Faustus, writing to St. Augustine, said: "You have substituted your agape for the sacrifices of the Pagans; for their idols you martyrs, whom you serve with the very same honors. Nothing distinguishes you from the Pagans, except that you hold your assemblies apart from them" (Draper, Science and Religion, p. 48. New York: 1876).

[googlevideo=http://video.google.es/videoplay?docid=8883910961351786332]

He promised it would be unlike anything I had ever seen, felt, or heard.
He promised it would be extraordinary.
He promised he would be at my side for the duration.
He promised it would last only minutes.

The last two promises were broken.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Things have been quite horrible with me this month. My best friend was hospitalized at the start & in very bad condition. Her touch-and-go situation there has kept me quite unstable. The reason for her stay has also affected my home life. So much traveling (to and from her locale), so much worry about her, so much worry about my fiancé, so much worry about work, so much worry about the future... So much stress... So much mental anguish...

When Jack, my fiancé, came home from work today to find me returned from NY a day early, he was ecstatic. He rushed to me and covered me with sweaty kisses. I had to fight the urge to ask him to stop as I wasn't in the mood for any closeness let alone intimacies (though I'll admit to finding his salty skin delicious). Oh, yes, I was happy to see him and touch him again. It had been nearly a week since I'd left. But circumstances have made me cringe at men, even him, being in close proximity and moreso at the idea of sex (we hadn't done anything in a full two weeks - unable to orgasm for a month). Thankfully, he's understanding. I just wish I could understand better and be able to help myself cope.

He bathed quickly and returned to a dozing me. He sat upon the floor and held my hand as I went over the past day's hospital activities (I phoned him each day save this last day). He and my friend are very close but, sadly, he's unable to visit her. He listened intently. "I need a shower," I said, concluding my talk. He accompanied me to the bathroom door, making me feel uneasy. I asked him if it was ok if I bathed alone. He sheepishly turned away. "Jack? I love you." Seeing the tears welling in his eyes brought my own out.
He told me he would have something special for me when I was finished. "Magic," he said. Not knowing at the time what he really was hinting at, I just blew the word off and showered.

I finished toweling off in the bedroom and he walked in behind me. A jolt shot up my spine and I quickly covered myself. My androphobia reared its head, something that has been happening much too often this month. "I'm sorry," he softly apologized and turned away to stand in the doorway. "It's ok. You scared me." I let off the towel and wanted so much for him to turn and see me. But he didn't. Perhaps that was for the best. He told me to wear my pajamas (despite it being early afternoon). Dressed, I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him from behind. After a bit, he circled around and held me. Despite my unfortunate "new" fear, there are still those perfect moments in time that are treasured between us. After a moment, as he stroked my back, he said, "You need to take your underwear off."

What!? He gave his shy laugh that I adore. He told me that what he had planned would go better without them. A twinge of fear crawled over my flesh. "You're keeping your clothes on, honey." He asked that I trust him and that I would thank him later. After he walked away I pulled my brassiere off; I needed my bottoms for "security."

I walked into the living room...
The blinds were closed and lights were out, darkening the large room. The only light came from one flickering tall candle on the coffee table which was pulled several feet away from the couch and the sunlight that couldn't be blocked from around the blinded window. Behind the candle sat an open hardbound book. On either side of it sat a small digital clock and glass of water. Jack stood at the short table waiting. "What're you doing?" I asked. He told me he had been planning something for months. He asked me if I was willing to forget this month if only for a few minutes. If I was willing to submit myself to him spiritually. If I was willing to walk with spirits. I found his questions nearly humorous but held my composure and agreed.

He promised it would be unlike anything I had ever seen, felt, or heard. He promised it would be extraordinary. He said I would travel, astrally, to another realm, dimension, whatever I wished to name it. When I asked how long I would be there he answered, "Only a very few minutes. I'll be with you. I promise." His promises, reputation with occult experiences, and that shy smile won out.

I sat upon the couch and let him maneuver me into the nook of it; his hand grazed my breast and I gave him a teasing smile. He reached down, pulled my pants elastic, and peered down. "You'll regret those," he laughed at my panties. "Why?!" I laughed. He said it was my last chance but I refused. I was happy that the minor sexual incident was a cutesy one. It calmed me even more.

He told me his simple instructions: "Hold it until I tap you three times, then breathe." Then he told me to stare at the clock after a kiss... Ok...

He read a bit from his book in Latin (I knew the language as I've heard him read in that tongue before) and held a smooth brown stick, no larger than a pencil, which was laid upon it. I took it for a wand. He whispered to the candle's flame then held the tip of the "wand" to it. It ignited and he quickly blew it out sending rippling scentless smoke into the air. Another word was said, then he placed the cherry tip into his mouth. He stepped over to me, placed his free hand upon my chest, and after removing the stick, brought his mouth to mine. He shotgunned a rather massive amount of tasteless smoke into me. I stared into his beautiful green eyes as he intently stared into mine. I glanced at the clock - 2:44. Three quick taps from the fingers on my chest--I exhaled a massive gray cloud. I looked at him again in time to see him remove the stick from his mouth again. This time, he leaned in to kiss; smoke rippled out of his mouth and nostrils like a hellish dragon. His lips enveloped mine and his soft tongue danced with me. I lightly sucked some of his smoke in... He quickly tapped my chest, stepped immediately away, and pointed at the clock - still 2:44...

Is that it...?

2:44...

Um, nothing happened...

2:44...

Jack...?

...

Blindness took me. I sank. I sank into the cushions. I sank. I sank into velvety blackness. I sank. For hours I rested in the dark.

There was a glass of water. There. In the dark. I reached for it. I reached through the air.

The air - composed of intricate geometrical pattern. The air as it is. The air as it has always been. Solid. Real. Tangible. I studied it for many minutes.

The string of my underwear irritated. Tight across me. An annoyance.

The glass was cool. Damp. Light. Full of liquid. Diamonds. Not water. Something like diamonds. Something more precious than water. Something more real. Something complex. Something beautiful. Something perfect.

He stood there. Some distance from me. Scowling. God. Horus.

This is yours. I set the glass down from where I found it. I watched him. I watched him, unmoving. I watched for many minutes.

I grasped a beam of air to help me rise up. I stood there. I stood before a god.

He scowled.

Thank you. I knew he wanted me there. He wasn't upset. He was simply divine.

I pushed through the air. I took a step out.

And appeared within the god's private chamber. His bed. Massive. Composed of paints. Oils.

A high window was open. Trillions of yellow lines grouped through it. Closer. Line after line of yellow light beings. Dancing. Purpose: to bring light and glory to god. For hours I watched. I watched the erratic motions of the light's dance.

Horus. Scowling.

This isn't my world. I took a second step closer to him in that dark room. I'm happy to be here.

I sat upon warm warm dirt. Scent of earth. Scent of life.

Tight across me. An annoyance. I ran my finger along the string. Hot. Unnatural.

I pressed a hand to the wall. I pressed my face to the wall. I spread across the wall. To feel every corner. To feel foundation. To feel. To become.

A glass window kept the grass from me. The trees whirled. Leaves scattered. They need me. It would be morning soon. Then perhaps I could join them.

Thick air swung through the blue sky. They need me.

Birds sang. Sang to me. Called to me. I love them. Swam in the air.

Horus smiled.

"Demeter."

"Samantha."

"Welcome home."

Jack sat cross-legged before me at the glass doors. He was smiling lovingly. He was so beautiful. So real, so beautiful. I ran my fingertips over his cheek. Held his hand. My god.

"Where were you?" I asked. "Right here the whole time," he answered.

"What time is it?" I was gone half a dozen hours at least. Motions took ages to make. So precise in movement. So engulfing were the experiences.

He pointed to the coffee table, some minute distance away. There was the clock - 2:49.

2:49.

5 minutes.

5 minutes of time.

5 minutes.

He helped me rise from the carpet. His hand upon my waist sent ecstatic chills through me.

We walked, lightly, feathery, to the bedroom. I laid upon my back and extended my arms out. The cool invisible air tickled me all over. He ran his hands up my legs, up my torso, along my arms, and back until they met my face. His hands all over me were comforting. "You're so beautiful," I whispered.

He began to unbutton my top, "May I?" I couldn't stop a toothy smile. With each button undone, cool air rushed in to tackle untouched skin. After pushing off my top, he slowly brought down my bottoms. The disappearance of my panties were an incredible relief. He was right. I shouldn't have worn them.

Undressed, he climbed up over me; I was eagerly spread. "You're so beautiful, Jack. I love you." I climaxed seconds after his entering. Several minutes of bliss later, he spilled his seed within me. My god.

My Horus.

3:20.

I sat up in the cold room. It was different. No, everything, every item, was the same. But it was different. He watched me as I walked out of the room and paced the other rooms. It was different. Everything was different. There was more. Unseen, but more. The world grew. In a short period of time, minutes, the universe expanded.

Back into the bedroom, I just looked at him, perplexed. "What are you thinking?" he asked.

I hadn't any words. There were no words. The words I provide here do not do justice.

Speechless, I climbed back into bed. I scampered onto him and made love again; my lips never parting his.

_____________________________________________________________________________

He promised he would be at my side. He wasn't. He became a god. My god. Horus. He was there for me, Samantha, but not for me, the spirit. That's what I was. I left Samantha behind and walked as a ghost.

For hours. For days. He promised it would last only minutes. It didn't. It did. For Samantha. But I wasn't her. I wasn't alive. I surpassed living. I was spirit. I was eternal.

I was a goddess.

Isis is the Greek name of the Egyptian goddess also known as Usat, Ese, and Esi. Isis was the patron goddess of magic, marriage, fertility, childbearing, and healing. She was seen as a motherly goddess, and was one of the most popular deity's in the Egyptian pantheon. Her popularity spread throughout all cults of Egypt, and even to Greek, and Roman culture. There have even been many parallels connecting her to the Virgin Mary. In modern times her worship has spread to many neo - pagan groups. On the Kabbahalistc Tree of Life she can be placed in Binah signify the motherly womb. However in Golden Dawn circles she is placed in Chesad and is the god-form of the Praemonstrator officer. She was known as the "Queen of the Throne", "She who Seeks Justice", "She who Knows the Orphan", and "She who Gives Birth to Heaven, and Earth."

The popularity of the goddess can probably be attributed to her powerful personality emanating from her enjoyable tales in whom she always plays an important role, and as a reflection if the attributes that ancient Egyptian culture considered important in their lives (of course this is just speculation on my part). She is connected to her brother, and husband Osiris, and is related to Nephthys, and Seth. She was the mother of Horus, and once queen of Egypt. One can argue that the goddess represented aspects that both ancient Egyptian men, and women found as admirable. Isis was seen as the ideal wife - loyal, loving, and compassionate. She is seen as a strong, and clever woman, and as quoted in C. Scott Littleton's anthology on myths - "wiser than a million gods."

In all instances these titles fit her well. Let's examine some of the stories that surround her.

Isis, and Ra

One of the things that Isis is known for is discovering Ra's secret name. Isis had observed Ra's movements as he left his palace, and the walks he took daily along the same path. One night as Ra lay asleep he began to drool, forming a small puddle on the ground. Isis collecting the saliva - used her magick to form a serpent that she laid along Ra’s path. The next day as he set out he was bitten by the serpent, and fell powerless, and in pain. A company of gods gathered around yet no one could figure out how to cure him.

Finally Isis appeared, and offered to relieve, and cure Ra of his pain in exchange for his secret name. Ra refused yet the poison continued to spread faster, and faster burning him fiercely. He cried out in agony, and Isis once again asked for his name. He refused until finally he consented. Ra would give Isis his secret name under the condition that she share it with no one else but her son. Isis agreed, and finally healed him. The importance of this legend helps us to understand the popularity of Isis, and the position that the ancients held her in.

She was able to trick, and make the king of the gods weak, and only with her help could he be saved. The sun was of great importance to the Egyptians. Many of the gods wore the sundisk on their heads similar to the way Christian saints wore halos. Yet the fact that Isis was able to overcome one of Egypt’s most important symbols is fascinating. One could compare this story to an earlier Sumerian legend concerning Enki, and his grand daughter Inanna (more on that in the future). A version of this Isis legend can be found here: http://www.sacred-texts.com/egy/ebod/ebod07.htmIsis Mother of Horus, and Wife of Osiris.

Isis, and Osiris

During Osiri's reign on Earth he was not the only one who helped to civilize mankind. Isis had introduced the concept of marriage, helped with teaching the arts of agriculture, and ruled while her husband was away to civilize the world. This would not last long however for Seth's betrayal would not only cost her the kingdom but also resulted in the death of her husband.

Using her magick however she revived him, and after being impregnated she would give birth to Horus, raising him in Khemmis along with the help of the cow goddess Hathor. Her son would eventually go on to battle Seth while Isis tried her best to help him throughout most of the battles - even throwing a spear at Seth, and striking him.

Through her clever, and cunning personality she was able to trick Seth into admitting that he had taken the throne unfairly. After Seth, and Horus had battle for many years the gods held a council where Isis was forbidden to attend. Before the gods she disguised herself as an old woman with the suppose intention of asking Seth or help.

Before the council she related a story about how her son had been robbed of his cattle by his uncle who claimed that it belonged to him, and not to his father. Seth at once said that this could not be since the estates of the father belonged to the son. The old woman began to laugh, and beforer the entire congirgation transformed back into her original appearnce. Seth had been tricked, and the ods finally agreed to give the throne back to Horus.

The worship of Isis is one of the earliest examples of the belief in a holy trinity; Isis, Osiris, and Horus. Their popularity has spread beyond academic circle, and religious circles reflecting moving themes, and in the case of Isis the figure of a strong woman, and the inpspiration of Queens, and the holy femininity.

In the spirit of the Bush-McCain Challenge, which shows that most people cannot tell the difference between Bush and McCain, I ask weather you can tell the difference between Horus and Jesus. So, guess which one was:

Born of a virgin?

Baptized at age 30?

Had 12 disciples?

Was crucified?

Was resurrected 3 days later

Was associated with the astrological sign Pisces, the fish?

Was known as The Lamb of God?

Did you guess either one or the other for any of these? If so, you are incorrect. The correct answer to all of the questions above is both!

Check this comparison of the Lives of Horus and Jesus for many more identical or highly similar traits.

Now watch this great video showing the ways in which the Judeo-Christian religion (deliberately singular) is really just a resurrection of Egyptian astrology.

Oops. I almost forgot to clarify why I classified this not only as religion but also in the category humor. This may confuse some people. I'm sorry for that. The reason is quite simply that I find it amusing that a couple of billion people believe this crap. In fact, most people that do would wince at the suggestion that they believe in astrology. And yet, it is so.

Is this just my sick sense of humor? (probably)

„Now, it's important to point out that there is a tendency to simply disbelieve things that are counter to our understanding, without the necessary research performed. For example, some information contained in Part 1 and Part 3, specifically, is not obtained by simple keyword searches on the Internet. You have to dig deeper. For instance, very often people who look up "Horus" or "The Federal Reserve" on the Internet draw their conclusions from very general or biased sources. Online encyclopedias or text book Encyclopedias often do not contain the information contained in Zeitgeist. However, if one takes the time to read the sources provided, they will find that what is being presented is based on documented evidence.“

„Upon further research, I’ve concluded that this theory originated with Gerald Massey, an English poet, born 1828, died 1907. He published primarily poems, but had an interest in Egypt. He parlayed that interest in Egypt into several books and lectures in which he set forth the proposition that Horus was in essence the first Jesus, and Jesus was a cheap imitation. The primary basis for his writing is the Egyptian Book of the Dead. This is available on-line and you can easily look it up to read it yourself. Be forewarned that forced reading of this would be an extremely efficient form of torture.”

He] was elected Chosen Chief of the Most Ancient Order of Druids from 1880 through 1906.“

„They must find it difficult… Those who have taken authority as the truth, rather than truth as the authority.“

Weiter geht es demnächst!

These two pictures are of a bowl I painted. It has an Egyptian theme because, lets face it, Egypt is amazing! Ok well, I think Ancient Egypt is amazing anyways. The Eye of Horus is used for protection and on the side is Horus' name written in glyphs. The outside is plain but the inside is quite busy which gives it a sense of contrast. Not sure what prompted with but I like it...

[googlevideo=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1817848131611744924]

The truth hurts but seeking it is always worthwhile, some would say. In my case I wasn't searching for the truth earlier this morning. I was just looking for a good, entertaining online documentary that would tickle that thing between my ears.

I think I got more than I bargained for.

Part 1 of Zeitgeist is not for the religious zealot and fundamentalist. It takes a closer look at religion, particularly what it labels as "Christian myth," and draws parallels between our concept of Christianity and all the other Theistic religions that drew heavily from sun-worship. In a nutshell, it says that Chrisitianity is a belief system plagiarized primarily from Egyptian religion. Preposterous? Blasphemous? Watch it first, check the specific examples given and judge it later.

Part 2 tackles a wide spectrum of "conspiracies" that have been going on since the last century. Focus was primarily on the 9/11 incident and its parallels with events that drew America into it's biggest "defensive" wars:the sinking of the Lusitania, Pearl Harbor, and the Tonkin Gulf "lie" as the film puts it. It tells us that 911 is a "false flag" operation designed to indignate the public and facilitate America's entry into war with Afghanistan and Iraq. In short, it tells us that some government people behind the scenes are pulling all the strings, going so far as to kill innocent civilians just to further their cause. By this time, the film starts to become a little more compelling.

Part 3 discusses the men, motives and mechanics behind the aforementioned events. The film reveals that an international group of bankers are running the show, as early as the 1st world war. In passing, it claims that the panic of 1907, the Great depression and America's involvement in all its biggest wars were carefully orchestrated acts designed to further these bankers' interests. Its detailed tackling of the debt and currency system was concise and to the point, giving a new meaning to the word "slavery." It does an excellent job in exploring the connections between prominent business and political figures then and now who were involved in the "show" one way or another. It goes so far as to claim that the ultimate aim of these "men behind the curtains" is to create a one-world government based on an implantable RFID chip that they can control remotely (death to credit cards!).

Zeitgeist is a full 122 minutes of compelling, and at times, disturbing watch. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know the bigger picture beyond what the media feeds us everyday.

if you want to watch it directly from the Google.video site, just click this link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1817848131611744924

The elusive "G-spot," all women have it and most men cannot find it. Yet, when a man knows, what he is doing, or happens to stumble upon that erogenous zone oooh, ooh! Watch out, it is pure bliss. You see a man will never know that he has hit that spot, because as all women know, we fake it to make it. So to them they are always hitting it, you can say that women always thumps a man's G-spot: his ego.

I won’t mention names. However, I will say, that I reject all forms of religion as superstitious foolishness. Conceived and created by primitive and manipulative men that mentally enslaved their followers. Men, who had no concept of reality or science, who assumed the Sun revolved around a flat earth. Men who believed in virgin births and other discredited folklore. Those men believe people can be raise from the dead, and the earth is only 6,000 years old.
Science repeatedly has rendered that argument invalid. Carbon dating proves that the earth is millions of years old! I was born a Catholic and raised in a Mormon foster home. In my short life I’ve been exposed to all forms of religion, and have come to the only real and true conclusion; that it is all a bunch of BS!
BS that cannot stand up to scientific analysis. It is unfortunate that you were offended by my mentioning religion in my tribute to Carlin. Hey, that is what Blogs are for, to stimulate conversation and debate. Next time post your response, rather than messaging me with your disapproval.
Coming at me by repeating “God said this and God said that” and using scripture as a reference is not evidence friend. In order for man to explain the wonders of the world he used the word “GOD” for thousands of years . What is wrong with just saying we cannot explain all of the wonders of the world? Why try to explain it with a cop-out word like “GOD”? It is ridiculous, especially when you realize that science is discovering more about the Earth and its origins every day. What’s wrong with people just being real and admitting that we don’t know everything! Personally, I’ve long since rejected religion as unproven rhetoric.
Look at the ancient Egyptian God Horus. Horus was written about extensively in ancient Hieroglyphics, over a thousand years before the birth of Jesus. Take your God goggles off and see the truth, open your eyes and do not believe in things on face value. Ask questions, and hold biblical contradiction’s to scrutiny. Research it and you’ll come to the realization that the Bible, especially the story of Jesus was plagiarized.
Tell you what friend; I am going to drop a few jewels on you. Remember, you came at me with the “God” rant. Again, take off those God goggles and step out of the bubble, try to grasp what I am about to tell you. It is not my intent to change your beliefs. Unlike what you are guilty of trying to do with me. Just because you have been listening to religion all of your life doesn’t make it true. I have heard many theists argue; if it isn’t true why do so many people believe in it? The answer is quite simple, because it has been pounded into them since they were born. However that doesn’t make it true!
The similarity between the Egyptian God Horus and Jesus is unbelievably identical. Horus was born of a virgin named “Meri” (Mary) and was the only begotten son of the Egyptian God Osirus. His birth was herald by the star Sirius. Jesus, a star in the east.
They were both born in December; Horus on the 21st , and Jesus the 25th. Both births were announced by angels and witnessed by Sheppard’s. Herut tried to have Horus murdered in his infancy, and Herod attempted to kill Jesus. Both were child teachers and disappeared at age twelve. Not to be heard from again until age 30.
Both Horus and Jesus were baptized at 30. Both of their baptizers were subsequently beheaded. Both just so happened to have 12 disciples’ Horus walked on water, cast out demons, healed the sick and restored sight to the blind. Sound familiar? Horus raised Osirus from the dead. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Both Horus and Jesus were crucified alongside two thieves then buried in tombs. Both were resurrected after three days. Horus however predates Jesus by over a thousand years. Now you tell me friend…. Coincidence or plagiarism?
As for your argument about “Morality” and where do we get morality from? As if, without Religion, we would be out here slaughtering each other. You have a computer, do a little research friend. The most violent society’s on earth, are society’s with the most religion. The United States, Israel, the rest of the Middle East and much of Africa.
To the contrary, the most atheistic society’s like northern Europe (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Greenland) are virtually murder and crime free. Some of these country’s populations are as much as 80% atheistic. Explain that. You can’t! Fact is we get our morals from socialization. We naturally know that it’s wrong to steal from or hurt/ kill our neighbor’s. Religion has nothing to do with morality.
That’s all I’ve got friend. Savor it and get back to me if you wish. This time post it, I welcome the debate. Ginger

I've heard it said, that you should never speak ill of the dead. However there are some loathsome creatures whose passing deserves a toast. I'm speaking of the "Dixie-Crat" and former Republican Senator Jesse Helms. Former Dixie-Crats, like to say that they had the political principles of the Democratic Party, you know being for the people and not just for big business and the privileged, the "new deal", etc. They like to claim that they didn't leave the party, that the party left them. Not so. The reality is that they are motivated by the old out dated segregationist ideals. These people are driven by old grudges and hatreds that go back to our first Republican President; Abraham Lincoln and his opposition to slavery. Prior to the sixties, 90% of the (white) south voted for the Democratic Party. They hated Lincoln and the Republican Party. Why did they switch? To sum it up…. RACE! It wasn't until the sixties and the civil rights movement that this great political migration from Democrats to Republicans happened. Lincoln himself would never even recognize his party today. It has been invaded by intolerant bigots and haters to this day. This exodus was perpetuated by such racist scoundrels like Jesse Helms and Dick Nixon. It was called "the southern strategy" by those who cleverly promoted it. It was a winning strategy and is alive and well today. Don't get the wrong idea about what I'm saying. I'm not saying that all Republicans are bigots, not at all. However, I will say that most bigots vote Republican. To the very end, Helms was opposed to any compromise that had the possibility of improving race relations in this country. I'm white myself, but I understand that if this great country of ours is to ever live up to its creed, and be the shining light of fairness and justice. The country that men and women have fought and died for, we must rise above racial hatreds. We as a people must turn our back on divisiveness. I think that it's so phony that people like Helms are so quick to wave the flag and talk the talk about freedom and defending it. But yet, want to tell a woman what she can or can't do with her own body. Or want to get into our bedrooms, and tell us whom we can and can't love and marry. To be honest with you (I know that I will get some hate mail for this) I unapologetically celebrate at the passing of these knuckle dragging Neanderthals. America will be a greater nation when generations of haters like Jesse Helms pass. No, I am not saying that everyone in Helms' generation were haters. If that were the case we would never have had civil rights, woman's rights, etc. My problem with Helms and his ilk is that long after many of these long time political haters such as Sen. Strom Thurmond and George Wallace rejected their segregationist hate filled ways, Helms stood fast to them. Quoting a recent post of an article that I read on "liberal Land" Columnist David Broder, of the Washington Post hit the nail on the head when he wrote that "his willingness to pick at the scab of the great wound of American history, the legacy of slavery and segregation, and to inflame racial resentment" was his flaw. I truly hope this will be his legacy. Ginger

Three weeks ago I had the privilege and honor of catching George Carlin's very last performance here in Vegas at The Orleans. Although I've been a fan of his from the first time that I heard him say "Religion is Bullshit" I never took the opportunity to see him live. As a devout atheist our views on religion were in total sync. Yes I'm an Atheist.... Why, too many reasons to get into that right now. I will leave you three You Tube Videos to look at if you're interested. 1) Theoretical Bullshit 2) God is Imaginary 3) ProfMTH Back to George. The show was great ! I laughed so hard that I was gasping for air. Ironically at the end of the show he took the time to read to us (the audience) from a wrinkled up piece of paper that he pulled out of his pocket. It was from notes that he was working on for a new routine for another one of his many HBO specials. I loved it, it was classic George Carlin! I feel lucky to have heard it. I loved everything about him. I always found his brand of comedy to be informative. Also, he was an older man which I like. Don't know why I'm built that way. I suppose it might be because my dad died when I was an infant, who knows. Anyway, like myself he struggle for many years with substance abuse and like myself he eventually concord it. I found his political views to be spot-on with my own. I did differ with him on one thing though. He didn't vote. I once heard him say that the last time that he voted was for George McGovern. Way before my time! I vote every chance that I get. It's a right that I feel every American should always exercise. I have a feeling that we will see a turnout in November that will break all records. If George was to have voted in Nov. I have no doubt that it would not have been for John McSame. I will always miss you George. Ginger

I didn’t want to talk about politics too much in this blog, desiring rather to deal with our Western (Mediterranean, Roman) roots, with ancient habits still surviving today, with Rome past and present, philosophy, history, arts etc.

Three recent discussions though brought me into global politics again:

One occurred in the Canadian Commentator’s blog, also indicated by Theresa from Arkansas in her blog and dealing with the possible decline of the American Empire.

Another discussion took place here in my blog and dealt with a tighter European unification (which I see as a good way of fighting against Europe's decline): a really LONG discussion among Alex and Andy (two nice Englishmen living in Milan, Italy) and Man of Roma.

Finally, a third discussion among Rob and MoR (in his and in MoR's blog, 1 & 2) and Indian Ashish and Falcon. It dealt with this void here in the West which we perceive as far as morals and values, plus a lot of other stuff.

Ψ

Ok. What these three discussion had in common? Well, such minutia as the possible decline of the West, also vis-à-vis new emerging countries. I was also being asked by both Theresa and the Commentator to try a comparison between the Roman Empire and the Empire of the United States.

Ok, I'll try, but:

Allow me to expand it to the entire West (America + Europe) instead of dealing with US decline only and ...

allow me to restrict it to the possible effects such Western decline is having on culture, ideas and beliefs of the people involved.

Will this mean I'll get back to my blog's track? I do not know, really, but here we are, here is global politics again (though my own way) ;-)

Spiritual Désarroi

The heat is getting so appalling in here that thoughts become weird and erratic. I'm typing with sticky fingers, ants invading my human space in search of cooler air. Wondering if all this can be an extra motive why I accepted this topic again and why I feel like musing on ideas of decline...

Well, actually what we see here in Europe and America are all these people turning towards oriental religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, or doctrines like Scientology, or even Neo-pagan movements growing in Anglo-Saxon countries and probably originating from a disappointment towards Christianity and its different varieties (above, an image of the Neopagan Goddess and the moon).

A woman, a friend of mine, is starting to adore some crazy coloured stones she always brings around wherever she goes. Amazing, no doubt. And what about this person very close to me who turned to Sathya SaiBaba, the Hindu saint, long ago? Or this relative of mine who, once relocated in France, embraced the Muslim religion? (my mother never got over it, I'll confess).

Many Muslims, vis-à-vis such Western spiritual crisis (and relativism), react in different ways, from a total acceptance of consumer society values up to forms of moral rejection or even active reaction (which unfortunately also lead to terrorism). But that's another story. Let's stick to the point.

As the Roman Empire. An Analogy

Referring to Western contemporary societies, numerous commentators and artists have talked of a decline-of-the-Roman-Empire type of situation. It is an interesting analogy, since in those old days the official Roman religion wasn't so attractive any more and innumerable oriental cults were spreading among the different classes of the Roman society.

Italian Archaeologist Rodolfo Lanciani ( 1846 - 1929 ) for example unearthed the remains of the Temple of Isis in Rome, who was imported by the Romans from Egypt and set on the banks of the Tiber, the sacred river of Rome. We have also mentioned in a previous post how Egyptian rites and culture fascinated the Romans at the times of Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony (and in other times).

(Ants are now walking on my keyboard. I HAVE to make a pause and gently push them away....)

ψ

Since among all those foreign cults the final winner was the Christian sect, would it be totally absurd to wonder if once again there will be a winner? We mean - and it might be the heat - is it possible that again some faith (new or old) could profit from today’s Western void (which seems to affect Europe much more than America)? Italian Oriana Fallaci feared Islam would be the winning belief about to conquer Europe.... Well, we do hope that no Abrahamic religion (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) will prevail, for a number of reasons, some of which we can mention in the next post ...

(ants and heat allowing... I need to buy AC, good also for mosquitoes, no doubt about it)

A fascinating depiction of Western void is offered by the acclaimed movies Le Déclin de l'empire américain (The Decline of the American Empire, 1986) and Les Invasions barbares (The Barbarian Invasions, 2003) by the outstanding French-Canadian director Denys Arcand, both illustrating in an eloquent way this emptiness affecting at least two generations.

(to be continued tomorrow; we will associate this topic with Buddhism, science and the Dalai Lama. See you tomorrow then, I hope)

"They must find it difficult... Those who have taken authority as the truth, rather then the truth as the authority."- Gerald Massey.

By now many of you are familiar with the three part controversial movie Zeitgeist, and if not then you can easily watch it for free on the maker's website, or on youtube(or just type Zeitgeist movie on google). I remember watching it back in June of last year when a friend of mine showed me the website, and immediately fall in love with it. A couple of months later I bought the DVD, and since then I have constantly recommended the movie to other people.

The interest in the movie has been intense, and many youtube vlog responses have gone from praise, and shock to the dissection of every point made. I remember seeing a video about a Christian girl who was practically crying on her vlog begging people to present evidence against the first part " The Greatest Story Ever Told". Unfortunately for her there is not much hope, however the same can be said for those who dedicate themselves completely to the "facts" presented by the movie. Whatever your opinion may be I can tell you one thing - on many points the movie is dead wrong.

However this doesn't mean that the movie doesn't present strong evidence against Christianity. The problem with the movie is that it focuses on weak arguments, and half truths when there is much more evidence that could make for better arguments, and would give detractors a much more difficult time proving their case. Another is that although the information presented in the first part has helped to bring the pagan - christian connection to a wider audience, the issues presented are at times dead wrong. The article will not focus on parts two, and three since they are based on conspiracy theory, and not on hard fact (although the 9/11 inside job theory is the only conspiracy that I actually take seriously). Let's begin with the suppose virgin births.

According to the film the god Horus was born of the virgin Isis - Meri on December 25th accompanied by the star Sirius. He was visited by three wise men, was considered a child prodigy by 12, and performed miracles by age 30 such as walking on water, and healing the sick. He was betrayed by Typhon, and crucified. He then rose on the third day. Most of the sources that the movie cites is from the works of Archaya S, and Gerald Messay. Some of the other works cited are all from the late 19th, and early 20th century ;sources which are already way to outdated for modern scholarship.

Many would argue that Gerald Messay due to being a self taught Egyptologist would not count as a credible source. Archaya S cites in her works many of Messay's ideas. Whatever your opinion may be on these authors one fact is clear - non of these attributes are found in any version of Horus's legend. Perhaps its just a difference in interpretation but lets look at a brief "accepted" version of the story which can be found in any book or website. I will be expanding on Horus in future articles. For the time being I will be using information from Mythology: The Illustrated Anthology and World Myths of Storytelling by C. Scott Littleton.

Horus was born from Isis after she had revived her murdered husband Osiris. He impregnated her with a golden penis which she had created upon reviving him. After Osiris impregnated Isis, and returned to the underworld Isis sought refuge in Khemmis, and gave birth to Horus. He was raised by his mother, and the cow goddess Hathor. When he grew up Isis brought him before a council of gods to reclaim Osiris's throne for Horus. Seth(who took the throne by murdering Osiris) refused, and after much deliberation Seth challenged Horus to a battle which would last for many years. Eventually Horus would lose an eye, and Seth a testicle, and after a final intervention by Osiris (see Osiris article) the gods finally gave the throne to Horus. This is why the Pharaohs were considered the descendants of Horus.

As we can see Horus was not of a virgin birth. He did not perform miracles, was not betrayed by Typhon( who was a Greek titan that the Greeks compared to Seth), did not die, and was not reborn. However these attributes are more in line with Osiris. The film could have done better exploring Osiris more with the primary sources actually available on his life. Osiris(Jesus) was sent to Earth by Geb(God) to rule over humanity. He became a teacher, and Pharaoh on Earth, and was loved, and followed by many people. He was betrayed by Seth(Judas), and (depending on how you read the story) he desecrated Osiris's body near the base of a tree, and by cutting it into pieces. Some sources say he was hung from a tree just like how some accounts in the Bible say Jesus was hung from a tree (Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29). He then resurrected after a period of mourning, and ascended.

Attis of Phrygia was in fact born of a virgin after his mother Nana placed an almond on her bosom. The almond was from a tree which grew out of the male organs of Agdistis who was a hermaphrodite. He was not crucified, he did not resurrect after three days, and no records show he was born on the 25th of December. He was driven mad to the point where he castrated himself, and he was reborn into an evergreen pine tree.

The information used on Krishna is completely wrong, but there are many similarities between him, and Christ. He was not born of a virgin, no star signaled his coming, and he was not crucified. However Krishna(Jesus) was considered the incarnation or avatar of Vishnu(God), and of a holy trinity. He was not born of a virgin but he was born in unusual conditions; Krishna was born in a cell while Christ was born in a manger. Both fled from infanticide; Jesus fled from Herod's massacre of children, and Krishna from King Kamsa. Jesus's coming was predicted in the old testament while Kamsa imprisoned Krishna's family because of a prediction that said he would be killed by Devaki's( krishna's mother) eighth son. Despite the fact Devaki was not a virgin( she previously had seven children) Krishna was born without sexual union. Although he was not crucified, some accounts say that upon his death from an arrow, he was hung from a tree(remember the previous bible scriptures?). For more on this connection please visit:

http://hinduism.about.com/library/weekly/aa122200a.htm

The movie later focuses on Astrological correspondences related to these births, and on Mithra which is more complex then the movie makes it out to be. These will be discussed in another article in the future.

Although the movie helps to present the pagan - Christian connection to a wider audience it's use of deceptive scholarship not only opens the movie to criticism, and a wave of debunkers, but should someone do careful research they will find that it disproves the quite easily movie. Why some choose not to do their own research is beyond. The fact of the matter is that in almost all world religions there is a great teacher or god who sacrificed himself by being hung near a tree or in any other similar manner, and taught or civilized humanity.

The movie should be viewed not as tool to bash Christianity but as a way to show that there isn't only one way to truth. I believe that those who have been shocked, or offended by the movie should remember this.
