It's the Year End (for accountants anyway) and I got stuck in the office all day despite the very beautiful weather outside.

This was taken after I left the office at 1830 hours; it was the nearest subject I could find before the light disappeared.

I really needed a tripod here but I don't take mine to work so I placed the camera on one of the exposed rocks at low tide.

The Head of the River Race is rowed on the River Thames from Mortlake to Putney in March each year.

I think this was either the schools version or a rehearsal; the Head of the River Race is actually on Saturday March 15 at 0915 hours.

In any case, there was a good turnout for this session.

(I am not sure I will turn up for the real race because Event Photography doesn't really interest me).

Detail shots of the bridge railings:

(The bridge was built in 1869; it's a wonder that those railings haven't given way yet).

This is the moment when a sea gull took flight; I had been advancing slowly with my camera but obviously not slow enough.

(Edit: I am not too fond of the sky gradient and shall be re-working this when I get home tonight).

This is Hammersmith Bridge in West London and it should also be the last of the bridge pictures this week.

On day 37, I was at work till 2000 hours and was too wrecked to seek other subjects; these were taken during my lunch break which I tend to spend around the bridge.

Another picture of the young painter which I posted on day 28; this time the sky was (slightly) better and he has chosen a different viewpoint.

He is painting the Hammersmith Bridge.

This is as close as I could get without casting a shadow on his canvas because the sun was behind me.

A Thames Tourist boat which got temporarily stuck under the Hammersmith Bridge at High Tide.

Hammersmith Bridge has a low clearance height and should really be avoided by these tourist boats when the tide is high.

This one was empty.

I have been restricted to photographing the Hammersmith Bridge area for the last 3 days because work has been very hectic and there has been no time to seek other subjects.

This is a quickly grabbed shot after a late lunch at around 1630 hours.

It's a viewpoint that I've returned to once too many times for my liking.

This is Hammersmith Bridge in West London.

It was shot during my lunchbreak; I combined an ND400 with a polarising filter for a 20 second exposure at F/11

I originally conceived this as a black and white image but I haven't been happy with my conversions so far.

I don't take my tripod to work so I used part of the wooden platform as a tripod.

This is the bw version of Day 35's image.

I have always seen the bridge from this position in black and white but so far, I have not been very happy with my conversions.

This isn't the first time I have shot this viewpoint; there is an earlier version in my blog somewhere which I am also not happy with as well . . . but each time I photograph it, I come closer to understanding why it isn't working for me.

Day 15 was grey and overcast so I fixed my flash to the camera and fed the gulls instead.

I wanted an exposure of at least 1/500 seconds in order to freeze the birds so I sacrificed ISO and exposure here.

And since I was feeding the birds with my left hand and shooting with my right, I had to use the 17-40mm lens because it is my lightest zoom.

(I have cropped out the left part in order to balance the bridge).

I will probably bin the lot but I wanted to put one out there . . .

(The bridge in the background wasn't my choice; I wanted the birds with a different background but I am still learning to train them to abide with my wishes).
