What about the guy in San Francisco, this illegal alien who shot a man and his two sons? Or the one who knifed someone over leaning on his car, the story I wrote about a few pages back- or more recently, another guy who got stabbed to death over someone making a disparaging comment to a waitress?  No one says illegal aliens are 'socially inept', now do they?  How many Inner City Ghetto  Youth consistently exhibit traits that could lead to new keywords and catch-phrases  that describe that what for the most part, amounts more to personality and genetics than well-meaning multi-cultis would ever admit.

Oh, but it isn't correct to describe the  truly  'anti-social' and 'psychopathic' as such, however they got that way- only when it can be applied to White Guys like Reiser, that it is full-metal Clarice-Starling vitriol with the disparaging  phrases, the pathological descriptions. This particular vilification is unique to the White Persecution Machine because these descriptors can usually ONLY be applied to White guys. For example,  I don't ever recall hearing OJ described as a socially-inept nerd, though people say he lost his  'blackness' long ago. Or did he?  The language of Political Correctness won't go near touching non-white groups except with specially made-up terms that don't poke fun at, but are sympathetic, exculpatory.

You will never hear about 'Woe to the downtrodden Irish that struggle with issues of socio-economic inequities, brought about by years of Irish discrimination , and their struggle with substance abuse and poverty, and how we need to build cultural centers and free day-care to help them ..yadyada'. Nope, there wasn't any of that for the Irish, it was tough potatoes for them. They were the day-care. According to the local craigslist childcare dept, they still are to a large degree. These days, it is considered status to have an Irish English-speaking nanny rather than.. well..you know, though probably  those that have them apologize that they don't have illegals.

Through redundancy they establish mental correlations.  Before this, however, they define/establish What Is/Reality.  Having  certain characteristics = 'label' >> stick label on  person>> shampoo, rinse, repeat>> POOF!- correlation established through the media to the American Mind.  Siegel  flies  via cable, chunders memes and correlations down fluffy, white nestling's gullets. I'm no math whiz, but one need not  be to see these formulas and patterns at work.

Oh , that's right. It's all about money, books and programs. Build a library, IQ will come. Yeah. Ok.  A google search yields almost 100 results for the phrase 'socially inept' in reference to Reiser. This is one example of the very thing they try so hard NOT to do when they write about non-Whites in the news.   They make excuses for what these 'urban youth' DO, and they attack what we ARE. In going after Reiser with this constant hammering of 'social ineptitude' and focusing on the dissection of the meme they have long tried to establish, that of the Innate Genius-cum-Psycho  White Man, they leave behind Actual Reality- They were so concerned with this project that the murder of Mrs. Reiser and the two children left  without a mother seem only incidental to what they wish to promote.

In reality , there are  multitudes of White men who 'suffer' from what is deemed  Social Ineptitude,* that DON'T kill. How the bay area obsessed on the Reiser case. Truffaut's " L'Enfant sauvage" illustrated the life of a feral child, having basically been literally raised by wolves or other forest creatures. Reiser's case  was used as a kind of polar opposite of such, that of the Evil Civilized Privileged White, thus creating an amalgamation of things they wish to vilify and correlate-  If they were looking for the Evil-Murderous-Caucasian-Linux-Programmer poster child, they found one in Reiser.

They think " Ahh, here is yet another opportunity to profit from misfortune, to use the Exception and stretch it to the rule. Another golden opportunity to create memes and correlations that don't really exist in reality, but so what? If we repeat it loud enough and long enough, people will buy it".  People are bored , apathetic about the constant ghetto killings.  This adds drama to their lives, the old,  'one could be  behind you in line at Costco, or Whole Foods!"'. But they aren't, because it just doesn't happen very often at all. Unlike Oakland , East Palo Alto , Hunter's Point and San Jose, among other places.

As I have said on WN radio/forums, the chances of getting hurt anywhere in the Bad Part of Oakland by  *quick, let me refer to my PC-speak mind-travel dictionary*- umm the 'socio-economically disadvantaged inner-city urban youth' are so much greater of getting any kind of hurt than with one of these 1/1,000,000 Evil White Serial Killers. You can bet anyone who must regularly drive through  Oakland has a cell phone, probably a can of mace, Onstar (electronic 911 system built into car), a taser, pepper-spray, and possibly is also packing a weapon, yet still live in fear of randomly getting their head blown off, car-jacked, robbed, etc.

Still, they meander through the byways in their Prii , replete-with-Free-Tibet-bumper stickers, flashing-tech-gear glued to their heads seemingly talking to themselves schizophrenically-  notebooks hidden away on the passenger side seat under the FairExchangeRealMoneyForBangladeshFiveYearOldWorkers sweatshirt, navigating traffic through their anti-reflective lenses, set in designer frames. As I have also said many times before, when one hears the inevitable defense "Oh , but I know this one (insert racial group) and he is so totally not like that, he is way mellow and cool, man, nothing like that"- well that only serves to prove my point re the Exception rather than the rule. You can take the Wild Child out of the jungle , but you can't take the jungle out of the Wild Child.

Back to these so-called Socially Inept White Guys.  Experts are frothing at the mouth looking for new disorders and put-down names  with which to diagnose the White Man.  This man below once starred in an 80's  movie as the stereotypical White Nerd.  What on God's green earth is WRONG with being intelligent, liking to read and achieve? What is wrong with not being a flake or  a loud, posturing 'bad ass'? These so-called nerds are often late-bloomers, only fully coming into their own later in life. Pero leyendo los artículos Se explica todo-menos mal porque creia haber caído dentro de la dimensión desconocida-.

Recently, Best Buy has started stocking boxed versions of Ubuntu in many of their stores. When news of this hit the Ubuntu Forums, there were forum members claiming that selling Ubuntu violated the GPL, that Best Buy was immoral for selling free software, that ValuSoft couldn't really be an official Canonical approved software partner and thus should be sued by Canonical for trademark infringement.

Come on! This is a good thing. The GPL provides for selling free software, since the "free" refers to freedom, not cost. Apart from the fact that Canonical on its website officially announced ValuSoft as a new partner, there's no way Best Buy would sell software that was from some shady company blatantly infringing on trademarks. Best Buy may have some sketchy business practices, but I'm sure their lawyers make sure nothing is illegal... or at least not immediately obviously so.

Yes, Ubuntu can be downloaded for free, but not everyone trusts free products, not everyone is aware of software unless it's available at a store like Best Buy, not everyone has a fast enough connection to download a 700 MB file, and not everyone knows what to do with a downloaded .iso file anyway. And then there's our good buddy, Hans Reiser, creator of the ReiserFS filesystem. When news hit that he was being charged with his wife's murder, Linux users on both Ubuntu Forums and Linux Questions came to his immediate defense (Why? No Linux developer can be a murderer? Why not?) and started being all arrogant about their peanut gallery policework, citing the lack of a body and all the evidence against Reiser being circumstantial. Even when the prosecutor announced they were going to make a deal with Reiser to reveal the body's location for a reduced sentence, some Linux users were still insisting that the prosecutor may have just pulling this deal out of nowhere, and it doesn't mean Reiser actually knows where the body is.

It wasn't until Hans Reiser actually did reveal the location of the body that Linux users realized en masse, "Oh, wait. He actually did kill his wife." Yeah. Everyone's got an opinion on the guilt or innocence of people involved in public trials. Everyone's got a conspiracy theory and wants to make it seem as if the police and courts are totally inept. Yes, of course, if only the justice system were in the hands of Linux users—then real justice would be done.

No. We're all human. That means Linux programmers can be murderers. Linux users can be wrong. The police and courts can sometimes mess up things and sometimes get things right.

My fellow Linux users, let's hold off before jumping to conclusions. People already think Linux users are crazy geeks. Don't provide more fodder, please.

Resulta que Hans Reiser fue un programador destacado por sus sistemas de archivos Reiser FS y Reiser 4, usados por defecto en algunas distribuciones Linux como OpenSUSE. Pues bien, parece ser que Reiser fue condenado todo porque su esposa (con la que se estaba separando), Nina Reiser, desapareció bajo extrañas circunstancias en Septiembre del año 2006.

Al mes siguiente, las autoridades en Oakland (California) le declararon sospechoso de la desaparición de su esposa. Poco más se, solamente que en abril del presente año volvió a ser noticia porque fue condenado por un delito de asesinato en primer grado. En el juicio contra Reiser, pasaron por el estrado un total de 60 testigos sin contar al propio Reiser durante los seis meses que duró el proceso.

Lo curioso es que el cuerpo nunca fue hallado... hasta ahora. Nina Reiser yacía en un lado de una colina a menos de 200 metros de una casa lindante del Redwood Regional Park. Ahora parece ser que por haber cooperado en las investigaciones para encontrar a la pobre mujer, Hans Reiser vería felizmente cómo su condena baja de forma significativa, desde la cadena perpetua que le fue impuesta en un principio hasta un máximo de quince años.

Esta serie de sucesos que he relatado a modo de culebrón (nótese la ironía) han sido esgrimidos por algunos integrantes de la comunidad del Software Libre para dejar de usar el sistema de archivos de Reiser. Cada cual es libre de pensar lo que quiera, pero, fundir la vida privada de este hombre con su faceta como programador me parecería un insulto a la misma comunidad ya que este individuo con la creación del ya citado Reiser FS, hizo un notable aporte a nuestra comunidad, si bien, no se le reconocerá lo suficiente por un crimen que nunca debió de cometer.

Los hechos

El 5 de Septiembre del 2007, su ex esposa Nina desapareció. La última vez que fue vista fue dos días antes de dejar a sus 2 hijos en la casa del programador. El 10 de Octubre del mismo año Hans fue arrestado por ser el principal sospechoso de su desaparición y siendo acusado luego del asesinato de la misma, de la cual se declaró inocente.

Su proceso comenzó en Noviembre y hace aproximadamente 2 semanas se le declaró culpable de la desaparición y asesinato de su esposa. Y el cuerpo?. Curiosamente aún no se ha encontrado.

Su pena es de 25 años de prisión y debería ingresar a principios de Julio.

Futuro de ReiserFS

Si bien el futuro del sistema de archivos es incierto, los empleados de Namesys (empresa de la cual Hans era dueño) indicaron que la situación no produciría retrasos y el desarrollo de Reiser4 continuaría, aunque hasta ahora no hay señales ni de la empresa ni del proyecto.

Una lástima para el FLOSS, esperemos que se pueda aclarar el caso y el proyecto pueda seguir adelante.

A fecha de hoy, Reiser ha conducido a la policía a un cuerpo, presuntamente el de su esposa desaparecida, a cambio de una reducción de condena.

In the end, there really is no nerd defense.  If there was any bias in the Wired article, it was probably too sympathetic to Reiser.  After all, he is a prototypical American nerd, undeniably brilliant, socially awkward, a person who escapes to an alternate, violent, but structured fantasy.  Nevertheless, he murdered someone.  All the sympathy goes to the victim of his crime.

There are acts we cannot undo.  Acts that should have never been committed in the first place.  The only hope now is that he recognizes the horrible cost of his crime and may he spend the rest of his days humbly atoning for this sin.

Nina was located in a four-foot ditch near the West Ridge Trail, in Redwood Regional Park.  I shudder while thinking about how many times I walked right by her grave.  This was not exactly a remote spot!

CBS News Producer Paul LaRosa filed this report a little while ago.   We all remember the Hans Reiser case, and the defenses including Nina's escape to Russia.  As LaRosa said, "that puts a lie to his story."

I'm sickened about this visit to the Hills today.  With Nina's body as evidence, Hans might be able to prove the murder wasn't pre-meditated.  This means the sentence could be reduced from 25/life down to 15/life instead.  Not that this brings back Nina or changes his kids' lives in Russia.

Do you recall when Nina first went missing?  In Montclair, we were all horrified by this disappearance for a few days and hoped for the best.  But those flyers were up long after we knew better.  Years later, Hans was convicted of her murder due to overwhelming circumstantial evidence.

Our famous murder case is no longer a mystery.  Even though this closes the sordid tale, it will remain chilling for the Reisers' neighbors.

This week, however, my eyes were opened to a whole new and seriously weird side of people behind open source. Well, one person in particular really. Hans Reiser. On the 30 April he was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of killing his estranged wife Nina Reiser.

Reiser was an open source developer for Linux who created a new filing system for the open source company.

But a more strange situation I would be hard pressed to find. There was no body and no murder weapon and the case seems to have been based entirely on some reportedly weird behaviour of Reiser's, several drops of Nina's blood on a sleeping bag and pillar of their house, the fact that Reiser was carrying around $8,960 cash in a fanny pack (the fanny pack screams geek to me!) and bought some books on murder investigations after his wife went missing. So the defence based their response to the charges on what wired.com call “Geek Defense”. Which can be explained as this: “I may be awkward, a little weird, and prone to convoluted theories about nearly everything. But I am not a killer.” Which obviously didn't work out well for them.

Eish.

This man sounds cooked. The best response I've heard to the case was from my digsmate when I told her about it all she asked was "So did he plead insanity?"

With each new piece of information that I read on the case it becomes a little more bizarre.

The conviction also leaves Linux in a sticky spot. They can't very well use the recently developed elements of Reiser's file systems if they are associated with a convicted murderer. And according to Jonathan Corbet, founder of Linux news website LWN.net, even open source geeks aren't really interested in getting involved with the work of Reiser4 (the file system founded by Reiser).

Again in a bitter contested divorce and custody case where the custody was granted to the mom, and subsequently mom disappeared leaving the children behind, the dad (a Linux visionary) after a six month trial has been found guilty of murder (no body, no crime scene, no reliable eyewitnesses, and virtually no physical evidence).

We will probably never know what really happened, but would things have been different if joint custody had been granted?????

Todo empezó en el año 2006 cuando la mujer desapareció y la policía encontró pruebas que convertían a Reiser en sospechoso de asesinato. Sin embargo, la cosa se complicó cuando el amante de esta reconoció haber matado a ocho personas aunque afirmó no tener nada que ver con la desaparición. Reiser asegura que todo es un complot de su esposa para quedarse con su dinero y que ésta se encuentra en Rusia, su país natal.
