So maybe I'm not as crazed a fan as I think I am.  Haha, who am I kidding? I'm not really a crazed fan.  I just love their music (the tunes, the sounds, the voices) so much, and have great respect for Jason Wade's songwriting skills.  It all boils down to practicality. Nothing beats hearing them in the flesh (and wishfully thinking that one gets to miraculously meet them in the process), but the odds are against me this time.

And so I sit here listening to their albums on my Winamp, all the while trying to motivate myself to read McCormick. Oh, the nosebleed.

But that's another matter altogether.

10. Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) - Deftones are another of my favorite bands from high school. Carpenter has some pretty badass riffs. [favorite work - My Own Summer]

9.  Mikko "Linde" Lindström (HIM) - He's an underrated guitarist in this Finnish band. All the attention goes to Ville, but this dude can play. [favorite work - Wings of a Butterfly]

8. John Fruchiante (Red Hot Chili Peppers, solo) - Everyone's favorite former junkie guitarist. Now that he's done with heroin, he's back with the 'peppers. You know you're good, if you skip classes at the Guitar Institute in Hollywood and the reps still drop your name as an alumni. [favorite work - Blood Sugar Sex Magik]

7.  Adam Jones (Tool) - The main artistic-creative force in Tool. Maynord seems like the wacko, but Jones is the one that thought up the imagery. Oh yeah, his guitar playing rules. [favorite work - Parabola]

6. Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit, Black Light Burns) - Hate Fred Durst all you want. Wes Borland kicks ass. Limp Bizkit's sound seriously lacked when he wasn't on their "Results May Vary". But when he came back for one more album "The Unquestionable Truth", he played some awesome guitar parts. His new band "Black Light Burns" isn't too bad either. [favorite work - the Truth]

5. Greg Tribbett (Mudvayne, Hellyeah) - I'm not counting the stuff he's done in Hellyeah, because that's just "fun rock" with simple riffs. All the guys in Mudvayne are great musicians, and Greg is no slacker in that department either. [favorite work - Happy?]

4. Dan Donegan (Distrubed) - He uses one of the coolest guitar tones in today's metal. His guitar playing is brutal to go with it. And from what I've heard of the new album, Disturbed is only getting better. [favorite work - Inside the Fire]

3. Mike Einziger (Incubus) - Incubus may have gotten softer as they've matured, but Mike's guitar playing is still amazing. If I was grading just on hair, he'd probably raise a couple spots. [favorite work - Certain Shade of Green]

2. Mark Tremonti (Creed, Alter Bridge) - Hell yes I rated Tremoni this high, he's an amazing guitar player. There's videos of him shredding on YouTube and they are awesome. His work in both bands is great. Check out his solo in Alter Bridge's - Open Your Eyes. [favorite work - Stand Here With Me]

1. Tom Morello (Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, Nightwatchman) - The master of guitar effects. I remember I used to think Rage had a DJ in the band because of some of the effects he'd do. He's not terrible on his own, doing the singing, as Nightwatchman. Audioslave is probably the best "supergroup" of recent music. [favorite work - Gasoline]

I Wish You Were Here...

VH1's annual celebration of rock music, The Rock Honors, features only one band this year. That band is The Who, and their Rock Honors program airs tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern on both VH1 and VH1 Classic. The program was recorded this past Saturday, July 12th, at Pauley Pavilion on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, and it features performances by Pearl Jam, The Flaming Lips, The Foo Fighters, Incubus, Tenacious D, and The Who.

I'm pretty surprised that there are not any shows announced for Chicago or Cleveland. The Who have always done well in both cities. Perhaps those dates will be added to the tour in the near future.

I'm not sure what form The Who's Fall concerts will take. Since they did a large-scale tour to promote their 2006 album, Endless Wire, I'm guessing that these upcoming shows will feature The Who's greatest hits.

There are rumors that Townshend and Daltrey will perform again as The Who next year in a tour of the world's most famous opera houses to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of their so-called "rock opera" Tommy. Nothing has been confirmed about those shows yet. Watch this space . . .

You probably relate to what I am saying, but probably have always equated such changes just to the new relationship itself and not the reality of STDs: Sexually Transmitted Demons. Every demon has a nature and specific corresponding characteristics. That is why groups of people that have no connection to each other but that are infested with the same type of demonic spirit, behave in very similar ways. We call them "stereotypes" but they are nothing less than "familiar spirits" that shape the character and personality of those that they influence. Hmmm... that's something to think about, isn't it?

When two people have sex, those two people become one. The same way that the physical bodies of the man and woman lock together and become one interlocked unit, so do their soul and spirit bodies. Every human being consists of three distinct bodies -- spirit, soul and flesh -- that function in unity with one another, as one unit. Each of those bodies operate in a different realm and each impacts the interactions of your entire human experience. Sexual activity causes two people to connect and become one in all three realms, thus allowing for the transmission of demonic spirits from one person to the other - the same way that sexual activity allows for the transmission of venereal diseases, such as clamyhdia, herpes and HIV, from one person to another.

What I am trying to get you to understand is that those changes that take place in your life after you get into a sexual relationship with someone are not a coincidence! They are a direct result of sexually transmitted demons. Have you ever done or said something that you found very uncharacteristic for yourself and thought, "Where in the world did that come from?"This happens as a result of different demonic spirits that we pick up, usually through sex. The unfortunate thing about it is that most people are completely oblivious to the reality of spiritual STDs, and even once they do become aware of them; it is often too little too late.

You may think that you can pick up a sexually transmitted demon and just go to the spiritual free clinic (church), and get a dose spiritual antibiotics (prayer) and go on about your business, unaffected by what you've done. But this is not so. Just as there are some sexually transmitted diseases that there are no cure for, there are some sexually transmitted demons that will stay with you indefinitely. Some venereal diseases cause permanent damage to the body such as impotence, erectile dysfunction, uterine pain, cervical and prostate cancer and worst of all - sterility (not being able to produce offspring)! Sexually transmitted demons can have the same impact on your destiny and purpose in the spirit realm!!!

I really want you to think about this carefully. we often take sex so frivolously, regarding it as just a physical act. But I assure you that sex is much more spiritual than it is physical and even if you can use a condom to prevent the transmission of natural STDs, there is no condom to protect yourself from the transmission of spiritual STDs. Abstinence is the only way - preserving sex for the confines of Holy Matrimony.

the second video is drive by incubus, both videos have the drawing element in them that make you feel like watching them over and over again. The video above has a simple concept of a graffiti artist leaving his mark as he is being chased by authorities. Drive's concept is also simple, its an artist making a portrait of himself. i think the artist used stop motion for the sketches. Both videos blend two realms and you feel as though you are in between two worlds. they seem simply made but have an extraordinary effect. i am kicking my self in the ass for never taking any sketch or art courses...

FYI, Michael Einziger is the guitarist for rock band Incubus (the fuzzy guy below).

That Time-Lapse Consortium CD still feels fresh and exciting to me. It totally caught me by surprise.

Anyway, just today, a bulletin was posted on the Incubus MySpace page, which led me to this endvacuum.com note from Mike:

simply stated, end.>vacuum is a jagged collection of orchestral music i have been writing for the past year. a horrendously turbulent, and at times serene, aural interpretation of complex patterns and geometric shapes that assemble themselves firmly into my consciousness. a 40 minute-long insomnia-induced orchestral anxiety- attack. (sounds like heaven, right?)

under normal circumstances, i play guitar in a band called incubus. but last year i was forced to stop playing for several months due to a wrist injury that required surgery, as well as a time-intensive recovery. without the option of picking up a guitar, it was during that idle time that i began to write music for the orchestra, which became like a musical game of 'tetris' for me. a huge challenge on both cerebral and intellectual levels. I don't know if it's any good, either.

rather than record this music and release it as an album, i thought it would be much more risky and fun to for the maiden voyage of 'end.>vacuum' to happen as a live, unedited performance in front of my family, friends, and fans. with all mishaps intact.

the music will be performed in nine movements, by a group of musicians i am calling 'the graviton modern ensemble'. it will be a mixture of professional philharmonic players and friends. throughout the piece, i will play a variety of different instruments (sans guitar) alongside my brother, benjamin einziger, and my good friend blake mills. suzie katayama will be conducting.

to make this event even more heavenly, the first part of the program will consist of a lecture by my friend and esteemed british physicist, dr. brian cox. he is a world-renowned scientist who acts as a science correspondent for the BBC, and is currently conducting monumental research at the large hadron collider at CERN. the large hadron collider is a particle accelerator, and is the most powerful/ complex/expensive machine ever built by humans (google it). his talk will be a discussion on particle-physics and the mind-bending potential for major discoveries at CERN in the near future.

all this could make for an amazing evening at UCLA, or it could be a train-wreck. we'll all decide that together.

So, yeah... a new non-rock, compositional piece from Michael Einziger. I'm stoked. I don't know if it'll be in the same vein as Time-Lapse. I doubt it, but I don't really care. I'm sure it'll be some interesting music.

With Leather – Mean spirited and sophomoric, Matt Ufford’s With Leather is targeted at a very specific audience. Blue language and sex are crucial parts of the equation.
