Here is Beat’s Weekend Sketch Challenge. It’s been a busy weekend so I’m a lit

Here is Beat's Weekend Sketch Challenge. It's been a busy weekend so I'm a little late posting today. Here's what I came up with for the challenge. I decided I hadn't used Brilliant Blue in probably a year (or more) and wanted to see what I could come up with. It was shouting "stars" at me so I picked I suppose a 4th of July theme or it could be a birthday or probably even a graduation or big event.

The card base is Brilliant Blue with layers of Real Red, Whisper White, and Ballet Blue.

The stamp set used was Classic Backgrounds with the stars stamps on Ballet Blue with Ballet Blue then run through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot Emboss Folder.

The Star was stamped in Real Red and punched out with the Large Star Punch and dimensionals placed behind it to pop it up as well as behind the red square.

The white stars and "celebrate" are rub-ons from the Anchored set and Sale-a-Bration set.

The mat pack and paper piercer was used in several places and the card was finished off with the red gingham ribbon.

Thanks for visiting with me!

I love the Big on Spring set in our Occasions Mini Catalog! It’s adorable and features sentime

I love the Big on Spring set in our Occasions Mini Catalog! It's adorable and features sentiments every stamper needs: new bride, new baby, and love. My problem: as a stay-at-home mom with two kids I can't spend the money my husband works so hard to get on every stamp set I think is cute. I already have stamps for brides, babies and love, so I just can't justify spending another $20 on three stamps. I'm sure some of you can relate. How do you get the designs you want without breaking the budget?

What I love about stamps versus stickers or even rub-ons is the flexibility. You can do just about anything with them creating the exact look you're after. It's all about versatile sets and creative ideas. Or at least the ability to copy someone else's creative idea! That's exactly what I did.

Using the Jumbo Outline Alphabet and The Snowflake Spot from our Spring-Summer Collection I created a great Christmas card with the same feel as Big on Spring, the set I love but can't get right now. What do you think? With the stamp sets I already have, I can create just about anything with this style by simply substituting one of the letters with a cute picture. I'd love to hear your ideas! How do you make the most of a limited budget?

As always, here's my recipe:
STAMPS: Jumbo Outline Alphabet; The Snow Spot; Warm Words
PAPER: Brocade Blue, Whisper White, Real Red cardstock
INKS: Brocade Blue and Real Red classic pads; VersaMark
OTHER: White embossing powder; Real Red grosgrain ribbon (A Stamp-a-ma-jig would also be helpful to line up your letters perfectly, but I just eyeballed it.)

BONUS: It's never too early to start those holiday cards! Anyone who mentions this post when placing an order for holiday card supplies will receive 15% off their total order. Offer only good through this website and this demonstrator.

Until we stamp some more ...

I received the "It's a Sign" set in January thinking it would be fun to use on cards for my nieces and nephews and I haven't used it before today. Can you believe it? A good sign (no pun intended) that I didn't really NEED it! And...on top of that, this card took me WAY too long to put together! I changed it and changed it....and changed it. I originally started with a landscape card and the elements just didn't come together. So a couple hours later (my husband and kids are all other places this evening!) this is what I ended up with. I decided to just stop.

By the way...I do have the #1 Dad! He's the BEST!
Stamps: It's a Sign, Holiday Blitz, All Year Cheer I, Canvas Background
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Wild Wasabi, Basic Black
Ink: Basic Black Craft, Not Quite Navy, Basic Black, Wild Wasabi
Accessories: Ticket Punch, Photo Corner Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Small Star Punch, Horizontal Slot Punch, Word Window Punch, Anchored Rub-ons, Black Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Not Quite Navy Brads, Sponges, Dimensionals,

Here's a pretty quick and fun Father's Day Card to try! This one uses Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla, and Bravo Burgundy. The stamp sets are "All About U" and "Holiday Blitz".

One of the best things about blogging is the chance to get to meet new friends, don't you think? I've met some really talented, kind ladies all over the world through stamping and blogging. It's great to learn from each.

I have a new friend from Colorado. She has so kindly awarded me the Arte Y Pico Award! So of course I had to take a look at her blog and guess what--it's great! She's very talented! By the way Stephanie, I agreed that Colorado was the most beautiful state (I lived in NW Colorado for almost 8 years and loved it!)--until we moved to Virginia last July. Virginia is a best kept secret I think as far as beauty! Now it would be a close race. I will always gasp in awe of the Rockies though!

Anyway, back to the subject at hand...as a nominee for the Arte Y Pico Award you are to pick five blogs that, based on their creativity, design, interesting material, and contribution to the blogging community, you think earn the award. You list their names and links to their blogs, on your blog, and leave a comment on one of their posts to let them know you've nominated them for the Arte Y Pico award! Each winner shows the award along with the name of the person who gave them the award with a link to their blog.

Now I get to pick 5 more blogs. This is always tough because I have so many favorites and I try to pick someone that hasn't recently been awarded. Here's my picks for today:

Paula - Stamp N Scrap With Paula
Susan - Susie Stamp Alot
Misti - Misti Stamps 4 Fun
Paula - Love Blooms In Me
Michelle - Come Stamp With Me

Thanks for visiting!

We made brag books yesterday at class that were so simple and quick to make using the Stampin' Up! clear envelopes as page protectors. The women with young children thought they could fill them and give them as gifts for Mother's Day. The women with grown children decided they could give them to their children and ask them to fill the book with pictures of their grandchildren!

There's a tutorial for making these brag books at splitcoast so I won't attempt to "reinvent the wheel".

Stamps: Warm Words
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Tempting Turquoise Designer Paper, Whisper White, So Saffron
Ink: Basic Black
Accessories: Corner rounder, Photo corner punch, Scallop punch, 1 3/8" circle punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, mat pack, dimensionals, crop-a-dile, tempting turquoise brads, clear translucent envelopes, apple grosgrain ribbon,

Here's another version of the shadow box card I made as a "trial". I love these "Embrace Life" flowers and their simple lines but the green background was going to be harder for class I thought so I went with the other one.

I’ve been trying to come up with a shadow box card to teach at my classes tonight and tomorrow

I've been trying to come up with a shadow box card to teach at my classes tonight and tomorrow. I had a request after I posted my mother's birthday card earlier this month. They're fun to do and not too complicated although I tend to complicate them more than they should be. Here's the one we'll be doing in class. There's several techniques that we haven't done before. One step at a time, it should be easy.

It's not that Groovy Guava is my favorite color, although I do like it. It's just that I have only a few months left to use it up before it retires!

Love is sprouting~

There was no difficult technique involved in making this cute Easter card. The only requirement is to do it with care. I used copper metallic ink to stamp the nest and light green ink for the egg and “sprouting” hearts. I just lightly stamped the hearts to make them visible then colored them with various metallic color pens.

Shown in the above picture is another card done with similar idea. To make the card even more interesting, you can add some dry twigs or leaves in the nest. Hey, it’s spring now. Did you notice that the branches are sprouting all over the places just like these hearts too?

Want to stand out in a crowded marketplace?

Here's an idea that will accomplish exactly that. How many Christmas cards to you receive at your home or business between Thanksgiving and New Years? Lots. How many do you receive in July? None.

I tell my clients that when everyone is zigging, you gotta zag.

If you're a business, consider sending out your holiday cards in July. I guarantee it will stand out and get noticed. I found this image at www.100christmascards.com as an emailable card. Contact your printer and customize a version for your business and mail it. You have the next 4 months to get this done. Dare to be different.

When everyone is sweating in the summer, anything with a holiday theme will definitely make people smile and leave an impression.

Foamies have become very popular during the past couple of years. You can find them in all shapes and sizes and for almost every holiday. They are great for children's craft projects, but anyone can use them to make easy, creative greeting cards. I found a big tub of Valentine's Day foamies at Walmart for just a couple of dollars, so I decided to try my hand at making homemade Valentine's Day cards with them. This Valentine's Day project is a great activity to do with your kids. Children as young as toddlers can stick the foamies on the cards after you have done the initial cutting and gluing. Preschoolers can even help with that part. While I was getting the cards ready to put together, I gave my toddlers some blank paper and a handful of heart-shaped foamies, and they had a great time sticking them all over their pieces of paper.

I came up with four different designs for my Valentine's Day cards. The materials listed below will make one of each of the four cards.

Materials:

- Four pieces of red card stock
- One piece of white card stock
- Valentine's Day foamies
- Paper cutter, scissors
- Glue stick
- Decorative scissors

First use the paper cutter to cut the red card stock into the desired sizes for your cards. I usually determine the sizes of my cards by the envelopes I have to put them in. I have a stack of envelopes of all different sizes, so each card can end up being a different size.

Card #1:

Turn the first card to open horizontally. I cut out four small squares of white card stock to glue in the center of the card to form one large square, with just a little space in between squares. I then placed a large red foamie heart in the center of each white square.

Card #2:

This card will also open horizontally. For this one I cut out eight small white squares and glued them in two rows of four squares across the face of the card. In the center of each square I placed a small heart foamie, alternating pink and red hearts. I trimmed the bottom edge of the front of the card with decorative scissors.

Card #3:

Turn this card to open vertically. I cut a large square out of white card stock and trimmed around all the edges of the square with decorative scissors. I glued the white square in the center of the card and placed a large red foamie heart in the center of the square.

Card #4:

This card will also open vertically. First I cut a piece of white card stock into the shape of a rectangle, to be slightly smaller than the face of the card. I next trimmed around the edges of the rectangle with decorative scissors. I then cut two red pieces of cardstock into the shapes of squares and glued them one above the other inside the white rectangle. Next I cut out two white squares to fit inside the red squares. Lastly, I placed a medium-sized red foamie in the center of each white square.

That's it! These Valentine's Day cards are fun for anyone to make. You can make them in less than half an hour and people will think you slaved over them for hours!

Happy Thursday to you all! What a beautiful day it is here in Virginia. Sure don't miss the heat of Arizona! Pam, I'm ignoring your tag for the moment but thanks for thinking of me. I have a nice short middle name!

I went out on a limb last night and just started putting things together (usually things don't turn out very well when I do that!). I wanted to try that adorable pocket card in the SAB catalog on page 7 to see how it went together. It's much smaller than I thought! I, probably like most of you, get stuck in a rut on colors combos. Both of the projects I'll show today are NOT my usual color combos.

I got the Happy Heart Day set back in January and had not yet used it. I hate it when I do that--buy a set thinking it'll use it and then don't! And this one little project certainly does't justify buying it! This needs something else but I can't decide what!

January 18, 2008

I hate it when I get a box of new stamps and "stuff" and have no time to play or...um...create! I just got my new catalog order on Monday--the same day we were ripping out the old kitchen. Then the rest of the week has been spent painting and repairing and remodeling, with DH being out of town. The new cabinets are in but the counter won't be in until next week so my house is a bit chaotic (why is that when only the kitchen is out of order?) and has a layer of white dust (drywall) everywhere. There's still so much to do but while I supervised the new cabinets going in I sat and trimmed stamps! Then I took a couple hours to stamp last night. I was so tired so I don't know how well the creative juices were flowing! I love my new stamps and paper and glitter and rub-ons...etc! I want to become invisible to the world and just make some cards! So much for that...

Love this Little Bit of Happiness Hostess set. This card is an experiment done in Bravo Burgundy, Rose Red, and Regal Rose. I used the aqua painters and the same colors of inks along with Basic Black and the Holidays & Wishes "Happy Valentine's Day". I'm not real crazy about the Bravo Burgundy with the other two colors but it's o.k....I needed a 3rd red.

My photography isn't so great...the Happy Birthday to You on the red cardstock actually is crystal clear but this photo looks smudged. Oh well, use your imagination! This is not as balanced as I'd like but my nieces and nephews will like it. This Big B-day Candles is a fun set. I'll have to work to find a style I like!

My friend asked me for a couple Get Well cards a couple weeks ago and she needed them quickly so I looked for a pattern off a card in the new catalog and came up with this. It's my version of the card on pg 53.

I put a sparkle sticker in the middle of the flower.

This is a valentine card for Julia, my 14-yr old daughter. I loved the Lavendar Lace Pocket Card but I'm sorry I don't know who made it. Here's the link. I had to try a couple myself.

Well, now that I've spent all night upload this post--I'm out of time to stamp! Umgh!
