So yes, Josh does have short hair.  I hated to do it, but he asked me to chop his hair sometime at the end of last year.  He thought that it would probably be better if he were interviewing at churches without the pony tail.  :)  He also had to shave his beard, something he really misses.  His work does not allow beards so needless to say, he wants outta there!   He doesn't like that it makes him look younger and he says it makes him look like a carpet cleaner.  :)

I also chopped my hair.  I don't really have a good picture of what it looked like in January, when I actually had it cut (Yes, I know, it's been 6 mos, but a haircut goes way low on my priority list of things to spend money on).  This picture is at my grandparents in Michigan, actually the day I had it cut.  My grandma was the one who initiated the appointment. 

Trust me, it's WAYYYYYYYYY cooler than it looks.  :-D

While at a Triathlon yesterday (no, I was not a participant - bwahahahahha,) I got reaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllly tired of my hair.  Just like that.  Too long.  The ends were dead and fried.  I looked crispy.  People should not be crispy.  Fried chicken should be crispy.  Bacon should be crispy.  Hell, even some critters have been known to be crispy, but people should absolutely not be.

Being the adventurous type, I decided that I was going to whack off my hair.  At home.  By myself.   :D  I'm a ninja like that.    While I was hacking away at it, I looked at B and said, "Damn, baby, your wife is insane."  He replied, "Nah, not insane - just brave."  Awwwwww. :0)  <3

By the time it was done, I had removed 4 inches of fried chicken wannabe and revealed soft, silky, healthy hair.  I had B trim up my neck with his clippers (that's true love, I'm telling you,) but the rest of it I did with my own little frantic hands. It feels soooooooo good and it passed the test - I woke this morning, took a good look at it, and still love it.

Aunt Chris cut Liam's hair when he was nine months old which was three months ago. I hadn't realized how unruly it had become until I heard someone at church describing Liam to another person and they said, "he's the little boy with long hair." What!? Is it that noticeable? Is he only known for his shaggy locks? I had to fix that!

From now on, instead of the boy with the long hair, they'll have to say, "the cute, adorable boy with a nice clean, cut."

His cousin Lysa just got back from Alaska (yeah for Alaska!) and she brought Liam a cute little purple moose. It was very sweet of her and it acted as a great distraction for Liam. Distraction was key because he really wanted to have his hands in everything - he wiggled, he squirmed, he stink-faced, he tried to grab the comb, he tried to grab the scissors, he'd stand up, he'd sit down - it's a wonder he didn't get his ears trimmed too. He wasn't bad, just interested and involved. =) Aunt Chris did an exceptional job (thank you, thank you!) and he now looks like a little boy again.

The latina beauty and star of "Desperate Housewives" has achieved a major makeover; she is know sporting a cute little bob to fulfill her role on the show as an exhausted mother, Gabrielle Solis, with two young children. The 33 year-old also had to put a few pounds to act out her new role. The chop was made by celebrity stylist Ken Paves earlier this week around Monday. Her hair-do is getting good playtime, just like her baskbetball beau Tony Parker, and looks good on her. There's no sign of desperate at all.

I got a hair cut today, and I picked up my new Miu Miu glasses. I should feel different, happier, superly hyper right? Well not really, my glasses still have a week of getting use to and my hair feels frizzy and too short. I’m disappointed I’ve looked forward to my hair cut and new glasses for a week. -sigh- I don’t even have the urge to write a long blog about it. Well I better got and lessen the stack of homework.

Just kidding about the laugh statistic. I really don't know whether or not you grimace or giggle when you read my blog, but the statistics do tell me some other interesting things.

For instance, I've had a total of 2,751 page views. Can't wait to reach 3,000. I'm on my way to being a famous mommy blogger. Also I'm according to my official research, I'm the number 1 Google search result for Moose Poop Lamp, thanks to my Skeeters, Droppings and Decoys post. Apparently other people in the world wide web aren't writing about these wonderful topics.

As I mentioned in my "things are getting hairy" post this morning, the most popular search keyword for my blog, by far, has to be haircut - which I can't figure out because there have to millions of pages on haircuts, hair cuts, hair cut images etc. They all end up on Liam's First Hair Cut post.

Also hippies and face paint is a common search result, which lands them on my Face Paint, Balloons and Hippies, oh my! post.

It can only speculate why someone is searching for "noodle on my fingers", "mosquito poop", or "cheerio in nose". I seriously doubt they found what they were looking for when they landed on my blog. I did have someone from the UK tell me my blog was cool. I also had someone tell me they "didn't get it," (the blog). Which was cool too - to be honest, I don't always get it.

I thought it would be cute to let his hair grow out for the summer, but I don't know what the hair I was thinking. It's getting unruly.

He already has such a big dome that his huge mound of hair makes his head look like the size of a large watermelon. His hats are fitting right and it's impossible to style. So last night, I pulled his hair back - sumo-wrestler style. He didn't seem to mind. In fact, I think it was the first time he's been able to see in weeks. =)

We need to put an emergency call into Aunt Chris today and see if she has any appointments coming up. It was funny that after I took out the rubber band that Liam's hair stayed in the upright position.

So let's go back - way back - to 2001 - the event: my senior prom. I was just becoming the budding photographer I am today, and took a gazillion stellar pictures, but I'll only bore you with these two:

Four years later, I graduated from college - pretty momentous in this day in age, where a 5 year degree is becoming a normal thing - and I changed majors halfway through! Here's a lovely shot of my grandmother and I on that special, hot, crowded day:

A few minutes later (okay maybe I'm exaggerating, but not by much, in fact the trip may have even been before my actual graduation, I don't remember) my dad and his fiance and I took a trip to Wurzburg, Germany to visit my grandfather and well see the sights. The whole town was gorgeous and quaint and perfect. I would love love love to go back, and then maybe stay... I loved the cobblestone streets that were literally everywhere, the small little food stands and village shops - even the commercialized sections of town felt terribly chic and trendy compared to the average American mall. In short, I <3 Europe.

So then of course my father was nice and married his wonderful fiance - this is a shot from their special day:

Aren't they adorable? They married in what I refer to as our "hometown" despite neither of us having spent a permanent amount of time there ever (we're kind of a military family at heart even when not in practice). My dad dated this poor woman for about 7 years before finally consenting to marriage - i.e. she's a saint.

It seems like the very next day I was engaged (it was actually several months later if you must know). I remember dH popping the question nervously on a cloudy overcast day after a yummy meal at the Olive Garden. I then later went home for a photo session with my new "rock" or "ice" or whatever you kids are calling it these days.

Planning a family reunion which just happens to be taking place a month after I'm due to have this baby. No real help from anyone and people aren't paying the $ for the reunion dinner.

I got my hair cut and colored. It's brown now or mocha as the stylist called it. lol I also had bangs cut and my hair looks like this girls: http://girlsgonechild.blogspot.com/ I think she is gorgeous. I don't think I pull off the look.

Got a bunch of swag from my inlaws. When I asked why I was getting goodies the answer: Because you're having a baby. So by my math: stay married + have more babies = more presents?

1. Style your hair before going to the salon. When you arrive at the salon, we want to see your hair the way you normally style it. We want to see your abilities, so that when we design a hair style, you can actually do it yourself. You don't want to get a haircut and then get home and you can't manage it.
2. You should never do a consultation with wet hair. The consultation is the most important thing and it's when the biggest mistakes happen. We want to see your hair when it's dry, what the texture feels like, if there are any colics or other qualities we might not detect when the hair is wet.
3. Show your stylist photos of hairstyles you like. It's not about trying to look like a celebrity, but about saying "This is what I like," so everyone's on the same page.
4. Posture is important during a cut. When you cross your legs, you tend to lean in one direction. Keep your legs uncrossed and sit up straight. Otherwise, you might end up with a crooked haircut. And you need to have your head flexible, but not so wobbly like a bobblehead doll.
5. Speak up when you're not happy with the haircut. Salons don't always get it right. Don't be afraid to say something if you don't like the cut. The hair salon wants you to come back, so they want to make sure they provide you with a cut and style that you love.

My husband has never made a secret out of his preference for long hair. As long as I gave him the power, I either kept it long, or in a moment of daring cut it myself or had it cut, prepared to bear the brunt of his disapproval.

Those days are over. It is my head and my hair! (But no, I don't intend to cut off my head!!) No one has the right to decide for me, nor are they entitled to be angry or make me feel bad if I prefer short hair. It has gotten shorter over the years (from waist-length to shoulders), but lately I've felt a strong urge for change. Funny how that is often reflected in our hair.

I cut it myself again - chin length, but decided to have the hairdresser give it some form. Thus I set out on what was to become a fateful Tuesday. I decided to try again on Thursday. (I think it was Thursday!!) Anyway, I told her what I wanted, then as she washed my hair, I thought: "No, I want it really short!" So that's what I told her to do. I am pleased. My husband didn't dare say anything negative, because I don't give him that power anymore. His approval does not determine my self-worth. With the hair I feel like I let go of excess baggage. I feel free.

My son came home from school, looked at me and asked if I'd been to the hairdresser. He knew I'd been snipping away the past few days (before the accident). I couldn't resist saying, "No. Papa was mowing the lawn. I tripped and fell down, and he mowed over my head." That may sound awful, but he and I share a rather strange humor, which I appreciate very much.

Fondy cut my hair last night and it was about time too as I had begun to resemble a cross between Gary Oldman’s Dracula and that guy from Flock of Seagulls. She’d been busy of late dealing with business matters and, as a result, my once trim do had gradually deteriorated to the capillary equivalent of a neglected lawn, all sprouted tufts, flat patches, and potential nesting spots for marsh hawks. I consider myself fortunate that she did get around to it as things were looking touch and go earlier in the day due, in no small part, to my big mouth. “I picked up blueberry juice,”I enlightened her as we returned home from our trip to the grocery store. “It’s sweet. Not like your goji juice that burns your throat.” (A reference to the box of “miracle berry” juice that had sat unopened for months since its purchase and was presently serving as an impromptu plant stand.) Fondy threw me the look she usually reserves for squeegee kids and Air Canada employees, prompting me to qualify: “But that’s how you know it’s working!” Having, I thought, nicely acquitted myself, I hurried inside to avoid further conversation.

I greeted the dogs, ate a half a peanut butter cookie, and then proceeded with the pre-hair-cutting ritual of washing my hair, setting up the folding chair in the basement, and patiently awaiting the arrival of my coiffeuse. Fondy is a former hairdresser and does a great job, but she is meticulous and takes her time. Once, I brought along a book to read and she was greatly offended that I would choose to zone her out. So now, instead, I sit quietly in the chair while she silently cuts my hair.

As we got started, I made a modest request: “Not too short.”

“I heard you the first time,”she rejoined. I wanted to point out that “the first time” was actually several days ago, but I thought it best not to say anything since her scissors were dangerously close to my right ear.

And, twenty minutes later, we were done. “It’s short,”she informed me the way a drycleaner might notify someone that their 2 for 1 coupon expired last year. That’s the way it is, bud. I don’t want any argument from you.

“But my mom likes it long,”I protested in an admittedly lame attempt to salvage the principal of my argument. I was headed to Montreal on Saturday to visit with family and my mother had always been a very vocal critic of my preference for short hair. She favored longer hair on me as evidenced by the fact that, throughout my elementary school years, I was occasionally mistaken for a girl. Oddly enough, mom preferred shorter hair on my sister who was sometimes mistaken for my little brother. Whenever we siblings needled each other, she was Andy and I became Josephine.

“Your mother’s hair is shorter than yours. She shouldn’t be complaining.”

In truth, my request had had less to do with mom’s partialities than it did with my desire to go with a different look. I’d been doing the short hair and suit thing for ages. It was time for a little variety like, say, longer hair with jeans and a t-shirt or shaved head with monocle, walking stick, and a propensity for using terms like “knackered”, “cracking!” and “luvvly-jubbly“. I’m sure you’ll agree that there’s nothing more unconvincing that some short-haired guy in a suit trying to pull off “luvvly-jubbly”.

All that said, even though it is shorter than I would have liked, it is a cracking haircut. And while mom may not be wholly pleased, at least she’ll be able to tell me apart from Gary Oldman’s Dracula.

Today’s entry is, appropriately enough, dedicated to Whovian celebrating her 15 year wedding anniversary.

Retractions: I stand corrected! Apparently crickets are on the menu at Vij’s. Daring culinary trailblazing are stupid publicity stunt. You decide - because I won’t. Also, the Greek Day stilt-walker pictured was not, I repeat, NOT an elf as previously cited. She was a fairy.

Well, ’ll be on the road all of next week eating my way through Montreal (my sister is already making the reservations) and while I’ll certainly keep this blog updated, I’m not so sure I’ll be able to get around to the mailbag. So, before I head off and start packing…

Answer: I enjoyed Miyazaki’s work, especially Spirited Away. There’s a movie called Tekkonkinkreet that I just picked up. I haven’t watched it yet but I have heard very good things about it. If you enjoy Satoshi, you might want to give Paranoia Agent a try. Answer: Every Stargate director had a signature piece they liked to work into every episode. In Martin Wood’s case, it was the big wrench. In Peter DeLuise’s case, it was himself. In Will Waring’s case, it’s the pineapple. According to Will, it started when he was an up and coming camera operator. The director of the low budget movie he was working on asked him to do a little on camera performance - simply drive his car through the shot. He did but, unbeknownst to him, there was a pineapple rattling around in the back window. No one else seemed to notice and, thinking it was kind of funny, Will decided to make it his signature. All well and good until he was working on a comedy and included a pineapple as a background piece. When the director saw it in the dailies, he went berserk and chewed Will out. He was beside himself until the star of the move, Danny Devito, asked him what was up. The director explained and Devito responded with: “I think it’s funny.” Well, if Danny Devito thought it was funny, then it was funny enough for the director. Not only did they keep the pineapple in the shot, they used it as a recurring motif throughout the rest of the movie (culminating in, I believe, a pineapple beach stand in the closing scene). So, if you ever see Will’s name in the credits, start playing spot the pineapple.

Answer: Nah. Nothing beats the real thing. Paul’s wife was telling him about a Japanese Game show her family used to watch in Switzerland. Contestants would roll beneath an open tiger’s cage with a piece of raw meat strapped to their chests. Those who made it all the way through (presumably meat and chest intact) would win a trip to Hawaii. “Did anybody ever get injured?”I asked her. “Oh, all the time,”she assured me. Now THAT’S entertainment!

Answer: Nice try.

Answer: Search and Rescue was the first episode shot when we returned for season 5. Continuity was important, which is why Jason had to have his dreads painstakingly reattached. To date, this is how we have operated since, more often than not, we don’t know whether or not we’re coming back when we finish episode #20 of a given season.

Answer: I stand corrected. I approve most of the publicity stuff. I have no say on the network promos and stills. And, by the way, that was SciFi not MGM.
