A couple of quick reminders. First, don't forget about our show on Wednesday July 30^th at The Knockout in San Francisco featuring The Aimless Never Miss, The Sleepover Disaster and Pillows. Besides a night of amazing and sprawling guitar rock, this will be the release party for Pillows new virtual EP so come out and support this East Bay duo! 

It's never too early to mark you calendars. On August 29^th the Lower Class Revolt will be hosting L.A.'s The Happy Hollows, San Francisco's Leopold and his Fiction and the East Bay's The ThousandNames. Please take the time to check each band out on their Myspace pages.

Way down the road yet right around the corner... the Lower Class Revolt will be hosting our first event at The Café Du Nord in San Francisco on September 10^th. We're bringing down All Smiles (featuring Jim Fairchild from Grandaddy fame) from Portland to headline the CD RELEASE PARTY for Aimless Never Miss. Opening the show will be San Francisco's Harbours!

The national release date for The Aimless Never Miss' self titled full length debut is September 23^rd, 2008. But we're going to release it early on the Devil in the Woods Records and Lower Class Revolt websites as well as at the release show. Save some dough and order direct from us and be the first on your block to own this new release.

In other news, T-shirt and skateboard designer Shannon Gonzalez has finished the first set of Lower Class Revolt skate decks and LCR t-shirts. We'll be dropping those on the website soon.  The quality is amazing and we'll be selling them for near nothing! Chalk one up for the working class!

Edição #1: Bombay Bicycle Club

Todos nós sabemos que o Reino Unido praticamente ‘fabrica’ bandas, principalmente Indie’s. e também sabemos que a maioria é ruim, ou igual às outras, porém sempre há suas exceções.

A Bombay Bicycle Club, criada por jovens de Londres e que teve seu nome inspirado em um restaurante indiano de sua região, é uma clara exceção; são muito mais amadurecidos musicalmente que a maioria das bandas do mesmo gênero.

Eles têm um dom para fazer melodias maravilhosas, letras boas e o vocalista de nos envolver com sua bela voz, além de bela é original.

Seu histórico é ótimo, começaram no campeonato de banda do V Festival, o Road To V, e surpreenderam a todos vencendo a competição, sendo assim gravando uma demo de 7 musicas de graça e abriram o V Festival de 2006.

Além disso, em 2007 começou tudo; shows em grandes casas inglesas como Barfly, Carling Academy; regiões famosas de Londres como Camden os recebendo até com shows próprios; saíram recentemente no radar da NME, após algumas aparições e ou reviews na revista; se apresentaram no Carling Weekend do ano passado...

Com 2 EP’s lançados, The Boy I Used To Be e How Are We, e um Single lançado recentemente, Evening/Morning, eles nunca desapontam em faixa alguma, o que eu admiro e posso denominar como brilhante!

De canções que são boas a faixas com potencial para serem ‘Indie Anthems’, como The Hill, How Are You, Maybe More, What If, Magnets e Evening \ Morning. Isto é Bombay Bicycle Club, uma futura grande banda Indie., ou melhor, The Next Big Thing!

Who the hell never wanted to have a band? We do all the time but we don't have the guts... we're not born for that, that's why we have the blog so we can be around in the new music scene.

So we received the release and some songs from The Sapiens guys. And we wandered about the energy and love you need to spent to make it happen. Imagine yourself touring to show your work and expect the return in this modern-fast world. Fun, but not easy.

The Sapiens are a new good indie rock kinda dancing band from Chicago. You can recognize good influences also. Good rock, we dig it!

若若男女、終わって、ひと息ついた今日この頃、です。

あっという間すぎて、さびしいっす。今回も、いっぱい笑った！
見に来てくれたお客さんも、きっと楽しかったはずです。ありがとう。

私、今回、気づいたことがあります。それは、チャットとシュノーケルとベボベの10人と各バンドのスタッフの皆さんで、リハーサルして、移動して、お客さんがいてライブして、セッションして、打ち上げして、これ全部で、楽しいんやなということです。

ただ単に、会って話すのも楽しいけれど、たくさんの人が、若若男女をよいツアーにしようとして、それに向かって全員が一緒になった中に、得体の知れない楽しさが、あるんです。当たり前のことなのに、こうゆう文章を書く気持ちにさせるパワーも、若若男女は持ってます。

来年もやりたいです。

It`s only been `till today that I`ve managed to get a little break after the end of the nnn08.

Time what by so quick, so sad. We had many laughs this time too !(lol)
All those who came surely had a good time too. Thank`s.

I noticedsomething this time. That was, with the 10 of us from Cahtmonchy, Shnorkel, BaseBall Bear, the staff from each respective band and rehearsing, moving together then having the audience there, performing, and doing the opening; I relasied how fun that all was.

Simply meeting and talking with them is enjoyable ofcourse but, having so many people dedicated to making the nnn08 a succesful tour, then having everyone working as one to achieve that goal; within that there`s an unusual enjoyment to be had. The NyakuNyakuNannyo even has the power to put me in the mood to write sentences like these on something that is really obvious.

I intend to do it again next year too.

ここはどこ? [高橋久美子]

若若も終わり、夏本番です。みなさんお元気ですか?

今日は最近、ますます増えたことについて話します。
なんだと思う?体重じゃないよ。

人に道を聞かれる回数です。

東京に出てきて二年半ですが、なぜ人は方向音痴の私に道を聞くのか?
しかも、ツアー中の新潟や熊本でも…
「すみません、私も旅行にきてまして…」
ってなります。

で、この間、若若で大阪に行ってたとき、一人で街をブラブラしてたらまた聞かれた。しかも、韓国から旅行に来てるらしき二人の女の子。
地図を差し出して、片言の日本語で
「あの、ここに行きたいです」
と…
「オッケ！ちょっと見せて。…うーん。これがビックカメラでしょ…てことは…うーん。」

私は本当に方向音痴だ。
あかん。

「ちょっと待ってて、他の人に聞いてみよう」
ということで、横断歩道で信号待ちしてる女性に声をかけた。

「すみません、ここに行きたいんですが、この道で会ってますかね」

???

なんと、道を聞いた女性も、韓国の方だったらし〜！
まじかよ！

で、あとは、三人でここの道があーだこーだと、私のことなんて忘れて楽しそうに話してました。
よかったよかった。

Where is this?

NyakuNyaku is over, summer takes center stage.Are you all doing fine?

Today I`m gonna talk about some thing that has recently increased. What do you think it is? No, it`s not my weight.

It`s the number of times I get asked by people for directions.

Even though It`s been 2.5 years since coming to Tokyo, why do people ask a navigationally-inept me for street directions, even when we we`re on tour in Niigata and Kumamoto. The conversation always ends up as "Sorry but I`m on tour too".

Incidently, when we went to Osaka for NyakuNyaku, I was wandering the city when yet again I was asked. Further more, they were two girls seemingly from Korea on a tour. Pulling out a map, in broken-Japanese they asked "Umm, I would like to ge to this place", to which I replied "Ok! Let me see...Hrmm, so this is Bic Camera right...which means...Hmm".
I really am poor with directions.
Not good.

"Hold on a moment, let`s ask someone else" I said as I went over to ask some woman waiting at the crossing.
"Excuse me, I`d like to go here but are these directions ok?"
???
The lady whom I asked was also Korean~!
You serious!

Then the three of them began discussing how this street you go like this and thiso one like that, forgetting about me and looking like they were having a good time.
Good good.

Please show me your palm or,
please allow me to cut your hair or,
please allow me to dye your black hair or,
please answer this survey or,
is this the Shinagawa route or,
could you please take a picture for us...
If you walk around Shibuya, these things are 100% garunteed alright.

I must really look like I`m walking idlely.

Bene prieš dvejus metus, kuomet nusprendžiau pradėti rinkti nevogtos muzikos kolekciją, iš pradžių orientavausi vien į lietuvių atlikėjų kūrybą. Viskas prasidėjo nuo Anties ir Foje, bet greitai perėjau prie mažiau skambių vardų, vienas kurių buvo Brainers.

Sąvokos BritPop ir Indie Rock tuo metu taip pat buvo visiškai naujos, tad vos sužinojus, kad Lietuvoje kažkas irgi groja šių stilių muziką, puoliau jais domėtis. Taip Winamp bibliotekoje atsirado Gravel ir Axis, taip ten savo mažą vietą atrado ir Brainers su Big Brother EP. Nors jų pilnavertis albumas Disco Balls tuo metu jau buvo išleistas, prireikė daugiau nei metų, kol galiausiai jis atsirado mano lentynoje. Pamenu pirmąją pažintį su albumu: aš, Oasis The Libertines ir panašių aukščiausio lygio kompanijų jau patikrintas klausytojas, bandau įsisavint Brainers muziką ir jaučiu, kad tai ką girdžiu man visiškai nepatinka. Skambesys atrodė neoriginalus, vokalas - neįdomus ir su rimtomis tarimo problemomis, dainų tekstai paviršutiniški.

O tada atėjo eilė devintajai dainai: Casey. Buvau ją girdėjęs myspace erdvėje, ir jau tada laikiau šį kūrinį ypač stipriu. Dabar pagaliau turėjau jo įrašą, kurį tą vakarą įsijungiau dar bene tris kartus. Pasirodo, kai Brainers pradeda groti nors kiek sunkiau, jie gali skambėti išties puikiai.

Nepaisant to, visas Disco Balls vis dar atrodė nykiai. Klausiau jo dar ir dar kartą ir kiekvienąkart galvodavau, kad lietuviškas rokas tikrai yra gilioj duobėj. Juk Disco Balls 2006-aisiais buvo išrinktas geriausiu ore.lt albumu! D. Britanijoje tokia muzika turbūt būtų numesta į šalį vos išgirdus laužytą vokalisto akcentą.

Ir bum, vieną rytą ausys turbūt galutinai priprato prie Brainers skambesio ir pradėjo juo mėgautis. Supratau, kad būtent ankstyvas rytas, kuomet reikia kuo greičiau pražvalėti, yra tinkamiausias laikas klausytis Disco Balls. Energijos užtaisą savyje jis turi pakankamą kaip ir vietomis išlendančią rokenrolo dvasią.

Galiausiai dabar, po daugiau nei pusės metų, kuomet šis albumas yra mano kolekcijoje pasidariau jam dar atlaidesnis. C'mon, Promised Land ir Disco Balls - pirmosios trys dainos, visada susiklauso smagiai. Unkind pamėgti taip ir nepavyko, Superman yra graži, bet per daug saldi, Reach the Sun ir Clubbin' tiesiogine to žodžio prasme vis dar tebeverčia šokti, Something New leidžia nusiraminti. Yra šimtai geresnių baladžių, bet turbūt dar daugiau blogesnių. Pliusas Something New už tai. Galiausiai - jau išgirta Casey ir dažnai taip ir nebaigiamos perklausyti Sunday Morning Comes ir 1962. Štai toks yra Disco Balls, pirmasis ir vienintelis Brainers albumas. Vargu ar kada nors jis turės vyresnį brolį, kad ir kaip to norėtųsi. Tokia jau toji Lietuvos muzikos situacija - čia iš muzikos, ypač alternatyvios, kūrimo nepragyvensi.

Būtent todėl nesinori peikti Disco Balls, kad ir kaip niežėtų nagai tai padaryti. Lietuvoje praktiškai nėra BritPop muzikos kultūros, tad tokias grupes kaip Brainers reikia vertinti vien už idėją, beje, neblogai įgyvendinamą. Juk kas liko be jų? Minėtieji Gravel ir Axis? Pirmųjų jau oficialiai nebėra, antrieji leidžia dienas kažkur Islandijoj. Liūdniausia, kad ir apie pačių Brainers koncertus nieko negirdėti. O juk norėtųsi pašokti pagal gyvai skambančias Reach the Sun ar Promised Land. Dabar reikia tenkintis video įrašais, kuriuos rasti vėlgi yra problematiška. Štai toki tie sunkiai pasiekiami Brainers. Gerai, kad Bomboj vis dar galima rasti Disco Balls kopijų. Siūlyčiau šį albumą visiems, kurie mano, kad ir Lietuvoje yra geros roko muzikos. Taip būtų nors kiek pateisinta ši, daug kam utopiška, jų mintis.

Kaip tautiečių įrašui - 9 balai iš 10. Vertinant pasaulio mąstu - 6 iš 10. Ir tai tik po ilgo pažindinimosi su Brainers muzika, kuri toli gražu nėra kažkokia reikalaujanti susikaupimo ar gilaus mąstymo.

Taip kad, vertinimai prieštaringi. Taip ir nežinau, ar geras šis albumas ar ne, ar galėčiau jį be jokio nerimo rekomenduoti draugams ir pan. Bent jau pats nesigailiu jo įsigijimu ir negalvoju, kad tuos 20 Lt galėjau išleisti penkiems alaus buteliams.

Beje, žiūrint šį vaizdo įrašą Brainers atrodo kaip gera JAV college rock grupė. Būtent dėl to ir noriu į jų koncertą:

海の日のおととい、蓮沼2008に行きました。そしてようやくはじめてメレンゲを観ることができました。ライブはちょっと弱いなと感じましたが、やっぱり曲がいい。歌も音楽も心をゆさぶる。
そしてそしてそして。アンコールでなんとカッシーニをやりました。ぼくらにとってなつかしい曲とMCで言っていたので、きっとなかなかやることはないんだとおもいます。そんな曲をはじめて観るライブで。この歌はメレンゲの中でもとくにすきで。エモーショナルな曲もだし、歌詞が自分に刺さる。聴けてよかった。

昨日はまたまたまたDiefenbachの1stと、あとBadly Drawn BoyのOnce Around The Blockを買いました。これに入ってるThe Shining (The Avalanches Good Word For The Weekend Remix)がとてもとてもすきなんです。muxtapeに入れているので、もしよかったらどうぞう。もう1曲入ってるCapitol Kのリミックスははじめて聴いたけど、ふしぎサウンドでこれもなかなかすてきなあ。BDBは頻繁に聴くアーティストではないのだけど、自分にとって大事なアーティストのひとりです。

この世からいなくなるときはBDBのEpitaphを聴きながらがいいなと、ずっと前からおもっています。

90s songstress, Juliana Hatfield, bravely came out to the press and claimed that her bouts with depression were covered up by record company PR. For instance, when she canceled plans for a European tour in the mid-90s, the spin was that she was simply suffering from exhaustion. In reality, Hatfield claims that her depression was severe:

"... so unbearable that I was going to jump out of a window to get away from it . . . I needed to check myself into some kind of psychiatric-treatment facility."

She goes on to say, in the NY Post:

"In the eyes of the music business and media machine, it's better, saner, for a girl to work, work, work and promote, promote, promote until she breaks down or blows out and is hauled away on a stretcher than for her to walk away on purpose when she still has some power to decide for herself what is right.
