I wish my parents had realised that about Victoria MacKenzie. I remember once really early on in school when we were just learning how to write, the teacher set a challenge to see how many times we could write our full name in one minute. Funnily enough, Lucy Cox beat me. I felt cheated.

This is a picture of Paul McCartney singing "Let It Be" last night at Shea Stadium. It's actually a picture of him on the gigantic screen as I was sitting much too far away to see the actual Paul McCartney.

Months ago, before I knew I would be returning to the States for good, Dennis and his family tried to buy tickets to the final Billy Joel show at Shea Stadium, but the show was sold out within an hour or so, which was not really a surprise. The next day they got word that Billy Joel would be singing a second "final" show and so they waited for an hour and a half on the phone lines, engaging all of us with cell phones to call in and try to get access. Needless to say we got the tickets.

Last night was the show and it was incredible. More than sixty thousand people filled the stadium, dancing and singing along with Billy Joel. At times, when he played a song like "Movin' Out" or "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant," people jumped up and started dancing. And when that happened, the entire stadium shook. Not just shook, the but the concrete platform we were standing on, way up at the top of the stadium, undulated beneath our feet. It was like standing on a waterbed, and one of the freakiest things I've experienced.

Oh, but it was a fabulous show. Steve Tyler, Garth Brooks, Tony Bennet, Roger Daltrey from The Who, and Paul McCartney all came on as surprises, McCartney twice. The final song of the entire show was McCartney singing "Let It Be," and it was one of the most surreal things I've seen. An actual Beatle singing "Let It Be"? I tried to call my mom so she could listen as it started but for whatever reason the connection failed. Perhaps it was the sixty thousand other people doing the same thing.

Another amazing moment was when he sang "Good Night Saigon," and during the chorus, men and women in uniform stood on stage and sang..."And we'll all go down together...". I'd seen Billy Joel perform this song years ago in Boston at the Fleet Center, and he'd done the same thing then----inviting soldiers up to sing. But last night? It was a much more real chorus, knowing we've been in war for six years. The crowd was hushed and reflective during the song, but when the uniformed singers came out, the cheers that rose from the audience spoke volumes of patriotism and pride in the soldiers who actually are going down together. And there was a sadness, too. I won't lie: I was moved to tears.

But my favorite part? Was actually the first song Billy Joel sang. It was "The Star Spangled Banner." Maybe it was a formality, maybe it was tradition seeing that we were in Shea. But I took it much more personally. Coming home from Brazil, deciding to move here to New York, knowing the US is my home, that song last night felt so good to hear and to sing along to. And I sang so loud. Sang right through the part when most people start cheering "o'er the land of the free" all the way to the end of "and the home of the brave." And when it was over, I joined the thousands there in jubilant cheers. Lifted my voice with all the others and felt welcomed home.

Absolutely frickin surreal.

Have I mentioned? I hate computers, much as they're convenient and handy and good for communcation and blahblahblah. I've always preferred writing, in notebooks. But in the past couple of years that will/ability disappeared. In these past couple of days though, they seem to have returned, it's so much easier now to write like I used to - whether they're diary entries, or fragments of a paragraph headed nowhere. Whether they're good or bad, I'm grateful.

So much has happened in the past couple of days, physically (as in, the places been, stuff done), but it's also been emotionally draining. This always seems to happen at the end of every (school) year, but this time round, it's been far more...real. None of those petty arguments to get caught in the middle of, like in Year 9.

Right now I guess I'm too tired to really feel it, but in a couple of moments today, I've realised how exceedingly grateful I am for the past couple of days. Please let things get better. For everyone.

What seems to go in tandem with this surreality (word?) is the fact that Words by the Bee Gees keeps popping into my head. I haven't listened to that song in the longest time.

3 more days of school, all jam packed with activities, I dunno when I'm gonna find the time to pack. 8 days till home time! By the way, I went to visit Imperial today, it is unbelievable. Never thought I'd like a uni in London, but it didn't feel like we were in London at all. It was brilliant. (:

I WATCHED THE DARK KNIGHT LAST NIGHT.

BEST. FILM. EVER.

LOLOLOLOL I'M SO GLAD I WATCHED IT AT SYRACUSE BECAUSE MY BROTHER TELLS ME THAT EVERYTHING IS SOLD OUT IN NYC BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! SIXTEEN OF US TOOK THE BUS TO CAROUSEL MALL...WE GOT THERE AROUND 3, AND MADE A BEELINE FOR THE THEATER. WE GOT ON LINE, AND BOUGHT TICKETS FOR THE 8:00 SHOWING.

IT WAS THAT EASY, GUYS.

THEN LATER, WE GOT ON THE BATMAN LINE IN FRONT OF THE THEATER AROUND 6:30, STOOD IN IT UNTIL 7:45 ISH, AND THEN RAN INTO THE THEATER AND NABBED TWO ROWS HIGH UP AND SMACK IN THE MIDDLE.

BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE.

AND THEN WE WATCHED IT. THE TRAILERS WERE NOTHING SPECIAL (DAMN I WAS HOPING FOR TWILIGHT'S TRAILER) BUT THE MOVIE. OH MY GOD.

I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY EXCEPT "GO WATCH IT."

GO WATCH IT NOW.

oh right!

We watched the 8:00, and by the time we got out, the rest of the mall was closed and dark, so we walked through it to get out, still yelling and reveling in the film. Then we called car service (the buses had stopped running about a half hour before) and called a van and two taxis for sixteen people.

The van got here first, with the taxis ten minutes away. All the smaller skinnier people piled in first, but after some quick thinking and shot of spontaneous fun, we squished ELEVEN of us into the minivan. The driver was awesome about it and let all of us in his van. We had one hell of a ride home, taking pictures, talking about gambling (the casino is driving distance away, and you only have to be 18), and generally having fun. We passed by cop cars and all of us had to duck LMAO.

This was the best night at Syracuse ever. Thank you everyone.

And Heath Ledger was amazing. AMAZING.

Honestly, what more can be said about this movie? If you’ve read any reviews, they have proaba

Honestly, what more can be said about this movie? If you've read any reviews, they have proabably included streams of hyperbolical language throughout. I can tell you that I spent the days leading up to this movie reading reviews and interviews and watching trailers (I have been eagerly looking forward to this since 2005's Batman Begins ended) and as my wife and I were driving to a local midnight showing of the movie last night, I feared that I had set my expectations too high and that I was sure to be disappointed. Instead, when we walked out of the theatre in what felt like the briefest two-and-one-half hours of my life, I felt that nearly all of my expectations had been exceeded. I really liked this movie!

Because there has been so much written about this movie already (and surely more to follow), I'll keep this review somewhat brief. Since you are reading a blog, I assume you have connection to the world via internet and I'll assume that you know who/what Batman is and all of the hype that has been surrounding this particular film. To save both of us a little time let me just mention a few of my favorite things about the movie.

The acting across the board is amazing. Everyone does a wonderful job here: Christian Bale, Gary Oldham, and Aaron Eckhart turn in spectacular performances, but Heath Ledger really does steal the show (since there has been an absurd amount written particularly about Ledger already, I will only say that I think he has given us the best [or worst, depending on how you look at it] villain ever put on film). The action is exciting, but not exhausting. The characters and story are engaging to say the least. The music by James Howard and Hans Zimmer was great and heightens the level of suspense. When everything in a movie comes together to form a great movie-going experience like this one, much due must be given to the Director, in this case the masterful Christopher Nolan. And I could go on and on.

Although, I heartily recommend the movie to everyone, I definitely don't think everyone will enjoy it. Its pretty dark for a mainstream movie. I generally enjoy films that are a little darker and bleaker (I'm sort of weird that way) and so I really enjoyed it. Although, there is a ray of hope at the end it is definitely overshadowed by some unexpected turns of events. The real thrill of watching this movie is that you feel that no one and no thing is off limits and you feel as if anything could happen. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire film and I loved it.

Let me say a few words about the themes running through this movie. This is definitely a post-9/11 super-hero movie. Essentially, the Joker is a terrorist and the question that Batman and Gotham City must consider is: "how should we respond to terrorists?" This leads to other questions: should we comply and meet demands or should we stand up and fight back? Also, should citizens' privacy be encroached in order to hunt terrorists and fight terrorism? There are also interesting discussions of good and evil and how they relate. The movie also raises questions concerning other issues like chance, luck, and heroism. Another viewing of the film would only help me in considering how the movie handles theses themes.

Well, my "brief" review is getting lengthy. Let me just say this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. As I walked out of the theatre at a ridiculously early hour this morning I couldn't help but feel like this is the kind of movie that makes me love going to the movies.

I give it four stars, five stars, two thumbs, 10/10, 100/100, the whole nine yards!

Clearly in the picture we are at the market, looking very ridiculous, but having way to much fun.

So I haven't been writing in my blogs lately, I hope you guys didn't miss me! :)

I have come to a conclusion that life is one big countdown clock, so we need little countdown clocks before the big one runs out. :D I have made myself one, I think everyone should as well.

Okay....so to keep you guys up to date I will give you the download, the 411, FYI! This Summer, has been very different from a typical Summer, but has been one of the most memorable Summers yet! Even though every Summer I think of Congress and miss it very much, even all the crazy hours, those extremely hot showers, extremely cold dorms with out a blanket, the experience of full independence for one full week, having pedometers flushed down toilets, getting lost in a University (which might be a University I might go to never know) oh and how can I forget the crazy insane turtle neck 19 year old guy from Manatee County that asked me out to the ball?! HAHAHA! Poor guy, got kicked out the last day! If you wonder why he got kicked out, its because almost every girl from the whole state complained about him being a nuisance. :) Good times! I KNOW only one person who might read this will know exactly what I am talking about. ;)

But this Summer has been very memorable in so many ways.

Soon I will be going on vacation to St. Pete and Madeira Beach. Two whole weeks of fun in the sun, and sunburn. I will have to remind myself to bring the BIG bottle of Na-PCA! I am excited for that, like I haven't been on vacation because I had family members ill and in the hospital in such a long time. It will be nice to be away with no parents, and just kind of relax and not worry or stress about anything. Plus it helps that I am going with the BIGGEST clowns I know, my favorite uncle, UNCLE PETE (he is my favorite because he is my only uncle. Well I think he would still be my favorite if I had hundreds of uncles.) my Aunt, Ms. Martha who is really like my second mom/friend/a really cool and nice person to be with, and last but not least my cousin Chik-pik. My uncle has already said to get ready for the Shake Shop, awesome! I went with them a little while back for the weekend. I am so thrilled! Slightly bummed that we can't go to North Carolina as well, but its still going to be FUN! Although I will miss my baby Marabelle`, D, my Internet and everything in between. So next week today I will be gone! YAY!

Oh MY I heard that Coldplay is coming in town in November close to my birthday if I am correct. I so want to go, but know that I won't go. So instead I will just buy their CD close my eyes and imagine them in concert. How pathetic is that? I absolutely LOVE the new CD Viva La Vida. I can't name one song off that whole CD I don't like. Lovers In Japan/Reign of Fire is one that I am listening to now, oh to see it in concert would be like the coolest thing EVER!

Also.....FLCT has My Fair Lady auditions coming soon. It would be so nice to audition for the heck of it, not take it as serious as I have before. That would be funny, audition just because its something you enjoy and not really care if you make it or not. That would be the time where I actually would make the cut and not be someone in the background or a cover for someone. Ah, but it includes singing, that is where I know I would run into some problems. I don't like to sing, specially in front of people. Oh well, I guess I will just go and see it when it comes out in production. :) Now I have My Fair Lady songs stuck in my head! So whoever lives in South Florida look up FLCT.org and go try out. It seriously is something you have to do at least once in your life time, the experience alone is amazing! Well, maybe if they happen to do Thoroughly Modern Millie any time soon then I will have to try out, because that is like a musical you don't hear much about but is so funny, and portrays the 40's if I am not mistaken. I could go on about how much fun FLCT was.

Unfortunately it is getting late and I should be getting to bed now! So please if you see my grammar becoming poor, understand it is late and I am tired. :) Well Good night everyone. Thanks for reading again, even though it is absolutely nothing of importance, I hope I filled up some time! I will be writing soon!

Song for today's blog.........."Through Open Eyes" by Snow Patrol

Ha, I tricked you if you thought it was going to be Coldplay! Not this time!

Ah, the sweet delights of summertime... the season of BBQs, family vacations, and good clean fun at the local swimming pool.

This year, for the first time, my little family purchased a summer membership to the local "sports club" (thanks Dad :) ). It's been nice to be able to load the kids in the car on a whim and head over for a swim.

The other day while soaking in some much needed rays while my kiddies spashed around, I heard the following conversation from a group of 10 year olds.

Lil' Bastard #1 - "Look at that girl, she's got some big titties."
Lil' Bastard #2 - "Yeah, I love big boob."
Lil' Bastard #1 - "Look at how they bounce when she walks."

It was at this point when I turned around, and said what any loving and responsible mother and woman would do. "Classy. Go somewhere else you little freaks."

Sunscreen - $8
Summer Family Membership - $169
Hearing 10 year olds sexually harass girls/women - Priceless

The past couple of days have been absolutely surreal.

That's all I can really say I guess. Saturday was the most fun ever, Sunday was exhausting (but illuminating), Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were brilliant (and tiring) and today I realised differences in styles of writing I never comprehended before. As well as had my last ever music lesson.

I can't say how much I've learnt from this one person alone, I never thought someone could teach me so much indirectly. And friends? I never thought I could learn so much from someone just by seeing who they are. Stick around, maybe I have more to show you than you give me credit for. Maybe I don't.

Maybe trust isn't a conscious decision, it's an instinct.

So many things happened today, whether I expected it or not. I didn't dare to say it in case it came true, but for the past couple of days I've kept feeling that everything would culminate on Thursday - and it did. In more ways than I could have imagined.

Now would be a good time for the time difference to disappear. Hahaha.

Either way, I'm gonna tuck these couple of days in my heart to remember.

See you around guys, 10 days till home time! (:

In Japan dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness, and they often appear in art and literature, especially haiku.

With that we started a new chapter in The Old School's guild with a merger of Dark Eternal's core members lastnight and hopefully a smooth transition for all but really what could be difficult? We all want to enjoy our game time in WoW, experience new areas and explore, level up our respective characters, attempt to upgrade as best we can our gear and have FUN.

I've updated our Guild Rules page as well as the Guild Ranks. Our forums isn't used too much so I will leave that as is for now. Here are the highlights of our meeting last night in South Shore.

Ranks of DE's will be the same as before and we ranked everyone up last night.

Guild Bank will be open to all except the "Raid" tab of which will be used by our top ranked officers/raiders.

I asked everyone to download "Group Calendar" as this will be the primary way of scheduling raids and events. Please download it this week.

We will have open recruiting to bring our numbers up but please use your judgement on the type of players we are needing. Ask yourself "Do I want to spend the next 4-6 hours in Kara with this person?" Once we have "X" amount of members we will have "Officer Only" recruiting.

With open recruiting we will require one or more of our guild mates to run several instances or quests to see if there is a fit with our guild and vice versa.

Kara Runs will initially be ONE group until we have enough for TWO full groups. Schedules for that are TBD but tentatively we are set with Tues Nights and Fri Nights, maybe Saturdays. We'll get a consensus soon.

That was the basics of last night, I appreciate everyone coming to the meeting and participating in the raid and welcome all the new members.

An event for this summer’s eve:
A documentary short on the influential Brazilian band Os Mutan

An event for this summer's eve:

A documentary short on the influential Brazilian band Os Mutantes is playing at the Silent Movie Theater at 8pm tonight in the city of angels. Ricodinho has provided a brief history and quick crit of the band in his native tongue as well as a translation for us gringos. Snaps for Ricodinho!

When everyone in Brazil was in love with the Bossa Nova, and wanted to see and listen to a trio of voices and acoustic guitars, the Os Mutantes showed up with their weird cotumes, eletric guitars and strange sounds. While dictatorship repressed, censored and arrested cultural liberties, Os Mutantes would play rock’n roll and take LSD. Rita Lee’s charisma, Sergio Dias’ skills playing the guitar, and Arnaldo Batista’s inspiring lyrics slowly conquered the youth, adults, Brazil and the world. Among their most famous fans are Beck, who named one of his albums “Mutations” after the Brazilian band, and Kurt Cobain, who asked the Mutantes to reunite and open Nirvana’s shows during a South America tour in the mid 80’s. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.

Jeff McCarthy’s film is serious, factual and very evolved in the story telling. The Mutantes lived in a separate world, animated, childish and psychedelic. While the generals tortured, the Mutantes played and charmed.

Okay....get up off of the floor..... it's not THAT funny! This was 198something. Actually, it was 1988. I had graduated the year before- 1987. This was my boyfriend's (and now ex-husband...not that that has any relevance at all to this post.) Junior Prom. That's right! Two years younger than me! Hey! Go easy....he's the father of my oldest two! Anyway, I didn't get asked to my Junior Prom. Or my Senior Prom. Heavy sigh.

I just hope my friend doesn't stumble upon this and um, tie me up and perm my hair for posting this pic. Oh, I shiver at the thought! Permed hair. Oh THATmama, I know YOU understand!

The blue shimmery tinfoil-looking material would be lame. Royal blue lame. That's lu-ma, with a long a, not lame, people. Assymetrical. With lots of layers. And the 'do? Wellllll....permed 'fro with lots of teasing! The above picture sorta cut it off...so....just for you...I'll add another...

....it's dark...but you get the "picture"...the hair anyway?

Good times! Good times!

And that's "Sincerely "fro Me to You!" ;)

So, I have so much to write about for my San Diego trip. I'm still on it, but this is the first time I've actually been able to sit down on the Internet and type a few lines. Believe it or not, my room does NOT come with complimentary Internet. Filthy buggers.

You should look on Twitter to see my journey on my first couple of days. I have random images on there, too.

More to come soon!

Rebuttal Steve: you're so right. I'm trying to remember I'm not a cat. I tell myself "you're no cat, you're no cat."
