From Time Magazine

The wife of Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel plans to endorse Democrat Barack Obama.

Lilibet Hagel has scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday with Susan Eisenhower, the daughter of Republican President Eisenhower.

Hagel, R-Neb., has made no endorsement. Lilibet Hagel said in an Associated Press interview that her decision was independent of her husband. She said she didn't know whether he would make an endorsement or whom he would support.

"You'd have to ask him," Lilibet Hagel said.

She said it will be her first endorsement of a Democrat and that perilous world conditions were a factor.

"The fact is we're in two wars, two of the longest we've ever been in. We've run up a third of our nation's debt in just the past eight years. We're in the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression," she said.

The Hagels know John and Cindy McCain, and she said her endorsement was not meant to slam them.

"This isn't anti-McCain. This is pro-Obama. I'm just convinced he's the right person," she said.

The Hagels vote in Nebraska, but they have lived in Washington's Virginia suburbs since Hagel won his first Senate term in 1996.

A moderate Republican and veteran wounded in combat in the Vietnam War, Hagel has been a fierce and credible critic of the Bush administration's Iraq policies. During the summer, he accompanied Obama and Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island to Iraq and Afghanistan. He was briefly the object of speculation as a possible surprise Obama running mate selection.

Hagel has decided not to seek a third Senate term. thanks to Time Magazine.

I'm an exchange/erasmus student."

The Exploding Fish. Dolle pret, improviseren is altijd leuk.

As dday points out, he's no Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, so nobody's going to pay attention, but here you go:

Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, a maverick Republican from Maryland, endorsed Illinois Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president in an interview Wednesday with WYPR, Baltimore's National Public Radio station.

Gilchrest, who lost a primary campaign and is retiring from Congress, has already endorsed the Democrat running for his seat, Frank Kratovil. Justifying his endorsement of Obama, Gilchrest said that "we can't use four more years of the same kind of policy that's somewhat haphazard, which leads to recklessness."

Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), "have the breadth of experience. I think they're prudent. They're knowledgable."

A maverick isn't endorsing McMaverick? Maybe Gilchrest is a real maverick, like Chuck Hagel, who's all but endorsed Obama.

Have you noticed how not many Republican media types are clamoring to shill for McCain on the teevee? Many of them are just choosing to stay silent, it seems.

Oh, dear. John, John, John ... I still don't know how to feel about your girl there. Opinion pending. But I liked Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska) when I researched him as part of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Illinois) short-list for veep before he chose Sen. Joe Biden (D-Delaware). Obama might have had me, to be honest, since I was really hoping for a bipartisan ticket. After hearing Biden speak earlier this week in Maumee (a post analyzing that is scheduled for this weekend) I still am wavering among the reeds of my other moderate voters who wish we would piece together a third ticket we like better than the ones either party is offering us

Anyway, there's not question what Hagel thinks of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's (R-Arizona) decision to choose Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska became the nation's most prominent Republican officeholder to publicly question whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has the experience to serve as president.

"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview published Thursday by the Omaha World-Herald. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say."

Could Palin lead the country if GOP presidential nominee John McCain could not? "I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president," he said.

McCain and other Republicans have defended Palin's qualifications, citing Alaska's proximity to Russia. Palin told ABC News, "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

Hagel took issue with that. "I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,'" he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

Sorry...no sarcasm intended.

Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said his party's vice-presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, lacks foreign policy experience and called it a "stretch" to say she's qualified to be president.

"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview published Thursday by the Omaha World-Herald. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.

Hagel, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in July and had said he would have considered serving as Obama's running mate.

Seems the Palin-ization of American is beginning to fade.

From NBC's Mark Murray :

In an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) suggested that Palin doesn't have the foreign-policy experience to be president. "'She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials,' Hagel said in an interview. 'You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything.'"

Check out this other Hagel line: "'I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, "I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,"' he said. 'That kind of thing is insulting to the American people.'"

And this one: "'I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States,' Hagel said."

Finallly, one of the few Republican leaders that has come forward and acknowledged what I would bet "a lot" of his colleagues are thinking. Be honest, when McCain made the announcement of Sarah Palin as his running mate, do you think the phone lines were burning up around Washington with politicians screaming "GREAT PICK!!". I would bet there were a lot of representatives and senators that all said the same thing my family did..."WHO?".

Thanks for the honesty Sen. Hagel! Maybe McCain should have picked you.

I'm getting a little tired of the likes of Chuck Hagel and Colin Powell, people who clearly want to endorse Obama and who will probably vote for Obama, but are too scared to put it on the line and put country first with an actual endorsement. Here are some quotes from Hagel yesterday slamming Sarah Palin:

"She doesn't have any foreign policy credentials," Hagel said in an interview. "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,'" he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.

Okay, so we know how you feel. And the quotes are nice. But how about taking the next step and...ENDORSING?! I share none of the worry that concern trolls have who say they don't want the endorsements of the likes of Hagel and Powell. Well, then you don't want to win either, because these endorsements would be huge, conversation-making news that would dominate the press coverage and narrative for a day or two. I'll take that in a minute.

But I'm getting tired of the dance. Put your country first guys, we know whom you're voting for.

Keine Chance.

Soviel mal zum Wetter.

Barack Obama is ready to announce his running mate.
There’s a media whirlwind of speculation

Barack Obama is ready to announce his running mate.

There's a media whirlwind of speculation gathering around Joe Biden. Like Fay ... it too will pass. The Delaware Democrat isn't likely to be the choice. He's smart, but with a trail of gaffes almost as long as his three dozen years in the Senate. Remember the one about Indians and 7-Elevens. Or, the one involving the candidate himself ... in which he mused that Obama was the first "clean cut" black to make a serious run for president. Biden may be the pit bull Obama needs to go on the attack. But, like a pit bull, Biden is probably too difficult to control.

Old line media types like Sam Nunn. Please. Barack Obama isn't picking the former Georgia Senator. He's a one issue man (nuclear proliferation) who's out of the loop on everything else. I'm guessing Sam Nunn was a fine dinner guest back in the day. Old line media types like fine dinner guests.

Evan Bayh's name is mentioned a lot. He brings only mythical strengths to the table. I love the one about him helping Obama carry Indiana in November. Doubtful. And, Bayh is anti-energy. His position of barely upright won't do much to win over swing voters. He's allegedly full of experience. And, his judgment led him to a calculated alignment with Hillary Clinton, designed to win him the VP nod. Only problem ... she lost.

Let's get serious.

Obama could decide to be daring. Chuck Hagel would fit the bill. Picking an anti-war Republican would ruffle some feathers in the near term, but in the end, probably do more to solidify Obama's image as not the typical politician. So, we'll call Hagel a plus.

Kathleen Sebelius is a better choice. But, she's not worth the trouble. Obama would have to suffer the whining of still angry Hillary supporters, who've staked out the illogical position that picking any woman other than the Queen would be a slap in the face. So much for women's rights and judging each person on his or her merits. Basic fairness doesn't apply in the eyes of the pro-Hillary crowd, as if I needed to tell you that.

Dorothy is probably staying in Kansas. Probably good for Obama because McCain could outflank the pick with Sarah Palin. Alaska would likely win the battle of female governors on the debate stage, for a whole host of reasons.

So, it's Tim Kaine. Like Obama ... He's relatively young ... just three years older. He's new on the scene ... in his only term as Virginia governor. And, without decades of political experience ... so no truckloads of troublesome votes. Kaine is said to speak fluent Spanish ... a skill the media types say could prove helpful with one of Obama's troublesome demographics. Being Catholic is a plus in this regard as well. He's kind of a Southerner. And, Kaine's selection would reinforce Obama's message of change. Joe Biden can't do that.

It's Clinton/Gore for a new century ... Obama/Kaine. And, lots of tongue slips in the media as Kaine/McCain confusion reaches an all-time high.

TISDAG:Jag fäljde me & handlade till hotellet me Pelle & Christer (min "bonuspappa"), två proppfulla vagnar blev de!

I’ve considered the upcoming presidential election for some time and I have finally decided who my candidate is: Chuck Hagel, Senator from Nebraska.

I’ve never been to Nebraska but if I were to go I am sure I’d like it because I’d find more people there like Chuck Hagel. Hagel has all the requirements for the presidency; he’s a Vietnam Vet against the war in Iraq, he’s fiscally conservative but has shown a reasonable temperament on social issues, he’s a self made millionaire, he seems to have a good sense of humor.

That last part must be key for anyone who wants to keep his or her sanity in that pressure cooker job known as the President of the United States. Of course, Bush is funny… just not on purpose.

I’ve liked Hagel since I read an article about him in the New Yorker last year. Based on what I read, I began to look at him a bit more. I had hoped he would run for the Republican nomination but he’s too smart and independent for the power brokers of the GOP. He’s also not a favorite of the religious right, another reason for me to like him. I read on the MOMocrats blog that he even used the word "impeachment" when questioned about his reaction to the posibility of Bush/Cheney declaring war on Iran. That’s a ballsy move from even a “maverick” Republican.

Of course, Senator Hagel is not running for president but there is a possibility that he could be the Vice Presidential candidate for either party. I have some doubts about Obama and I have way more doubts, I’d call them serious doubts, about McCain. Both are decent guys at heart but is either one really the guy you want to have in the White House? Hagel could be a deal breaker. I don’t think McCain is smart or gutsy enough to think about Hagel. I don’t think Obama has the cajones to make a Republican his #2. I’ve been telling my friends that the selection of the VP candidates would weigh heavily on my vote. I’m declaring right now that the candidate that selects Chuck for his running mate is getting my vote.

A few folks have decided that Americans might have a problem in recent legislation. Clearly, whether

A few folks have decided that Americans might have a problem in recent legislation. Clearly, whether you prefer it or not, the likes of Al Gore appear to be steering the country. This infuriates a lot of people, notably conservatives, a few independents as well as national sovereignty lovers. Congress is proposing with the capable participation of Barack Obama, the Global Poverty Act (S.2433, based on H.R. 1302). Not a few Americans, many conservatives included, believe that Americans will be delivered into a state of indentured servitude as laborers for the United Nations with this bill enacted as law. Is this notion an overreaction? On the surface, it certainly appears so.

The Global Poverty Act is co-sponsored by Republican Richard Lugar of Indiana and Democrat Senators Barack Obama, Joseph Biden, Maria Cantwell, Chris Dodd, Dick Durbin, Russ Feingold, Dianne Feinstein, Charles Hagel, and Robert Mendez. Based on the participation of John McCain in bipartisan legislation, it is surprising that John McCain isn't a supporter as well. Undoubtedly, this is another puzzle piece of legislation that suggests a declining difference between parties is close to being fully realized by the nation on multiple fronts. You can also like a presidential candidate without agreeing on everything they do. That is the thorny place that many Americans find themselves in today.

The language of the bill is fairly straightforward and unpretentious on the surface. The bipartisan bill, if adopted, would require the president "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the U.S. foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal.

The wording of the bill seems to be well thought out and truly appears simplistic. The wording and intention of the bill appears to a good thing for humanity, easy to bite off on. In the world that we live in, words still mean something, however. The devil is in the details as the saying goes.

First, the bill dictates function on the President of the United States. This is a curious action to require the cooperation of the president to go along with what is ostensibly the heartfelt devotion of Congressional lawmakers combined with the desires of the United Nations. If the president sees a problem with legislation that is induced by lawmakers or perhaps by the United Nations, he is duty-bound to cooperate in the name of global poverty legislation. Keep in mind that this is a federal law, not a treaty. Of course, this is simply theory, considering that words actually mean something.

The policy goals of "Millennium Development Goal" is what is probably the most comprehensive global anti-poverty program ever created, painted with 8 simple and elegant goals. They sound so good that you want to love them. While there are concerns by many, some organizations paint the bill as no more than a redirection and focus of current efforts by the United States toward global poverty with no additional money being spent. This is designed to allay the fears of those that question whether the United States has plenty of money to go around during a time of intense economic malaise during a time of financial confidence issues. Many conservative groups herald this bill as one of the largest pork-barrel projects of all time, a project that this country has no control over combined with required financing based of gross national product. Without question, it is a major wealth redistribution project.

The United States does have some control. This country elects to be a member of the U.N. by choice, including the support of that membership. However, the point is aptly made, especially since the United States is quickly becoming a lesser country than in the past. Even U.N. policy takes the future reality as the current reality, without factoring such complexities as inflation or declining economies other than already impoverished ones. As a result of declining economic strength in this nation, U.N. sanctions against this country for non-cooperation might actually have an effect, should the situation warrant such a stand. All of this depends on the future global strength of the U.N.

What does the documentary evidence suggest? While the wording of the U.N. documentation is somewhat complex, clearly the GNP target for all countries is .7 percent of the gross national product.

Does the Millenium Development Goal promise to solve the problem of global poverty? Hardly.

Regardless of how the money is gathered to pay for this innocuous-sounding legislation, it is clearly a commitment on the part of the United States and other U.N. member countries that are willing to support it. Whether the means supports the end solution is a question that only you can answer. This logical writing mind doesn't see the need for legislation to give support to U.N. measures that the national hierarchy wants to support.

My suggestion is that you review the links to this article and write your state lawmakers accordingly. If you want to make a stand against this legislation, you have little time to do so. The appearance is that this legislation will pass. A simple yes-no, no role-call vote will be taken in typical non-accountable Congressional fashion. Still, your voice, pro or con, can strongly influence your Senator or Representative and may turn the tide if Americans still care about more than what is going on today. ~ E. Manning

If you have been feeling down and blue with no explanation lately don’t fear. Not yet Presiden

If you have been feeling down and blue with no explanation lately don't fear. Not yet President Barack Obama has left the country. He recently embarked on a world tour, focusing on the Middle East and Europe. That explains your recent sadness.

Also if you somehow realized that Brian Williams, Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson have been replaced this week, well Barack invited them along. What about me Barack? If you want St. John's University's most influential blogger on your side you damn well better take me along next time!

Now there is a lot of media attention to this tour. If he screws up it'll be everywhere. I recommend he doesn't eat the Wendy's Baconator in Baghdad. Let's see if he screws up.

So Senator Chuck Hagel went along with Barack Obama to Afghanistan to meet with President Hamid Karzai. Below is a picture of Senator Hagel with President Karzai.

So his meeting with Hamid Karzai went well, he didn't screw anything up. But surely he'll make some sort of mistake, maybe he'll screw up the name of a city or a country.

Yea... like that. The Iraq - Pakistan border. Otherwise known as Iran.....

Good example John.

But back to Barack, he's gotta screw up soon. Well he's going to play basketball with the troops in Kuwait. Maybe he'll pull a Kerry moment while snowboarding or windsurfing. This is the GOP's chance to make him look like a fool.

He... sank a three pointer. On the first shot.

Well that's not important, he met with Iraqi PM Nouri Al Maliki. He'll probably screw something up there.

Well it seems that Mr. Maliki, agrees with Obama on the Iraq troop withdrawal plan. But come on, what does he know about Iraq? He's only the PM! So he didn't screw up relations with Iraq, he might have actually improved them. Wow that's impressive.

It seems he also met with General Petraeus. That guy in the picture above. They apparently talked about the current situation on the ground. Seems they have to have some sort of disagreement on the time table. I'm sure they can work it out. They look like BFF's right now.

Ok well Iraq and Afghanistan went well. There's still Jordan! He flew to Amman to meet with King Abdullah.

Ah ha! He screwed up! We got him! It seems that Obama is not scared of bullets as he refuses to wear his Flak Jacket and instead decided to carry it. Haha! Perfect he is not. Unless his skin is not penetrated by bullets. In that case well then... I... well... there's not much you can say about that.

Ok last chance to screw up in the Middle East. Israel! If he screws up here, he can start World War III. Let's see how he handles it.

Son of a b*tch. He had a Press Conference in Israel and nothing went wrong. It seems as if the media will have nothing to report on. Those two other guys in the background must be his bodyguards, because I see them everywhere on this trip with him, but I've yet to hear them talk. Oh and apparently, those two guys in the background are Senators! They don't talk much for Senators.

Ok well he didn't screw up the Middle East. He's already done a better job than our current President. Ok well he still needs to go to Berlin and meet with Angela Merkel. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Barack Obama spoke to a small crowd in Germany today.

A small crowd of only 200,000,000 people!

It is safe to say that Barack Obama has effectively ended the reign of the Giant American Flag Burning Corporation. The Europeans love Barack Obama! You only need to see how they responded to his inevitable nomination. This man untouchable! This man has yet to screw something up. Meanwhile John McCain responded in kind to his speech with a carefully planned, well executed press conference in a supermarket. Check it out:

Well done sir.... well done.

To describe the results another way:

Joe Biden - 24%

Gore and Sebelius - tied for second at 16% each

Hillary - 11%

Powell and Bayh - tied for fourth at 8% each

Also Rans: Richardson, McCaskill, Kaine and Buffet

Write-ins: Chuck Hagel and Mark Warner

Off Radar: Dodd

What do the results mean? Let's break them down.

Biden. What is it about Biden that has landed him the top spot in the last two RKR polls? He's a plain-speaking senator raised modestly in Scranton, PA, and remains fairly middle class compared to his fellow aristocratic senators. Roman Catholic. Very experienced in foreign affairs. Can speak very forcefully when he wants to. Those are all good things and I'm sure he'd be an asset on the ticket. Biden carries some risks, however, and I think Obama could do better. Biden can frequently disappoint by shading his responses with a wink and a nod to conventional wisdom, seemingly in an effort to not cause offense and maintain relationships inside the beltway. He's hardly an outsider, both literally and in terms of temperament. He also has a tendency to drone on and on - an abiding passion for the sound of his own voice. And this lack of verbal discipline can lead to inadvertent gaffes, like when he called Obama "clean and articulate" during the primaries. My gut says make him Secretary of State, which would play to his strengths and mitigate his risks.

Gore. Gore reaffirmed as recently as today at the Netroots Nation conference that he will not be Obama's Veep. I think I finally believe him. He wants to transform political support for fighting climate change into a truly bipartisan issue, and thinks he has a better chance of doing that from his current perch outside of government.

Sebelius. Sebelius is an attractive choice. A second term red state governor who won reelection overwhelmingly in 2006, she shares the Obama vision for working across the partisan aisle. She's strongly pro-choice. She has a temperament of calm, cool confidence that would be very compatible with Obama's style. On the con side, she has no foreign policy or national security street cred. But that may not matter if Obama's trip abroad is successful (which I believe it will be), and if Obama gives an early hint of who will be in his cabinet. I don't put a lot of stock into the MSM line that "Hillary's supporters will be outraged if a woman other than Hillary is picked." I think many women will love Sebelius when they get to know her. But that segues to her greatest weakness -- she's not very well known outside of Kansas. Yes, she's known in the key swing states of neighboring Missouri and in Ohio (where her father was a governor), but she would need to be "introduced" to most Americans. Obama is still doing this himself, and can't really afford a Veep that hasn't been on the national stage at all. I also give some credence to the notion that the ticket should not have "too many firsts" (i.e., the first African American president and the first female VP (Ferraro was a VP nominee but didn't win)), but Hillary's success has made this less of a risk.

Hillary. Hillary did surprisingly well in this poll. My guess is her showing was motivated by two sides of the same coin: her continued political strength. One side is represented by her genuine supporters who want to see her on the ticket. The other side is more practical, giving her the position to take advantage of her popularity, particularly among segments where Obama is less popular, and unify the party for victory. Having said that, I still think the risk of picking Hillary outweighs the benefits. First, she brings along the former president, which means drama and controversy. Second, she remains a divisive figure and brings along memories of the partisan battles of the 90s, which will awaken an otherwise demoralized GOP base. Third, she brings her dysfunctional staff, who would then leak to the press every perceived indignity and grievance - which is the polar opposite of Obama's campaign management style. Finally, and most importantly, she conflicts with the fundamental essence of Obama's message: transformative change. She and her husband represent the past as much as McCain.

Powell. Powell would be a gift to the MSM. They would give Powell's selection obsessive cable news coverage for days. Although tarnished a bit by his role in the Bush Administration, he remains one of the most popular Americans (not just politicians) overall. His presence on the ticket would completely nuke the one area where McCain is perceived to have an advantage: national security/foreign affairs. How many other living Americans have a military doctrine named after them? As a con, like Sebelius, it would be combining "two firsts" by having two African Americans on the ticket, but those who would be most alienated by this are not Obama voters anyway. It also serves the theme of transformative, post-partisan change, given that Powell served in Democratic and Republican administrations. He carries the risk of alienating Obama's Left base, who view him suspiciously for his role in an administration that tortured enemy combatants. He would have some explaining to do. Would he take the job? Don't know, but his son Michael, the former FCC Chairman, is actively supporting McCain.

Bayh. Bayh is like a male Sebelius in some ways - a calm, cool Democrat who's been very successful in a very red state. Unlike Sebelius, Bayh brings foreign policy/national security experience. He's better known than Sebelius, but is still not exactly a national figure. Picking him might alienate Obama's Left flank, which is still smarting over Obama's support for the FISA compromise, because of Bayh's leadership in the DLC (although he's no Joe Lieberman). He hails from a state that McCain simply cannot afford to lose, mathematically. What some may find boring (and I would agree), others in the Midwest may find attractive, stylistically. The Midwest is where elections are won and lost. He could help Obama in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan, and if he does, it's game over for McCain. His gubernatorial experience is critical in a contest where the economy is the defining issue. Also, as a former Hillary supporter, his selection might send a "unity" message as well.

The Also Rans. Kaine is finishing his first and only term as Virginia governor (Virginia has a mandatory one-term term limit for governors). He and Obama are friends and would be very compatible. He's Roman Catholic and speaks fluent Spanish. But he's unknown outside of Virginia, and while he's reasonably popular in Virginia, even within the state he's not nearly as popular as his Democratic predecessor, Mark Warner. He would not guarantee carrying the state, but Obama may win it without him anyway. He's also said some things about abortion that will alienate some pro-choice women, and conversely, he's spoken against the death penalty in ways that will make him vulnerable to attacks from the right. No foreign policy/national security experience. Bottom line, as a relative novice, he compounds Obama's vulnerability as a first term senator. The same could be said of McCaskill -- someone who would be very compatible with Obama but as a rookie senator, actually could do more harm than good by rendering the ticket the "rookie duo." I tossed Warren Buffett in there as a wild card given the terrible economy and his perceived genius as an investor. But he's even older than McCain (yes, that's possible). I don't see it happening.

The Write-Ins. Mark Warner made a Shermanesque statement that he is running exclusively for the U.S. Senate this year and does not want to be considered for the VP slot. I believe him. Chuck Hagel is far too conservative on every other issue besides Iraq to be Obama's VP. He might have had a chance six months ago when Iraq was the biggest issue in the campaign, but the economy is now the top issue. Perhaps he could serve in an Obama Administration as part of his national security team, or as Secretary of the V.A., but not as his Veep.

My guess? Bayh.
