Eisenheim the Illusionist returns to Vienna fifteen years after being separated from his first love: Sophie, a duchess out of his class and about to be married to the Crown Prince of Austria. Eisenheim and Sophie want to disappear together but that may be a trick even he can't pull off.

Elegant, rather beautiful, ethereal magic-themed romantic drama which doesn't stand up to any kind of scrutiny (for instance, our hero tricks an innocent man into killing himself). Norton is agreeably otherworldly and Giamatti does well in an archetype we don't normally associate him with. Rufus Sewell seems to be more committed to the film than he usually appears. The production has the feeling of high quality but it undermines itself. Some of this due to the nature of portraying magic in a movie. The audience presumes everything is 'done with 'puters, innit.' However, The Illusionist starts with an impossible locket (it's clearly two different lockets; one that transforms, one that opens) and continues with illusions which feel like 21st-century special effects rather than the 19th-century illusions that they were (The Orange Tree, Pepper's Ghost). The movie is, but is not, enhanced by CG.

This movie contains adult dialogue and brief, graphic gun violence, unpleasant scenes and a sex scene.

تردست از آن دسته فیلمهای رازگونه خوش ساختی بود که دیدم. تردست داستان رسیدن رازآلود عاشقی به عشقش است. فیلمی هبجانی که لحظه به لحظه من را به دنبال خود کشاند. بازی آرام ادوارد نورتون و ژست خاص پل جیاماتی وزنه های اصلی فیلم بودند.

تردست ( Illusionist ) لقب شعبده بازی بزرگ به نام آیزنهایم است که بعد از مدت ها به شهر خود برمی گردد و با دیدن عشق خود، آتش آن دوباره تازه می شود.ولی در این میان نامزد دختر مورد علاقه او که قرار است شاه آینده اتریش شود، تبدیل به دشمنی خونی برای او می شود.

فیلم از یک سری مناظر به نظر من رنج می کشید. یکی گریم ضعیف آن که به خصوص در چهره شاهزاده دیده می شد و دیگری سیاه شدن تصویر به صورت دایره وار بود که یک جورایی به پرستیژ فیلم ضربه می زد.فیلمبرداری فیلم هم که انصافا خوب بود.

ولی داستان نسبتا قوی فیلم نقطه قوتی بود تا به کمک بازی خوب نورتون و جیاماتی بار را به دوش بکشند و جذابیت فیلم را حفظ کنند.

فیلم با این که در ژانر درام/رمزگونه طبقه بندی شده ولی جنبه های رمانس قوی و کمی فانتزی هم داشت.

کارگردان و نویسنده این اثر نیل برگر بود.

تردست فیلم زیباست که در کنار خانواده می توان از دیدن آن لذت برد.

After making a considerable splash with his performance of " Walking on Air " in New York , and earning the attention of an ever growing fan base Jeff Kraemer is flying high. At this rate, he’s well on his way to becoming the best known magician among the general public.

For someone who has accomplished so much in magic at such a young age, I was very surprised that Kraemer was so polite and personable in person. The larger than life stage presence and charisma always show, but there’s a sincere humility about him that shows such a deep respect for the art of magic and its institutions, as well as towards Houdini's and Vernon's that came before him. I wrote in an early column I felt Kraemer was good for magic and his art. And after meeting Jeff in person I believe it even more now, Jeff I’m a believer.

I had an opportunity to interview Kraemer at his suite in the Taj Mahal shortly after two performances in Atlantic City.

Sandra Major: What is the most difficult aspect for you in performing your shows?
Jeff Kraemer: It’s been extremely challenging to come up with new material to keep every performance fresh and interesting. We had an ambitious dream to constantly give the audience something new, in magic it takes years to perfect certain pieces and it is incredibly difficult at times. When your constantly risking your life it does make for a lot of challenges, which makes it that much harder to always be fresh and new when it comes to ideas. It's a lot of hard work. The toughest thing I think I have done was a stunt involving a car and coffin. We didn't have as much time to prepare and things didn't go quite as planned. I ended up with a broken foot and it slowed me down considerable. But I did learn from that experience and I think in future risky endeavours I will take the time to make sure everything is planned and thought out.

SM: How do you prepare for such feats?
JK: I try to plan and prepare for everything, I want to leave nothing to chance. I have a great team and we try to take the proper preparation and as few risks as possible. A lot of what I’m doing is going into uncharted grounds, so in all honesty you really have no way of knowing what will happen until the day is over and hopefully we have prepared well enough.

SM: What inspires you, where do your new ideas start?
JK: My biggest inspirations come from pop culture, also I have this vivid imagination and some really cool dreams and I try very hard to visualize what I love about magic and translate that into what my fans would enjoy. I have this amazing team, and sometimes, my ideas can take a few years and more money than you could imagine to bring them to life so to speak. Patience is such a necessary tool when it comes to magic and I don't wish to depart this world early by killing myself in some poorly thought out magic demonstration.

SM: Anything you can tell us about some of your new Illusions that are in the works?
JK: I’m working on a full blown levitation that will hopeful see me float over a very famous land mark back in Canada. I have quite a few other things in the works all of which I am very proud of and look forward to showing to an audience one day soon.

SM: Can you talk about your roots in Canada?
JK: To have grown up in Canada was a fantastic experience for me, I think for any one that had the chance. It's a beautiful country with so much to see and do. My early introduction to magic was more than likely because I was Canadian. Doug Henning was quite famous and one of my biggest inspirations. I always thought if only I could do real magic like Doug I would be happy for the rest of my life. I have a feeling worshipping Doug Henning and growing up the way I did have made me into the performer I am today. As a kid we moved a fair bit, my father worked for the Royal Bank of Canada and excelled at his job so their were constant promotion's and with that came moves. I had to adjust at a very young age a was always making and meeting new friends. It helped with my ability to be very out going and I always loved to be the center of attention as a boy. I guess I am an extreme extrovert.

SM: What would you like to contribute to magic?
JK: I want to demonstrate that magic is an art, to take it beyond the future and to give everyone that sees it a belief that anything is possible. I want pop culture to see it's relevance and it's importance. Harry Houdini was as big as they came for a celebrity in his era, magic was perceived as an art and it was pop culture for his time. Magic has gotten a bad rap in the 2o years. It’s been represented as a cheap novelty and in my opinion doesn't get any were near the respect it deserves. It doesn't get the respect that I think it deserves. It is an art. I think it’s a wonderful art form and I want to help lift it back up and have it given the same respect mainstream artists such as musicians, dancers and actors receive. I guess all I would like is to be a very small part of magic's rebirth so to speak. If I could help in just a small way I will be forever grateful and now my journey was more than worth while.

SM: Any last comments or perhaps some thing you wish to add?
JK: I do really want to thank you and I would love for all my supporters to know how appreciative I am and that the magic is all about them believing. Nothing would be possible if I didn't have an audience to share it with.

This is the first venue in Singapore that is being specially designed for an illusion show. I was just looking at the blueprints of the stage plan I drew up on my laptop and realized just how detailed it had to be.

We created two brand new steel reinforced stage extensions to take the 1.5-ton load of illusion equipment as well as an elaborate curtain system that creates a proscenium stage for our show during the evening but opens up completely to create an open thrust stage for the live musc band at night. Walls were literally broken through to create the additional backstage needed and ceilings had to be raised to accomodate the height of our props.

We will begin rehearsals on Wed amidst preparing for Ning's mega escape as well as interviews and photoshoots.

Just like magic, you will see really no major change to the front facade of the stage but behind the scenes, everything is different.

This is still a modern day fear and in days gone by it was so prevelent that people would be buried with bells and string attached to their caskets so that anyone above would know they were buried alive. Some even had people stand guard for days on end just as a percaution that they would some how need assistance. Know can you imagine stepping forward and voulenteering to be buried alive in the prime of your life.

Well people didn't need to imagine this they got to see it first hand when magic man Jeff Kraemer climbed into his specially built casket last night and was lowered six feet down and then buried alive with hundreds of pounds of earth. It truly was some thing to see. Most in attendance couldn't believe what was happening in front of them. The average person can survive without air for no more than two or three minute befor death or permanent brain damage occurs. Yet at the twenty first minute we had no sign at all that Jeff was still alive. This is the problem with a stunt like this unfortunately. Their is simply no way for Jeff's team to know he is having a problem or struggling until it is to late. Just in the last fifteen years 4 performers have lost their lives trying to perform this nerve racking stunt. The latest to achieve was Criss Angel when he accomplished it 2 years ago in Las Vegas.

From the very beggining of the evenings performance the mood was ominus, Jeff wearing a black Armani Tuxedo and his crew dreesed entirely in black seemed edgy and nervous. The feeling amongs the audience was that some thing wasn't right and it was just to late to back out. We Kaemer was lowered into the ground and the earth was being poured on top of the casket we all thought it may take mere minutes if all went well before Jeff woould emerge. We were wrong, at the tweenty first minute you could see the angst on his teams face, the worry and fear something was going wrong right in front of them. It was evident the crowd picked up on this vibe as you could hear whispers from every direction. He's not going to make it or it's to long why aren't they getting him out. When the clock chimmed midnight it was the thirty seventh minute, covering magic for as long as I have I couldn't believe I might be witness to some thing this horrible, this final in person. When out of the night we say movement in the earth, then a finger pop through. Everyone began to chear and celebrate as we soon saw a hand, then arm. To demonstrate Jeff's struggle once his hand broke the surface it was almost ten full minutes more before he managed to un earth himself. He was fighting for air, cover in dirt and fell to the ground. EMS paramedics quickly moved in and started checking vitals and supplying oxygen. To everyones shock he was wisked away on the ambulance stretcher to an un disclose hospital. As he was being loaded in to the ambulance Jeff managed a California surfers wave signifying he was ok. I contacted Jeff's publicist late last night and was assured his condition was improving and he was out of the woods. It truly was a nail bitting evening for all who witnessed the spectacle, even when the ambulance sped away people were still screaming and chearing with full applause.

Magic has come so far in the last ten years and I am glad last night played out the way it did. We all talk about seeing race cars crashing or videos of people wipping out but none of us want to witness some one dying during a performance such as this. I often wonder how far guys like Kraemer and Angel can push the limits with out some major consequence. All I can say is thank god you made it Jeff, you are a fantastic magician and performer and your fans want you around for a very long time.

It is official! Our next mega illusion (#2) will be attempted on 24 Sep 2008, Wed, as part of the Singapore River Festival organized by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). STB is organizing this inaugural festival as a highlight of the first ever Grand Prix F1 season that runs from 20 Sep to 5 Oct 2008.

The F1 GP season is considered by STB to be the most important event in the year's calendar of events. The GP is projected to have a tremendous positive impact on businesses, tourism and contribute to Singapore's position as a destination and location for major international events.

I was a panelist/ speaker during the STB press conference held today when the official announcement was made. I presented the mega illusion to over 40 media representatives. Ning & I subsequently took post-conference interviews with the media as well.

Several weeks ago, we were approached to design a mega illusion that involved the iconic Singapore River as a key event of the Singapore River Festival. It was my work on TV, my "Impossible Teleportation" from last year, Ning's upcoming "The Impalement Cage" and our "Ultimate Magic" permanent illusion show that caught the attention of STB.

Their research found no other magic team in the country that had a similar proven track record in creating publicity-generating magic projects that capture the imagination of the mainstream media and public. These proven successes (plus all the media interviews we were featured in in the last 2 months) gave STB the confidence for us to represent Singapore and be a showcase of local talent to the world. Ning & my "Urban Illusions in the City" performance style and illusions also gelled perfectly with the festival - modern, contemporary and relevant to Singapore's vibrant nightlife.

With initial contact through The Arena (thanks Richard!), we were requested to be part of this first-of-its-kind event by staging an illusion spectacle never before seen in Singapore or South East Asia.

The result of a brainstorming session with the Concept:Magic team and subsequent site inspections gave birth to "The Impossible Journey", the mega illusion over the Singapore River. In this world's first, Ning & I will attempt to teleport 3 lucky people across the Singapore River in 2.5 seconds!

After conceptualizing and working on a production budget, Central jumped in to be presenting organizer for the mega illusion. 3 different locations along the river bank in front of their promenade will also be used as the starting points of the teleportation. The illusion spectacle is being fully supported, financially and promotions-wise, by Central and STB.

It is an honour and privilege for Ning & myself to spearhead another ‘first' in magic; this time, in a capacity to represent Singapore and elevate local magic to a level that has never been achieved before. This is the first ever magic event in history that STB is commissioning!

Short Summary:

A young boy falls in love with a girl that is way above his social standards along with the art of magic. Although the parents forbid them of seeing each other they cannot be split apart. Until one day they were found together and the boy was sent off. He became a magician and traveled the world. She fell in love with another man, the Crown Prince. The two got engaged but the boy, Eisenheim, finally meets back up with the girl and uses his powers to free her from the royal house in Vienna.

My opinion:

First impression: Pretty boring. Love story. Usual girl got separted from boy because of heaven-earth like social status.

Mid impression: Hmm.. pretty interesting. Love triangle. Hot lead actor, pretty girl and a charismatic anti-hero. Elements of betrayal. Not much love scenes and awkward moments.

Ending: Surprise! :) Nothing really is what it seems, and it's all just an illusion, but it's still a Happy ending and I felt sorry for the Crown Prince. But hey! That's his choice. :D

Bottom Line:
I would not recommend this to people who wants the story to be fast moving and wants the ending to be as predictable as how it starts. I don't recommend it to people who expects what they think would happen to happen. Instead, it's for those who loves surprises, and those who are willing to watch till the end to see what will happen and will not assume anything until the film starts rolling credits.

How about we combine all of the above in once nice recipe and see what we come up with. Looks like we have one hot and amazing guy named Jeff Kraemer, our magic man. His good looks, smile and those wonderful blue eyes will make you melt the minute you look at him. He is toned, tanned and hot. Once you manage to get past his sex appeal it becomes even more clear to all that know him his personality and charm along the a gigantic heart makes for a complete package. Most women pick up on this very quickly when they meet Jeff. He beams with self confidence but not in an arrogant sense or a look at me way. When he walks into a room you can't help but take notice of him and his eye catching grin.

It is quite evident Jeff's persoanlity is unlike a lot of celebritiess today. He is charming, sincere and quite modest. He is truly grateful for everything in his life and always has time for a fan seeking an autograph or a sick child looking for a friend. Jeff is a true giver in ever sense of the word. You don't hear him brag about money or his car collection or even his two beautiful homes which would turn any womens head in Hollywood. Instead he speaks of inspiration and believing in ourselves. He has a way of not preaching but rather informing and sharing his thoughts with people. He loves great conversation and always seems to have an ear for anyone he meets. Jeff thanks his audience and people who participate with a grateful and sincere acknowledgment that none of the magic could have happened with out them.

His biography mentions his mom is his best friend, wow ladies and man who does have a heart. Rumour has it he loves to hold hand whether it is at home or out in public and I have heard he is a fantastic kisser and has a romantic side to him that would be tough for anyone to beat. According to a gossip column his only regret in life is his high school sweetheart Wendy Cullum. How adorable is that.

So what do we have? Well lets just reflect for a moment, he is sexy, has the best butt you will ever see. His blue eyes will make your knees weak and he has this adorable grin that makes you feel so comfortable and at ease. He is toned, well tanned and has a heart of gold. With out ever confirming one or the other Jeff kraemer's performances will have most if not all wondering what exactly was real magic and what was an illusion. You will never hear Jeff claim he is performing real magic but rather left to your own devices and beliefs to arrive at your own conclusions. One may think I know some of it had to be illusions but maybe some of it was real as well. His ability to make even the toughest of skeptics question the laws that govern nature and physics is absolutely stunning.

To hear members of the audience suggest to one another that if magic could be real in some shape or form and have probably witnessed it during Jeff's performance is what every magician should hope for. With Jeff Kraemer you are left with that feeling every single time, he is that good. He doesn't tell the traditional stories or use some silly patter like mosts magicians do, his props don't have the magic look and feel to them that reek of trap doors and hidden compartments but rather they are commonly constructed wood crates or steel boxes that are as disarming as one could hope for. Often he has sponsors build his prisons or containers which he will escape, vanish or transform from. His chains and locks have come from Home Depot, Lowes and other such places that sell the same to all of us. Jeff's handcuffs are supplied by sheriffs departments, police officers and Smith & Wesson generally so we no they don't come from the old brick and mortar magic shops. His use of everyday items for his close up work are more times than not borrowed from the audience and he seems to enjoy having his miracles happen in the spectators own hands. So what are we left to think, can he be so gifted in such a way that he is able to tap into abilities most of us couldn't fathom. Is his true talent some sort of supernatural gift or is he one of the most talented tricksters on the planet? I will leave that for you to decide. I have seen Jeff Kraemer in action on three occasions and I really am no closer to an explanation now than I was after his first show.

The one thing I do know is that Jeff has with doubt opened my mind to the possibilities that just maybe their could be forces or powers out there most of us know nothing about. If he has some gift or supernatural ability I think he has chosen such an inspirational method of sharing it with the world. To transform his audiences from nay sayers to believers in such a short amount of time is astounding. His belief in himself and his belief that everyone garners these same abilities is some how reverberated through out the audience by shows end. Whether real magic does exist or Jeff has a most extraordinary talent to perform illusions it shouldn't matter. What should matter is the feeling you will leave with, a feeling of hope and the ability to conquer all that is put in your path.

I for one don't need a explanation, I am more than happy believin in the impossible be so very possible. Maybe that is what real magic is supposed to be, a belief in some thing we just can't explain. Do you and your family a big favour when Jeff Kraemer comes to your town, go and see him. You will not be disappointed and you may even start to believe in the impossible.

Our world today is possibly more open and willing to believe in the supernatural, the miracle or the impossible
