Hey guys, I know it's been a few weeks, but I'm back to give you my predictions for the new content to be released on the store this week.  With at least 2 full games, 1 demo, and DLC for your favorite music games - this week shouldn't disappoint.

Activision announced yesterday that it would release pack including 3 tracks on July 24. This pack is rightly named since the artists featured in it are Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Buckethead with the songs being "For the Love of God", "Surfing With the Alien" and "Soothsayer" respectively.

NY Governor Signs a Bill Into Law for Game Ratings

The bill that David Paterson signed states that by 2010 consoles should have a parental lock system installed (currently the only one that does not is the DS) and that games sold at retail (mail orders are exempt) should display an ESRB rating on the packaging......which is already the case.

Media and Business Summit Will Not Back Down!

Despite the fact that a lot of developers, media and publishers (basically everyone) feel the current form of E3 is lacking, not to mention the public who is unable to attend, the Entertainment Software Association said they were going to carry on with the current version.
With Leipzig gaining ground each year and developers leaving E3 to form their own events, one has to wonder about the decision and its relevance.

Xbox Live Community Games Coming This Fall

Games developed with the XNA toolset, the games created by the community will first have to be reviewed before going on the Marketplace, players will also be able to download demos of each game before purchasing them. the games will range between 200 and 800 points ($2.50 to $10).
Microsoft will take 30% of each sale leaving the programmer with up to 70%.

Portal: Still Alive....But Going Nowhere

During the Microsoft press conference a "new" Portal game was announced which excited fans quite a bit. By now I assume these fans are pretty bummed. It has been revealed that Still Alive will feature the levels in Orange Box as well as the ones in the PC Flash Version MapPack.
Quite underwhelming you have to admit.

When you think Mac, you usually don't think video games, but I think Mac has been trying to change that. Between Guitar Hero III for OS X and Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone, Mac is starting land big game titles for their products. I think a lot of it has to do with Mac having Intel now. Macs are basically unstoppable now. But what else is new.

Pues como lo habia comentado, si Activision quiere ganarle a MTV Games/Harmonix . . . debe hechar toda la carne al asador. Y pelear por las licencias que atraeran a los metaleros de corazon. En este caso se anuncio que Metallica al lanzar su nuevo album llamado DEATH MAGNETIC el proximo mes de Septiembre, tambien te dara acceso a descargar todas las rolas a tu Guitar Hero III. No se han especificado costos, pero quiero pensar que no sera tan caro. Ahora que si me preguntan, no se cuantos sigan siendo fans de Metallica despues de tantos años donde sus canciones ya no son tan pesadas como al principio. Por cierto tambien estas canciones se descargaran para el futuro titulo Guitar Hero World Tour. A comer y a rockear que el mundo se va a acabar.

I’ve played video games for as long as I can remember.

I had an Atari, which means I honed my skills on classics like “Pitfall,” “River Raid” and “Combat.”

I’ve since progressed through the Nintendo, Super Nintendo and all three versions of the PlayStation.

My wife has played some video games, citing a fondess for the Nintendo standard “Legend of Zelda.”

Other than a brief spell of playing “Final Fantasy VII,” she was pretty much retired from the world of gaming until we discovered “Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock” at a friend’s house in Kinston last week.

If you aren’t familiar, it’s a game (available on the PlayStation, XBox or the Wii) that features guitars for controllers. The basic premise is to, well, rock your way through the game.

I would have bet money that I, a man who has played only sports or role-playing games for the past decade or so, wouldn’t like it.

I would have taken that same amount of money and tripled it on a wager that my wife, a career woman, part-time student and full-time mother, wouldn’t like it either.

Let’s just say that it’s fortunate for me that gambling isn’t legal.

It’s surprisingly addictive.

I started off slowly, but my years of wielding a game controller paid off as I was ripping chords with the best of them.

My wife got so into it that she put on her glasses — a sure sign of intensity.

From “Slow Ride” to “Even Flow,” we took on ballad after ballad. We took turns playing with our buddy, who then insisted that we play together.

It was strange. Usually, I play video games by myself when my wife and son are sleeping.

Now, we were playing together. It was cool.

But the trip ended, and I thought that we’d slip back into our usual routine — me hammering away at “NCAA Football” or “Civilization Revolution” in the coming weeks while she got on with her normal life of ignoring the PS3 that sits on our entertainment center.

Instead, we ended up in Best Buy on Sunday, shopping for all the tools we’d need to become rockers at home.

A bit of back story seems relevant here. My wife is a wonderful woman. But she is one of the most frugal people standing in shoe leather.

Yet she stood smiling as we shelled out more than $160 for the game and two guitars.

We took it home and have played it every night since.

We’ve been strumming away so often that we’ve already played through every song in the career mode and now we’re working on the bonus songs.

I guess nothing brings a family together like a little rock and roll.

Very user-friendly
The beauty of this product is in its user-friendliness. It works exactly like the guitar that came with the game. Just insert the remote in the guitar and select 2-player mode and you're on your way to a guitar duel.

Love to guitar hero play with my teenage daughter
I found something that my teenage daughter still likes to do with me!
We are even teaching grandma how to play. We can play for a quick 5 minutes or for 3 hours. We can play individually, as a team, or competitively. We can pack it up and take it with us, play it on the big screen or down in the playroom. There's no cussing, no blood and guts, and no sex! It is just good, clean fun, family style. I just wish Wii had more games - and I am not that thrilled with the upcoming Aerosmith game. I like them, but they are not my fave. I am sure it will be fun anyway because I will know most of the songs.

This a game that the whole family can play together, as with many other Wii games. I love it!

Whoo a bit of rock-goddery here with myself and Ads getting a very nice 100% score on Guitar Hero III. Yeah it might be on medium but still that's pretty sweet. I don't usually like to gloat about Guitar Hero/Rock Band scores but personally think thats a pretty decent score for two non-hardcore Guitar Hero players. Hey, you can only beat what's in front of you.

Never really got on with rhythm games before, always found them supremely irritating, too quick for me. So when a friend suggested I might like Guitar Hero I wasn’t sure, then I read a interview somewhere about the team behind it, and my interest grew.

Finally I bit the bullet and ordered it from Play.com, and 2 days later I was unpacking and assembling a shiny plastic guitar. At first it was difficult to play, I had to get use to the controller, pressing the buttons and strumming at the same time, and the timing took some getting use to. Then after about 3 days I had a breakthrough and suddenly I could play a whole song through from start to finish without getting booed off the stage, in fact I started to get cheers. I’ve only played on easy at the moment, medium which uses 4 buttons and is a little faster, is a bit out of my league.

But boy what fun I’ve been having. Now I have 2 guitars (brought the Aerosmith edition as well) and me and my daughter play together, which is even more fun than strumming along by yourself. This game is really good value form money, it is challenging, but fun and has a 'just one more go factor' which cannot be under valued. The graphics are OK, but not astounding and not all the songs will be liked, but there are over 70 some some will hit home.

This game really makes you feel part of the music and gives you a new appreciation for songs you’ve never really listened to before. I can recommend this game totally, buy it and become a guitar fiend!

Chike already held the current Guinness world record for highest score on Guitar Hero with 840,647 points. As you can watch in the video above, Chike plays the Dragonforce song and smashes his previous record with a mind-boggling score of 987,786 points from a 3,722-note streak.

Okay, before you are wondering, I will not be talking about the background graphics, I don't have time to look at that when I play, but I do look at the note graphics. Which brings up my first topic, graphics. Rockband graphics for notes is mainly even as Guitar Hero III, but GH3's note board stands out more. However, graphics are not a big deal, and do not judge your buying decision on the graphics, because you might just end up with the wrong game.

The next topic I am going to bring out is the instruments. First, we start off with GH3. By the way, I own the PlayStation 3 Version. The guitar for GH3, is a better guitar than the Rockband one, mainly because all of the buttons have a main use. The Rockband guitars have extra buttons which are no use to me. The fret buttons on GH3 are better, and more visible, unlike Rockband's guitar, where the frets look like they are not there. Next, the strum in GH3, is nicer for me, as it makes more sound, making it more suspenseful. The Rockband makes no noise, which sounds dull to me. So, as for guitars, GH3 wins the battle for me. Nevertheless, the other instruments in Rockband outrun the Gutiar Hero Series, as Guitar Hero does not have any other "ally" instruments.

Now, if you are reading, you probably have a choice by now, however, you should not. The next area I will talk about is the song choice. Myself, as a GH3 owner, I was dazzled by the song list in GH3, as I knew the majority, and easily catching on the beat of the rest. On Rockband, I knew a couple of songs, but it is harder for me to catch on the beat of the songs that I was not familiar to. I strongly suggest to consider buying the GH3 if you are interested in the song choice. Rockband gave me songs, but they did not really excite me as much.

If you are still not sure what game to desire, here is some advice. If you are in a family of a lot of people, or like to have a lot of friends over, I recommend Rockband. It gives a wider range of choices, where different people fit into different categories. This cannot be done with GH3, as you are slightly forced to play the guitar. Conversely, if you are more of an independent person or in a small family, I recommend GH3, because it is more pleaseurable playing solo. This is so, because in Rockband, you are looking forward to play multiplayer, cause you have the option to, but in GH3, you do not, as you want to get better and acheive higher scores.

Subseqently, it is your choice what to choose: Rockband or Guitar Hero III. I myself was overwhelmed by Guitar Hero, but it is your choice. Let your Rock Essence lead to your path of discovering your interior rock prodigy.
