TOP FIVE DISNEY CONTROVERSIES

Over the years (especially beginning with the Disney renaissance of the early 90's) people have been reporting obscene and inappropriate material hidden within several Disney films. Most of these accusations came from kids who would watch these movies over and over again on VHS. How the kids would even understand such content is beyond me, but lets have a look.

5. "Good Teenagers, Take Off Your Clothes!"

From: Aladdin (1993)

With a genie and a magic lamp, it's hard to imagine a teenage boy not wanting some hooters. Even the folks at Disney knew this, or so they say. According to an indistinguishable line of dialog and a couple of dirty minds, Prince Ali Ababwa wants "good teenagers" to "take off their clothes!" Have a listen for yourself!

4. "Nude woman in The Rescuers"

From: The Rescuers (1977)

It will take more than a team of good natured mice to rescue this film from the chopping block. Disney got a lot of flack from this film when a 1999 home video release contained a subliminal message. Apparently, during a high speed chase sequence, the image of a topless woman appears in the background for a split second. We'll let you be the judge.

3. "Phallic image on VHS cover"

From: The Little Mermaid (1989)

Whoever designed this undersea castle was probably a spokesman for Viagra. If you look closely at the artwork on the VHS release of this Disney classic, a phallic type structure is clearly seen in a portion of the castle. Disney claims that it was a mistake. They did not intend the image to resemble a phallus. Sure.

2. "Baby Herman flips the bird"

From: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

In the opening scene of this critically acclaimed marriage of live action and animation, Baby Herman allegedly sticks his middle finger up a woman's dress. The discovery of this frame of animation resulted in many more accusations, including a racist Donald Duck remark, a nude frame of Jessica Rabbit, a dirty message written on the bathroom wall in Toon Town, and drawings of people being murdered on a train. Sounds like these animators wanted to make a different kind of film.

1. "S-E-X"

From: The Lion King (1994)

One of the most infamous Disney urban legends is the appearance of the word "sex" in a scene from The Lion King. Most of this story's public awareness comes from the fact that The Lion King is Disney's most popular film. Some claim it's just a message from the special effects team (S-F-X), but the more perverted viewers see the letters (S-E-X). What do you see?

3. ¿Amor a toda costa?

Francamente!

MARK THIESSEN | October 10, 2008 04:48 PM EST | AP

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A judge has ordered the state of Alaska to preserve any government-related e-mails that Gov. Sarah Palin sent from private accounts.

Anchorage Superior Court Judge Craig Stowers ruled Friday in the lawsuit brought by Anchorage resident Andree McLeod against Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Palin has occasionally used private e-mail accounts to conduct state business, and her Yahoo accounts were hacked last month. The hacking of Palin's private account was significant because it showed that using private e-mail accounts to conduct state business would be vulnerable to being exposed.

It wasn't widely known that the governor and her staff were using private e-mail accounts until McLeod filed the first of several open records requests earlier this year that yielded some of the e-mail traffic _ much of it redacted for what were deemed privacy reasons.

The judge ordered the attorney general to contact Yahoo and other private carriers to preserve any e-mails sent and received on those accounts. If the e-mails were destroyed when the accounts were deactivated, he directed state officials to have the companies attempt to resurrect the e-mails.

"We shouldn't be in a position where public records have been lost because the governor didn't do what every other state employee knows to do, which is to use an official, secure state e-mail account to conduct state business," McLeod said after the 90-minute hearing.

"It's a dereliction of the governor and her duties," she said.

Assistant Attorney General Mike Mitchell told the court that the governor is no longer using private e-mail to conduct state business.

Stowers ordered e-mails of Palin's staff members who used private accounts to be preserved, as well. Mitchell was unsure if these other employees had also stopped using the private accounts.

Palin's e-mail account with Yahoo Inc. was compromised last month by a hacker who revealed as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since John McCain selected her as his running mate.

Palin used "gov.sarah" in one of the Yahoo e-mail addresses she sometimes used to conduct state business. The hacker targeted her separate "gov.palin" account. Both have been shut down.

She loves how TV barges into her brain, shredding any other thought. She loves how all ideas are lost to commercials. She loves how she has already written her blog post in civics, so the TV can blare as much as it wants, for she will not be disrupted.

Pride gushed through her, dissolving the uncertain. Adrenaline, energy, and contentment swirled together to pump her blood. Her heart pounded and with every thump words resonated in her mind.

Writing.

Smiling.

You're good.

Scratch that, grinning.

Thump.

She'll never stop.

She felt like running out of pure joy. Twirling, laughing, singing, and then, when her pride had dwindled, back to the paper. Back to writing in her civics class. Let the teacher's words wash over her without absorbing a thing. Just write.

This was her fate.

She would not slump in a cubicle and let her life slowly become unraveled by financial nonsense.

She would not allow money to appear appetizing.

She would not let her imagination go by unnoticed.

She slipped her hand into God's and together they turned to face the world. A smile curved her lips.

This is my fate.

In the month of May, she had composed a story for the Bayou Writer’s Group Contest. A few days

In the month of May, she had composed a story for the Bayou Writer's Group Contest. A few days ago in the mail, she received a scrap of paper claiming she had placed in the top three winners.

A smug look followed.

Today, with the smugness drowned by nerves, she walked into the downtown library where she would read her story in front of the Bayou Writer's Group. Translation: she would stammer her poor writings while elderly authors all-knowing of the English language would cast their looks on her, judging every word she uttered. God.

And then the whole appearance ordeal. This was a "conference." Did these writers dress causally or formally? Everyone judged by first impressions. Not toying with the idea for long, she decided on jeans and this presentable shirt. She was a teenager; she should be able to pull this off, right?

She entered the library, nausea creeping upward, and felt slightly relived. Her Converse would cut it. Minutes slugged by, and she determined who the other two contest winners were. One was girl cloaked in a dark dress---a dressfor heaven's sake; she immediately felt under dressed---and an athletic girl porting a t-shirt and nice shorts. She stood on middle ground.

The members had notebooks placed neatly beside them, pen in hand, ready to jot down any information. She felt tempted to take a rendez-vous to Office Depot and purchase a nice notebook container she had no need of. The members took a tour with their names and what they wrote, and she was shocked to find that many had publications. What did she have? Just a dream.

Finally a woman who sat next to her stood up and explained what the contestants had to do for the competition. She showed what they would receive for placing in the top three, and then announced the third place winner.

Come on, say my name. I know it will be me. I'll accept that. The other girls will win. I..

But the woman didn't say her name. The t-shirt girl was third. Her eyes flicked to the girl in the dress. Would it be she, or her? The girl had said she'd published a story in a magazine. Snap. What had she ever done? Win second place in a fifth grade writing contest? Yeah.

The third place winner's story was indeed good. Metaphors appeared frequently and she thought the girl should look into poetry. Once she had finished, everyone applauded politely and waited for the woman to announce the second place winner.

Now it will be me. I can't beat that chick who has already published something. Second place. Fate. Sigh.

But her name never came.

Her stomach dropped.

No.

Really?

No.

Yes.

A grin spread across her face. Her? Win? First place? Her? Her? Yes. Her.

The girl in the dress's story was extremely good as well. Her writing was very descriptive, and she found it much like her own.

And then it was her turn. She looked at the floor while the woman rattled off everything she would be recieving. She gathered her story, reminding herself to read nice and slow. She took a deep breath and read Augustine. Praises to the Lord!

Goblets or no goblets.
