But more importantly, the most entertaining connection that I've noticed is that gossip is not much different from other conversations that we think of as high caliber; literary discussions, philosophical conversations, debates about Obama vs. McCain- even arguments about mathematical theory- the only difference between talking about your best friend's affair and talking about the nature of Pi is content.

Tonal inflection is the same, the same brand of analyses are made, just about different topics, whether it's the attractive guy from work or the newest breakthrough in microbiology. Ultimately the same formula for conversation can be applied to any topic, with the same behaviors and reactions occurring. With that in mind...

Earlier we told you about the accident involving basketball player Kenyon Martin and hip-hop performer Trina. Kenyon Martin, known on the basketball court as K-Mart, is a power forward on the Denver Nuggets. He is one of the highest paid players in the NBA, making about $15 million a year playing ball. Tomorrow he will be the guest of honor at a basketball tournament organized by Youth for the Future. Our 7NEWS team greeted K-Mart and Trina at the airport.

The man they call K-Mart on the basketball court arrived this afternoon with his girlfriend and a message for the youths.

“It is important for people like myself to give back for one, come back and show people that we’re here and that we care and just show people that we have a heart.”

Kenyon you’re probably being modest but you’re an NBA superstar. You were a top draft choice and you play on the Nuggets. How big are you?

Kenyon Martin,
“Depends on who you ask, like you said I am modest as they come. I am a regular human being like the next person, I had to work to get to where I am, I don’t take anything for granted and so that is why I am here. I know where I came from and I know the things that these kids are facing were the same that I was facing in my neighbourhood growing up. So I am here just to, as you said, just to show them and teach them that there is a way out besides violence and crime. There are things you can do with your life besides get in trouble. That is why I am here to let the kids know.”

“It is a great thing. It warms my heart. Soon as I got off the plane people knew who I am, I would have never thought that in a million years so it just feels good for me to be here and people to welcome me.”

“And I understand that you also studied criminal justice which is so important for our young people to understand that even though you’re a big NBA star, you took your education seriously and that’s a positive message for our young people.”

NBA basketball star Kenyon Martin and hip-hop artist Trina arrived in Belize from Miami today for a peace rally and basketball tournament tomorrow. But the news tonight is that on their way from the airport, in a motorcade led by a police mobile, the Ford Excursion the couple was traveling in - was involved in a violent collision on the Northern Highway. They weren’t hurt but two young boys were. Keith Swift and camera man Alex Ellis had just interviewed the couple at the airport and were heading back to the city and witnessed the accident. Here’s their story.

We were there when basketball superstar Kenyon Martin and hip-hop’s rising queen Trina arrived at the airport. Kenyon told us the trip was both for work and pleasure.

“It is wonderful. It is my first time here so I am looking to have a good time. I am here for a little business but pleasure as well. I came down here to lend some support to the basketball for peace and things like hip-hop for peace and things like that – to have a good time.”

But all that changed minutes later because of this ugly collision at mile 8 on the Northern Highway. The 7NEWS team was on the scene moments after. The green minivan ploughed into the front passenger side of this white excursion. Trina and Kenyon Martin were in the backseat of that excursion. Raymond Marin saw the accident unfold and was one of the first persons on the scene.

“As we were coming down from the airport trailing behind the vehicles we see the white car that Trina and Kenyon Martin were travelling in was cutting across and the same time a green van came and they hit each other and they went straight across and one of the children nearly came out of the vehicle because of the impact. It was very very hard and horrifying and hmmm, I still left stunned right now.”

But as stunning as it was, Trina got a few minutes later visibly shaken but told me she was unhurt.

Trina can you tell us anything about what you just experienced?

“It was just…I don’t know.”

She was embraced by Kenyon Martin who was also unhurt. The driver of the Excursion, J.A. Jex says he received a minor injury.

But the same couldn’t be said for George Abraham. He was driving the minivan with his 12 and 9 year old sons inside. The front side of his vehicle was crushed. His children 9 year old Johnny and 12 year Delane were hurt, and in the moments after the accident he was both angered and in anguish.

“I was on my right hand side and this vehicle overtake on this side. That guy was in the wrong in that vehicle. I was on my correct hand. Ahh my shoulder.”

Who were you with in the van?

“My two little babies.”

Trina and Kenyon Martin left in another vehicle and so did their luggage. The Abrahams meanwhile were assisted by paramedics. 12 year old Delane was seriously hurt and had to be carried on a stretcher. Diane Finnegan is one of the organizers of the visit.

“I really have to apologize to them for all this and I dropped them off at their hotel just a few minutes ago and they are shaken up. They are okay, safe, didn’t get any kind of hurt or anything but the emotional part of it is what we are all going through.”

Why was there a police escort? Why was there this motorcade?

Diane Finnegan,
“Bringing in such a huge figure within the NBA, we thought that it would just add some level of our thoughts and what it meant having them coming into our country and we wanted to show them with humbleness what it is that it means to us as Belizeans and also – everybody’s been expecting them.”

But certainly no one expected this. Reporting for 7NEWS, Keith Swift.

Police are investigating the accident. We should note that numerous witnesses saw and we noted that oncoming traffic had to swerve off the road because the motorcade – led by a police mobile with flashing lights- was overtaking traffic on the fairly narrow stretch of the Northern Highway. We couldn’t verify if the escort was officially sanctioned. Again no one was seriously hurt and the show will go on. We’ll give you a preview of that show and tell you why it is still big news that the 6’ 9” basketball superstar is in town - later on in our newscast.

Our sources say -- and they are impeccable -- Balthazar has resorted to e-groveling with his e-stranged wife, Rosetta. He has been sending her e-mails in the last week saying, "I love you."

Balthazar announced earlier this week that he and Rosetta had separated after pictures of him with an au naturale Sienna Miller surfaced all over the 'net. We're told if the divorce goes on, Balthazar will come out looking awful. The stumbling abomination that is Andy Dick has finally checked himself into rehab, and all it took was ... well, who really has the time to go through all the stupid, drunk, drugged up s**t this guy has done recently?

Of course, it's not real rehab. Dick will battle his demons for your viewing pleasure on a future trainwreck reality show called "Sober Living". Sources close to Dick say the comedian in name only made the decision to check in after his drunken arrest at a chicken joint earlier this month.

TMZ has learned that Dick WILL get paid for his stint -- after all, he's got lawyers to pay.

We can't go anywhere on the Internet this morning without seeing posts about Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus in a YouTube war. One of the seemingly endless (although that is changing with all the store closures) of Starbucks here in Vegas is in a parking lot that also has a McDonald's, Del Taco, and a grocery store. At times, the drive thru line is so long that it completely stops traffic through parts of the parking lot which is quite annoying to those of us who, God forbid, aren't actually trying to get a venti double skim double latte frappawhaterino. What happened to Coffee, Black?

On the store closings, people are acting like its some surprise. For God's sake, here in Vegas there is literally a Starbucks in the parking lot of another Starbucks.

So, given my inability to understand what all the fuss is about, this site seems over the top to me. I can't think of ANY consumer product, food, or business that I love or am so interested in that would warrant such treatment. I love the concept of the gossip but I wonder at who really goes to the site. I mean

Mr. I'm-More-Than-The-Mac-Guy is apparently so upset over being dumped by Drew Barrymore that he had to drop out of her new roller-derby movie, Whip It!

I thought of it to be nothing more than a page listing what's new to come or under development projects at facebook but lookie what we have here... seems like Facebook is going for a presentational change with it's outlook!
