development and Licensing Agreement with Bionomics (ASX: BNO) was signed, under which Merck Serono would develop new treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS) and other autoimmune conditions based on compounds from Bionomics Kv1.3 program.

Â

Under the agreement, Bionomics will receive an upfront payment of US$ 2 million and committed research funding. Merck Serono will fund all development activities, including clinical development. Merck Serono intends to select compounds from Bionomics pool of compounds, and for each compound selected Bionomics may receive milestone payments of up to US$ 47 million, based on successful development and commercialization. In addition, Bionomics will be eligible to receive undisclosed royalties on the net sales of licensed products.

Â

Dr. Bernhard Kirschbaum, Executive Vice President Research at Merck Serono, said "This partnership with Bionomics reflects our long-term commitment to patients with MS as Kv1.3 inhibition represents an innovative approach for the discovery of oral compounds in the field of MS. This R&D collaboration brings together Bionomics' expertise in Kv1.3 biology and Merck Serono's expertise in MS pharmacology in a combination that could speed up progress in the identification of novel drug candidates for the treatment of MS."

Â

"As a world leader and pioneer in treatments for multiple sclerosis, Merck Serono is the ideal partner for Bionomics in this Kv1.3 program," commented Dr. Deborah Rathjen, CEO and Managing Director of Bionomics. "The agreement with Merck Serono is an important milestone for our Company. It validates Bionomics' discovery approach, which has brought the program to this stage. We look forward to working with Merck Serono in the next stage to bring innovative treatment options for patients with MS to the clinic."

Â

The compounds discovered by Bionomics, around which the collaboration will focus, target the potassium ion channel Kv1.3. Kv1.3 is a key modulator of the immune system and it is a target found on human immune cells which are associated with nerve cell damage in patients with MS. Inhibitors of Kv1.3 have been shown to inhibit the proliferation of these immune cells, suggesting that they have application in the treatment of MS and potentially other autoimmune conditions, including arthritis.

Â

About multiple sclerosis

Â

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory condition of the nervous system and is the most common, non-traumatic, neurological disease in young adults. The World Health Organization estimates that up to 2.5 million people MS worldwide have MS. While symptoms can vary, the most common symptoms of MS include blurred vision, numbness or tingling in the limbs and problems with strength and coordination. The relapsing forms of MS are the most common.

So, how does one save power equivalent to 3,000 AAA batteries, or enough power to run a television

So, how does one save power equivalent to 3,000 AAA batteries, or enough power to run a television for 3 weeks, or even enough electricity to power a lap top computer for an entire month, with one purchase? If this thought has crossed your mind before (or even if it hasn't) you will get a right kick out of this company : Green Toys.

Green Toys uses high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around. And for the everyday consumer, that is simply yesterday's milk jug. And not only that, Green Toys is locally located. Now before one starts a tirade about the benefits of open trade, consider the distance that each shipment has to travel in order to make it to the shelves. The amount of green house gases produced is astronomical! If one can help cut back on green house gases in at least one purchase, you're doing your part to help out!

All Green Toys are shipped strictly within the US, (however i am sure internationally they have their own versions of green toys as well). This cuts down on the amount of fuels burned in transportation, not to mention guarantees that your toys won't be sea sick when they get to you! *tongue in cheek*

And for the ever safety conscious parent (as you should be) Green Toys has seen to it that every toy passes a plethora of tests, including :

Consumer Products Safety Standard Specification, ASTM F963

California Prop. 65 restrictions on lead & cadmium

FDA regulations for food contact

California regulations prohibiting phthalates in toys

Voluntary testing for no BPA (Bisphenol-A)
