One of the features that has won my heart and my loyalty is its impeccable spam filter.

I never get spam emails. Ever! It's wonderful!

However, yesterday when I logged on to check my inbox, to my great surprise, there was an new email entitled "I need you to get back to me now asap," from a person named Yom Kulio.

Now, I am experienced enough in the world of email to know that this was not actually of any importance and was definitely SPAM.

The subject's bad grammar and the name that I've never even heard before are obvious red flags.

My initial reaction was, "Gmail, how could you?!"

"After years of an unblemished record in protecting my inbox from online sweepstakes and male enhancement ads, why now??"

I was hurt. Let down. Betrayed.

That was until I decided to read it. (You know, for giggles...)

My Ex-friend, titon Gareth used me a lot and treated me so badly. He
absconded with my dad's money which was kept with me after a
completion of a contract in EAST IDAHO When my friend got absconded
with the undisclosed sum of US dollars, After all these happened to me
and caused by my Ex-friend, I joined a dating site(www.couple.com)
where I met an African friend online here who promised heaven and
earth that he wants to marry me and make me happy in life"I never knew
I was going from Fry-pan to Fire"

The African friend told me of an investment opportunity in Africa and
he convinced me to come along with loads of money when coming down. On
getting here, all his intention was to take away the money from me,
play me and leave me on my own.

I came from the United States with all the money I've gotten from my
Dad's business and contracts renumeration. Because the african Friend
told me of an idea to invest in West African sculptures there. When I
got here, he made all possible means to get the money from me and
runaway with my money.When I noticed this, I took the money and my
travelling boxes and deposited it with a Security/Insurance Company
here in Africa in order to safe myself and my assets.Thereafter I left
the Friend apartment.

I don't want to fall into another terrible situation again after all
these that I have faced and I am not ready to be used this time. I
need to be very very careful of whom i will go out with or date this
time. I will need some words from you, which will prove to me about
your interest in me and what exactly you want out of our relationship.

I am very eager to have a date now, since i would be coming back to
the State as soon as possible you want me to, provided you will treat
me in an orderly manner. Well, let me hang on here till I hear from

Seguramente muchos de ustedes tienen una cuenta en GMail que usan como predeterminada. También es probable que se desesperen a la hora de dar click en algun enlace mailto y se ejecute Microsoft Outlook

Si eres como yo y te desagrada esta situación, sigue estos pasos para darle una solución.

• Abre tu cuenta de correo de GMail y pega el siguiente texto en la barra de direcciones: javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler ("mailto","https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","GMail")
• Si eres usuario de Google Apps en vez de usar el código anterior pega este: javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler ("mailto","https://mail.google.com/a/example.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","GMail")
• Firefox te preguntará si quieres asignar el servicio de GMail a los enlaces mailto.
• Finalmente, cuando quieras enviar un correo te preguntará qué aplicación quieres utilizar. Solo tienes que dar click en GMail, marcar la casilla que dice que no vuelva a preguntarlo nunca y listo.

Tambien les recomiendo el siguiente complemento para Firefox: Gmail Notifier. Sirve para checar tu cuenta automáticamente cada cierto intervalo de tiempo. Es compatible con Firefox 3.0

Ahora con Firefox 3 puedes configurar y elegir que correo usarás en este caso agregar Gmail.

Los pasos son sencillos despues de que Lifehacker lo publicaran.

1- Ve a Gmail y abre tu cuenta.

2- Una vez dentro de tu cuenta c/p la sgte. línea en la barra de direcciones del navegador y le das Enter.

3- Aceptas para añadir la aplicación.

4- Despues cuando clickees una dirección de correo como esta se abrirá una ventana con opciones de que correo quieres usar.

Hasta ahora los grandes proveedores de correo gratutito como Gmail, Hotmail y Yahoo Mail se protegían de enviar spam forzando a los nuevos usuarios a usar sus sistemas CAPTCHA, sistema que genera numeros y letras (que hasta ahora sólo podían ser decifrados por los sentidos humanos), evitando asi que los spammers usen 'robots' para crear nuevos usuarios que se dediquen al envio de spam.

Desde hace meses circula la noticia, hackers rusos han logrado romper el CAPTCHA de Google Mail y efectivamente, estos hackers han diseñado un sistema autoaprendizaje que con ayuda de un servidor  es alimentado por humanos en la lectura de los CAPTCHAs y va analizando el comportamiento de los sistemas CAPTCHA de los proveedores de correo. Los invetigadores creen que en los últimos días estos sistemas han incrementado su efectividad, tal es así, que estos hackers rusos venden paquetes de miles de correos para ser usados para el envio de spam por módicas sumas de dinero.

Se ThunderBird è il vostro client di posta preferito ecco subito la soluzione a portata di mano: si tratta dell'estensione WebMail.

Tale estensione consente di gestire la vostra webmail ovvero scaricare ed inviare la posta dalle webmail più diffuse, emulando un server POP in maniera completamente trasparente a ThunderBird.

Per prima cosa dovrete scaricare ed installare l'estensione WebMail, riavviare ThunderBird e successivamente installare l'estensione specifica per la webmail che intendete controllare mediante ThunderBird (quindi dovrete scaricare ed installare almeno 2 estensioni).

Fatto ciò create il nuovo account alla solita maniera:

Strumenti - Impostazioni Account - Aggiungi Account stando attenti però a scegliere la voce WebMail:

Configurate l'account inserendo esclusivamente nome ed indirizzo di posta, a tutto il resto ci penserà l'estensione WebMail...

Cliccate ora sul pulsante "Scarica posta" ed inserite la password della vostra casella di posta elettronica, et voilà tutti i vostri messaggi verranno scaricati in Thunderbird e per impostazione predefinita verranno lasciati sul server fino a quando non li cancellerete dal client stesso.

Se avete problemi con l'invio delle email vi suggerisco di modificare la configurazione dell'account appena creato in modo tale che TB utilizzi il vostro server smtp predefinito anzichè quello dell'estensione WebMail (che si interfaccia con la webmail dell'account configurato).

Uno dei vantaggi di questa soluzione al posto di altre analoghe è che il codice sorgente di questa estensione è libero e a disposizione di tutti.

Inoltre essendo basato tutto sulle estensioni non dovrete aggiornare nessun file manualmente, ci penserà thunderbird a controllare periodicamente se vi sono aggiornamenti.

Se vi state chiedendo a cosa possa servire controllare Gmail o Yahoo tramite questa estensione, dato che questi hanno dei server pop3/smtp liberamente accessibili, pensate al fatto che in alcuni casi (ad esempio in ambienti di lavoro) molte porte (eccetto la porta 80 che serve per navigare) potrebbero essere bloccate da un firewall quindi i server pop/smtp di gmail o yahoo potrebbero essere inaccessibili...

Spero vivamente che questo progetto abbia vita lunga! :)

The phone is reportedly going to have a camera, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and an MP3 player, the price is hazy but its rumoured to be around £200.

The design of the phone itself is similar to the popular LG Chocolate, it features a 2 inch widescreen display, making it better to view the Google features.

I don't currently know the release date of the Google Phone but hopefully we'll be hearing more of it in the near future.

Con Firefox è possibile selezionare un’applicazione di default per la lettura delle email. Fino a poco tempo fa era possibile settare solo Outlook e Thunderbird.

Ecco la procedura da seguire:

• Digitate about:config nella barra URL e cliccare il tasto “I’ll be careful”;
• Digitate “gecko.handlerservice” nel campo “filtro” e trovate l’elenco che termina conallowRegisterFromDifferentHost. Ciccate per cambiare il valore da falso a vero;
• Copiate questa linea di codice nella barra dell’indirizzo:javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(”mailto”,”https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s”,”GMail”)
• Dopodichè una finestra si aprirà chiedendo se si vuole aggiungere “Gmail”; selezionate si. A questo punto il procedimento dovrebbe essere completato.

La prossima volta che aprirete un link email, vi sarà possibile scegliere Gmail. A questo punto potrete selezionare Gmail come servizio di default per le email.
