Product Description:

The Handbook of Graph Theory is the most comprehensive single-source guide to graph theory ever published. Best-selling authors Jonathan Gross and Jay Yellen assembled an outstanding team of experts to contribute overviews of more than 50 of the most significant topics in graph theory-including those related to algorithmic and optimization approaches as well as "pure" graph theory. They then carefully edited the compilation to produce a unified, authoritative work ideal for ready reference. Designed and edited with non-experts in mind, the Handbook of Graph Theory makes information easy to find and easy to understand. The treatment of each topic includes lists of essential definitions and facts accompanied by examples, tables, remarks, and in some areas, conjectures and open problems. Each section contains a glossary of terms relevant to that topic and an extensive bibliography of references that collectively form an extensive guide to the primary research literature. The applications of graph theory are fast becoming ubiquitous. Whether your primary area of interest lies in mathematics, computer science, engineering, or operations research, this handbook holds the key to unlocking graph theory's intricacies, applications, and potential.

I watched the movie Scorched on the Comedy Channel today, it was really good. =] I wonder if that girl and boy ever got together? (Girl on Motorcyle) and all...oh well it was a good movie. Louis is in therapy lol, that's a good one. I didn't wake up until like 2:45 PM; sad! I woke up at around..8 ish because my alarm went off, but I didn't get up.

Anyways, today's blog entry is about NAIL POLISH, I mean, what's up with it? Girls (sometime boys) wear them, and of course I do too. But today's photoshoot was with nailpolish. White and black. D: I couldn't think of what to do a shoot on so yeah...hopefully I'll get more interests and all; and don't worry it's just a hobby or...something to do; I'm NOT planning on going professional or anything D:

This was a random shot. =] You can see a gameboy game there.

Black lace creme, it really is. D: It's not the black black you'd want, but like a light creamy sort, like a creme would be. If you cake it on it'll be black black.

White and black. Yes, those are teethmarks on the white cap. It was hard to open and...yeah. Please avoid heat and flames when using nail polish please :'D

Uhm, just opening up the nail polish honestly... O:

That's it for today!

Product Description:

The time has now come when graph theory should be part of the education of every serious student of mathematics and computer science, both for its own sake and to enhance the appreciation of mathematics as a whole. This book is an in-depth account of graph theory, written with such a student in mind; it reflects the current state of the subject and emphasizes connections with other branches of pure mathematics. The volume grew out of the author's earlier book, Graph Theory -- An Introductory Course, but its length is well over twice that of its predecessor, allowing it to reveal many exciting new developments in the subject. Recognizing that graph theory is one of several courses competing for the attention of a student, the book contains extensive descriptive passages designed to convey the flavor of the subject and to arouse interest. In addition to a modern treatment of the classical areas of graph theory such as coloring, matching, extremal theory, and algebraic graph theory, the book presents a detailed account of newer topics, including Szemer\'edi's Regularity Lemma and its use, Shelah's extension of the Hales-Jewett Theorem, the precise nature of the phase transition in a random graph process, the connection between electrical networks and random walks on graphs, and the Tutte polynomial and its cousins in knot theory. In no other branch of mathematics is it as vital to tackle and solve challenging exercises in order to master the subject. To this end, the book contains an unusually large number of well thought-out exercises: over 600 in total. Although some are straightforward, most of them are substantial, and others will stretch even the most able reader.

"Roadhouse Blues" is a blues-rock song written and recorded by the American rock band The Doors. The song, which appeared on the B-side of You Make Me Real[1], was first released as a single from the album Morrison Hotel in March 1970 and peaked at #50[2]. The song quickly became a concert staple for the group, notoriously[3] appearing later on the posthumous album An American Prayer and the same again on In Concert and Greatest Hits. During this version, Jim Morrison rambles for about two minutes to a female audience member about his Zodiac sign and denouncing his beliefs in it. The song was also featured twice in the movie The Doors.

Fact: At last, the public announcement this afternoon of one of the most-rumored secrets in tech:

Fact: At last, the public announcement this afternoon of one of the most-rumored secrets in tech: Microsoft is acquiring Powerset, taking us one major step forward in semantic technologies.

Analysis: There'll be plenty of analysts looking at this, and I expect the acquisition will get a lot of buzz just as Powerset did originally when launched. After all, Microsoft is buying a company which was called a "Google-Killer" by everyone from the New York Times to various esoteric search-technology blogs. [Update: it's already started on TechCrunch.]

If you haven't used Powerset's first announced product, semantic searching of Wikipedia, check it out on their site and you'll begin to see why there's been so much interest in their technical approach. I've know founder Barney Pell for a while now, and we've mused about the possibilities of adding Powerset's strengths to Microsoft's global scale. The more I played with PowerLabs, before its full launch, the more I was convinced of its power.

When I was working at DIA, one of our dreams was a semantically enabled intelligence enterprise. IC analysts and advanced users within any other enterprise vertical are going to find some very interesting capabilities finally possible when Powerset technology is wedded to the FAST search software already being deployed at web scale.

But that's only the beginning.

I knew of Microsoft's long history in semantic research, dating back to the MindNet days and before. Microsoft Research has been ramping up our investment in semantic approaches for a while now, because we see enormous benefit in embedding semantic capability within the billions of web services and software services we're planning, in the "software plus services" plan.

Keep in mind:

We've already been delving deeply into graph and subgraph relationships among information and documents at web scale (see "Web Projections: Learning from Contextual Subgraph Projections of the Web," 2007).

We've added to that some ambitious partnerships with the brightest minds in academic and commercial semantic research, with our program "Beyond Search: Semantic Computing and Internet Economics," launched late last year "to improve the ways in which the information seeker finds, shares, discovers information." (Check out the impressive list of projects at the link.)

Semantic understanding will only enhance the big vision - and Craig Mundie describes that this way: "We tend to believe that there will continue to accrue a large amount of computational capability in the literally billions of intelligent gadgets and devices." Software on those billions of devices will coordinate and interact with a web-scale "services layer" of cloud-supplied intelligence. One avenue of that activity is imagined in last year's Microsoft Research-sponsored paper on "Semantic Reality: Connecting the Real and Virtual World." That paper describes SR as integrating "a large body of work in sensor networks, embedded systems, ambient intelligence, networking, distributed systems, distributed information systems, artificial intelligence, software engineering, social networking and collaboration, and Semantic Web."

Simple but surprisingly powerful examples are already appearing, as in the Microsoft Research "Blogosphere Early Warning System" or BLEWS, which was unveiled in prototype at the 2008 TechFest and may go live during this presidential election. Here's a screenshot of BLEWS; intelligence analysts can think of it as an advanced OSINT tool, consuming web-scale social media and blog content.

BLEWS semantically identifies political blogposts, ascribing a left-leaning or right-leaning interpretation. it then extracts and mines all links to news articles, applies an "emotional charge" classifier and a de-duplication algorithm to related articles, and finally produces a visualization of the volume and semantic relationship of the articles in near-real-time. Nifty!

A personal disclosure: my happiness at the Powerset acquisition isn't just because of the technology it brings to Microsoft. In fact, when I was preparing to leave government service last year, I was approached by the startup about their position of VP of Engineering. I had some fascinating discussions and love the company, the technology, and Barney Pell - but I felt I was a better fit as a generalist at Microsoft.

Well, what do you know - happy endings! E pluribus unum :-)

To create graphs, charts or pie chats in php is really easy with jpgraphs library available for php. Here's how you can use this library.

first of all download the jpgraphs from the links given as follows: for php4 , for php5. or you can directly go the jpgraph site.

after downloading the zip file, just unzip the file and copy paste the folder to the webroot or the www folder to access it through your localhost or webserver.

open the folder and go to the examples directory, where you can see lots of examples listed for dynamic graphs and chart generation.

select the example that suits best to your requirment and find the code for the example there.

below given are some image examples of how a graph or chart created with jpgraph library looks like:

A PHP based chart library.

While this may not be revolutionary, or the first of its kind, it's pretty cool! This library basically lets you generate charts - pie charts - line graphs - bar graphs - just like you would in word. Only this is PHP based and seems like it would be oh so simple to integrate with a DB to make things like a survey.

Gives me so many possibilities.

The demo shows the result as an image so the PHP just renders a graphic - somehow. Whatever it does, it's awesome! try it here:

Don't get me wrong, this sensor is really great. When I am creeping up, it alarms to tell me I have eaten too much, or given too little insulin. When I am low, it alarms to tell me I am heading into dangerous territory. I can sleep better knowing I will wake up conscious, or without a headeache from a prolonged high overnight.

BUT, as nifty as this piece of technology is, it is not fun to downloan your bg stats, and see this:

sensor-graphj

Not pretty. It makes me cringe...no wonder I feel like ass most days. This pretty much sums up all of the roller coaster ups and downs I go through on a daily basis. It is days like this that makes me feel like those target range numbers I program into my pump are a pipe dream.

This was moved up from the previous post, because of some changes I made, and I think it warrants individual consideration.

Consider the graph above, 11 nodes with connections between some of the nodes. We would like to color the nodes of the graph such that no two nodes that are connected have the same color. That's a very general question, but it has a very interesting result as it applies to the graph above.

Consider just five nodes connected in a ring. Including all rotations, reflections, and color transpositions, there are 240 different ways of coloring those nodes. Now, when you start adding nodes internally, you would assume that the colors of the internal nodes would influence the coloring on the boundary. If there were one node connected radially from the center to all five nodes on the outside, the boundary coloring can not include whatever color the inside node is colored. Boundary colorings in the 240 that include the color of the inside node are therefore eliminated.

What's fascinating to me about the above graph is that there are enough ways to four color the whole graph such that any one of the 240 possible boundary colorings will occur. Any one of them. The internal graph might as well not exist, given how it influences the coloring on the boundary. Very, very interesting.

Of course, I checked that by hand, and I might've made a mistake so feel free to check me : )

On August 5th, 2007 the Police began their concert with the song called "Synchronicity II."

Yesterday, we examined the speed of the song on a graph which began its calibration on the first backbeat, or beat 2 of the song. Above, we see the same recording of the song, from the album, Synchronicity beginning on the first downbeat. Also, as you see, the versions of calibrations based on beginning on beat 1 and beat 2 are compared. As with the next two parts in this series on this most amazing of songs, the groups are compared in contiguous groups of 10 beats.

I hope you are looking forward to a graph where the speed calibration begins on beat 3 and beat 4, as they will be next.

There can be no doubt that this is one of the greatest rock compositions and recordings of the 20th century. In calibrating the song, what I have found in regard to beginning the calibration on the downbeat - beat 1 and the backbeat - beat 2, is that while Sting dominates the 1 and 3 of the 4 quarter notes and Stewart Copeland dominates the backbeats - beats 2 and 4 of the measure. In measuring, I could hear much of which made the magic of the Police happen. Quite simply, while drummer Copeland and bassist and singer Sting are the best of musicians, they play although they were in different countries, while guitarist Andrew Summers tries to fill in the middle spaces. This creates: the most exciting of counterpoint.

Sitting 3 rows from the stage over a week ago, I am surprised and happy that the performance was of such outstanding musical quality that in a way I still feel as though I am standing right there on the New Jersey field on which they played in Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Speed Summary, Synchronicity II from beat 1, the first downbeat -
beats measured=760
mean time=4 minutes, 45 seconds
mean speed=159.75 beats per minute
average beat=376 milliseconds
mean phase=2.66 cycles per second
corresponding pitch=681.6 hertz, 57 cents>E5=659.3 hertz, 43 cents>F5=698.5 hertz.
