In the process of moving, I have decided to sell off a large portion of my paranormal collections. Since EBay seems to be a hotbed of paranormal (selling) activity lately, I thought my items might find a good audience there. It seems there are a lot of phony listings and such, but I think they are so glaringly obvious that people won't be fooled for long. So, I have been putting many of my items up for sale. No doubt any funds I accrue from this new venture will lead to more metaphysical objects to clutter up the new place!

This evening, after much debating, I posted on EBay one of the first haunted dolls I ever took into my collection. It was time to "cut the cord" with Molly, so to speak. She is an amazing little haunted doll, and I was SO excited to actually record an amazing EVP of her yesterday. You can see the auction by clicking here.

The video is below. I cannot make out what is being said, but the voice is very eerie. This is the first EVP I have ever caught on Molly.

I am moving in a month or so, so please check back here for updates on the haunted painting. I plan to dive right back into that amazing piece as soon as I am settled.

Romans 11:26 says, "And so all Israel will be saved." What does this mean?

Obviously, it doesn't mean every Jew will be saved. In fact, the same chapter says God hopes to "save some of them" (vs. 14). Judas was a Jew, yet we know he will be lost for betraying Christ. Jesus called him, "the son of perdition" (John 17:12). Jesus told many Jews, "If you do not believe I am He [the Messiah], you will die in your sins" (John 8:24). Not every Jew believes in Jesus Christ, thus many will "die in their sins" and be lost.

Many Christians today interpret Romans 11:26 as applying to the end of the seven-year tribulation when Jesus appears in the clouds at His Second Coming. In other words, they don't apply the verse to all Jews throughout history, but only to "all Jews" who are alive at the end. Supposedly, at the end of the tribulation, all remaining Jews in Israel will look up, see Christ coming in the clouds, realize He is the true Messiah, believe in Him, and thus "All Israel will be saved."

This is a false teaching, as I will attempt to show.

1. First, the context of Romans 11 is not the Second Coming.
2. "There is no partiality with God" (Romans 2:5-11). It would be an act of partiality to save "all Jews" at the end, but not "all Jews" in history. The idea is, "When all final Jews see Christ coming in the clouds, then they will believe." But this would give those final Jews a supposedly irresistible opportunity to believe in Jesus Christ which past Jews have not had. Nor would this be fair to "all Gentiles" living at the end. Why would God save all Jews at the end but not all Gentiles? All Gentiles will see Jesus coming just like all Jews.
3. When Christ finally appears in the clouds, IT'S TOO LATE TO BELIEVE IN HIM. Rev. 22:11,12 says that before He comes in the clouds, all decisions have already been made. Jesus said it will be like Noah's day (Mat. 24:37-39). In Noah's day the door of the ark closed before the flood came (Gen. 7:16). When the flood came, it was too late. To save all Jews AT THE SECOND COMING would be like saving all those outside the ark WHEN THE RAIN STARTED FALLING.
4. When Jesus comes in the clouds, this is the time of judgment upon ALL unbelievers who don't know God nor obey the gospel (2 Thess. 1:7-10; Jude 14,15).

So what does this mean, "All Israel shall be saved"? First of all, Romans 9:6 says there are two Israels. one is an Israel according to the flesh (Romans 9:3,4) and the other is the Israel of God (Galatians 6:14-16). The Israel of God is composed of both Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:29). Gentiles who believe are grafted in. They become part of the "same body" with believing Jews (Eph. 3:6). Paul calls this unity of believing Jews and Gentiles, "the mystery of Christ" (Eph. 3:4).

The immediate context of Romans 11:26 is vs. 25. When "the fullness of the Gentiles has come in," then "all Israel will be saved." Or, to be exact, "And so all Israel will be saved." In other words, the coming in of the fullness or total number of the Gentiles results in "all Israel" being saved. Paul's idea seems to be that when all Gentiles (totally, throughout history) have come in, that is, have been grafted into the Vine, they, uniting with all Jews who have become believers, will form the total number of the saved. Paul also reveals that when Gentiles come in, God can use this to motivate some Jews to believe (verses 11 & 14). Vs. 25 calls this whole thing, "this mystery," which we have already proven to be the "mystery" of both Jews and Gentiles being united in one body through Christ (Eph. 3:4,6). Vs. 27 says all are saved because Christ takes away their sins through His covenant, which must be the New Covenant, which applies to all believers, Jew and Gentile. Thus the "all Israel" that is saved is the total group of believing Gentiles and Jews combined.

The "all Israel that is saved" does not apply to all Jews throughout history, nor can it apply to a select favored group who become instant believers when Jesus Christ comes crashing down through the sky. By that time, it is too late to believe.

It occurred to me only after I had finisjed this caricature of Hugh that his haunted expression reminds me of Munch’s The Scream. I wonder if the casters of House had this in mind when they approached Laurie for the role?

Whenever this has happened, it has always been turned with the top of the painting facing right. The painting itself is heavy, so it would take a strong energy to actually lift it up and turn it like this. There is also never anyone else in the home on the nights that it has turned, so any practical jokes can be ruled out.

Over the past few weeks, the painting has been just as active as it always has been. So much so, that I am thinking of putting it in storage until I move into my new place and have more time to work with and investigate it. I am in the process of moving, and have so many things going on right now that having such an extremely active item around is very unsettling. I am finding that it is so active that I don't have time to observe it as much as I would like to. I will still try to post updates here at least once a week until I decide whether or not to put it in storage.

As twilight nears, the natural instinct for slumber is initiated within the human body. Nestling deep within the peaceful confines of one’s cradle of relaxation, a journey into the subconscious is about to commence.

The human soul was never to be permanently imprisoned by the mortal flesh for the entirety of the gestation on earth. Dreaming and astral escape while the body lie dormant for bountiful hours is crucial to the health and happiness of the soul. Returning temporarily to our home realm on the other side, we subconsciously cross over nightly utilizing our physical unconscious state.

Many people dream of communicating and visiting with departed loved ones, assuming it is merely an illusion caused by the subconscious and imaginative mind. Many times, it is the true, ethereal soul in which you perceive as your former loved one. Through dreams, spirits can directly communicate with you due to the harmonious blending of the realms within dream state.

Astral projection is the literal freeing of the soul from it’s corporeal and carnal confinement. Some people can manifest this blissful and freeing phenomena simply by meditating. Many, like myself, have experienced this release simply by accident or coincidence, but remain aware and cognizant of the adventure.

Vast populations are completely unaware during or afterwards that they have left their bodies at all.

Ghosts are surmised by the masses to be deceased individuals that desire a completion of task on earth. Whether that be revenge for their murder, a message to loved ones or simply a pining for their former existence. In a constant state of limbo, many believe that these beings are either not aware of the living around them or that they aggravate and annoy those on the earthly realm. There is another type of ghost.

Those in the dream state often claim very real and tangible locations where they’ve encountered their unconscious storylines. Some have dreamt of homes that they resided in previously and some have encountered homes in which they believe to be an elaborate fabrication of their mind.

It could be hypothesized that many individuals are truly exiting their physical body while in a deep sleep and traveling many distances potentially having their comatose excursion in an existing environment here on earth. Many of the assumed apparitions and paranormal activity could then literally be caused by a living, yet unaware, individual.

Upon awakening, the person dreaming may well assume that the dream they just experienced last night was an exceptionally lucid and realistic dream.  In reality though, they may well have wandered precariously through one of their former residences where they may have imprinted their energy or caused a ghostly mystery within the home.

Next time you vividly recall a dream after a peaceful night’s slumber, consider where you may have gone that evening and who might have experienced you as an entity.

I know you have heard this one. The one about the bridge where you go and hear the baby cry after you call out "Crybaby, crybaby!" Sure. It's just around the corner. Well, here is the story about the real Crybaby Creek Bridge.

Just a note. Everywhere I look on the net I see this refered to as "Crybaby Bridge". Maybe it's just the local southern thing of having to make sure that you know the reason the bridge is there. We call it Crybaby Creek Bridge here. Perhaps it's one of those things like having to call it "Wal-Marts" or K-Marts". Of course my favorite is "Let's go to the Wal-Marts!"

In the early 1940's a young mother was on her way home on Hwy. 601 in the northern part of South Carolina, just south of Pageland. She was tired and it was late at night, all she wanted was to get her little one home and to get some much needed rest. Her husband had been away fighting the good fight for his country and would be arriving home the next day. It had been a long three years since she had seen him and she was very excited about holding him in her arms again. So excited that she took the bridge over Flat Creek a little to fast. The next thing she knew, she had been thrown from the car and was searching frantically for her baby whom she could hear crying in the dark. Search as she might she could not find him, and as she searched the crying got fainter and fainter until it stopped all together. As did her heart. It broke right there on the spot.

Now on the right night, you can go there and call to that lost little soul. Maybe he will call back to you. Maybe mommy will help you to find him......

I first heard of this place in Jr. High. A very spooky story for someone that is impressionable like we all were at that age. I on the other hand had this as one of my first pieces of the supernatural history of my state. So I started to check stuff like this out. Now I will admit to using this place to scaring a few girls. That's a given. But I didn't realize until the advent of the internet just how many of these there were.

The following is a portion of the Wikipedia entry on "Crybaby Bridge.":

The Crybaby Bridge Phenomenon As Internet Hoax: One Case In Point In Maryland
A clear case can be made for the existence of at least one Crybaby Bridge story as being due to a selective, and almost overnight "seeding" of the Shadowlands Ghost Website in 1999. As Jesse Glass, author of Ghosts and Legends of Carroll County Maryland (Carroll County Public Library, 1982, 1998) and The Witness; Slavery in Nineteenth Century Carroll County, Maryland (Carroll County Historical Society and Meikai University Press) presents it, the "Crybaby Bridge" said to exist near Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland allegedly because of the hanging of runaway slaves, and the infanticide of African American babies there by the Ku Klux Klan, is a hoax because of these points:

1) The almost overnight appearance of "Crybaby Bridges" in Maryland and Ohio, which indicates seeding of selected Internet websites devoted to ghosts and the paranormal. One of the most popular websites in the late 1990's was the Shadowlands listing of hauntings in each state. Glass recalls noting the sudden appearance of "Crybaby Bridges" on that website and bringing them--particularly the one in Westminster--to the attention of the owner of the site. The story was almost identical in every location, with certain variations indicating a facile knowledge of the history of the area. In the case of Westminster, KKK activity happened in the 1970's, and received extensive newspaper coverage, so it would not have been difficult for the hoaxer to connect the KKK to the story in Westminster.

2) The lack of any historical documentation of events remotely connected with forced infanticide and deaths of slaves at the bridge. Westminster, Maryland maintained two vital newspapers during the historical period in question,The American Sentinel and The Democratic Advocate. Both papers gave extensive coverage to local events, even the most lurid. This includes hangings, lynchings, and the deaths of African-Americans as well as the activities of the KKK and KKK-like groups during the Reconstruction period. These papers would have reported events like those the Crybaby Bridge story purports to have happened, yet there is not a single mention in any of these papers of those events.

3) The complete lack of any local oral history connected with the bridge in question before 1999. In the 1970's Glass interviewed elderly residents of Westminster and Carroll County, Maryland to compile the stories in Ghosts and Legends of Carroll County, Maryland, and though he talked to residents who could recall stories of what happened in the area pre-dating the Civil War, not one person mentioned anything remotely connected to the bridge in question. Glass himself spent his formative years in the Westminster area and similarly heard nothing about this story until its abrupt appearance on the Internet.

4) Because of these points Glass, a Maryland folklorist and historian whose work has been recognized by the Maryland Humanities Council and the Library of Congress, concludes that the Westminster Crybaby Bridge story is the result of an Internet hoax, and by extension, suggests that other Crybaby Bridge stories that appeared at the same time as the Westminster story are most probably conscious attempts at creating regional fakelore.

Fakelore? HAH! I like that. Well, I have to go by my little slogan of "True or not! Just looking for a really good story."

I have been here several times with friends and family. I even place a geocache here. This particular spot is now DNR land and I don't know if you have permission to go here at night. Which really ruins the story. I mean, you HAVE to go to Crybaby Creek Bridge at night. It's part of the mystique. I know people that absolutely WILL NOT venture here at night. And with good reason.....

Several years ago when we were first married, the wife and I got into a little bout of "ghost hunting". We had come down to visit my parents in Kershaw, SC, just a few miles from the site in question, with the intention of going out to Crybaby Creek to do a little filming. I have to say now that I have since lost the tape we made that night. I know that really sucks! I wish I had it to show here and had I known I would be doing this site all this time later I would have guarded that tape with my life.

Anyway, it's about sundown and we make our way to the site. You have to park at the main road for this one. Years ago you could drive all the way out to the bridge. Now there is a steel gate barring your way. So, a half mile walk on an abandoned highway (this keeps getting better) and you get to the bridge.

By now it's completely dark. Nothing to light our way but a rechargeable MagLite and the light from the cameras LCD screen. We stayed for about an hour and called out the obligatory "cybaby,crybaby!" All with no results. By this time the full moon had come out from behind the clouds and made the spot all eerie. The surrounding landscape being a piece of swampland really sets the whole thing off. This spot is eerie even in the day time. So we film for a little while longer and head home thinking we have nothing.

We took the ride home to Monroe, NC and set up the camera to watch what we had filmed on the TV. I left the room for a few minutes to get some popcprn and some drinks when I hear this blood curdling scream from the bedroom. I run in and all I hear is a muffled "Turn it off! Turn it off!" from beneath one of the pillows. I, being the loving husband that I am, directly disobeyed and rewound the tape. She left. After a few minutes of VERY amateur film shots there appeared on the screen a perfect image of a babys face in the water of the creek below. I was speechless. She was mad and would not come to bed until I turned off the tape.

I went over and over the tape. Watching the same few seconds over and over again. There it was. A babies face in the water. Power of suggestion? Seeing what I wanted to see? Nope. I took the vid to work and to friends houses to let them watch without telling them what I had seen. Each time the response was "HOLY #$%@! There's a babies face in the water!"

I can honestly say that this bridge was famous (infamous) for it's particular peculiarity well before the internet became a popular tool. This story was passed around word of mouth to every kid who would listen. Believe me or not! Better yet, go there yourself and call out to him, if you dare.

So, say what you want about the other Crybaby Bridges, this one is real!

   In my area we have a story about a ‘haunted’ cemetery complete with it’s onwn 13 steps to Hell story.

   The part I find interesting is that if you talk to locals the area that seems to be the real problem is the highway in front of the cemetery.

   So you have to wonder if the cemtery became the focal point because it is a cemtery.

   This story has given me a lot to think about…great writing!

   And the road?

   It’s just a highway where lots of people have died.

   Sometimes when you research these things you’ll always find the grain of truth…and that grain can be a ’strange tale’ in itself.

   You should be aware that The person calling himself Dr. Jesse Glass inserted that material on the Wikipedia site to promote a personal belief he has and an apparent extreme dislike of the Shadowlands webiste. Wikipedia does not permit people to use its articles to publish origiinal research or to insert material of their own writing. His material and clear conflict of interest was discussed at length on the Talk page and largely removed. A more neutral editor ( not me) redacted his basic hypothesis (and that is ALL it is) and added the summary of it to the article under the subheading ‘Controversy’ Never in all my years as a folklorist or anthropologist have I observed such odd and unacademic behavior. Wikipedia is a public encyclopedia and it plays a valuable role on the net. Your citing his added material is a good argument for it being removed since people look to wikipedia for the first word on a subject. It may be true that the term Crybaby bridge was popularized via the Net and that people who looked upon a given local bridge as haunted adopted the term and maybe even some of the backstory of the bridges listed on Shadowlands. That is not fakelore since no deception is intended. What Dr., Glass has against that website, I don’t quite understand.

   As for your own Crybaby bridge - if you can document the stories, you should. Record them as told to you by others and date the recordings. If you can come across any old newspapers stories or even personal correspondence that discusses the events that too is helpful. Keep writing and consider contributing to wikipedia. Folklore topics could use some more input!

   I don’t like the controversy of this, BUT, I will not remove wither comment. Welcome to the both of you. I actually like the viewpoint of the good Doctor in this particular article and thought it a valuable opinion on the subject. As I said in part of my article, our Crybaby Creek Bridge has existed here, in story and in fact, since before I was born.

   Dr. Glass I hope you do not mind me using your viewpoint here on my site. I really enjoyed this part of the Wikipedia article.

   Could you tell me if they were your points or not? I will delete them if they are not. I would hate for anyone to be misquoted. However I do find that they are good points.

   They’re absolutely my points! In fact, I just went back over my “sent” e-mails and can tell you that I sent my first e-mail (unanswered) to Shadowlands on February 21, 1999, so that’s the time that the Crybaby Bridges first started to appear on the Internet. It was almost an over-night appearance, so I would guess that the information was “seeded” during the week of February 14th, 1999. I have no beef with Shadowlands–it was, along with Obiwan’s UFO-free pages–simply one of the few ghost and paranormal sites back then, and its open “hauntings” board classified according to geographical region, was (if I recall correctly) almost a one-of-a-kind feature. I have yet another e-mail from a woman who complained to me about the flood of Crybaby Bridge reports that year.

   The Wikipedia business about “conflict of interest” was a misunderstanding by the anonymous editor with whom I was corresponding. Conflict of interest means that one is somehow trying to benefit from posting about a subject. My book Ghosts and Legends of Carroll County was simply cited because I literally wrote the book on the paranormal events of that area. I was not attempting to sell that book or anything else I’ve written by spoeaking up about this internet hoax.

   What I do find rather awful and personally distasteful about the Crybaby Bridge hoax is the made-up, openly racist story regarding deaths of slaves and African-American babies from that bridge when there is not a stick of evidence for any of it. I think that’s simply morally reprehensible to attempt to foist that kind of canard onto a community like Westminster which has had, believe you me, it’s share of racial misunderstandings and tragedies.

    Okay, my brother, three friends, and the youth leader from our church are going to that same crybaby bridge to test the urban legend. What exactly do you have to do? Anybody know? There are tons of stories, like that you have to turn the car off at night and put your keys on top and they’ll dissapear, and of course screaming “Crybaby,crybaby!”, but what EXACTLY is it?

Is this why you say falling in love and climbing out of love? Is it like a pit you get trapped in a hole you can't get out of? A pit ful of shadows and there is nowhere to run..,

The Witchy Wolves is an old Chippewa Legend that has been passed down for generations.  According to legend, there is a spirit animal - half dog and half wolf - that protects the souls and the graves of Native American warriors. It will attack anyone that disturbs the final resting place of Chippewa warriors.

Somewhere along the line, the legend became well-known in the mid-Michigan area and became associated with the Omer Plains. There are stories of teenagers in the 1970’s driving out to the Plains in search of the mysterious “Witchy Wolf”.  For those who don't know the area, the Omer Plains is a rather eerie area.  It is mostly forested, undeveloped and is divided by the Rifle River. If you travel down Jose Road, it will take you through the heart of the Omer Plains. Long time no see to all you horror fans out there.  As any visitors to my site may have realized over the last several months, is the lack of updates to Panic Hotel.  I've had many things I've had to do with my life, but I hope to get Panic Hotel up and running again soon.

My hosting is almost up in a few weeks, and I've had to decide weither to keep the site up and running or not.  I would like to try to keep it running if I can.   In this situation, I would like to rekindle everything and rework the site to make it more effectient and make it run smoother.  after making the current version of the site, I quickly found that adding new pages to the site was damn near impossible to do without ruining things.  I didn't have any room to place things I wanted to add, so I will have to remedy that in the new design.

Also, I would love to have you all send me your horror stories so that they can be viewed by all!

 For the first time in more than a century a 'haunted' doll will leave its home in Key West. 

The straw filled Robert the Doll belonged to Key West artist Robert Eugene Otto, received the doll as gift when he was a young boy in the late 1800s by a nurse who looked after him. 

As the legend goes, the family would often hear Robert having a conversation with the doll – and the doll answering back in a voice distinctly different than Robert's voice. Otto never went anywhere without the doll and blamed it for many strange events and mishaps around the house. 

After his death, the doll frightened others who lived the home and was eventually relegated to an attic room. But that's not where the story ends. Robert the Doll reportedly used to taunt children from the attic window as they walked past the house. 

A regular stop on the city's ghost tours, Robert the Doll will be featured at a paranormal conference in Clearwater. The doll is scheduled to appear at the Atlantic Paranormal Society Convention on July 19 and 20.

The above description does not exactly match the inscription on the back of the painting, which states that the last name is SEXTON not SEXON. The painting also states that the house began being constructed in 1798 and was completed in 1837. The online reference says is was built in 1862.

The other website sites a completion date of 1837, which matches the back of the painting and reads:

3-story, but from the front it is only 2 stories. The walls are built of bricks and concrete and covered with stucco. The wide projecting cornice is supported at each angle by a large bracket.

This is the only information on this octagon house that I could find. I wonder if the house itself is haunted?

I am still trying to get an idea of exactly how old this painting is as well. I am unable to make out the name of the artist, because it is tiny and very rubbed out. It looks to be Marilyn Roach, but that's only my best guess and I could find no artist by this name. The painting itself is in pristine condition, though judging from the canvas board and the frame it is clearly antique. The frame is also antique, but in pristine condition, and I am unable to date it based on the frame style. I am hoping perhaps a visitor to this blog might be able to estimate an age of the frame at least. My best guess would be 1940s?

I am still not clear if this painting is positive or negative in nature, but it is still incredibly active. It seems to act almost as a portal to another dimension. It really is so unbelievable, that I am sure some readers might think I am off my rocker, though I assure you I am not! :) This is one amazing paranormal object.

I caught several ectoplasm type figures moving in the grassy area of the painting the other day. I was so excited to finally catch some of these moving shapes on film.

I lived up north in Canada for many years. During a large portion of this time, I lived out on an acreage in an older house that apparently had it's own unseen residents.

The land and area however, were very rich with history indeed. I believe that many of the occurrences had to do partly with residual energy and a restless spirit that wandered about the area.

It was a beautiful piece of land. Ten treed acres with outbuildings, flowers and a pond. The house however, as large as it was, was a disaster. I was more than a little nervous about the house, from a distance it looked okay, but up close....not so great.

Part of the house had no siding whatsoever and to make things worse, there were resident squirrels happily making a home in-between the brittle boards and the insulation. Inside, matters did not get better. The paint was bright and done maybe twenty years before, when lime green and electric blue were popular. A lot of the house was done in dark peach as well, needless to say, it needed a paint job desperately.

The carpet in the living room was indoor/outdoor carpet, also a quarter of a century old and pretty grimy. The kitchen had old, dark green linoleum that was stapled down in spots where it had started ripping and rolling up. There was an old, dank cold room where dust had resided for a very, very long time. The trap door to the crawl space was in there and had a very eerie feeling about it.

This was just the downstairs, the real terror lie upstairs.

I suppose the upstairs wasn't too bad, except for the eccentric blue paint and lack of carpet, there was just plywood. I just tried to pretend it was hard wood flooring.

When we first moved in, we discussed the fix ups we would make and I looked forward to that.

From the first few days though, I realized that not all was okay with this humble little abode, especially the master bedroom. It seemed bright and sunny during the day, with it's hand made closets and dark peach walls, but I always had the feeling I was being watched in that room.

My boyfriend at the time worked away from home, so very often I was by myself in this large, antiquated home. I had my wonderful protector though, a beautiful, faithful collie named Shelby. She never left my side and she always slept on the floor beside the bed at night.

Years went by without much to report, just this odd watching feeling throughout, but mostly in the master bedroom. Sometimes, late at night, it literally felt as though it was glaring at me through the darkness.

The circumstances all changed when I got pregnant, that's when the activity really started up. Things would go missing and turn up exactly where I had looked only moments before. Sometimes I would have looked in the same spot over and over, knowing that that was exactly where I had left something, and later, in tears, finding it where I had already looked.

I would feel terrible, threatening sensations in the bedroom, almost evil, as though something hated me. There were feelings throughout the house though, where you just never felt alone, like in the shower or when your back was turned.

After my daughter was born, things went alright for a while, then I started hearing things. Not subtle things either, slamming doors, very clear voices talking throughout the house and finding items moved everywhere.

One summer, my sister, only twelve years old, wanted to watch a certain movie, which happened to be in our upstairs bedroom. I told her where it was and she promptly went upstairs to retrieve it. I could hear her walking down the hall upstairs towards the bedroom, I heard her thumping across the room, then all of the sudden, I heard her rush out the room, run down the hall and down the stairs.

Of course, annoyed she might wake the baby, I questioned her crossly why she was being so noisy. She said, and I'll never forget this, "Dani, I hate your room, it watches me."

My stomach dropped and I felt myself pale, for the first time, I realized what this might be. I had validation.

The biggest event for me was one night I woke up in a cold sweat, alone, my boyfriend was gone to work. I couldn't see through the pitch black of the room, but I could feel something there, glaring at me through the darkness. I shook and trembled with fear. I started to cry as I felt it near me, and lean in towards me. Shelby was outside, so I was facing this completely alone. Or was I?

This was the turning point in my life, I prayed, for the first time in my life, I really prayed. I always prayed to something, God, Jesus or angels, but for silly flippant and ridiculous things, "God, please help me lose twenty pounds." or "Jesus, I promise I'll never take your name in vain again if you give me such and such." Stupid little lies to Him, I didn't know any better until that time.

I whispered through shaking lips as this entity drew closer, oozing with hatred and malice, I prayed, "Please, please help me." Without hesitation, there it was, some unseen force had wrapped his loving arms around me, shielding me from the evil presence. Never before had I experienced so much love, so much sensation, so much light.

As I felt these arms embrace my soul, every cell in my body seemed to fill with light and love. He, as I felt it was male, hugged me with a love that I had never known. I had met one of my angels, I now know his name to be Perseus, but back then, I had very little knowledge of spirituality and 'the other side'. Seems like a million years ago.

As soon as I was embraced, I was calm, all fear dissipated, the evil entity left the room and I fell into the most tranquil sleep I've ever known.  The next morning, upon awakening, I instantly recalled the hug and I cried with happiness and relief, knowing that forever more, I was never alone.

So I quickly booked a stay at the lovely Menger Hotel. This hotel is cool because it's got ghosts and stuff but the lobby smells funny. My kids thought it smelled like some strange flower but I thought it smelled like pee. As you can see from the photos above, a good time was had by all...despite our encounter with the near-by Denny's. That place is man-made ASS. Don't go there unless you like ass that is man-made and that is very assy. (Note to self, don't let 4-year olds choose dining locations.)

There were many highlights to the mini-vacation but honestly, one of the best ones was going to see Wall-E, although not necessarily for the obvious reason.

Yes, Wall-E was pure Pixar gold (but it's not my favorite Pixar film) and the ubiquitous short cartoon before the film was the best one yet but what really caused my breast to swell with pride and send a little chill down my spine was the fact that they showed the Touchsmart maestro commercial (below) before the film.

C'mon, that's effing cool. Even my daughter looked up at me like I was a rockstar when she saw the opening shot and heard the swell of Vivaldi's "Summer". *tear*

For this video we chose one of the most haunted castles in Europe - Charleville castle in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.  This video sees Luan walk around the castle - but is she alone?

   Spirit mediums date back to early human history. One of the most well known early examples of communicating with the dead is recounted in the Holy Bible: The tale of the Medium of Endor (also referred to as the Witch of Endor).

   In the book of 1 Samuel 28, Saul, King of Israel, sends his servants in search of a medium (the Medium of Endor or, as referred to in Bible text, a woman “that hath a familiar spirit”) in order to contact and seek counsel from the spirit of the slain prophet, Samuel. In this story, Samuel comes forth (Whether it be by physical manifestation or by way of communicating through the medium wasn’t clear in text) and informs Saul that he is doomed in his upcoming war with the Philistines. The next day, King Saul dies in battle along with his sons.

   Today, people seek the services of spirit mediums to communicate with their deceased loved ones, seek counsel from spirits of the dead and angelic entities, confirm possible hauntings, help direct spirits in their “travel” to the “other side”, and, in some cases, to cease spiritual inhabitation of a certain dwelling or area.

   While communication with the dead is no new concept, the spirit mediumship practice has evolved over time. Physical mediumship involves perceptible manifestations such as levitation, knocking, audible voices, or materialized manifestations or spirit bodies. This type of mediumship has grown to be less popular over time. Mental mediumship is the most common form of spirit contact today. Famous spirit mediums of today such as Sylvia Browne, James Van Praagh, and John Edward are known for this type of ability.

   Where do psychic or spirit mediums get their power or abilities to communicate with spirits of the dead? I asked notable paranormal professional and spirit medium, Barb Mallon this question.

   “I don't like the word ‘power’,” Barb says. “It really isn't a power, just an ability. Just like you have the ability to raise your right arm or blink. And I believe most DO possess it but forget their abilities around the age of five or six. So, it just lays dormant until one wishes to use it.  It's always there.”

   With no hard evidence, it is still open to question as to what happens after death. Does the spirit of man still live? Where does it go? Barb tries to shed some light on this:

(Clark): “When a person passes, what is the process? Do they automatically go to Heaven or Hell? Where do they go?”

(Barb): “It depends entirely on their own free will.  When the physical body dies, we shed it, and move into an "etheric body" or body double.  This is how we see many earth-bounds/ghosts who choose not to cross over. They get ‘stuck’ in this body by their own choice.  This is the thickest body next to the physical, which is why ghosts can do more to get our attention and we can see them more strongly than a crossed over spirit person.  IF we choose to cross over, we then shed that etheric body/body double and move into an astral body for a time.  This, so we can evaluate and review what good and not so good we've done here, how we can do better next time, what we could have done, how well we did with this or that, etc.  After a period of time, if we choose, we can shed that layer, as well, and step into more celestial bodies, and so on.”

(Clark) “After passing, is the spirit of a person guided by another spirit, by an angel, or some other spiritual being to their next destination?”

(Barb) “I believe so, yes, especially in traumatic situations where a person passes suddenly and may be a bit confused at first about what has happened to them. Sometimes they are met by crossed over loved ones, sometimes by spirit guides of the person, sometimes angels.  It depends on each soul.  Many people who are terminally ill, will see their crossed over loved ones in their hospital room, etc.  I believe we are kind of half here and half there in these kind of situations, and know who we'll be met by.”

(Clark): “What is the most important thing to remember when a loved one passes?”

(Barb) “That they can hear and see us and don't want us to carry any kind of guilt or remorse about anything we feel we did or didn't do enough of for them, etc.  That we can still have a relationship with them, but just in a different way, i.e., as a physical being and a spirit being rather than two physical people here on the earth plane.  That they can hear us when we talk to them in our head or out loud, and, that we don't die, energy doesn't die, it just transforms into a different form.”

(Clark) “If you believe in Heaven, where is Heaven?”

(Barb) “I don't believe Heaven is ONE place, so much, but a level.  I believe that we are pulled to the level there that we were most like here.  I mean that if we are good people and do the best we can, once we cross over, we are pulled to a similar level where we will still learn, evaluate what we've done (good and not so good) and then ascend, learn more, etc.  I do believe that a true Heaven comes after many lifetimes of learning, and also in how you ascend on the other side.  The more we ascend there, or the more we strip these physical/ego layers, the closer to "Heaven" we are.”

   Some Christians say that mediumship is strictly forbidden in the Bible. Some believe mediumship is a demonic or satanic practice. However the image portrayed by most psychic mediums today is one of peace, light, and encouragement and, in a way, influences positive ideas about the dead instead of the normal “dark” and scary concepts.

(Clark) “While communicating with the 'other side', do you ever feel threatened or scared?”

(Barb) “Never. Remember the Universal Law of Vibration: like attracts like.  I do my best to be as ethical as possible and to conduct readings for the highest good of all involved, so there never is anything scary, energy-wise, that would come back at me.  Plus, crossed over folks are pretty cool: they are not earth-bounds or ghosts who can be full of ego still, so there is a difference there.” 

(Clark) “Are there bad or evil spirits? If so, can they hurt us?”

(Barb) “I don't believe in evil, but negative, yes.  There are so many levels of these beings, so you really can't pinpoint it exactly.  Negative or stagnant-wise, we mostly encounter the earth-bounds/ghosts, or the ones who have decided for whatever reason not to cross over.  It's not that these guys are "evil" or "negative" (some may be close...), just a thicker, more physical energy than crossed over folks.  Sometimes they can push things that may hurt us because they're a thicker energy, but I don't believe they can do a lot of damage. We just need to be careful and respectful in their area.  I've seen small instances, personally, of little jabs and things, but we always have to remember to remain calm around them, as fear can pump up their energy.  I also feel like if there is a spirit who wants to cause trouble, and they see we aren't bothered, they get bored and move on.”

(Clark) “What is your drive behind providing the services you provide? Why do you do what you do?”

(Barb) “I love to see a client's face light up when they recognize a spirit energy or are receiving the essence again of the person they loved so much here in a physical form.  I also love to give the other side a telephone, if you will, to be able to let those here know they are okay there.”

(Clark) “In your career, name one experience that has caused you to feel that the service you provide is worthwhile? What happened?”

(Barb) “I do remember when I was first starting out... I was practicing with a lady who made me a piece of jewelry. I held the jewelry she created, that she touched and worked with using her hands, and suddenly I became very aware of this man who had passed.  I described him and gave the message he said to give, and she started to cry with happiness to hear from this gentleman again.  She understood everything so well, and I was amazed at the process and the amount of joy it brought me as well.  I knew I was on the right path.”

(Clark) “Is there a message you would like to communicate to the public about spirit mediums, the spiritual afterlife, or your occupation in general?”

(Barb) “There are MANY charlatans out there, so be selective when getting a reading.  Be sure to always be an ‘open skeptic’ but not a cynic.  Believe it or not, I'm more skeptical when I get a once a year reading done, because I know exactly what should be happening in a reading. Mostly, it's best to be referred to a certain medium by someone who has had a good reading/experience.  Also, be sure the medium is presenting the info in a statement form, not question form.  And, it's great if you come to a reading prepared.  Know how to answer and how NOT to answer (don't give voluntary info, just yes/no), know a lot about your family history so you can validate info that comes in during the reading, rather than having to go home to figure it out, which is great too, the "after reading validations", and be open to anyone coming through and what they have to say, not just who you wish to hear from.  It's best to leave expectations at the door.”
