Sprinkle some soils on your flesh,
The pleasure behind those pure eyes,
Everything looks so vivid,
At the bottom of this mad love,
I await the end of this dream.

Maybe I'm sinned is because I've given up.
Maybe I'm punished is because I've asked for too much.
Everything is left alone,
and runs around, in a circle.

and smile as if nothing ever happens.
And I wish, I wish
that I do not lose anything.

El Rapto del demonio (鬼隠し編, Onikakushi-hen?) estrenado el 10 de agosto de 2002;
Fluyendo el algodón (綿流し編, Watanagashi-hen?) estrenado el 29 de diciembre de 2002;
El asesino maldito (祟殺し編, Tatarigoroshi-hen?) estrenado el 15 de agosto de 2003;
El Tiempo Desperdiciado (暇潰し編, Himatsubushi-hen?) estrenado el 13 de agosto de 2004;
Revelaciones (目明し編, Meakashi-hen?) estrenado el 30 de diciembre de 2004;
Expiación (罪滅し編, Tsumihoroboshi-hen?) estrenado el 14 de agosto de 2005;

...I started watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. God I suck at post titles. Was trying for a while to think of some lame pun or quote from the show, but no luck.

Anyway, I'm severely disappointed with myself that I put this show on hold; it ended up being one of the best series I've seen in a while. I had stopped at pretty much exactly the wrong point, right before everything started to make sense (Episode's 16-21; bricks were shat) and the show became amazing.

The way the arc's all tie into each other is well done; mechanics like that in entertainment are always a plus. A series of random, meaningless or seemingly unrelated events all coming together in the end to reveal what actually happened is just strangely appealing. Why is that? A sense of fulfillment? A possible hinting at higher forces at work, or something of the like? Bah, this isn't a psychological post, so i'll stop writing about that before I go off on a tangent about it. But still, the way everything worked and made sense all of a sudden at points was great.

Another element of the show I think that made it appealing was making it come off as a harem-type of show. One male lead character and 4 females, all cute in their own ways and attracted to the male character, standard moé-harem setup. Then the seemingly cute girls end up being batshit-insane psychopaths, turning the mood that the series first played off *completely* around and making for one hell of a good murder mystery.

The supernatural element of 'The Curse of Oyashiro-sama' played in nicely as well. Sometimes it was played off as a literal curse of an angry god. Other times it was used as a mafia-type cover up. Others it was used as a scapegoat, and I couldn't help but be reminded of that book 'The Crucible' (as much as that book sucked), in the way that the supernatural/unexplained would just be blamed for everything that people didn't want to deal with ('We can't explain it, so it must be witchcraft!', 'We don't know who killed them, so it must be Oyashiro-sama!'). Overall it played into the story extremely well in more than one way, and showed a bit of the darker side of humanity (in b4 LOLDEEP).

The only thing's I can complain about in the show are probably the animation and voice acting (or, more acturately, a combination of both). Sometimes the character will be screaming insanely, and the character will just look as if they're slightly angry. Other's they'll look extremely pissed off, and yelling, but only like they're slightly annoyed. I guess the emotion of certain points in the audio just didn't match the animation. The animation in itself wasn't impressive at all, but the show was an adaptation of a doujinshi game, so it was relatively low budget. Honestly though, this show proves more then usual that animation does not mean everything.

"Fanityttö hapoissa" keskittyy otakukulttuuriin, joten on hyvä tietää mitä tietyt sanat ylipäätään tarkoittavat.

Yanderekko sanalla viitataan yandere luonteenpiirteen omaavan tyttöön. Tunnetuin yanderekko on School Days mediaperheen Kotonoha Katsura.

Yanderen synonyymi on yangire. Tunnetuin yangire hahmo on Higurashi no Naku Koro nin Rena Ryugu, lihakirvestä heiluttava koulutyttö jonka mutkikas perhe-elämä tekee hänestä murhaajan.

On kai selvää kenen toivon voittavan...

If you've ever been around me for more than twenty minutes, you've probably heard about this fucking show.

Even though I've probably gone on about how awesome Rena Ryuguu is for taking her school hostage or what a fucking bitch Shion Sonozaki was in her story arc, I'll admit, it won't make you bleed ecstasy or furiously masterbate to every animated shot of Rika.

It's still my favorite show. Not because of its fantastic animation (lol) or its overuse of their cicada_cry.mp3 they play twenty times an episode. whoa shocker, it's actually the plot and characters that make this show fucking amazing.

Since most people out there probably have no idea what this is about, here's a fun intro to the characters:

This is Keiichi Maebara. He moves to Hinamazawa (location: middle of fucking nowhere japan) after he goes crazy and accidentally blinds some dumb schoolgirl with his bee bee gun. He explains his actions as a way to relieve stress for constantly getting top marks at his school, which is stupid and this is exactly what our main character for the first half of season 1 is.

This is Rena Ryuguu. Her real name is Reina Ryuguu, but she changed it after another unfortunate LOLFUCKINGCRAZY moment in her life. She originally lived in Hinamizawa, but her parents decided it was too boring and gay so they moved to a bigger city. In Shishibone City or whatever, she lived an awesome life with her awesome parents, until her mother decided to take her to the ice cream parlor. As Rena's eating some awesome ice cream, her mother tells her that she's pregnant with another man's baby.

DRAMABOMB HAS SET.

The reason for the ice cream was to get Rena to pick her over her father, since she had the choice who to go with after the divorce. Rena didn't take kindly to this other man business so she started to fight her in court, since this bitch wanted all kinds of shit from Rena's father. But Rena started to go crazy from STRESS and broke all her shit and started cutting herself and had hallucinations. Her father didn't seem to notice until she beat the shit out of four of her friends and broke all the windows of her school. So she and her father moved back to Hinamizawa after getting Rena xanax and everything was hopefully awesome again. As you can see in the screenshot, everything really isn't that awesome.

This is Shion Sonozaki, who is quite possibly the most awesome character in anime.

She was born alongside her twin sister Mion. The Sonozakis are like the ultimate yakuza family of Hinamizawa. Basically, she was never supposed to be alive, since the daughter of the head of the Sonozaki family was to get the mansion and all of the family's power, which is pretty much limited to scaring people into giving them shit. But since there were twins, there would most likely be a huge fight between them for the position, so the youngest was to be killed. Shion survived because their grandmother felt too much compassion for killing my favorite character at the ripe age of 12 minutes.

So they just ship her off to a boarding school for a long ass time. She also has huge tits and doesn't give a fuck about anyone, except for this one guy who she wanted to bone all summer in 1982.

This is Shion's twin sister Mion. She's a tomboy and that's pretty much it god she's boring.

This is the most important character to the anime, Rika Furude. There's not too much you can say about her without ruining the entire plot, but basically she knows a lot of shit but hides it by talking like a retarded 5 year old. She also gets drunk every night. I'm not kidding. Oh and her parents died so she lives in some shitty cabin.

This is Satoko Houjou. She got beaten and raped everyday last year, but her aunt was killed by a "drug addict" and her uncle ran away with his whore, Rita, so she lives with Rika now. She's probably had the worst past of the gang (except for Rika) so she vents her anger by planting dumb traps for Keiichi to fall in and laughs at him. She was really close to her brother Satoshi, but he ran away last year right after her aunt was killed (WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE) Before her aunt and uncle came to town, her parents "fell" from a balcony and died.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When the Cicadas Cry) takes place in 1983. Basically, everyone's scared shitless of the town God called Oyashiro-sama. Every year on a certain Sunday in June, they have a festival to give thanks to him for not killing them. However, every year there is one person who is killed and one who goes missing. These "sacrifices" started in 1979 when a dam that was going to flood the city was being built. On the festival, the head of the construction was killed, thus the construction ended. The next year, Satoko's parents died on the same day. In 1981, Rika's dad died and her mother apparently committed suicide, although her body was never found. And the next year, Satoko's aunt is killed and her brother goes missing.

It's now 1983, and it's Keiichi's first Cotton Drifting festival. After he meets two delightful people, they end up dying on that very day. Now his friends are starting to act crazy, and he gets paranoid that they're trying to kill him. Welcome to Hinamizawa.

But back to what I was originally talking about, this show is my favorite show. Not because of its stereotypical "loli killers" or Rena's bad haircut. It's my favorite show because it had a definite start and a definite end. There are absolutely no plot holes (there are in the show, but there are none in the game) and everything eventually gets explained. I love it because it answers every question you might have had by the end. And I can't be the only one. There are two seasons, a movie, an OVA, two remakes of the original game and countless manga out there. Not to mention that there will be a sequel to the movie and another OVA coming out, so I can't be the only one obsessed with this show.

It's about friendship and trust, and what can happen to a group of people who can't stick together, which happens to involve drugs, paranoia, and a lot of fucking murder. It's a tragedy with hope, to put it in lame man's terms.

If you like anime, this show is pretty original and worth looking at. I guarantee you'll be hooked after episode four, and you shouldn't be disappointed by episode 50.

Okay I heard about this while reading threw Comic Con news and thought it was more then worth talkin

Okay I heard about this while reading threw Comic Con news and thought it was more then worth talking about. Well it appears that on July 29 we will be getting another Manga anthology magazine this one from Yen Press called Yen Plus. From what they said it will not only hold Manga from Japan but also America and Korean works as well. They will sell at book stores for 8.99 an issues and 49.97 for a subscription of twelve issues. Each volume will contain a section for Japanese work on one side reading going right to left and non Japanese works going left to right. For the first two years Yen Plus will the exclusive publisher of Square Enix manga. The works that the magazine will start with are Soul Eater, Higurashi - When They Cry, Sumommo Momomo, Bamboo Blade, and Narabi no O. Out of those titles Higurashi and Bamboo Blade are the only two titles that I really know anything about from watching there Anime. The others really didn't pick up that much interest after reading a small summary about them but Narabi no O might be interesting and Sumommo Momommo sounds like something I might at least give a try. As for the non Japanese content we get Night School, The Angel Experiment, Pig Bride, and Jack Frost. Though they do state that not all of the manga works will go threw there full run in the magazine but will be released in graphic novel form starting May 2009. Okay now I'd just like to give some thoughts I have about this magazine from what I've read. Having non Japanese content seem fine to me as there's already a lot of American and Korean manga out already. Now for some negative points I already see here. Now I don't know when it happened but magazine prices have gone threw the roof and 8.99 an issues sounds rather high to me personally. Shounen Jump offered the same amount of titles but at a less costly 4.99 an issue but then again it had bigger name titles in it. The second point is there going to drop titles in the middle of there run which is the thing that made me drop Shounen Jump as it really is a pain if your reading a title then it becomes a case of buy the graphic novel or screw off and then they do it again with another title. So chances are I'll pick up an issue or two mostly to sample the titles. I'll most likely drop it as soon as they stop Higurashi as it's the title I'm most excited about and will be the first to get dropped from the magazine very shortly and collect the titles I like in graphic novel form.

Ratings: 8.5 out of 10

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni is a good anime. At first I thought it was childish because of the character design but, boy, I was so wrong. Murder here, murder there, murder everywhere. At first I couldn't understand the story because I didn't now it had a "time loop" format.

The story revolves around group of friends in the village called Hinamizawa where strange events occur. Maebara Keichi is the main protagonist, he is a boy who just recently transferred to Hinamizawa. He, due to his charismatic attitude, easliy made friends with Mion, Rena, Shion, Satoko and Rika. The tranquility of the village is disrupted upon the day of the Watanagashi festival where a person dies due to Oyashiro-Sama's Curse. Mostly, the one killed by Oyashiro-Sama's curse is in Maebara Keichi's group of friends. Oishi, a local detective, then investigates the case but the only murderer which can be pointed out is Oyashiro-Sama and his curse. Slowly, the real truth behind the real killer is revealed.

I recommend you fright fans out there to watch this. This anime is not recommendable to those people who are weak-hearted as it contains brutal scenes and explicit showing of internal organs. I suggest you watch this in a dark room, alone as you will truly feel the real meaning of horror because you may feel that somebody's watching you. Who knows? It may be Oyashiro-Sama, hehehe.

So real life has been deciding to be busy recently killing that ability to really turn out quality p

So real life has been deciding to be busy recently killing that ability to really turn out quality posts like I want to. Thats another reason to love anime - its nots real life :) But I've done thinking and after many failed experiments I've decided on the direction I see this blog taking.

I really started this whole thing so I would be able to speak my mind on what I was thinking about with anime at the time so I'm going to stick with that. I plan to post reviews of anime I like so I can say why I like them, I plan to comment on News that catches my attention, and I plan to write opinions on things that bug/interest me about anything anime. So its mostly going to be a forum for my ideas about anime plus any other random anime things I find along the way. I don't claim to be on the cutting edge of anime in Japan I leave that to the episode by episode blogs out there - to be honest I can't keep up with real life in the way sometimes - another reason I'm going to take the approach I am.

One thing that I really like in anime is the series that make you think - you don't completely get everything the first time through and you may never fully figure everything out but that's the fun. I've always wanted to go through episode by episode and try to analyze some of the series that got me thinking so I'm going to do that here. I plan to take on each series as a project that I will post one part at a time trying to show what I think about each part. Some of the series that are top on my list to start such a project with are: Higurashi no Naka Koro Ni (and Kai), Boogiepop Phantom, and Evangelion. So look for them in the future.

There may be other contributors in the works too - you never know so its always a possibility.

I don't have delusions of grandeur for the blog growing as big as some out there - I just hope to make something I can be be proud of and possibly gain a few readers along the way. We'll see how it goes - keeping looking here to see it take shape.

Since a long time ago, I've played the majority of hentai games (or eroge to some). From 3 Sisters Story, Clannad & Tsukihime to
Let's Meow Meow & Come See Me Tonight. However I've also come to the conclusion that these games have alot in common with anime
series which they are based on as well as other anime series which they have nothing to do with.

Perhaps I am reading too much into this, however I've looked at it in many different ways over the years of playing & watching
them. Or for that matter we (as being westerners) choose to think that the japanese are 'happy' with the majority of the games &
series ending with the classics 'Bad Ending' of all of these or just going for the natural 'True Ending' which is usually also
another way of saying 'Not a bad ending, but not a good ending either so your screwed either way'.

Personally I was touched by the 'True Ending' of Tsukihime, however since they used it in the Lunar Legend Tsukihime anime I was
rather disappointed that they chose this ending to finish the series, after all Type-Moon would of been able to used this as a
franchise (aka: Melty Blood titles &/or Tsukihime/Kagetsu Tohya) but chose close the book on being able to use the cast again in
a sequel to 'LLT' which started to annoy me after a while of watching the series then playing the games then re-watching the
series. Personally I think that they have milked the cow, but why change what works ? They did that with Fate/Stay Night after
Tsukihime took off as being one of the fastest selling Comiket games out there.
It's does however come down to this, the customer or eroge fanatic which goes and buys these sorts of games.

I still think this post isn't complete as yet, however the truth will be told sooner or later once more research is done about these sorta of games & animes are watched, learned from & archived away for the masses.

I may have mentioned to some of you that I wanted loli sleeves for my Yu-gi-oh cards. I may have also mentioned that they are incredibly hard to find.

But they exist.

My friend showed me a shop with loli sleeves. I had many doubts they would have loli sleeves. But, just wow.

See that picture at the top of the post?

Those are now my sleeves for my cards. Aren't they just moelicious? And that's not all. I also have a matching deck box that goes along with them!

*nosebleed*

So awesome.

I'm staring at my box right now. Still can't believe I got them.

In other news, I am addicted to Higurashi (despite the gruesomeness).

Dammit. I can't stop looking at Rika. She's sooooo cute~~.

Ni~pah~~

I really can't wait for Anime Boston. In inclusion with Isumi Saginomiya stuff, I also want Rika Furude stuff!

I am so psyched.

Well. Time to finish up on my studying and possibly play Albatross/Pangya.

I'm so going on a Higurashi-watching marathon after my midterms.

Atractivo visual -100%

Coming late to the party... I had this in the works about two days after the 15th episode of CLANNAD. But other blog stuff + work had put this down on my priorities list. Now that Stripey and Koji Oe put up their imouto-related posts, it's time to revisit this post.

Ni-Pah!

In another wild episode of CLANNAD, episode 15 introduced a new character, Mei Sunohara, who is voiced by Yukari Tamura. Mei is just simply awesome (as proven by the amount of imouto love in the anime blogosphere after episode 16), but her screentime was short lived. Yet, the first thing that goes through my mind when she introduces herself at the end of the episode is that she should've followed up by saying "And this here is my friend, Yuuno-kun." The somewhat unfortunate thing is that Yukari Tamura will always be remembered for voicing Nanoha Takamachi from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha no matter what she does with the remainder of her career. She has attempted to vary it up with other notable character roles such as Sakura Yoshino from Da Capo, Mai Kawasumi from Kanon and Rika Furude from Higurashi. However, one can still hear her signature Nanoha voice in almost all her character roles which is probably a very good thing to stake your seiyuu career on.

Despite Yukari Tamura's various roles, you can always hear plenty of hints in her voice roles that remind you of Nanoha. So why does this occur? Part of it is her voice. You can easily hear the core of her voice in all of her roles and that core voice is what we associate as Nanoha. But a good majority of it is the character of Nanoha. Nanoha Takamachi is one of the most memorable characters in anime. Among the defining features of Nanoha as a character, her childish voice in the first two seasons tends to strike a certain chord within viewers which also seems to reappear in the other characters she voices. It is this association of Nanoha and to her voice which makes it seem that almost all of the Yukari-voiced characters sound like Nanoha.

I tend to pay special attention to the Japanese voice acting and the corresponding seiyuus behind it. Part of it is because I can pick up minor audio things like these. However in my opinion, if you claim to be on the subtitle side of the never-ending sub vs. dub flame war, you should really make the attempt to pay attention to the Japanese voices especially for the shows you like. There is some inherent quality about voice acting which distinguishes the good from the bad and the Japanese have really stressed this with the entire seiyuu industry. Also in my opinion, if you are to completely appreciate or objectively criticize a certain anime series, the show's overall production values must be taken into effect and solid voice acting adds to that complete viewing experience.

So with all that out of the way, I want to highlight some seiyuus that have this kind of voice-character association. It doesn't take away from their abilities to voice act, but it is something interesting to note for future reference. Also I will try to list some that are completely on the opposite side of this and some who seem to be in the middle.

Hear Recognizable Voice, Think Character

Yukari Tamura - Nanoha Takamachi or sometimes Rika Furude/White Devil

Yukari's voice just reeks of the Nanoha. Almost all the small loli girls she voices have that Nanoha core. While her child Rika voice is memorable on its own (Ni-Pah!), Sakura, child Mai and Syuri all sound like Nanoha re-hashes. This doesn't take anything away from her abilities since she does exceptionally well with highly emotional scenes (Sakura in towards the end of Da Capo, Mai in Kanon 2006 episode 14 and Syuri in Myself; Yourself episode 10). She does have a very memorable secondary voice which comes out either in Rika's serious voice or Nanoha's pissed off "White Devil" voice. Yukarin is definitely one of my favorite seiyuu who voice is attached to a few of my favorite characters. (Some Notable Roles: Nanoha Takamachi from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Mai Kawasumi from Kanon, Rika Furude from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Sakura Yoshino from Da Capo)

Along with her main voice, Yukarin' serious voice is something special on its own right. It shows her versatility which helps when voicing the dual-personality character like Rika. But I think Nanoha is just too loved and her main voice is just too attached to it for the rest of her career.

Mamoru Miyano - Light Yagami or sometimes Tamaki Suou

Mamoru-san only really comes in two vocal flavors: genius power-hungry mastermind or loud-talking high school idiot. While some will associate Mamoru's voice with Tamaki and his antics, most will end up remembering Kira. His two highly recognizable voice moments are when his characters scheming and their evil laughs. Mamoru just has that kinda of pimp-sexy bishounen voice which can make the fan-girls go wild (or so I hear). Although Setsuna from Gundam 00 seems to be highly different from his usual sounding roles (then again, Setsuna rarely talks). (Some Notable Roles: Light Yagami from Death Note, Tamaki Suou from Ouran High School Host Club and Setsuna Seiei from Gundam 00)

Jun Fukuyama - Lelouch Lamperouge

It's the Zero voice. It's very recognizable and immediately can be associated with Lelouch. He has that scheming mastermind voice similiar to Mamoru's but memorable in its own right. I haven't seem much of his other voices but when I heard Lawrence from Spice and Wolf, I just couldn't help blurting out "Zero!" Although Masayuki voice in Ghost Hound seems to be quite different. With the coming of Code Geass R2, more and more will relate Jun's voice to Zero. (Some Notable Roles: Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass, Craft Lawrence from Spice and Wolf and Masayuki Nakajima from Ghost Hound)

Hear Recognizable Voice, Think Character Type

Noto Mamiko - shy/quiet girl type

Noto-sama has one of the highly recognizable voices within the Seiyuu industry. She has this signature wispy voice which makes her perfect for voicing the shy/quiet girl type. And with voice roles such as Yakumo, Nodoka and Kotomi (the unofficial mascot of this blog), Noto-sama has a solid career. She does change things up with character types every once in awhile. Interestingly, many would attribute her best voice role as Matsuri, a character on the other side of the quiet girl type. (Some Notable Roles: Yakumo Tsukamoto from School Rumble, Nodoka Miyazaki from Negima, Kotomi Ichinose from CLANNAD and Matsuri Shihou from sola)

Satsuki Yukino - brash girls

Satsuki voices the girls that I consider fun. Between Mi and Shi-chan, Saki and Chidori, that's gun-toting, paper-fan wielding, punch-ready girls she voices. And while those girls are all inherently different, they share the kind of random explosiveness which makes them memorable. This is further helped by her ability to voice these spontaneous moments. Sprinkle with a little bit of tsundere and we have the traditional memorable Satsuki-voiced character. (Some Notable Roles: Mion and Shion Sonozaki from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic and Saki Kasukabe from Genshiken)

Rie Kugimiya - loli tsunderes

Many in the anime lolicon community (in which I make an occasional visit) love Rie-sama. If you like your lolis bratty, with an attitude and with the occasional soft side, chances are you have heard a Rie-sama voiced character in the past few years. Considering that she voices Shana, Nagi and Louise, it's really hard not to notice her signature voice. Even though she does continuously play these bratty lolis, there is still enough variation with the characters she plays that it doesn't become too repetitive. And considering how well her characters in Saimoe, her voice just continues to be popular with this one character type. (Some Notable Roles: Shana from Shakugan no Shana, Nagi Sanzenin from Hayate no Gotoku and Louise from Zero no Tsukaima)

The loli triple threat -Personally, I'll take the one that comes with the hawt maid (Maria is love). Tsunderes with a whip or a sword just isn't my kind of a good time. Although, the tiger in the bedroom just kills all the privacy...

Hear Recognizable Voice, Think Different Characters

Yui Horie

I can never figure out a Hocc-chan voiced character unless someone tells me. She has somewhat recognizable voice. Her voice is not hampered by her own personal abilities, but is hard to recognize due to her voice versatility and various character roles. (Some Notable Roles: Ayu Tsukimiya from Kanon, Eri Sawachika from School Rumble, Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket and Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina)

Aya Hirano

In the beginning of 2006 is was very easy to relate Aya-chan to only one voice. After Lucky Star, I think it's quite safe to say that she is quite capable doing many different voices. She has done enough varying roles to say that she is just more than Haruhi. And her versatility as proven by Konata and Misa, is what make her such a solid seiyuu. (Some Notable Roles: Haruhi Suzumiya from Suzumiya Haruhi, Misa Amane from Death Note, Konata Izumi from Lucky Star)

Yuko Gotou

In many ways, Gotouza-sama's seiyuu career is similar to Aya-chan's . Most will end up remembering meek-sounding Mikuru. But if you take in her older-sounding Mikuru voice and insane Kaede voice, you'll realize that Gotouza-sama has a solid versatile voice. Combine that with her fast-talking Ichiko voice and Gotouza-sama has a complete and notable career. (Some Notable Roles: Mikuru Asahina from Suzumiya Haruhi and Fuyou Kaede from Shuffle!)

Miki Itou

In my opinion, Miki Itou has a really hawt voice. Her voice is easily recognizable even though she tends to have no character types attached to the voice. Her signature voice seems to work well with all the character roles she plays. With voice roles such as Asa and Takano, she is personally one of my favorite seiyuus. (Some Notable Roles: Asa Shigure from Shuffle! and Takano Miyo from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni)

There are plenty of other seiyuu that could also somewhere fit in these moulds (Sugita Tomokazu) and there are seiyuu that I haven't mentioned yet that I absolutely adore (Nana Mizuki). But I'm kinda sick of writing about this topic now as this post sat around unpublished for weeks. I can finally put this to rest and rant about something else. Time for this blog to post another long dissertation in the anime blogger world on Clannad episode 18...

I do not think, that even if I knew how to write a poem, it would make a difference.

So I've been sitting on this one for a while but Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai ひぐらしのなく頃に解 ended a while ago, and as I'd been watching it all along I saw the entire thing. To back up just a bit this was not only the sequel, but the conclusion to the series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. I could bore you with various production and technical details of the series but I'll trust that if you were interested in such things you'd be able to find the information elsewhere. Instead I will share my profuse thoughts on the work itself.

Actually there's just one view I really want to express: it's a lot more fun to watch endless mysteries than to be presented with a singular answer. The original series was filled with the former and the second series "Kai" was made up of the latter. Previously I even said here that I thought it might have been the best anime series of 2007 but not too much farther than halfway through I started to dislike it. In the end it was still a fair series, it's somewhat interesting, and it is nice to have some closure. But I had to walk away thinking "that was what was going on?". If I had to describe the series in one word it would be "anticlimactic".

As to other notes I preferred the original visual style which was admittedly somewhat primitive. Kai just looked too flat and artificial to me. There is a profusion lately of works where nothing actually happens most of the time and instead characters are just plotting and posturing. Death Note (reading the manga I didn't bother to watch the anime) degenerated into such a series but it's common these days. I would say it's a result of the increasingly stagnant nature of people's lives. But maybe everyone is just neurotic?

I have to give the series credit for having a good setting and cast. Although not unique by any means, I am reminded of the works of Kenzaburo Oe in particular, they do stand out in the media of anime. Unfortunately this near uniqueness is about to be overshadowed by the rash of popular or at least high profile series that have similar settings, but I noticed it. That said the problem becomes the true premise as it is revealed in the second series "Kai" and the resolution. An impression that comes to me now is that the series started out so relentlessly that the only way to go from there was to relent.

All this said, I would possibly still recommend the entire Higurashi series. It's really not that the second series Kai is bad, it's just that my expectations were so high, there was no way they could be met for long. I do think that Kai could have easily been only half the length it was, but that's how it goes. It is worth noting that there are a variety of different Higurashi series at this point (the originals being short independent PC games) and perhaps they all have different conclusions and slightly different premises, some of which might be more satisfying for me. I do not know. But I'm talking about the anime version anyway.

Then again if you don't like violence or conspiracies the series probably isn't for you. If you want to see a bunch of kids get killed over and over then maybe it is. I'm not sure what to say about that. In fact saying that makes me feel a bit bad for watching it. And the more I'm thinking about it the more it occurs to me that the conclusion was borne of guilt which is something else I just wrote about.

Conversely I would say that the theme of the series is karma. In fact if I understand oriental religion at all, it was perhaps in fact a representation, maybe not intentionally, of buddhist doctrine. I think that if I said much more I would spoil the series even though it would probably make me look better. Whether or not everything was intentional with that series from the start or not is something that I can't speculate on. But either everything was carefully planned out or it just flew together.

Looking over my old entries under the higurashi category http://reuche.wordpress.com/category/higurashi/ I was reminded of the manga series Belmonde Le VisiteuR as I had written some things about it along with Higurashi on an occasion in particular. I had in fact forgotten about this series since I hadn't noticed anything about it recently. As it turns out the reason for that is that it was apparently canceled after 19 chapters/installments. This does not surprise me. And perhaps later I will try and discover if there was any particular reason for this. The basic premise of the series was "magical french torturer" which I didn't necessarily have a problem with. What I had a problem with is that it it was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump which is an anthology for young boys and as far as I know is still the most widely read publication of its type. I don't know why this series in particular irked me more than the likes of Bleach which is steeped in extreme violence or Death Note which was about being able to kill people by writing their name down but... Something just went off. Then again, I forgot all about it so it's not like it was something I took that much of an issue with. Well above and beyond the nature of the content (magical and deeply psychological torture), the series was just really bad. Everything was really transparent about it, and at the point I quit reading the main character was about to set off on a quest which is just the most god damned... But it's over. I for one will not miss it. And I may or may not look into the reasons for its demise. Seeing as it wasn't any good (the art was fair but pretty nondescript) I think it's just as likely to be utter lack of popularity as anything else, but whatever.

Looks like my random internet surfing has paid off in a big LOL cheque.I admit that I am not familiar with "Higurashi no naku koro ni" or as its written "ひぐらしのなく頃に" since I only watched 1 episode but I remember enough to know what this is. As the commentator said"Drama CD, Higurashinakukoroni ,commercial sket, that final paradise, where are you?"(Sorry if its wrong since I'm not too fluent in Japanese). So here is the translations I did:

Preview with the girl:

This sorrow/unhappiness,the reason it happened,an accident? yes it was an accident...it wasn't as if I was really interested in that..it looked very lively so I just had to go back to...I wasn't the one who made the corpse.Hey why is there a camera running here? You don't have permission,so hurry up and turn it off.Hey someone restrain this guy.Hey are you listening to me?

Note:I dunno if the translation I did for the part above is correct >.< but I think its 80% accurate.I had to cut of a couple of words since I didn't get it too well.

Scene 1:

Ahh its so warm today//Good morning//Ahh you surprized me//Good morning Keiichi-kun, you are awfully early today//*looks dazzling*//Huh...?Why is it when Keiichi looks at me today I feel my heart fluttering?//Umm are you feeling under the weather today Keiichi?//I'm fine as usual how about you?You look different,is it your face or your eyes?//Ahh Keiichi-kun you shouldn't look at a girl so closely like that!!//Looks like there is nothing wrong with you,I'm glad, don't get me worried like that*looks dazzling*//Ahha mmm ehh what's up with you, you're acting strange, what are you trying to do.//Acting strange?*sigh*That hurt my feelings you know.//Sorry,that wasn't what I meant...//haha just joking.I was just teasing you there.Don't tell me you really are sick, are you?//Umm no not really its just that just now Keiichi-kun was...//Me?I'm always the same. And if you were really sick I would definitely be fine with taking care of you, just the two of us.//Just the two of us?*drools*//Besides, actually I....//Ehh what is he saying..what is he saying?//Besides,actually..I feel that if I have you, Rena, I can do anything.//*nosebleed*

Scene 2:

Mi-san!!//Oh morning.// Keiichi-kun is acting wierd!!//What are you babbling about?Wasn't Keiichi-kun always a little wierd to begin with?//What I meant was wierd as in acting very strange.//Ahh he probably just wants to be nice to us for helping him with his injury yesterday, isn't that for the best?//I saw it with my own eyes,Keiichi-kun would never do those things.I saw it.. I saw it ..really//Hmm speaking of Keiichi,it would really be interesting if he suddenly shows up//And here I am, Miyu.(looks dazzling)//Ahh good morning Keiichi...//Ehh Keiichi's smile is so dazzling,I feel like I'm dreaming,my heart is pounding, what is this?//Ahh Keii-chan so did the bandagees work?//Mmm//What kind of bandages did you use?//Being Mi-san's loved one(its a play on words i think)//Ehh !!! wait what is going on?!//Thank goodness, holding you close to me like this,it looks like you are just as energetic as always//I feel that you're prettier this way than how reserved you looked the day before//What are you talking about?!//If I really could have been your loved one that day,I would truly be blessed*nosebleed*

Edit:I'm in the process of double checking my work so bear with me and please help spot mistakes. And I finished part one already after a week lol (^o^).Also I would like to say that I merely translated based on what I heard so I might have made some errors like with misa's dialogue but the general meaning is still there.

Ahh man I'm getting sleepy already..I'll finish it later...since well its hard to make out the super fast dialogue parts and I had to improvise on some of the things they said. Please help me correct my mistakes and probably help me translate the final part of scene 2?For all fans familiar with higurashi can you tell me if I got the names right? If not then I'll do it later.

Also, if you think this is OK then I could try to translate part 2 & 3 as part of my attempt to improve my japanese.

I really don't like anthros that much. In fact, some anthros are kind of creepy. And it really doesn't help that the furry community scares me quite a lot. So, obviously, I wasn't exactly jumping for joy when I found out that the female lead of "Spice and Wolf" was some type of wolf anthro. But nonetheless, Horo is an awesome character. I'd like to call her tsuntsun, but that's not exactly it.

Lawrence is pretty fun as well. I enjoy it when a male harem lead is macho and manly. Although, unless he gets some character development later, I can see how he might get boring fast. The interactions between him and Horo are really entertaining, and the scene when he just meets her is GOLD.

I hope we'll get some more insight on Horo's "other form". All we really saw of it in this episode was a big, white paw where her arm should be. It's quite obvious that it's some sort of wolf-like figure. I really want to know about the implications of this form. Horo makes one small reference that people are scared of her partially because of this form. Are the people just scared because the "other form" looks physically terrifying, or is it something else entirely? And why doesn't she just stay in her anthro-form forever? That way, no one will have to be frightened at all.

The animation is pretty average, and Lawrence's head is out of proportion sometimes. But the music is beautiful. I espicially like the upbeat, happy musicat the end of the episode. Apparently, it seems that during the more onimous, mysterious parts, there is no background music, but just faint cicada chirps. That creates quite an effective effect (Higurashi, anyone?), but I personally think that it would have done a bit better if there actually was some sort of music playing.

Well, all in all, Spice and Wolf has loads of potential. I'll try my best to catch up to the current episodes (I'm around five episodes late, aren't I?)!
