My Unfortunate Paganism

So I am a pagan. Did you know that? I’m sure you didn’t but if you look it up it’

So I am a pagan. Did you know that? I'm sure you didn't but if you look it up it's the coolest thing since Scientology. You should join in, everyone is doing it, check it out!

The term can be defined broadly, to encompass the faith traditions outside the Abrahamic monotheistic group of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Actually, that's not all that impressive. It's just a cop out from calling myself an Atheist, which in my mind is a lot like yelling "Yo' Momma" jokes while walking blindfolded at night. It's also a book smartish way to say that I don't care about religion at all.

It's not that I am anti-religion, I see it's affects and have gained personally from it's various holidays of giving. Christmas, the birthday party of a man I don't believe in has served me VERY well. Annually receiving gifts, without ANY fear of crucification at all. So as many wonder, what has drawn me to a pagan path?

It's not so much that I shut out any religion (though I have slammed doors on missionaries) it's mostly because I was never taught anything biblical or otherwise. I learned a bit about Jesus and God from various religious relatives and pop culture, but for the bulk of my life, I have had no contact with anything holy. I could blame my parents for this, but I'm really not one to blame.

The unfortunate part of this paganism is not so much my eternal damnation, but the realization that I know more about the relative canon of "The Simpsons", than I do about the entire hebrew race of people. I mention The Simpsons mostly for two reasons; 1: I've watched The Simpsons like some people read the bible, and 2: Most of the what I know about Judaeo-Christian religions is based on what I have learned from various episodes of the show.

Most notably, the fact that Krusty the Klown is jewish was a major turning point in my life, in a sense. Before the classic episode, I had no idea what a Bris was, or even who or what a Rabbi was. I always assumed that like The Greatful Dead, ZZ Top had an aging fan base of die hards.

This is a bit embarrassing, considering that I am currently editing a Bat-Mitzvah video (which I now know is a Bar-Mitzvah for girls). Even more embarrassing is that through my entire life, I have only known one practicing jewish person. I know a million and a half different Christians, each with some specific name for their sect, but only one practicing jew!

I assume this is not my fault, small town Alberta isn't really a place where one will find much culture without looking for it, but now that I am in Montreal, I feel a bit out of place. It's the only thing that is really reminding me of my deep redneck roots, that and the pale shade of red that keeps plaguing all attempts at fitting in.

So anyways, my post has become unstructured and I should be making my way in to the weekend. I will leave you with a request; Anonymously (or not) post your religion (or one that you think is super cool) and link me a thing or two that I did not already know about it (assume I know very little, but please challenge me a bit).

Christian religions get 1 point per link, unless they are specifically protestant or catholic facts, then you get 2 points. Anything else gets 2 points, except any religion that adheres to the spiritual governance by animals, that will get you 4 points (5 if the animal is also half human). If your religion involves any form of cannibalism you get 10 points, please provide some type of proof (no pictures).

Finally, you win the contest if you can provide a link to scripture or religious law that explicably contradicts another of it's own laws. (Note: I assume almost every religion does this, and I will assume that ANYONE that can find this flaw in their own religion is truly a winner.) Each point can be redeemed for 1 ounce of pure gold or precious metal of choice, available for pickup in your prescribed afterlife (tell them Jaron sent you).

Florida Healing Outpouring with Todd Bentley: 30 Reasons for Healing (16-30)
27 06 2008

Florida Healing Outpouring with Todd Bentley: 30 Reasons for Healing (16-30)

27 06 2008

First, Roy Fields is back! Others leading has been moving, but there is something about him that changes the atmosphere. Roy, welcome back. Second if you are in Lakeland Fl on the 4th of July there will be free food. From 4-7pm, next Friday there be a celebration with free food. This will also lead into a water Baptism service. I am just thrilled for both of these events. The first shows a desire to reach out to host community and give back to those who have given so much. As important, the second is another example of how Fresh Fire and Ignited are taking care and shepherding those who are making profession of faith under their leadership.

Another fun fact, there is now a medical doctor who is reviewing all the medical reports about healing. The desire for accountability and integrity is great in Lakeland. One of the assistants said there is a four step process for those who take the stage professing healing
1 Pastor volunteers from around the world, screen and test, those who claim to have received healing
2 This is then relayed to those who bring the person on stage, to ensure what is shared is consistent
3 After they are on the platform, a survey is filled out with symptoms, sign of healing and contacts.
4 FOLLOW UP! 1-2 weeks a phone call is made to see how they are doing.

Just some random quotes form Todd Bentley… he really does use the name of Jesus.
(This is just a sample, to show who the glory goes to)

“We are encouraging people to see doctors after healings. I believe in medicine”
“It is the power of Jesus. We are powerless without the power of the Holy Ghost
“Can we give thanks to Jesus for this.”
“We want to give all we can, leally, to the media to give the glory to Jesus.”
“We give all the glory to Jesus”
“Can we give Jesus all the glory tonight?”
while praying for healing, “Two new ankles in Jesus mighty name”

30 Reasons for Healings #16-30 (all verses NIV)

16. He does what he pleases – God is sovereign and healing happens because God chooses too.
17. Charitable Giving- (whole chapters but verses) Acts 9: 36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor and Acts10:2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. Based on these verses miracles happens as a direct result of charitable giving. It would seem that when we take care of the pour, God reaches and extra measure of the miracles.
18. The Gospel – Mark 16:19-20 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. Healing is good news and, according to Todd, the Gospel is the power of God as well as the message of salvation
19. I am a friend of God’s – John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. God hears the prayers of His friends. What do you do for your “true” friends? The deeper the intimacy with God, the deeper the friendship. Is God your friend, because there seems to be many who understand Jehovah but do not understand Abba. Abba, is the characteristic of a deep personal relationship.
20. The Glory of God – John 11:4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”
21. The cures of the Law – Romans 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Healings show that you free from the law of sin and death.
22. Desperation: Mark 5:27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, Sometime people need a touch so bad they push trough to get it. “if only this small amount” They are the ones who are desperate enough to reach out and get healed

23. Connection locked up

24. Name of God – Exodus 15:26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

25. Communion – 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. This would seem to be a reason why you are not, but if it bring sickness maybe it bring healing (my thought on it, time was short so the last were real quick)

26. Gift of the Spirit- There was no verse give to justify this, but 1 Corinthians12:9-109to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

27. The name of Jesus – Triune God, Jesus is God see #24

28. The nature of the Holy Spirit – God creates when the Holy Spirit the Holy Spirit moves. It was after Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. That God said, “Let there be light.” IF the Spirit lives with us, then he is moving, we should expect creation (new body parts is creation).
29. I am Saved – James 5:15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Faith is a gift of the Spirit and only saved people have this. So salvation, brings faith, faith brings healing. And, yes because Jesus forgave my sins.
30. Kingdom of God- Mathew 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. There is no sickness in the Kingdom, God preformes creation in His kingdom, there are miricals in the Kingdom, let it be so here

These are the second half of the 30 reasons, each with scripture refrances. People you may not like Todd Bentley, but please be careful arguing against the word of God. For those around Todd, let him know I said “thanks for the teaching, it has meant a lot to me.”

On a personal note: I blew out my knee today, while walking down some stairs. It hurt to move or even put pressure on it. Tonight, during the broadcast, I WAS HEALED. Proof of this, I wrote this whole blog standing up.

http://allenwilson.wordpress.com/2008/06/27/florida-healing-outpouring-with-todd-bentley-30-reasons-for-healing-16-30/

THE WAY MANY FUNDAMENTAL EVANGELICAL AND SUPPOSEDLY PROFESSING CHRISTIAN CRITICS TRY TO MAKE FUN AT OTHER CHRISTIANS IS SICKENING, A VERY POOR THEOLOGY AND IS SADLY NOW ALSO TYPICAL OF THE MUCH TOO OFTEN FALSE BASHING OF THE PENTECOSTALS TOO!

http://hiscrivener.wordpress.com/2008/06/28/faith-healers-could-encounter-a-setback-at-the-altar/

"“are you ranting”… my how you like to bash, insult people.. you do not know them even well enought to falsely even try to judge them, your apporach is quite immature and unspiritual too.. looking for a big fight cause someone had stepped on your sore toes.. I certainly hope you do not profess wrongfully to be a Christian to anyone, cause you do not act like it for sure… nor do I hope you abuse all the people like that who make a post here.. a sure way to next lose many people still too. Stay in God’s love and not rather in the flesh.. we may not agree, do have a right to differ, but we still do need to show love to the others.Need more input from me on the subjects.. I have it detailed even on 5 internet sites.. "

It is very clear that the much too many false Critics of the Pentecostals will try to grasp at any straws to falsely bash the Pentecostal and still try to justify their immoral acts.. Any Christian being plagued with critics, opponents, unsubstantiated personal attacks too now, is really nothing new even to the past apostles, prophets , Jesus Christ himself who have face many similar bullies, groups etc., the devil is too ready an accuser of the Brethren, and tries to continually discredit any work of God even since the time of Jesus Christ himself now too even using inapplicable and distorted Biblical reasons and Bible verses now too I also would not take any criticism even seriously by persons who admittedly even admit they are opposed to all charismatic’s gifts, speaking in tongues included, and the persons who do not acknowledge even themselves now having never received a clear, specific baptism of the Holy Spirit firstly, and also especially when also they themselves have not attended these meetings, or the meetings any of of the latter rain churches.. A MAJORITY OF THE CRITICS OF THE LATTER DAY REVIVALS, are too clearly their often diverting back wrongfully the topic discussions, making often personal insulting, unacceptable derogatory remarks is even THEIR typical unChristlike bulling Reponses, self righteous, a superiority attitude, and what else? is not the right approach from anyone and it does continue to reflect poorly on ALL OF THEM STILL too… THE WAY THEY THEMSELVES DO UNDENIABLY POINT FINGERS AT THEIR SELF DEFINED OPPONENTS, IN A JUDGMENTAL MANNER, UNLOVING, UNKIND, UNJUSTIFIABLE MANNER IS CLEARLY THE MORE IMPORTANT ISSUE NOW TOO. And very revealing what they are firstly like themselves

"I have read in the last month every wordpress site, and many others sites openly bashing, abusing, slandering the Florida revival, Todd, the latter day Pentecostals and yet to date I personally have not read, seen one valid criticism, decent presentation at all.. what a great shocker.. It all seems more like little immature, jealous kids still fighting over which one of them will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven and who will be last.. what a real absurdity.

Don't get desperate but get real... like I have rightfully said I also would not take any criticism even seriously by persons who admittedly even admit they are opposed to all charismatic’s gifts, speaking in tongues included, and the persons who do not acknowledge even themselves now having never received a clear, specific baptism of the Holy Spirit firstly, and also especially when also they themselves have not attended these meetings, or the meetings of any of the latter rain churches..

I did not say Charismatic supposedly churches.. cause we know those often mean rather the Catholic Pentecostals..

as to what the Bible says is only how you here do interpret it.. not the Holy Spirit.

I have been a Christian for 50 years and a Pentecostal pastor for the last 30 years, and I have attended the latter day churches too and often.. and specifically what about you? not the supposed others..

The Latter Rain movement was rejected by the AoG Pentecostals in 1948 as heretical... and they are speaking for God now.. dream on.. There are other pentacostal denominations who support them, approve of them, me included.

The full Gospel Business Men's fellowship uses a similar approach for decades now too.

many persons bashing other Pentecostals with clearly a hidden agenda is still the wrong thing to do now too.. they are not doing it in love or humility Cleary as required by the Bible now too. "

Evangelical Fundamentalism too often also replaces the worship of God , the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ with the sole worship of the Bible, bypassing the works of the Holy Spirit it seems, though most Fundamentalists will deny that. Liberalism, too, replaces the worship of God, and of the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ with the worship of something else. In the case of Liberalism, however, the worship of God was replaced by the worship of mere human reason , and both groups are not that far apart, for they are are in error.

Fundamentalists worship every word and letter in the Bible. Actually, they worship their own private interpretation of scripture (compare 2 Peter 1:20). This is the same error that the Pharisees fell into. They ended up worshiping Torah more than God, and, even more than Torah, they worshiped their own interpretations (and the interpretations of the elders) of Torah. (They still do so today, only now they have codified those traditions into the Talmud.) Likewise, so do Fundamentalists worship their own interpretation of Scripture. In both cases, “they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.” (Romans 1:25).

Fundamentalists and Liberals too need to learn the truth of 2 Corinthians 3:6, “Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” They need to seek God in SPIRIT and in Truth. Liberals need to learn the truth of John 4:23 (quoted above) and of John 6:63, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” They need to seek God in Spirit and in TRUTH. http://jmm.aaa.net.au/articles/12941.htm

   http://anyonecare.wordpress.com/2008/06/29/hard-to-tell-the-difference/

Reality! These days it is too hard to tell the difference between secular persons and even evangelical pastors, they seem to do the same bad things too

And when I see shallow arguments of anyone still limiting today as to what God can do, even through us, EVEN ABOUT HEALING, it makes me rightfully also think how shallow their Christian faith now really is.. they are still babies in the Lord and need someone to teach them the whole truth, the whole , full gospel too, for my God can do anything, Jesus is the same , yesterday, today and forever.

ON TOP OF THAT I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW SO MANY OF THESE SAME PERSONS PERSONS ALSO FALSEY RISE TO DEFEND SMOKING, WINE, ALCOHOL AS WELL AND WORKFULLY DENY IT IS SINFUL.. "Spurgeon was once asked when he would quit smoking cigars. He replied, “When it becomes a problem.” He was then asked, “When will it become a problem?” To which he replied, “When I smoke two at a time.” AND look at all the false justifications for Spurgeon’s sin.. and do see also alcoholism the unacceptable sin

When you talk about what the scriptures says you honestly should also point out that you mean it is how you now interpret what the scripture says.. cause too many of us read different things out of the same scriptures as we all do know firstly..

The people who also tell us to use only the Bible often still lie further to us.. they ask us also to use men’s commentaries, instead of the Holy spirit to next interpret the Bible.

(Eph 4:18 KJV) Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

I tend to look at both sides of the issues myself.. for that matter I have now been both non Christian, and Christian, both Baptist and Pentecostal, and both groups still do have major errors, weakness, inadequacies, and they now also have some good points too.. but still there is no such thing as a perfect denomination now as well

But one other thing often is clearly is evident to me visiting, reading the many so called Professing Christians sites mostly all telling us the supposed truth, postings often more with dishonest hidden agendas, poorly researched too, very biased now too.. It also seems to me they are also still are trying to convince themselves as to what is the truth is and no one else, they build up their own false straw arguments, and then do reply to their own arguments. It is generally too often now not an honest presentation, discussion of the topic they have presented.

http://slaughteringthesheep.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/todd-bentley-gets-annointed-by-special-oil-from-africa/

>>Pastors are going there by the droves. I know one personally. He went to Toronto to bring some of “it” back and he’s done the same thing with Lakeland. I think he thinks this will be the answer to filling the seats in his church, "

Did he really tell you that or are you in truth distorting, lying, falsely judging him and many others cause you are a controling person ?

I see nothing wrong in going there and I am real Christian now too

http://christiantheology.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/depart-from-me-i-never-knew-you/

The nonconformer replied "I never knew you, is not a criticism by Jesus that the healings, miracles done by the person(s) were false.. but a true statement that they really never knew Jesus fully or personally, it seems to apply to you now firstly too.

You are so sensitive to others being supposedly false, cause you clearly are false, now take the beam out of your own eye first.. Someone is wrong here and I don’t think it is that difficult (except perhaps for you) to determine who that is and that is you.. for you do twist Bible verses, slander, falsely quickly bash others to suit your own views..

Clearly Judas was an Apostle, better look at the definition of an Apostle, an Apostle is not an unchristian person.. and he was next replaced in the book of acts by another Apostle. The fact that Jesus knew that Judas would betray him does not mean he was not anointed.. but first better look at the meaning of the word anointed now.. one who evidences the Holy spirit.. with signs and wonders Acts 10:38

If you do not let the Holy spirit lead you as to what a verse actually means you are part of the Blind leading the blind now, forget trying to say the scripture cannot be wrong, rather you are wrong.. "You throw the term free will around as if it does not need to be defined. " and yet you clearly in desperation rebuttal quoted back a verse that has nothing to do with one's free will.

"You have contradicted now three times the Word of Jesus," and what a further false and wrong, judgmental act on your part too, you so easily condemn a person whom you do not know, never met, another real Christian, a real christian now over 50 years too, and I have been pastoring now for over 3 decades as a Pentecostal pastor too. So get a real life. Really do get Jesus."

Why is it so many people try too limit the power of God, and they work so hard to try to tell us what God can and cannot do today.. for sure, definitely it is not only cause they are spiritually immature, have a hidden agenda, are promoting themselves, or they are unoriginal parrots who repeat what others have said , but it is often still mainly because Satan for sure is behind all this too.

Evangelical fundamental parrots often need to quote someone else cause they do not know the Holy spIrit well enough to let him lead them, even the truth about healing. I SPEAK FOR MYSELF. http://pbulow.tripod.com/healing.html

God has a hissy fit. He still hasn't learned to stay out of Hebrew affairs
Leviticus 26:27-34
" 'If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings. I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled. I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins."

1 Chronicles 21:14
"So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men." These were innocents by the way.

Somehow I'm missing the love here.

Hosea 13:16
"The people of Samaria must bear the consequences of their guilt because they rebelled against their God. They will be killed by an invading army, their little ones dashed to death against the ground, their pregnant women ripped open by swords." I think I'm going to be sick here. Are we seeing the love yet?

These, of course, are just a few of the scriptures that illustrate the love that courses throughout the OT part of the Bible. How people can read past these things and not be suspicious of the supposed God behind them is beyond me.

Is it any wonder that Paul, in his New Testament takeover, quickly steers the focus of the faithful away from this Old Testament Ogre, and into the different world vision of his supposed encounter with Jesus on the road (in a beam of light) to Damascus. Using the established OT world vision that many/most people of that culture were acquainted with, and building a new mythology, a new religion based on a kinder, gentler God image. Jesus...a God of Love...yea, that's the ticket. Well, he didn't really work out Jesus being God...that had to wait until the Catholics got into power. The early theology was a little rough and had to be tweaked a bit to make it more believable

I think Paul was looking around at all the religious fervor going on in his time, and got to thinking that if he could somehow meld the established OT religion (which Jesus was espousing) into the new mold of a milder spiritual personality that didn't go around killing, raping, and torturing ...he just might achieve lifetime employment for himself. The apostles didn't seem to be doing much with their inheritance, why not fudge a little and scoop up this opportunity and run with it.

The concept of ‘original sin' was pure genius on his part. Oh, the possibilities of this for sermons, placing guilt on the masses, and solidifying his place in history. A new concept that heretofore was not even thought of or mentioned in OT writings, or by Jesus, and he was able...by himself... to get it accepted by the theologians and common folk. What a guy.

All Israel Shall Be Saved?
by Steve Wohlberg
Romans 11:26 says, “And so all Israel will be sav

All Israel Shall Be Saved?

by Steve Wohlberg

Romans 11:26 says, "And so all Israel will be saved." What does this mean?

Obviously, it doesn't mean every Jew will be saved. In fact, the same chapter says God hopes to "save some of them" (vs. 14). Judas was a Jew, yet we know he will be lost for betraying Christ. Jesus called him, "the son of perdition" (John 17:12). Jesus told many Jews, "If you do not believe I am He [the Messiah], you will die in your sins" (John 8:24). Not every Jew believes in Jesus Christ, thus many will "die in their sins" and be lost.

Many Christians today interpret Romans 11:26 as applying to the end of the seven-year tribulation when Jesus appears in the clouds at His Second Coming. In other words, they don't apply the verse to all Jews throughout history, but only to "all Jews" who are alive at the end. Supposedly, at the end of the tribulation, all remaining Jews in Israel will look up, see Christ coming in the clouds, realize He is the true Messiah, believe in Him, and thus "All Israel will be saved."

This is a false teaching, as I will attempt to show.

First, the context of Romans 11 is not the Second Coming.

"There is no partiality with God" (Romans 2:5-11). It would be an act of partiality to save "all Jews" at the end, but not "all Jews" in history. The idea is, "When all final Jews see Christ coming in the clouds, then they will believe." But this would give those final Jews a supposedly irresistible opportunity to believe in Jesus Christ which past Jews have not had. Nor would this be fair to "all Gentiles" living at the end. Why would God save all Jews at the end but not all Gentiles? All Gentiles will see Jesus coming just like all Jews.

When Christ finally appears in the clouds, IT'S TOO LATE TO BELIEVE IN HIM. Rev. 22:11,12 says that before He comes in the clouds, all decisions have already been made. Jesus said it will be like Noah's day (Mat. 24:37-39). In Noah's day the door of the ark closed before the flood came (Gen. 7:16). When the flood came, it was too late. To save all Jews AT THE SECOND COMING would be like saving all those outside the ark WHEN THE RAIN STARTED FALLING.

When Jesus comes in the clouds, this is the time of judgment upon ALL unbelievers who don't know God nor obey the gospel (2 Thess. 1:7-10; Jude 14,15).

So what does this mean, "All Israel shall be saved"? First of all, Romans 9:6 says there are two Israels. one is an Israel according to the flesh (Romans 9:3,4) and the other is the Israel of God (Galatians 6:14-16). The Israel of God is composed of both Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:29). Gentiles who believe are grafted in. They become part of the "same body" with believing Jews (Eph. 3:6). Paul calls this unity of believing Jews and Gentiles, "the mystery of Christ" (Eph. 3:4).

The immediate context of Romans 11:26 is vs. 25. When "the fullness of the Gentiles has come in," then "all Israel will be saved." Or, to be exact, "And so all Israel will be saved." In other words, the coming in of the fullness or total number of the Gentiles results in "all Israel" being saved. Paul's idea seems to be that when all Gentiles (totally, throughout history) have come in, that is, have been grafted into the Vine, they, uniting with all Jews who have become believers, will form the total number of the saved. Paul also reveals that when Gentiles come in, God can use this to motivate some Jews to believe (verses 11 & 14). Vs. 25 calls this whole thing, "this mystery," which we have already proven to be the "mystery" of both Jews and Gentiles being united in one body through Christ (Eph. 3:4,6). Vs. 27 says all are saved because Christ takes away their sins through His covenant, which must be the New Covenant, which applies to all believers, Jew and Gentile. Thus the "all Israel" that is saved is the total group of believing Gentiles and Jews combined.

The "all Israel that is saved" does not apply to all Jews throughout history, nor can it apply to a select favored group who become instant believers when Jesus Christ comes crashing down through the sky. By that time, it is too late to believe.

The Hebrew side of wedding invitations are the biggest waste of time. Besides for the point that invitations themselves are overrated (they make good dustpans when I can’t find mine), the only part anyone reads is the names to see if the chosson or kallah are hiding any embarrassing second names, like Yenta, Shprintzy, or my friend’s name, Geesa. Don’t know why people feel obligated to disclose their names in their invitations. There is no rule, or halacha of the sort, it’s not a kesubah…

In any case, nobody reads the Hebrew, yet some people, or actually most people make the biggest shtink over it. I know, because I worked as a secretary/typesetter/graphic artist in a Jewish printing press for a year. People agonize over the wording, the font, the layout.
Location On Body: Right ankle band

Shop Location: Santa Ana, CA

How Long It Took: 1 hour

This was my first tattoo at Sid's in OC. The words in hebrew mean house of God. It is the phrase that is used in the Old Testament that refers to the tabernacle and in the New Testament that refers to the body. There's two main things that I was going through at this point. One is the idea of merging as opposed to divorcing the old and new testaments. This is one of the first times in my life that I started to realize that the two were not only connected but saying the same thing. The second is in trying to come to grips with what it means that our body is the temple of God and what it means to be a good

[caption id="attachment_208" align="alignright" width="180" caption="YAWEH"][/caption]

steward of that. As far as the design, I had some hebrew student from a bible college give it to me because evidently he was planning on getting the same thing. When he gave it to me though the two words were on top of each other and the tattoo artist thought that one of the vowel points went on the top of the second word instead of the bottom of the first. This was easily covered up by extending one of the points on the letters though.

[caption id="attachment_279" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="This is Rob. The guy who tattooed me."][/caption]

This tattoo has provided quite a bit of conversation. People ask if I am into music or if I am Jewish. I'm never really quite sure how to answer the second especially to a Jew. I always feel like they feel like I'm ripping off or taking advantage of their text in a way that it was never intended too. Last year at our fourth of July BBQ our Jewish neighbor told me how to pronounce the words on my leg. That was kind of cool. The only thing is that the word for God that is tattooed they believe you are not allowed to say so she told me that it says Adonai instead of YAHWEH. Because I still have a pretty strong conviction about the reasons I got this tattoo and because hebrew is baddass looking I am rating this:

Joey went and talked to Ms. Coover-Cox today and she said that she'd totally make room for me in the class. (I'm wait-listed right now because the class is full.) So...one month from now I could be in class. Oy. I'm not sure I'm ready for this.

I’ve always been deathly afraid of rejection. In high school, I had some of the most intricate plans about how to get the gorgeous Jewish girl who I’d talked to a few times in a junior high drama class to go out with me. I would have daydreams of learning Hebrew and going to temple, with the goal of converting to her great faith. I would of course do this behind her back, because a big part of the plan involved me running into her, as if by accident, at temple one day, her curly hair shining in the evening sun, my payos perfectly complimenting my already spectacular beard. I would look her longingly and say “your eyes shine more beautifully than the miraculous consecrated olive oil that burned for eight days during the rededication of the Temple after the revolt of Judah Maccabee.” But, of course, I would say it in Hebrew. She would melt, fall madly in love with me, and we would live happily and Semitically ever after.

Naturally, I never put this plan into action. I could never get over the possibility that she might still not want me, even after my going through all the trouble of conversion. And then what? I was a hopeless romantic dreamer, but I was fairly practical.

Looking back on my life, I realize that I’ve probably missed out on a lot of opportunities for growth because I was too afraid of the unknown. If I had gone through with any of my hair-brained plans, at the very least, I would have a lot more experience with trying and failing under my belt than I do now.

It was thoughts like these that inspired me to really sit down and think about things I’ve always wanted to do, but have been too afraid to, for whatever reason. Here’s what I came up with:

1) Go to the Middle East and tell them all to “cool the fuck out.”

2) Run for public office, preferably for the office of “Recorder of Deeds.”

3) Track down the aforementioned Jewish girl and dust off that old plan to see if it would work.

4) Take over the city of Danville and turn it into my own personal fiefdom.

5) Go see the World’s Largest Pecan, which is located just down the road in Brunswick, Missouri (that pecan weighs 12,000 pounds!).

6) Submit a list to McSweeney’s website.

I looked over this list, and realized that most of them were slightly out of my reach at the time being, mostly due to my lack of transportation, and lack of a “war chest.” However, submitting a list was something that I could do, and doing so could possibly kick up some exposure for this here blog.

I kicked the idea around for a while, and came up with a good list. Having read McSweeney’s for a while now, I know damn well that their lists are pretty much entirely driven by their titles. The title is the joke, and the list is usually very disappointing. Here’s what I came up with:

Names of Feminist Authors Featured In My Summer School Class on Women's Literature If They Had Chosen To Dedicate Their Lives To Promoting Awareness of Oral Hygiene Instead of Promoting Awareness of the Plight of Women

-Charlotte Perkins Gil-Man Who Always Remembers to Brush and Floss

-Edith Whar-Tongue Care and Hygiene

-Toni Morri-Sonicare Vibrating Toothbrush

-Sylvia Plaque

Now, I accept that this isn’t the best list anyone’s ever made, but I deemed it good enough to submit. Well surprise of surprises, I got an email today informing me that, while the list was fun, they were going to pass on it.

I was heartbroken. I decided to head over to McSweeney’s and check out what lists they decided to publish instead. I was sure that I would find some gems, some truly hilarious and cleverly put together lists, and that discovery would make it easier to accept my rejection.

What I found instead was a bunch of fairly decent lists, and a couple of abysmal, pointless ones. I don’t know what I can and can’t quote from their site, but there is a particularly bad list about 30 different rocks that I know is inferior to mine.

Ironically, this experience, now that I’ve had a little time to wrestle with it, has been very illuminating. I think back on my days pining for that Jewish girl in high school, and I realize that after I didn’t make my move, she started dating a really douchy guy. I realize that there are a lot of parallels to my current situation. If I had asked her out, she probably would have turned me down, and ended up dating that douche anyway. My actions would most likely not have made any difference on the ultimate end result. I put my hat into the ring by submitting my list, I was rejected, and a douchey list was published instead.

In the end, I’ve learned a very valuable lesson: don’t try. Also, I’ve learned that if you do try and you fail, it’s a lot easier to claim that whoever rejected you is shortsighted or flawed than it is to accept that maybe your list just wasn’t that good or that you were unattractive and a pretty big loser in high school.

Alright, this is getting a little too cathartic. I’d better just end this here, I’ve got a lot of Hebrew to study tonight.

Once one of the election of grace (or God’s elect) gains in wisdom, they see the wrongs in per

Once one of the election of grace (or God's elect) gains in wisdom, they see the wrongs in perceptions of God's word and His ways. They also wish to correct those who've been taught things that are so wrong they cannot fathom how people believe in what they believe. This is something on many, I should say most subjects they cannot do though. God has given everyone but the election of grace the spirit of slumber. At the very most there can only be seven thousand of the election of grace on Earth today. It's written in Romans 11 that God reserved to Himself 7000 men (and women) for the last generation. Paul states on his own that some have lived who were of the election of grace but there are seven thousand that are reserved for the last generation. There will be more of God's elect living in the last generation than at any time in this age's history because of their importance. God's election isn't every Christian like many teachers like to teach. The number of them is written right there, isn't it? It's there for a reason. Those are the same 7000 who meet their destiny in Revelation 11:13. The same seven thousand. At that time their jobs will be done.

There will be a time when one of the election of grace realizes they cannot share the wisdom God has given them but on a few things. The proof of this is many things written in the Bible. When the elect are in the synagogue of Satan, they really don't answer questions with the wisdom they'll have. They'll put things in a way that no one can gainsay or argue against. The Holy Spirit will speak for them but it's apparent that questions that are asked of them won't be totally answered. Their wisdom will be just as apparent plus they will have all amazed at their ability to communicate to everyone's native language. Proof they are sent by God.

Jesus was asked by his disciples why he speaks to everyone else in parables. Jesus said to them that because of who the people are he cannot speak openly so he speaks in parables. Only to the disciples can he speak openly to. The reason was because they were of the election of grace. He was able to tell them everything. In a previous blog I pointed out that in Matthew 24:3 when the disciples privily came to Jesus asking for the signs of his coming and the end of the world, that the word "world" really in the original Greek is the word "αιων" (ahee-OWN). Αιων actually means "age". Not world. They were not asking for signs of the end of the world, but the end of the age instead. How did they even know to ask for signs of the end of the age? Because Jesus taught them about the ages of our creation.

Being one of the election of grace, I would like to say everything on subjects in God's word, but I cannot. Only after the blowing of the seventh trump will God's mystery be finished. That is when the spirit of slumber is lifted so this creation can have the best choice possible. At that time all will know who Satan is and know God's word is true, but with Satan's ability to play on every human weakness that will be multiplied at that time will it be such a difficult choice. When Jesus returns, no human will be judged upon permanently except for those who make the right choice. Read the blog "There Is A Difference Between Heaven And Everlasting Life" and see what I mean by that.

It's tough to know what is right and what God really means on things but holding it back. If one of God's elect decides to share everything they know, people will not react to it in a positive way. They'd say "how can you go against the interpretations of hundreds of years by thousands of men? What makes you think you're right and all of them are wrong?" That kind of conversation will get no one anywhere. Centuries ago people would be chastized for blasphemy or heresy for teaching God's word in its true form. Prophets were killed for doing just that. The prophets were right and the murderers and true heretics were wrong, but one prophet is but one prophet. Going against the grain amongst thousands of people is perceived as wrong to the thousands of people.

The election of grace are the prophets of any era, including this one. If this is the last generation then there are 6999 others on Earth at this time. Many have not answered their call as of yet, but they will. They have to. God will not let them fail. They may not give the all of the answers you seek, but have faith in why they cannot. Don't be discouraged as to why God has given you the spirit of slumber. He is God and He has His reasons. Have faith in that as well. Gain in wisdom and faith, which everyone is allowed to do, so you can make the best choice when that choice is brought to you. If this generation is the last one, then the only way to avoid that choice and the hardships of the Tribulation Period is by death alone. There is no rapture.

I started learning Hebrew six years ago. My first teacher was the father of one of my pupils. He taught me how to read the letters and then we started on the parsha straight away. I was learning along with his wife and two of his daughters. It was a fantastic experience and it was good to be confronted with the text so soon.

Then the family moved to Paris and I joined a course for beginners at the local university. I drove there every thursday and had a two hour lesson with a group of other people. There were about eight of us. The aproach was different - more systemeatic - and this time we were learning modern Hebrew from a textbook. Yet the teacher was patient, kind and conscientious which made the course pleasant and worthwhile. I felt that I was learning and improving. We also had exams and I meant to go on like this for a few years.

Unfortunately the next year was far from being as positive. We still had the same teacher (but only for an hour) and we had a new teacher. The problem when you are a language teacher yourself is that you can tell how a course has been devised as well as if there is clear planning behind what you are being taught.

Obviously this new teacher was not as careful as the other one about what she wanted us to learn and how. It is useless to go into the details of what was wrong with this part of the course but the unfortunate result was that I quit.

The other regrettable outcome is that I no longer learn Hebrew on a systematic basis. I pray in Hebrew and sometimes check a word to make sure I get the overall idea of what I am saying but this is far from enough. Sadly my hometown is too small and there is no rabbi in residence so nobody to learn with. I still feel however that I greatly need to improve but am not sure how.

Tyndale has a nice set of Unicode fonts that you can download with instructions at this link. This converts your keyboard into having Greek and Hebrew fonts. There is a little keyboard icon next to the microphone icon on that thin blue bar in windows. I keep mine to the left hand side and auto hide it. I find I can fit more open windows on it and still be able to read what they are all in less space if you drag it from the bottom of your windows desktop to the side. On that blue bar there are some icons you may have never paid much attention to (a keyboard, microphone, etc). Here is a picture of what I am talking about (again, your is probably horizontal on the bottom of your desktop - I like mine pulled to the side which makes it vertical

The little keyboard icon over the microphone is for keyboard options (including adding other languages). This is where the Tyndale fonts will be accessed from. I am including a second picture below to show you the language options and how to click on them once you have installed the tyndale fonts. Another way to use them (and much faster) is through a keyboard shortcut that toggles between English, Greek, and Hebrew. All you have to do is while you are typing hit Ctrl+Shift and you will toggle first from English to Greek and if you hit it again from Greek to Hebrew and again from Hebrew back to English. By doing this you can use Greek and Hebrew fonts even while blogging. So here goes:

John 1:1 - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

John 1:1 - "εν αρχη ην ο λογος και ο λογος ην προς τον θεον και θεος ην ο λογος

Genesis 1:1 - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Genesis 1:1 - "ברַשִית ברַא אֶלֹהִים אֶת הַשָׁמִַים ואֶת הֶָָרֵז

I am still working on the accents and pointing but with some work it can be done. This can be a really helpful way of using Greek and Hebrew in blogging without having to transliterate it.

Here is the picture of the keyboard options:

What language did Jesus speek?

Paarsurrey answers:

Hi

Jesus and his mother Mary were Jewish religious people; they spoke Hebrew or Aramaic. The languages of the common inhabitants of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus were Hebrew or Aramaic; and they were addressees of Jesus. So Jesus spoke one of these languages only then his message could reach the masses that Jesus was set to purify.

In no case Jesus' language was Latin or Greek; while we find the scriptures or NTBible in Latin or Greek languages which means the originals if any were lost or were non-existent and what we have now is translations only or that these have been written much afterward and most probably were not an account of the eyewitnesses of the account of Jesus' life or Mary's life. The disciples of Jesus were also Jews and hence they spoke Hebrew or Aramaic.

Paul was not a disciple of Jesus; he was not trained or educated by Jesus; he was an enemy of Jesus and his disciples and his own testimony is on record.

"Eli, Eli Lima sabaqtani" the only surviving words from Jesus mouth on Cross are of Hebrew; that proves undoubtedly that Jesus spoke Hebrew.

Thanks

Tattoos: desecration or decoration? The New York Times looks into the views Jewish people hold regarding tattoos.

According to this article, Jews have long been told the adage "If you get a tattoo, you can’t be buried in a Jewish cemetery." However, some Jews in their 20s and 30s are deciding that tattoos are not as taboo as they once were. Rabbis disagree about how bad it is to get inked.

Marshal Klaven, a rabbinical student, said: "When Leviticus was written, tattooing was largely a pagan practice, done to mark slaves or to show devotion to a pharaoh." Since tattooing has evolved, he thinks the rule may be outdated.

But Rabbi Alan Bright disagrees, saying Deuteronomy 4:15 commands Jews to take care of their bodies.

Andy Abrams, a filmmaker, has spent five years making a documentary called “Tattoo Jew.” In his interviews with dozens of Jews with body art, he’s noticed the prevalence of Jewish-themed tattoos. Abrams said:

“The people I interviewed are trying to express their Judaism, or connect with God or their Jewish roots. They’re taking this prohibited act and using it to feel more Jewish.”

A pro-tattoo community is emerging online. "Jews with Tattoos" is a Myspace group dedicated to people with tattoos that symbolize the Jewish faith.

In ancient Hebrew culture children were of supreme importance. A child was considered one of the gre

In ancient Hebrew culture children were of supreme importance. A child was considered one of the greatest blessings God could give. They were means of passing on one's identity, heritage and lineage. They were tied to the covenant promises (Gen 15:5). They were connected with obedience to the law (Exodus 20:12). They were lauded as blessings of great significance in the psalms (127 &128).

When a son was born to a Hebrew family they would circumcise him on the eighth day and give him his name at that time. For daughters they would typically wait 30 days until they gave her a name. Names were of the utmost significance and were filled with meaning and vision casting for the child's future. Even today we don't meet many Jezebell's of Judas's because of the connotations that come with those names. Hollywood has certainly had a fun time with baby names but for the ancients a name was part of who you are.

In scripture we find people who were given a new name at critical moments of their lives (Abram, Jacob, Simon, and Saul). There is another man whose name was changed and one we don't often associate with that. His name was Joseph and he was a Levite from Cyprus. We first read about him in Acts 4:36-37 as he was among the first to sacrificially give to the growing group of Jerusalem Christians. The apostles gave him a nickname. They called him Bar-nabas (son of - encouragement). It could be that this great act of generosity recorded in Acts 4 was the occasion that influenced the apostles to give him a nickname. Bar-nabas doesn't show up again until Acts 9 in the story of another man who received a new name - Saul Paul (although some think his name may have actually been Saul Paul (See Dunn's Galatians Commentary). After Saul's conversion he came to Jerusalem (Acts 9:26) where the disciples were not very quick to warm up to this former persecutor of the church. Guess who stepped in? Joseph (a.k.a the Son of Encouragement) who became an advocate for Saul and brought him to the apostles and convinced them of the legitimacy of Saul's conversion. Notice what happened when a man known for his gift of encouragement came into a controversial situation and gave his support to the unpopular Saul. Saul gained acceptance where he would have otherwise found none. Encouragers believe the unbelievable and get others to believe it too! When everyone else is being critical and negative encouragers see the possibilities. They see the potential. Joseph spoke up for Paul and the rest is history.

Did you know that in the list of gifts from God (teaching, prophesying, serving, and giving) that encouragement is listed? (Rom 12:4-8). Encouragement comes from God because God is a God of encouragement. That is part of his nature. When we get to heaven do you think he is going to meet us at the gate and be Mr. Gloomy Gus? I don't think so. What is he going to say? "Well done...enter in." That sounds pretty encouraging to me! Jesus was an encourager. We are to be Bar and Bat Nabases because that is being like our Father.

When I ran track at Harding I wasn't the best runner in the world. I was a walk on and enjoyed the camaraderie. I was a little faster than one of our world class female runners so I often helped train her to help her get faster but I also decided my role was to be an encourager. When my race was done I would spend the rest of the time running to and fro yelling words of encouragement. I would run across the infield to one of our runners in a race and yell at them, "You can do it! Run faster! Go, go, go!" Then I would run to the other side of the field and wait on them to get there and yell at them some more encouraging words. I never won a race but I shared in a lot of victories. I won a medal but I had a place on the medal stand with our champions because I helped encourage them to the victory. Who do you know who is rooting you on in your race? Who is believing in you, hoping in you, counting on you, and wanting you to succeed? Even if you can't think of anyone I assure you God is! God is the great encourager. He is cheering us on toward the goal.

This video is from the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and is a race where Derek Redmond was running the 400 meter. He blew out his hamstring and then...well you will just have to watch.

God, our Father, does more than stand by and watch us struggle through this race called life. As the great encourager, he enters the race and helps carry us to the finish line. We couldn't do it without him. What is more, he even put the uniform on himself, laced up his running shoes, and took up his cross shaped baton. He walked onto the track of life on earth as a baby in a manger. And he ran the race perfectly. He ran it better than anyone else has ever run it. He won the victory. Now we too run the race and we are being cheered on by the champion of the world and his message is clear, "Keep running, keep going, victory is yours, stay in this race! Go, go, go!"

What greater encourager could we have than to know that the maker of heaven and earth is calling us heavenward. He is encouraging us and pulling for us. So keep on running. Don't give up the race. Take the relay baton from the champion, keep on running, and hand it off to someone else giving them a start in the greatest race that has ever been rung. In the stands are all those who have gone on before us encouraging us and cheering us on to victory.

I've got a fun preschool/kindergarten activity that's perfect for counting in English, French, Spanish, German, and more.

Do you know the classic preschool elephant song? It goes like this:

One elephant went out to play

Upon a spider's web one day,

He had such enormous fun

That he called for another elephant to come.

The second verse has two elephants, the third verse has three elephants, and so on. You can find foreign language versions of this fun song on the Teach Me CD's, as well as other sources. I love the Teach Me CD's, but for this particular song I just use it as a teacher resource for learning the words. The verses go back and forth between English and the target language, which throws me just a bit.

So, here's how you can turn a cute, catchy elephant song into a fun and effective game. Gather the children into a close circle and have them hold on to the edges of a small parachute. (I find a vinyl tablecloth to be a dandy, frugal parachute substitute.) Ta-da . . . it's a spider's web!

Prepare small, laminated paper elephants and number them from 1-10. Toss Elephant #1 onto the spider's web and sing the song as the children gently move the parachute up and down. Kids love to see the elephant jumping up and down and having such enormous fun! When the verse is done, everyone shouts, "Come!" in the target language. Add in Elephant #2 and count the elephants. Sing again. Call over another elephant. Count. Sing. Get the drill? Continue the routine until all ten elephants have a turn. This game is so hands on and repetitive, staying immersed in the target language is a breeze.

I just played this game a few weeks ago with kids ages 2-7. Then we played it again later in the week. The kids keep asking me to bring the elephants back to play. I'm telling you, this game's a hit with the little ones!

The Teach Me CD's are available in ten languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, and Russian.
