Got boring sheets? Tired of plain old cotton sheets?  Me too.  But there is a solution to mundane nights.  Ladies and gentlemen...lace never dies.  Trimming your bed-sheets with lace does not have to mean transforming your sleeping quarters to grandma's doily collection.  Lace comes in so many different patterns and designs that it's easy to select one that suits your style.  *Machine sewing parts of this project are recommended for a more professional finish. *

Supplies:

• Good old fashion elbow grease because you may be hand-sewing parts of this project.
• Iron + Ironing board
• Sheet set + 2 pillowcases
• Four yards of lace for a full or queen sheet set and 2 pillowcases -OR- five yards of lace for a king sheet set + two pillow cases.  I chose the 88mm Cotton Eyelet Lace. Style #38903 for my sheets.  If you are looking for a something a little less soft than regular lace, you should try metallic lace for a more modern look.
• Needle and thread to match the lace
• Sewing Machine
• Scissors

Directions:

1. Preshrink your sheets if they are new
2. Preshrink your lace if it is 100% cotton on the gentle cycle and I recommend putting it in a lingerie garment bag or tied pillow case to protect it. No need to preshrink if it is a cotton blend.
3. Iron sheets + pillowcases
4. Cut two 41" pieces of lace for the pillowcases. The rest will be for the top sheet.
5. Fold one piece of lace in half, right side in and hem the two ends together with a ½ inch seam allowance.  Repeat with second pillow case piece.  Press open seams with iron.
6. Pin lace loops right side out onto the pillowcases so the top lines up with the hem on the cases. Machine-sew the top edge of the lace to the pillowcase.  Remember to backstitch!  Hand sew all other parts of the lace down the pillow cases...the need for this step can be omitted if the lace you choose looks better free-flowing. 
7. Lay the remaining piece of lace across the top hem of the flat sheet.  Fold ½" at each end of the lace around the back of the sheet + press + hem.
8. Machine hem the top edge of the lace across the width of the sheet.  Hand-sew the rest as needed.
9. Make your bed, turn on some tunes and take a nap. You deserve it.

Conditioning polymer clay is a simple process that makes the clay easier to mould into the shapes you want. When you first open up the clay it will be a little stiff. You can cut the clay in thin slices to make it easier to work with. Start by choosing an amount that feels comfortable in your hands and then roll, stretch and compress it through your hands until it reaches a good consistency to work with.

You can also cut a slice of clay and run it through a pasta machine to help the conditioning process. Use the widest selection on the machine and run the piece of clay through. Next, fold it over and run it through again. Always place the folded end of the clay into the machine first. Repeat this process until it reaches the consistency needed. It is recommended that you only use clay that is already soft or pre-conditioned a little before running it through the pasta machine. Otherwise, it may shred the clay instead of conditioning it.

You will know when it is conditioned enough because the polymer clay is soft, pliable and less brittle. This allows you to mold it into any shape and size you desire. Conditioning the clay will also make the finished product stronger after it has been fired.

Jadi bagaimana supaya rumah tidak kelihatan seperti gudang? Berikut hal-hal yang kami terapkan di rumah:

   Gunakan lemari panel listrik untuk menyimpan sepatu dan payung. Di apartemen kami ada 1 lemari kecil untuk menyembunyikan panel listrik, dan setelah diukur ternyata ukurannya pas u/ menyimpan sepatu. Lalu kami beli 2 rak sepatu yang pas masuk ke lemari itu. Satunya cuma Rp45,000, beli di Depo Bangunan. Rak ini muat 20 pasang sepatu plus 4 payung, dan lihat bedanya sebelum dan sesudah sepatu kami disusun di rak!

   Selalu pasang rak yang lebar di gudang. Karena kami tidak punya pembantu, kami bisa menggunakan kamar pembantu u/ gudang. Waktu pertama kali pindahan, semua barang kami tumpuk begitu saja di lantai gudang. Akhirnya u/ mencari 1 barang, kita bisa habis 1 jam untuk mencari barangnya dimana, plus memindah2kan kardus2 lain supaya kita bisa mengeluarkan barang yang kita cari. Akhirnya kami putuskan untuk pasang rak heavy duty, lebarnya 60cm (cukup dalam u/ simpan koper). Kapasitas gudang kami meningkat setidaknya 4x lipat, dan barang apapun bisa ditemukan dalam hitungan detik karena semua barang tertata rapi.

   Simpan box plastik dari restoran! Saya nggak pernah buang tempat makan plastik hasil takeaway karena mereka bisa digunakan lagi, terutama u/ memisahkan barang2 kecil yang ditaruh di laci atau lemari. Misalnya: 1 box untuk taro lipstick, satu u/ eye shadows segala warna, satu u/ karet rambut, dst. Lemari di kamar mandi saya jadi jauh lebih rapi, cari barang lebih gampang, setelah saya memisahkan barang-barangnya dengan kotak takeaway.

4. Potong kardus u/ dijadikan divider laci. Tiap laci saya bagi jadi beberapa bagian sehingga, misalnya, underwear warna hitam dijadikan satu, warna krem jadi satu, baju renang jadi satu, dsb. Supaya masing2 kelompok ini tidak campur aduk, saya gunting kardus sesuai panjang dan lebar laci, lalu saya pasang2 di dalam laci u/ memisahkan 1 bagian dengan yang lain.

   Taruh perlengkapan cucian anda di kotak atau rak kecil. Waktu baru pindahan, semua deterjen, pemutih dsb saya taruh begitu saja di sebelah mesin cuci (lihat gambar), tapi jadinya berantakan dan selang air mesin cuci juga terlihat jelas. Karena itu saya pergi ke IKEA, beli rak harga Rp65,000, dan ukurannya pas u/ 1 botol pemutih, 1 botol softener, 1 box deterjen, 1 botol penghilang noda, dan ada 1 rak khusus untuk semua laundry bag saya (kantong transparan untuk menyimpan pakaian berbahan halus atau kaos kaki supaya tidak bercampur dengan pakaian lain).

6. Cek setiap sudut rumah tiap tiga bulan, lihat barang2 apa yang sudah tidak anda perlukan, rusak  dan kedaluarsa. Tanpa membuang, mendaur ulang atau melungsurkan barang yang sudah tidak kita pakai ke orang lain, rumah anda tetap akan kelihatan seperti gudang, ga peduli seberapa besar ukurannya :-)
7. Kalau anda ingin mencoba tips nomor 6 dengan lebih serius, biasakan diri anda untuk "beli satu keluarkan satu". Misalnya, untuk tiap baju baru yang saya gantung di lemari, 1 baju harus saya berikan ke orang lain supaya lemari saya tidak kepenuhan melebihi kapasitasnya. Cara ini tidak hanya menolong anda supaya rumah tidak kepenuhan, tapi juga melatih anda untuk belanja dengan disiplin. Saya sekarang tidak pernah beli atau DVD baru tanpa melihat dulu, mana yang bisa saya lungsurkan. Dan kadang-kadang dengan melihat kembali lemari pakaian atau rak CD, kita melihat kembali barang-barang yang sudah kita "lupakan". Pikirnya mau beli baju kuning, eeehhh ternyata di lemari sudah ada 3 baju kuning. Ga jadi belanja deh :-)
