People haven’t forgotten their winless performance last year, and have used this to dismiss this squad as this generation’s version of last generation’s NU. However, the UAAP has a way of turning the tables on unsuspecting individuals.

A simple win is good, a couple of wins is momentous, but getting into the Final Four is nothing but a miracle for the men's basketball team of UP Fighting Maroons. he ya! Mananalo kami! ASA. =)

Yesterday (Saturday, June 5, 2008) Arirang Pop in Seoul celebrated their 1,000^th episode here in the Philippines and it was held in Manila Film Center of Cultural Center of the Philippines at 3pm. The most awaited event for Filipino fans to see their Korean idols and experience the Korean wave. The favorite VJ of Arirang Pop in Seoul VJ Isak was present in the event. Outside the CCP complex you could see the different fan clubs of different Korean artist wearing their designated color of their favorite artists. You could see the color blue of fan club ‘CLOUD RAIN’, the color red who dominated the most space in the room ‘CASSIOPEIA PHILIPPINES’, the sapphire blue of ‘SUPER JUNIOR PHILIPPINES’, also the ‘V.I.P Philippines’ of the band Big bang, the color orange own by the Shinhwa’s fans, also other artist fans are present there like fans of Se7en, Jumping Boa, Triple S of SS501, Wonderfuls of Wonder girls and Soshi of SNSD. I just realize now that there are so many Filipino who are fans of halluyu artists and this is the proof how strong the impact of Korean wave in whole Asia. I saw that the span of being a fan of an artist has no limitations cause you could see older fans in their 30’s,40’s and even in their 50’s but the rate of the  young fans are still  high. When we enter the Manila Film Center the big screen shows some music videos of Korean artists and the crowd started to sing and cheer for their favorite artists even me I started to get excited and begin cheer also. The people become more enthusiastic when VJ Isak appeared on the stage and began to sing the song of Christina Aguilera ‘I’ll turn to you’.  The special guest on that day was the former member of Click-B and his name was Evan. When Evan appeared on the stage the crown go crazy and they started to scream so loud. Evan sung three songs and his first song was called ‘Boys can help it’, the second was ‘Funky song’ (I guess so??) and his last song was by Maroon 5 and song title was ‘this love’. There are portion were they show some greeting from different Korean Artist from (sorry can’t remember all of them) SS501, Big bang, Super Junior, TVXQ, Shinhwa, Wonder girls, SNSD and SHINEE. In the poll conducted also on that day TVXQ won as the most favorite artist in the Philippines. Before I forgot VJ Isak also dance for the crowd and the song that she used was “Wait a minute’’ by the Pussycat dolls. In the second half part of the event is the game portion were the crowd will choose the best dancer among the three contestants and the other game was asking question related with Arirang Pop in Seoul and the contestants should answer it correctly because the prize for the winners are Posters with original signatures of their favorite artists and original CDs of their idols. Isak sung ‘umbrella’ by Rihanna for her closing performance. The crowd begins to become excited when Isak started to walk in the crowd and she got scared a little bit because people started to get near on her. It’s was a very beautiful and memorable experience for us and I hope that this coming year Korean artists would consider to held concerts in our country because we will be waiting for them to come here. LOL ^_^

The first day we left after work and planned to avoid Chicago by heading south and then turning east once we knew we'd be sufficently past greater Chicago. Didn't have a plan as to where we would stop just figured we get as far as we could and find a cheap place to stay. Our hope was to get to the eastern side of Chicago so when leaving the following morning we would avoid some of the rush hour traffic headed into Chicago. We managed to achieve that by ending up in Schererville, IN about 11:00pm and stayed at a Best Western. Obviously not a B & B, but they did have a decent continental breakfast to get us ready for Day Two.

Departing around 10:00am, Day Two took us through Indiana and Ohio. We were having to stop every couple of hours to allow Dad to strech, smoke and drink coffee. We ended up at our planned destination of Painsville, OH and Rider's Inn around 6:00pm. Rider Inn's is a step back in time with modern hospitality. When we pulled up if felt like we should have been stepping off our horses and tying them to a hitchin post. Granted after the two days of travel getting out of the car we were feeling a little bow-legged.

In addtion to being a B & B, Rider's Inn also houses a restaurant and pub. They are in tune with local music scene as they had fliers up for local muscians who would be playing there in the near future. However none they night we stayed. The pub, our entryway into the establishment, had a welcoming warmth to it with the staff and patrons circled around the television watching the Cleveland Indians play. The game did not appear to be disrupted by strangers walking through thier midst.

After unloading our bags, we ventured down to the resturant for an evening meal. Having only snacked since our continental breakfast we were quite ravenous. By this time of night we were the only diners in the dining room obviously accustomed to many. Rooms to the side of the main room are probably used for civic club meetings among other things. In the main room, two tables stood out with plush chairs instead of the chairs that were used at other tables. Though I didn't ask, I could imagine them being the special tables for honored occasions like anniversaries or engagements. Dinner was well worth the price we paid for it. From appetizer to dessert, my plates were scrapped clean. And the elegance of the presentation was a match of any I've ever seen.

After dinner, we adjorned upstairs to our room to rest. K and Dad hung out in Courney's Corner, while I went to check out the Gathering Room. For B & B newbies, most B & B's give names to each room that represent the personality of the room or some piece of history related to the house. Each B & B typically has a common room (or several) where all guests can gather and get to know each other. Often this is where brochures for local tourist attractions are displayed. And of course one of the first rooms to gain my attention. So I selected a few brouchures and planned to settle down on the sofa to check out this area where I was staying.

However before I could completely settle down to go through the brochures, I spied all kinds of fun things along the walls. Newspaper clippings with advertisments from back in the house's past, probably uncovered when they began converting the house into B & B, where used as wall hangings. And then there was the corner where games and magazines where stored. There I discovered what appeared at first to be a bench but after closer examination it turned out to be an oversized cribbage board. Cribbage is a card game that K and I often play when we travel to close out an evening. So we give major bonus points to B & B's who have hidden cribbage boards amongst their ammenities. I immediatly snatched it up and carried it back to the room so we could use it later for a game.

Then I returned to the brochures. The first few were fine attractions but since we weren't planning on staying more than the night didn't hold my interest. The last one, Ohio's Underground Railroad Freedom Stations (published by the Ohio Division of Travel and Tourism), drew me in and left me wanting more. This brouchure was as much a history lesson as it was a travel brochure. I never realized how central Ohio was to the Underground Railroad. So as I was being drawn into the brochure which is seperated into geographical sections of the state, I realized I knew little of the life the escaping slaves must have lived. The section of the state in which Painsville resides happened to be the last section of the brochure... isn't that just the way it always is. And lo and behold there I learned that Rider's Inn was a "station" on the underground railroad. It was like history smacked me and sent shivers through my body. It was then I began to feel the house. As if right there and then I moved through a time tunnel and began to feel the people who had moved through the house. Without knowing their names or personal history, I felt a connection.

After some contemplation, I returned to the room and K and I enjoyed our cribbage game. Afterwards I returned the "cribbage bench" to its corner in the Gathering Room but didn't cover it back up in hopes that someone else knowing what it was wouldn't have such a difficult time of finding it. With it in its home corner, I returned to my corner and we slept until morning too tired to conjure up dreams with my newly found connections.

The next morning we woke and packed our bags into the car before joining our host for breakfast. We were the only guests that night so we were the only ones at breakfast. This happens alot when you stay on a weeknight at a B & B. Weekends and special events are when they book up. Being the only guests are the best stays because you get the full attention of the hosts and thus the stories that are of interest to you. Not that all stories aren't interesting, just some are more so. There were many stories that morning. Not all will be recalled here because of length concerns (I am already over 1100 words).

But that one that drove me to start this blog is of course related to the Underground Railroad. It turns out that the Rider's Inn was opened and run by the Rider family. Their house was not just any station on underground railroad, they were an end station. Because of Painsville's proximity to Lake Erie and thus to Canada, the Rider's house would be the last "station" before the slaves landed on the the free soil of Canada. Like today, the Inn was a pub back then. Because the bounty hunters knew that any slave that made it that far would need to get to a port to be able to make it to Canada they knew lots of slaves came through there. They suspected that the Rider's helped the slaves and so they would wait at the pub until they thought the slaves had arrived and then go raid the basement to capture them. Except while they were waiting Mrs. Rider kept giving them drinks... and more drinks. If the bounty hunters gave up the wait (or maybe passed out) she would give the all clear and the slaves would slip out and make their way to the lake's edge. But if the bounty hunters persisted and the slaves were not able to "slip out" there was a tunnel that lead out of the basement and to backside of hill behind the house that would cover the slaves on their way to the lake. And thus the bounty hunters would arrive in the basement and there would be no slaves. Humm... where did they go to? FREEDOM.

Rangers target Marek Suchy is also attracting interest from England, France and Germany and is poised to make a decision on his future.

The 20-year-old Slavia Prague central defender has been linked with a number of clubs during the summer.

Agent Pavel Vandas did not wish to name any of the interested parties.

But he told BBC Sport: "It is possibility that Marek Suchy comes to England or Scotland, but he has offers from Germany and France too."

Slavia lost 7-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium before a 0-0 draw in the return game in the Champions League.

Suchy was also part of the Czech side that defeated Argentina in last year's Fifa Under-20 World Cup final in Canada.

But he remains under contract with Slavia and, despite interest from around Europe, has not ruled out staying with his present club.

Appreciate Every Little Thing You Have In Your Life!!

I mean every little god given thing you have in your life. As simple as a clean toilet, where you can sit in piece and do your “business” in piece. Bed to sleep on, light to read with, friends to talk with, food to eat and water to drink.

I personally experienced the need in the last 2. I literally starved to sleep while I was thirsty as marathon runner on the 36^th kilometer of the way. I showered in a shower with no head, just a pipe coming out from the wall…

So listen when I tell you, APPRICIATE EVERY LITTLE THING IN YOUR LIFE!

I am thankful for this experience because I did have a hard time with saying thanks for everything I have and personally I think I stopped appreciating a lot of things in my life. But now I can honestly tell you I am back on track and please don’t make the same mistake as I did.

We create our contrasts in life, my friends. So next time when you get in uncomfortable satiation, don’t just curse and be angry at something or somebody, stop for a second and think why could you attract this into your life. What lesson life is trying to teach you here? Because inevitably we create those contrasts in life to serve us well, and There Are No Failures Only Lessons In Success!!

According to reports in today's newspapers, Rangers are in a tug of war with Old Firm rivals over Aston Villa forward Shaun Maloney, an ex Celtic player.

The Scottish Sun today claimed that Rangers are willing to bring the ex Celtic player to Ibrox, but will have to fight off competition from Maloney's former club and Rangers' fierce rivals Celtic.

It is understood that Maloney is prepared to face the rath of Celtic fans to sign for the blue half of Glasgow, however, Celtic must be favourites to sign him, and are likely to use Lee Naylor in a player plus cash deal with Aston Villa.

Maloney has not had the best of times down in Birmingham and has admitted to being homesick. It is thought that he is prepared to take a wage cut to come back home. He is reported to be on £20,000 per week at Aston Villa, and was only on £16,000 per week at Celtic.

Maloney's ex team mate Roy Keane is also an admirer of the free-kick specialist and is thought to be ready to make a bid to bring him to Sunderland. Maloney can play wide on the left or as a forward, and is a dead ball specialist.

If Smith were to sign him, he would become the second ex Celtic player to sign for the club this summer. In this day in age, it seems to be common place for Rangers and Celtic to sign players who have played for the other side.

Celtic started the trend when they signed Kenny Miller from Wolves, only for Miller to leave for Derby before RETURNING to Rangers. Celtic have also in the past signed ex Rangers players such as Steven Pressley, Mark Brown and Barry Robson.
