Three months ago, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith launched to middling reviews and solid sales, just over 1 million units as of the end of August, according to the NPD Group. Until today, it seemed that the tribute to the Boston rockers would be the only band-centric instrument-based rhythm game until Guitar Hero: Metallica ships in 2009. However, today Electronic Arts, MTV Games, and Harmonix upended that theory by revealing a new Rock Band game focused on legendary Australian group AC/DC. The AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack will be available as a stand-alone product for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 2 in North America for $39.88 and the PlayStation 2 for $29.88. A Wii edition will arrive on November 16 for $39.88 in the US and Canada, with all four versions hitting the UK, Europe, and Australasia in December. While the game will be available at "most major retailers" internationally, domestically it will only have one source. The The New York Times reports that in the US, the AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack will only be sold at Wal-Mart, its Sam's Club subsidiary, and its online store. The megaretailer has struck a deal with AC/DC's label, Sony-owned Columbia Records, to promote Black Ice through dedicated stands in its stores peddling AC/DC albums, DVDs, T-shirts, and other merchandise, including games. "If you want to be a physical band, you better make an alliance with a strong physical retailer," Columbia Records chairman Steve Barnett told the Times. "It's a great way to sell the new album, the catalog, the game, merchandise and DVDs." A Rockstar rep confirmed to GameSpot that Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, and Walmart.com will be the only places the track pack will be available, and no downloadable version is planned. Gamers who want to incorporate the songs from the new game into their regular Rock Band and Rock Band 2 repertoires are in luck. "All tracks from the AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack will also be available for play in Rock Band and Rock Band 2 by entering a special export authentication code for the Xbox 360...and PlayStation 3," said MTV Games in a statement. No mention was made of the versions for Wii and PS2. One thing the AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track won't have is a virtual version of guitarist Angus Young jumping around in his trademark schoolboy uniform. "AC/DC's likeness are not used as characters or avatars in the game," a MTV Games rep said. "AC/DC LIVE Rock Band Track Pack is like Rock Band and Rock Band 2 in that it is completely focused on the music while giving people the opportunity to live out their rock star fantasies as themselves rather than playing as digitized versions of the artists." A compete list of AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack's 18 songs, all of which are live versions taken from various performances, is listed below. The total running time of the combined songs is just over 99 minutes.

"Thunderstruck"
"Shoot to Thrill"
"Back in Black"
"Hell Ain't a Band Place to Be"
"Heatseeker"
"Fire Your Guns"
"Jailbreak"
"The Jack"
"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"

[caption id="attachment_81" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Yeah, so shoot me for having an opinion"][/caption]

So since we got that out of the way, let's get on with this review:

First of all i thought the idea of playing through Aerosmith's story of their rise to fame was a pretty cool idea for a guitar hero game, although i kind of preferred the idea of YOUR OWN band rising to fame in the other GH games.......but anyway...

Secondly, the songs that are not Aerosmith songs are kinda cool additions to the GH library, but dear god did i find the aerosmith songs annoying.

And lastly, when you play an Aerosmith song which is like 75% of the time, you ARE Aerosmith. I don't see why they bothered to tease us with the idea of character choice this time around and you just played as Aerosmith the whole time. WHATEVER.

Ok so in summation i thought the only thing that redeemed the game were the non-aerosmith songs and they could quite easily be downloadable content NOT A AUD $79.95 PS2 GAME! STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED AT LAUNCH ISN'T EVEN GOING TO BE THAT MUCH!?!?!? WHAT THE HELL GUYS!?!?

So this game to me is worth :

AUD $12

[caption id="attachment_82" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="$12 would be a good price for downloadable content...right guys?"][/caption]

I’m bundling both my reviews this week - since I’m a little lazy and a good procrastinat

I'm bundling both my reviews this week - since I'm a little lazy and a good procrastinator. Let's not waste any more time. I was pretty excited to be reviewing BioShock. I played the game through, start to finish, three times in a row. It was my pick for Game of the Year 2007.

Probably the first thing you'll notice about BioShock is the in-engine first-person cutscenes, very reminiscent of the Half-Life games. A winning formula, which is reinforced by BioShock's powerful visuals. Graphically the game didn't stand out much beyond what we'd already seen. There was a lot of talk about the pretty looking water, however, past looking out over the ocean from the Lighthouse steps, I really didn't think the water was what was important about BioShock. What was important was Rapture; the city is beautifully realised in a blended art deco/steampunk style. Rapture is filled with banners, posters and neon lights. Empty bottles and old newspapers can be found strewn around the city. Plasmid advertisements and Atlas' political slogans can be seen almost everywhere you look. It's this attention to detail that breaths life into Rapture, and consequently what makes much of the game so eerie from the Medical Centre's bloodstained walls to the abandoned bars of Fort Frolic and the flooded apartments. Apart from looking very nice, BioShock's soundtrack features some amazing music, including orchestral pieces recorded for the game and licensed tracks from artists such as Billie Holiday and Bing Crosby.

Although BioShock was described by many as a blend of FPS and RPG, it contains very minimal roleplaying elements. The plasmid/tonic system is much more like something from an adventure game. Still, the game offers enough variation in play style, coupled with the "moral" choice of saving or harvesting the Little Sisters, to warrant multiple playthroughs.

At it's core though, BioShock offers a strong story-driven game. It is based on Ayn Rand's masterpiece Atlas Shrugged. The use of the name Atlas and Andrew Ryan (as a sort of anagram of Ayn Rand) are but cosmetic similarities. It is Ryan's dream for Rapture, and it's collapse, that are inspired by Rand's novel and they form the basis of a story that compels us to discover the truth at it's heart.

I've talked long enough already and not nearly covered enough. BioShock is worth

AUD$120

It's a genuine piece of art; thought provoking and inspired.

[caption id="attachment_87" align="alignnone" width="213" caption="He's probably thinking about buying BioShock..."][/caption]

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith on the other hand...

It's a lot better than I was expecting, given Moh0k's reaction to the game. Once again (like with Soul Calibur), I'm quite the GH fan and I wasn't expecting very much from an Aerosmith themed spin-off. Now I'm sure Aerosmith are a great band, and I'm sure that there are lots of people out there who really like them a lot, but when I first heard about it I groaned. I like a few of their songs Love in an Elevator, Walk This Way, Dude (Looks Like A Lady) but the later sadly doesn't make an appearance in the game. So it was with much trepidation that I fired up Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

The game is actually quite good. I really quite liked most of the non-Aerosmith songs, and even found myself enjoying a few of the Aerosmith songs that I had previously been unfamiliar with. Still, other than an additional 40-odd songs, the game brings nothing new to the franchise. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's completely incompatible with my GH3 content, including all the DLC on my Hard Drive.

Normally we'd shy away from talking about a game's RRP, but Aerosmith retails for AUD$89.95 for Xbox 360. (it's probably similarly costed for PS3 and about $10 cheaper on Wii and PS2) Frankly, that's outrageous - moreso given that the GH3 disc sells for $79.95 for Xbox 360. Aerosmith is worth $10 more than the core GH3 experience? Hardly. It's worth

1818 MSP (AUD$30)

It's DLC dressed up as an expansion pack. If you're an Aerosmith fan then you'll enjoy it, but for everyone else there's plenty of great DLC out there and GH4 on the horizon.

So I've been playing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith the last couple of days. My thoughts? It is pretty much the same exact thing as Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Except it's a different band and different songs. It's still a fun game to play though.

The truth about Guitar Hero and Rock Band, there is no such thing as "beating" those games, which is called a "sandbox" games which you can never beat them. They are games that you can stop playing whenever you feel like stopping.

For Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, I'm just practising in the "expert" level mode. I ain't playing the "career" just yet. I probably gonna be playin' this game all week.

Well, we covered Rock Band's E3 info, and we know a lot of you LOVE Guitar Hero, so we got some info for you as well. O, Rock Band users- you may wanna check this out as well, as one of the big announcements involves you guys to. All the info is after the More link.

Sequel to Guitar Hero On Tour for Nintendo DS- Yes, only one month after Guitar Hero On Tour came out for the DS, Activsion is planing an encore with a game called Guitar Hero On Tour Decades. You can't blame them though- they sold 350,000 (yes 350,000) copies in the first 3 weeks, so a successor was obvious. So what's new in Decades? Well as you could've guessed, the songs in the game will probably date back multiple decades. There is also a new song sharing capability (to let your friends with the original On Tour sample some of the new tunes), and a possible addition of using the DS's Mic for Karaoke. Not much else is known on the new game such as price or release, but we know Activision will announce more info when the time is right.

Latest Metallica Album to come to Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero 3 at the same time it is released on CD- This is some pretty big news, as it shows how big the impact games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are having on the music industry. It is also big news if your a fan of classic rock or Metallica. We don't know yet how much this will cost to download, but you can expect it when Guitar Hero World Tour is released in the fall.

Videos of Guitar Hero World Tour in action- Joystiq got some videos of this highly anticipated game in action- with everything from how the new drums will work, to using the new Song Creator, all the way down to how the game will play with a drum, guitar, and mic all at once, as well as everything in between. Check out the videos here.

Guitar Hero World Tour Demoed

Compatibility for Rock Band Guitar and Drums with Guitar Hero Aerosmith and World Tour!!- We saved the biggest news for last, and any one who owns Rock Band, or likes its instruments better than Guitar Hero's, has got to be thrilled by this news. This new Rock Band compatibility comes as an update to Guitar Hero Aerosmith, will be included in Guitar Hero World Tour, and will as the title of the bullet says- allow you to use your Rock Band drums or guitar in Guitar Hero Aerosmith and Guitar Hero World Tour. No news on whether the new Rock Band 2's kit is supported, or if the new Mad Catz and Ion Rock Band add-ons will work, but it still is pretty big (and nice) news regardless.

Ok, so there is the Guitar Hero E3 info. Any thoughts, questions or comments? Let us know in the comments.

We said we'd get you some Rock Band E3 info, and here it is. There is a lot of cool stuff here, and to find out all the info, Read On!

500 Songs By the End of the Year- We're starting off slow :) Well, Harmonix (maker of Rock Band) said that they would have 500 songs out by the end of the year. That probably means you'll find something to "Rock Out" to ;) . Also, current Rock Band owners- don't forget you can transfer your downloaded songs to the new game, and from the new game's downloaded songs back to the original, assuming there is no license problems- which Harmonix and MTV are currently working out.

New Venues and Game Modes- With those 500 songs, you got to have some new places to play right? Well, Harmonix and MTV know that and have therefore added 2 new places- Tokyo and Tijuana (according to a Google search, it is a place down in Mexico). There are also 2 new game modes mentioned: a "World Tour" mode where you hire a manager (or your mother- seriously it is a choice in the game) to manage your budding virtual rock star career, and a "No Fail" mode- where there are literally no fails if you aren't playing perfectly (or if you got some friends over and you wanna be nice and make no one feel like they can't play- or you wanna keep things moving :) ).

New Venue in Rock Band 2

New Accessories- Cheap Version- Probably the biggest news on the Rock Band side (actually that comes a little later, see Guitar Hero E3 post), but before that, there is a whole lot of new accessories for Rock Band. These are mainly new instruments made by Mad Catz, for those of you who want something beyond the standard Rock Band Kit. These new instruments include a "Premium Mic" that offers sound that is "Studio Quality" and also includes buttons for things such as setup (those of you with the original Rock Band remember that you needed a controller and the Mic for set up, here it is only the Mic). Next up is the "Portable Drum Kit"- a simple Drum Kit that is playable anywhere and supposedly on anything. This Drum Kit comes with the whole deal: foot pedal, pads, and even fold able sticks. Next up is the Cymbals, which will give your drum set a little more of a realistic look and feel (though they look to only work with the standard Drum Kit, not Mad Catz's portable version). The price of the Mic is $50, the Portable Drum Kit is $60, the Cymbal's are $30 for a pack of 3, or otherwise $15 each. All of these should be available in the Fall, probably around the time Rock Band 2 is released.

Portable Drum Kit by Mad Catz

New Accessories- Not so Cheap Version- Well, these are for those of you with some more cash to spend, or with a huge desire to be a fake Rock Star. These accessories are from both Mad Catz and a company called Ion, and these accessories come in the form of a Guitar and a Drum Kit. Mad Catz is the one offering the guitar, and it is a "full size Fender Sterocaster", that actually looks like the real thing. It also is wireless, and offers a foot pedal for "Over Drive" play for the hardcore rocker. It definitely costs a lot for that look and features- $199, and should come in the early part of next year for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Ion is next with their $300 Drum Kit, which for that hefty price comes with a metal enforced kick stand, and high durability pads for quiet gameplay, that also at same time register how hard you hit the pads in order to base the sound (similar to the drums on the new Guitar Hero 4). It works with both Rock Band and Rock Band 2 and is available for pre-order right now from Ion's site, though currently it is only for the 360, but PS3 and Wii versions are in the works.

Ion Drum Kit

Okay so as you can see, some of this stuff is for just the hardcore gamer (last bullet), while some of the others are for everyone (first 3 bullets). O, and don't worry all you Guitar Hero 4 lovers, we got some info for you to from E3. Stay tuned.... all will be out soon.

GUITAR HERO: AEROSMITH | FEATURING STEVEN TYLER AND JOE PERRY
FIFTH VERSION OF GUITAR HERO FEATURES

GUITAR HERO: AEROSMITH | FEATURING STEVEN TYLER AND JOE PERRY

FIFTH VERSION OF GUITAR HERO FEATURES 19 AEROSMITH TRACKS

While recording 12 Platinum (10 of those multi-plat) albums and 21 songs on the Billboard Top 40, Aerosmith has made a name for themselves because of their hard rock mentality mixed with influences of pop and blues. And the game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a tribute to their success more than a serious video game.

Following up the highest-selling video game of 2007, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith follows the career of the Boston-based band. It starts at Nipmuc High School in the early 70s, where your band shreds through "Dream Police" (by Cheap Trick) and "All The Young Dudes" (made popular by Mott the Hoople, covered by WaveGroup) before Aerosmith is brought on stage and your journey begins. You play through Aerosmith's career, visiting Moscow, The Orpheum Theater, and Max's Kansas City, among others. Classics such as "Dream On", "Love in an Elevator" and "Livin' on the Edge" are available to play.

Critically, this game was very interesting for me. I had only heard 2 Aerosmith songs: "Dream On", which played during the ending credits of the movie Miracle, and "Train Kept a Rollin'", which appeared on the game Rock Band. But I found some new songs that I enjoy, and not just from Aerosmith. "Dream Police" is the first song and maybe the best out of the non-Aerosmith tracks. "Cat Scratch Fever" from Ted Nugent is also a hit in my book. Run-D.M.C.'s "King of Rock" was also fun to jam on. It is probably the first time that the Guitar Hero franchise has taken on rap/rock. Maybe we can see some Family Force 5 on Guitar Hero: World Tour...

From the Aerosmith catalog comes "Dream On." I also liked playing "Mama Kin" and "Toys in the Attic."

In summary, I did not find anything extremely exciting coming out of this game except for playing "Dream On." But if you are an Aerosmith/Guitar Hero fan, this is a must-buy.

Customer Reviews

It's OK, but probably just stick with GHIII
First off, I'm a HUGE guitar hero fan. I've played GH3 many times over, and I've never gotten tired of re-playing most of the songs on that game. With the release of GH-Aerosmith, I was extremely excited to have ~40 new songs to play (although I'm only a moderate Aerosmith fan). After playing through the game, I am extremely disappointed with this game and cannot recommend this game to Guitar Hero players.

Pros
- Great graphics, definite upgrade over GH3
- Good storyline, the live interviews were interesting, and it was cool to re-play some of Aerosmith's critical gigs
- The recognizable Aerosmith songs are quite fun to play (especially "Walk This Way", "Love in an Elevator", "Living on the Edge", and several others)

Cons (lots of them)
- Only 41 songs (in comparison to GH3's ~75 songs) - how can they justify the nearly equivalent prices of the two games?
- The obscure Aerosmith songs and the non-Aerosmith songs have almost zero re-playability. In my opinion, the guitar parts on these songs were repetitive and boring.
- Omission of key Aerosmith songs such as "Dude (Looks like a Lady)" in favor of some lesser, more obscure Aerosmith songs
- As indicated by other reviewers, the game is pretty easy, but worse, the guitar parts just aren't very interesting or fun to play.
- Star power is a disaster. In star power mode, the audience claps (very loudly) to some random beat that does NOT correspond to the rhythm of the song. Never in the history of music has an audience (real or otherwise) had less rhythm! It is incredibly distracting to have contrasting beats on the same song... GH3 did NOT have this same problem.
- The volume of the guitar track was inconsistent between songs. I had to adjust the guitar volume (Options menu) for each individual song to have optimal guitar audio. Again, GH3 did not have this problem.
- The timing of the notes in Expert mode seemed to be quite off (especially on "Cat Scratch Fever" and other songs). I had to introduce an audio lag (Options menu) to try and make the video notes and audio correlate. This was not a function of my TV, and GH3 did NOT have similar problems on my system.

In my opinion, the game-play of GH-Aerosmith is "sloppy" compared to GH3. Perhaps these problems are the result of rushing this product to market in advance of the upcoming GH-World Tour... Anyways, if you're a die-hard Aerosmith fan and you aren't too concerned about game-play, then you'll enjoy this game. Otherwise, get GH3 (if you're a newbie) or wait for GH-World Tour...

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Let's get one thing straight first--this is Guitar Hero. As long as there is rock music and a G-R-Y-B-O color fretboard, it will always be Guitar Hero. That basically means that the "fun" factor of the game will always be at high, because it is very, very difficult to ruin a game that is placed around some fairly simple gameplay.

But, of course, this is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, something new for the series, as it is mainly focusing on one of Rocks's biggest hits. In that sense--it's a total success. If you're an Aerosmith fan, or just like that style of music, this game will work very well. It's got all of the songs that I personally love, and even some that I didn't know about, and still liked. And let me get one thing straight; rocking out at the "Halftime Show" to the song "Dream On," is freaking awesome.

Now, let's talk about the other parts of the game--the non-Aerosmith is pretty decent. High points include Joan Jett, Cheap Trick, Joe Perry's seperate band, Black Crowes, and a surprising inclusion, an old-school rap song by Run/DMC. The non-Aerosmith playlist is somewhat small, which is a bit disheartening, but what's there is enjoyable, and good enough to break up the Steven Tyler input. Activision could have decided to include more songs in the bonus tracks, but it's just aerosmith/Joe Perry band tracks.

The Gibson Les Paul guitar you can get with the game, contrary to many reports I read, works excellently. The only thing about this game I can really cringe about is the graphics. Guitar Hero III managed to compensate for the Wii's graphical lacking-ness by dumbing down the graphics to Guitar Hero II level--but this time the developers wanted to push it towards the level that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are capable of, and stumble quite a bit. Steven Tyler's face does NOT look good at all, the rest of the band barely keeping in the level of "decent." Tyler's dancing animations are pretty cool, but overall the graphics on this game just aren't adding up. Considering that "Transformers" managed some impressive graphics, I'm not sure how this happened, but hey, I'm not a game developer.

In short--it's Guitar Hero, and it's fun. Buy it if you want to have another 60 or so songs to accompany GH3, but I can't blame you if you just decide to wait for World tour or pick up Rock Band.

Oh my gosh
I am sitting here laughing at all the responses, "I bought the Aerosmith version and I wish there weren't so many Aerosmith songs on it."

LOL What did you think?
And if you don't like the playlist, don't buy it.

I for one found that it was a little easier than GHIII in that I may actually have a chance on some hard songs. I love to see Cheap Trick and Joan Jett in the mix as well.

Happy Rockin'!!!

This week saw the release of 2 new editions to the Guitar Hero family - but I doubt I am the only on

This week saw the release of 2 new editions to the Guitar Hero family - but I doubt I am the only one who is still waiting for the most promising GH of 2008!

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is the first GH game focusing on one band or artist. Following their rise to fame, the game takes you back to high school for Aerosmith's early days up too their biggest hits of recent years. On the way there are plenty of non-Aerosmith songs to aid the variation without straying too far from the vision of keeping it about one band. Personally, I'm not an Aerosmith fan and there isn't enough in this GH3 spin off to make me buy it. Maybe I will rent it, and see If I change my mind.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is the breakaway venture taking the GH franchise to the handheld devices. Designed for the Nintendo DS, the revolutionary "guitar grip" attachment allows for mobile shredding. I got my hands on one of these today in a Gaming Shop, and it isnt as gimmicky as it sounds/looks but god forbid you be left handed!

These two new games are a sign that Guitar Hero is not going to fold to Rock Band's pressure. In fact, this is just the beginning. The next installment will of course be Guitar Hero World Tour. A sublime leap forward for console rhythm gaming. I was all set to go out and purchase an XBox 360 just so i could get Rock Band (it is only available on the 360 in the UK at the moment!) but before I could relieve myself of £189 ($300+) plus the price of another game console, I read about GH:WT! I will be saving my hard earned cash and purchasing the superior music/rhythm game. (Editor's Note: Rock Band 2 doesn't look half bad either)

These two new games are a sign that Guitar Hero is not going to fold to Rock Band's pressure.

Also, not content with trying to overtake Rock Band, GH:Aerosmith and GH:On Tour will be actually heading out on tour with the "American Idols" in the coming months. And Rolling along for the ride will be the demo version of World Tour! With Rock Band appearing at various festivals across the US this summer, has GH taken it one step further and actually joined a "tour" albeit not a world one?

Its a tough choice ahead for those of you who already own Rock Band. I mean come on, be realistic - how many plastic based peripherals do I "actually" have the room for? In fact - that sounds like a whole other discussion to me!

This can also be read at celineellis' blog Celine Is A Geek

. . o acaso alguno ya lo vio. JEJE.
