hey did u all notice this. i noticed it for the first time today and am really very happy and satisfied too.

my blog has been ranked 4th on the google page rank parameter.

don't know when this happened. earlier, i always opened my blog on mozilla which didn't have the google page rank toolbar. only today i opened it with internet explarer and the moment my eyes hit the 4/10, i was excited.

now, i am not very sure of what good that means to my blog or what the page rank means at the first place. Google says, "Page Rank is Google's measure of the importance of this page". by that logic, my blog comes 4th in the list of important web pages - it's still low but still offers a great reason to be happy.

i saw the SEOs in my last company exalt when their websites grew on this google parameter. so i think i too need to show some excitement.

what's important is that my blog has attained this feat purely on the basis of content. since i was a content person, i knew of no other ways. as the blog grew with time, so did i learn of other techniques to increase visibility.

thanks to little to no work at office, i have been pumping content to the blog almost regularly. so the google bot could see that there was work going on a regular basis.

i first started with tags. there are more than 300 tags on my blog. through tags, my readers are able to locate me in the vast maze of the web. for many others, the tags direct them to my blog, almost unwillingly. can't help it. everything has pros and cons.

recently, i also added many widgets to my blog. earlier there were just a few - calendar, top posts, categories, recent comments, archives, and tag cloud. recently i also added RSS feeds, blogroll, videos and photos. the RSS may have helped widen the reach of the content here.

finally, the content again. there was not only too much of content. the content was also good. my readers have liked it. i am not boasting. u know, i seldom boast. but the comments that i have received from readers have been encouraging.

i end this post here. would want to see my blog grow to greater heights.

I have been keeping a watchful eye on my Alexa toolbar as of late. I have been getting over 1000 visitors a day to my exercise information site AskTheTrainer.com I knew the site would go up. To my surprise it went WAY up.

In just over 1 month since publishing the first page, I now have around 30 or so the Alexa Rank went from 9,000,000 to 478,641 From what I read, that is pretty good. It says my rank during the week was 83,032.

I'm pretty stoked about it but really need to get back to writing. It seems every time I get out of my writer's block, I have something to do. I think it is very hard to write sometimes when I have like 20 things on my mind. I have Japanese class tomorrow and I haven't did my homework yet, so there's another distraction.
My San Francisco Personal Training Site's Alexa Rank went up too. It currently sits at 610,782 which is not bad for a local site. I just spent a couple hours updating it for maybe the final time. I added a new google search which is way better than the old one.

On the subject of google, I was wondering how good a page rank 3 is? I have that on many pages and wonder if I can shoot for higher or I should just count my blessings. My youtube channel also increased in Alexa ranking all the way to 1.6 Mil. I have erroneously putting the wrong link on all my sites and posts for my youtube channel. It should be http://youtube.com/user/askpersonaltrainers, not http://youtube.com/askpersonaltrainers

I actually should go back and update all my blog posts, strictly for SEO purposes. I had a chance to talk to a friend of a client who is a big database guy. His gaming site is crispygamer.com which has climbed high in the traffic ranks and gets over 500k visitors a month.

I'm sure I had a bunch of questions for him, but forget to ask :( I hate when I forget something I previo.us ly wanted to ask. I would have asked him a question about joomla which I was recommended to solve my javascript needs by some forum moderator.

I went to the joomla website and was astonished how confusing their site was. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find anything I needed to figure out. I'm looking for a popup which I can install on my site, which looks exactly like kontera ads.

I want to have a dictionary on my website. There will be html pages with the definitions, but I want to have javascript popups to come up when a user hovers the mouse over the word for 2 or 3 seconds. I know how you can add the built in popup with the
<SPAN title=" description here " class="popup">text</SPAN> tag, which I like, but I my idea has more flexibility.

If anybody knows any programs or anything, please let me know. I'm not an expert in any code so it probably has to be template based. I'm willing to buy a script.

Posted by Amit Singhal, Google Fellow

In May, Udi Manber introduced our search quality group, the group responsible for the ranking of search results. He introduced various teams within "Quality" (as we like to call the group) including Core Ranking, International Search, User Interfaces, Evaluation, Webspam, and other teams. In this post, I want to tell you more about one of these: the Core Ranking team.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Amit Singhal. I'm a Google Fellow in charge of the ranking team at Google. I've worked in the field of search for the past eighteen years, having been introduced to search in 1990 as a graduate student in computer science. In the academic world, the field of search is known as Information Retrieval (or IR). After spending a decade as an IR researcher, I came to Google in 2000, and have worked on Google ranking ever since.

Google ranking is a collection of algorithms used to find the most relevant documents for a user query. We do this for hundreds of millions of queries a day, from a collection of billions and billions of pages. These algorithms are run for every query entered into most of Google's search services. While our web search is the most used Google search service and the most widely known, the same ranking algorithms are also used - with some modifications - for other Google search services, including Images, News, YouTube, Maps, Product Search, Book Search, and more.

The most common question I get asked about Google's ranking is "how do you do it?" Of course, there is a lot that goes into building a state-of-the-art ranking system like ours, and I will delve deeper into the technology behind it in a later post. Today, I would like to briefly share the philosophies behind Google ranking:

1) Best locally relevant results served globally.

2) Keep it simple.

3) No manual intervention.

The first one is obvious. Given our passion for search, we absolutely want to make sure that every user query gets the most relevant results. We often call this the "no query left behind" principle. Whenever we return less than ideal results for any query in any language in any country - and we do (search is by no means a solved problem) - we use that as an inspiration for future improvements.

The second principle seems obvious. Isn't it the desire of all system architects to keep their systems simple? Well, as search systems go, given the wide variety of user queries we have to respond to in multiple languages, it is easy to go down the path where more and more complexity creeps into the system to serve the next incremental fraction of the queries. We work very hard to keep our system simple without compromising on the quality of results. This is an ongoing effort, and a worthy one. We make about ten ranking changes every week and simplicity is a big consideration in launching every change. Our engineers understand exactly why a page was ranked the way it was for a given query. This simple understandable system has allowed us innovate quickly, and it shows. The "keep it simple" philosophy has served us well.

No discussion of Google's ranking would be complete without asking the common - but misguided! :) - question: "Does Google manually edit its results?" Let me just answer that with our third philosophy: no manual intervention. In our view, the web is built by people. You are the ones creating pages and linking to pages. We are using all this human contribution through our algorithms. The final ordering of the results is decided by our algorithms using the contributions of the greater Internet community, not manually by us. We believe that the subjective judgment of any individual is, well ... subjective, and information distilled by our algorithms from the vast amount of human knowledge encoded in the web pages and their links is better than individual subjectivity.

The second reason we have a principle against manually adjusting our results is that often a broken query is just a symptom of a potential improvement to be made to our ranking algorithm. Improving the underlying algorithm not only improves that one query, it improves an entire class of queries, and often for all languages. I should add, however, that there are clear written policies for websites recommended by Google, and we do take action on sites that are in violation of our policies or for a small number of other reasons (e.g. legal requirements, child porn, viruses/malware, etc).

Stay tuned for Amit Singhal’s follow-up post, where he will discuss in detail the technologies behind Google ranking and show examples of several state-of-the-art ranking techniques in action. :-).

Most webmasters face this problem sooner or later. The rankings of your website on Google have dropped and you don't know why this happened.

Here are the top 4 reasons why rankings on Google can drop:

Reason 1: Your website has been penalized or banned from Google

Search for "site:yoursite.com" on Google (replace yoursite.com with your actual domain name). If Google returns one or more pages from your website then your website has not been fully banned.

What you can do to solve that problem:

Find out what you have done wrong on your website. Google doesn't like spamming, cloaking, link building and similar shady tactics. Clean up your website and ask for reconsideration.

Reason 2: Your server rejects Google's spider

Have you installed a new robots.txt file lately? Does your robots.txt file allow Google to index your website? Have you changed your htaccess file? Have you recently installed a spam bot blocker?

Are you 100% sure that the spam bot blocker lets Google through to your website? Google uses different IP addresses for its different spiders and some spam blockers might accidentally block one of the spiders. This might also look like cloaking to Google.

What you can do to solve that problem:

Double check the settings in your robots.txt file, your htaccess file and your spam bot blockers. If possible, avoid bot blockers because they might send the wrong bots away.

Reason 3: Google has changed its algorithm

Google is continually tweaking its algorithm. It might be that one of the latest changes affected your website. Last year, Google released more than 450 changes of the ranking algorithm. That's more than 37 per month.

What you can do to solve that problem:

Check whether your website is compliant to Google's latest algorithm.

Reason 4: Your competitors increased their efforts

You're not the only one who wants to get high rankings for your keywords. Search engine optimization is a constant competition. Your competitors might have done something better than you.

What you can do to solve that problem:

Analyze your competitors and find out what they've done to get the top rankings. Get better inbound links than your competitors and optimize your web pages.

Things that brought your website to the top of Google's search result in the past might not work anymore today.

(0.06 detik)

Can u imagine the server farm architecture !! :D

Setelah lama saya diamkan ternyata pengunjung semakin lama semakin berkurang . Padahal awalnya pernah mencetak hits perbulan 8000 an. Lumayan sebenarnya.

Role of Forums

One method that many choose to build links is to post in the forums relevant to the content of the site. This works by posting regularly in the relevant forums and leaving a link in the signature of your posts. This can bring some rewards but many people make a number of mistakes limiting the use and effectiveness of this way of building links.

Too Much Too Fast

There are so many people that have no interest in the forum and will make meaningless posts on the forums with links galore to their various web pages. Firstly, no-one will click on the links in the signature because the posts often do not make sense; so they will get no traffic from forum posts. Secondly, the moderators or owners of the forum will easily spot and ban such activity. It is important not to try and build 100 posts all at once but try to make sure you post regularly. For example, aim to post 5 times a day in three different forums. By the end of a 30 day month you will already have 450 links back to your site.

Build Your Reputation

The importance of building a reputation in the forum is often over looked. You can gain approval from other forum users and be recognised as a trustworthy source in a number of ways list below.

1: Actually read the rest of the posts in the topic. Your comment is not going to make sense if it is not related to the rest of the comments and if someone has already said the same thing.

2. It sounds a painstaking process but it often works best to build around 25 links before you leave a single link in your signature and over 100 posts before you leave more than one link. Most forums say they allow links after 10 posts but they may still ban you for spamming and you will not be enhancing your forum reputation.

3. Once you are established in a forum it is a good idea to start your own topics or threads and write your own 200-500 word article that can attract attention. You can also answer questions related to the topic building the backlinks to your site and your reputation.

Overall

Forum posts are an easy way of building backlinks to your site and improving your Google Page Rank. They build one-way links which bring more benefits than reciprocal links. However, I must stress that forum posts can only be part of your backlink building efforts. Finally, another obvious point that many ignore, make sure the forum you post in is relevant to the content of your site.

Hey!

Hey!

This post is about the importance of building links and why it is necessary to increase your Google Page Rank.

This is arguably one of the most important steps in increasing your google page rank. To increase google page rank your site has to be seen as having popularity and links from other sites are a way of showing this popularity. Sad I know but good sites have to be popular. A common mistake for most web users is to rush to build as many links as they can as quick as they can. The problem is most novice webmasters do not actually think through who they are exchanging links with and the effect it can have on your google page rank. If you exchange with the wrong people your google page rank will not increase at all.

Moreover, there is an important distinction between certain types of links and the effect they have on your Google Page Rank. It has been proven and tested that one-way are the best way for improving your google page rank. For those of you do not know what these links are. They are just links from other sites to yours without a link back to their site from yours. These include links from social bookmarking sites, articles and forums etc... These links are relatively easy to come by and will do you good but you need 1000s of them if you want a top page rank.

The other type of links that people often spend their most time on are reciprocal links. I.e a link from your site to their site and a link from their site to yours. However, most of these links are of little good and it is difficult to build the thousands of links which is needed to increase your google page rank. To increase google page rank you need links from sites with a higher page rank than you and under no circumstances use link farms they will actually have a negative effect.

To increase your google page rank through links you need thousands which sounds like a lot but it really is not. If you aim to exchange reciprocal links once a day and build 20 links back to your site through forum posts and the like. Then, by the end of the year you will have 365 reciprocal links to your site and 7300 one-way links to your site through relatively little work!

In my experience, building links is the most important way to increase google page rank. Link building can be a painstaking process but it has to be done. Unfortunately, unless you are willing to pay there is no quick way of building links.

As always if you have any questions regarding the post or any related questions then please post a comment and I will do my best to answer or other webmasters may answer.

Good Luck!

Zend’in kurucularından biri olan Andi Gutmans, internetnews.com’a yaptığı açıklamada, PHP 5’in bu güne kadarki benimsenmesinden memnun olduğunu belirtti.

As many of you know Microsoft has been trying hard to buy a section or all of Yahoo but talks have come to an end recently. Microsoft had offered to buy a section of Yahoo and previously offered to buy all of Yahoo. But what blows my mind is in a last chance move Yahoo has denied Microsoft and accepted an offer from Google, are you kidding me, Google has out done themselves again. They have done what Microsoft has been trying to do and once again proved their ability to stay on top of the web. Google has bought the rights to run their Google Adwords on Yahoo Search Results for a commission of each click. Usually I am bashing Google but once again I find myself congratulating them on their massive success. A lot of articles have been written on the underdog Yahoo and how this may allow them to have a last stand or it could end up like the 900 Million Google spent of Myspace. But if all goes well, the next 4 years for Google will be very profitable from this new marketing zone on Yahoo. So, Google congrats.

Billions of people are surfing cyberspace, many of them wanting to spend money conveniently. If you

Billions of people are surfing cyberspace, many of them wanting to spend money conveniently. If you have something to sell, how can you ensure they will find you before your competitors? The answer is simple - you need to make friends with the search engines and give the search engines what they want. The good news for you is, 95% of your competitors ignore this secret that is hidden in plain sight because it's too easy.

What is the secret hiding in plain sight? Search engines want fresh, quality content! They have always wanted fresh, quality content. They are in business to serve the masses so they are brutally picky about who makes it to the first page of search results. Yes, getting backlinks from quality websites is a factor but it means nothing without quality content.

One of my websites is relatively new. It has a Google PR3. That might seem an envious position. Using my Google Page Rank, I applied to one of those sites that pays for reviews. I was rejected. Why? Very little traffic. My site is generating a measly 300 unique visitors a month (May 2008). I just do not have enough quality content on that site as yet to make it attractive to sponsors.

So, you see, Page Rank is not always an indication of traffic. It simply means I have a number of back links from high quality sites. Google sees back links as votes. The more back links, the more votes, the higher the Page Rank. Quality content, on the other hand, is the secret to generating traffic. Not only that, quality is what leaves you there for years to come. Even if your site goes down, your quality content will still be found on the internet highway!

Quality content consists of profitable keywords and some solid information for your visitors. Don't make the mistake of producing content loaded with all sizzle and no steak. Your visitors can't eat sizzle. They need steak in the form of solid information they can use.

Concentrate on gathering every ‘profitable’ keyword, whether long tail or short and use them to craft your money terms which ultimately lets you rank high for very highly competitive keywords. Searches that are in the 5 figures a day.

Long tail are keywords of more than 2 words (less people searching) and a short tail is 2 or less words (more people searching). Remember long tail keywords are ONLY typed in by a searcher IF they can’t find what they are looking for using short tail keyword phrases. If you provide solutions for short tail keyword searches then people won’t leave your site to search on long tail keywords.

This is the secret hidden in plain sight that 95% of your competition is ignoring. They break away from the simple rules and try something extensively different and difficult because the simple methods seem too good to be true to work. That’s their mistake that you can use to your advantage!

Stay away from fads. Save your money and make good use of your valuable time and effort doing what has always worked.

The boss of search engines is still Google. Follow what Google wants and you WILL be rewarded. It takes just as much time to cheat the search engines as it does to apply solid, honest techniques. The trickster will see his efforts vanish within 3 months. You will still be around making money.

The simple methods are here to stay and you need to never worry about algorithm changes as you will have the right structured site, with the right set of keywords and the right content that search engines will love. Whether you want to profit from Adsense, affiliates, your own product or service, these strategies will outperform 99% of all your competitors

Want to get ranked on Google within 60 minutes? No hocus pocus … just plain and simple? Do what I do every other day - submit articles to article directories. When we submit to article directories, the good ones with PR 6 and above, we automatically get their pulling power when Google spiders visits their site. Since Google regularly visits high PR sites, they re-cache (re-index) the entire page. So, when you post an article on a high PR site, the chances are that you could extract Google spiders from the high PR site to yours.

For example: you post an article to a directory site, Google visits it, crawls it and follows the links. Since you have a new keyword optimized article, Google will catch you on that page. So basically you can practically have your page cached within 60 minutes, depending on when Google is visiting.

Send out your content to these high PR (articles directory) sites and get indexed faster than ever and watch the traffic start flowing.

Do popups really affect your page's rankings in the search engines or does it make any difference at all?

Over 1,000 queries and over 10,000 sites were examined for this study.

There was no exercise to attempt to isolate different keywords.

I merely took a random sampling of the queries performed by myself and three associates during the prior month. Yahoo doesn't seem to care very much about use of the "window.open" command. However, the trend is positive. Pages with the "window.open" command did rank higher on average than pages without it.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or “algorithmic” ) search for targeted keywords . Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search , local Search , and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site's relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site's coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users. Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove them from their indices.
Getting Indexed on Search Engines / Getting Listed on Search Engines:

The leading search engines, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results. Pages that are linked from other search engine indexed pages do not need to be submitted because they are found automatically. Some search engines, notably Yahoo!, operate a paid submission service that guarantee crawling for either a set fee or cost per click. Such programs usually guarantee inclusion in the database, but do not guarantee specific ranking within the search results. Yahoo's paid inclusion program has drawn criticism from advertisers and competitors. Two major directories, the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory Project both require manual submission and human editorial review. Google offers Google Webmaster Tools, for which an XML Sitemap feed can be created and submitted for free to ensure that all pages are found, especially pages that aren't discoverable by automatically following links.

Search engine crawlers may look at a number of different factors when crawling a site. Not every page is indexed by the search engines. Distance of pages from the root directory of a site may also be a factor in whether or not pages get crawled.

The newest tool we're enjoying is the EverProfits Toolbar. It works like any other Internet explorer toolbar, but it has tons of benefits for search engine optimization: for each site you visit it gives Google PageRank, Alexa Rating, some Wordtracker and Adwords functionality and my favorite: one click on the toolbar opens up INLINKS - shown on the toolbar as INLINKS: 99 (99 being the number of sites linking to the current page), clicking the button shows you each of the links, including the Google PR, Alexa Rating and Inlinks for the current site.

A real handy tool for site promotion, link building, etc.

How often do you ask total strangers to give you money?
Ever try to pry a few dollars from Dad

How often do you ask total strangers to give you money?

Ever try to pry a few dollars from Dad's grip without a reasonable explanation?

Want to learn the secret to influencing people? Here's how:

BE RELEVANT. BE SPECIFIC. DISTURB COMPLACENCY

No matter how compelling the message, some people just won't be receptive. In the sales world we like to say that 'You can't sell stupid'. However most people want to know how to better their situation and just need to be shaken out of their mental slumber.

Drive into your average suburban strip mall and take a look at the variety of businesses renting space. This week I visited one in Palatine, IL that housed a dog groomer, hair studio, tanning salon, dentist, realtor, and everyone's favorite...the liquor store. I brought a young saleswoman with me for a little experiment: could we score an appointment with each business owner?

First up, the dog groomer. Shannon, the rookie sales rep, asked the lady if she was interested in gaining more customers from the local area by advertising with her company. WHAMMY! The lady barked a hearty, 'NOT INTERESTED!'. Strike one.

Next up we entered the hair studio and I asked the woman I presumed to be the owner if they cut and styled men's hair. 'Why yes we do' she said. What about manicures and pedicures? 'Yep, those too.' I told her my wife love a manicure to treat herself now and then and asked what her web address was. 'Well, we're revamping it at the moment but let me write down the address for you'. I told her 96% of women like my wife won't even set foot in a hair studio if they can't find the service they need online. She looked floored and asked me how I knew that. At that point I let her know my friend Shannon was a Local Internet Marketing Specialist, said she would be happy to give her a few ideas for improving both the website and the number of customers who spent money with her each month, and asked if Wednesday or Thursday would be the best time to come in for another visit. New appointment set for Wednesday at 8:30 am. Score!

Start talking their language, learn what topics, stats, and real life issues your customers, associates, and friends are most interested in. And remember, the most sweet music in the universe to each person is the sound of their own name.

To Your Success,

Joe
