La certezza che quella era la tesi giusta arriva da un modello matematico messo a punto da un gruppo di ricercatori italiani composto dai professori Andrea Camperio Ciani, Dipartimento di Psicologia generale dell'Università di Padova, Giovanni Zanzotto, Dipartimento di Metodi e Modelli matematici dell'Università di Padova, e Paolo Cermelli, Dipartimento di Matematica Università di Torino.

Il modello delle "selezione sessualmente antagonista" è stato selezionato tra i tanti messi sul tavolo ad inizio della ricerca e prevede che almeno un fattore genetico deve essere contenuto nel cromosoma sessuale X, quello trasmesso ai maschi solo dalle madri. Ma i geni trasmessi devono essere due, uno appunto nel cromosoma X, e un secondo contenuto in un altro cromosoma non sessuale.

In sostanza, sembra che la natura "metta in naturale conto" alcuni casi di omosessualità maschile pur di garantirsi un alto numero di probabilità di avere femmine feconde che mantengono e diffondono la specie.

Questo tipo di evoluzione, che è uno dei fattori che contribuiscono al mantenimento di una alta variabilità genetica, era stato dimostrato negli insetti, negli uccelli e in alcuni mammiferi ma, fino ad oggi, mai nell'uomo.

«In sostanza - spiega il professor Camperio Ciani - il nostro modello matematico dimostra tutti e quattro gli assunti da cui eravamo partiti. Ovvero: l'omosessualità maschile è sempre presente in tutte le popolazioni della terra; nessuna popolazione è totalmente composta da gay; l'eredità è asimmetrica, legata al ramo materno; i gay hanno da parte materna femmine (nonne, zie, cugine etc) che fanno più figli rispetto alla media».
«Questa scoperta - continua Camperio Ciani - in qualche modo rovescia gli stereotipi comuni per i quali gli omosessuali sono discriminati perché contro-natura. I went through the interesting exercise of going through all 50, and I took the liberty of reducing Time's list of 50 down to Paulano's List of 18. My two most common reasons for tossing a site were: 1) Someone else on the web does the same thing and they do it better and 2) The site simply did not interest me.

My favorite site is wikisky.org, a site that features images of space. Graphical Search Engine Searchme.com is a close second. The sites that held the least interest for me are Mobaganda and TinyURL.

My pick for Site Most Likely to be Misused is Ratemyprofessors.com. Paulano is not comfortable with the fact that the web provides anonymity for anyone who wishes to pop off with a libelous, slanderous or gratuitously unkind comment. I realize that Ratemyprofessors is just one of thousands of possible avenues for this type of abuse, but I feel it represents an class of sites that one should avoid. I've witnessed how easily this can get out of control, and quickly ruin a person's reputation.

Nonostante Copycat fosse geneticamente identica, non aveva gli stessi colori del mantello della madre (o meglio dire della sorella gemella?). Questo dettaglio, che dimostra il limite dell’uomo nel controllare fino in fondo la tecnica, non aveva grande rilievo per l’azienda “Genetic Saving & Clone” coinvolta nell’operazione, che da quel momento aveva iniziato a prendere ordinazioni da tutto il mondo. Le persone dovevano essenzialmente essere disposte a spendere circa 250 mila dollari per la clonazione, ed avere un amore tanto cieco per il proprio animale da volerlo quasi “resuscitare”.
Il vero problema sta proprio nel significato che si dà al termine clonazione. Questo nuovo tipo di mercato funziona perché illude le persone di poter riavere il proprio animale cui erano tanto affezionati, una speculazione sui sentimenti, insomma. La sua copia esatta, sì, certo, ma il comportamento, il temperamento? Come si fa a garantire che il clone di Fido avrà la sua stessa personalità? Missione impossibile, perché essa è data non solo dalle informazioni scritte nei geni, ma anche da un insieme di fattori esterni, quali l’imprinting, l’ambiente di crescita, l’allevamento della madre prima, e quello del proprietario poi. Dunque, due cloni non saranno mai perfettamente identici. In fondo, che senso avrebbe amare un animale come se lo si conoscesse già, come se appartenesse ad un’altra vita, ormai finita. Ogni individuo è unico e questa unicità dovrebbe riflettersi nell’apprezzarne pregi e difetti.
Eppure ricchi milionari hanno scelto di clonare il proprio gatto piuttosto che comprarsi una barca o una nuova macchina di lusso. In altre parole, per loro un capriccio come un altro. La gente comune, invece, avrebbe preferito utilizzare quei soldi magari per sfamare moltissimi gatti o cani randagi, creare nuove strutture per ospitarli o migliorare quelle già esistenti.

Ad oggi la clonazione animale per fini riproduttivi non è ancora un “bene comune”, ma un giorno forse potremo andare a prendere il nostro “nuovo” cucciolo in un laboratorio e non più al canile!

The first place to look, almost certainly, when you're interested in startup culture and the economics and psychology of the whole thing, is the essays of Paul Graham. Mainly the thing to take away from all of his essays are that startups are exciting and possible, plus he offers plenty of reasonable advice.

So, now that hopefully you're excited about startups, we can do a quick survey of the kinds of things web startups are doing (all of which have been grouped together and shorthanded "Web 2.0") and maybe look at some examples that are doing them well.

Harness the "wisdom of the crowds"
The nature of information is such that it is distributed all across the galaxy of minds. Sites that make it easy to aggregate this information can be successful without having to rely on a large staff or large proprietary databases. All you have to do is set up a framework where your users are rewarded for giving good information and let them do the work (especially when it's fun!)

Some examples of sites like this: reddit.com, which allows users to submit interesting and important links and then vote on them, so that the most interesting links float to the top. Threadless, where users submit t-shirt designs and vote on them; the designers get special rewards and the voters are presumably already all potential buyers. On both of these sites, pretty much any user can find something they like on the front page, which draws them in.

Keep tabs on your friends
People are social animals. Keeping up with your friends is really just another matter of distributed information. Your friends are doing stuff and if you find out what they are doing, maybe you could do that stuff with them! This can be an important part of business models because friends will recruit other friends naturally. These services, when successful, can grow very quickly.

Some examples of sites like this are Facebook, where everyone gets their own page to write what they're doing and everyone gets to see what their friends write (plus you can do other things like play games with your friends) and Twitter, which is sort of like one of the many blogging services out there, except your updates are limited to 140 characters. Most people just end up saying where they're going and what they're doing. This can really get addicting.

Connect people who can't find each other
Many of the problems of the world caused by imperfect information have to do with the fact that people want to find other people for whatever reason. Whether they need a job, a mate, a doctor, or just a new friend, the internet can provide the matches people need.

I'll skip dating sites like OKCupid and PlentyofFish when describing sites that do this well. Meetup.com organizes people and helps those who are interested in niches and uncommon things to find each other so they can share in the activity. LinkedIn creates a network of professionals in various areas that can help each other find work or keep track of the skills they and those around them have.

Offer to store and organize personal data
Storing data online can be useful; it makes it trivially easy to share it with others and also gives you access to it anywhere you are that you have a computer. With cell phones, these days, a lot of people have computers with them all the time. A good tactic, then, is to offer people a place to store data that is important to them or that they need.

One example of this is RememberTheMilk, which stores to-do lists, shopping lists, and all those sorts of things as well as can send reminders to do things when you need them. Another is Geni, which keeps track of your family tree, going as far back as you'd like, and can help you go back farther, but will also e-mail you to remind you of family birthdays and other such things.

Offer to store and organize A LOT of data
The business model of some of the biggest and most powerful startups involve storing lots and lots of user data. It takes a lot of servers and disk space to accomodate these type of startups, so just developing cool software and marketing is not enough. Everyone knows about these types of services: Youtube, Flickr, Wikipedia, and such.

Conclusion

Most successful Web startups do one of these things, and the most successful do a little bit of everything on this list. It has gotten much more affordable to do a startup in the past few years: all you need is hosting, a few competent designers and programmers, and a good idea. I hope I explained everything you need to know to think about doing your own startup, even if you're a complete novice!

Fatto sta che il 9 luglio si conlusero i Mondiali e noi intorno al 20 dello stesso mese eravamo già nella capitale francese!!!

Così muniti di magliette, sciarpe, bandiere italiane e quant'altro potesse irritare i francesi, ci recavamo nei luoghi di culto transalpini...fortunamente però non eravamo gli unici ad avere avuto tale idea (altrimenti avremmo rischiato il linciaggio) per cui a Parigi incontrammo e conoscemmo molti italiani con i quali poter festeggiare e intonare l'ormai famosissimo ritornello :" Pooo Po Po Po Po Pooo Po"

In uno di questi piacevoli incontri ci imbattemmo in un gruppo di 5 simpaticissimi italiani nostri coetanei nei pressi della Torre Eiffel (per l'esattezza al di sotto di essa)...anche loro come noi erano muniti di magliette e cappellini dell'Italia e così non fu difficile individuarli e con loro intonare i classici tormentoni italiani!!!

Così dopo 1 minuto circa di euforici cori italiani passiamo alle presentazioni...essendo italiani all'estero la prima domanda che sorgerebbe spontanea a chiunque è :"Ragààà...ma di dove siete?"

E fu qui che rimasi sbigottito...

Il capo gruppo prese la parola e rispose:"Italy!"...alchè noi dopo alcuni secondi di fragorose risate,ancora con il sorriso sulle labbra,incalzammo...

"Che siete italiani non avevamo dubbi: abbiamo sia noi che voi le maglie dell'Italia
...abbiamo cantato insieme e in italiano per un minuto...ci siamo abbracciati ecc... Noi intendiamo DI CHE CITTA' SIETE???" A tal punto eravamo sicuri di esserci espressi bene e quindi di ricevere una risposta che ci avrebbe soddisfatti e invece...qui viene il bello!!!Tenetevi forte...

Il solito leader del gruppo (che probabilmente era rappresentativo delle peculiarità dei suoi amici) con lo sguardo finalmente brillante e fisso verso di noi partì intonando :"Poooo Po Po Po Po Poooo Po"

I ricercatori canadesi si sono rivolti alle banche del cervello (Quebec Suicide Brain Bank), un sistema in rete di istoteche neurologiche che raccoglie e distribuisce per gli studiosi campioni da analizzare. Comparando il profilo molecolare di un set di geni che codificano per l’rRNA - componente di base per la sintesi proteica - nel cervello di suicidi ed in quello di soggetti deceduti per cause naturali, sono state riscontrate delle differenze nell’assetto dei “markers epigenetici” (rimodellamenti nella struttura della cromatina che avvengono senza cambiamenti nella sequenza del DNA e rappresentano una sorta di codice in grado di modulare l’espressione di geni). Le alterazioni nello spettro delle modifiche della cromatina sono alla base di diverse patologie umane, in quanto i markers epigenetici sono sensibili alle influenze dell’ambiente, specialmente nelle fasi precoci della vita. Tutti i soggetti che si erano suicidati avevano subito abusi nella prima infanzia.

“E’ possibile che i cambiamenti nei markers epigenetici siano stati causati dall’esposizione ad abusi sessuali, anche se nell’uomo è difficile stabilire un rapporto di causa-effetto fra le esperienze infantili e modifiche nei markers epigenetici allo stesso modo in cui lo abbiamo dimostrato negli animali” - afferma Moshe Szyf, responsabile delle ricerche al Dipartimento di Farmacologia e Terapia della McGill University.

Le ricerche sul suicidio sono estremamente complesse in quanto non esistono validi modelli sperimentali animali e quindi l’analisi è drammaticamente post mortem. Esiste poi a livello sociale uno “stigma”, quasi una cortina fumogena sul suicidio, che mira a coprirne le cause profonde o scatenanti, etichettandolo come evento non prevedibile e diagnosticabile in tempo, chiamando in causa determinanti genetici difficilmente dimostrabili. Una grande percentuale di suicidi, soprattutto infantili e giovanili sfugge all’analisi perché considerati banali “incidenti” conseguenti a condotte pericolose come bere fino allo stordimento, mescolando farmaci ed alcol, guidare contro mano, senza patente o sotto l’effetto di sostanze. “Anche tra gli stessi operatori che trattano le situazioni di abuso sui minori possono riscontrarsi i meccanismi di negazione e la mancanza di capacità empatiche” - sostiene il neuropsichitra infantile Francesco Vitrano, giudice onorario presso il Tribunale dei minori di Palermo. E’ fondamentale dunque avere a disposizione dei validi criteri diagnostici.

“La grande domanda che abbiamo di fronte è se gli scienziati possano rilevare modifiche dell’assetto epigenetico a livello del DNA del sangue - conclude Szyf - ciò potrebbe portare alla messa a punto di test diagnostici, e sia possibile progettare interventi che eliminino le differenze rilevate nei markers epigenetici”. Gli stessi ricercatori della McGill University, in studi precedenti su ratti con disturbi dell’attaccamento, hanno osservato che il marchio epigenetico può essere reversibile, agendo con farmaci in grado di modificare gli schemi di metilazione del DNA.

L’obiettivo finale delle ricerche è di integrare i dati dell’analisi molecolare con l’indagine psicologica per prevenire in tempo l’insorgere di comportamenti autolesivi in soggetti che hanno subito abusi. Perché se è vero che la vita di un bambino è sacra, quella di un bambino abusato lo è forse ancora di più…

O Geni faz parte deste novo gênero, que não sei onde surgiu, mas aqui em São Paulo o chamamos de bar-balada. Existem mesas, garçons, mas o balcão é lotado de gente, sendo impossível beber em paz. Outra, cheguei no lugar umas 22h00 e nem me arrisquei procurar uma mesa, já tinha gente demais em pé.

Entretanto, desconsiderando que o lado Bar do Geni é meia boca (como estrutura), o lado Balada é animal! Pela programação, toda sexta-feira se apresentará no palco do Geni uma banda de Sambarock furiosa, chamada Nereu Mocotó e Swing. Niguém conhecia as músicas dos caras, mas o som era muito contagiante. A banda é muito bem formada, com guitarra, bateria, baixo, metal, percussão, pandeiro e vocalista (não perguntei, mas percebe-se que é carioca).

Vamos às bebidas. Cachaça: a casa oferece DUAS (so called bar, right?) e uma delas, é claro, Seleta. Sem opção, me resta comentar o serviço. Na primeira dose, fui ao balcão do ambiente bar do Geni (aos fundos). Para ajudar na degustação, solicitei ao garçom uma azeitona (1 unidade) e o cara facilmente conseguiu pra mim. Foi ótimo o atendimento dele. Já no balcão ao lado do palco, já em outro ambiente, fiz o mesmo pedido. Um garçom (parecido com o pai do American Choppers) disse que não tinha azeitona, que NÃO TINHA (Caps Lock neles). O chopp, que maravilha: Braumeister, R$ 4,20 o copo. Delícia.

Conclusões finais. Vá para o Bar Geni quando você quer curtir uma balada (principalmente de sexta-feira), não quando quer beber, apreciar um drink e trocar uma idéia com amigos, não vale a pena.

I slutet av varje test fick man reda på vilka "kändisar" som tillhör samma grupp och min klick bestod av typer som Einstein, Marie Curie och Picasso...så jag antar att alla genier är listskrivare ;-).  Synd att jag inte hade något annat gemensamt med mina "personlighetstypsjämlikar" - skulle gärna haft Maries hjärna, Picassos sinne för konst och Einsteins hår. Gjorde en afropermanent för inte så längesedan, men jag lyckades inte riktigt få det att stå som hans.

Min handledare på ambassaden skrev som en kråka och jag brukade skämta med honom om det. Han var kvick och sa att en studie visat att sammankopplingen mellan dålig handskrift och hög lön var tydlig. Med den informationen i ryggen kan det antas att när jag väl får ett jobb - då kommer jag tjäna multum.

Slutsats - jag är ett "going-to-be-rich"-geni hohoho.

Moment 22 - 285 dagar arbetslös - 98 sökta jobb

I gemelli John e Michael di cui abbiamo parlato in questa serie possono essere visti come minorati mentali o geni per il "loro bene" e dal momento che la nostra società ha bisogno di minorati o mentali e non può permettersi i geni, i gemelli furono separati porre fine alla loro morbosa intimità e metterli in grado di "affrontare il mondo [...] in modo consapevole e socialmente accettabile".

Oliver Saks osserva: Credo che i gemelli in apparenza così isolati vivano in un mondo pieno di amici, che abbiano milioni, anzi miliardi di amici ai quali dicono: ehi, ehilà!, e quelli, ne sono certo gli rispondono: ehilà! Ma [...] questi numeri non sono mai arbitrari e per trovarli i gemelli (e qui sta il mistero) non usano nessuno dei soliti metodi, anzi per quanto ne capisco non ne usano nessuno. Sembrano servirsi di una cognizione diretta, come gli angeli.Essi vedono un universo e un cielo di numeri. E questa facoltà, per quanto singolare, per quanto bizzarra - ma che diritto abbiamo noi di chiamarla "patologica"? - conferisce una peculiare e serena autosufficienza alla loro vita: "interferire con essa o infrangerla potrebbe avere effetti tragici".

Al di là della storia in sé, i gemelli suggeriscono che esiste una aritmetica più alta che non è quella irritante, convenzionale, fatta di tabelline, pallottolieri, divisioni e moltiplicazioni. I gemelli autistici senza sapere fare 2+2 avevano come amici i numeri primi.

Una matematica innata nel cervello dinamica e viva, un universo inesplorato.

I gemelli John e Michael negli anni '60 erano da poco maggiorenni ed erano diventati famosi in televisione, per radio americane per le loro capacità straordinarie mnemoniche e matematiche.

Riuscivano a dire in che giorno della settimana cadeva una qualsiasi data anche migliaia di anni avanti, che metodo potevano avere due ragazzi autistici, psicotici o lievemente ritardati o soprattutto che non erano in grado di fare sottrazioni e addizioni?

"i gemelli ruotano gli occhi e poi li arrestano in un modo particolare, come se stessero strotolando un calendario mentale o scrutando un paesaggio interiore. I gemelli non "calcolano" loro "vedono".
Una scatola di fiammiferi [...]cade sporgendo il contenuto sul pavimento <<111!>> gridarono i gemelli all'unisono; e poi John mormorò:<<37>>, Michael lo ripetè, John lo disse una terza volta.
Contai i fiammiferi (mi ci volle un po'): erano 111. come fecero a contarli così in fretta? "non li abbiamo contati, abbiamo visto 111" perchè il 37? "37,37,37=111"risposero insieme.

"John fece un gesto con il pollice e due dita tese, come ad indicare che avevano diviso in tre il numero[...].
Parvero sorpresi della mia sorpresa come se io fossi in qualche modo cieco [..].
Non sarebbe come investire in ricerca e progresso  proteggere e dare dignità ai diversamente abili mentali, invece di comportarci come dei disturbati mentali correndo dietro a pazzi di carta colorati?

Jag älskar att lära mig nya saker och vill helst veta lite om allt, prova på allt och se allt innan jag dör, jag är en kunskaps- och faktaslukare och om jag kunde skulle jag vilja gå i skolan för alltid. Men jag har märkt att det är skillnad på kunskap och kunskap - särskilt när man söker jobb.

En go vän till mig vet allt om historia, han kan allt och berättar det som om han gjort det 100 gånger, utan tvekan, med flyt och inlevelse. Han har dock aldrig studerat historia i skolan, och han jobbar inte med det, han har bara ett stort intresse och har införskaffat sig all kunskap på egen hand, på sin fritid, och jag är säker på att han är mer kunnig än de flesta historeistudenter på universitetsnivå, han bara är det.

Är hans kunnande relevant i en jobbsökarsituation? Jag tvivlar på det. "Eh ja, jag har en kandidat i ekonomi, men jag är en riktig jävel på historia, men det har jag inte dokumenterat...tyvärr" Vad tror du arbetsgivaren säger till honom? Hmm...intressant, har du inte papper på det så räknas det inte. Hej då.

Och där slösas enorm kunskap bort på grund av en teknikalitet - synd.

Jag gick en kurs i Karriärplanering och där fick vi bland annat lära oss att kunskap och kompetens är inte samma sak. Kunskap är det vi alla kan skaffa oss genom skola o.s.v. men kompetens är vad vi kan göra med kunskapen och vilka personliga kvalitéer vi har, vilka förmågor vi innehar.

Det är balansen mellan de båda som arbetsgivaren är ute efter. Det är kompetensen vi som individer måste bevisa att vi har, för att på pappret, ja där står det bara om våra kunskaper och kan man då som jag lite om mycket kan det vara svårt för arbetsgivaren att se mina styrkor. Mina talanger syns inte.

Det måste jag jobba på, samtidigt som jag måste skapa mig ett personligt mål - vart är det jag vill gå? Kan man lite om mycket är det oerhört svårt att välja och det är ett ganska ångestladdat val att bara peka och gå.

Men jag är på väg.

Moment 22 - 259 dagar arbetslös - 84 sökta jobb

Mitt resultat blev 121 och det säger mig egentligen ingenting. Jag är urkass på logik, jag har absolut ingen möjlighet att se mönster av den typen som alltid finns med på IQ-test där man ska välja ut den figur som är den bäst passande efterföljande i en serie figurer. Det känns som om jag gissar hela tiden och det är ju aldrig så att man kan få ett facit på ett IQ-test så man svävar i okunskap och blir aldrig bättre. Man gör bara olika test och nöjer sig med det där man fick det bästa resultatet. Detta var ett bra resultat - det behåller jag (vilket bra test!!)!

Varför gjorde jag det då? Med förhoppningen att min hjärna inte har skrumpnat gjorde jag det och önskade mig ett bra resultat så jag har någonting att glädjas över, något hopp liksom.

Jo det kändes bra, jag må vara arbetslös, men jag är inte dum hehe

Synd att man inte kan få några jobb baserat på det, så i grund och botten är det ju bara värdelöst, det säger ingenting om mig mer än att jag inte är blåst, så vad är intelligens egentligen?
